I was used to eating at Subway in Bharath Mall. But when the renovation work started going on there, Subway shifted base to Kankanady by opening up an outlet right next to Maya International.
I had visited Subway a few weeks back with my mom, aunt and cousin. Once we entered, we could smell the fresh veggies and sauces. Looking at the huge menu, we were wondering what to order. They have so many varieties of subs and salads, that you feel like ordering one of each!
In Salads, they have Veggie Delite, Roasted Chicken, Tuna and Turkey. The range is from Rs. 100 to 200.
You have an option of making a meal by ordering a Sub, Beverage, Chips or Cookie and you just need to add Rs. 50 for the price of a 6" or Footlong Sub.
First of all, there are more choices for Non-Vegetarians, compared to Vegetarians. Unfortunately, on that day, half of the things in the Vegetarian list was not available! Not only because it was a Sunday, but because they hardly get supply of the items.
When it comes to the size of the sub, you can opt for a 6" which is just enough to fill one person's stomach! If you are a light eater, it is better if you share. A Footlong will be double the size and I recommend this if you have come in a huge group.
Once you order a particular sub, you can choose the kind of bread, veggies, sauce and other toppings.
In the Bread List, you can choose from the following:
Hearty Italian
Multi-Grain
Multi-Grain Honey Oat
Italian and
Parmesan Oregano.
This is what all we had ordered:
1. Veggie Patty - Mom ordered for the Veggie Patty Sub. There were two huge patties inside and she decided to stuff the Sub with onions, tomatoes, lettuce, capsicum and sauce.
2. Veg Shammi - I choose to order the Veg Shammi Sub. It had three shammi kababs made of lentils and had the flavour of garlic and onion. Yummy! I added onions, cucumber, black olives, and mustard. The mustard gave an extra kick of spiciness and sweetness to the sub. Vegetarians should try this one. It is very good.
3. Chicken Seekh - My aunt ordered for the Chicken Seekh Sub. It included two pieces of Chicken Seekh and she decided to top it with onions, lettuce, tomato, and spicy sauce. This was the first time she was eating at Subway and she said it was really tasty.
4. Chicken Tandoori - My cousin ordered for a Chicken Tandoori Sub. There were pieces of boneless chicken breasts which were seasoned with tikka. He decided to team this up with onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, spicy sauce, and pickles.
Two of us ordered for Soft Drinks and on that day, there was only one kind available, which was one which we normally don't drink!
This Subway offers delivery and if you plan on having a party, you can order their Sub Platters.
Other than the taste of the Subs and the price, there were a few drawbacks during our visit to Subway.
a. For Vegetarians, there were only two options in the Veg Menu. If one doesn't prefer those, then they would have been stuck eating cookies!
b. The tables are small and enough for just 2 people. If you come in a group, then you have to sit all cramped up, or you have to go to the 1st floor where there is seating from another restaurant available.
c. There is no restroom. If you have to wash your hands, you need to go to the 1st floor. Again, this is a disadvantage, especially if you come with the elderly or even with kids!
Suggestions:
Ensure all the varieties in the Subs, regardless of Vegetarian or Non - Vegetarian are available everyday.
Perhaps a sink could be set up on the ground floor, so that the customers don't have to take the flight of stairs to the 1st.
I hope the next time I come back, I will be able to order something different.
