Today's 16 Course Meal was a magnificent lunch marathon at country's finest fine dine elite restaurant. Jiggs Kalra who introduced Indian Cuisine 2.0 with molecular gastronomy 5 years ago in Mumbai & Delhi. I remember this Restaurant had a waiting of average 1 month initially. Now on this day as well you cannot just walk in. A table booking is recommended!
Coming to food, no doubt this is a gem of Indian Cuisine. The Czar of culinary Jiggs Kalra has introduced some really delectable food items with out of world presentation.
With great food and drink they are known for best service. You will be treated like a king.

Overall an awesome restaurant and it’s worth every penny!

If you are a foodie and you haven't been to this place then you haven't had the best food in Mumbai. All that you have heard about this is all true. You have got to try this place once in life. It may seem overpriced but it is worth every penny. We had ordered the 5-course meal where everything from appetizer to palette cleanser to the main course to desserts. Before every dish, they explain the contents and their uniqueness which is in itself mesmerizing. International standards are maintained here with respect to food, cuisine, ambiance, hospitality, and the overall experience.
Let me start by saying this is by far the most classy and sophisticated place. Totally worth visiting and worth the price. The food is delicious and fresh. I loved how they represented every dish. Absolutely stunning!
The staff is courteous and attentive.
They’ve a unique concept of serving you with a tiny portion of appetiser before every dish you order, to enhance your taste buds.
Lovely ambience and would love to visit again.
This place has good ambiance and the service is good too. I tried many things but found the innovative dal khichdi pakoda interesting
Its an experience to remember. The food here is a wonderful research done by chefs. Molecular gastronomy is something new introduced by them. We tried their 14 course meal, that's a widely researched curated menu I must say. Detailed review in sometime.
Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten - This is the best way to describe this place.
High on quality and service, this place never fails to surprise me.
This restaurant is on my list of Mumbai's best restaurant.
The ambience is classy with soft music playing in the background.
The attendants were well versed with the menu and guided us with what would be best to try.
We selected a Nine course tasting menu which went as follows :
Ambuse Bouche was served in egg cutlery with mango pulp acting as yolk and coconut water as albumin, served in a nest
Soup :
Wild mushroom soup was mind blowing. The chai was made upof mushroom broth, sugar was replaced by truffle oil crumbs and dehydrated mushrooms acted as tea leaves.
Snack :
Pea pearl puchka was made with pea puree using the technique of spherification with calcium water and served live on table
Dahi bada's vada was very spongy and the Dahi was infused with air so the entire dish was very light unlike the normal dahi wada
Jhaal muri cookie chaat was good and presented in a stylish way. The chutneys were really nice
Starter :
Goat cheese baji was super super yum well complimented with broth
Shepu Dabeli was presented beautifully and had all the elements like crunchy, sweet and spicy flavor
Roasted cashew nut paneer was the best starter ever. The Paneer was really soft and the date chutney was super smooth.
Sorbet :
Chonkha baigan was really smoky and the foam too had a taste of smoke. Very earthy dish.
Malai paneer was the best subzi ever. Very creamy, yet not bland. I would go back for this any day, anytime
Dessert:
Malai chop was very light and mildly sweet with wood sorrel leaves with a sour note which balanced the sweetness
Mango halwa was sophisticated with flavor and almond praline was not too sweet and added a crunchy texture.
Jalebi caviar has to be their signature dessert as the jalebi caviar had the perfect amount of sweetness and the rabri was rich and thick. The foam was made from saffron milk which was mind blowing.
Special thanks to Mr. Alex, The manager Mr. Kartik and Chef Bhushan for serving us so well.
This dining experience will be etched in my memory forever.
The experience at Masala Library was amazing! A big thanks to the entire team
Food – 5/5

Detailed Review -
Tried the non veg Set menu during my visit with a friend for lunch last Saturday 👍🏼
The entire set up is stylish and contemporary. The wine bottles arranged at the entrance on both sides - eye catchy!
The seating arrangement is spacious and the area is well lit. Lovely cutlery and table clothes adorn the tables. The couches are very comfortable for seating.
After being lead to our table we were introduced to the concept of the place and given the Set menu’s by our server who also asked about our food allergies.
We started off with amusebouch- coconut water in a egg shaped shot glass with mango sphere in the centre... looks like a broken egg, was quite refreshing
Snacks -
Pea pearl puchka- from Kanpur - given my love for Puchka is pani Puri - I just lived this one 😘
Jhaal moorie cookie, ghoogni chaat - Kolkata- another fabulous rendition of the famous street food of Bengal ❤️
Dahi Bada - Odisha- huge fan of the dahi bada I eat at Cuttack n Bhubaneswar 😍 this was a delicious version of the same 👏🏽
Farmers staple 4.0 - Mangalore, Karnataka- another brilliant dish!
Must say that the snacks itself were so wonderful , it left me so excited for the next courses!
In soup we had the Mushroom chai (from Mumbai) and it’s flavours are lovely - must have for mushroom lovers 👍🏼
Starters
Braised lamb chops from Mumbai– this was a lamb chop glazed with a mixture of the tangy kokam juice and sweet maple syrup garnished with micro popcorns. The Micro popcorns were a revelation – something unique for my eyes. Tasted much like normal popcorn. The lamb chop was well cooked but I did not like the sauce – it was on the sweeter side
Chilli and ginger salmon roast from Punjab ❤️ wow! Fish was just beautifully cooked 😍
Caviar malai Prawns - from Lucknow was just melt in the mouth soft and perfectly seasoned, with just a hint of sweetness...
Patthar Ka Murg from Hyderabad - raw chicken was cooked on the hot stone right at the table... lovely flavours 🔥
Mains-
Rajasthani mutton curry and shell Kachori- this was hands down the best dish of the lunch ❤️ the mutton was soft, well cooked, curry was slightly spicy and so flavourful 🔥 the shell kachori just brought the entire dish together 👍🏼
Fish fry, fish meal from Kochi Kerala - Rawas fish coated in Rawa and deep fried, served on tomato rice wrapped in a banana leaf - cooked by steaming 👍🏼 loved the fish and rice combo
Palette cleanser – a Sorbet - frozen mishti doi lollipop- with rasberry jam served on sticks. They looked adorable and tasted out of the world. It was like eating your favourite dessert in the form of ice cream- another favourite dessert. The Mishti doi was yummy and not too sweet just the way I love it. It’s frozen and served like lollipops with a blob of raspberry jam. Wish they served palette cleansers after every dish :P I would go to Masala Library again just for this invention! Wow!
Desserts -
Jalebi caviar – a sight to behold! jalebi was in the form of caviar and it is served along with rabri topped up with saffron foam. Dont have much of a sweet tooth, my friend loved it.it is served in a beautiful shell :-)
Malai chop wood sorrel and mango halwa, almond chikki - were good too 👍🏼
Levitating chocolate truffles - taste wise amazing and an amazing sight ❤️ do check this dish out 👍🏼
Paan flavoured cotton candy – All good things must come to an end! But at Masala Library it ends with a bang! Pan flavoured cotton candy, it was a delight to not just look at but also have :-) I couldn’t have imagined a better end to the meal!
In drinks we tried 2 cocktails and 2 mocktails...
My favourites -
Indigo - cocktail was just out of the world! Made with rum it looks beautiful garnished with dehydrated rose petals ❤️
Passion fruit chilli martini- mocktail- sweet & spicy 👍🏼
Final verdict -
A must visit place for anyone who wishes to experience fine dining. The prices are worth the experience ❤️ Go and try the nouvelle concepts and imaginative cooking at its best! It would be money well spent.
P.S. reserve your table well in advance to avoid disappointment.
There are very few restaurants which one can recall at the top of their mind when one says a special place to celebrate success or special moments. And one such is most definitely Masala Library by Jiggs Kalra. This restaurant was definitely on my bucket list and I am glad could tick this off. Located at ground level of First International Financial Centre at BKC this amazing fine dine place proudly displays the multiple awards it has won across categories and over all these years.
Table reservations is recommended even on weekdays so as to avoid any kind of inconvenience. They have 2 dining slots, I had reserved a table for 10pm slot. I chose for the Chef's Tasting Vegetarian Menu rather than ordering a-la-carte, so that I could try more items. Was very intrigued from all the stories that I heard about Molecular Gastronomy and wanted a first hand experience of same.
So starting of the five course meal besides beverages -
We began with Amuse Bouche to cleanse our palate. An interesting way of presentation of a bird's nest and inside of an egg shaped container there was a mix of coconut and mango. We first started from the Snack section - Jhal Moorie Cookie Ghugni Chaat, Dahi Bada, Activated Charcoal Onion Fritters and Farmer's Staple. Had always Jhal Moorie in a bhel (mix) form but serving in a cookie form with chutneys, peas sauce, mustard sauce and pickled onion on top was superb. Again fabulous innovation on Dahi Bada, where instead of deep fried Bada, it was Bada sponge, along with chutneys and dahi foam. Super yum when mixed. Remaining snacks were also good, they didn't have the Pea Pearl Puchka, hence was given Fritters as replacement. Farmer's Staple is made of ripe banana.
Moving to the next course, we had the Soup - which was Mushroom Chai. Truffle Oil Crumbs created by Molecular Gastronomy mixed along with sugar powder, black tea leaves and then Mushroom inform of black tea is poured on top to give you a Chai effect. The hot tea converts the truffle oil crumbs back to liquid form of truffle oil. Divine flavour of mushroom and truffle oil. We also asked for some mocktails - Paan Mojito and Masala Library Punch. Drinks were fine.
Coming to the next course the Starters, we were served Bihari Daal Peetha with Raw Mango flavour which gives it that tangy flavour. This was for the first time I tried this delicacy from Bihar and I liked what I had. Next we had the Roasted Cashew Nut Paneer with Dates Chutney on the side, loved the cottage cheese, roasted to perfection and really soft, just melted. Post this a dish from Gujarat - Shepu Dabeli topped and garnished with Pine Nut Bhel, I personally love street side Dabeli and loved this version as well. A must try I must say.
Now it was time for our Mains the Sorbet, we had couple of vegetables along with Tandoori Roti and Daal Makhani. Malai Paneer and Baigan Bharta. Both the veggies full of flavour and super delicious. I always felt the the portion size in Chef's Tasting Menu would be small, but with so many options, by the time we finished our mains, we were super stuffed. However it was time for desserts now! And I was really looking forward to try their signature dessert which has got so much recognition - the Jalebi Caviar. Jalebi in form of caviar itself was fascinating to see, and it came along with pistachio flavoured condensed milk. Simply amazing.
Well, if this wasn't amazing enough we were served Paan flavoured Candy Floss. Just brings back the good old days' memories and I personally just love Paan. As I would have already said a multiple times in my review, Masala Library is just simply superb and chef's menu is actually a delight where you can taste so many things at single point in time. A must visit for fine dine lovers, a must for a memorable experience.
Best food and worth the price
They pay so much attention to every detail on the plate
The lamb chops were delicious
The butter chicken was mind blowing, it was full of sweet and spicy gravy which was just too good.
The jalebi caviar was the best dessert I’ve had till date. It has everything that you’ll ever need in a dessert. Just fantastic! ❤️
No facility for specially abled. I myself have a walking disability and saw several senior citizens too liking the place. However the seating was low and there was no facility of high chair, thick pillow (only 2 in the restaurant) or chairs with handles so that one can be independent. I would have liked to be extended that as I really was in pain if I had to get up or be more mobile around my family. The toilet was also not specially abled. All it needs is side bars next to the toilet seat. Please please have that as many like me and senior citizens would find it even a more joyous experience.
Quick Bites - South Indian. ... South Indian, North Indian, Chinese, Fast Food, Beverages. ... Located near Minto park, Dosa coffee is an easily accessible south indian cafe serving authentic south indian delicacies.
A famous fine dine restaurant by Zorawar Kalra. Mr Kalra has given Indian cuisine an interesting twist with the molecular gastronomy concept & made sure that people have a great dining experience.
A perfect place to celebrate your romantic occasions.
Indian food served ins a different style is what you can expect. The ambiance are classy. Everything you order here will sound familiar to you but when it’ll come on the table, it’ll definitely leave you in a surprise.
One should definitely try their set menu Lunch to get the overall experience of the place.
Masala Library serves both North Indian & South Indian, it’s a fusion treat with the molecular gastronomy concept.
The set menu meals starts of with a Papdi Chaat with a beautiful presentation & ends with their famous desserts the Jalebi Caviar.
The ambiance is decent & the staffs are friendly. The places plays mild music which makes the overall vibe a lot better.
Price wise it’s a bit expensive place, but one should definitely give a try to experience the luxury dining & unique food conception.
Masala Library has always been one of our favourite restaurants. This place has it’s own charm & specialised in it’s modern street food & molecular gastronomy concept.
The uniqueness of this place has got the restaurant as one of the ‘must visit’ restaurants when you are in Mumbai.
Tried the set menu for Lunch. It’s priced at ₹2500* but definitely a treat to experience.
From the soups to the starters to the main courses and deserts & the overall presentation & experience. Everything is definitely worth the money.
Don’t miss out on the Jalebi Caviar & Mango halwa with chikkis in the desserts.
Overall this place is perfect if you wanna treat someone special & give them an extraordinary food & dining experience.
One of the best culinary experiences in Mumbai. We tried the Chefs Tasting Menu which costs Rs 2500 per person (Veg).
Every course was unique with a very well articulated mix and match of ingredients. Rarely does one finds a place which has such interesting vegetarian experiences.
The entire experience of Masala Library by Jiggs Karla was mesmerising.
The interiors is chic creating a mordern Indian ambience , coming to the hospitality it was just perfect and staff attended us positively.
The chef menu is just perfect for the a person like me who get to taste all the flavour on one table with the right proportion. Quantity right , flavors right and ambience right.
The meal starts with Snacks and ends with an elaborated Dessert!!
Every dish is cooked to perfection and presented in an amazing way!
So let me take you through the menu, starting with palate cleanser -
•Amuse Bouche: An egg yolk floating in a nest, fake eggs containing mango & coconut water.
*Snacks*
•Pea Pearl Puchka: It was made on our tables and clearly explained by the server. It was like a pani puri with green peas, onion, chutneys
•Dahi Bada: Crumbled spongy baked vada, with yoghurt and sweet chutney.
•Jhal Moorie Cookie & Farmers Staple
Soup:
•Mushroom Chai: The signature soup of the place and the best one I have tried ever.

•Limbiyo Avnas Sasam: Goat’s cheese goli baje that melts in mouth
•Bihari Dal Peetha: Steamed dumplings with refreshing raw mango chutney
•Roasted Cashew Nut Paneer: Modern style of Paneer tikka wrapped with crushed roasted cashew nuts gravy.

For Desserts:
•Malai Chop, wood sorrel: Mango halwa between almonds chikki and malai cream
•Jalebi Caviar: It includes rich thick rabri with saffron foam. It was one of the best dessert of all
•Levitating Dessert: Belgian Dark Chocolate balls were mesmerising.
We loved the food & the whole experience was totally worth it.
Needless to say, Masala Library does its best in making sure that the customer is well received.
Finally I visited Masala Library a place which I was planning to visit since a few months. Located near International First financial building in BKC it's a regular look out for corporate folks. Known for it's specially curated menu and heritage of Mr. Jiggs Kalra. A gastronomic journey to the world of indian cuisine is what I define Masala Library with.
Starting from ambience to the plate arrangements everything was dapper and to the point. We tried the chefs special tasting menu which is an extensive 5 course meal pricing at 2700 for non-veg and 2500 for veg. Here are some finest dishes which we loved.
Snack
▪️Pea Pearl Puchka: This was the tastiest Puchka I have had in long time. Pea puree was dropped into calcium water & pea pearls formed, were then added to our Puchka
▪️Dahi Bada: It was a deconstructed & baked vada served with yogurt foam & presented in a beautiful way.
▪️ Jhaal Moori Cookie: Jhaal moori originating from kolkata baked as a cookie and topped with amazing sauces and popular mustard sauce.
Soup
▪️Mushroom Chai: Most amazing & innovative mushroom dish, where mushroom broth represented black tea. Dehydrated black button mushrooms & truffle powder were added to mimic tea preparation. So fancy!
Starter
▪️Braised Lamb Chops: The Lamb chop was marinated with maple syrup & kokum. It was finger licking good.
▪️Patthar Ka Murg: In love with this table side appetizer. The Chef cooked thin chicken breast on coal right in front of us. It was amazing.
▪️ Caviar Malai Prawns: Being a Bengali I have tried malai curry prawns. But, Malai prawns with a touch a modern caviar was a killer combination.
Main Course
▪️Rajasthani Mutton Curry & Shell Kachori: The mutton was really soft & well marinated. The Kachori was different, colorful & complimented the curry really well.
▪️Chicken Tempered Iddiyappam: Iddiyappam were so soft & I loved how well the dish tasted together. The chicken curry was full of flavors.
Dessert
▪️Mango Halwa: The mango Halwa was delicious and the crackers added a crunch to it. The nuts & cream complimented the dish well.😍
▪️Jalebi Caviar: Jalebi shaped in form of Caviar served with rabdi & saffron water. It was delicious.
▪️Levitating Chocolate: OMG! What presentation! This dish combined physics & molecular gastronomy in the best possible way. I loved the experience. I loved the chocolates. Must try. 😍😍
Not to forget, the sorbet & the explanation of each dish by the chef & the servers added to the experience.
Masala Library by Jiggs Kalra is not a restaurant but a gastronomic fine dine experience. They combine traditional Indian cuisine and molecular techniques to serve up regular dishes in an unpredictable form. You can choose from the a la carte menu or go for the chef’s tasting menu.
As you enter Masala Library, the first word that comes to your mind is ‘grandeur’. The high ceiling and plush interiors give it a sense of space and royalty. The mellow background music and service by super courteous staff was impeccable. Everyone was extremely well versed with the dishes. Shout-out to Chef Hemant who presented us the snacks and desserts, our servers Mr. Akshay Naik and Mr.Somen who attended to us very positively and made our meal the best meal ever had.
We opted for the Chef’s Tasting Menu which is priced at Rs.2500 plus taxes for the Vegetarian version. One can add 6 glasses from the wonderfully paired wine menu to this for an additional Rs.1750 plus taxes.
Amuse Bouche or what we call as the palate cleanser ~ The first dish that arrived on our table was a perfect visualization of bird’s eggs. Within the nest, you will find a mango pulp sphere representing an egg yolk floating on tender coconut water depicting the egg white. You drink it like a shot and that refreshing sphere bursts in the mouth releasing a delicious juice blend of mango with coconut.
Cocktails ~ Indigo, a concoction of white rum, blue curacao and litchi syrup, was mildly sweet yet truly delightful. Masala Sour, a classic whiskey sour enhanced with the allspice syrup was perfectly balanced and just hit the right note.
Snack ~ The chef explained that the whole menu was a gastronomic journey across India. Classic dishes from different regions had been given a molecular twist. The first snack was pea pearl puchka which was recreated taking inspiration from our popular street food ‘pani-puri’ also known as golgappa, puchka or gupchup and matar ki kachori. Puri was filled with onions, sev-boondi crispies, sweet chutney, and mint chutney. In a calcium water bath, pea puree was dropped to make pea pearls which were a replacement to the pani puri water.
The Jhal Moori Cookie, Ghughni chaat was reinventing a street food classic ‘bhel’ as a puffed-rice cookie topped with sweet chutney, mint chutney, kasundi mustard sauce, ghugni (white pea mash) and pickled onions.
Next was Dahi Bada served in the form of crumbled spongy baked vada, crispies, sweet chutney and yogurt in the form of a foam. It was very light and airy. All the snacks revolved around intricate presentation and precision of flavors to showcase exciting dishes. Our last snack was ‘farmers table’ which was Mangalorean buns. The mildly sweet buns when paired with that rich coconut butter, tasted absolutely divine and gave a homely feel.
Soup ~ The mushroom chai was the highlight of my meal. It is made in front of you with dehydrated button mushroom as a substitute to tea leaves, sugar was replaced with truffle oil powder and the chai (soup) was mushroom consomme. A symphony of flavors that boasts such depth, this earthy mushroom chai was just mind-blowing!
Starters ~ Limbiyo avnas sasam, which was a sweet and sour broth with goat’s cheese goli baje that was melt in the mouth. This dish was garnished with freshly shredded coconut and spiced pineapple chunks. A taste explosion in every spoon!
Shepu Dabeli, Pine nut bhel was a modern touch to the regular Kutchi Dabeli. Mini bread rolls with potato stuffing topped with a garnish of methi crisp (khakhra) was served along with crunchy pine-nut bhel.
Bihari Daal, Peetha and mango & coriander jhol was a whole wheat flour steamed dumpling stuffed with lentils accompanied with refreshing raw mango chutney.
And lastly roasted cashew nut paneer with dates chutney. Not your typical tandoori paneer tikka. This one was thin layers of paneer wrapped around coarsely crushed roasted cashew nuts and then cooked till perfection. The date chutney swirled around the bowl just added the right amount of sweetness.
Sorbet ~ as a palate cleanser which came in dressed as a mishti doi popsicle. It made me feel like a child and while relishing that I was just thinking about what lies next.
Main course ~ Patodi modak in rassa bhaji and modernist malai paneer with seasonal vegetables. This was accompanied with flaky paratha and curry of the day (dal makhani). The steamed gram flour modaks were filled with a roasted peanut stuffing and steamed with cardamom fumes. The rassa bhaji curry was made using poppy seeds, peanuts, onion, and garlic. The modernist malai paneer was garnished with a sheet of cream and consisted of a myriad of vegetables. Dal makhani was the creamiest I ever had. Everything was spot on and resonated sensational flavors with every bite.
Dessert ~ Mango halwa layered between almond chikki and Malai Chop, Wood Sorrel and crunchy nuts. The Jalebi caviar was served in a shell bringing in the sea element, included deep-fried tiny orange beads (Jalebi) therefore, being the caviar and doused with pistachio rabri, saffron foam. It was not too sweet and very well balanced.
Lastly, the Quantum Levitation law used to serve the gooey Belgian chocolate ball was mesmerizing. I can say science at its best used to create drama around the levitating chocolate balls.
The art and chemistry that has gone into making these dishes are on another level of sophistication. It will revive all your senses and create an impression that will last for a lifetime. Well, I’m sure you are tempted much by now. Reserve your table right away to be a part of this gastronomic experience!

The vibes are superiorly classy over here! The seatings are comfortable, staff courteous and extremely attentive. The food was presented impressively and loved the unique way of preparation of the same. Loved their exclusive range of live prepared chat by the chef. Also the lamb seekh and almond was delicious too. Even the main course following the same was upto the mark and the dessert platter had all that you can ask for. Lovely place, would recommend it to all and DJ t worry the price, it’s worth every penny.

Most of us have fond memories of food from our childhood.Whether it is mom’s homemade chocolate or soup recipe , food has a way of transporting us back to the past. Taking a notch further Jiggs Karla says we serve memories , not just food. As rightly said by Jiggs Kalra, Masala Library wants to deliver food that customers have never ever tried before. Their main focus is to capture century old traditions and long lost essence of recipes. Every state of India is represented in this amazing à la carte. Here both vegetarian, as well as non-vegetarian, can celebrate as Chef has a wide spread of delicacies on the menu.
Masala Library – Finally happened. This place has been on my most desirable wish list since months as I wanted to experience the chef curated menu which my friends raved about. So this “Chef Tasting Menu” Veg/Non-Veg starts at 2500++/2700++ without alcohol. In my opinion is worth every single penny that you spend because of their immaculate service, amazing gastronomical experience which not only captivates your eye due to its presentation but satisfies your soul to deepest level due to the love it brings in form of taste.
The gastronomic journey starts with Amuse Bouche (bite sized starter served before any meal) a fake egg made of mango yolk and coconut water.
Of course, the menu consists of 4 Snacks, 1 Soup, 4 Starters, 1 Sorbets, 1 Main meal and ends with 2 Desserts.
Some of the notable snacks were Pea Pearl Puchka, Dahi Bada and Jhal Moorie Cookie, then the Pepper soup was well balanced yet enticing, we tried malai chicken tikka, chicken tikka (red), and prawns as starters, well balanced on flavors and beautiful on presentation. In mains I preferred the standard Butter chicken and bouy from the presentation to taste, it was nothing but perfection. Desserts were star of their own, the Jalebi Caviar is one such beauty everyone needs to have.
I can’t be thankful enough of this experience which I had and it’s no doubt a place to re-visit for not just special occasions but in general too. I rate the place with all the love a 5.
Finally get to visit this place after like so long !!
It’s a weekday vibe but still super packed , this place u actually can’t visit without reservation ! My suggestion if you plan to go do do have pre-booking.
So I visited this place on a weekday with my family and the seating was really classy and comfortable.
Crowed was really sophisticated and niche ;)
This place has given a completely different vibe here :)
My experience with staff was really really fantastic ! Hospitality was top notch and the way they explained every dish at my table was remarkable.
The staff has been well trained and well knowledgeable about their cuisine.
The chef curated tasting menu on ur table, one of the finest restaurant in Mumbai giving u feel of all the unique and popular dishes all across the country on ur very table :D in his most unique form.
I had a great experience of molecular gastronomy, it was indeed my 1st time to try this here ;)
I loved it !!
Chef personally came to our table and briefed us about the menu also I had few suggestions on my taste buds and JaiN preparation, they took utmost care on that too.
We had an entire JaiN preparation on our table !
It’s a course wise meals served on ur table with small portions.
Starting from welcome drink to snack , Soup, starters, mains and finally the dessert.
The meal included variety of popular category from all across the nation at your very table.
We started with snacks being Puchka which was made at our table and served and also well explained.
Dahi wada was also amazing served as a sponge cake with mix of chutneys.
In all there were 3-4 types of snacks served followed by Bell pepper soup and started with starters.
Everything was super good.
The positive point about chef table is, everything u get to try and enjoy the entire 7 course meals specially by not over filling ur tummy only with starters.
I barely would have any complaints to this outlet as the name itself is a brand to visit , more than the brand it’s a wonderful experience which you just can’t miss.
Ambience:- 5/5
Service :- 4.5/5
Food:- 5/5
Over all :- 5/5
The first time experience of Molecular Gastronomy ! On the chef curated menu , giving u an diligence experience of really yummy cuisines curated all across the country.
I believe this place as a must go place , having said that I’ was really acknowledged well by the courteous staff present there.
We opted for chef menu table where each and every item was bought in small portions to our table giving us a vibrant experience of all the flavours.
Started with welcome drink of Mango and Coconut water giving us a soothing welcome to our meal.
Starting with snacks we were delighted to have puchka famously known as Pani Puri and Dahi Bada ! These were amazing.
You would be served with 4 snacks in all
Small portion and then coming to Soup we had the Bell pepper soup which was really good.
Starters were all mix of famous Gujrat , Karnataka and Delhi.
We were served with 3 starters and then came to mains , again served with 3 Sabji and breads were pacha paratha.
Mixed vegetables, Paneer Makhanwala and Dal Makhani was the best from the lot.
After each course were given a homely treatment of wet tissue on our table and also some really good bites in between to keep our taste bud active.
Ended our meal with amazing Desserts !
The Jalebi Cavear was the best ! And in the end we were given Belgium chocolate as a complimentary one !
Loved loved loved the experience!!
Guys do visit this place !
It is indeed a good one for the right ambience to get you attracted with ur friends and family.
Highly recommended!!
Very unique experience. Food is good and there is a lot of variety. Very courteous staff and service is prompt. The food presentation is unique a chef will present the food to you and explain the preparation. Definitely a gastronomical delight!
First visit to the place. It’s based on the concept of molecular gastronomy. You get small sized portions of food that are enough to fill you up. And it’s not just the taste but the aroma and look as well. We took the corporate set menu. The set menu changes every six months. The current menu has crispy Palak chaat (4/5), pamento soup(4.5/5) and it comes in a small cup, chicken tikka (4/5), mutton seekh (4/5), butter chicken though a signature dish was disappointing (3/5) and the show stopper was mutton seekh with saag(5/5), perfectly balanced and went well with the paranthas. Every component of the food was well balanced. The presentation is outstanding! Staff knows the menu well and explains every dish that is served. Last came the dessert, rasmalai (3.5/5).
The place was full of surprises because the food was delicious and fairly priced.
Nest time I am going to try the elaborate menu.
Thank you for the wonderful service and hospitality. We had a good time today.
Masala Library is a restaurant that I've heard of a thousand times and I was lucky enough to find a table in a packed restaurant on a Tuesday night. I had informed the staff that I was coming but wasn't able to get a table booked for 8:30 since they take in reservations only at 7 and 10.
Coming to my experience, I went with the chef's vegetarian tasting menu. My whole meal lasted for just a little over 2 hours and I was completely full by the end of it. They do have a couple of options in the starters and mains to choose from within the tasting menu, and since we were ample people, we ordered one portion of every dish.
The snack section wasn't extraordinary.
There was paani puri which I really liked.
Dahi Wada which was in a form of a sponge cake, really interesting.
A bhel version of chaat which was decent and something called farmer's staple which was a kachori stuffed with banana and served with coconut butter. Average.
It was followed by a mushroom soup in a form of tea which tasted nice.
For the starters we were served four items. I liked all of them, especially the paneer.
The mains were extremely delicious. They were served beautifully as well and had a great taste.
For the desserts, I was completely in love with the jalebi caviar. You could taste every caviar individually and that had a great texture. The other two desserts were also very good.
A palate cleaner was served after every course which was fabulous. A levitating chocolate was served at the end of the meal which tasted like a normal truffle. Every dish was also presented with perfection, definitely Instagram worthy.
Complaints - Way too many mosquitoes. I guess this isn't their problem since I've noticed them in a couple of other restaurants in that junction. It's a general problem with BKC, but it's their duty to do something with it. Secondly, the service between the courses is slow, but all the items of a particular course come rapidly. My second portion of breads took over 6-8 minutes which caused the curries to go cold. Other than this, the servers are extremely friendly and hospitable. Every single dish was explained to me perfectly and most of the questions I asked were solved by my server Ashish without asking the chef. Great thing that the servers are well versed with the dishes.
For the price, the place is definitely worth a try, but having dined at over a hundred restaurants of similar quality, I wouldn't say it's the finest.
We were there for lunch yesterday. food is innovative and good. Everything was basically Induan in taste flavour but with interesting twists. The pre appetizer and palette cleansers are an addition which normally you do not get in Indian Restaurants.
The rating I have given is 4 due to the very poor approach to the restrooms which you do not expect in a fine dining and expensive restaurant.please do something about this. The gents toilet was also stinking
Having dad over here in Mumbai after many months, I decided to call him over for dinner close to BKC, the restaurant is pretty easy to access - right in front of the entrance you will be able to see the doors.
Since I arrived early I didn't mind the wait time to get the menu at first. But as and when the evening started moving, it became frightfully evident that they were really slow on service. They had enough people around but they were just a tad bit too slow.
Coming to our orders we had fresh lime soda and a gingerbread mojito for drinks. They gave us an interesting appetiser-mango pulp in coconut water along with bun maska-this was a delightful experience for our tastebuds! We had the thakkali thoku chicken along with tempered iddiappam for main course and I had a rasmalai cake for dessert. The dessert I must say was both a visual or a well as a gastronomic experience worth having!
Masala library situated at BKC is place worth visiting due to the uniqueness it offers. We took the chef tasting menu which is like a 13 course meal. They also have an ala carte option available. Tasting menu can be combined with some fantastic selection of wines for an additional price. I loved their mocktails specially burnt curry leaf mojito. Service is fantastic. Prior booking is recommended.
Been here multiple times now. Masala library never disappoints. Tried lamb shanks, pork ribs and mussel and prawn Curry. All brilliantly cooked to perfection. We also tried the patthar ka chicken where they cook it near your table. Vishwesh was at our table and as usual he is great. 5 starts all the way
Excellent concept eating including some live preparations on the table. Very classy place and the staff well trained. Innovative design of the cuisine. Pricing upmarket but its worth the feel and the end to end experience. They describe the items well and seek validation right from drink to dessert. One of my best all time. Experience it
Excellent service by Mr Ashish, supported by Mr Mahesh. Lovely food with great ambiance.
masala Library,
The place is located at Bkc, Mumbai, it gives it the potential to be crowded. The ambiance is quirky and decent. Best place to dine with love. It would be the best place for a family. Food was good and the drinks were great too. We tried the butter chicken which was delicious. It is definitely value for money considering everything.
This very sepical restaurant each dish has been presented with twist presentation in unique way right from starter to desert each dish is unique experience.
Wonderful place to dine and spend time. Amazing food, special service and overall a great experience.
I went first time on my spouse's birthday 4 years back. After that, I have hosted several team lunches. I had personally visited the place many times over the last 4 years. Great place, great ambience, excellent food, superb service - everything perfect.
Must visit if you are working in BKC or planning to have dinner at BKC.
I had heard a lot about this place from friends and we weren't disappointed at all. Their food is fantastic and they live up to their hype. Their food is a gastronomic delight. Each preparation is special, well thought out and has a taste that's out of this world. My partner and I were treated very well by their staff and we loved the ambience too. I recommend Masala Library to anyone who's looking for excellent food for their money's worth.
I came here for birthday dinner and my decision couldn't have been better. I love the way they had presented the food, staff is also very courteous.
What I loved the most is their Rabdi Jalebi. So, next time when you are planning for dinner, keep this place in your priority list and do not forget to try their Rabdi Jalebi
This famous Chaat platter is surely a winner . Deconstructed samosa , dahi bhalla , bhel and papdi Chaat . We highly recommend the wild mushroom chai .
Good service! Good food! Courteous staff. Valley parking is there
Masala library is the place you have to visit to have a very modern and special Twist to Indian food. Don't bother to select, go for the set menu both during lunch and dinner, of course the dinner being more elaborate but both are class on its own. The dishes keep coming and their take on presenting each dish in a unique way just adds to the experience, in addition to the taste being out of this world. They take immense care to ensure between courses they provide a palette refresher to not overpower the tastebuds. With table reservations at a premium, it is vital to have your bookings before you venture. It is an experience worth having and truly recommended.
Unique concept .....one of the best places I have ever been must try ....indeed class apart 😃
If you want to experience an exotic culinary journey then head to Masala Library - A name that has disrupted the food industry in modern times. Their tasting menu is the one you must try for it’s sheer experience. It truly is a gastronomical experience for foodies for it recreates the traditional dishes by the use of science, yet retains its authenticity. Words are not enough to explain the beauty with which they display the art and science of food in their tasting menu.
Awesome experience
Ambiance: Good
Food Presentation: Very Good
Taste: Yum / Awesome
Service: Very Good

I have tried both veg and non veg versions of their tasting menu. Its simply too good. Every single item is carefully crafted and plated very well. The star of the menu is of course caviarized Jalebi with Rabdi. Simply mind blowing. Would like to give one small suggestion to the guys planning the menu sheer korma should be served ideally after serving the Jalebi with rabdi. Because serving is before sort of reduces the flavor of jalebi with rabdi.
It has fabulous taste and the best modern food stuffs.. With quality and good quantity food products.. Loved the taste... And must say it's the best restaurant because the best foods are served here
The menu and food are certainly exotic and different. The serving ans presentation style is equally unique. Portions are a bit on the smaller side. Rates are certainly on the expensive side. I presume that is what makes it exclusive. Not a place one can visit casually. Prior reservations advised. Especially weekends.
Couldn’t ask for a better place for Indian food with totally different taste and flavours. Favourite place for me from now.
Tasting menus comprising of a large number of bite size courses are a rage all over the world . The best Michelin starred restaurants and most of the restaurants in the S.Pellegrino world's best 50 list , from Eleven Madison Park to Noma to Gaggan offer a tasting menu . Unfortunately restaurants in Mumbai are yet to come around to this concept . Traditional Indian cuisine as well doesn't easily lend itself to plating in the French/fine dinning sense. Masala Library I believe is among the forerunners in India at offering this type of a dinning experience .
Ambience : This is quite a nice restaurant with elegant decor . The seating couches are really comfy . They use plates of different designs for the various courses .
Service : The service I witnessed was spot on . Considering the fact that the tasting menu is quite long and takes nearly an hour and a half to finish I think the coordination between the kitchen and the serving staff was quite good . The various courses were brought to the table without having to wait for too long .
Food : The first thing which was offered was amuse-bouche . It was presented in a woven basket made to look like a bird nest with an egg in the middle . The yolk of the egg was made of mango ( probably by using spherification ) . It had a nice mango taste . Next there were 3 snacks Bhalla semifreddo which was the best among the three . The deconstructed samosa tasted exactly like a samosa . The third was what they called farmer's staple which was a thalepeeth served with chilly mayo . For the next course they prepared a soup at the table which was presented in the manner of tea . Dehydrated mushrooms meant to represent tea leaves and truffle oil converted to a crystalline powder representing sugar were mixed in a broth in a tea cup . The soup was quite nice with a prominent mushroom flavour . The mushrooms though I felt were a bit chewy . Next the starters were served . The gelouti kebab I felt was the weakest among the starters . The presentation was totally unique and looked very nice . It was extremely soft and the taste was good but I did not like the texture of this dish . Braised lamb chops with maple and kokum glaze was good . The jamun and fennel pork rib was the best . I do not like the taste of jamun but the the flovour combination totally worked in this case . Good job by whoever designed this dish . The pink pepper tiger prawns with caviar cream I felt were too spicy for my liking and left my tongue burning . Just as I was thinking of reaching into my purse and having a bite of chocolate to take off the heat they brought what they called a palate cleanser . It is almost as if they had read my mind and was a really pleasant surprise . It was a sweet frozen yogurt preparation I believe , presented as a lolipop . This completely extinguished the fire burning in my mouth . The main course which followed was really nice . The gravy was not too spicy and really delicious . Finally the desserts . Sheer khurma was nice . Malai toast and berry cream was the best . The jalebi caviar dessert I felt was too sweet and gave me a sugar overload so I could not finish it . After this there was a small presentation at the table . Superconductor , magnet , liquid nitrogen and you get chocolates floating in the air . The final thing on the list was pan flavoured candy floss .
Overall I would say it is definitely something you should try at least once . As the fine dinning scene in Mumbai evolves with time I think we will see other places offer things like this . As for now in Mumbai , Masala Library is leading the way .
One of the most beautiful ambience and courteous staff.
Indeed they at par with the fine dinning experience.
The quality of food is 100 and and the presentation is beyond our sense of creative instinct. However it's a little overly prized for the portion. But I still have no regrets paying for the kind of exquisite treatment and welcoming environt.
One of the fine taste in mumbai. Truly amazing.the food quality is good as well as the quantity, friendly staff with good welcoming. Very well maintained ambiance
The food ambience and overall service was good and its really good to visit and the food presentation was also good and tasty. It was my first time and I enjoyed a lot...
Celebrated Independence Day by having the special Chef’s tasting menu at Masala library. Started of with Dahi Bhalla and deconstructed Samosa. This was followed by their mushroom soup which was super. Then followed their three starters. The trio of Galouti kabab (which was average), the pork rib (easily the best of the three) and finally the prawns which was good in a different kind of flavor. Main course was Mutton curry which tasted delicious, but unfortunately the meat was chewy and fatty. We were then given a palate cleanser. Until this point we were still feeling quite hungry and the stomach was ready to take in more. The desserts changed all that. They were three or four different kinds of desserts and were very filling. This could have been the best part of the meal. They served sheer khurma, malai toast and jalebi caviar. Last but not the least was their molecular Belgian chocolate which is fascinating to watch. This meal was priced at 3200 per head all inclusive. Very good service and decent ambience. The surprising part was that for such a big restaurant, they have only one toilet for gents. So there were 5 people waiting which is unusual. The chef and staff were very helpful and kept asking for feedback.
Masala Library by Jiggs Kalra is a restaurant in Bandra Kurla Complex which offers a great spread represented by dishes from different parts of the country. Though the dishes are given a modern touch by the use of science in form of molecular gastronomy for which the restaurant is known, the authenticity of each dish is retained in terms of its preparation. In short it aims at recreating the traditional dishes in turn offering a truly gastronomical experience for the foodies in the town.
A well lit restaurant with wooden ceiling, beige and brown combination and white table setting with music playing in the background makes it a destination perfect for a date with your loved ones. Such a perfect destination in BKC gets reserved very quickly hence its recommended that you reserve your table. We have returned once as it was fully reserved so do not take any chances.
The chef's tasting menu is a perfect display of art and science being applied to the food. They do have a seperate menu for vegetarians and non vegetarians which helps each and everyone in rejoicing the lip smacking dishes specially selected by the Chef. On request special Jain dishes are also served which are as tasty as the others so now all the Jain foodies have a reason to experience this gastronomical adventure at the Masala Library.
Amuse Bouche which is served as soon as you arrive in a nest is a palate cleanser. The dish resembles the eggs in the nest but its a Mango Yolk with a coconut water, a perfect example of molecular gastronomy. It was delicious and the burst of yolk will certainly refresh you.
There are lot of options for you to sip with your loved ones thus making your date just perfect. Out of extensive menu of drinks, ordering a Sangria was must to make the moment just perfect. We also ordered Masala Library Special Shikanji which was tangy and perfectly spiced by freshly grinded spieces. Red Berry Splash is a fruity drink which is sweet to taste and is recommended by us.
The Tomato Soup is served in small cute cups which makes it looks like a cup of tea. The soup was delicious to taste. It wasn't too tangy or too sweet it was just perfect.
As we were sipping our soup the chef shooted us with the bullets made up food in rounds.
The first thing that arrived was a Charcoal Pakoda. It was served jain. Its just mix vegetable pakoras with activated charcoal in the batter. It looked like the burnt Pakoras but they tasted amazing. Highly recommended.
A plate of Pesto kababs were soon served. The kababs were perfectly cooked and were soft from inside. They were cooked with retaining the moisture inside the kebabs and the taste of pesto was something new for us.
Corn Khees Pepper- This was available in Jain. This was more like a cheese corn ball giving it a twist.
A dish called Farmer's Staple which is nothing but a thali peeth was served along with mayo. It was okay to taste.
Now a new version of samosa a "Deconstruction of Samosa" arrived which was nothing but a crispy strip of dough topped with potato in normal version and raw banana in jain version at 3 positions and green peas. According to chef it has to be eaten in 3 bites giving a taste of samosa in the mouth.
Bhalla Semifreddo is nothing but a vermicelli snack topped with sweetened Yoghurt and garnished by beetroot dust and beetroot crisp. It was light and tasted good.
Amarnath crusted Poriyal had lots of veggies inside and was served with goat cheese raita. It was crispy from outside and full of flavours from inside. Highly Recommended..!!
And then Rahul's favourite arrived Bihari Daal Pitha with seasme crust which is a crispy pocket filled with daal (sattu) and drizzled with mustard oil. He just loves Bihari cuisine.
Mushrooms have recently become his favourite and when he had a bite of Mushroom Tikki served with truffle butter cookie there was a glow on his face. It wasn't spicy but it had balance of all the flavours. He just loved it. Highly Recommended..!!
As soon as we were done taking bullets popsicles made with Mishti Dohi and a drizzle Raspberry Sorbet was served. It acts as a taste changer and makes you ready for your main course.
In main course we were served with a sabji made with fresh vegetables tossed in rich spicy gravy. It tasted amazing with laccha paratha. A bowl of daal makhni was also served which Rahul calls it a bowl of Happiness. Usually you are served daal makhni which is sweet but it wasn't the case over here. It was just perfect. He totally binged on it and managed to finish two bowls of it.
A Rajasthani main course Papad sabji with Churma and Curry was also served. It tasted good and Payal loved it.
Desserts:
All the desserts are eggless over here, hence you need not worry. There are around 4-5 different Desserts. Out of which we tried some.
Jalabei Caviar- Again molecular gastronomy was applied here & served in a completely different way. A caviar made from gram flour served in a pool of rabadi and saffron milk foam. The entire thing is served in a seashell. You just need to visit once to experience everything.
Malai cake with a drizzle of Blueberry Cream and Sheer Khurma with Golden Nuts both were delicious to taste. Sheer Khurma is served in a different style. A bed of rabadi topped with rice flour noodles. When had it together it tastes just like Sheer Khurma.
The dark Belgium Chocolate was a show stopper. The presentation was made by Chef Bhushan which is based on theory of Qunatum Levitation. This dessert is a must try if your a dark chocolate lover. The chocolate is suppose to be cold & then to be eaten directly.
Overall we had a lovely experience at this place.
You can't go wrong with Masala Library. It's been running for many years but is yet providing the best modern indian in the city. I have visited Masala library about 4 times with my friends and family and have also been enlightened.
Indian food is usually heavy and here the portion sizes are decent but it turns out heavy after having a couple of dishes.
We started off with:
1. Tandoori Gucchi- A mushroom dish that cannot be found in every restaurant is the gucchi mushroom comes from Kashmir and is expensive.
2. Tandoori Paneer Barrels- A Gujarati flavor as its served with pickle and khakhra.
3. Umami crumbled mushroom soufflè- It's a truffle saffron with fried mushroom kofta's.
4. Malai Paneer- The all-time paneer that can never go wrong.
We didn't try the desserts this time but would recommend their rasmalai. Their preparations are to the point and the presentation with making your experience unbelievable.
In my recent official visit to Mumbai I went to this place along with office colleague. Food was really good, ambience and service was Absolutely outstanding dining experience at Masala Library by Jiggs Kalra! Every dish was a masterpiece of flavors and presentation. Ones again Thanks to Anil and Balwant make me special memories for Masala Library !!!
My first time in Masala Library was back in 2019, due to working reasons I have to go to Mumbai once per year from Spain 🇪🇦 and ever since, it is a MUST go to Masala Library. I didn't try the fixed menu (I always think it would be to much) so I go "a la carta" my favorite meal is "butter chicken" not so spicy and they are able to fixed it to my level of spicy tolerance 🙏🏽 .
If you want to try a real Indi food not soo spicy, I highly suggest you to go and try Masala Library!!!
The most special experience, an absolute dream. Service was out of this world, truly welcoming staff. The tempo of the meals and drinks were Mr.Anil staff made us special Dining Experience. We feel like Warm Friendly, well knowledgeable, great hospitality. .
Overall; Masala Library lives up to it's billing & more.
The degustation menu is pieced together from pincodes all across India.
The flavours transport you to these locations, with ingredients and preparations piecing together their own culinary stories.
I left the Masala Library knowing I would soon be back.
This place merits it's reputation.

Excellent dining experience! We had the chef’s tasting menu, both veg and non veg as a group. Chef Rahul’s storytelling is mesmerising! As is the attention to detail and plating of dishes. Each of the courses is thoughtful and novel. Highlights were the snacks and starters. Caring service helped me with gluten free options.
Chef tasting menu was stellar
Loved chef Rahul and chef Sabby so talented Everything was just next level
Monsoon menu just stands out
I recently dined at this exceptional restaurant, and I must say, the experience was nothing short of delightful. The food was not only good but absolutely delicious, with each dish showcasing a perfect blend of flavors. The attentive and friendly service added an extra layer of enjoyment to the overall dining experience. I highly recommend this place for anyone seeking a culinary treat coupled with impeccable service.
It's not a restaurant, it's an experience!! Words won't be enough so I would urge you to visit and have your own unique experience!!
Soup and a starter which is like Hara kabab was my favourite, loved it !
A wonderful place to enjoy a well planned and plated 9 course menu. Obviously well curated and and balanced. Service and atmosphere of the restaurant was really good, food lacked by just a bit. All in all a good place with a different experience and good ambience with reasonably sized portions.
Easily the best Indian food and experience I’ve enjoyed. The fusion and interpretation of Indian street food is awesome. Staff are knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. Highly recommend
We tried the chef's tasting menu. All the dishes were good. Would definitely recommend trying it out.
I had the pleasure of experiencing the food tasting menu at Masala Library yesterday, and I must say, it was an extraordinary dining experience. From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I knew I was in for something special. The ambiance was elegant and welcoming, setting the tone for the gastronomic adventure that awaited.
The staff at Masala Library proved to be the perfect blend of warmth and professionalism. They were well-versed in the intricacies of each dish and ingredient, and their enthusiasm for the culinary creations was contagious. As the courses progressed, they took the time to explain the story behind every plate, giving us a deeper appreciation for the artistry and thoughtfulness that went into the menu.
The highlight of the evening was when the chef himself graced our table. His visit was not just a gesture but a showcase of his passion for cooking. He wowed us with a raspberry palate cleanser, prepared right before our eyes with the use of liquid nitrogen molecules. The result was nothing short of spectacular - a burst of flavor and a delightfully refreshing experience that left us speechless.
The food tasting menu was an absolute symphony of flavors. Each dish was meticulously crafted and presented like a work of art. The fusion of traditional Indian spices with innovative cooking techniques was a true revelation. From the delicate appetizers to the rich and indulgent main courses, every bite was a journey into the realm of culinary excellence.
The attention to detail extended beyond the cuisine. The service was impeccable, and the staff was attentive without being intrusive. The ambiance and decor exuded sophistication, making it an ideal setting for special occasions or memorable evenings.
The entire experience at Masala Library was one to remember. It transcended the boundaries of a regular dining outing and became a culinary exploration that left us craving for more. It's not just a meal; it's an event filled with surprises, flavors, and passion.
In conclusion, I cannot recommend Masala Library enough. Whether you are a food enthusiast or simply appreciate the art of fine dining, this restaurant will surpass your expectations. From the knowledgeable staff to the exceptional chef's creations, it promises a dining experience that will remain etched in your memory. I am already planning my next visit because one visit is not enough to savor the brilliance that is Masala Library.
