New Tajmahal Cafe needs no introduction, it's a legendary breakfast cafe in Mangalore. We ordered their signature tuppa dose, goli baje, biscuit roti, Mangalore bun, Banana halwa and filter coffee. I really loved tuppa dose, goli baje, Mangalore bun and banana halwa. Biscuit roti was kind of okay, maybe because it's cold and filter coffee was also okayish. This place is always crowded, so be prepared.

Located in the heart of the city at Kodailbail, this was our first pitstop in Mangalore. It is one of the oldest places in the city for Konkan & Udipi style breakfast and snacks. We tried the MOODE SAMBAR, KOTTIGE, BISCUIT ROTI, SANJEERA & TUPPA DOSE. Kottige and Moode are the distant cousins of idli which are steamed in Jackfruit leaves and Screwpine leaves respectively. The steam imparts a nice flavour. Sanjeera is like a sweet kachori and Biscuit Roti is it's savoury version made of suji. Tuppa stands for ghee and it's their signature dosa made with dollops of ghee. Pricing is extremely reasonable. A major letdown is the heat wave from the kitchen, inspite of the fans the place seems like a furnace inside. But leaving that aside a must visit place in Mangalore.
Great meal @70 . They provide puri, rice either white or boiled , cup of curd , three types of vegetable curry/ sambar, dal butter milk, sometimes kheer, at the end banana. It is all provided on a banana leaf. Good seating facility. Enough waiters for service.

The place holds a very special place in my heart.
I was always brought here by my grandparents on my visit to my native in Mangalore.
Ever since a small kid the biscuit roti was my favourite and after having tried it this time after a span of almost 8 years the taste and smell still feels the same.
It tasted amazing
Had the filter coffee
Perfect blend of bitter and sweet taste.
And not to forget the tuppa dosa served with chutney and sambar. Simple yet filling and extremely tasty.

There are some places which doesn't necessarily need a fancy ambience to flock people to the place. They just have to maintain their taste and standard and this place is definitely one amongst those.
Parota Kurma, Pulav, Roast Tuppa dosa, Plain Dosa, Theek Roti are the best which one can get over here. Anything from the above along with the famous Taj Mahal coffee is good delicacy for an evening meal. Except for some of the waiters the ambience is good.

One of the oldest Restaurants in Mangalore since 1926. Situated at the roadside clearly visible to pedestrian as well. New touch is given to the entire ambience nice and outside since that royalty is maintained. Natural light lightnens the entire space at daytime. Service is fast and quick. Food was delightful the proper Mangaloreans breakfast menu is available. Specially the Kottige, mude, pundi and all stuff's also the Biscuit roti and sanjeera tasted fresh and tasty. We enjoyed having our breakfast to the fullest. Since they're famous for their filter coffee they truly had that perfect aroma of coffee which made our day. They also have sweet section which again servers the must try manglore sweets. Overall it was a good experience.

New Taj Mahal Cafe is located near Nav bharat Circle. Best place for breakfast if in Mangalore. All the south indian stuff is good. Their chutney deserves a special mention, along with Mangalore buns and biscuit roti, which is like a milder version of kachori. Tried something called tuppa dosa during recent visit which is a crisper version of uttapam. Seating is non ac, can get hot in summers.
If you are looking for traditional mangalorean breakfast, then this is the place where your search will end. This place has old cafe vibes and serves the authentic recipes such as Kottike (Idli wrapped in jackfruit leaves) and Mangalorean buns are the best. Do try medhu-vada , it's too good. Probably the best value for money veg meal was available here. Rassam was very tasty. Dosas are okay. Filter coffee too good. But the best part was the waiter named "Krishna" who served us. He was extremely courteous. Do ask for his services when you visit.

Visited this place on Gandhi Jayanthi evening and the place was busting with waiters and diners alike. Ordered Mangalore buns, Goli baje but sadly we couldn't get Goli baje at that time.
The buns were crispy on outside and very soft inside with sweet banana flavour. Prepared freshly, hot with coconut chutney this could easily serve as a sumptuous breakfast or evening snack
The price was as inflated as the buns themselves - one plate costed 70 rupees!!

My First day in mangalore and as usual the first place we dropped by was the,”NEW TAJ MAHAL CAFE”. It was more of an antiquated and shabby old fashioned cafe or rather passé. The food here, especially the mangalore buns is something you must try. And the poori bhaji is also a good dish to have here. Before leaving don’t forget to take a packet of cashew macaroons for the rest of the day😁. Over all an ideal place for breakfast or lunch.

During my stay in mangalore, Taj Mahal was the goto place for breakfasts. I consider mangalore bun served at taj as the benchmark. In a word legendary place.
Very popular joint in Managlore a must visit if one wants to try typical South Indian brunch or breakfast. All in the menu is worth a try and one won't be disappointed, these have been doing this for generations now. Strong operational strength and even there is consistency in food. My rating is certainly 5 for the taste but the service isn't that great and for a successful legendary place like this the hygiene much below average.
I would strongly recommend the management that they focus more on hygiene. I wish you all the best.
This is one place no one should miss when in Mangalore. We went yesterday evening with the thought of having some dosa and filter kaapi.
The place is quite austre in looks but please don't let that fool you. No menu card here but the waiter will tell you that and some more and even give you some of his suggestions.
Try the south Indian idli steamed in jackfruit leaves with sambhar. Do not miss the mushroom masala Dosa. The stuffing will want you asking for more.
The tuppa dosa or ghee roasted dosa is the speciality and we had that too.
Buns and daalitoy is something else you must try.
Top it with filter coffee and we couldn't move after this over indulgences of your taste buds.

It's the ideal place to get a sumptuous breakfast . Evening chai with Goli baaje and dahi vada is to die for . Not big on ambience , it's retained the same old look . The prices have increased but only marginally . Their sweets and savouries are one of the best in Mangalore . Only grouse I have with this amazing place is the parking space and that it gets crowded in a jiffy . But I guess the latter problem is more to do with the fame of the place . Definitely a must try .

Serves traditional South Indian breakfast menu, Cafe Taj Mahal is another "hotel" which lives upto it's legacy. Will recommend this anyday if you are planning for a South Indian breakfast.

It's a really old place that is again a kind of a legendary place. It's always crowded at any point the day. Even at 6 in the morning, you'll see a lot of people in here. They have a lot of sweets and savouries too that you can take home. They offer a wide range of choices for you to choose from. We tried a lot of dishes and loved it.
We tried the Neer dosa, it was really good. i totally recommend it to any dosa lover. The mangalore buns were amazing. Do take it. The pathrode was good. We also had the capsicum and the cauliflower podi which is nothing but our normal bajjis and they were good. We also had the cucumber idly which was a sweet and my mom loved it. It's made with cucumber and jaggery and tastes delicious.Something that we had tasted before.We had the muude idly that is idly batter that's wrapped in a leaf and cooked and is served with chutney and sambhar. The kadla upkari was delicious which is channa that's tossed in cocunut oil and some tempering. We got to try a lot of dishes and it was packed with a lot of local flavour and i loved it :)

Reaching there for the first time, you could get the feel, that the place is too old and that makes us feel sure, that food will be good.

Our experience with Bun was so good, that in 3 days we went to this place 3 times and took the Buns every time.
This is THE place to be in Mangalore if you want to treat your taste buds with authentic Mangalorean/Konkani cusine. I visited on a busy Saturday morning. Tasted the famous Mangalore bun, masala biscuit and also Ghee dosa, Avulakki, Koli Bajji.
The taste of the bun was out of the world and it melted in my mouth. Equally the masala biscuit with chutney gave the spicy shade. Both these are a definite try here.
Avulaki( flattened rice upma) , a roasted rice dish with chopped coconut slices was more sweeter than expected. Try this only if you have a sweet tooth.
Finished my breakfast with a best filter coffee, aroma of which I still can imagine around me.
Overall it was a great experience. The pricing of all the dishes was very nominal.

This place is famous for its Tuppa dosa and Halwas. They start serving dosa only after 7:30 am. A strong coffee with dosa is classic.

Proper bill is given only in the presence of owner. If owner is absent then one has to walk to cashier and pay the bill for the said amount. Service is delayed so that owner leaves.

I love this place for the chutney, the magic ingredient in delivering the overall experience. All local varieties are excellent from buns to bhajji. Upma is a good try. Traditional Udupi style hotel with good humoured service staff. Restaurant is old, but AC section is new with adequate parking facility.
