The best ghee roast dosa you'll ever eat in your life. Make no mistake of it. Perfect for long drives on Sunday mornings, followed by a movie in Mayajaal. Being a Pondicherrian, I used to patronize this joint frequently, but I hadn't been here in a long time. Putting a bite of the delectable ghee roast in my mouth brought a nostalgic (read melodramatic) tear in my eye :').
We were a family of 18 and ordered all types of food. South Indian was great and North Indian was good. Would recommend for anyone veg near Mahabalipuram
Located on the ECR - East Coast Road, Motel Mamalla is a great place for South India food. Must try - Ghee Roast, Masala Dosa, Paneer Dosa, Ghee Masala Dosa and of course, Filter Coffee!
There are very few pure veg options at Mahabalipuram and if you want to try out a different place for lunch (meals) , then Motel Mamalla is the place . You are served nearly with 10 sides (including sweet, curd etc) along with Chapathi and Rice . A decent veg meal for an effective price . The service was quick as well . The ambiance is very normal and there is ample space for parking .

It was during a sunny Thursday afternoon that I had stopped for here for a quick lunch after some work at Mahabs.
Its located on the left side of the road towards ECR, probably a kilometre away from the actual Mahabalipuram city.
A neat and clean ambience with about 10 tables that can seat upto 40 people on the go.
I was here all by myself, so kept the orders very simple. I ordered for a portion of Vegetable fried rice and Paneer manchurian along with it. Vegetable fried rice was good, with all the necessary vegetables in good portion that can be shared by two easily. The manchurian was great, soft medium sized paneer in a spicy, tangy and sweet sauce. One perfect side to the main.
The cost is very much easy on the wallet.. The quality of the food is good too. Definitely a great option for pure vegetarians who visit Mahabs.
This is the same place my school took me after visiting Mahabalipuram for picnic as a kid . Visiting this place after years still feels the same . It’s a vegetarian restaurant with drive in option also . I was there with my family this time .

We ordered sambar vada which was served hot and sprinkled with onions . It was very good . The kal dosa was also good with chutney and sambar . Paneer butter masala wasn’t that very good . The laccha paratha was small but the taste was good . Hot chocolate was average in taste . As a whole the food is good .
This is a place you can rely upon when you go to Mahabalipuram .
My family come here often. We always have breakfast here en route to Chennai via ECR. Very tasty food and amazing service. The orders are delivered quick and hot. Very customer friendly.

Mamalla is located in the ECR just before CCD. It has got a decent parking facility with decent restaurant setup. The place is mostly crowded all the time. I would suggest this place for breakfasts and I really enjoyed eating their butter cheese dosa. I would definitely go back there just to eat that dosa. It did taste so good.

A frequent traveler to Pondy via ECR, we start early and plan to take our breakfast here @ Mamalla.. This time the trip was not to Pondy but since we were close to this place at breakfast time, this sounded to be the best option.. Had Dosa, Vada (was very hot & fresh), Poori and Lassi..!! Just no complaints, enough parking space, quick service, Ok Restrooms (really important in highways)..!!

This place is located in mahabalipuram.we take a ride to spent some time on a weekend from chennai.we had decided to have lunch over here.but its over crowded.we had waited around 30 minutes.noodles,fried rice all were tasted good and the rate was also above average.if you want to spent a leisure time then its not reecommended because this place will be crowded during weekends.
Myself with 5 others went to Pondicherry on a business trip for a day. We had breakfast and dinner while going and returning. This place is easy to locate. Few kilometers from Tiger Cave before Mamallapuram deviation when heading towards Pondicherry.
Have ample space to park vehicles. Restrooms are ok. Ambiance of hotel is simple and decent. Service was quick and good. All the items in the menu whatever we ordered are available. Decent menu for families.
We ordered several items, check the bill attached for content. Most of them were decent. May not be overwhelming but decent enough to try. We liked their special fried rice more but it was bit oily. American Chopsey was better than we expected. Sauce is bit strong which fills us quickly. Pongal was excellent.
Price is reasonable. Full value for money. Worth a visit.

We were starving for some food and scrambled into this place after spotting a few cars parked in the driveway. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this place ticks all the right boxes in terms of service, food quality, prices and cleanliness. The dosas and vadas are very tasty and the coconut and tomato base chutney are a pure delight. The pongal can be avoided, it's a bit too dry.

Located on the East Coast Road, it's very easy to spot this huge Motel. Parking is spacious. This has been my stop since forever!
Ambience is neatly stacked tables with sofas for chairs.
Considering I've only had breakfast everytime, the menu seems to have all south indian, that's there.
Tried the poori, dosa's, idly, oothapam and coffee. None of which has been a let down. Had the cheese dosai and Sambar Vadai this time. The cheese Dosa oozed cheese and was super filling. The Sambar Vadai done just right with chopped onions doing the 'cherry on the cake' job.
Services is prompt.
The bill usually comes upto INR 80 on an average which is totally justified.

Awesome food...Just visited this place after watching the awesome sunrise in mahabalipuram.... Just had breakfast here.
They provide very tasty breakfast in ala-carte as well as buffet. Buffet is just for 237 bucks inclusive of taxes. Very very tasty food and the best part is that they have CCD coffee machine which is in ala-carte as well as in buffet.
They didnt even charge for parking vehicles inside.
Looking forward to stay if i visit mahabalipuram again.!!
A great stopover on the way to Mahabalipuram or even Pondi.
When in Rome, order the quintessential fare. You will be disappointed with the North Indian fare but the South Indian cuisine is quick and pretty good. Dosas are very crispy.
Language is not an issue as they understand English as well as Hindi.
When you are hungry and eat North Indian meal in this place, nothing can beat it. The food is really awesome here, but I can't say the same thing about the staff working here. Only due to food quality I visit this place again, but really the owner should think about the service also. A customer should be treated well as we are not going to eat here for free.

No doubt the south Indian meals at this MOTEL is just yum but the staff are not as friendly as a customer wants them to be. The ambience is decent whereas the crowd is fluctuating in terms of behavior. Not every set of customers come here is decent. But in terms of food, its tasty and I would rate 4 altogether.

The place is pretty easy to spot. It's quite close to A2B on into mahabalipuram town. I have had obly breakfast and dinner and its quite good . the ambience is like any other motels u find in ecr. In fact it's better than most of them. The waiters are responsive and service is fast.
The mushroom dosa is a must try. And their onion rava is good too. Dinner times tend to become crowded since this is a stop for private buses.
Overall a good place for a quick bfst when on a drive to pondy or mahabalipuram and a quick dinner while returning.
This is a very old and popular establishment and a great place for a morning tiffin on a Sunday morning on the ECR. I have been there with a group of friends for morning breakfast and the food was pretty decent. Hygenic and good value.

I really love to stop at this place after an early morning sunrise glance and it have become my favorite hangout every saturnday , the puri sabji is oil free and the dosaa are excellent , but idlis needs being improved

Don't judge a book by its cover, same applies to restaurants too. Easy to get fooled into thinking that food may not be up to the mark as it's right on ECR, however for a small, locally run joint, all their staff truly appreciate your business.
This is my 4th visit in as many months. Food is consistent, healthy,hygenic and tasty, nothing to complain. Even the regular water they serve can be had without any fear. They serve mostly staple south Indian Tiffin and rice items, dosa,iddly, pongal, rava Sosa, filter coffee etc. Had idly, pongal, sambar vada and coffee with a friend. Sambar vada was not fully soaked and seems to have been done up in a rush rest were really yummy and prices are reasonable. Parking is plenty,clean bathrooms, attentive service and awesome food. Been here many times over many years. Good vegetarian fare, clean place, reasonable prices and good service. The south Indian dishes are our favourite here. Very conveniently located right on the ECR, just outside the cramped up town, with ample parking. Like most restaurants in this tourist haunt, it's extremely packed on weekends and quite free otherwise. If you aren't the finicky 5* type, you'll find Mamalla a delight.

We visited Motel Mamalla for lunch during trip to Mahabalipuram as experimental visit in the search of veg restaurant other than A2B and ended up having 3 meals there. The food was all good, service was very good and customer experience was awesome. Apart from food, they had full focus on customer experience where small acts make a lot difference. Staff was very courteous and polite, keep a check on your table and act proactively to serve you better. Hygiene was to that level that one dedicated person is employed to clean spilled water around washbasin after every handwash. Not only serving staff and manager but the owner also checked on quality of food and service.
Just one point to highlight, you may get limited choices for north Indian main course but they do have all regular/ main items with good taste. Thanks to staff for an awesome hospitality.

The good old Hotel Mamalla is still holding the charm. It was weekend and I know Mahabalipuram will be too much crowded. I was looking for a veg hotel and I was getting bored of A2B. That time I saw hotel Mamalla in OMR just outside the entrance of the town. A spacious car parking available.
Food was delicious. Service was spot on. Waiters don't make us to wait for food. While that's a good point, they make us to wait for bill because they are keep on serving other tables and that's the only point I need to mention where some improvement is required.
We went for a group heritage walk at Mamallapuram and had our breakfast at Motel Mamalla. They have organized it very nicely with nice atmosphere. Food was tasty and served hot. The waiters were very kind and responsive.

Had meals, veg pulav and buttermilk. For 2 people the bill amount is 400. Only available veg restaurant in and around mahabalipuram is Mamalla ..have good parking facility...
Staff have to bit smiling and welcome the guests. No one is even talking or welcoming when we enter...that shld change.Overall nice place , good taste and quality. Reasonable price.

Breakfast was great but I was not so happy with the use of mushroom in dosa, as my dad is allergic to mushroom and was hence not able to order his favourite onion oothapam. This could've been fixed by the restaurant by initially itself offering to make necessary arrangements for the same.

Firstly the ambience was too good.. well maintained .. I went in night time.. there are so many places to dine in.. u can go inside the restaurant and sit also u can sit out and enjoy the breeze over there .. also there is tv places out to enjoy.. it has a large parking space.. if u can't step out of your car u can ask them to serve in Car.. lovely ambience.. perfect place for dinner date .. staff was friendly.. I ordered mushroom briyani, pulka with panner aloo curry and set vadacurry dosa.. mushroom briyani was THE BEST and others were above the moderate not the best but it was good... U can also access the roof top of the hotel.. perfect place to take family , friends and lovers.. My bill rate was only 399.. worth the price... Do visit motel mamalla and enjoy
Smoothest service ever. The staff is highly coordinated and managed well. The idli and sambar was the best I had in a while. My other also enjoyed having Tiffin with onion chutney.
