It was our Anniversary that night and did they have a surprise for us!! Amazing hospitality and service. Full of surprises and great food too!! Mr. Yash Joshi really knew how to please a customer and pamper them with good food. Thank you so much for the memorable experience.. Five stars š¤©š¤©š¤©š¤©š¤©
Greta food but terrible service for a 5 star hotel standard. If they fix that then a all round winner!
Good Chinese Food. Great Service.
What I love about this place is apart from serving excellent food, they have exceptional service. A big shout out to Mr. Yash who was the manager at the restaurant for making our evening special!
Highly recommend this place for a date night or a special occasion.
Had an amazing dinner, probably one of the best Chinese food ever we had. Service was impeccable. Special thanks to chef sudeep and Nikhil,Raju for all recommendations. Food served here are prepared with so much love and thought that it touches with soul too with tastebuds. It was my birthday and couldnt ask more to it.Thank you Team Tao of Peng.
I absolutely love Asian food and Tao of Peng is one of the finest Asian restaurants in the city. They get their vegetables fresh from Thailand and Singapore - they offer edamame beans, lotus root and water chestnut based dishes, which are to die for.
My favourite is their dessert platter, which also features a Wasabi icecream. I definitely recommend trying the place!

Ambience:
What can I say! Intercontinental is absolutely stunning. Tao of Peng is a beautiful dining experience. The interiors are ever so Asian. Love how they had placed the chopsticks and spoons on the table.
Food:
1. Jasmine Tea (5/5)
This is complimentary and I was gulping just way too much. It was so soothing and refreshing. I canāt believe I feel in love with something Jasmine.
2. Drunken Chicken (5/5)
Iāve had drunken chicken at other restaurants. But the one served here is super rich. Lovely blend of tastes. The chicken was cooked to perfection. Note that this contains alcohol.
3. Wok fried Grouper (4/5)
The fish was cooked beautifully. The cooked fish was tossed in rich Asian sauce. Only downside was it was too saucy for me.
4. Wok Tossed Hakka Noodles (5/5)
Simple Hakka noodles tossed in a Wok. We went ahead with the seafood option and loved it.
5. XO fried rice (4/5)
Doesnāt look or taste like the normal fried rices we get. Itās a bit different but it was good to get a taste of this. They donāt have an egg option but we insisted that we wanted it only with egg.
Service and Staff:
Very courteous and careful. Thank you Intercontinental for this amazing experience.
VFM:
It is obviously expensive. š Since itās on Zomato Gold, itās a win-win.
Good food with good ambience! Great service! Filling and satisfying food for the soul. Chinese lovers this is where you belong! Best Chinese in ecr
InterContinental Chennai is one of the amazing properties that located in the outskirts of Chennai at Mahabalipuram. The property has been around for 3.5 years and has won many hearts. There are 3 restaurants in the hotel and the most popular among these is the āTao of Pengā. The restaurant serves best dishes from Chinese, Japanese and Continental Cuisines. And itās won the prestigious Time Food Awards Chennai for Best Chinese Restaurant, 3 year in a row.
Ambiance
Ā * The restaurant has a beautiful entrance that has few hanging light shades. Name of the restaurant is written on a beautiful plate and the symbol around it resembles Buddhist Monk.
Ā * There is a nice piece of art in the middle that looks very eye-catchy.Ā
Ā * Seating arrangement are exquisite, and every table is very well decked up with required cutlery & glasses. Every seat also has traditional chopsticks for those comfortable eating with it.
Ā * Every table can accommodate 4 people but if needed they can join multiple table. The community table can have 15-20 people dining in at a time thatās perfect for team lunch or large family gathering.
Food
I had very high expectation with regards to the food at the restaurant. Though I am not great fan of Chinese food, I enjoy the flavours in them.
Appetizers
Assorted Dumpling
Crystal Vegetable Dumpling, Mushroom Dumpling, Poached Pekin Vegetable Dumpling, Pan Fried Shanghai Dumpling
Among the variety of dumpling served, I specially enjoyed the Mushroom & Crystal Vegetable Dumpling. The dish was served on a plate that had nice honey-chilli sauces, small dollop of mayo and edamame seeds. The presentation was so amazing that it greatly enhanced eating experience.
Wok Tossed Lotus Tossed
This dish comes has a crisp pieces of Lotus stem coated with honey, red chilli & sesame. The dish was crunchy and had the right balance of sweet, sour and spice. I enjoyed every bite of the dish and wanted to have many portions of the same.
Crispy Cheung Fun
This dish was made with Red Rice Flour and had crunchy vegetables. The dish was served with a nicely made soy sauce. Flavors of the dishes were not punch but I loved the crunchiness.
Main Course
Stir Fried Exotic Green, Four Style Vegetables, Udon Noodles, Cantonese Style Fried Rice
Every dish had unique set of ingredients that brought out different flavors. The Stir Fried Exotic Green dish had green vegetables like Asparagus & Broccoli served with special herbed sauce. The Four Style Vegetables had combination of Tofu, Water chestnuts, Broccoli and Edamame. Both the dishes tasted well with the Cantonese Styled Fried rice containing edamame, diced carrots & beans.
The thick wheat flour Japanese Udan noodles was good as it was soft and light spices. I could eat it without having to add any sauces.
Desserts
Chef and his team create a dessert-platter that has multiple desserts in one single long edible stone plate.
The variety of dessert present included sesame sphere with an array of homemade ice-creams and sorbets . I could feel the taste of Wasabi, Chocolate, Black-current in different ice-creams. To add to this there were plenty of crushed Choco pieces, crumbles, chocolate sauce, blue-berry sauce and more.
Drinks
Spicy Thai Lemongrass Margarita, Bourbon Berry Smash
I loved the Bourbon Berry smash as the taste of Bourbon Whisky came out well in the cocktail. When mixed with berries, mint-leave, sour-mix & soda, the taste was enhanced. Spicy Thai Margarita was the one of the spiciest cocktails as it had Thai Chilli & ginger. The drink tastes good when sipped but it starts burning due to strong spicy flavor from Thai Chilli.
Overall Experience
It was great experience lunching at one of the well-known restaurants in Chennai. The place has got one of the best ambiances for a Chinese Restaurant and a talented group of Chefs. I enjoyed the varieties of Dumpling and Crispy Cheung Fun and Gravy dishes. But the dessert art also left a lasting impression. I want to visit this restaurant again to try out many more Chinese dishes.
My current rating for the restaurant would be 4.0/5. Rating in other departments.
Food - 4.0/5

Food for 2 at the restaurant will come up to anywhere between INR 4000-6000.
Amazing food and amazing hospitality by the restaurant staff especially Bharath. Had one of the best experience of fine dining restaurant in the city! :)
I just love this place for its calm ambiance and amazingly authentic Chinese food. Their prawn cheung fun and dimsums are must try loved it. Staffs were polite and friendly. Totally worth travelling so far from city to eat there.
Very classy. BEST CHINESE FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD. I was never fond of sticky rice before until i had it here. It was very very classy and the katta meeta mocktail wasnāt good though. Other than that it was a really good place. For the record i thought it was an expensive place but turned out the pricing is decent.
I was here at Tao of Peng in ICC for the Asian brunch. The menu included the best dishes from Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, China and Korean cuisine.
The ambiance was just perfect for brunch - well lit, super comfy chairs and the most hospitable crew made me feel at ease and enjoy my food.
We started with the best dimsum recipes from Asian - chicken goldust, prawn har gow, lobster XO pouch, truffle edamame, Cheung fun and garlic chives. I loved prawn har gow, lobster XO and mushroom melange the best!
Next came the sushi- Californian roll, ebi tempura, nigiri, tori katsu, rainbow maki and futo maki. Now I am not sure what was named what, but I loved the Salmon sushi, tuna sushi, Californian roll the best ā¤
Apart from the dimsums and sushi, I loved chicken negima and New Zealand lamb chops from the starters.
For main course we had Cantonese fried rice, Malaysian mutton redang, Thailand chicken curry and flat noodles. Loved each and every dish from the main course but what stood out and was absolutely delicious was the pork belly that is cooked for 12 solid hours - THIS IS THE BEST ONE CAN TATSE! I am not a regular pork eater but I try it everywhere i get a chance to but I never really like its texture. In Tao of Peng, it was perfectly cooked (12 hours, what do you expect!), flavors were rich and the texture will leave you wanting for more.
Desserts- mint and lemon sorbet- this was like frozen mojito - loved it. Wasabi flavoured ice cream - wasabi dips are my favourite but my ice cream tasting like wasabi was something so new and with each bite I started liking it more and more. The last one was THE BEST!! Black bean and vodka ice cream!! This is something I want everybody to try!
I left the place with a full tummy and a happy heart!
Terrific food, service and ambience! The complex is much bigger than taj fisherman's cove also has a cute little access to the beach. Food is very flavourful and fresh. A must try on ECR road!
Mind blowing dimsums, the most amazing cheungfun & some great service.
I have been there so many times, that I just cannot stop telling everyone to go there already! Anyone I've recommended this place to has come back happy :)
Beautiful location. Ambience is great. The light setup is so romantic and the whole property looks amazing. You never feel coming out of this place. Its ideal for some relaxing time with your loved one. Tao Of Peng is an awesome restaurant that is located at ICC Chennai. They provide mouth watering dishes and the ambience is so soothing and relaxing. The staff are very friendly. We went for valentines day and they provided us amazing food and hand crafted chocolates. The table decoration was beautiful with candle light and roses. We really loved the food at Tao of Peng.
Would rate this place for its ambience. We had ordered chicken noodles and kung pao chicken. The taste and quantity was satisfying. If you are looking to try something new, check out their dessert menu. Visited this place at night and had a chance to access the beach. Would definitely recommend to visit this place on a full moon day.
Such a beautiful and magnificent place cuddled in the heart of the intercontinental resort. The place is fine dining to the core with the great pan-asian cuisine that tickles your taste buds but can hurt the pocket a bit. I would definitely go back just for the food and ambience. Keep it up Tao of Peng.
I was here on a Sunday afternoon for a light meal and I was glad I chose this restaurant. The ambience and the decor were pretty good and the place had the right kind of feel considering the cuisine they were serving. The food and beverage menu were interesting and quite exhaustive too. I tried their Ho fan noodles, which was nicely done and flavorful. The service was impressive too - the whole team was prompt and attentive.
On thĆ© whole, it was a nice dining experience. I definitely wouldnāt mind being here again. But to be honest, I was quite surprised that the place was literally empty on a weekend afternoon. With not many fine-dining Chinese places on this stretch, I thought the place had all the potential to be a happening spot.
Fabulous lunch on Sunday.
We are there for a small get together with couple of friends. We all like to have oriental food since long so we decided to go tao of peng.
We reached around 2.30pm, a warm welcome received from the staff. The place was little busy with fair number of people, still staff attention was remarkable towards everyone. We were trying to ask something out of menu which they didn't find any complications to offer us, chef Anup came and met us that's actually pleasant experience. There was many individuals who was very attentive can't recollect the name, i remember deeraj.
Food was excellent and really mouth watering.
Chicken sui mai, kung pao chicken, thai basil hilli garlic noodles and Chinese veg friex rice this all prepared with perfection, taste and flavour was amazing. Honestly saying i find the food is very authentic here.
After meal when we doesn't have any room to eat anything they gotta massive dessert platter, had really wonderful experience.
Perfect ambiance and lovely people around ā„ļøā„ļøā„ļø.
Visited this place over weekend. Ambience is nice. We ordered vegetarian dishes. Food is very good specifically Hafoon noodles. Staff is very well behaved. Overall nice experience.
Great ambience, service and food. The Chicken Shao Moi was steamed and dressed to perfection with the chicken soft enough to melt.
The Hoofan Noodles for the main course and this is a signature dish. The chicken just melts in with the noodles. This dish is good for two but make sure you donāt go with heavy starters.
A must visit restaurant if you are at the InterContinental, Mahabalipuram.
Absolutely love the quite dim lit ambience and the chef has always agreed to accommodate our choices and serve us according to our preferred taste buds. Mushroom Dimsums are really yummy , with those sweet spicy tangy dip. Schezwan noodles ( can eat it without the sides too, itās nice and spicy) with stir fried veggies in black bean sauce was true to its flavors. . Dint quite enjoy the honey lotus stem, they were quite soggy instead of being crisp. Loved the presentation and array of combination of flavors of the mocha green tea dessert.. Always looking forward to getting back here!
I love this Chinese restro Top... Because of lots of varieties of Chinese food.. Specifically sea food.... I went there with my friend she loved that restro food.. She loved his food n service.... Again I thanks to chef anoop he is a nice human being his food was great and delicious... N service did by ashish, diksha n aatish they all are very good persons they nicely take care of us... Really I spend my good time with ihgchennai.... I love you ihgchennai... Thanks a lot
My husband and I were at Tao of Peng last night to celebrate our six month anniversary. Since we're always at Melting Pot for family dinners, we decided to opt for Tao of Peng for a change.
The lighting was perfect for romantic dinners and I'd definitely salute the staff for their courtesy. One of them was observant enough to notice my sneezing fits and offered me some hot water as well.
We ordered some chilli fried squid which came as quite a disappointment because it was a little too hard. The scallops sui Mai served with salmon roe was exceptional and I know that I'd be paying another visit just for it !
For the main course, we had the hoofan seafood noodles (as suggested by the chef) and wok tossed tenderloin in black pepper sauce. The noodles was a good combination of sweet and spicy and we weren't let down. On the other hand, while the tenderloin had really good taste, I feel it was marinated for too long and was too soft for my liking.
Although they had an interesting array of desserts like wasabi and pomelo ice cream , we were too full to sample any so I guess we've got another reason for our next visit !
Beautiful ambience ! Excellent food ! Superb hospitality ! So much to eat in veg ! Water chestnut appetiser is yummm, a must go place highly recommended
Whenever one wants to have a candle light romantic dinner with their partner without hesitation one should head to Tao of peng intercontinental Chennai. It's a very quiet n calm place outside the Hussle n bustle of the city. But one has to be very careful after the crocodile park to locate this place . Despite being a huge 5 star property there are chances to miss this place as the lighting is very bad. There are no sign boards and no proper lighting outside the resort this making it hard to find. Moreover the resort before this property has a very bright lighting so easy option is to look for the Jade resort and go to the icc š . We ordered for Asian green soup with flavours of lemon n corriandar which was very nice. They served the soup with crispy fried pok choy which added the crunch to the already wonderful soup . Unlike other Chinese restaurants they serve a very different tangy bell pepper and burnt chilli sauce which I have never tasted in elsewhere yet . For main course we ordered hoofah noodles these are fresh homemade noodles with lots of vegetables n black bean sauce . It's a complete meal in itself. You don't need any other accompaniment or sides with this but if you want to have then they have a good variety of gravies as well . We ordered for lotus stem in black bean sauce . The size n quality of lotus stem which u get in 5 star Chinese restaurants is not available in any other place. For the day we skipped desserts n ended our dinner with Chinese tea.
What a wonderful night at the Tao. A beautiful property and a pretty restaurant dressed in Valentine colours, the food was spectacular...easily the best Chinese Restaurant in town. We had the lobster money bags, which just melted in the mouth... the cold duck plate, with slivers of meat and crispy skin dressed in the right amount of hoisin sauce, was a delight. For the mains we had another melting moment in the pork belly in truffle sauce and XO fried rice, which again was delicious. Not to forget the innovative curry leave mojito and naatu rasam for cocktails. A fabulous evening with some great service, we are already looking forward to the next time. Thank you!

Thereās dim lighting, low lighting and Tao of Peng lighting. A restaurant that has it all except some light. It would have been great during lunch since it has decent natural light but isnāt open for lunch. But dinner is truly for the romantics and the office/ team dinner. Each table being well spaced out, you donāt have to whisper and your conversation isnāt disturbing the next table. One of the things that makes a fine dining restaurant a wonderful experience is a waiter who knows how to explain the menu and help you make choices. The staff at Tao scores fully on this point. The chef may even fine out to say a few words to you. The cutlery is a bit unique with a slightly asymmetric shape of the plates. The menu is truly great with choices for both vegetarian and meat eaters. The dumplings were a bit sticky that using the chopsticks was a bit of a problem, maybe something particular about that day. Do plan to visit if you want to spend a long time because itās very easy to do that and not realize time go by as you sit, chat and eat.
One of the city's fine dining restaurant with excellent interiors .
The taste and the textures of the dishes are hard to forget .
The service was impeccable .
Some of the highlights of i what ordered
Dimsum platter : the platter was made on special order and was presented by chef Anup Ming .
It was artfully presented ,a treat to the eyes as well as the palate .
It's mouthwatering selection of dimsums is one of the best you can find in town
Dessert platter : The dessert platter was simply irresistible . It included portions of green tea Panna cotta ,lime sorbet and chocolate dome
Packed with flavours and beautifully presented
Ambience of this place is quite romantic with great tasting pan asian cuisine. Courteous and friendly staff.Must visit in Mahabalipuram especially for dinner.
My most favorite restaurant in town. I'll keep this review short and straight. Order the crispy prawn dumpling , and the home made hoofan noodles. ( I guess that's the name :D) you will not go wrong for sure. Also the chef made some chilli garlic fried rice which we loved ! The service has been unparalleled and the ambience is another yes! Never been a huge fan of their main course but the kung Pao chicken is good if not anything special. Always my favā£ļø
Blissful experience at Tao of Peng, This was my 3rd Visit, This time I had one Non Veg Set meal and my friend chose veg set meal. Portioning was abundant and will be visiting soon.

We stayed at the Intercontinental, some days back and reserved a table at the Tao of Peng, for dinner one night.
It was the midweek and they were opened only for dinner service. The restaurant spells class and refinement, from the minute you enter, with the design elements and the moody low lighting and chinese instrumental music.
We only saw another solo dinner, so my brother's family and me, literally had the whole restaurant to ourselves and we sat the round table, where you can get a birds eye view of the entire space.
We have two very hungry and sleepy children in our midst and thus went straight ahead with pouring through the menu and ordering.
I didnāt realize they had a tasting menu then (only after reading fellow reviews on zomato..but anyways)
Since the family is mostly veg, we ordered the following.. bowls hot and sour, dumping soup, black truffle edamame dumpling, crunchy veg cheung fun, Four style vegetables and a Cantonese fried rice with edamame and taro.
The soups were good and hearty. The hot and sour was well balanced and the dumpling soup was pretty refined too, with loads of mushroom, which my niece promptly kept threw off to the sideplate! LOL
The truffle edamame dimsum was good, but I expected it to a little more flavourful, the Cheung fun was a lot more interesting, in terms of the flavour and especially with the runny soy based sauce. The four style vegetables were OK, but I think it was a rather boring order from our end, but we loved the Cantonese rice; it was really tasty and filled with texture.
By the time we were through, the kids were asleep and so we decided to skip dessert.
Service by Kuldeep, was professional yet friendly and I have to say, that their jasmine tea (which U drank copiously) was simply sublime..
This is a fine dining space and the pricing surely reflects the same. Recommended for a special day out.

.
had dinner here last Saturday, after enjoying the musical performance in the resort. Largely went with recommendation of the staff as I don't have great understanding of Chinese food.
The noodle was very different from the regular noodles we are used to. This one was thick, wide and tasted very good. We were told Chinese people don't eat too much ice cream, hence ice cream menu is limited.Ā
Green tea was served at regular intervals. Ambiance was good- crowd was less at about 7..30 when we entered. Chef Avinash and other staff were very courteous.
The place serves asian cuisine ,menu is quite similar to yautcha .
The ambience is dimly lit but nice . We called for the edamame dim sums which was good and a must try also the crispy fried lotus root was also nice and for the mains we ordered the chilli fried rice which was good , wok tossed Hakka noodles and assorted veg in Sichuan sauce which was also good .
All over the food was good and the place is a must try , if you like asian cuisine .
Overwhelmingly delicious food ...loads of jasmine tea !!A bit expensive but worth the price u pay !makes me wanna come back for more ..& easily one of the best Chinese restaurants I've ever ever eaten at in & around chennai šš»
To describe the food in one word - Mind Blowing(sorry that's two). The food is exquisite and plated to perfection. The staff are courteous and very helpful in guiding us through our selection from the wide variety of dishes. The wasabi prawns are a must try - perfectly crunchy on the outside and absolutely juicy flavour , the almond pudding also surprised us with its subtle flavour and the citrus granita served as a palate cleanser. We had the Hoofan noodles that was suggested by our server and we didn't regret it. Flat noodles that have a melt -in-your-mouth quality and packed with flavour. My family and I had a very enjoyable time . A bonus is the amazing beach view that can be enjoyed whilst taking a stroll after the heavy meal.
The place is beautifully made but dimly lit. The only thing good at intercontinental was the service and food at this place. Seating was very comfortable. Coming to the food ordered the Asian green lime and coriander soup 5/5 which was very tasty along with the crisp sides they served. For starters ordered the crystal vegetable 5/5 and edamame dim sum 3/5 which was good especially the vegetable dim sum. The lotus stem was too sweet 1/5. Ordered the hon shimeji 4/5 which was glass noodles served in a mock tail glass which was also very good. The Cheung fun crispy vegetable 4/5 was very good with rice roll over crunchy vegetable. For main course ordered the fried rice and Hakka noodles which was good 3/5. Ordered the home made orange ice cream which was bitter and they replaced it with the wasabi ice cream which was good. Overall a good experience.
I was here on my 8th Wedding Anniversary on 27/1/17 and had a chance to savour chef curated menu as follows:
Ma Po Tofu
Minced mushroom, prickly ash oil
Four Style Vegetables
Toban Chilli Sauce
Stir Fried Chinese Greens
Steamed Chilean Sea Bass
Black bean sauce
Stir Fried Chicken
Spicy Mala sauce
Prawns with Water Chestnut
Pickled Chilli Sauce, Almond Flakes
Wok Tossed Hakka Noodles
Burnt Garlic Jasmine Fried Rice
Green Tea Panna Cota &
Anise enhanced chocolate dome, Mandarin Ice Cream
What did I like the most?
1) Ambiance
2) Taste
3) Quality
4) Quantity
5) Choice/Assortment
The place is located very close to Mahabs which means anyone who is planning to go in a trip over there can surely stop over here. Located close to sea, you can have moonlight dinner apart from hosting your marriage by the sea.
Food was prepared in real quick time and was served hot which emanated great aroma making our taste buds crave more for it.
The masala were mixed picture perfect without giving any chance of further improvement. The blend was right each time and every time. Prawns, Chicken were well cooked. I had a chance to taste various taste be it hot, spicy, bitter - you name it, you have it.
Best part was despite having so much, our stomach never gave a trouble or the sense of being over filled.
Went for lunch on Sunday. A very very long drive from the city. That's a big minus. But once we were there the service was outstanding. Chef Tenzin took care of everything. The pork was outstanding as was mutton chops. The Momos & desert were more of an art. slight shortfall in taste if any were made up for in service. Yea the price was steep, 3,000/- per head but it certainly was worth it but the long drive back home made it exhausting. A special mention of both Tenzin & Aman - thanks guys!!
Contemporary Architecture meets Nature and one such outcome was the Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts in Nemmeli. Have always been mesmerised with the beauty of it. Enter the premise and you are totally transferred into another place - Serene and Peaceful!
After my Degustation Menu experience at Melting Pot last year (Which can rightly be called as an 'Experience'), I'd been eyeing Tao Of Peng, their Chinese Restaurant. Got an oppurtunity to taste a few Dishes from their Stall at a recent Food Awards Show and that's it, I knew I'm going there soon. Happened to go twice to Tao Of Peng. First time was a belated celebration of sorts and the experience was so awesome that I went with another set of friends within a short span of time. So, this is a compilation of two visits.
Tao Of Peng operates only for Dinner on Weekdays and on Weekends for Lunch and Dinner. Mondays Holiday. There's an option for A la carte or Set Menu. Set Menu is more like a Degustation of their A la carte. It can be customised to your choice. Both the times, we chose to leave the choice to the Chef. The cost of the Set Menu that we opted for was 2250++ which works to 2800 and odd per head - Worth every penny. Reservation, a day prior is recommended for the Set Menu. Made reservation 2 days prior both the times and first visit was for Non-Vegetarian Set Menu and the Second Visit opted for Vegetarian Degustation Menu.
For those, who don't like to read long stories. Stop right here because the verdict is - go to Tao Of Peng at the next given chance or plan your special day there. Period! For the curious like me, Read on! š
Non-Vegetarian Set Menu: (Weekday Dinner)
Amuse-Bouche: Honshimeji was the prettiest thing that I saw that day. Too cute to be put in mouth. But, I'm glad I did. It was heavenly in taste. Looked simple but there were quite a few elements on the Plate. It's Marinated Glass Noodles served with Pickled Shimeji Mushrooms, Garlic Chives Flower (That strong Garlic Flavour will linger for a long time on your palate), Edible Flowers, Szechwan Emulsion - That's some effort for one plate. And that's where I knew, I'm going to have a hell of an experience that day.
DimSum Platter: I would like to call it Edible Art. The Chef created a Masterpiece on the Slate. A clear cut case of 'Beauty with Brains'. Not just looks, every morsel from this plate was delicious.
The Chef begins with throwing Preserved Oil (It's a tedious process to make this oil) then adds Beetroot Emulsion, Sesame Crumble, Dehydrated Black Bean Dust. Adds Red Radish, Edible Flowers, Garlic Chives Flowers, Finely Julienned Green Capsicum and Chillies. Salmon Caviar was placed first and then the Chef starts placing the Dimsums, portions shared equally for 3 people.
The Dimsums were: Lobster Money Bags, Sea Bass Dumplings, Prawn Hargao, Pan Fried Chicken Dumplings, Assorted Mushroom Dumplings and Edamame Dumplings - I would love to explain each of the Dumpling šÆ but it's going to make the already long write-up more longer. One word - Mind Blowing!
From Chef's Plate: Easily one of the best piece of Prawn that I've ever had (No Exaggeration there). The Wasabi Prawns was perfectly Crispy, flavoured with Fragrant Chilli and the Wasabi Emulsion lifted the whole thing to the next level. Divine!
Main Course: Cantonese Egg Fried Rice - Simple yet Superb. The Hoofan Noodles was something that I've never had before. The Noodle was Rectangular in Shape and loved this so much that I requested this again while I went the second time. Highly recommended.
Stir Fried Chicken in Spicy Mala Sauce, Wok Fried Diced Tenderloin (Angus Beef š), 24 Hour Cooked Pork Belly (The Chef explained how it's made). That was some spread!š
Desserts Platter: Similar to the Dimsums Platter - Beautiful Plating!
Green Tea Pannacotta was okayish. The Wasabi Ice Cream isn't everyone's cup of tea. I certainly was okay with the strong Wasabi flavour. What took away the award was the Orange Blossom Ice Cream which had Orange Zest and Sichuan Chilli in it. Loved it. Licked the slate clean.
Vegetarian Set Menu (Weekend Lunch):
The Zesty flavour from the Asian Green Soup tasted pleasant and refreshing. Loved it, totally.
The Dimsums Platter: The Base was created with Preserved Oil and Szechwan Emulsion and the other elements thrown in were - Sesame Crumble, Dehydrated Black Bean Dust, Red Radish, Edible Flowers, Garlic Chives Flowers, Finely Julienned Green Capsicum and Chillies.
The Dimsums were: Edamame Dumplings, Assorted Mushroom Dumplings, Crystal Vegetable Dumplings, Corn and Asparagus Dumplings, Pan Fried Shanghai Vegetable Dumplings. All of them tasted delicious.
From Chef's Plate: Shamelessly asked the Chef to somehow include the Honshimeji in the Menu (Yeah I can be that shameless when it comes to good foodš). The Chef was generous enough to include it in the Chef's Plate. And the other Dish on the Chef's Plate was Crispy Lotus Stem. This was another mind blowing dish. The Lotus Stem was enhanced with Black Pepper Sauce and Szechwan Emulsion. Awesome!
Maincourse: The Spicy Fried Rice and the Hoofan Noodles were the best. My love for Hoofan Noodles only grew more š.
The Mapo Tofu was a bit bland but can't do much with Silken Tofu, I guess. Stir Fried Exotic Greens were perfect. Loved the Snow Peas, Asparagus and the Pakchoy combination. Four Styled Vegetables in Sichuan Sauce was too good. The Meat Eater in me didn't peek even for a minute. Totally satisfying Vegetarian Meal.
Desserts Platter: The Base was Chocolate Ganache and Mango Coulis. Loved the Orange Blossom Ice Cream and the Raspberry Mousse. Star Anise Enhanced Chocolate Dome was tasty. Fresh Strawberries added the necessary balance to the Dessert Platter. Loved it!
Special Mention to the Chef Tenzin who explained patiently and never got tired of my questions. It's very rare to see a Chef saying - I've been excited about this Meal and thinking about what to serve - That enthusiasm earns my Deep Respect. And, last but certainly not the least Karuna Amarnath - Who patiently answered my queries at Midnight. I just wish I could be half patient as her. Admire her for that. Thanks to these two great souls because of whom I had an exciting kick start to this Food New Year š.
First, this restaurant gets 6 on 5 for service. The chef, sous chef, restaurant manager, service staff...all of them managed to convey a warmth that as professionals howmuchever we try, a sense of following an SOP always comes through, but not here.
Prawn and chicken dim sums (har gau and siu mai, or shumai ) were fabulous. Chef asked us to try the prawn cheung fan which was a crispy prawn dumpling in a rice noodle wrap. Amazing as well. Seafood clear soup was good.
Having had 7 plates of dim sums and two soups between two adults and two kids, we were a bit full and went conservative on the main course. A mistake. We should have still tried their slow cooked pork belly, stewed duck etc. Instead we ordered stir fried prawns, tofu and mushrooms with Cantonese fried rice and hufan noodles. Prawns and noodles were too spicy for our liking (should be fine for most Indians - we have zero chilli tolerance). Chef was immediately willing to replace the dish but we were too full, so can't complain as restaurant was willing to make amends. Maybe we just ordered wrong.
Then the dessert platter was a piece of art and the piece de resistance. Attached photo doesn't do justice due to poor lighting (a very dimly lit place) and my photography skills, but still should convey the scale and effort.
Our meal, including a 10% tip and excluding dessert and drinks was Rs.10K.
Fantastic ambience, great food and profuse hospitality ....... please try the stir fried greens and fried rice of your choice amongst others and you shall not be disappointedĀ ...... would be back for sure .... one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants in south India ...

Disclaimer: Itās a lengthy post. More like a narration of an out-of-the-world experience than a review. So I won a stay for two at Intercontinental, ChennaiĀ (blog coming soon) by winningĀ a contest they hosted and I chose to stay there forĀ a very special occasion (shh, itās a secret). The complimentary breakfast being at the Melting Pot, we chose Tao of Peng for dinner. It was a very special day and knowing Chef Avinash personally, I just asked him for two favors (if possible):
1 ā A quite corner at the restaurant with a candlelight dinner arranged for us.
2 ā A surprise cake at the end of the dinner.
But but but, I forgot itās Intercontinental folks I was talking to and IC is all about your Experience. Chef didnāt just surprise my special person, he surprised me too. How? Click on the blog link and Read on.
Fantastic food and even better hospitality. š When you're on the ECR and feel like having something Chinese, this is the place you gotta be at! 'FULLY SATISFIED'. Intercontinental never fails to maintain its standards.
Good food.. amazing place..
The Chef did an excellent job.. one of the best Chinese food I have tasted.. we had a pe tenderloin (black pepper sauce) was at its best. Lobster dim sum, prawn appetizer, Black bean ice-cream, sorbet, the puddings were all great. The resort itself was very very beautiful. We went for dinner, though it was late, dark.. the resort was just BEAUTIFUL! We ordered food went to the beach for like 15 mins and got back for hot mouth watering food. One of my best experiences for a Sunday evening.
I enjoyed dinner at the Tao of Peng. The truffle Edamame dumplings, steamed prawn cheung fun were really good. We also enjoyed the stir fried greens and garlicy rice. Everything was really great! I think the dumplings were better at red lantern (Bangalore) and yauatcha (Bangalore). But the Greens and garlic rice were exceptional here. The ambience is really great for a romantic dinner. Since we had a fussy four month old baby, it wasn't really ideal for us.
Wow! Wow! Wow! The food is to die for. I agree, it needs deeper pockets but I couldn't tell which dish was better. I was there for a special occasion and I couldn't have found a better Chinese restaurant. Truly the best Chinese food I've had. The food was on point, the hospitality was on point and ambience was on point. Highly recommended. Cheers!
