I must say one should visit this place when in Goa
it is in Mapusa
has a family room too
The Surmai Rava fry was just a 5/5
Just love the SIZE of the PC’s
The Surmai was very fresh too
Totally recommended
Also loved the fresh Prawns rava fried
The size was really good
The prawns were fresh too
The waiter recommended a tangy and sour sauce prawns which was too really nice
Though size was small here but the prawns were fresh
well the Pomfret was indeed really nice in rava fried
The size was good the fish was fresh
The only thing which was Ok was the Fish thali
The curry was Ok as it was cold
We ordered at 3.30 and the kitchen was closing
Over all
The rate is also very nice
Compared to the quality and the size
Prawns - 300
Surmai 4 jumbo PC - 650
Pomfret - 1000
Fish thali - 150
One of the best place in goa to have sea food. This place is always crowded. Specially on Sundays people wait over 1 hr to get the table. This place very famous in Goa. The quantity they give is very good. You will wish to come again once you visit this place.
Food was great. The chonak fish fry was very tasty. The dry fish and small oysters fry were also very great. Worth the visit.

Very tasty food. Service was excellent. The waiter was helpful in telling about the portions so we don't order excess. Crab curry was excellent. Clams was tasty, prawn curry had okra in it which normally you don't get anywhere. Superb food.

Had heard about this place from a friend from Goa. So decided to visit this place. And i would say dont judge the place by its looks. And also you have to find your own table. So be alert and get yourself a table. Once seated you are immediately attended. And i had ordered a local fish called chonak fish. Its a local fish and it was very tasty. Then later i ordered for crab masala and this was the best crab i ever had in my life. I have been to soo many places to have crab but this was at the top of all. Super delicious. And cheap. Its a must visit place for sea food lovers.
I really enjoyed sea food here, the best in Goa I can say. Very pocket friendly compared other so called restaurants in Goa. Staff manners should be changed.
Been here several times ...
1) fish thali ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A pocket friendly restaurant that indeed serves as an attraction to the locals. They serve the best of butterchicken in town and is an attraction to many . Must try
Kamlabai, mapusa is a local gian restaurant which is very crowded. It has an ac and non ac section. The service here is quick, ambience is basic . Fresh and amazing sea food is served here. Portion size is really good. One of the best fried mussels is served here .
Rawa fried prawns (5/5)
Rawa fried mussels (5/5)
Butter garlic squids (4/5)
Naan (4/5)
Fresh lime soda (5/5)
Crab xec xec (5/5)
The most affordable and good place to have sea food in goa though it's not located in the center of goa but has a good variety of dishes to offer, the ambience is not so high but it's good enough and the place serves tasty food at decent prices compared to all the fancy looking places in Goa.
It's worth visiting.
Kamlabai is a quaint seafood outlet. The crabs and prawns are great, their thali is certainly not amongst the best. Their Goan gravies are a little extra sour, basically the place is loved by locals judging by the full tables on weekday noons and evening. For people visiting Goa the food can be a little intimidating, unlike other restaurants which adjust the tastes for tourists. Still you will go again and again to Kamlabai for the crabs and prawns.
Tasty food. Fresh fish. Good fish thali. Must visit. Pocket friendly. Won't be disappointed with the food here. Just needs improvement in service. Very slow service.
The best seafood I’ve ever had. Period.
It’s quite a big place and has a vast menu but we wanted to try the local cuisine.
For starters we ordered
1. Chonak Rawa Fry 4/5
2. Prawns fry 4/5
3. Kingfish rawa fry 5/5
All three were super crisp and the quantity was quite large. The prawns were medium sized and had a great taste. Chonak was super crisp. Kingfish fry was crisp from the outside and perfect soft from the inside.
We then tried Kingfish in Racheado Sauce 5/5. Its very DELICIOUS and highly recommended. It’s a local tangy sweet and sour sauce and tasted amazing.
We ended with Goan Prawns Curry and Rice witch was great as well
Good place, best quality with reasonable price. Didn't visit often but ordered variety of menu from here.It has lot of rush have to wait during peak time, management is bit slow as well.
If you love fish and that too Goan style and you in Goa do visit this place this place is one of good place where you can get sea food and that too tasty ao personally recommend this hotel to do visit this place
The place is pretty basic in ambience, but packs a punch in taste for authentic goan fish thali, the fish provided was so tasty!!! It was worth every bit!!!
Good place for seafood lovers....Try their thali. Also they offer a wide variety of chicken dishes plus reasonable prices.Must try restaurant.
Wow a perfect Goan sunday i must say...the sea food is yummy and mouth watering..
Surely try out for King fish..the size of it is just ove the expectation and is as delicious as it can be..
Thumbs up to the food and the taste of sea food 😍
Best place till now that I have been to, which serves fish. The food here is just outstanding. Be sure to come early otherwise you might miss tye good stuff. I tried King fish thali here and I was really impressed with the quality and quantity of the served food.
Good place to explore some Goan sea food.
Pleasent ambiance, quick service, fresh and hot food served.
To add on this place also serves hard drinks.
Can come with family and friends, they have different sitting areas which includes AC and Non AC.
I had a visit to goa and many told us about the fish thali being served here. The food was of good quality and quantity.
However giving 4 star because of the misbehavior of a staff. Though he forgot to give us fish in fish gravy he denied and never tried to solve our issues.
Last year we visited kamlabai as my friend wants to try some fresh seafood, so we choose to dine with kamlabai.
We want try fish thali but they serve fish thali in lunch time only, in evening time you will not get fish thali, so we order for prawn biryani & chicken Hakka noodles.
Biryani was mind blowing with medium size prawns.
• Overall food was good.👍
• Restaurant is 5-8 min walking distance from mhapusa bus stand.
• Ambience is ok.
• value for money food.
Lovely family restaurant known for its good fish. They have an Account and non AC section to choose from.
The prawn curry here is definitely worth a try because of it's Goan preparation. Fish thali is reasonable and tasty. I loved the rava fry lepos too.
Would definitely go here again.
Food - 4/5
Service - 4/5
Ambience - 3.5/5
Value for money - 4/5
One of iconic places to eat in Mapusa, locally popular as "Pakho" this restaurant Kamlabai serves good fish. Try the different fish preparations and lunch time goan thali (rice plate), other indian or chinese food items are of average quality. Visit for only fish and thali.
We had crab n fish...bith were served quickly and in typical goan style. Taste was satiating n price of dish was value for money..even my friends had veg dish that was ok..

If you are sea food lover, u must visit this place when ur in goa. Kamlabai serves best quality fish crabs and prawns dat too in typical desi style. We have order surmai masala fry... I have never tasted such a wonderful fish masala, its a red masal which is sweet spicy and tangyy.. Then we have ordered rawa fry prawns, prawns size was good taste was also good. Crab masala n rice, the size of crab was big and taste was good. This place id often crowded if u guys r goin for dinner make sure u reach there before 8:30.
This is the best restaurant I have come across while traveling to goa.
Quality of food and mostly goan fish is the best you can have it ..
Again known for continental food.
Recommendation from my friend, N it was absolutely worth it, If ur a Seafood lover it's a must go place, Although had to wait for 30min for a place in the AC section but as as I said the wait was worth, Mahadeo and can't recollect the other Server's name (Starts with A) were very kind, We ordered for Prawns Goan Curry, Surmai as Starter and Steam Rice, Their portions are HUGE, For the 3 of us it was too much, we had to parcel the Curry n Fish.
All in all a very good place, Thanks to Kingsly for his recommendation.
Best sea food joint in Mapusa, Goa. King fish fry, Pomfret fry are must have dishes. Ambience is ordinary but doesn’t matter much.
Service is also quick.
Too crowded place, so plan your visit with keeping spare waiting time.
Good food great taste and a wonderful experience...had just a few days here so cudnt be here again ...but for my next goa visit this is the 1st I’m my to do list
A quiet pleasant place to be in.. It was an accidentally discovery for me n my husband. Loved the fish thali, along with Kingfish fry.. Really a scrumptious meal. The king fish fry plate had 4 pieces which was really too much for both of us. Had to parcel the left over. My husband had two pint and one lemonade for me.. The bill came around 1200... I think it was fair enough... Value for money.. Good food with good quality.
Not too far from Baga Beach, Kamlabai is the best place to have Yummmy Thalis at best price 😍
🔻Thali:
- Special Chonak Thali: Amazing Friend Sea Bass, without bones, served along with Crab, Sol Kadhi, Roti, Rice & dried Fish. TOTALLY WORTH IT 🔥
- Bangda Thali: Another interesting Thali consisting of Tasty Bangda fish. Do try it

Great food .. prawn curry and king fish fry .. awesome taste .. little on spicier side .. but thoroughly enjoyable .. goa heat is a dampener.. they will do well to air condition the place or put some additional fans
Famous and very well known Restro in Mapusa. Would Rate 4.5/5 for its Fish Thali, They serve amazing fish thali, simple and delicious dishes with variety. Not to forget with fresh fish.
But the sad part is when you order for any of their chicken Dishes..! Same receipt is used for All the chicken dishes.! They all look alike and even taste the same!
Was in Goa for December my apologies for late review but this place is worth many review they know how stuff our tummies well
I loved their quantity and quality as well I am surely visiting again for sure
Went here with a really big group for lunch and was fortunate enough to try every single seafood item on the starter menu and the goan fish curry rice with a uniquely tasting solkadi.
The starters were all coated with rava and fried mostly, and the freshest seafood was at our disposal.
Solkadi was unlike here in Mumbai. There wasn't any coconut milk added to it.I prefer the one we get here...there's so much of an umph factor in the flavour.
One of the Authentic Goan restaurant in goa. and it is off tourists, you will see locals enjoying food and booze here.. The Squid golden fry was epic.. though the service was not good but the food was awesome..
Taste : 4.7 / 5
Ambience 4 / 5
Coast 4 / 5
Try crab, chonak, Tiger Prawns, surmai, squid. Everything is just perfect and amazing. Prefer fry items rather than gravy with salad.
@gurmeet_rait having dinner at this place was indeed the best thing we did in goa. Are you a sea food fan? If yes this place is a complete must for you. And if you are not a sea food fan... Trust me, visit this place... And you'll be in love with sea food. The food is extremely extremely extremely tasty. Your taste buds will have a different experience. Theyll surely be thankful to you 😉.
Quantity and price - these both go hand in hand, you get served for what you pay for.... Totally worth the money.
Ambience - as getting back, this is a sea food place... So they have a fish tanks with beautiful variety of fishes... Also they have spacious tables and comfy chairs for all age groups to feel at home.
Food - in the intro ice spoken a lot about sea food, however you get all types of food here... Indian, Chinnese, etc.. However they specialize in Goan food. If you searching for Authentic goan fish curry... Try this place. Thank me later.
The seafood choices are yum and worth the money.. Go for seafood platter when in group of 5 or more. Finding a table during the rush hours is a bit tough wait. But the wait is worth.
It's a great family restaurant. The sezwan chicken was average with no spice but the garlic butter squids were delicious, I'd surely recommend that. Portion was good enough for 2.Prawns biryani was a bit of a dissapointment with extra spice and hardly any prawns. This place is good for rice plate(thali). The service was okay. Being one of the few good restaurants in mapusa, it gets crowded and it's hard to find a table.
Value for money, fresh sea food. Tried just the fried part of king fish, bombay duck, prawns; was totally awesome. Ok ambience and service. Recommended!
Very simple place n value for money. Authentic Goan Food. Good portions. Can be better with the ambience. Worth once a trip atleast. Can go with your friends..
Served Goan food which is really good in taste and good for pocket also. Tried fish thali which is good, surmai rawa fry which also a good option. You can get good food with affordable price.
Not only for sea food, kamlabai is even good option for a vegetarian. It serves fresh sea food and specifically known for it's quality of crabs. Butter Pepper crab & tandoori crab are a must try for crab lovers
This place though has a simple ambience, the food served is amazing. Their crab masala and prawns butter garlic are a must. The surmai fry too was really tasty. A must visit place for only food when ur in Goa
If you're kinda on a budget and looking for good Goan food, this is a good place! The quantity is certainly worth (or maybe much better than) the Rates. The Curry is nice. Ambience is moderately fine. Heard the seafood is good too. The Location is also pretty good, just a walk of 8-10 minutes from The Bus Stand.
Superb tasty Goan home cooked food at reasonable price. Fish is so fresh and preparations simple but yummy. Dry clamps is very tasty. Kokum Tiwal, fried fish is must.
ONE OF THE BEST GOAN FOOD RESTAURANTS EVER! Our experience at Kamlabai was too good. We were seated in the ac section, which was comparatively smaller than the open section. It was too crowded, but we still managed to get a seat. So we had Prawns Koliwada. The prawns were big and generous in quantity. We had surmai thali and man, that surmai was HUGE! The whole lunch experience at kamlabai was amazing and satisfying. The prices are a little high as compared to other places but is worth for the quality that they provide. Definitely visiting kamlabai again and again.
No visit to Goa is complete if you don't visit Kamlabai! The prawns ... the surmai... the Chonak... have tried different preparations of these fish and all super yummy! Love the food, quick service and so easy on the pocket ! What more could one ask for 😊
Well if u wish to have authentic Goan Food then this is the place to be. Though there are two sections one the normal and the other being AC the latter one is pretty decent and u can have ur meal peacefully.
Coming to the main part The food..... Summarising in one word....... Outstanding and here is the proof
Simply put it's all about the food. It's a noisy place, if your late you wait till there's an empty table or else ask someone who's already stuffing their face and sit at their table. Service is pretty straightforward. No pleasantries etc. You order your food, it comes, u Hogg, you pay and you leave. But you leave with a big smile on your face cause the food is absolutely amazing, simple Goan food but the quality and quantity is awesome!! No matter what prawn dish you order you better get ready to devour some large ones and yeah all the fish served is fresh and not frozen. It has to be on the list of must try places in North Goa without a doubt.
Decided to pay a visit after reading reviews from zomato. Ambiance is just ok. Food is good. Fish was fresh and very tasty (that's an important part as far as I'm concerned). Don't expect too much on service front. Overall good experience. There's roadside parking. This place is little away from mapusa market and bus stand.
If you r searching for authentic Goan sea food, this place is treat for ur taste buds. We were five friends ordered Prawns curry n fried Chonak fish. Prawns curry was mouth watering, full 5 stars fr it. Rest all, was also good. Ambience was okay.
I rated 3 stars for the ambience since the place does not have proper seating arrangement and customers have to get themselves a seat which is not welcoming. We ordered the special fish thali, paneer biryani and some juices - orange and watermelon,The fish was really juicy and yum, there were other assortments like prawns and shells
After wanting to go here since many years we finally made it , the seafood is the best thing here , we tried the butter garlic prawns and masala calamari , they also have chicken options in which we had the crispy chicken which was also amazing. The food did not disappoint.
The food was excellent 👏👏 We had ordered King Fish/Iswan/Surmai thali and Chonak. Fish was fresh and delicious. The preparation was up to the mark. Need improvement in service and crowd management. Highly recommended for Authentic goan fish preparations.
Had an amazing dining experience at this restaurant! The menu offers a variety of delicious dishes at reasonable prices, making it a fantastic value for money. The flavors were exceptional, and each dish exceeded expectations. Definitely a go-to place for those seeking both great taste and value for their money. Highly recommend!
Tasty fish thali. Value for money. Big size surmai. Enjoyed the food . Only downside was they give only 1 chapati in thali. Atleast 2 chappatis should be given.
One of the most loved restaurants in Mapusa, Kamlabai is located near the town’s market and bus stand. The service tends to be on the slower side but the food more than makes up for it.
Seafood reigns supreme here so make sure you have plenty of it. You can’t go wrong with the fish thali or the Goan fish curry paired with steamed rice.
Add slices of the King Fish Fry or Pomfret Fry to your order and you are sorted.
Food - 4/5
Ambiance - 2.5/5
Service and food suggestions - 4/5
Overall, a good place for seafood lovers to indulge in.
I travel and write. Be a part of my journey @shikhaanair on Instagram
I recently had the pleasure of dining at your establishment and wanted to share my thoughts on my experience. The food served was incredibly tasty and delightful, truly commendable in flavor and quality.
However, I regret to mention that my experience was overshadowed by the demeanor of the staff. Unfortunately, I found them to be somewhat arrogant, which impacted the overall enjoyment of my visit. Furthermore, I felt there was a lack of management presence or assistance during my time at the restaurant.
The restaurant offers food with good taste. However the atmosphere may not be liked by everyone. Service is good
Quantity and quality of food is just amazing. Must visit for enjoying authentic sea food when in Goa.
It was a bit difficult to find the location. Once you enter the restaurant you will see that the sitting arrangement is very basic as it is an old place . But let not the ambience influence you.The place is clean. The sea food here is lip smackinly delicious. Fresh fish, not too spicy and amazing flavours. The prices are reasonable. At other fancy restaurants you will pay double the price for the same dishes. Overall a great place for good seafood. Definitely visit the place if you want to indulge in eating and do not want a place with fancy vibes.
The food is very very nice.
Eat special fish thali whenever you go to Kamlabai restaurant.
The atmosphere is also very good and spacious. There is ac and non ac both the seating area.
Speciality in sea food items.
Recommended 👍
We ordered the Fish Thali ( Chonak Fish) It was very good. Probably the most that I've paid for a Fish Thali in Goa. 350 Rupees. Fried Lady fish was also ordered. That was good too.
This place has a wide variety of seafood and it's really worth going there if you're a seafood lover, the prices here are fair and they provide a lot of quantity of food and that's what makes this restaurant standout. Even the quality is really good, and it's a very popular place in the area, if you go late, you might have to wait as there are usually a lot of people that eat here. Chonak fry is a dish that you should definitely try. Overall the atmosphere could be better as they could install ACs in their restaurant since a lot of people come here, otherwise it's top notch!
