The ambience is excellent, and the unique concept of selecting live sea animals from a pond for your meal is intriguing. However, the food taste was decent. There's room for improvement in service; often, when we requested one thing, they brought something else.
Alai Osai turned out to be a pleasant surprise during an unplanned visit. Without prior reviews or menu perusal, it proved to be a decent restaurant. The live seafood options were noteworthy, although the cooking style for lobsters left room for improvement—opting for grill or continental style might enhance the experience. The night ambience, complemented by a small pond in the middle, provided a comfortable dining atmosphere. While the food taste was decent without reaching extraordinary heights, the overall value made it a worthwhile choice for an impromptu dinner.
The ambience was very good. They allowed kids to try a hand on fishing in the pond inside the restaurant. That was great fun.
Food was nice. Sea foods were very good, whereas, chicken and mutton was not up to the expectations.
So to sun it up, great place for sea foods and unequivocal a good family restaurant.
It was a nice experience for the kids to catch the fish from the pond and have that on the plate.
They had other live sea fishes, crabs and Lobster as well.
We ordered fish, chicken and mutton dishes and a few vegetarian dishes. The taste of food was very good. The rates are little on the higher side but not as much compared to those in ECR. It might be a bit hot during lunch time. Best after the sun sets.
The ambience is great. They let you catch fish from the pond and cook the same for you. The food is super tasty. A must try dish is their chef's special Crab masala.
Ideal for big to small families. A definite pitstop for all seafood lovers. The fish yourself and eat is a unique selling point here.
The ambience is nice. We started with a veg hot and sour soup the tanginess and the spice was to the point. A really good veg soup I had in a while. Charcoal mint prawn was amazing it had the perfect juice in it and a bit smoky with the mint chutney it was really great. This is my favourite for now. The paneer tikka was really good too. For main course we had ghee rice, mushroom kadai and chettinadu chicken, this was nice but both the gravies could have been better. The chicken quantity in the gravy could have been more. All other things were great. One of the good sea food places at ECR.
Good ambience with friendly staffs. Fish hook and cook was unique experience. Nandu rasam, Dragon prawn must try. Good atmosphere for families..
If you’re ever on this side of Chennai and enjoy eating seafood, you must come and try the food. I had the fish meals and fried pomfret(these can be shared). They have this cool pond in the middle of the restaurant where you can hook and reel a fish. Nice place for a family meal, friends gathering or any occasion.
It's a very unique place for family outings and team outings...they usually have the same menu as many restaurants but the unique one is they have an artificial pond in the centre of the restaurant and they offer us for the best experience of fishing and if we want to cook what we got in the pond nice one but it takes toooo long to catch one that's awful😅 but I love that option and dishes are good try once with ur family and friends this place don't disappoint for the 1st timers....and also they have party hall for the celebration ❤️
Loved the Atmosphere, it rained mildly when we were eating. The pond in the center is awesome. A lot of thought processes has been put into the aesthetic of the place. Some dishes are very good like prawns pepper fry , some are just ok like fish biriyani. Overall they are good . I just loved the place while it was raining. They have live stock where u can select and prepare you dish
First of all, every niche place to have lunch or dinner. Ambience was very good.
Meals was good. It comes with Nethili fry, Crab Thokku, Fish gravy, Prawn Thokku, Rasam, Curd, and Appalam.
Fish gravy was very good. Not good to extend to take parcel 😎. Prawn was fried perfectly.
Crab Lolipop was amazing. Perfect cooking.
Parai Meen was nice and crispy.
Overall Bill was very descent.”
Best place. Awesome ambience. They bring food in stainless steel plates which is the best thing I have seen. Usually even big hotels use plastic or ceramic items. But here its stainless steel plates with banana leaf. You can choose the live fish from fish tank or even hook and catch and get it cooked. Dining places are like individual hut roof like setup. And there is also private one on top for celebrations or party. They cook food based on taste and ask especially when asked for kids. Overall a quality place to visit

The taste of the food was excellent. This place has a point to kill and eat concept. You can fish and eat. Live counters are excellent. Live crabs. Live prawns. Live fish snake head (Veral meen).
Ambience is good.
Alai osai provides a similar experience to that of Thoondil restaurant. You get to pick and choose live fish to be cooked, or you can catch fish from the pond and have it cooked for you. Prices are a little high but not too high. The tawa fish fry was excellent, the masala used was authentic although i did not enjoy the other varieties (chettinad) as much.
Its different hotel experience. We fished in the pond and it was cooked and served. Atmosphere is also very good. Will visit again if time permits.
