It's a fancy restaurant and the environment and vibe of the restaurant is just amazing. The fountain area, the lawn and the beautiful lightings make it look extremely beautiful. I had ordered for a squid ghee roast and a crab Tandoori. The taste was good. Crab Tandoori is by far the costliest dish I've ever eaten. I had taken the whole crab 🦀 just to try that once. It costed me 1700+ rupees with additional GST. Quite a big hole on my pocket. Although the waiter had already informed me it all depends on the size of the crab. The waiters were courteous. You can give this restaurant a try for a fancy lunch or dinner.
One of the finest in mangalore.. from ambiance and food to service.. Ambiance is colonial, Food is amazing, from soup-starters to main course. Service is quick and professional. They have seating outside as well.. overall a great place to spend your perfect evenings.
The much talked about Gajalee! Finally got to taste their food. Tried a variety of dishes from here. Ordered paneer tikka, squid ghee roast, mutton sukka, kingfish masala fry, prawns pulimunchi, kori roti, neer dosa and chapathi.
The best among these were the squid ghee roast and kori roti. They were amazing.
The other dishes were not as great as we had expected. The mutton sukka was really good, just wished the mutton pieces were smaller and softer.
Kingfish masala was okayish only, the kingfish didn’t taste fresh.
Prawns pulimunchi was good. So was the paneer tikka.
Neer dosa was just decent, have had better ones.
So overall, I would rate this restaurant somewhere between 3.5 and 4.
I have already mentioned in the review about two other Mangaluru must-visits — Machali and Mahesh Lunch Home — that a single dish should not be considered a decision-making peg for a blogger. I would like to make an exception for Gajalee on that front. Its Prawn Ghee Roast is an absolute must-have! Pair it with some good drinks, and you will find yourself in culinary heaven.
The best seafood and service in mangalore, hands down!!! Don’t look anywhere else, just trust the food and the wonderful staff!!! Me and my family had the most wonderful lunch here and we had the time of our life. Love love love!
4.5 Having eaten so many times at Mumbai Gajalee I was excited to try out the Mangalore one. And it was easily one if the best seafood outings for me. Everything we tried (fish, prawns, chicken, mutton, neer dosas) was lip- smackingly, gobbleworthy. One very fulfilling meal after a long time 😇
The best tandoori chicken I have had in South India hands down! I mean grill is good but I am a sucker for tandoori . Location and the ambience is great! Best in Mangalore for sure for peaceful delicious dinners!
The location of the place is absolutely beautiful. They have outdoors and indoors seating. We preffred to sit outside in such a lovely weather right beneath the stars. This is the first Gajalee restaurant and now they have their presence internationally as well.
We tried big size crab and some butter garlic Prawns and king fish. They have this wonderful drink and mocktails menu to choose from. My overall experience was just perfect here and I will definitely come back soon.
Mouth-watering sea food.
Crabs were delicious.
It is located in the circuit house area, a little away from the main city
Who has the buds for fish, it is surely worth a go. 🙂
Gajalee is located at a peaceful location just off Kadri Park and has a breathtaking view overlooking the city. The decor has a British era fine dining touch to it which adds to its charm. 2.5 of my stars are just for the decor and location.
Service is okay. When asked about the house special, the waiter just goes on reading the menu items. But the staff were courteous and polite.
Moving onto the food. It wasn't as great as expected. Barely decent. In their defense, I did not order seafood which was supposed to be their forte.
Butter naan and Neer dosa -
Butter naan was as good as it gets. Neer dosa which wasn't as kadak as it is supposed to be
Ghee Roast chicken -
Ghee Roast being a Mangalorean speciality, I was a bit disappointed. I've had some really good ghee roast at other places and this was no match for it.
Crab Tai Soup -
Crabmeat creamy soup. This was really nice though I think the crab meat was the off-the-shelf-frozen kind
Chicken chilly roast -
Dry starter and really good appetizer. Would recommend
Chicken Methi Garlic -
This main course with a hint of garlic and methi masala complemented the butter naan really well. Would recommend.
All in all, I'd rate it 3.7 - this place has a couple of good dishes. Definitely on the pricey end, especially for Mangalore. I would probably go again to try the seafood but doubt it'll be my go to regular.
We ordered the Fish Tiranga Kabab, Prawns Sukka, and the crazy expensive Crab Butter Pepper Garlic.
The fish can be avoided, as it is kind of North Indian, and also not that soft. The prawns were pretty good, and so was the crab - but as I said, crazy expensive!
Overall, worth a visit - if you order the right things.
Toh I had gone here year's back I can't forget the ghee roast with neer dosa I ate and now I've just been craving for it so bad. Hope I come back to mangalore just to have it again.
The Best place to enjoy seafood in MLR with drinks .. Pricy but ambiance has also a price. Has inside outside sitting place with great view of Mangalore city.. Enjoy dinner here .. Great place for big family dining..
Visited last Tuesday night. good restaurant with beautiful location. Visited lots off restaurant in Mangalore but this is my best choice. Staff was very friendly. Food was just OK . I had prawns and squid , both off same red Masala. Anjal rava fried is good . but sea food was little costly. I am from Bangalore . comparing Bangalore sea food rate and Mangalore seafood rate there is no different . pls guys check out your mane rate once again
Gajalee is well known for its sea food variety.
Happened to visit this restaurant having a nice view and great food, loved the ambience it has.
Squid Ghee roast turned to be the best, to our surprise..it wasn't spicy. The taste of ghee perfectly melted with every bite 😋😍
Also tried butter fish fry and prawns pulimuchi.
I personally prefer spicy food, but the spice added to food here was moderate. But apart from this I thoroughly enjoyed my food.
You can prefer this restaurant for family dinner. Also has outdoor seating arrangement for dinner.
Service - 4.5
Ambience - 4.5
Taste - 5
Value for money - 4.5
Recommend - 4.5
Good seafood. Slow but attentive service. Nice open air seating. Indoor dining is also available. Dinner for 2 cost us rs1000. Ample parking
This restaurant is actually a huge house near circuit house turned into a swanky restaurant. Not everything on the menu is great but some of their items are heavenly. As advertised seafood is awesome! Also, try their chicken cream soup and chicken lollipops I would really recommend them if you are not a seafood lover!
Best place to have Mangalore style seafood.Must try prawns ghee roast and pomfret masala fry and is very nice , did try some dessert........
In essence, Date night = Gajalee.
This has always been my favorite date night spot, especially if you both are fish lovers! Let's get into the details.
Ambiance: Set in a traditional colonial manglorean bungalow, overlooking the narrow bylanes and highway on either side, this is a beautiful place to be. A large central fountain greets you, with lawn seating towards the right and inside seating in the front. It feels as if you are walking straight into a ballroom at first sight. Luxe cutlery and fine linens are the perfect compliment to the delicacies served at Gajalee. The garden seating is romantic, with warm fairy lights glittering amidst nicely trimmed bushes and trees, overlooking the valley - right out of a movie scene. It is adorable!
Food: Even though I was a regular at the mumbai branch of Gajalee, this was my first time here. I am writing this review after visiting this place quite a few times now, so you can trust me when i say that the food never disappointed me. For a dish that I wouldn't want you to miss - I'd like to vote on the fish kebabs. Succulent, rich and perfectly cooked. Their prawns biriyani was also flavorful, and the portions are also satisfactory. Their neer dosa and ghee roasts are also yum! Although the food was great, their mocktails were not up to the mark. We ordered getaway sunsrise and jamaican nightput, but they were just commercial syrups poured over sprite/ lime soda.
Service : Prompt and friendly. However, the order takes plenty of time to come, so be prepared for the wait.
Value for money: 3.5/5
Aaikale Report Card : 4.5 out of 5 (Totally worth a visit!)
PS: If you are a person who prefers the outdoor seating, wear mosquito repelling creams / roll on and go. Mosquitoes can cause a nuisance.
Rest, go check it out and let me know how it goes! Enjoy!
Gajalee Sea Food is one of the finer restaurants in Mangalore, the spot not only known for its decadent menu. The spectacular view from the restaurant transports you away from the city, the restaurant isolated on a clifftop, the city visible from below. The seating is also partially outdoor, which adds to the ambiance. My friend and I dined here for lunch one day, getting a plethora of food. We had chicken ghee roast, pomfret curry, and naan, which was more than enough food for the two of us. The ghee roast was incredibly tasty, the chilies marinating long in the ghee, making the chicken flavorful. The pomfret was well cooked, the curry flavorful and filling.
A perfect place for a great sea food. Food is delicious. Service is excellent. Great ambience. The prawn ghee roast was lip smacking. As well as tandoori pomfret. Love to visit again.
Used to be a big fan of the original Gajalee in Mumbai , years ago , that is before they got popular with the in crowd and developed an attitude 😎 , however one thing that remained constant was the fact that they served the freshest sea food possible . A visit to this Mangalore made me go back to being a fan again. Located in a colonial bungalow inside the circuit house compound ,with an outdoor sitting area with a bird's eye view of the city , the place scores a perfect five on the location front . The minimalist , well spread out but formal seating inside the old wood beamed bungalow is really comfortable in addition to being real please try to the eyes.
Was there for a relaxed lunch with some friends and one complain I will start with is the service , though am not sure weather to blue the kitchen staff or the service staff , first the order took the longest time to come and more irritatingly , additional breads ordered mid meal took over 20 minutes to be served , it is a common practice in Indian meals to order additional bread mid order and most places serve that on a priority , so expected the same , anyways that was a small price to pay for an excellent lunch.
As we had two vegetarians amongst the four of us , in addition to the seafood and chicken ,we also ordered a portion each of Dal Fry and Veg Kholapuri and both these dishes were actually better than what we expected to find in a Sea Food specialty restaurant , full marks to them . For the carnivores amongst us we ordered a portion each of Prawn Pulimunchi, Chicken Ghee Roast and a tawa fry Pomfret , the fish and prawns were like a dream come true but the ghee roast could have been better. All this was accompanied by assorted nans and roties and some beer Dosas.
The combination of everything there translated to an afternoon , well spend , will definitely want to go back and will also recommend the place for relaxed get togethers.
ENJOY
When we spend so much we expect the food and ambiance both to be of top notch - this place just works for both the things.
The food b- both veg as well as non veg. The ambiance is of fine dine level and is more subtle. The staff are friendly and helpful.
I love the ambience here. Although we didn't find the food exceptionally delicious, it still is a nice place to have a relaxed meal. The hara bara kebab was way too bitter.
Gajalee Mangalore is the only Gajalee outlet (of the chain) that I was really awed by. The location is beautiful - on a small hillock in the calm Circuit house compound. The restaurant seems to be a makeover of a government bungalow - with antique furniture, high ceilings and cabinets.
Food : is amazing. The signature bombil (bombay duck), pomfrets , prawns, chicken sukka with neer dosas.
Service : is slow but then we were a large group, so that is understood. But a must visit if you are craving for some authentic malwani cuisine in a quiet, relaxed set up.
In love with the view... A hill top with good sea food and for the ones looking for a perfect evening...then this is the right place...
Ordered clams koshimbir, squids ghee roast, bombil fry, chicken ghee roast and rotis... The clams koshimbir was the best dish and we ordered again to njoi the dish...
The bombil fry was nice n crisp. The ghee roast as usual loved the taste and was nice and delectable.
The service was quick and only hindrance is the mosquitoes and insects if u plan to sit outside on the grassy area.. Overall loved this place and something that makes your visit worth it...
Amazing sea food restaurant... staff are very friendly and good at reccomendation.... solkadi was perfect and I will definitely be back again with my friends... thankyou.... pomfret tava fry was the best....
Reached Mangalore really late and what a good decision it was to chose Gajalee for dinner. The ambiance is awesome and the place is really well maintained.
The food is truly awesome, the best included the Stuffed Pomfret, Masala Fry Pomfret, Tandoori Crab and the Ghee Roasted Chicken. The Butter Garlic Prawns was okay as the hint of pepper was a bit too much on it.
For the main course, the Mutton Biryani was alright, but the Chicken curries, Kolhapuri and Butter Chicken were very well made. They truly know how to use the spices well.
Would have given it 5 stars but the pricing is on the higher side so a 4 suffices.
Visited all Gajalee outlets in Mumbai, none gave me the satisfaction than this one... A one off outlet in the cutesy neighbourhood of Mangalore... Everything from the food, to the ambience is epic... The taste is authentic, I haven’t had better ghee roast in Mumbai ever... The squid ghee roast is spicy and amazing... Will settle in Mangalore just to have food here on a regular basis... So do yourself a favour, when in Mangalore do pay this restaurant a visit for that ethereal experience...
Absolutely yummy food. Their Marwai sukka, chicken biriyani and fish fries are super delicious. Enjoyed everything to the last bite.
Great ambiance and service too.
Please continue the good and tasty food. Love this place.
What's In Your Menu.?!

After looking at reviews had been yesterday at a rainy day. The place is located inside the quarters and as soon as u reach a beautiful fountain welcomes you.
As expected, the food was really nice. Ordered Mangalore special - Chicken ghee roast which was spicy and tender. Butter nan with Chicken Rara was super tasty. Jeera rice was nice with gravy.
Staff are courteous and u have outside seating as well if u wish to drink. Altogether nice place to visit when u drop in Mangalore.
Best option for seafood in mangalore especially Crab ,Prawns ghee roast, Crab ghee roast, Squid deep fry with Neer Dosa and Chicken fried rice are my favourites here. Kulfi also available in Mango, Sitaphal and Malai flavours tastes good👍🏻Expensive but highly satisfied with the quality, taste and service by the staff.
It was during my recent visit to Mangalore, that during our ride from the Airport to the City, my brother who has spent 5 years in the city and knows Mangalore in and out, showed me Gajalee and said we should come here for a meal someday, they make terrific seafood.
We finally did go there couple of days later for a Sunday lunch. The restaurant is in the Circuit House Premises and is set in a beautiful colonial style bungalow. Though they have dining halls with air conditioning too, we chose to sit in the front verandah, and enjoy our meal looking at the beautiful view outside.
We ordered paneer ghee roast, chicken ghee roast, butter pepper garlic prawns, chicken maharani, methi Matar malai along with tandoori rotis.
The food was great, while we didn't enjoy the chicken ghee roast as much because it had large fibrous pieces of chicken with bone. But the rest of the meal was certainly a delight. The prawns were succulent, the paneer super fresh, the chicken and vegetarian main course were both delectable.
What I loved even more than the food is how beautiful the place was with its old world charm and the view!
Service was decent. Prices reasonable. Meal for 4 with 1 beer was around 2100/-
Unfortunately wasn't able to take any food photos, our waiter was very prompt in serving our food and once on my plate I couldn't wait anymore to sample it. 😅🙈
Food : 5/5
Service : 5/5
Ambience : 5/5
Price : 3/5
Overall: 5
This place is famous for sea food , Ambiance is good be it indoor or outdoor , but comparing to other seafood hotels little bit over priced for fish dishes.
Gajalee is known for the sea food as it’s located in a coastal area!
Mouth watering food with an ambience perfect for the weather of Mangalore city! Loved the Kane fish tawa fry & the bombil fry!
Gajalee is my ritual everytime I visit Mangalore!
We were on a trip to Udupi and Mangalore. Started very early from Bangalore thinking to reach Mangalore by lunch time. The road from hassan was not very good and took us a while to reach Mangalore.
It was my birthday and after searching on zomato for sea food places we settled on Gajalee and was definitely a good choice.
The place is huge and beautiful. Ambience was good. Service was very slow and staff was little arrogant.
For food we had ordered prawns, Bombay duck fry, Sumai curry and neer dosa.
Every tasted nice. I like bombay duck and prawns in particular.
Overall,
Food taste 4
Ambience 4
Service 2.5
Value for money 4.
Parking not a problem. They got parking place inside.
Heavenly crab ghee roast. Worth dying for. Sort of colonial feeling when you step in. Decent wait time for your food. Friendly and caring service.
This is my visit here after a long time.Standard ambience for this restaurant.Nothing extraordinary.
the seafood here is brilliant.we had lobsters, pomphret masala fry , prawns dry, roast chilly chicken .we liked the roast chilly chicken so much that we asked for two rounds of it .
we ordered the mutton curry with Mutton from bannur. It was so well done that the mutton literally slid off the bone with Neer Dosa .my friend Naveed loved the Neer Dosa because with had a shine he says is indicative That's it's freshly made .
we had fresh lime soda ..This place had really large parking space available as it's situated in the old government circuit house plot as well.the service staff were really great
Best place for seafood in mlore ....GAJALEE....a must try place ..warm n soothing interiors ...loved the Cosy seating arrangements ...the building is a traditional tiled roof bungalow ...great view of mlore from the garden ...hospitable staff ...service was quick ..the sea food was fresh ...neer dosa was soft n lacy ....prawn ghee roast was lipsmacking !! I Enjoied the neer dosa n prawn ghee roast combo !!
Obviously the go-to place in Mangalore for seafood. For starters we had the Reshmi Kabab and Paneer kabab, both of which were mouth-watering. Main course we checked out their seafood options, had the prawns biriyani and prawns ghee roast which was definitely worth the price.
The restaurant itself is spacious and beautiful and has A1 waiters.
Placed in a rather secluded locations of Mangalore, Gajalee is a drive away from the city. This place has a particular charm on its nights, as they are well-lit and is atop a small hillock!
I had been here mostly at nights and the ambience outside the yard is beautiful.
However, the food was nothing particularly special, it was ordinary and the service was a let down due to the long wait for food after the order.
And, as I'd say, no food price for any outlet in Mangalore is ever 'costly' if you compare it with other cities. This would be pricey if you compare other outlets in Mangalore.
Overall, a good place with average food and a lovely ambience!
Food :3.5/5
Service :4/5
Ambience :4/5
Price :3/5
This place is famous for sea food , overall the food here is average . Ambience is good be it indoor or outdoor . They usually suggest you crab but it’s not upto the mark as per specialty of a sea food place.
The best seafood restaurant in India, the crab Mai Thai soup and mixed seafood soup are simply amazing, the fish Kabab and fish Tikka are mouth watering, the sea Bass Chile and crab sticks are the best I have had anywhere in the country. Best place to go with family as the scenic view adds to the dining experience
Its in a beautiful location. The staff are friendly and polite... We ordered chicken peshavari(good, but very heavy), malai kabab(okay), tangdi kabab(nice).
The chicken biriyani was nice also but the nans were too chewy
Be sure to order the mushroom munchurian which is simply out of the world👌👌👌
Great for seafood. Part of the famous franchise and definitely lives up to the reputation. Excellent ambience, great choice in seafood - they bring the live crabs to the table if you need to know the size - and exceed variety in means to cook it as well, which is part of Mangalore's strength at any rate.
Food- 3/5
Service- 5/5
Ambience- 5/5
A beautiful and peaceful place to enjoy a lovely meal and family. The resturant provides good service and food.
We had ordered -
Fish kurkure ( fish cutlets) - wish was just heavenly.
Bombay duck fry -which was more of batter and less fish in it.( served with mayonnaise)
Clam Koshimbir -enjoyed the taste of coconut and clams.
Prawn fry - dipped in batter and deep fried. Yummy.( served woth mayonnaise)
Squid with butter garlic sauce - the sauce was okay.
Fish biryani- this was the best! Mackerel fish and the rice had amazing flavors.
Drinks - screwdriver, blush on ice and spice girl. ( mocktails)
Manchaow soup - really tasty
When ever you visit this place do try to get the porch area for the beautiful view to enjoy while munching down some amazing seafood.
The famous brand of Gajalee is in Mlore. The place is a bit outskirts with ample parking space. Its a luxurious bungalow turned into a restaurant. The ambience is wonderful and the place is huge. Seating is great and beautiful. The staff is friendly. Good place for a family outing. There is outdoor section with great view.
Now to the food part-
Its worth it! Really good food.
Try the chicken ghee roast with neer dosa
Bombay duck (Bombil) fry
The price is a bit expensive and quantity is a bit less.
Must visit in Mlore. Enjoy!
Been there for lunch with family. Our orders were Prawns Ghee Roast,Pomfret Tawa Fry, KingFish Fry, Pomfret Fish Curry, Dal Fry and Rice. All the items tasted really good. A bit expensive. Nice ambience. Would recommend for sure.
One of the best place for crab ghee roast, chicken ghee roast and neerdosa. It's nice location, no parking hassle and wonderful view around the restaurant. Nice people ,good ambience and very good seating arrangement.
Last time they served spoiled "checken" ghee roast and no reaction after we reported, it was so disappointed part from their end, their drawback is about their customer care. They are more into money and business rather than customer happiness.
If I am not happy, Gajalee will be our secondary option for dining. As long as they charging star prices, there should be someone call restaurant manager to take care of their customer needs and wants.
Accountability shall be defined and distributed.
Good luck team..
Gajalee is synonymous with sea food!! So when a vegetarian is here usually it's because they r with a group of sea-food lovers and have been vetoed! And so it was with me, I resigned to a fate of paneer and roti. But the place surprises and how! They have quite a few options for vegetarians, and none taste like the half hearted effort of a new chef who isn't allowed to cook the sea food yet!! All the dishes were freshly prepared and we'll spiced. Add to this the pretty Mangalore lights that make for a great view in the evening.
All in all a nice place for a good meal.
We chose this place to celebrate our 5th Love Anniversary and it was totally worth it!!!
The ambiance is beautiful with a Serene Cottage feel. The outdoor Fountain being the natural way of music and the dim interiors added to the beauty of the place.
The service was up to the mark with well spoken staff and timely execution of orders.
Our Order Being
Alphonso Mocktail: Its a Mango flavoured thick drink. The taste is slightly strong.
Bombil Fry: It is Mumbai fish commonly known as Bombay ducks. The fish being very soft was fried to proper crispness.
Prawn Ghee Roast: This is the best Ghee Roast dish we have ever tasted. Happiness in every bite. We strongly recommend this dish.
Squid Fry: The dish is good when hot. Slightly Bland.
Clams Koshimbir: The dish has a coconut flavour which lots of grated coconut. We had it with Neer Dosa. Quite filling.
Butter Milk: Yummmm!!! The Best way to end the meal.
Famous for sea food. Excellent taste. Good ambience. Ordered king fish masala which is prepared excellently. Calm place to vist ............
2 things that are a must-try here are chicken ghee roast and the in-season fish fry. Service is nice and ambience was good too. Liked the location particularly (on a hill top) so I remember it more than other places I visited.
Good ambience. Had Ghee Roast chicken, chicken biryani and chocolate mousse. Food was good. Chocolate mousse was too good. First time had chicken roasted in Ghee.
This is one of my favourite places to eat in Mangalore. And old style house which has been turned into a restaurant. Outdoor seating is available with a great ambience. Food is tasty and priced well.
Recommended: Biryani, roasted chicken chilli.
This place is known all over for its sea food. The Mangalore branch is typically an old, big house turned into a restaurant. Great ambiance. They have open air seating too. We ordered some mocktails which were average. Their Prawns Butter Pepper Garlic and Chicken Ghee Roast were good. I wish the quantity were a bit more for the price they command. An ideal place for a family or friends get together.
Tradition says it all... Mumbai ho ya Manglore swaad is always awesome. Garden seating with a glass of poison and the famous Surmai masala.....never ending experience.
Been in Mangalore for a year and a half...kept hearing about this place but could not manage to visit until it finally happened a couple of months back...and it was worth all the hype and wait!!! Fish preparations are simply worthy of all the praise in this world...add to that the open air seating...adds to the fish flavour...and the place was literally full on a mid weekday....overall a good experience!!!

Very good place , AC and non AC both , parking available and very tasty authentic mangalore sea food dishes .... best for family outing . Bar also available .. highly recommended
I would say that it was the best sea food I ever had in my life.
Please try ghee roast prawns. Mutton Rogan josh was also a very nice combination with jeera rice.
The ambience is nice cool and calm inside. Thanks to the air conditioners it kept the place cool.
The staff was nice to talk to and they made our visit a pleasant one.
Ambience is good and food is very tasty.I Ordered Bombil fry it was so delicious as if it just melted in my mouth. The price is quite justified for the food they serve. This place will never disappoint you. I would like to visit this place again!!
Fantastic preparation very good sea food
Ideal for seafood lovers, enjoyed the open air seating & lovely evening.yummy sea food.deserts are also good.
Nice ambience🍶, good service and tasty food🍜
The location is little out of the town. But the food is really good and the place is not overcrowded.
I was more into fish 🐠 ,rice ,dal etc..and it was really yummy 😋
I felt that the place is little out of town, but can be accessed by an auto from town if you don't have your own conveyance.
As a whole, it is a look good, feel good restaurant.
I was in a good deal of dilemma one what to rate this place. The reasons, are mentioned below.
The place in itself is a good one with both indoor and outdoor sitting arrangements. Overseeing the city nightlight the outdoor arrangements with the bar are actually quite good. Because apparently it was a British Era building converted into a restaurant, the construction is quite vintage with high ceiling buildings. Thankfully the interiors are much in line with the same vintage feel-the tables, chairs, pictures hung on the walls, lighting etc. Now, to the food. We ordered the Sea food soup first. It was just the perfect hot with finely chopped carrots, spring onions, chillies and garlic along with generous morsels of prawns and fish. The best part about the soup was it was very mild on the tongue and soothing to the throat. We then ordered Butter Garlic squid which by the look itself looked delicious! The typical problem with squids is upon cooking they become rubbery. However this dish broke that myth beautifully! With off white squid rings generously laced with butter and garlic sauce and pepper sprinkled overhead, this one is a real winner the moment you take the first bite into your mouth. The pro tip here is try eating it up when it's piping hot. The taste is again, mild and slowly grows on you. The smoothness of butter with the snazzy pepper flavor is an interesting one. We had also ordered Anjal tawa fry which though was the best Anjal I had tasted in a long time, was not as good as I anticipated it to be. If not in the mood for fish, you can skip this one. And finally we ordered white rice with Prawn Curry-the classic combination. The curry was tangy and light orangish in appearance- indicating addition of coconut milk. The flavor of coconut milk was quite obvious. The prawns were good in numbers and soft on the teeth. The gravy went beautifully with hot white rice. In all, a good meal finisher. The service was okay. What got me a little thinking was I had asked for the bill however when the bill did come, it went straight to my friend who was a guy-falling catch to the classic stereotype that when a man and woman are out, it is generally the man who pays.
Most would probably not even notice this act but for a restaurant which is regarded as the best for sea food in the city, the mentality that they reflect is just as much in purview as their food.
This one gets a 4 star from me only for its otherwise good service and very good food. Also, the pocket pinch is on the higher side.
Had been aching to go to Gajalee for a long time. I went there at almost closing time and was the only one there. The staff are nice and polite, the ambience is brilliant and the food is good for most parts. The problem was that I was served stale bombil and hence I am disappointed. The kane masala fry was absolutely mind blowing and the crabs was fresh and tasty. Hope they can avoid the bombil faux pas in the future.
Excellent food and beautiful premises make this place appropriate for anything from a date to a family outing. While veg is good in this restaurant, the ghee roast Prawn was absolutely delicious. The warm and friendly staff only made the experience doubly special. Looking forward to visiting your Mumbai branch. :)
An amazing place to have dinner, very good ambience, nice romantic atmosphere with a fountain at entrance. Service was good and the food was great especially sea food. I was glad that I read some reviews here, we ordered Prawn fries in green chilly sauce, the best I ever had and squid ghee roast which was scrumptious (no exaggeration there). I think this was the best sea food restaurant I ever had outside major cities. Price is little higher but definitely Must go place.
Very good ambience in winter. I am not sure about summer time. You can see whole Mangalore city from here. Try paneer ghee roast. It's awesome
Gajalee has an excellent set-up and location..very romantic and cosy ambiance. I have been to their Mumbai outlet too.
As far as the food is concerned they are known for their sea food. We went their for dinner had crab, surmai, tiger prawns, pomfret. Everything was very fresh, tender, well cooked. They showed us the crab live, and it was huge! Overall the place is nice, though little over priced as compared to other sea food restaurants in Mangalore.
fam time....
had taken fam here for its ambiance.
ambiance - i would recommend outside seating and as its m'lore only on winter else i'd presume in summer it would be a sweaty dinner.
food - good with coastal foods and not so good with north Indian food and very importantly pocket friendly.
well behaved staff, overall a good place with fam for sea food.
Place looks really pretty with outside seating as well. It gives a feeling of being in an old Portuguese house. I reached here very late in the afternoon. Unfortunately, they had only few dishes available at that time, so, me and my friends had ordered a hot and sour soup with prawns, fried rice, and one semi gravy squid starter. Everything tasted really nice. I would love to visit here again during lunch/dinner time and try other signature dishes here, whenever I visit Mangalore. It's a must go if you're looking for good ambience and food both.
Very nice ambience. We went there for lunch. Ambience is really nice. Very cool hangout.. Just like vintage hotel.. Tried crispy veg Manchurian, Ragi Manni. Very nice... very nice!!!
Definitely you will get Authentic Mangalore food..
Every year, we visit this place several times. The outdoor space is fun and comfortable when you have a huge family like mine with several kids. The broccoli veggie mix , crab soup, butter garlic shrimp.. are few of my favorites. The bombil fry is pretty yum. There's not much of variety but I guess it's alright. The butter chicken is not so intense so I'd probably recommend that as well. The taste of food is not so consistent .
Excellent overall dining experience, with tasty food. The delicious sea food and even Chicken dishes are the main attraction here along with superb classic dessert like Caramel 🍮 .
The only reason I am not rating 5 is that despite taking a Reservation, there was some confusion in sitting in AC or Non AC section.
The building where the restaurant is located is an heritage but very well maintained one. This adds to the eating experience there.
The staff were cordial but there was some co ordination issue with the front desk. Thus, it is recommended to ensure Reservation in advance and clearly ask for an AC or Non AC sections.
Some of the prices are not mentioned as they are decided " As Per Catch". Thus, it is better to ask the details if one is not sure of.
Overall, an excellent value for Money. Despite being an up market place, the prices are surely reasonable .
A variety of Seafood is available to order. The traditional Kori Roti was also delicious and very well cooked. Highly recommend 👌
Nice place to have lunch or dinner, not crowded during week days, this restaurant is inside Mangalore circuit house. I tried seafood soup, Seer fish tawa fry and Mangalore kori rotti. Food was average in terms of taste, Mangalore kori rotti doesn't taste authentic. You can do better Gajalee.
A great places to visit for seafood lovers. Recently visited this place with my family and we all simply loved the ambiance of this place, classic and elegant. The food was awesome, as a matter of fact we were so engrossed in relishing the food that we forgot to take some pictures of the food. Our order included: squid butter garlic, prawns masala fry, Bombil Rawa fry, chicken fried rice, prawns pulimunchi with neer dosa. Apart from this we had some great mock tails. For dessert we had some caramel custard.
Great ambiance and amazing food . The Kulfi and seafood is must try here, but the Bombay duck had barely any fish in it , it was just batter . The service can be improved . The rumali roti was well presented and tasted good .
A beautiful eatery with an old world charm, has adequate seating capacity, located in an old Bungalow, with fine decor, staff and food. A nice place to make memories indeed.
A grand place to have some good views with your friends and family and to make make memories! A great place to have photos! A memorabilia kinda place to have some good food and alcohol (if you want too).
They've got a great parking awesome!

One of the best restaurant in mangalore.
Parking facility is available.
Tried the many items here and all the items are very good. I liked it very much. Quality of the food is very good. Super service.
All the staffs are very good and they provided very good service. Sure willl visit again.
Food is normal spice and kids will like it more.
Food was very tasty. Service was also very good with supportive staff. Sol kadi and virgin mojito were very good. Super soft neer dosa with prawns ghee roast and silver fish gravy were so delicious as I was licking my fingers. Squid butter garlic was also very tasty. Followed by caramel pudding made our day. Thank you Gajalee
Been going there for last 10 years and have to say that food and ambience is top notch. We went last time on a busy weekend and the service was dismal, so they need to up their game on high traffic. Having said that, they've been consistent on quality and taste. I love their ambience and location.
I was never aware of this place but our driver suggested. This is one of the best places to have lunch or dinner around Kadri area. Whole place is calm, neat and has an appealing ambience. It has a traditional mangalorean appeal with its high tile roof, wide glass windows, corridors etc. There is also a out door seating area which provides the best view of Mangalore skyline.
Hotel staff was courteous to prepare food and serve us even when we have reached just before kitchen closing time in the afternoon. Service was quick and they did serve well. Quantity is adequate and many dishes come with good quantity which you can share. Taste is awesome for both traditional and continental preparations. Spice level is medium here, hence if you like spicy food you better tell them to prepare with extra spice. I had a great time having meal with the family.
They have got excellent staff here who are ready to help you any time (my mom was recovering from a surgery and walking with the stick , staff came to her support , provided the additional cushion required for the chair )
I would recommend this place to all.
