I have been to Guthu a number of times. The food which we get here is an authentic Mangalorean food. Yesterday I went with my family . We ordered Chicken Manchow soup, Non Veg Platter, Chicken Ghee Roast, Chicken Tunday Kabab, Chinese Choupsey, American Choupsey and Marwai Pundi. All the items were very good. The waiter was also quick. But Neer Dosa was not available with them which we missed it.
Taste 4.5/5
Ambience 4/5
Value for money 4/5
Have been here on two occasions. One for a dinner with friend and other a team party. This might be a good place to go to with a bunch of people. The rooftop had a nice ambience with shacky decor , the rooftop is spacious but was poorly lit.
This is place is known for its authentic local cuisine. It might not be a great idea to order non indian food. My experience had not been great with it.
This is one of the best rooftop restaurant which I ever visited in mangalore. The food was so delicious. This restaurant is situated just near to platinum theatre opposite to Indira hospital. The food which they are providing is too tasty and mouth watering. Even I will give 5/5 for the ambience and the service. We feel like we are in a traditional village once we are in this restaurant. Also, the rate is not much higher comparing to the facilities and the ambience which they are providing, The staffs was too polite and well trained. They know how to handle the customers well. The main thing I noticed is that this is a family restaurant in which all the family members can enjoy their lunch or dinner. Even they use to serve the liquor as well like a wine and dine.
Kudos to the entire team
Ambience : The place is very family friendly as it is on a roof top and also features plenty of space for kids to run around (they also have a play area with toys). It's done up with traditional artifacts from coastal homes, give them a dekko!
The menu features usual Indian fare with a bit of Indo chinese thrown in; a standard mix of dishes that you'd typically find. Pricing is moderate, not too heavy on the pocket.
Taste: The food is tasty, we found it a bit too spicy for our liking though. One thing I'd like to mention is that their chef who makes the Chinese fare was never available, so they never had any Chinese items (read schezwan noodles, gobi manchurian...) whenever I visited. (I don't know if he's back yet.)
Service leaves a bit to be desired. We'd asked for our food to be parceled at the end of the meal, never got it. I think they were in too much of a hurry and threw it out...
Food quality and ambiance is good..we orderd tandoori chicken and chicken kabab..just loved the taste...as it is located in the rooftop the place stays cool and view is just awesome..
Place was good...top floor.. Amazing view...and to top it all really nice food...very prompt service time and the chixken dishes were really amazing...not to mention d dessert...nice place for a family dinner...
The first thing that comes to my mind when i think of dining in Guthu.. Their famous Chicken ghee roast. Spicy and one of the best with naan or chapathis.
Love the place for its dine in the woods kind of concept..
I had visited Mangalore for the first time. This restaurant was worth visiting during that time. The restaurant is a roof top one with a shed above and ambience like a village/farm and food is fantastic. A ordered some North Indian Chicken Curry with Butter Naans which was way above my expectations. The gravy had correct spices and chicken was perfectly cooked which made it quite delicious. Will love to visit it again on my next trip.
Nice ambience
Nice service

Great combinations
Negatives

Finding out is an atlas job
Yet it worth a taste

Decent place. The rooftop has got good ambience but pretty shabby. The food here is very good, the quantity is just decent. But a poor choice of menu. Very few items to choose from. The mutton dum biriyani was pretty tasty but i found no proper mutton pieces in it, had just got bones was expecting better at the price that was being paid. Overall a decent restaurant.
Personal opinion just for a one time visit, Would prefer the other restaurants in mangalore over this one.
This place has a good ambience. We love their rooftop. They also have a large screen for airing sport events which is a hit during ipl among teammates. I have been here multiple times and their chicken uruval is good and so is their paneer gheeroast. All their mangalorean cuisine based dishes are their strength. Service is attentive.
Awesome place. Roof top is amazing for a dinner.... Lovely ambience. Nice place to take that special someone. There is an AC reataurant on the 2nd floor and a roof top on the 3rd. Food is tasty and totally worth the price. Parking is easy to get.
I visited this place recently, it’s a nice place retro decor, serves tasty mangalorian dishes, try their marvai sukka ( dry shell fish curry) it was quite wonderful, but service not up to the mark
The place is good. Food too
Food is tasty and little costly. Alcohol is available.
I got to say I found the food real tasty.. And with a wonderful ambience.. It's a family restaurant with bar. But u find the atmosphere rather pleasing to be with family.. A normal place to sit n enjoy the food and a few drinks. The dim lit ambience is an add on.. Good place all together.
Nice rooftop restaurant. Decline in service quality recently. Used to be great before. Nice place to Hangout with friends and family. Average sea food. Needs to work on customer interaction. Calm and nice ambience. Good view of a part of Mangalore city from rooftop. Drinks served. Appropriate lightning at night.
It's been a friend's hang out for us for three years now, we love the ambience with mouth watering food..you must try the prawns ghee roast, squid sukka.. Yummiest ever.
We recently go to know village resorts are taking up the building but really hope the food taster is retained.
This used to be one of Mangalore's best restaurants, serving authentic coastal cuisine. However the place has since been taken over by different managements and has currently lost its charm. It is a bar and restaurant located on the top floor and is currently undergoing renovations. Do try their Guthu special chicken, which is chicken gravy wrapped in an omelette. A meal in itself!
I have been visiting this restaurant since about 2 years now. I really like this place. This is the place where you can hang around with the family and friends. The dishes here are really tasty and price also very acceptable. Parking is on the road but parking assistance available. Try to sit in the open terrace called 'Atta'. Make sure to try the local delicacy called 'Pundi'.I highly recommend this place.
Good traditional and authentic Mangalorean Tulu food and atmosphere and Ambience at the restaurant. The restaurant depicts the rich culture and heritage of Coastal Karnataka, especially Mangalorea. Good variety of sea food. Also has a bar attached, which I am not interested in. Overall good restaurant
Authentic mangalorean restaurant if u want to taste the typical old mangalorean food it's a good place with maintaining local village kind of atmosphere .
Mangalorean thali is good. Chicken starters are good especially chicken drumsticks with tangdi kebab. But u need to wait too long to serve the food.. chicken hakka noodles and dhum biriyani are really tasty ... Good thing about this restaurant is dessert & fresh like juice.. if u want to enjoy with bear & food one of the better place in falnir area...
The word 'Guthu' itself refers to tradition and culture that our Tulunadu is seeped in. The place is beautifully and tastefully done up with various artifacts which one would normally find in a Guthuda mane. When one enters the place, it feels like a different era. The cutlery and crockery that are used are made of fine copper with steel finish on the inside. I remember many years ago, we would eat our meals in such plates and drink from glasses and cups made of such material. It would be good for a newcomer to understand the reason for such a deco and the staff are very friendly and they would provide all the info required on the deco of the place.
The food is quite authentic (Mangalorean) and taste is very good too. The chicken sukka, ghee roast, maruvai sukka and many other preparations would surely make the Mangaloreans very nostalgic with the memories of a by gone era. Fish preparations are excellent too with authentic Mangaloreans spices used for preparations. The Thalis are very reasonably priced. Bar is quite well stocked too.
I have been there many a times in the past. I love the ambiance and the food. Highly recommended for people who would like an authentic 'Kudla' gastronomic experience.
Rooftop restaurant. 3rd floor. Falnir road Mangalore. Family restaurant. Bar attached. Food is good. Tastes good. Non vegetarian. Non AC restaurant. Not many seats available. Average hotel. Service is good. Liquor served.
