Good place to dine. Though I wasn’t that impressed with the food. I really love their chicken pepper garlic. The service is really good. Banana caramel dessert had a strong flavour which turned me off.

The pork ribs were to die for. I will go back only for them. The beef was also amazing, however pork remains a personal favourite. The only thing that put me off was the attitude of the staff. I understand that old establishments have their own identity and do not need to pull in new customers, but the apathy of the Jim Me staff was something else altogether. Also I think he might be overworked and they should hire more people...but that's not my place to suggest. All in all, almost a perfect experience.

We can't recommend this place enough and we're totally glad to discover this hidden gem!
From the traditional Chinese interiors to the authentic Chinese flavours, we fell in love with the vintage vibe of Ling's Pavilion
We totally recommend the Prawns on toast, soups and the dimsums on the menu! To get a taste of the best dimsums, order the dimsum platter - both the setamed and fired options are quite stunning
Order cautiously as the portions are quite generous!

Legendary joint for Indian Chinese food in colaba. We ordered the chicken rainbow soup, a prawn appetizer and the haka noodles. The soup was a clear soup with shredded chicken, it was well made. The haka noodles were exactly what you would expect from a good Indian-Chinese joint. The baby prawn appetizer was the best dish, would highly recommend! The portions were huge and this was enough for two people with a good appetite. Ambience could be improved.

Great service, Amazing food and classic decor. (Been going regularly since I was a kid) Admittedly Lings went through a bad phase that stopped in 2015 or 2016. I'm glad Lings is back in action and has been serving legit Chinese food on the block again.

Let's talk about the food.

-Little disclaimer, I seldom order vegetarian so if you are vegetarian there is only one item I have tried and it is amazing, its the chinese samosa looking things, unfortunately I've forgotten what they are called-

What I normally order
SOUP
Not to hype it or anything but it's literally my favourite soup I've had all over the globe. The Wonton soup with Roast Pork. Broth is extremely flavourful, and there is some meat in every single bite. You can chose Prawn/Chicken/Veg/Pork wontons.  This soup is soup for the soul.
STARTERS
- Chilli Garlic Prawns: Amazing. They choose a good supplier for prawns as they quality is pretty good, the acoutrements to this dish are satisfyingly chunky, so you can definitely dig into the chilli garlic mixture towards the end. All you garlic fiends don't miss this.
- Shumai (Siu Mai) really nice texture and mouth feel. The filling is stuffed.
MAINS
- POT RICE - This is the flagship. I request for a bacon/mushroom pot rice. It's amazing.
This or the
- BACON FRIED RICE - what more do i need to say?
Staple order to go with this is two mains (normally Im here with a party of four) one in Mongolian sauce (dark brown spicy) and one in singapore sauce (orange/red and slightly tangy/spicy). The sauces are solid, I do chicken in singapore and prawn mongolian as my preference. The quality of the sauce is good, and spreads once you run a spoon through it, it's got no soda or additional hang ups.

I tend not to have DESSERT here so I'm sorry - can't help you with that one :P

DECOR
- FISH- DUDE! They have live fish downstairs. I've ogled at them many times, very calming. Some koi fish to look at.
- Actual Decor - Love Lings' style. They have maintained their old ceiling, it's really a stalwart of Mumbai decor. I don't take many photos, but you can see plenty in other reviews!

SERVICE
- Like I said, they went through a bad phase. They have some staff that have been there for years, they are amazing. The new staff could use a little upskilling to be honest, but nothing out of the norm. They are always courteous and seem to want you to enjoy your food and time at the place. This is a hallmark of management who likes to serve people good food. I feel very welcomed here all the time.

Hope you enjoyed the review.

It's was a long wait since I had been dying to eat some authentic Chinese in one of the oldest outlets in Colaba. Lings it was and surely I didn't make a mistake. Started with the Prawn wrapped with bacon's served with mint sauce, tamarind, vinegar sauted in red chilli and some onion sauted. Perfect starter with some kingfisher lager. You get a buzz in the afternoon followed by slow cooked pork belly in soya. Although the same was served with boiled eggs but it's an optional quotient. Steam rice with the pork belly have a 60/40 ration of fat and meat made my day. Finished the whole dish alone and couldn't afford to leave a bit on the palate. Everything including the behaviour and courtesy of the staff as well as the taste of the food was worth the drill of traveling from Khargar to Colaba. Thanks for the lunch and the hospitality.

It was my first visit to this old and prestigious restaurant even though I have lived here all my life. The food is completely authentic, delicious and worth every penny. The red snapper, simply steamed with ginger and lemon was so so so delicious and couldn't get enough of it. The service was also great and I personally couldn't have asked for more.

Old world ambience with great food. We had the chicken pancakes, red chilly pork and ling's supreme rice . Portions were generous, service was quick and food was delicious! The interiors of the restaurant also stand out with a teeny bridge over a koi pond to access the eating area.

Our favourite Chinese food for years. Their food n service is excellent.
In starters try their bacon wrapped prawns, Prawn sui mai, bbq meat, diced chicken with chilly garlic, corn curd n their special roast pork if ur luck they make this pork.
In the mains Mangolian Chicken with their chicken mushroom pot rice or prawn bacon mushroom fried is to die for.
The best Chinese in town is Lings for sure.

Iconic and genuine Chinese fare. None of that excessive garlic in every dish that most Chinese restaurants in Mumbai tend to put. Flavors are real, service great, suggestions genuinely good and great helpings. Been here often and never disappointed!

Typical old authentic feel wala Chinese restaurant. It was a delight to visit this place. The hot and sour chicken soup was nice, spicy and filling. The stuffed crab claws are a must have! Absolutely delicious. I would come here again for them.
The lemon garlic mixed herb basa was also delicious.
The pork roast hakka noodles were good too.. Soupy style. A bit bland but authentic Chinese flavour. (so those preferring Indian Chinese should give it a miss).

Old Is Gold is the most apt quote which comes to mind while visiting this place. Their food has been consistently great everytime I've dined here. I have been here multiple times but it's never disappointed me. Buch of pretty things the little bridge, the lit up ceiling, the art on the wall by the staircase etc.

Dishes we tried were

---Corn curd (4/5)
--Steamed pakchoy, spicy ribs with pot full of garlic rice topped with mushroom & bacon bits (5/5)
--Honey glazed spare ribs (5/5)
--Salt & Pepper Baby Lobsters (4/5)
-- Steamed spare ribs (4/5)
--- Mongolian chicken (4.5/5)
--- Red cooked pork with tofu (4/5)
---Crab in chilli, garlic & soy (5/5)
----Honey pepper spare ribs (Goes well with Bira)(4/5)
---Fish ball soup (3.5/5)
--- Salt & pepper prawns (4/5)
---Peking duck (4.5/5)
--- Prawn wanton soup (3/5)

One of the other good things here is that it's easy to get a table whenever one turns up.

We were at the Regal Cinema for a movie after ages, and decided to have something light for dinner, thus the only choice was Chinese or Continental and we went for Chinese. Though Colaba has over half a dozen good options for Chinese, the obvious choice was Ling's Pavilion due to its proximity to Regal and the great food you get there. The ambience is wonderful with a e Garlic Prawns and Chicken fried rice with Mongolean Prawns all of which were finger licking good. Other highly recommended items are prawns in rice wine sauce, ginger chicken, lemon chicken , lotus chicken (with prior order) and velvet chicken to name a few. There are varied options in other meats too. It's a great place to go have a good meal with family or friends. Weekends can get too crowded so suggest you book or try and be there before 8:30 pm to avoid a long wait.

What a night it was!!
Found a place which is so close to all the places I’ve been visiting since my college days. This place is situated in the heart of Colaba.
Honestly I had never seen this place before.
I’ve frequently visited this lane for eating, partying, day drinking or just hanging but always missed this place.
Ling’s is an old school Asian restaurant (known for seafood) huge in size and pretty in decor.
Sticks to its old school methodologies of operations, this place is huge and has a great bar setup too. Focus being the food, this place attracts huge family crowd, travellers and expats.
We entered this place at 10:30 pm and were told immediately that we won’t get much time to pick and choose.
We placed our entire order at once. Servers are old school & very well versed with their food. Suggestions were given and we ordered for a soup, starter & mains. They have a hot & sour clear soup (which I’ve never heard before)
I ordered the Tom Yum (decent portion size, served piping hot and was great in taste)
For mains we ordered Veggies in Schezwan Sauce with rainbow rice (vegetation fried rice)
Once again, decent in quantities and great in taste.
They serve a small portion of kimchi and radish as a snack, it was so well made that had it been in the menu I would have ordered that as an appetiser.
On request the server gave us an extra portion of that. Our friends enjoyed their preparations made in different sauces with chicken.
Overall we had a great time, everything was in a hush hush as we entered late, had to give all the food order at once and then leave by 11:15 as it was their closing time.
Too much happened in just 45 minutes.
I’m glad I discovered this old place, we will be back for a peaceful dinner soon.
Thank you :)
Hope the legacy continues for another 50 + years.

Ling’s Pavilion was established in 1945 🙏

Situated on a busy street, it’s one of the legacy restaurants here. Might find it crowded on a weekend. You get an oriental vibe of the place with the walls done up with lovely art. Service can be improved majorly because around closing time they’re always in a rush.

Ordered their special pomfret starter. Boneless and super tasty. One can kill for it but the high price can come as a shock. So do check for seafood pricing before hand.

Later ordered the pork fried rice which was amazing and moderately priced. I’ll vouch for the taste of the food. Hands down yummy dishes.

The cocktails can be missed because they’re not very close to authentic taste. Stick to the basic liquers.

Though this place has been around for so long, the food has remained consistently good. I have been here multiple times and have tried a number of things but have never really been disappointed.
Went back, last evening, after a long time. It'd probably been years since I'd visited. The place looked nice. A bunch of pretty elements like the little bridge, the lit up ceiling, the art on the wall by the staircase, etc.
The Sui Mai was subtly flavoured and had just the right amount of everything in it though the sweet chilli sauce served with it seemed rather watered down. It came in an apparatus which had a flame on, so it stayed hot even if one took time eating it. Very innovative! I hadn't seen dimsums being served in this way elsewhere. The stewed rice, though, was a tad too bland and lacked flavour.
One of the other good things here is that it's easy to get a table whenever one turns up. There are a lot of tables so, even though the place is usually quite full, there usually is a table or two unoccupied

One of the best Chinese restaurant in India and definitely the best in Mumbai. The family which runs the restaurant originally migrated from China and started the famed “Nanking” restaurant (now closed). Ling’s serves authentic Cantonese food and I really love their sea food options from the menu. My recommendation will be crab nanking soup, bombay duck fry, basil leaf chicken, mongolian prawns, salt and pepper chicken, chilly garlic fish and mixed fried rice. Quantity is more than adequate and if you are not sure what to order from the huge list of items from the menu do ask for suggestions.

Honestly, I have not noticed this eatery even though I have been to Colaba a lot times. It's either Cafe Mondegar, Leopold, Bademiya, Baghdadi that I end up going. Then, when I noticed it just bang behind Cafe Mondegars, I was very much suprised that I missed out on this awesome Chinese place all these years. Had Crab soup, golden fried prawns fried in rice flour with a sweet flavour, prawns dumplings, rainbow fried rice and ended with some honey noodles. Food is too good and the portions are generous for small eaters like me.  Definetely going back.

Hands down one of the best Chinese cuisine places in the city and definitely the best one in Colaba. If you are hankering for Chinese or are a fan of the cuisine then not coming here is akin to sin. Top of this it's reasonably priced ( we were a little shocked our bill given we ordered so much , had alcohol and given the area )

A few more points :

1. Very friendly and Knowledgeable staff
2. Honestly one of the few places in Mumbai the serve scrumptious Pork dishes
3. Reasonably priced alcohol
4. Ambience is awesome right amount of lighting and sound

Only caveat is to get table bookings a few days in advance if you are visiting especially for Weekends

The best place in Mumbai for Chinese food. Excellent ambience with great food and superb quantity at reasonable rates. The place is owned and run by a Chinese origin family which also ran the excellent ‘Nanking’. The service is polite but can be a tad slow at times. I have been visiting this place since 1998 and have been amazed in the way they have maintained the quality and service. I would recommend the following dishes:

1. Sweet corn Crab meat soup
2. Pork spare ribs in chilli garlic sauce
3. Chicken Wantons steamed
4. Chicken Stewed rice with exotic vegetables
5. Chicken mushroom pot rice
6. Red cooked chicken
7. Chicken in Mongolian sauce

Shockingly, I visited ling's for the first time today, having been born and brought up in South Bombay.
The ambience is reminiscent of restaurants from my childhood, the 90s interiors, with the entire Chinese landscape and Chinese home re-creation. We were seated on the mezzanine floor with the view of the waterbody and the entrance, and it felt like the perfect spot in the restaurant.
The food here is closest to authentic Chinese as I can imagine authentic Chinese would taste like, or farthest from the Indian adaptation of Chinese food, which is what I understand draws back customers to this charming place.
We ordered the chicken steamed wantons and bacon wrapped fish. The wantons were beautiful, moist and not dry like steamed dumplings/Momo's/wantons tend to get if not made fresh. Tender chicken stuffed inside it was perfect.
The bacon wrapped fish is offered with or without batter around it (its fried); we got it without, trust me you want to skip those empty calories and focus on the good stuff.
It's probably one of my favorite things I've eaten (barring all things sweet, I mean, come on, you knew that). I'm also biased because bacon is life (and tons of cholesterol but that's why we skipped the batter!) That bacon was perfectly done, crisp not chewy like most places serving bacon underdone, and juicy af. We chose fish, you can also get chicken or prawns. The fish is basa so not the best fish option but still soft and delicious!
For mains we got the chicken in Singapore sauce (choose between shredded or diced chicken, we got diced) and pork in black bean sauce with mushrooms and bamboo shoots, all to go with chicken fried rice.
Loved it all, the Singapore sauce has egg, but it adds so much to the dish. The pork was tender and juicy and we really enjoyed the entire charade!
Also, surprisingly, skipped dessert because by the end we had to loosen that belt a notch!
But I'd definitely have gone for those warm honey noodles with chilled ice cream!

Thank you for our server, extremely patient through all our questions and kind to suggest options and customizations off the menu!

This is a real jewel sitting prettily amidst the madness of Colaba. An old favourite of Mumbaikars, it exudes an old world charm the moment you step inside. The entire place is built on levels. And therefore it offers enough privacy should you want it.

A small water body in the midst of the restaurant with a small bridge only adds to the charm.
(thankfully there is no fake oriental music to add to the ambience.)

We ordered the dimsum platter, noodles and chicken in oriental sauce. We were quite surprised to find Baos in the dimsum platter. But Baos were kick ass, as were the momos.

The noodles were a little on the crunchier side while the chicken was okay.
Interesting observation: Sprouts in noodles. It was the first time, I had sprouts in noodles and they tasted great.

Go for Ling's Pavillion, It's a beauty.

So frankly I had never heard of this place for the longest time and I made a visit on my friend's recommendation. If you love Chinese then this is the place you need to be!!

Place & Service:
The place is few minutes from the Taj Palace hotel. The place is difficult to be judged from the outside. However, the moment you enter the place you will be amazed to see the ambience. The decor is exceptionally well crafted and the seating also is very spacious. It is spacious enough to have family get together. Service wise the staff is very warm and they are aware of the dishes and will give you appropriate suggestions. Brownie point to the staff who attended our table.

Food:
So the food menu is pretty exhaustive but I would recommend this place for Non vegetarians. They have plenty of options to choose from.

While I laid my hands on the vegetarian dishes, they were good too. I had ordered:

Kung Pao Potatoes: Well in ideal situation the dish is made up of small sized potatoes, however, we were served with fries tossed in the sauces. The dish did taste really good but somehow wasn't convinced with the name of the dish.

Ling's Regular Noodles: So this was pan fried noodles with Veg American Chop Suey. I am not a noodle fan but this was just delicious. Loved the crispiness of the noodles along with the veggies. Highly recommended.

Had a great experience and would love to make another visit to try out their menu at length. Best suited if you are looking at some authentic Chinese in the city. Go and pamper your taste buds. 😀😀

There’s something quite comforting about Chinese restaurants that seem impervious to change. Ling’s Pavilion is one of those places. We went on a busy Saturday night and chose familiar favourites to start with: spare ribs, salt and pepper prawns, and mixed steamed dim sum. The ribs were tasty and yielding, the prawns were large and nicely deep fried. The dim sum were a little claggy but not unpleasantly so. Main dishes included Singapore rice noodles, pork with aubergine and well prepared bok choy with garlic. Service dipped as the evening progressed - they did seem a waiter or two understaffed. But overall Ling’s is a good choice for fairly priced classic Chinese in Colaba.

So I went to Ling's Pavilion recently. Was my first visit. Can't believe it has been around for so long (more than 76 years) and I never visited it, inspite of having full knowledge of it. My sister and friends have been going to Ling's since years.

So, this time when I knew I'll be in town, it's to Ling's I decided to go. When the city's Chinese, Koreans and Singaporeans miss home food, they come here. So, I was really stoked to try it.

Went there on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Was ushered in and went to the washroom. Loved their gleaming white spotless bathroom 😆

After being seated, perused their exhaustive menu. So much variety. Difficult to decide. But on this day I had come for steamed fish. Had heard they have the best steamed fish in the city. So asked for one, and voilà! Did they bring it! A seriously huge fresh, gleaming pomfret. Wow! They said it's meant for 2-3 people. But boy, do they know me! I was up for the challenge and famished to boot. Decided to devour the whole thing.

Ordered it steamed in Cantonese style with meat, shiitake (a variety of mushroom), preserved veg and ginger. I have uploaded the pic. It arrived in all it's glory on a large plate.

It was served to me with rice. Mouthful after mouthful I ate but hardly felt full. It was so light and delicious and soft. Even the meat and veg accompaniments were really good. Finished nearly the whole thing and asked the rest as take away since I also wanted to have dessert.

For that, I chose the mudcake with ice cream (pic uploaded). I like mudcake in very few places and now Ling's Pavilion has made the list. Perfect amalgamation of warm mudcake with cold ice cream. Very good!

I also tried a mocktail - Ling's Pavilion punch, a cream and pear based drink which I didn't care for much since I don't have much of a sweet tooth (even though I am a Bengali and even though I ordered dessert).

Overall, a hearty experience, thanks to the staff, Ravi who helped me throughout. There was also a gentleman sitting just inside the entrance. I guess it was the owner, Baba. I would like to thank him for his concern since he saw me checking my phone prior to my meal and warned that the food is very hot and I must be careful. How thoughtful ☺

I did not give a rating of full 5 due to only one reason - the fish tasted fresh but did not smell that fresh.

Ling's Pavilion is not just any run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurant. It's your ONLY stop for authentic Chinese food.

I had visited this place with my brother for my birthday treat. We reach by 7:45pm and we're greeted by the owner and given a nice centre table.

There is a huge list of things we ordered but what has stayed in my head is the pork dumplings...more like a bao; and the crab spring rolls. Yummmmm is an understatement.

The quick and efficient service compliments the delicious food served. The staff is courteous and welcoming. The place has a vintage feel to it and it makes you feel at home.

Ling's Pavilion is an experience, one should have.

This satisfied customer will be back soon...

Ling’s Pavilion is known for serving authentic Chinese cuisines since long long time which is situated at a easily accessible area of Colaba, just behind Regal cinema. The place is spread in two parts, ground plus mezzanine floor.

I thought at 12 noon , I was the 1st customer of the day to enter the restaurant but for my pleasant surprise, I could see about 12 Chinese tourists who have already half way through their lunch !!!

As it was too early for lunch at 1200 noon, I decided to go straight into main course and I was suggested to try half plate chicken fried rice with Red cooked chicken which are favourite ‘running’ dishes among regular guests at Lings Pavilion !!!

While waiting for my orders, I started clicking pictures of interiors which nicely portraits Chinese traditions and ‘environment’.  Presence of Chinese tourists endorses the fact that restaurant is known for authentic Chinese dishes!  The Chinese owner Baba was at the entrance and he was thanked by each and every tourist in own their language while leaving the place. It seems Chinese tourists must have been home sick or sick of having spicy Indian dishes and finally landed at Lings Pavilion to taste their own home food and eat to heart’s content in Mumbai !!!

Coming back to my order, I truly liked both the dishes and packed the balance which will take care of my dinner at home !

The Bold sentence at the bottom of bill of Rs. 704/- states ‘SERVICE CHARGES NOT INLUDED’ which is much appreciated as most of the fancy restaurants ‘extort’ money from customers by levying 10 % additional service charges which is totally unwanted and uncalled.

Xiexie ( thanks ) Ling's Pavilion.

One thing I was surprised with this place was, that it is kind of a secretive place in Colaba area. Plenty of my Mumbai friends were not aware that such restaurant existed.
Although filled with plenty of customers and with quite a chit chat going around, this place had good arrangement and orientation. The table are well laid to have a little privacy and enjoy your food. With interiors giving the feel of Chinese joint.
Coming to food, you have to keep in mind that each dish comes with plate filled food to brim. It’s delicious, mind blowing and you really don’t get enough of it. When we had ordered 4 starters the manager himself told us that we order main course if we are done with starters. Trust me with four of us and 4 starters we were done for good. We couldn’t think of having any main course or desserts.
We had ordered 1 portion of drums of heaven, 1 portion of Dim sums, 1 portion of Chilly Prawns and 1 portion of chicken wings and some beer. It took quite some time to finish all this and we could not have any main course.
I was very happy with the staffs honest suggestion for not letting us order any main course at very beginning. I would love to go to this again just to have main course food very soon........ and probably some dim sum as well.

Visited this place on Sunday night. It was 10.20 pm so we were informed that it will be the final order for the day. We ordered for prawns soup with honey and pepper pork ribs. It was an amazing start. We also had dimsum and some whiskey sour which was very well blended. In main course we had a pot rice which was of chicken prawns and beef. The meal was 10 on 10. The ambiance is also amazing. Totally recommend

An old Chinese restaurant kind of experience- Ling’s is the place to be. Their Chinese tastes exactly like the Chinese you get in Kolkata made by the local immigrant Chinese residents. The quality is fair enough and portions are filling.
Their chicken rainbow soup is one of the best I’ve had!! Golden fried prawns were very fresh. The mixed steam platter is a must have for Momo or dumpling fans!! The only let down was desert.
What i find most fascinating is how punctual they are about shutting down (11 is sharp 11) and they yet give hand written bills!! Over all great place for a quite Chinese dinner

Went back to Lings Pavilion after ages,to have lunch. Ordered the sweetcorn crab soup followed by golden fried prawns and prawns on toast for starters. Main course was chicken fried rice and Mongolian prawns. Every single item was delicious. Really felt happy having all good dishes. Service was excellent in terms of food being served very fast. Ambience was okay.

One of Mumbai's Legacy Restaurants, Ling's Pavillion is a personal favourite. An extensive menu, it can sometimes be difficult to figure what to order, but there are some items that you must try: Corn Curd, Golden Fried Prawns, Prawns on Toast, Crackling Spinach, Mandarin Chicken, Shredded Chicken Chilly. I sometimes also go for the Chinese Chicken Chopsuey, which is not as sweet as the American Chopsuey. It would generally be 1200 for two unless you order some of the seafood or offbeat dishes. If you are in the Colaba area and looking for a place to have homely Chinese food, this is the place to go! Definitely worth a visit...

I have been visiting Ling’s Pavillion and before that Nanking a restaurant owned by the same family since 1983. At least that is my first memory of it. I have loved every dish that they make and my sojourns to this place have always been delightful. I have introduced this place to many people and all of them since have become ardent fans of Ling’s. My fav dishes are the Snow White Soup, Nanking Fried Prawns, Bacon wrapped prawns, Pork Mince and Salt Fish Pot Rice, Chicken Bamboo Rice, Mandarin Fish, Sweet and sour prawns, sliced fish in burnt chili sauce, and many more. It’s a place to go for good chinese food.

what a lovely experience we had here. it was completely packed being Sunday but not even once we had to remind the staff about taking our order down or serving us food/ water. right from the manager noting our order till the desserts we were well taken care of. considering there's only 1 manager who takes the orders down I must say he's par excellence for delivering the food right on time. he tirelessly runs around noting each table's order and we realised everyone around was just too happy with the service. and yes the food without a doubt was delicious!!! in all we had a great experience!! keep up the great food and great service!!!

Ling's Pavilion has been my go to place when I crave delectable and lip smacking Chinese food. Have been coming here since a decade. Their ambience is sophisticated and chic. Lighting is even better. Servers and staff are polite and extremely hospitable.

Their Dimsums, soups and starters are amazing. Quantity and quality has been up to the mark always which is one reason I keep coming here often.

They have a wide menu to choose from and one has something new to try even if you are a frequent visitor.

Great place to visit with the family or kids, the menu is extensive and might get a bit confusing so I suggest you pick a number between 1-40 and just order it. Don’t forget to try the pork ribs !

Service is average, drinks are not worth it, perfect for only food.

This restaurant deserves a five star rating. Tried the pork ribs in chilly garlic sauce and these were definitely something u would want to eat again n again. The meat was sufficiently soft and juicy ; in short it was perfect. We also tried the Mongolian chicken and the chicken and mushroom pot rice based on a friends recommendation. Other recommendations from a regularly visiting friend include pork buns, bba platter, gin chicken, and roast pork chilly dry (old style )

Ling's Pavilion is a Chinese food lovers paradise.
Right from the interiors to the service and the food, everything is on spot authentic.
I have a fixed set of dishes that I always order cause I just never get tired of it.
Nanking soup, honey pepper spare ribs, tenderloin Hong Kong, Rainbow rice. Then there are these steamed buns which is also yumm.
Overall ling's is always an amazing experience.

PS: if your lucky you might get a chance to have a conversation with Baba Ling one of ling's founders. He's an amazing guy.

I am fairly certain I heard of Baba Ling within the first two days of my landing in Bombay.

But it isn't all that surprising, considering Ling's Pavillion seems a major source of happy childhood memories for most 80s and 90s kids who grew up in the Bay.

Ling's has all the trademarks of a "cool place" in the 90s.

A place with unique interiors and seriously good non-indianised Chinese fare.

A place people had to preorder dishes at, and generally went to celebrate a birthday or an anniversary.

But mostly, a place people looked forward to visiting; because it wasn't standard and dreary like most other dining options back then.

Dim lit, family friendly and fitted with a dated but adorable bridge that separates entry and dining, I can almost imagine dungaree wearing Gen Y children running around while marvelling the colourful lights and mini fountains on display.
It probably doesn't hold a candle to new age restaurants and their plush interiors, but there is a charm to Ling's unchanged surroundings that made even a first-timer like me smile.

The menu is extensive, with a large variety of protein options (to my joy!). So we decided to eschew the boring gravy-noodle-rice routine and sample a range of their appetisers and sides instead.

Their glazed honey pepper ribs are quite possibly one of their best offerings, the meat impossibly tender and falling off the bone at the slightest insistence. This, paired with a sticky sweet honey glaze that delivers a surprisingly strong kick of peppery spice makes for a hefty but manageable plate of comfort food most pork lovers would enjoy digging into.

The golden fried prawn on the other hand was a complete disappointment, covered in a thick stodgy batter that for most part rendered the fresh seafood flavour inert. Each doughy prawn only served to sadly remind us of the crisp breaded namesake most Chinese places in Dubai serve on the daily.
I would do anything to get a plate of those golden beauties here. :/

Thankfully though, our other orders took after the ribs!
While I did go in extremely circumspect about their sui mai, I ended up very pleased at being proven wrong here. Our chicken version had agreeably thin dumpling skins holding together a tender, well seasoned chicken mince with bright notes of scallion within.

And this random mix of pork, chicken and prawn dishes was well complemented by a plate of their stir fried greens (baby bak choy), perfectly cooked and tossed with bits of softened garlic. It offered respite from the protein without being too heavy or overly sauced.

Ling's may not be a place of fond reminiscence for me given how recently I was introduced to them. But their menu and quality of food during our visit seems a good enough reason to visit them again in the near future :)

Ling’s Pavilion is a well-recognized name for authentic ‘non indianized’ Chinese food in Mumbai.

The place has never disappointed me, be it with their juicy dim sums or plain and simple salt and pepper chicken.

On this visit we decided to order Mandarin Chicken and Veg Hakka Noodles. The chicken was out of the world and had an awesome roasted taste. The Hakka noodles were prepared as per my specification (lot of veggies and well stir fried). The fresh crunchy veggies and noodles were a perfect companion to the juicy chicken with delicious bamboo shoot based gravy.

We tried gin & orange juice cocktail - a new combination for us and it worked well. It helped that the alcohol content was proper and the drink wasn’t watered down.

The place is spacious with seating on various levels. The whole place has an old world charm to it (after all the restaurant pre-dates our independence). It’s not swanky but has a feel to it. The service is attentive though a little uptight (read: overly formal and rule-abiding).

The prices are not exactly cheap, though its great that they dont levy service charge.

I would recommend this place if you want to relish authentic Chinese food in a peaceful setting.

PS: they have loads of options on their menu.

Ling's Pavilion is a great place to head to after some shopping/sightseeing in South Bombay. If you love Chinese food then this is the place. Order their Bacon wrapped Prawns and Spare Ribs. Both dishes are cooked exquisitely well. The other dishes that I have tried are the dumplings which are great.

It's a shame that I've been to such a legendary place after such a long long time. The dumplings ordered here were so good and juicy, the chicken starter ordered was also one of a kind. I had ordered fried rice with bacon in it, it was simply stunning. My only negative was that the bacon could've been diced a bit smaller as it was a bit chewy and tougher to have with the rice.

A lovely place to share food with your near and dear ones. Located at a walkable distance from Gateway of India, this is an expensive restaurant serving Chinese food. We ordered 3 starters and the bill was almost 2 grand! Sadly the quantity also doesn't justify the price.. Tastewise it's good but nothing great. We tried kung pao prawns, chicken drumstick and chilly garlic chicken. Impressive part is that it has a nice ambience.

This is one of the best Chinese restaurants around South Mumbai. Prices are reasonable and portion served is enough for a couple. Taste is really good and one will get the authentic Chinese flavours in each and every dish. Do try the Fried Dim Sum platter and Hong Kong Chicken. The ambience is very warm and the restaurant looks like a Chinese temple garden on the inside with staircases and small wooden bridges to reach separate dining areas. Overall the restaurant is really good and highly recommended for anyone who loves Chinese food.

We have been regulars since last thirty years. But since covid.. v ate few days back n the food was v good. We ordered 3 crabs 🦀 n each with different sauces....singapore, chilli garlic my fav n black pepper. Don't forget to order steamed buns. The chicken pot 🍚, prawns on sugarcane sticks, roast chicken, fried corn curd, prawns with chilli garlic. Lastly lychee with ice cream. We were well taken care of. Specially one of the waiters was always around since eating crabs can get quite messy. He took care of serving us as we wanted n water drinks etc. The owner himself was going around asking every table if they needed anything. Every visit v hv been there, the owners themselves are at the gate to welcome n go around tables. It's also a fact that the owners r known to ho early morning to get fresh catch for their restaurant. The staff they have are equally old n loyal to the restaurant. Those who excelled were even transferred to some other city Delhi where they hv restaurant.

Have never been disappointed with the food or service over the years. They have a very extensive menu - but I’ll be honest here - I just love some items so much that I can’t get past the urge to not order them every single visit. Because of this, I don’t get to try too many other items. Their sweet corn chicken soup, fried corn curd and haka noodles are legendary. Portions are generous but not huge. The restaurant itself feels homely and comfortable - you can bring a guest or come with family or stop in for a working lunch. The atmosphere is informal - yet, the staff is attentive and will not let your glass of water run dry.
