Cafe Irani Chaii Our very first experience with the Iranian Cafe in Mumbai was truly a savoured moment that many should experience this Unique culture that has been in Mumbai for years now. Welcome to the first Irani cafe. A bit of a trivia : . Cafe Irani Chaii, owned by filmmaker Dr Mansoor Showghi Yezdi. . The two ‘I’s in chaii which stand for India and Iran. . Filmmaker Dr Mansoor Showghi Yezdi, has built this rich Irani cafe culture and to maintain the friendly ties between Iran and India. .They open early morning at 6am and shut shop at 11pm. Come experience their mirror panelled walls, chequered tablecloths, ornate wooden designs & bentwood chairs & a contented cat purring at the entrance. What we ordered : Bun Maska buns smeared with generous amounts of butter along with the Irani Chai Just take a bite and sip or dip and bite of chai together with bread is one of a kind combination. Mutton Kheema & Pav Deliciously made the kheema is juicy but not with too much gravy. It is dry enough to be savoured with bread (pav). A must have... Mutton white biryani (Sunday special only) The white rice was light and fluffy with flavour, and half a potato on top. The meat was tender the pieces were suffice . The biryani was flavourful with a sort of spice that will leave a memorable delight. Pallonji’s raspberry soda & lemonade soda A sweet soda based on the flavour kinda drink you can have with your meal Chicken lollipop Your usual, deep fried chicken noodles is delicious unique blend of tastes Veg Samosa Nothing exciting The Warm Hospitable Welcome by Mr Ali & his wonderful patient staff added up to a most memorable, savoured moment for me & my family. Overall everything was perfect & i would recommend everyone to experience the iranian delicacies.

It serves great non-veg food which is well within pocket. The portions are also big. We tried keema samosa, keema pao, brun maska, paneer bhurji, chicken lolipop, chicken dhansak and finished it all with Irani Chai. Chicken dhansak has the distinct Irani flavor, it is neither too spicy nor bland. The gravy is thick. Brun maska was a new experience. We were told by the person serving us that it is a 'kadak item' and it was that with maska spread liberally on it. I would love to try this place for breakfast.

I have been a regular at this place and it surprises me every time there is an article about top Irani restaurants without a mention of this place. The food is delicious. Today I was craving their haleem and since it is only available on Fridays I called to check if they have it. The staff informed me that it is not ready and that he will call me to inform when it is. He made sure he did, actually twice, and it speaks volumes about their service. Must try.

I loved the food from here.. It is absolutely fantastic. So much so that I ordered 3 nights in a row from here!

One stand out recommendation is their Irani Classic Chicken Cheese Burger. Perfect balance of superb smoky grilled chicken flavor, delectable cheese, that crunchy but not crispy texture and a real low price- I'd easily pay double for this quality & taste! Beats all burger joints in Bandra hands down!

Other items I tried:

Toast Cheese: 5/5 (Simple, perfect grilled cheese)
Bun Maska: 4.5/5 (consistent brilliance)
Chicken Russian Kebabs: 5/5 (great taste & texture)
Chicken Cutlets: 4.5/5 (great taste & texture)
Chicken Kathi: 4/5 (try it, its like Desi satay)
Scrambled Eggs: 5/5 (International standard)
Masala Fry Chicken Cheese Bhurji: 4/5
Masala Fry Omelette: 4.5/5
Akuri: 4.5/5 (that authentic Bawa taste)

This is easily one of the best discoveries of the lockdown for me. Simple, easy, authentic and real hearty food. I approve and recommend happily 😊

🍨Irani Fereni:A sweet Indian dish of thickened milk, dried fruit, and ground rice, this was the perfect way to end our Irani meal! It was extremely soft and and oh-so-melt-in-your-mouth, served in a traditional earthen bowl.

🍳Akuri (3 eggs) with in-house pav:
It is a spicy scrambled egg dish eaten in the Parsi cuisine of India. Akuri is cooked until almost runny; the eggs are never overcooked. The main flavouring is fried onions and the spices used are ginger, coriander, chopped chilis, and black pepper. Akuri is traditionally eaten with pav or double roti. A different kind of bhurji, once can say, we totally digged it, we're sure you would too!
☕Irani Chai:
Chai isn't a hot beverage for us, it is an emotion! So what is so different about Irani chai as compared to our kadak cutting? Irani chai is a unique form of tea unlike any other version of Indian chai, made by the addition of mawa or khoya to black tea. The result is a sweet and creamy chai, with the obvious addition of spices like cinnamon and green cardamom. A bit too sweet for our tastebuds but we're sure, you'll take a liking to it!

The ambiance here will be a Desi style as it is an old restaurant. It's bit busy every time 🔥😈 😬. The prices here are affordable and cheap.. The above foods are only available for morning breakfast. 1. Egg Akuri
2. Chicken Farcha
3. irani Chaii
This is an small & well litenup cafe out in mahim, with the beautiful ambience it's has an uniqueness in it. As I was alone I ordered Akuri (single egg), Chicken Farcha & Chaii. It was very first time inwas trying out Akuri, it was bit sweet in taste but it was nice. The best part was Chicken Farcha. It was an fried chicken in thin batter, reassembling like an home made KFC but it was juicy & nice. The main part was Chaii...it was a made-up of over boiled milk so it was thick & has an little essence of vanilla in it. I totally recommend this place

Having heard so much of Irani cafes in Mumbai I wanted to experience one myself. A friend took me here and I had a great time. From food to ambience to service everything was exceptional.

We ordered a cheese omlette, mutton keema and chicken irani with bun maska. The omlette was so good and full of cheese. The mutton keema, which is the top seller, was really well prepared but I personally loved the Chicken Irani. It was simply amazing, the flavours were really good with the crunch of caramelized onions.

I would highly recommend this place to people looking for good parsi food.

Best irani tea u can't get anywhere except here. I love irani chai very much and i drink it on regular basis. But when i tasted the tea from here i was amazed. So authentic and pure irani tea to have here. And not forget about other stuffs you can have for breakfast like anda bhurji pav, kheema pav and many for. I tried kheema pav which was quite satisfying then any other. The best part is that they make their own pav(bread) which is quite different from normal pav. The pav was very smooth, soft and fluffy which i loved the most to eat.The ambience of the hotel is also good with retro wooden touch. The service is also good and fast.
orders:
kheema pav

overall was a good experience to have breakfast here. love to come another morning to binge breakfast here. Thank you.

This place is a gem 💎 ❤
What do you hate the most about general Iconic Irani cafes?
Rusty Unhygienic Place & Non courteous staff!!
But this place doesn't only have the bestest of all Irani food but is also sparkling clean and has super courteous & friendly staff.
If you are a foodie you just cannot miss on their lip-smacking Irani Chicken generously topped with fried onion.
Do ask for their special Black Pepper Chicken Rice which is not on the menue.
Their Mutton Kheema is the best I have ever had in any Irani cafes. Not too oily/ liquidy & not very salty.
Galouti Kebabs are worth a try.
We visited this place to have their special Haleem which is made only on Fridays but it was over by the time we reached.
I am surely going to visit this place many more times to explore each & every item on their menue including the daily special dishes.

I was introduced to this gem by a dear friend and a fellow foodie sometime last year. Today was my third breakfast at Cafe Irani and as usual it was outstanding!

Must haves here
• Egg cheese omelet
• Anda burjee
• Akuri
• Kheema paav
• Bun maska and chaii

All of the above are widely available. Thus, I would not get into explaining what each dish tastes like. However, what makes Cafe Irani Chaii special is that they make all of them exceedingly well!

A small, neat cafe with courteous staff. Service is super quick. I am giving them plus points for accomodating a wash basin in one corner and maintaining it spotlessly clean.

Each table has the menu on it below the glass surface. Menu has clear instructions and offers written like 26% off on 26 January and 15% on Independence day. Going by that logic, on Christmas 25% off should be given. 😛 Nonetheless, we got a 10% discount on our breakfast. 5 of us had a hearty one in ₹1,000. Absolute value for money.

Go soon to make any meal merry!

I always have the masala omelette which is always cooked to perfection. Never burned or overly brown. The bun maska and brun maska is full of delicious butter. The Irani chai is yummy and light with lemon. I tried the masala fry omelette too. It’s delicious. I want to try the chicken biryani and berry pulao here. I keep coming back for more always. Irani Cafe’s are quintessential to Mumbai. More importantly, when someone thinks of the word ‘Bombay’, one cannot think beyond an Irani joint. The staples at an Irani joint? Irani Chai, Bun Maska and Kheema Pao. The Iranians who moved to India brought their cusine with them, and added to the diverse culinary experience in India.
What defines an Iranian joint? It should look really, really and I enunciate on the REALLY part here - Old. Shabby, with old wooden chairs and tables with old paintings. Honestly, at a time when everyone has upgraded their place, Irani Cafe’s haven’t. Yes there is Sodabottle Openerwala or even Jumjoji, but both are restaurants rather than Cafe. At this very Niche opening, Cafe Irani Chaii comes in like a maska and a breeze of fresh air. Sadly it is extremely tiny, but my, the food is out of the world. I have been to a few Irani joints like Britannia, Kyani’s, Koolar, etc. but the food here is outstanding. The service is quick and the owner is helpful and friendly.

Here is what I ordered:

Breakfast

Akuri (5/5): This was the first time that I had this dish in my life. Now I have really high standards for an Akuri anywhere I go. Smooth and Velvety, this was like drink some rich, creamy egg that was melting in my mouth. If someone now asks me, 'how I want my eggs?’ I am going to say Akuri.

House Pao (5/5): This was served with all the dishes, and literally it’s the best Pao I have had. It is soft and really epitomizes how bread should be. I have grown up eating bread from City Bakery, but these guys will definitely give them a run for their money and even win the crown. However, they don’t sell it commercially. So when we asked them to give us a few loaves to take him, their were more than happy to do that as an exception. Guess they liked us 🙂

Kheema Ghotala (5/5): Another outstanding dish. Just weeks prior, I tried the Kheema at Kyani and I was disappointed. I mean, I did cycle 10km early in the day, just so I built up an appetite for a breakfast there. Little did I know, the best Kheema was being served 6km away. The Kheema here melts in your mouth, but still has a nice bite to it. The seasoning is perfect. You have to eat it to believe it.

Bun Maska (4.5/5): Already complimented the amazing bread, but now with some maska. I can definitely eat this all day, every day. Dip this in some Irani Chai, and look out the window when it is raining - Heaven.

Bun Maska Jam (4/5): I got this after my meal, just so I could eat more of the Bun Maskas. The jam took me back to my childhood.

Bun Maska Honey (4/5): This is a great combination. I think the Iran’s have their sweets on the spot.

Brun Pao (3/5): I am not a big fan of brun Pao, so my rating is biased. However, the people who swear by it loved this one. Considering the quality of the other dishes, I am sure Brun Pao aficionados will go crazy for this one too.

Chicken and Cheese Omelet (2/5): The weakest dish of the day. This was just an omelet stuffed with cheese and chicken. Seasoning could have been better. Be warned, this is a heavy dish and there are definitely better dishes you can order for.

Irani Chai (3/5): I was disappointed that dish the cafe is name after was disappointing. It wasn’t terrible, but after the high standards set by the other dishes, this one didn’t raise any bar.

Dinner:

The breakfast was so good, that we decided to order Dinner from here as well. Ordering in from here was a great decision!

Irani Chicken (5/5): If you love caramelized onions and melt-in-the-mouth chicken, then you have to try this dish. This was rich, the gravy was scrumptious and I couldn’t stop myself from lapping this one up.

Chicken 99 (5/5): This is supposed to be one of the best-seller's here. It’s sort of like a sweet-ish fired chicken. Perfect as an appetizer, on the lines of a chicken crispy. Another outstanding dish of the day.

White Mutton Biryani (3/5): Underwhelming. It was a bit dry, although the flavors were great. I really had high expectations from this one, but hey, you can’t win them all.

Bread Pudding (4/5): The surprise dish. Bread pudding at most places is just about all right, but this one really hit the spot. It wasn’t heavy, but It had a nice dense texture. As mentioned before, the bread here is outstanding, so no wonder it translated into this dish too.

Ambience: 3/5 The place is really tiny, so it can get really cramped up. They have done a good job of trying to keep the old school irani cafe vibes alive, but you feel like you are in a high-end udipi joint rather than an irani joint.

Service: 5/5 Very quick. The manager at the desk was really helpful with the dishes, and made sure we didn’t over order. Important for someone like me who tends to order the menu.

Recommendations: Irani Chicken, Akuri, Kheema Ghotala, Bread Pudding, In-house bread

Overall: 4.5/5
If you want to eat high quality Irani food at a reasonable price, then look no further. I would love to spend every Sunday morning here for a scrumptious breakfast.

Note: The place is tiny and especially crowded on Sundays, so be wary when you get here. We had to wait for 20-25mins for a table for 3. But they are really quick to get you seated, and very accommodating.

I have great connections with Cafe Irani. Dr Mansoor is a dear friend from Zoroashtrian college, winner of numerous awards and accolades. I studied in Canossa High School, just opposite the Cafe. The bun maskas are so soft and tasty, they are heavenly. Chai is out of this world. Ambience is superb. All must visit at least once in a lifetime.

A really small outlet at Mahim is a definite entry on any Persian food checklist. Not restricted to a breakfast or your two meals, one can visit it at any time of the day and dip their Brun in the famous Irani Chicken. The Chicken Russian Kebab would be definitely qualify as a repeat order. The meal would be completed with a delish Irani Custard.

PS. It wouldn't be really cozy for a group of over 4 as you'd be allotted separate tables.

This place has undoubtedly become one of my go to places. I have loved each and every item I've ever tried from here. For chai lovers, their irani chai is a must have. The only down side is that they have very limited seating and you'll have to wait to get seated.

True Irani Cafe Vibes!

Randomly visited this irani cafe for a Sunday lunch on a rainy day, all the way to Mahim from Andheri. But no complaints, because it was totally worth it!

Definitely try the Irani chai and Pestonjii sodas they have, it's bomb! The caramelized onions topped on the biryani and Irani chicken, nailed it!

Ambience - 3.5/5
Food and Taste - 4/5
Service - 4/5
Overall experience - 4/5

Will definitely visit this cafe again :)

It is very nice Irani cafe that serves all different types of Irani dishes. Irani dishes are a combination of Irani cuisine, Persian cuisine and indian cuisine. This is a nice restaurant located in Mahim with an amazing ambience . This is an amazing place to have the authentic Irani dishes and most importantly the Irani chai. Every person must try the Irani chai here, it is amazing. The Irani chai along with the bun maska is just an icing on the cake. They also serve various unique sodas, the one which I tried was the vanilla icecream soda.

A small but busy place in the quiet lanes of Matunga. Went with high expectations and they didn't disappoint me. A must try place. I had their Mutton Kheema Pav (2 pav is sufficient for one plate of Kheema), Signature chicken cheese burger, Mutton galauti kebab, Double egg Masala fry chicken cheese bhurji (must have), Irani chai and the infamous Pallongis Raspberry soda.

One of the oldest Irani cafe located in Mahim Mumbai. Walking distance from mahin local station. Area is little congested but they maintain cleaneless and pure Irani vibe. I tried bun muska , bread pudding and cheese omelet, test was good only bun muska is more delicious.

Pallonji's Soda, bun maska, Irani chai, akuri, keema pav, life's good. It was like you were in the 1980s again. Ambience still keeps up the rustic feel. Chai is typical Irani style. Won't be disappointed.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting cafe Irani chaii, a charming Irani cafe located in the heart of Mahim. From the moment I stepped inside, I was transported to a bygone era with its vintage decor, checkered tablecloths, and old-world charm. The cafe had a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely breakfast or an afternoon tea. The menu was filled with a variety of traditional Irani delicacies, and I was eager to try them all. I started my culinary journey with a classic Irani chai paired with freshly baked bun maska (bread and butter). The chai was rich, aromatic, and had just the right amount of sweetness. The soft, buttery bun was the perfect accompaniment, and I savored every bite. For my main course, I opted for their mutton kheema pao. The flavors were balanced, and the meat was exceptionally tender. It was a true delight for my taste buds. The service was friendly and attentive. The staff members were knowledgeable about the menu and provided helpful recommendations. They took the time to explain the history behind the dishes, adding to the overall experience. The only reason I didn't give a full five-star rating was the limited vegetarian options on the menu. While they did have a few vegetarian dishes, it would be great to see more variety and options for non-meat eaters. Overall, my experience at Irani chaii was delightful. The combination of delicious food, nostalgic ambiance, and excellent service made it a memorable visit. If you're in Mumbai and looking to experience authentic Irani cuisine in a charming setting, Irani chaii is definitely worth a visit.

This place is located close to Mahim station. This is one of my favourite spots. I often visit for chai and bun maska. That's my all time favourite here. The buns are soft and nice and they are very fresh. The chai literature melts your taste buds. It is quite on an expensive end but totally worth it.

The Sodas are a bit sweet , don't order unless you are eating it with something spicy. Chai is good as per Irani chai standards. PS: Veg food is not much , only bun maska is good, non veg is fine

Cafe Irani Chaii is a very old Irani cafe. In spite of being so old it is very clean This has a very nice ambiance with very tasty and hygienic food. The interior of the cafe is fully covered with parallel mirrors giving an infinite reflection. The staff's behaviour was very good and the service was also quite fast.

This is a quintessential Irani cafe with the best irani chai and awesome bun muska. The ambience and lighting is old school and transports you back to the 60s. hidden in the middle of Mahim this cafe has a capacity of 20-25 people with 4 tables and quick service. Must try : the Masala Cheese Chicken Bhurji with Icecream soda.
