It is near Bombay Stock Exchange, walkable from
Flora Fountain, Fort area. Bun Maska and Chai is
classic. They have special good items per day
apart from regular Parsi non-veg and veg food.
Chicken Cutlet and Chicken Masala along with
Breads simply fatastic. The payment is only
in Cash but then, there are ATMs nearby for cash
withdrawal.

One if the few remaining Irani restaurants in Mumbai. It still had the old world rustic charm to it and. Serves a special dish during lunch every day along with Irani restaurant specials like omlette, cutlet and so on.

We loved the Irani Pulao here which is specially served during lunch. It was delicious. And quite filling and easy on pockets.

If you have never been to Irani cafe, font forget to try out the legendary irani chai and Pallonji's raspberry soda

It is one of the oldest Irani Cafes of town.

A classic South Mumbai restaurant serving Parsi food. The place has the typical vibe of these old timer places - simple decor, tables placed close to each other and one page menus. We tried the Mutton salli botti & chicken keema with couple of plates of pav. The day's special Irani pulao was unfortunately out of stock by the time we reached. Both the dishes were tasty but wouldn't call it the best I've had till date. Ofcourse we had the raspberry soda to go with our meal & a caramel custard to finish off. The caramel custard was ok.. it was clearly those packaged ones & not freshly made at the cafe.

Overall it was a filling, decent meal within a reasonable price range.

This cafe is very hygienic and it is for family friends and couples .
The food which you get has a traditional Irani taste and spices added are quite different.
Mutton is best served in this place
Ambience is super , staff behaviour is wonderful and I guess this is one of the best Iranian cafe we have in Mumbai.

Portion compared to price is small so they can improve it
Overall it’s a must visit for people visiting fort or Colaba area.

Cafe military is parsi resturant located very close of Flora fountain. It takes hardly 10-15 mins to reach here by foot.

Even though many restaurants in Mumbai serve this sweet, but its nothing close to this one. Caramel Custard served here is made in house and is one of the best things to try out here. Its soft and smooth and most importantly its made fresh.

This place is closed on Sundays, so make sure you plan to go here on weekends.

Cuisine : caramel custard
Taste : 4.2 /5
Serves: 1 person
Sweet-o-meter: 4/5
Place : Cafe Military
Price : ₹50 caramel custard
Location: Near Flora fountain, Colaba, Mumbai

Ambience : 4/5 (old, simple, nothing fancy at all)
Service : 2.5/5 (waiters were arrogant and did the things at their own pace)
Verdict : one of the few places where you get such nice caramel custard. Mind you, they accept only cash.

The landscape of Mumbai cuisine would be incomplete without the vast number of Irani Cafés dispersed across the city. One of the most legendary cafés has to be Cafe Military.

Located on a busy street in Fort, Mumbai, this café may not look like much on the outside but has character on the inside. Just enter the restaurant and seat yourself. You only have to wait for a few minutes before a server comes to take your order.

You must have their Irani Chai. This is one of the best I have had. This light chai is packed with lemongrass goodness. And no chai is complete without some Bun Maska. They add tutti-frutti to their bread and slather plenty of butter.

I do recommend their cheese toast as well. While vegetarians don't have a lot of options for a hefty meal, you have enough choices to have a light snack. Most people do visit Cafe Military for its affordable range of alcohol.

Service is no frills. The servers are sweet. They come, take your order, and give you your food as soon as possible.

I hope Cafe Military starts providing more options for vegetarians. For now, I'll always go back for their tea.

Cafe Military
An institution for Parsi food
____________________________________
Ambience:
A classic Parsi restaurant with unpretentious decor and seating. Could occupy about 40-50 people at a time, I believe.
____________________________________
Food:

Kheema - Their Kheema tastes delightful. Not very spicy and easy on the palate. The quantity; however, is mildly disappointing for the price.
Pav needs to be ordered separately at ₹5 pp.

Kheema Biryani - Perfectly cooked biryani rice with caramelized onions and chicken kheema.

Service:

The service is a tad bit slow in terms of ordering. Once you place the order, the food is served within minutes.

A heritage irani / parsi eatery tucked away at the side of flora fountain in South Mumbai.

They have half the section with the old charm seating and half with the general seating. Good if they can change some broken metal chairs lying around.

Their signature dishes include,
1) Kheema Sali (Kheena with Sali)
2) Akuri (an iranian scrambled egg, with masala)
3) Mutton Sali Boti (Mutton Pieces in gravy with sali)
4) Kheema Masoor Pulav (Pulav with Kheema and Masoor Dal on top)
5) Caramel Custard for desert
They also serve chilled beer, sandwiches and a variety of other items.

Their food is just AWESOME and they have different specialities, that change everyday.

Rates are reasonable compared to the other irani / parsi joints. Don't expect anything fancy, besides the food.

Waiters are always smiling and service is very quick.

Food: The kheema pav is par excellence. I also tried the fish cutlet. It was well cooked and beautifully spiced. If I had not been fully satiated, I would have went on to try out their other offerings.

Ambiance: Gives you the vintage Bombay feeling. This cafe was first set-up in 1933 by a Parsi immigrant. If the brilliant food is not enough, relish the nostalgia seeping through the cloth and glass covered square shaped tables and the Victorian era clock ticking on the wall.

Service: The waiters make you feel at home and quickly bring the food. You won't have to wait hungry for long.

This is one of the few places that you get attached to over time. Do visit when in town.

I just loved both those items, caramel custard was perfect. I would love to taste other items on my next visit. I loved the ambience, which was old school. This place is cheap, budget friendly when you compare it with other legendary Irani restaurants.

Military Cafe is one of the few surviving Irani Cafes in Mumbai. The place is a few minutes walk from the Flora Fountain. It has a laid back ambiance and the typical red white checkered table tops add to it's vintage charm. Along with the delicious Irani food the place also serves chilled beer. If you do not drink, order a chilled bottle of Palonji Raspberry.

The Food:

Kheema Pav- 8.5/10

Chicken Biriyani- 9/10

Chicken/Mutton/Fish Cutlet with gravy- 9/10

Chicken Curry Rice- 6/10

Caramel Custard- 10/10

Fish Cutlet with Tomato gravy- 5/10 (part of the Navroj Special menu)

Tips:

1. Visit in the early afternoon to avail all the dishes on the menu.

2. On a Saturday go early or you might miss out on the best caramel custard.

3. The place is closed on Sundays.

Landed in Cafe Military on suggestion of my father who used to work in this area 30 yrs ago.. Nestled in the quite corner of busy Fort area, the Irani restaurant has still managed to to retain its old world charm.. Th le waiters are friendly and welcoming.. They serve you with respect.. Suggest special dishes and most importantly do not let you wait for your drink or food.. Had London pilsner followed by Mutton Masala Fry and Chiken Masala Fry with the staple 'paav'. Yum is the word.. The best part about the whole experience was that it brought back the memories I never had... All in all a must visit for all the foodies who want to enjoy the old world charm of Mumbai..

This place is a ride to old Bombay. The ambience, the food and everything will remind you of the beauty that most speak about when it comes to Bombay. The food is amazing, Sundar swast tikau! Custard is a must have and so is the chai. I roughly had around 3 chais in a span of three hours I guess. Biryani was amazing and so was the kheema. The smell of the fresh bun is enticing. The prices are enticing, and the quantity good. Go!!! 😁

The place is amazing they have very quite old Parsi infrastructure which is very nice. I personally love it.
Talking about food I was having very first time Parsi cuisine so I didn't knew much about it, but whatever I had ordered it was amazing. My first experience was good.
So the very first dish I ordered was this chicken masala with bread you can see the whole big fat chicken in the plate and it tasted so so good they have option for chicken either you want boneless chicken or with bones so I ordered with bones. And this is only for 1 person, in their cafe the quantity is only for one person. So don't ask their about quantity.
Second dish I ordered was chicken biryani this is also for 1 person it was tasted heavenly so delicious it was, they served the whole big chicken thigh on their biryani. They were not serving like other restaurants served like pieces of chicken in biryani.
The staff was so friendly and amazing everything is quick. I really love it.
Go and have fun with your friends and family. ❤❤

The cafe indeed is a remnant of the Mumbai. One say see the space getting crowded with white collar people, young couples, lawyers, and anything anyone that reflects the average Mumbai crowd. Definitely an authentic Mumbai place with seemingly polished yet simple crowd. Great service by the staff and I tried the Monday menu with Mutton fry and chicken fry. Both uber amazing. For desserts, I had caramel custard and was not at all disappointed. The staff suggested that their Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday menus have amazing differently cooked cuisines. For all the food I had, the bill was only Rs. 450/- and anyone who hasn't checked out this cafe missed out on a genuine Mumbai experience.

Located in the bylanes of Fort area this one may not be that easy to locate if you are new to the place.

Started in 1933 this is one of the few Parsi Restaurants to run in Mumbai. They have wide variety of menu and they serve day wise special food items.

Coming to the food i had their Chicken Biryani,Chicken Cutlet,Smoked Chicken,Kheema Pav, Chicken Dhansak, Chicken Masala Chicken Farcha and Chicken Russian Pattice.

I liked their Biryani, Chicken Russian Pattice,Chicken masala, Chcken Cutlet, Smoked Chicken which had some sort of authenticity in terms of a Parsi dish.

They also serve Beer at pocket friendly rates along with Good combination of Snacks.

Surely would come here again to try their other menu.

On a sunny Saturday, after a relatively enjoyable train ride within an empty lady's compartment, my husband and I went to the Kala Ghoda festival. It reminded me of college festival, replete with art that seems fairly amateur, stalls that sell wares that has few takers, too many onlookers, and the customary selfie was in our face. Organizers of the Kala Ghoda festival, you're really conning the public if you think this is the 'best' that you can come up with for the Indian public. I will give credit and kudos to the security and friskers. They were efficient.

Anyway, we then went on to visit family with whom we had a delicious home made lunch, following which we decided to walk around the Fort area, where I saw the bull of Dalal street, bought brownies from Theobroma(heart melt, sugar high, chocolate delight, and cholesterol high) to finally I wanted a cuppa chai to wake me up from my mid afternoon slumber.

Into Military cafe we walked in and I was pleased to discover that it was Beer o'clock. The ambiance is similar to other Parsi cafes- run down, spartan, bare essentials, and standard parsi snacks on offer with a set menu. Unfortunately, only kheema and maska brun was available, so we settled for that with some local beer.

Two beers down, everything looks and tastes good, the world is a great place to be. It's no wonder Vijay Mallya still believes he's the king of good times, and even with his financial losses, he's still living it up king size in London. Beer does make everyone happier and the bladder fuller faster. It would be wise to avoid the bathrooms, let's just say that it could kill your appetite. I, for one, strongly believe that Swachch Bharat starts at home, in our own bathrooms, and in how we use and maintain a toilet. But I digress.

Food's affordable, dirt cheap, lots of Parsi food staples and super quick service. Perhaps one of the few remaining authentic Parsi joints that can sustain it's place in the culinary market.

A must visit for all the Keema Pav, Biryani, Chicken Farcha and Caramel Custard Lovers!

I often visit this place to grab a bite and it never fails to disappoint me. My personal favourite and recommended dish would be the Chicken Farcha which gets over really quick for it's only available on Tuesday and Friday. It's Parsi style fried chicken served with potato wedges and bread. You can choose between the Leg piece or Breast piece. The chicken is tender and fresh while the coating is full of flavour. Their Keema Sali is delicious. The Chicken/Mutton Biryani is yummy and satisfies your cravings and the Caramal Custard delights the sweet tooth.

Do give this place a try!

A "90's feel" Cafe, i went here on a working day and to my surprise the cafe was full. As soon as you enter, you can smell the essence of flavors. A nice decent ambience with good service and even good food.

I had,

• Bheja Masala with bread - This Parsi dish was scrumptious and finger licking good. The self baked bread was soft and treat to have with the gravy. Though quantity wise it would've been better.

• Chicken Farcha - First time i had a parsi starter dish. The chicken piece marinated and deep fried with egg coating etc. Loved it.

• Mutton Kheema Biryani - I don't really have any desire for mutton biryanis. But thought of giving it a try here, surely it was good enough in taste. The mutton was tender and blended well together.

Super food. Old school interiors. Loved the Kheema Paav, Salli Boti (mutton) and the Mutton Cutlet with Gravy. Washed it down with (rarely available) London Pilsner beer and ended the meal with amazingly light, mildly sweet Caramel Custard!
The Kheema was to die for, and had a visceral meaty taste to it, and the Boti had a generous helping of meat. The Mutton Cutlet with gravy was superlative and stole the show.
The bread served is typical Irani bakery bread, soft and fluffy, and it complemented the dishes well.
The meal was really memorable due to the quaintness of the place. Don't expect a luxury dining experience here, and you will be very happy.

Ps: the food is loaded with spices and can be heavy on the stomach.

1) egg omelette- a typical egglicious omelette
2) Caramel Custard - Having this one was the only motive I had visited this place. I will surely recommend this one.
3) Raspberry Soda- a must have when you are here

Whenever I m in Mumbai I make it a point to come at this Cafe because they serve lip- smacking Parsi food. I m fan of Parsi cuisine n I love all the dishes here.

Try their Sali Gosht, Dhansak, Custard n don't forget to have Pallonjis Raspberry Soda. Beer lovers can have their local brew at a very reasonable price.

They shut at 9.30 pm so u have to go early for your evening grub. Thank you so much for your hospitality.

Care military is one of the must try cafes in Mumbai
If I had to suggest one thing here it has to be the dhanasak

Cafe Military is one of my favorite places to have beer and people watch. Kangaroo bear is this place's usp. Their kheema is great. The mutton masala and Chicken masala is also good. Their pav is more like bread. It's soft and really nice.
The Kheema they serve in the morning is the previous day's kheema according to me. So I prefer going at noon or after 12.
If you go here at 10, you'll come across an old man reading his newspaper and sipping beer.

It is one of the iconic vintage cafes of Mumbai. The menu is limited. It serves Parsi food. The food is good. The ambience is vintage. The waiters serve quite fast and will take care of everything. It also serves beers. Pro tip: Do try out the weekday special dishes and kheema salli here

An old favourite revisited after a while. The ambience & waiters are still the same but the food taste is not as before. Still, it is quite good and affordable as compared to some others in the vicinity. I would still recommend a visit.

While passing through Colaba and near Kala Ghoda area, saw this rustic looking restaurant and caught attention. Initially looked dull, but after entering, came to know its a Parsi Restaurant. Tried their Chai, Brun/Bun Maska, chocolate mousse and scrambled eggs, which was really good... Food is Good, service is also quite fast, but they accept only cash. Rest all a Good experience

Situated in CST, this Irani cafe, among the oldest, is a favorite haunt of mine. I always opt for the keema pav, and on my last visit, I savored their delicious chicken tikka masala. As a food and bar establishment, I paired my meal with Kangaro beer. The nostalgic Irani vibes add to the charm, but do note that this place accepts 'cash only'.

Cafe Military mein vegetarian ke liye kya hi milega? As it turns out, there are a few dishes. And, the man that Sheriar Koshravi is, the dishes aren't merely as token but taste great too! I had their Veg Pulav is superior than the biryani I have had at most places. Also enjoyed their veg dhansak and caramel custard.

Cafe Military is one of those old-school Irani Cafes that will take you back in time. The vibe makes you feel like you're back in the good ol' days. The service too here is old school, where orders are remembered mentally and not noted down. The one server on duty still gets all orders right and serves to all tables and guests politely and efficiently. What we had here was Salli Boti, Kheema Ghotala, Mutton Cutlet Gravy, Kheema Salli, Brain Masala Fry and Dry Mutton Cutlet. Apart from the dry mutton cutlet, all the items came with a side of Pav. We were 3 people and each of the dishes was sufficiently had by each of us. So it's safe to say that the portion sizes are great! Taste-wise as well the food was up to the mark according to me. At Cafe Military, they also have some interesting selection of Beers. You can enjoy your meal with a chilled beer as well. For dessert, we had the caramel custard which is popular at Irani Cafes. I definitely recommend this place, you can enjoy good food with friends and family and also enjoy the vibe around you!.

This is what a Parsi cafe should be, oh my god the food is amazing and the hospitality is just the best. Mr. Rusi Wadia, is a very humble and sweet man who knows his stuff and guides the customer without misleading them. The chicken cutlet with and without curry is to die for and the caramel custard is just out of this world. To top it all off just grab a soda or their suggested drinks. You can't ask for something better. Tasty Economical Amazing hospitality.

A great Iranian cafe of old world charms, mosaic and great food. The service is superb and our waiter was very courteous and knowledgeable in every menu item. My friend had chicken keema pav and I had veg dhansak along with the unmissable Pallonji’s raspberry soda! A great place for some laid back, relaxed old school vibes in the fort area of South Mumbai

This old parsi place is a good place to hang out bear fort, the keema pao is great with simple keema and fresh pao, the service is friendly and quick. Sit back and relax over a cup of tea or coffee. There is no A/c here, so you should enjoy the breeze from the fans .
