All of the dishes you’ve ordered looks wonderful and must have been a delight to taste. The fact that the owner comes up to his clients to have a chat means that he’s not only interested in profits, but rather really enjoys talking to them.

I was on a trip to Mumbai with my college friends. And we have decided to try all the legendary places in colaba which we can cover. Being a chef i have interest in tasting all the cuisine around the world so decided to try with parsi cuisine for our lunch in BRITANNIA CO.
I had the best experience at this place because i met my favourite actress RATNA PATHAK SHAH with her famous husband NASEERUDDIN SHAH for lunch😍😍😍
So this place already won my heart with its crowd and their decor which was pretty simple yet rustic.
The staff was very courteous. We placed our order for SALLI CHICKEN with ROTI and CHICKEN BERRY PULAO. It took just ten minutes to serve our food.
The taste for the BERRY PULAO was exclusive and the quantity was generous for three people and their SALLI CHICKEN was succulent and flavours were upto the mark and the salli was giving the perfect crunch to it...
Perfect place for lunch 👍
Thank you so much BRITANNIA CO. And their team to provide us such an amazing experience.
Will visit again soon 😊🥰

We had a lot expectations from this place being one of the legendary outlet in Mumbai!
So, we had the famous raspberry soda(which my wife loved it!), Bombil fry, Chicken Farcha, Berry Pulav (Chicken, Mutton, Prawns) and Caramel Custard!
We loved the food! The vibe!! And the courteous staff!!!
The staff was so good that we ordered Salli boti and half way knew we couldn't have it. We asked the staff to cancel the order. The staff was so cool, he said I thought it was going to be heavy so didn't place the order!
The only reason for 4 stars is the ambience could be better. The place some renovation. And yes the meat pieces in berry pulav need to be marinated. They didn't feel to be part of the pulav.
Otherwise we just loved it!

The flavors were delicious, nevertheless if you can handle spicy food, you may struggle! The girls asked not spicy food, it was spicy and even when they brought for a second time something 'not spicy', it was still a bit spicy!! So get ready for that 😎

The place doesnt really need any introduction. Its the best joint for some scrumptious and authentic parsi food.

The place is always full and no they do accept reservations....you have to take a chance and sometimes wait for your turn, but once you do the place doesn't disappoint.

The food is MOUTHWATERING......please try the berry pulao....mutton, chicken or veg.....we had the mutton one and it was delicious....we also called for a portion of veg dhansak with rice which was also yum. Please also try the caramel custard once you are done with your meal. It hits the spot immediately.

The waitstaff is efficient and nononsense. The ambience is old Bombay with checkered table cloths on round tables and plastic chairs.

Also please carry cash as they still do not accept cards. All in all a must try.

My first time visiting this Mecca of Berry pulao. Thouroughly enjoyed the food. Mutton cutlet was delicious.
We ordered veg Berry pulao for vegetarians which was just about right.
Salli botti with bread /roti was mouth smacking. Mutton Berry pulao was the USP about this place and made it to every table around us.
It’s the fifth generation which is running this place. They like to maintain the charm of the place and the authenticity and originality of what a Irani cafe used to be.

This place is like a legendary outlet for all Mumbaikars. The ambience is archaic and cozy. The menu is not vast, but they are excellent in whatever they have to provide. If you come here, it's advisable to come with a group so that it is possible to try out all their dishes together. The Sali Boti was okayish but the Berry Pulao was amazing. Truly a legendary outlet.

A very heritage food joint to go and dine, the ambience itself very historic great great service and hospitality, the menu is small and crisp, the famous and there hallmark berry pulav is the dish to go for here which is a fabulous recipie,u can just go on eating it,, the other dishes are also great, the sossoyo tastes very raw, many of them would not like it, the price is expensive though worth the money,, there quantity is good enough serving 1-2 easily,,.
On a whole a must try place for all the people and foodies

Had always thought of this as an overhyped place, but the berry pulao was outstanding. Perhaps one of the very best biryanis/pulaos I've ever had. Superb! Kudos to the staff for being patient and courteous. Thumbs up! Only issue is the heavy pricing. Can serve smaller portions for half the amount to be affordable!

The visit to this place is on word of mouth or due to blogs on the net. Being at the far end of the city in a business district, normal restaurants don’t have a huge footfall. But due to blogs, international presence and ofcourse due to the vintage Mumbai feel, people from many countries visit the place. It’s famous for its Parsi cuisine and the mutton beri pulao. We three visited this place on a Saturday which is normally open till 6 pm. Other days it closes at 4 pm. And closed on sunday.
we ordered the mutton beri pulao, chicken salli boti and the favoured sosyo drink.
the salli boti was nice with crispy potato scrapings (what we call farali chivda). Along with a big size chapati it adds a nice combo. The much hype on the beri pulao managed to live up to the expectations. The quantity is pretty sufficient sharing for max 3 people provided u order for something more along with it. The after effects of the food isn’t too heavy on the stomach, which is a good thing which means the oil and ingredients lived up to the quality (for someone with a sensitive tummy like mine). It’s worth a try n experience this vintage restaurant (a scene from movie tezaab was shot in this restaurant). Please remember it is CASH ONLY. So beef up the wallet before u plan a visit. Perhaps next we might try the other items on the menu.

One of the landmark restaurants of Mumbai.

The moment one visits this place, you get transported back in time. The ambience is quite good and cosy although the interiors are not that well maintained.

Good options are available in starters like cheese, chicken sandwiches.

The main course has amazing options available like the dhansak, Berry pulao and biryanis.

Do visit this place at least once for the delicious food and the experience.

What I ordered:
Sweet lime soda
Custard *highly recommended *
Mutton Berry pulav (must try)
Dhanshak

The much hyped place to try Parsi cuisine is this... For the hype and location the pricing is way too high so bring in the budget to enjoy your meal also a bummer only cash accepted so no cashless transactions... Saying this you go here to enjoy the ambiance ... the food is good and yes if you are not a Parsi so you got to try the berry pulav and also a bit of information dhanshak is mourning dish so it’s basically brown rice with plain chicken curry so you might not like it though it’s recommended.

This tops the list of Iranian cafes and is a must GO. Enjoy the old Parsi ambiance and simple food. Berry Pulao and Raspberry Soda turned out to be good but Carmel curstard was a disappointment.

This is a cash only place but you wouldn’t mind the minor inconvenience.

It was one of the best experience I had recently dining out at one of the oldest restaurants in Mumbai. Staff were so polite and helpful. They have kept it very clean. And serve one of the awesome pulavs.. Tried mutton and paneer pulav.. They were awesome. But they come in huge quantities, so take some friends with you to share food. Also tried bombay duck and sali kheema which is also good.

Our Review: 4.5 / 5:
Housed inside a colonial bungalow, Britannia & Company Restaurant is currently being run by Mr Boman Kohinoor – a third generation Kohinoor since it opened its doors in 1923. Hardly anything’s changed here- neither the ambience nor the décor, you will still spot the same bentwood furniture imported from Poland during the eatery’s early years. They have a cut out of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate at the restaurant as a part of their decor, as they love the Royals. Coming to their food, this place is known for serving the berry pulao – a recipe that was brought to life by the late Mrs Bachan Kohinoor. Inspired from her days in Iran, she decided to introduce the special Iranian pulao to the restaurant, and it has been a hit ever since. Here, they serve seven kinds of berry pulao, with barberry still being imported from Iran to retain its authenticity. Finally ending your meal with Caramel custard would be a perfect finish. Service is definitely very good. Overall if you are looking to plan lunch with your family then this should be your preferred place of visit.

This is one of the old places, popularly known for berry Pulao'. I tried their chicken biryani and mutton cutlets. Very simple and delicious. The cutlets were crispy and medium spicy and they were served with sali-crispy potato. The chicken they serve here is only boneless and the biryani also had boneless chicken. The fragrance of biryani rice makes it irresistible!

This restaurant is a must go if you want experience the heritage of Mumbai. The setup takes one back to imagining what Mumbai would be like in old times, the pre-independence and post independence era.

The food can be described by its simplicity. It’s not a culinary master-piece or a place you should go, if you want finger licking good food.

That being said - the food is definitely better than many places. And, the entire ambience does play a role in you enjoying the food.

The berry pulao, caramel custard and their sodas are very famous and must try.

When I visited the place FINALLY, I was surprised to see only 3-4 tables occupied. I ordered sali chicken, berry chicken pulao and rasberry soda.
Sali chicken just has the perfect blend of spices and the crispy thing on top gives the curry a nice crispiness. It has good amount of chicken pieces in it. I ate it with bread. The edges of the bread were quite hard.
The chicken berry pulao was way too large for one person to eat. Chicken pieces were very few yet it had a nice sweet flavour to it.
I did ask my server about the history and late founder of the place. He sadly didn't know about it.
The place is quite expensive and from the lack of noise and the activity from the kitchen, it appeared to me that they just make the food in bulk and reheat the same and serve to the customer.
Overall, expensive place to be visited for its old world charm.
Food 4/5 good taste but not freshly made
Ambience 5/5 for its history

I love taking people to Britannia and Company for the pure joy of experiencing Bombay as it used to be; a city that is dying. The iconic restaurant is situated in Bombay's picturesque Ballard Estate. While the food in itself is lovely, what an afternoon spent here truly represents is a chance to connect with a part of the city's culinary history. The restaurant dates back to the earlier part of the 20th century, when Boman Kohinoor, a Zoroastrian immigrant from Iran, decided to open a restaurant in the city, which served Parsi food. Those who dine here, will still see Boman come around and chat with them, telling them stories as they eat; though since the passing of his brother Merwan last year, he's become a little more reclusive. I will say this much; I've definitely eaten better Parsi cuisine elsewhere, however, no establishment provides a better, more well-rounded, authentic experience of Parsi gastronomy, along with a historical appreciation of Bombay's hospitality trade, than Britannia and Company.

Cafe Britannia brings back the age old British years to life. Once you are in cafe Britannia you will go back in time to authentic Irani culture. Mr Boman the owner is 90+ years of age but his enthusiasm is infectious. He has the energy of a teenager and he plans to break the record of longevity in age of the current oldest person in world. The food is simply awesome and I vouch for it. Do not forget to have the caramel custard and Baklava.

Loved this place. Yes a few more tourists than elsewhere but it feels authentic, fun and was delicious. If you want a sense of old Bombay, I felt this offered it. Add in the house dog sitting at cash counter, whirling fans (no air-con) and photos on the wall of a bygone era then you have an idea of what to expect!

Cash only. Great food! I'm new to the Parsi cuisine so I can't vouch for how authentic this is, but overall, it was something unique and tasted great. We got the berry chicken rice and the dhansak. Both were flavorful. Decent amount of food, antique vibe and quick service. I did feel like the waiters were constantly looking at us while we were eating - I wish they gave us some space. Excellent location not too far from major landmarks. Overall a great spot and would recommend to anyone.

Go for flavours! Parsi-Iranian cuisine. Berry rice is famous though a little less oil will be appreciated. Also, portions are good. More than 2 can have a plate of berry rice. Awesome crunchy caramelized onions, cashews and Oranian berries, like the tangy cranberries! Sodas again are quite highly rated, opinion differs from person to person. Overall fine, one must visit at least once. More non-vegetarian options, including tiger prawns special berry rice!

It's a great place to have an authentic Parsi meal. They have a limited number of dishes. Food is decent. They don't have air conditioning but the place has an old world charm to it as they have left it unchanged from the time it was built. They haven't even painted the place. It is a high end place. Parking is easily available on the road on weekends. Very few veg options so if you are a vegetarian, this place is not for you. The place is open only for lunch. Another important thing is that this place is cash only. They don't even accept credit cards.

One of the most famous Parsi cafe in Mumbai with authentic ambience and rustic feel. While on a streak of parsi cuisine we decided to visit as it was on the list of must-visit places. We went for lunch and unlike other Parsi cafes this is not a pocket friendly option at all. We had berry pulao and mutton cutlet along with a Pallonji soda, with the bill turning out to around 1150rs. The pulao had an authentic taste with a generous amount of berries. The cutlet had 2 large pieces and was a bit bland to taste. Note: it closes at 4pm sharp and they accept only cash (no google pay also)

Iconic is the word. Food was typical as I had first tasted 45 years back. Great Parsi cusine. The Berry Pulao was as tasty. The chicken cutlet succulent. Sali boti was also as I remembered it from years back. The caramel custard was to die for. Service was prompt. The proprietor was as quaintly cranky as Uncle who used to sit at the"Galla" years back and regale us kids with stories of Prince and Princess of wales having come to this restaurant. My only grouse this time was the prices which is frankly 5 star and not complelty upsets the value equation.

People who give this iconic place a rating less than 5 need to stop smoking whatever illegal stuff they might be on. The food - Mutton cutlet, Bombay Duck fry, Mutton and Chicken Berry Pulav was outstanding. The lime soda to wash it down is brilliant too. The gentleman serving us has been there for a long time and is as quick and polite as polite can be. It isn't without reason that the place says "There is no love Greater than the love of eating" May it last long and keep the Irani tradition going.
