💫 Thirsty City 127, at Lower Parel, Mumbai is a craft brewery and cocktail bar. Replacing the legendary “Barking Deer,” one of the first craft breweries in India. The new space improves the beer portfolio, and adds a craft cocktail bar to the space.
📍Located at the end of the alley, in Mumbai, the space is tucked in and barely visible. The studio used the vegetable forms created for the space, using them in frames to tell a story of liquor. Every window is unique, custom-made, and presents the organic element in the aesthetic of the bar; lights in between each light up the various forms, and encourages you to continue on a journey through a crafted space.
🌟 One has to walk past this line of windows, to enter the main bar space. The door is an assemblage of liquid forms that unfolds in layers to reveal a rippled brass handle. Stepping in, a monogram in the floor greets you. The bar hides on the left, walking further in, one enters an intimate space within brewery brewery; copper vessels surround you, and the space is dark. The mood is light, conversation, wafting aromas, the perfect temperature, and music that holds conversation make the atmosphere. Make your way to the bar, or sit down in a chair, designed by the studio and intimately arranged for conversation. A large bar with seemingly unlimited liquor is at the far end of the space. Made of terrazzo with glass chips, brass coasters are in-built to point to a serving area. The bar stools, designed by the studio are perfectly weighted to not topple forwards while getting off. The floor is a tapestry of black limestone and dark terrazzo with coloured stone; brass strips give direction to the space.
🎉 The event space is flexible, and allows for a range of functions, from adding space to the bar, to hosting private events, or a gallery space. Held together by a fluted glass partition on the south, and a set of folded steel planes that make the stairway up to the next floor. A sofa under the stair holds in the north end.
👯♀️ The room above is a private, even more intimate bar that is treated similar to the one on the ground floor. The ceiling above is the night sky. Mirrored panels with small bulbs that light up the space, and are reflected at angles in the ceiling. The space is for private parties, or quiet drinks.
👥 Highlight of their management is that they have one captain assigned to each table throughout the customers presence which helps the customer to easily call the server as and when needed and it also helps the server to know what is the taste of the customer and whats the flow by which they are having their meal & drinks.
▶️ Coming to the F&B we tried :
P.S : This restobar is cocktails centric place , hence they have a wide array of drinks & tap beers thus restricting their food menu to merely 2 pages long.
🥂 Drinks :
🛢️Starting off with their in-house micro brewery brewed beers , we were given 7 sample tasters of the craft beers among which we could taste all of them and can order for the regular full sized glass of the desired beer.
Their craft beer ranges from bitter to sweet & punchier to easy going. In short , they have all kinds of craft beer which can suit every taste buds.
🍺 We went with Thirsty Ninja & Thirsty Lennox , both are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ♥️
They do serve their crafts in the form of bottle beer as well as can. We opted Thirsty Simona Pint & Happy By Thirsty Can.
🍸Amongst all , one of their special highlight is that they have 'Gin & Tonic' on tap. Yes , you heard it right. Also , we have the liberty to choose the botanicals which could enhance our gin & tonic drink from around 6-8 botanical options along with some punchier fruits to add on.
🥃 Getting to their cocktails , All of their cocktails were very punchy , tipsy and easy going drinks. Starting off with :
1. Da Vinci's Code : HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ♥️
A contemporary drink having sous vide vermouth and aniseed liqueur with some dried rose petals , spiked with rice vodka , balanced with citrus and unrefined sugar , flavoured with granny smith juice. The drink was served chilled in Goblet Glass. Very refreshing & easy going!
2. Not So Colada : HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ♥️
A classic progressive light & bubbly version of pina colada with some aromatic feels of pandan leaf , pineapple wine , rum & coconut water. Served chilled in tulip glass.
3. Supermelon :
A refreshing & easy going sipper created with homemade watermelon wine stirred well with fragmented grape juice and served chilled in a wine glass.
🍱 Food :
• To accompany with our beers , we went with a tiny plate category and ordered 'Pan Fried Japanese Rice Cakes'. A nice bed of rice cakes topped with asian style aubergine. Goes really well with the bitter categories of craft beers.
• Later on , tried their 'Hand-tossed Neopolitan style pizza' with topping of oven dried tomato , yellow cheddar , avocado and salsa verde. The crust was truly very delicious and crisp. The toppings were too fresh and the pizza as a whole was mamma mia!
• From their Large Plates , we opted for 'Pasta Aglio Olio' which was served in a cute looking bowl filled with an adequate amount of spaghetti (serves 1) with dressing of shaved parmesan & lemon.
• And finally ending our meal with two of their sweet delicacies , 'Flourless Chocolate Cake' & 'Baked Cheesecake With Caramel'
