Crystal, Chowpatty:
A simple, no frill place serving some amazing North Indian Food
Quick Service, easy on the pocket and yummy food..I tried their mix veg, dal tadka and thin butter rotis - piping hot... Im surely going back for more...
Super happy with a jain menu section too..
This is an old gem of SoBo. This place has a huge long queue during wekeends. The price is very minimal. They serve amazing dal fry and dal makhani. Paneer masala and bhurji is also good to try. Choley are again lip smacking. This place gives us a rustic feel.
Best place for home-like food in South Mumbai. It has a very simple menu with authentic taste and comfort food. Most of the time the waiting line here is huge and it closes down early unlike other places at Chowpatty. Rajma Chawal is the most recommended dish here.

In the world of pancakes and pastries, we would rather fall for this mouth watering desi Kheer and Fruit cream ๐๐
This old gem is located at Girgaon Chopatty.t It is known for its North Indian food and desserts. There's always a long queue for getting a table there. But let us also assure you that the food is worth the wait. We absolutely loved it ๐ฏ
We tried
1) Malai Kofta and Ghee Chapati- We requested them not to make Malai Kofta sweet but spicy. The sabji was incredible, the gravy tastes so so good, though it wasn't that spicy, we absolutely loved it.
2) Fruit Cream- Well, this is what they are known for. The fruit cream was ultimate. The flavour of the cream along with each and every fruit was just amazing !
3)Kheer- This is their another signature dish. Would definitely remind you of "Ghar ki banayi kheer". Served chilled with extra Malai, well if you have sweet tooth there couldn't be anything better which would satisfy your taste buds
As it is an old famous restaurant, waiting shall be obvious but not to worry as they have very fast service. Talking about the cost, it is very cheap and budget friendly.
Willing to have some basic dessert??
Crystal ice cream is definitely a place to go.
Located right across with a sea facing view, this place has become one of my favs.
Known for "Ghar ka jaisa khana", this place does not have fancy interiors, but always have queues.
Place ~ Crystal, Chowpatty, Mumbai
Dish ~ Fruit cream, Kheer, Lahori Paneer, Masala Papad, Malai Kofta, Butter Roti
Price ~ INR 580/- (cost for 3 people dinner)
Rating ~ 4.5/5
We ordered 1. Kheer : definitely one of the best kheer I ever had, very thick, creamy, appropriately sweet, they could work on its temperature (I thought they should serve it either proper chilled or proper hot)
2. Fruit cream : I love fruits, n I loved this fruit cream, it was chilled, it had good quantity of seasonal fresh fruits.
3. Malai Kofta : Would not recommend as it was very sweet.
Superb place to eat at good location.
One off the best kheer im mumbai I specially vist only for kheer
Crystal is absolutely a place where you will get homely food, simple flavors. Its almost crowded all time specially weekend. It has family and youngster crowd both. Its has no ambience with no fancy frills.
Things in tried out
Pah bhaji- its a must try definitely. Butter loaded pavs and bhaji and nicely cooked.
Paneer butter masala- it was quite simple, home style Sabzi. Itbwas Mildly spiced and paired with ghee roti.
Fruit cream- u can't miss out this when at crystal. Its loaded with cream fruits and served chilled. Even do not miss out kheer.
Its a must visit who crave for homely food.
Any bachelor who has lived in south mumbai would know about this place. It is a very old place and most people visit here because it is inexpensive. For me i found the taste to be a bit above average, nothing that great the way people talk. But yes for a budget meal it is a place to visit.

Located near Girgoan Chowpatty this place serves food at extremely cheap rates without compromising the quality and quantity of the food. This place is a legacy.
My favorite joint for home made food , good Jain food and awesome kheer and fruit cream
I love paneer Tikka masala and crispy roti and aam rass
The food was very delicious specially paneer tikka masala and mushroom.
The ambience was good a little vintage type.
The staff was friendly.
Must visit!!
Best place for food .... just go for it guys. My favorite place in Mumbai after my kitchen. Only challenge is the long queue outside restaurant.
Love the food here especially the phulka chapattis, but would appreciate if the quantity per portion is more ( dal makhni, vegetables, dal khichdi).
Located right across from Chowpatty with a sea facing view, this place has been one of my favourites. I've visited this place right from when I was a child with my parents that the owner(the old uncle) knew us pretty well and wouldn't let us wait in the long queue Crystal usually has.
Known for its Punjabi food, this place doesn't have fancy interiors and in fact, they installed an ac after the old uncle(owner) passed away.
In frame :
1. Rajma, paneer and butter chappatis.
2. Dal and jeera rice.
3. Masala padpad.
4. Chaas(Buttermilk)
5. Fruit cream.
All of this roughly costed around โน500. This place is very pocket friendly and excellent food.
Must try for all Punjabi food lovers.

One place that always pulls me whenever I visit the SOBO is this restaurant. If a hard-core non-vegetarian getts pulled in to this veg restaurant than the other very good nv restaurants in the SoBo, then there is something definitely good that this restaurant does. And undoubtedly that thing is the 'Taste'.
Will start off with the hostel days that we spent here. One visit per week was mandatory. The first time I came here and had that one morsel of 'Baigan ka bharta' it gave me that Ratatouille movie food critic feeling. Homely taste that can please anybody. I have tried all the menu items here and i can vouch that anything u order will taste good. My personal favourites are Baigan Bharta, Rajma, Aloo Paratha, Masala Papad, Dal Makhni, Masala Rice and who can so no to Fruit cream as desserts!!!
The restaurant has an emotional place in my life. The restaurant, before interior renovation has some weird paintings on its walls, a lovely 50s-70s bollywood songs playing in the background, the old load bearing madras ceiling, old wooden railings, the gloomy lights, slow moving fans and the face of crystal- The old man-the cashier- the calculator in himself. He passed (and the news itself was covered in Mumbai Mirror front page- RIP sir) and the restaurant got interior rennovation.
Now the interiors have changed, but the taste remains the same.

Stole some time from office to visit this place for lunch and we were lucky to find it sparsely filled. The staff is extremely courteous and it was lovely to be served by them. Coming to the food, the paneer bhurji and malai kofta were excellent, paneer masala was average, dal tadka was above average, the roti were fresh tawa phulkas and were great, the rice serving was quite big, the chaach was decent, the aamras was ok. The place is quite clean and dirt cheap. Would like to visit again
Nostalgia should be the second name for Crystal. All of us who have lived in hostels in South Bombay have a special place in our hearts for this iconic restaurant. Dal, paneer bhurji, aloo jeera, kheer and aam ras are must order dishes here!
One of the oldest places in South Bombay. You might even miss the place . Has a small board by the name of Crystal ice cream . Small , AC place with quick tasty cheap Indian food. They even have Thali system which is not in the menu- so ask for it . Home cooked food at a very economic price. Definitely a must visit.

I have never been to a place till now serving such delicious food which feels like home.
Excellent taste and the chapatis feel like home.
Very quick service.
The seasonal Aamras was amazing ๐ ๐ ๐
It's a small place with pocket friendly and tummy filling dishes. Ordered chole, chapati, biryani, aamras, kheer, fruit cream..all were delicious..
It is one off the authentic north indian food in Mumbai in Chowpatty, tried their paneer paratha,Channa masala it was nice, and had half rice with Channa masala it was good combination, the price is okay, ambiance is simple and nothing special, overall a great taste of food, located just opposite to Chowpatty beach.
Ambiance : clean,neat and tidy.
Food : we have ordered roti, mango juice , rice kheer , bhaji , roti , biryani
Price : value for money for overall experience
Service : quick
I just like this place because of kheer and fruit cream
It is just outstanding worth having it nothing and no place can compare with their kheer and fruit itโs truly amazing
This place is best for all who look for good economical food. The food quality and taste was quite decent and best part was butter chapati, it made me feel I was eating at my home. So A must try for all living away from home.
Situated bang opposite the iconic girgaum chowpatty, this pocket friendly eatery stands tall amongst its next door up market competitors. The ambience is nothing to go ga-ga about. Itโs pretty old school. The airconditioning helps you relax though. Over to the food now, we ordered a masala papad, Aloo paratha with dahi, paneer Bhurji with Phulkas, jeera rice and dal tadka..... all this for a paltry 500 odd bux. Which is why I said pocket friendly. The taste test: the aloo paratha with the dahi reminded me of the time I had this combo at a dhaba outside delhi. Simply superb. The masala papad was ok. The paneer bhurji was prepared in simple spices and yet was perfectly flavoured.... went well with the hot phulkas. The jeera rice- dal tadka combo was the best I have had in a while and boy I have tried a fair share of this combo at umpteen places. All in all I have to say, this is a definite thumbs up for me. Locked and sealed in my goto list.
Location: Very close to Wilson College
Dinner @ 4
(Had to wait for half an hour before we finally maNaged to get inside. Damn crowded)
Plus:
Very simple north Indian food
Roti, this is one of its kind!!! No other place in Mumbai serves such homemade rotis.
Very pocket friendly
Quick service.
Negative:
NOTHING
Overall experience: EXCELLENT
Super awesome place.....Great food quality with reasonable prices......a family dining place..... Staff is also very nice......Great experience.... My personal favourite is pav bhaji... ๐๐

This is second home after home. Food is always hygienic, less oily and best of all too budget friendly. Located just across Girgaon Chowpatty in a very old fashioned building. Suits my palate any time I want to have homely food outside home. They have the best kheer you must hhave ever tasted. Go for it guys
They serve exactly like "Ghar ka Khana". This place is very famous in Girgaon location because of their Homestyle food, You may have to Wait in queue during evening hours to get inside this restaurant. They really deserves all the hype they got bacause of food taste and quality.
Ordered: all Deserves to Get 10 on 10
Kheer
Fruits Cream
Roti
Paneer Masala
Veg Biryani
Each dishes above was worth of every single Penny. Prices are very reasonable by looking at the location and quatity is also good.
If you don't like Kheer then make sure to try their kheer and fruit cream I bet you will forget all the other desserts you have ever had, Kheer was out of the world and Even Rotis were super soft and Ghah ka style.
I would recommend this place to each 1 of you specially with family, You can visit this place with your parents of any age because their food is very mild on spice and quality is like Home.
Really good pocket friendly restaurant. It seems tiny and nondescript, but you can count on it for basic everyday delicious vegetarian food. The pyaaz paratha (not on the menu but just ask for it) is one of the best parathas I've eaten. A total must have. Other good items are matar paneer, chole bhature and can't miss out on fruit cream.
I was introduced to this place many years ago when I was new to the city and craving simple homemade food. Nearly a decade later, went back last month with a friend who is new to the city :)
First up, the queue to get into the restaurant, which I had forgotten about and which has only grown in the years between my two visits - it is reasonably fast moving, but do be prepared for roughly a 15 to 20 minute wait. You may get in marginally quicker if you show up at 7 sharp. The good part is they now have a panipuri stall right outside the entrance, so you can polish off some panipuri as an appetiser while you wait. The stall looks hygienic and they have some interesting flavours, but we preferred to conserve our apetite and wait for the yum food inside.
Once in, we ordered dal fry, mixed veg and Roti, all of which were served within minutes. Repeat orders of Roti were also served within minutes, and the hot phulkas are bliss, with or without ghee. The food was yum and without excessive oil or spices, just like "ghar ka khana", which is what i remember from my past experiences here too. Their Baingan Bharta is a crowdpuller, as is their alu Methi and alu gobhi.
For dessert, they have a grand total of three options, but when all the options are lip-smacking, you don't really need too many. We ordered the Kheer, which is served cold and is deliciously thick and creamy, with just the right amount of sweetness.
We were in and out of the restaurant in 45 minutes. But when the restaurant in question in Crystal, where the focus is on good food, value for money and home feels, you don't really need more.
Dal khichdi !!! The item which we get in almost all restro and wherever you eat it has some kind of different taste which sometimes proves to be ๐ and sometimes ๐ท but here it proved to be ๐. It is the dish I always prefer to have either as dinner or being foodie can eat after having dinner too ๐. It was normal dal khichdi but was having its own amazing spices in it which was very delicious. And if you have it do put lemon juice in it and than have it you will really love it like anything, it my personal preference. Always crowded and very renowned place and proves to be delicious since centuries. Must must try ๐
The best experience i ever had nd surprised to see pocket friendly price with delicious home flavoured food at such a prime location. Had to wait in line at dinner time for hardly 10min. but was worth every second.
Had Mushroom Masala Bhaji with Rotis, Dal makhani with Jeera Rice, along with Chaas. Food is delicious. Value for money, affordable prices. Located opposite Girgaum Chowpatty. This place generally has a waiting period, but I believe it's worth the wait. They have added air-conditioning which makes it pleasant inside.
I have been twice thrice but writing review for first time.
Quality of food at Crystal is just too good. In our team we have lover of Crystal
Kheer of Crystal is the best
Awesome food and nice place to have veg lunch and dinner, service is great and top of the line food is not expensive it's a budget friendly restaurant
Budget friendly and good tasty food ... ambiance is simple but paisa wasool food ... location spot is superb... ideal for the family get together and party with hungry friends
Crystal this is the first place comes in my mind whenever I feel home sick, the food they serve is just like eating at your home and total value for money and the kheer is the best thing, must try if you stay away from your family and miss home food, and try to go early if you are planning to go on the weekends!!
Located on the opposite side of Chowpatty Beach, One can enjoy a hearty meal at any given period of the day as the cool sea breeze refreshes you. The structure is the same as it was probably decades ago, minimalistic decor, where the only ambience is what lies outside the windows. The staff is cordial and responsive.
The menu doesn't have a million items and that is sometimes a relief when all you seek is a hearty meal packed with flavour, home style rotis, delectable fresh fruit and cream all at a very reasonable quantity+quality to cost ratio. It is definitely a must visit for all.
I had lunch today at this hotel.
A good variety of vegetarian foods , At reasonable price. It is located opposite girgaon chawpati good service like the food
This nondescript looking place is located in the buzzing area of chowpatty (walking distance from charni toad station). However, looks are deceptive since people were queuing outside the place waiting for their turn to get a seat inside. So my foodie herd mentality told me something was definitely the USP of the place. While waiting outside , we tried their panipuri (that day the flavor of the day was green apple and lemon rose pani puri ), and boy nothing beats the good old khatta meetha panipuri. The flavors are good for experimenting but I will only vouch for the original one.
So finally we were called inside....yayyyy. Nothing fancy about the interiors, no washroom either. But I will not complain because their dishes are very reasonably priced like really reasonable. You can check their menu to substantiate my statement. Homely food in steel plates, I am all up for it when the food is delicious and it was !!!! Paneer bhurji was average, bhindi pyaaz was good, dal fry was the best and so was zeera rice, paneer masala was average. The papad was huge, could easily share it with others. The best are the desserts: the kheer and the fruit cream. No fuss about it, no weird tasting jellies and no pretentious garnishing, just the plain old home made not so sugary dessert. i would visit this place again when I visit marine drive.
This is the best place for every batchelor, college student or anyone else for that matters who likes to try economical food. The food here is very tasty and the quantity is good too. In a very small amount you can enjoy a good meal.
Firstly do follow my insta food page @foodopedia for amazing daily dose of yumminess.

Not much to say but this line will say it all. It's sasta sundar tasty khana with quality service n a normal old structure ambiance.. must try kheer n fruit salad. Chole bhature taste yum

Wanted to visit this resto for quite long time and finally nade it during lunch time. Ordered Paneer Lahori ane Butter chapati. Paneer Lahori was yummy and gravy was amazing. Chapati was of phulka type (which is my fav) and full of ghee. Service is fast and staff is polite too. Further, prices are also reasonable.
Good place with reasonable cost at a premium location .... must visit for vegetarians atleast once, very much crowded on weekends , simple offerings
10 mins away from Charni road station.
It will give you old Bombay restaurant feeling.
The food is delicious and more like a Home taste.
The service is great and definitely go during Afternoon.
They have good variety of sweet dishes.
One must definitely try dal makhani, biryani and lahori paneer out there.
The quantity is enough for 2 people.

I wanted to go here from long time and finally made it for dinner.Location of the place is superb just exactly opposite of Girgaon Chowpatty. We ordered Panner Tikka Masala which was very good in taste and was medium spicy,Dal Mhakahni,Jeera rice with Rotis everything was up to the mark with pocket friendly price.I was amazed when I saw the rates because no restaurant or any other joint in that lane will give you anything in this rate and with no compromise in quality.
This is very old restaurant with duplex sitting.
Staff is very generous and service is very quick.
Rice Kheer is MUST try here it served chilled also fruit cream is superb and recommended.
Food taste homely.
Crystal is a nice budget friendly place for North Indian food. Reminds me of โghar ka khaanaโ, itโs simple yet yummy. The ambience is not very great, but the service is good. We had mutter paneer, dal makhni and roti, liked it all! Would like to try the Crystal Special Paav Bhaji next.
Everyone, from students to CEOs at Nariman Point, come here. Old music, old plates, old place. Same staff for decades. But they remember you and serve you just like they do every time. Rajma-chawal, paneer bhurji, paneer masala, chapati, kheer or fruit custard. You'll never stop.
This place was on my list since quiet a long time and finally visited here on a Saturday for dinner. One of the oldest restaurants in Mumbai serving a great quality Vegetarian food.
Being a weekend we had to wait in the queue for a while, also this place is usually in demand because of the lovely food they serve.
Having mentioned about the queue, the service they provide is super quick and courteous.
The dishes we ordered were as below -
Paneer Lahori - Medium Spicy Gravy with thinly sliced tender paneer pieces is a must try at Crystal.๐
Butter Roti -๐ฅHot small size wheat flour phulkas with butter go great with the Paneer Lahori.
Dessert -โค๏ธโค๏ธ
Rice Kheer - MUST TRY - One of the best and highly recommended dishes on menu. Served Chilled , Thick, Sweet and Creamy Kheer made out of cooked rice is soulful ๐ ๐โค๏ธโค๏ธ
Fruit Cream - Loaded with various fruits and cream as the name suggests was delicious.๐๐๐ ๐๐๐จ๐จ
The food was simple yet homely and yummy. The quality was superb๐โ๏ธ๐๐
Ambience - This place is a very old however they have a duplex seating space. The ambience is not very classy however it is very decent for a family dinners.โ๏ธ
Pocket Friendly - 4.5/5 Best place to give birthday treats or if you are light on your wallets still you want to enjoy lovely Indian food with a good quantity.๐ค๐ธ๐ธ
Service - Despite there being a queue of customers, there was no compromise on food quality and service. The staff was kind and courteous and the service was really quick.โ๏ธ๐
Refer to the yummy pictures.
Happy Eating ๐
A quick service restaurant with excellent fresh veg food . Economical n will surely touch your taste buds . Had paneer bhurji , paneer Lahori n jeera aloo with tawa roti . Definitely visiting this place again and again. Absolutely loved the food. An old, not so maintained restaurant located opposite to Chowpatty which serves food that is heavenly in taste at pocket-friendly price. We ordered:
1)Mutter Paneer- A sabzi that has a homely taste but still keeps you finger-licking.
2) Veg fried rice and Dal fry- Simple but utter delight in taste.
3) Paneer Lakhnavi - This sabzi tastes amazingly out of the world... Most recommended! We loved it !
Best North indian food in terms of taste one could have. Quick service and great taste. I wish they had an outlet in andheri area also. Loved this place.
If you are around Girgaon especially when your looking for a pocket friendly & simple but tasty food Crystal is your destination! I have tried the thali which is quite nice with different veggies, the aamras & rice kheer is the best. though my all time favourite would be paneer butter masala a must try!!
Note: you may have to wait in queue as they are mostly full!

USP : Super tasty food. The queue moves very fast so be patient. Try coming without car as valet parking get a little messy.
This place has been round this place since 6 or 7 decades now, may be even more. Mostly college going student and the hostel boys eat or call for food from this place in the morning and this place is never empty even on the weekdays. Its definitely worth calling for food from this place at home. That what we do more often than not.ย
What we ordered :ย
Butter Roti : 8/10
Dal Makhani : 10/10
Paneer Masala : 10/10
Economical and tasty .Kheer is the must have from here .it's tastes so good .the food is nice and liked it very much.Have going to this place now a number of times.
Economical, tasty and good food. Donโt go for the hygiene. Good to order home and eat. One of the Cheapest food in town. too much waiting at the restaurant when you actually want to dine in. Famous for college going people.

Ambience (3/5)
This place is close to girgaum beach. Old style. Limited sitting.
Food (4/5)
Limited options but whatever we tried was good. We ordered paneer lahori, butter & sada roti (phalka roti), papad and kheer. This is the kind of food, when u eat, u feel really satisfied.
Service (4.5/5)
There was queue but we got sitting within 5-10min. We also got our food within minutes. U don't have to wait for ur roti, it comes piping hot when u reorder.
Value for money (4.5/5)
INR370 for two people for a full meal.
Tip: Don't get scared looking at the queue outside crystal, it goes ahead very fast.
Today was the New Year and we decided to dine in at Crystal which is a crowd favorite of Sobo people. When you want to eat something that is light on your pocket as well as stomach you can opt for this place.
We had ordered veg handi, butter chapati, dal tadka, veg, biryani, chaas and kheer.
Everything was so tasty and yummy that we did not leave anything. The quality and quantity is worth the price. Plus on holidays and weekend you need to be prepared to stand in the queue and wait for your turn since all the tables are full on such occasions.
So if you haven't yet tasted the food here then go ahead and get your taste buds dancing.
P. S. There is no photo of kheer coz that one thing is irresistible. We didn't bother to click it.
They have very good North Indian food, probably the only most affordable and good North Indian food.
I had Rajma, Chole, Rice, Chapati, Aloo Gobhi, Puri Bhaji, Kheer in my 3 visits and everything was good.
They have a small sitting area, so you might have to wait for some time.
Also, they have timings:
Afternoon till 3:30pm
Evening from 7:30pm
Parking: There is a govt parking available charged on hourly basis
Must Visit!!
I recently revisited the restaurant I used to frequent during my college days, and it was a heartwarming trip down memory lane. The updated ambience struck a perfect balance between nostalgia and modernity. The food was as delicious as ever, delivering those familiar flavors that I missed. The same old vibe that I cherished remained intact, and the fast service was a pleasant surprise. What's even better is that it's still quite affordable. I highly recommend trying their Paneer Lahori and Jeera Rice โ a delightful combination that never disappoints.
This is the perfect place for Vegetarian food located in front of Girgaon chaupaty. The taste of food here makes you remember your home food. We had Chole Bhature, Veg- Biryani, Chaas and Kheer. All dishes were delicious. The kheer was ultimate. In summer time, people mostly visit this place for Amras-puri. The quantity of the food is also good as compared to other restaurants located in same area. The service is also fast.
Absolutely recommended...
Good place, decent environment, staffs are good, its old architecture style. Good job๐
A Very old simple restaurant serving Great Food. They have newly renovated yet they have kept it very simple. They are there just to serve food no show-offs. Its mostly crowded at lunch and dinner time. Must Visit.
Oh ho, from where do i start, crystal has been a small family member to us, anything anyday you, it will very hard for them to disappoint guest, from parathas to chole bhature to pav bhaji to paneer burji to bhindi to dal khichdi, everything is almost perfectly balanced to lunch & dinner, not having fruit cream n kheer is an insult to whole resturant. If i have chance to just to visit and food anywhere in india, crystal will be definitely in top 5. For desert it will be always in top 3 for me. Thank you for service and kheer. FYI i don't eat kheer anywhere in country to even for that matter in my home also except crystal.
there are some restaurants known for their taste & some for their vibe. at this place you get both. absolutely amazing experience for me and my friends.
Crystal is one of my favourite places to eat good pocket friendly homelike food.
I recently went there again after really long and tried a lot of dishes.
Sukhaa aloo- really good and flavorful, with Puri.
Paneer butter masala/paneer tikka masala...both fantastic. Flavorful, well balanced , finger licking good.
Rajma - Comforting, not heavily spiced, perfect.
Dal tadka- excellent
Kheer- really creamy, thick and delicious.
Paneer Lahori, palak lasuni and chole.. all very good.
Veg biryani - so so so good. Loved it. Must try.
Roti
Such good food.. must visit crystal.
Best budget friendly restaurant go around 7-8 pm otherwise you have to wait sometime
