I have been to Soma on 15th June to celebrate my wifes birthday with my friend and the experience wasn't bad thought few things did not meet with the expectations
We have ordered paneer tikka masala, Nihari gosht, veg pulao and haryali king fish. The Nihari gosht was remarkable, I had Nihari gosht many places but this one was the best of all time
But apart from Nihari gosht nothing impressed me well.
Paneer tikka masala was tasting too sweet and even texture wasn't saying to call it panner tikka, in fish salt was the reason to make it insipid.
Service stood amazing throughout the time, server was really nice and polite.......serving with great manner of hospitality😊😊
Complimentary cake has been offered to my wife for her birthday to make the eve memorable, was really a appreciated gesture from the hotel team

Cheers

Thanks

The Ambience is okish not so bad, it's quite place to hang around..they have very few listings in their menu and you cannot expect much favorable dishes over here instead I would prefer try Celini it would be a very good option. Service & hospitality was good as well.

Best to have few Indian dishes at Soma.

Thanks

Was there at a wedding and had some free time ,went for a beer. Good ambience, quick service and chilled beer. They served us some chips, and peanuts as bitings.
Both were stale and tasteless. A place where a glass of beer is not very easy on the pocket should not serve such accompaniments..
Over all a good 60 minutes spent at Soma.

A humongous place located in the lobby of Hyatt. Quite moving and noisy. However the decor and set up is royal and good. The crockery used is that of typical Indian style but in a modern way. Silver plates and spoons, food served in napkins.
Food -
Ordered for basic comfort food. An extremely generous plate of papad and onions come before your food arrives. Oh I swear by onions so it’s the perfect start to a meal for me.
*Pindi Chole* - it’s good. Quantity is decent to suffice to 2-3 people. Not very heavy on the masalas it’s a light tasty dish to call for.

*Dal Tadka* - Absolutely demolished it. It’s really good and comforting. Again light on the spices but made very well. Accompanied the chole well.

Butter Naan and Garlic Naan comes in 3 parts. It’s huge so I suggest call for one portion finish it and then get more hot ones as they are heavy with big pieces to finish.

It’s a bit heavy on the pockets nonetheless service is quick and food is comforting.

Navaratri - is a multi day Hindu festival celebrated in autumn every year. Observed for different reasons and celebrated differently all over India. This Year the festival began on 21st Sept and Ends Today 29th Sept 2017. During this 9 days there are people do observe a certain Diet (Can't call It fasting) but do not eat certain ingredients in their daily food.

Hyatt - Soma has a special Meal curated by the chef for these 9 days which I happen to Taste yesterday. They call it "Navratri Meal as good as Prayer" (Navratri Bhog at Soma) Priced at Rs 1100 inclusive of all taxes which is a steal. Completely vegetarian without onion/Garlic yet the taste was outstanding. Unfortunately It ends today (29th slept) If you happen to get a chance please Visit Soma in the evenings as this is Open for Dinner only.

Known as NAVRATRI (BHOG) here is what we had :

---------------------------------------------------------

Started with: Kuttu Ke Aate ki Bhajia (Normally we relate Kuttu ke Aate ki Khichdi) Bhajia was something different. Crispy deep fried Buckwheat flour batter. Tasted good.

Haryali Seekh Kebab - spinach (am a bit surprised if spinach can be had during the festival) but in some regions of India they do. Cloved Flavoured Spinach with mix vegetables. Nice texture and balance in taste.

Salad: Tandoori sakarkand Chaat (sweet Potato) loved the tangy touch, well Tandoored. Pomegranate Raita - was just perfect. Simple.

Mains: Now this had a variety which one would love trying.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Paneer Methi ki Kadi - lovely texture. A bit tangy (Request this should be in the regular menu as well) Rich. Fenugreek flavoured cottage cheese with buckwheat flour in yogurt gravy. Spices were good balanced it well. Loved it.

Jeera Aloo - always a part of this celebration - simple cumin tampered potato. No rocket science. Yet had that lovely taste and flavour.

Turai Tamatar Masala - A semi Dry dish made from Ridge guard with tomato gravy and a bit of home spices. Homemade preparation. It feels like Ghar ka Khana.

Kachhe Kale ki Subzi - again a must Ingredient in this festival - had a good punch. Takes you to southern India. Curry leaves tampered raw banana with tomato and coconut gravy. One can't figure out the raw banana. Lovely.

Methi Matar Makhana - Loved this. Texture taste way of making. Simple yet had the punch. It's all about balancing fenugreek/lotus seeds and green peas in rich cashew gravy with spices. Not over powering but good.

Ghar Wali bhindi - I am not a Bhindi person but liked it. Not sticky (My partner said it's how we make it home - Ghar ka Khana) Simple dish ladies finger with tomato gravy- semi dry.

Aloo and Sabudana Ki Khichdi - all time favourite. This was made well. No Oil. SAGO (it's an art not to make it sticky) Potato combination is the right way making this dish. A bit of Mustard/Green Chilli/Cashew/curry leaves. Has that slight punch and flavour. Lovely dish.

Masoor Ki Dal (Again this was tricky) if Masoor can be a part of the festival. Made well found it a tad high on salt. Texture wise looked good. Whole red lentils with cumin/Carom seeds and tomato. Goes well with the Puri.

For the Breads they made - Kuttu Ki puri, Buckwheat flour bread fried.

Desserts - Dudhi Halwa (wow) ghee, rich, aroma, flavour balance, got it perfect. Bottle Gourd preparation. Lovely

Sabudana Kheer - Sago Milk Pudding, lovely texture. Saffron touch. Aromatic. Not sweet. Perfect dessert (My choice)

Last but not the least - Chaas (masala) had the punch. Jeera/Chilli/masala/Ghee. Loved the tadka. Fantastic.

Overall - My Thoughts - Price @ 1100 all inclusive - It's a steal. Menu changes each Day (Unfortunately today is the last day) this is the first year Soma has introduced Bhog festival. Hope they continue each year. Food Preparation - The chef has kept it simple. Feels Like Home food. Quantity is perfect.

Do Try and catch up if you get a chance today. If Not Bookmark it for Next year. This is GOOD.

Soma, the specialty Indian restaurant at Grand Hyatt Mumbai is hosting a ‘Thali Festival’. This itself was enough to intrigue me since ‘thali’, one of my favourites is not usually found in large hotels. Literally meaning ‘plate’ a ‘thali’ in the food world is a one-plate-meal consisting of multiple items.

Visited this place during our emergency stay at the Grand Hyatt owing to the Mumbai floods.
Right from our check in the staff was overly courteous and helpful.
The F&B services Asst. Mngr Prashant was kind enough to make due arrangements of food for our chauffeur..
We dined at the Soma.
The entire hotel was bustling with ppl who were there as a stop gap arrangement until they could go home. Inspite of the hustle and bustle their service was impeccable. We were told that the staff was working overtime due to rains and breakdown of transport.
Wrt food.. We ordered stuffed Tandoori Mushrooms, Aloo Parantha, and Ajmeri Kofta Curry..
The dishes were well spiced.. The mushrooms were well stuffed and tandoor'ed.. The portion size was huge for the two of us to finish.. The Koftas were well proportioned and cooked.. The curry was mildly spiced and perfectly flavoured.. The parantha was soft and well stuffed..
But my brownie points go to the hospitality and swiftness in service, which was amazing given the fact that the staff was overworked too..

Being in the hotel and restaurant business, the unsaid rule is that you have to be good with your food offerings, but what differentiates Hyatt is the experience it offers. Right from the first step into the hotel till your come out again, utmost care, attention and flawless service is what the team offers.

Such was my visit on the Independence day to Soma in Grand Hyatt. The place was hosting an event 'Grand Thali'. Full marks to their marketing team who were flooding the social media with the mouth-watering thali pictures and a value for money offering at just Rs. 999. Yes, a five star property in Mumbai offering such meals with unlimited offerings at that price all inclusive.

The thali spread was such wide and filling that I understood from their in-house team that it was just one person who had completed the entire thali offering during the entire Grand Thali event.

Coming to the food, there were veg and non-veg thali offerings at the restaurant. The veg offerings had 2 Indian appetizers served with pickles and mint dip (chutney) followed by 4 main vegetables, 2 dals (white curry and yellow dal), 4 desserts and yoghurt offerings. This was accompanied with 3 different assortment of Indian breads (rotis and puris) and Gatte ka pulav (Rajashtani styled marinated rice). Did i miss the delicious masala buttermilk topped witu mint leaves in it. The food tasted as it freshly made few minutes back and directly served in our plates.

The non-veg thali was no different in offering its never ending spread. The famous item in their offering was 'Laal Maas'.

The staff was very cordial in taking good care of the guests and checking regularly if we needed anything.

Over and above the thali, the place is also known for its 'paan' kulfi which is served with gulkand. MUST MUST TRY for someone who has a taste for it.

The place is definitely worth a visit. Keep a tap on yhe events happening in this restaurant so that one doesnt miss such scrumptious meal events.

In all a perfect 5/5 overall experience,

Food - 5.0/5.0
Service - 5.0/5.0
Value for Money - 5.0/5.0

The concept of Thali meal is a culture in itself that was originated in India, which gained popularity in Nepal and Bangladesh later.

One cannot perfectly describe a proper Thali, as each region creates their own custom Thalis with use of local ingredients in dishes.

The idea behind a Thali is to offer all the 6 different flavors of sweet, salt, bitter, sour, astringent and spicy on one single plate.

Based on similar lines, Soma at Grand Hyatt Mumbai has introduced a grand Thali Feast as part of their menu. The Thali depicts the taste of Rajasthan, with the freshest of ingredients and a few spices that are imported from the land of Royals, straight to our plates!

The typical vegetarian Rajasthani Thali consists of the following:
1 Glass Masala Chhaas
Appetizers (Dhokla, Khandvi, Patra, Samosa)
Salads
5 types of Vegetables
1 bowl Curry and Dal
Ghee Bhaat
Breads (rotla, puri, thepla)
Desserts

For Non Vegetarians, the Thali has a lovely addition of Laal Maas and Methi Murgh. The Laal Maas gravy is a perfectly cooked melange of spices with tender meat, that's aromatic and eye-pleasing.

We were really impressed with the spread, specially since adequate emphasis was given to non-vegetarian dishes as well.

Our favorites from the Thali-
Laal Maas, Sev Tamatar, Batata Nu Saak, Gujarati Kadhi, & Dal Punchmel. Apart from these, the Rotla and Methi Thepla tasted excellent along with Lasun Mirch Khurchan.

We ended with traditional, mouth-watering dessert varieties viz. Moong Dal Halwa and Rabdi with Malpua. The Moong Dal Halwa, being made in Desi Ghee smelled like heaven and the Rabdi with Malpua was so good; that we were on a sugar high!

Pro tip: Save enough space in your tummies for these decadent desserts.

So, if you're a fan of Thalis and have a large appetite, then this week Soma is definitely the place to be at.

The prices are extremely reasonable and all inclusive of tax:
Veg Thaali- INR 999/-
Non Veg Thaali- INR 1111/-

To shake things up, they've also curated a cocktail & mocktail menu that suits well with the meal.
Local ingredients such as Cinnamon, Kacchi Kairi, Cucumber, Paan, Jaljeera, etc. are used.

The Grand Thali Feast at Soma is on until 23rd July, 2017. So rush, before it ends!

When I think Grand Hyatt, China House and Celini are top of mind recall and Soma ends up at the bottom of their F&B offering. This is certainly my opinion based on the communication happening for the former on all media outlets. Perhaps ‘Soma is already doing well and doesn’t need any marketing’ must be the hotel’s line of thought we analysed after tasting their food over whiskies.
I experienced Chef Vinod Rana’s cooking on Father’s day as he forth a menu to pair Indian single malt whiskies from the house of Paul John. The food from the tandoor was Smoky yet elegant, the veg seek crumbly yet moist and the mutter tikki stuffed with cheese had the softness of galouti but the mushy pea graininess remained. The aragula salad with pomegranate seeds was a great complement. The mains with a mild saffron-scented paneer was delightful with the sheermal and so did the birista (fried onions) topped wild rice with the rich black dal. You definitely have to go to quality restaurants for food experiences like these. Perhaps ‘Soma is already doing well and doesn’t need any marketing’ must be the hotel’s line of thought we analysed after tasting their food over whiskies.
We ended with sweet spice laden Bibinka fritters paired with a slightly peated but sweet malt. Soma is a gem at the Grand Hyatt, watch for their set-meal promotions from time to time ;they are a steal. This was priced at Rs 2750 per head inclusive of the whiskies.

Ambiance and service of Soma was great ..... however I found it difficult to find something that really appealed to me from the menu and that while the food could not be faulted I left feeling unsatisfied with my meal. Soma by Grand Hyatt at santacruz.
Been thier a full family dinner of 23 people. Soma serves north indian food & the food is amazing. The best we enjoyed is thier veg Shrek kabab ( starter ) excellent taste & very well cooked, in indian bread ( roti ) the crushed ajwain Paratha & the saffrani Paratha what a amazing taste just cannot resist having one. Your stomach get overloaded but still feel like having one more. Hats off the chef for delivering such amazing food & spoiling our habit of eating more then required.
Two things that disappointed me / us is ...
First : Their is no soup in the offering, hope they would add the same in future for sure.
Second : I order for a cold coffee which I feel really sorry to say that it was really horrible with no taste & flavour at all. ( May that was my bad luck for that particular day / order ) as usually the coffee at such high end place are always amazing as they have the best coffee possible.
Rest it was a great evening for all of us to be Thier at soma for dinner & we all enjoyed at the best.
Special thanks to the CHEF for preparing such wounderful & tasty food.

I barely step out for Indian food. But for some, I definitely would. The quality of food here is excellent! The daal makhani is the best in town, and the chicken tikka is heavenly(spicy though in case you can't handle spicy food). Love the food here. However, the butter chicken is not the best, and wish they did ace it, cause the combination of daal makhani, butter chicken, and chicken tikka is the best! :)

This is one place I will remember more for the service then the food!! Of course the food was really amazing.. but then the service went above & beyond the call of duty.. My husband had forgotten to carry his reading glasses & so was finding it difficult to go thru the menu, our server (can't recall his name 🤔) without any kind of prompting from our side got a pair of glasses.. I had ordered for a glass of Jaljeera.. it wasn't bad but not amazing either.. realising that something was amiss.. this gentleman changed the drink.. again without any kind of complaint from my end.. This place will be special to me.. coz it reinstated the fact if your food is good & you train your staff to be attentive.. you have winner in hand.. gimmicks.. fusion food all take a back seat..

A sad perception that most people have about Bengali cuisine is that everything is sweet or happens to be fish. Their knowledge is quite limited and hence I’m so glad the city encourages such food festivals that bring to light the authentic cooking styles and flavours of the various dishes that they are proud to own.

The ‎#MahaBanglaBhoj festival has a menu that chefs Partha Roy and Amit Mondal from Kolkata have specially designed and allow you to savour all the traditional favourites in true Bengali style.

Bengalis love their food, there’s no doubt about that. Unfortunately, I happened to be vegetarian so my options were narrowed down to just a few dishes but I thoroughly enjoyed them.

Started off with the Narkeler Bora which are golden fried coconut patties. Found them to be a bit too oily but extremely flavourful and very tasty. Definitely a must have!

For main course, the Alu Posto (Potato cooked with poppy seed gravy) and Chenar Dalna (Cottage cheese dumpling cooked in onion cashew nut gravy) is an absolute delight and goes well with the traditional Loochi (Deep fried refined flour bread)

If you have an extremely sweet tooth, then do not miss out on the Manolova nalen gurer malpua (Fennel flavoured refined flour dumpling soaked in seasonal famous date jaggery syrup) and Rossogolla (Poached cottage cheese dumpling in sugar syrup) that will keep you wanting for more.

Also do not miss out on their typical street food “Jhaalmuri” that comes from the Indian chaat family and their long list of dishes for all you meat lovers such as Dab chingri (Tiger prawns cooked in tender coconut shell), Galda chingri malai curry (Scampi cooked in onion, coconut and cashew nut gravy), Kasha mangsho (Traditional lamb shank preparation), Bekti paturi (Whole grain mustard marinated bekti fish filet stea) and Katla kalia (Fish on bone cooked with onion and tomato gravy)

(The author was asked to review the festival. However, the views of the author remain unbiased and are completely her own.)

SAVOUR THE TRADITIONAL BENGALI CUISINE @ GRAND HYATT, MUMBAI

The laughter, the pain, the memories of Calcutta, the place I know since childhood and those memories will never fade. In every street, you will find something unique and be it food, people, culture etc is what will make you smile and that’s why it is known as the City of Joy.Once upon a time in Calcutta my old friend Debdas Chatterjee invited me to his wedding but somehow I couldn’t make it since I had late night flight to Bombay. The only regret I had I couldn’t attend the Bengali wedding. It was not just the wedding but I surely missed the traditional Bengali food. Trust me it's more than the machi-bhat and rosogulla.

What I love about Bengali food is their use of Panchphoron. Its ideal mixture of five vital flavors, in particular, mustard, fenugreek seed, cumin seed, aniseed, and dark cumin seed. The forte of Bengali cuisine lies in the ideal blend of sweet and fiery flavors. For Bengalis, food is an essential part of their lives. Last week I was invited for Food tasting @ Grand Hyatt for Maha Bangla Bhoj Festival. I was thrilled when I got the mail and I couldn’t say no this time since it was happening in Mumbai. I met my old food bloggers at the dining.

Chef Partha warmly greeted us at the door. Let me tell you he came all the way from Kolkata to serve the traditional Bengali food at this fest. We started off with Chaas (Buttermilk ) given in rustic clay cup. It was refreshing drink and got a mild taste. Chef Partha paid attention to each preparation and explained us the preparation and few tips on Bengali food. One huge thali ( earthen plate) where everything is served, this is the tradition in Bengalis they eat everything in one plate (starters, main course, desserts )

Appetizers we had NARKELER BORA, Its is basically a patties with coconut fillings. Its was rich, golden color and perfect to start with. A delight for vegetarians.

For the Main course we tasted ALU POSTO, the name intrigued me and I asked Chef about the how the dish is prepared. Its potatoes cooked in a mustard gravy and can have it with steam rice or loochi (puri).I would say Quintessential Alu Posto. Next in line was CHENAR DALNA, Its perfect blend of paneer and cashew nut and onion gravy. Its one of my favorite dish till date. It makes the good combination with rice. It’s lip smacking dish.

Bengali food will never end without the sweets. We were served MANOLOVA NALEN GURER. It is basically malpua served in date jaggery syrup. If you’re a malpua fan, you will definitely love this one. It really makes you craving for more. Bengali sweets cant end without rosogulla. Its soft, perfect sugar syrup mixed well and true Bengali style what I use to eat in Kolkatta.

Come and experience the joy and relish the traditional Bengali cuisine and have the delicious feast with your family.

Those of you who have read about my cooking session post with Chef Parth from Grand Hyatt special Bengali Cuisine fest, already know that this Maha Bangla Bhoj is on right upto 24th Feb and here is why you should drop there asap with your loved ones if you haven’t already. Bengali Cuisine at its best – This has to be by far the best Bengali Cuisine I have ever tasted with Chef Parth looking over the dishes personally. He has been flown down from Kolkata to whip up these delicacies.

Maha Bangla Bhoj at Grand Hyatt!

I love to eat out! (Surprise, surprise :P). More than that, what I love is eating all kinds of food from everywhere in the world. I believe in the fact that food is the purest form of Art and any kind of Art, from anywhere in the world has its own distinct identity which is synonymous and attributable to the place where it originates from.

Until very recently, Bengali food for me (as I am sure is for many of you’ll), was limited to Rasgulla & Mishti Dahi. But, when I received an invite from Grand Hyatt i decided to dig deeper into this cuisine and it was so unbelievably fascinating to see and read about the beautiful art that is this cuisine!

Before I write about my experience, there are 2 VERY IMPORTANT things you must know about Bengali cuisine:

Its ROSOGULLA and not Rasgulla….

Its Mishti DOHI and not Misti Dahi….

Any kind of invite from Grand Hyatt excites me…. Why? The food festivals and any kind of celebrations at Grand Hyatt are something you would not want to miss. The tiniest detail to the grandest display, everything is unrealistically sublime. The Bengali Food festival was no less.

Chef Partha, from Grand Hyatt (Kolkata) has been specially flown down to our very own Mumbai for this special Maha Bangla Bhoj. What I personally love about this whole idea of doing Indian regional food festivals is that a lot of foreign guests at the Hotel attend this festival and learn the very crucial fact that Indian food is not just Butter Chicken. Indian food has such a quantum of variety and it needs to be celebrated in a grand way or you could say – the GRAND HYATT way :)

There is a huge variety of distinctly flavored food that is being offered at the Maha Bangla Bhoj at Grand Hyatt. At the media dinner which was hosted for the food bloggers, we got a sneak peak of some of the very best Bengali dishes that they are offering in their menu.

We started off with a refreshing drink of Chaas (Buttermilk) served in a rustic earthen glass. As the starters were ready to be served, we were informed by Chef Partha that, though we were being served all the dishes one by one, according to Bengali customs, there is no differentiation between starters, main course and dessert in the sense that everything that is to be eaten for that meal is served in one huge Thaal (plate).

For starters, we had the Narkeler Bora (Veg) and Murgir Pathisapta (Non Veg).

The Narkeler Bora are basically patties with a coconut stuffing, deep fried to perfection. The patties were fried to a perfect golden and the stuffing was just so very rich and luscious. This is a delight to eat for everyone who likes coconut in their food. I do!

The Murgir Pathisapta is a very fine and delicate crepe made from rice flour, stuffed with some aromatic and flavorful chicken mince. Every bite is melt in the mouth and is Highly Recommended.

We tried a huge variety of Main dishes after stuffing ourselves with multiple helpings of the starters. The main dishes that we tasted were “Betki Paturi” ( the Mustard marinated BETKI fish filet steak), “Alu Posto”(Potatoes cooked in mustard gravy), “Chenar Dalna” (Paneer in a cashew & onion thick gravy) and “Kasha Mangsho” (Lamb in traditional bengali spices) along with some “Loochi” (almost like tiny Bhature).

Out of all these delectable dishes, my favorites were the Kasha Mangsho and the Chenar Dalna. The Lamb was succulent and perfectly slow cooked in Bengali spices making it a melt in the mouth consistency and was like a dream combination with the hot and crispy Loochis that were being served to us. The Paneer was extremely rich but irresistibly brilliant and for someone like me who loves a little sweetness in their gravies, was a treat to eat!

Everyone loves desserts. People who say they don’t are lying! Well, Bengali’s love their desserts X 10!!!! I mean, its not a Bengali meal unless you have some substantial Dessert!

For Dessert, we were served the “Manolova Nalen Gurer Malpua” which is basically a Malpua served in a jaggery syrup. Though delicious, this was a little too sweet for me and i decided to stop at one bite of this, partly because I knew the “Rosogulla” was coming. Rosogulla is my weak point and in this case was my “judgement dish”. The Rosogulla prepared by Chef Partha was absolutely perfect in all senses. Perfectly sweet, perfectly chewy and perfectly Bengali.

Apart from all the variety of food, there is going to be a live counter for “Jhaalmuri” which is the Bengali version of our Bhel with the addition of some mustard oil. (Yes, they love their mustard!)

The Maha Bangla Bhoj by Grand Hyatt is a hearty effort by the hotel to celebrate the beauty that is Bengali Cuisine. This food festival has been curated with a lot of love and passion and it shows in the food that is served.

The festival is on at Soma, Grand Hyatt (Mumbai) for dinner only till the 24th of February, 2016. I highly recommend that you try this out and appreciate the initiative taken by Grand Hyatt, irrespective of whether you are Bengali or not.

Food – the true ethos of a Bengali

Bengali Dinner at Grand Hyatt – Food Review

“There is no sincerer love than the love of food”, that’s what we all have read and remember as having said by George Bernard Shaw. But any average Bengali would swear by these words.

Right through my childhood days when I had many Bengali friends, one thing that I had learnt and can say with conviction about Bengalis is that they do not eat to live, rather they live to eat.

So, when I was invited for a Bengali dinner at the Soma Restaurant of the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai, I gladly agreed because I knew that this is one night I would be able to live the grand life of a Bengali.

Bengalis are generally known to argue on random facts of life, but when it comes to food and politics, they all surely have a common point of view. As a Bengali for the evening, I too did not have any arguments on the food that was served.

Appetizers:

I started off with Narkeler Bora, the deep fried coconut patties. The Patties are made of freshly grated coconut mixed with onion, green chilli, salt and sugar and mixed with refined flour for binding.

On the non-veg front, I was served the Murgir Pathisapta which is a chicken mince wrap. The chicken is cooked in a paste of onion, tomato, garam masala, cumin seed powder and onion seeds and a dash of egg and salt and then minced and stuffed in a rice crepe and pan fried.

Main Course:

Though Bangalis are predominantly non-vegetarians, dinner menu had a great variety of vegetarian fare to savour our palates. The first to be served was Alu Posto, which are baby potatoes cooked with poppy seed paste and turmeric and green chilli for the gravy.

The curry served was a bit sweet to my palate though I later understood that the average Bengali cuisine has that slight sweetish tinge along with the spiciness. Chenar Dalna that I had is cottage cheese dumpling cooked in a onion-tomato and cashew nut gravy with a fair amount of sugar added for sweetness.

I was quite comfortable getting back to the non-veg wagon as the Betki Paturi, the Betki fish filet steak marinated in whole grain mustard and green chilli and steamed to perfection in banana leaf, just melted in my mouth.

I had known that mutton has a reasonable share of popularity in the Bengali platter and so I was eagerly awaiting the Kasha Mangsho. This traditional lamb shank preparation is the Bengali variant of the north Indian Bhuna Gosht fried in mustard oil till light brown and well done and then cooked in a garam masala gravy.

No Indian meal is over without the rice, dal and the bread and so for me there was Cholar Dal, the bengal gram lentils cooked with coconut and tempered in ghee with whole cumin seeds, ginger, chopped green chilli and hing. Candidly, I need to admit that I found the dal too a bit sweet to my palate.

The rice option was the Ghee Bhat, another of the Bengali favourite, which is the Gobindo Bhog rice steamed and then cooked with a magnanimous amount of the zarana ghee.

The bread served was the Loochi, which is the refined flour bread kneaded with sugar and salt and deep fried in ghee. Though the chef had suggested that it goes well with the cholar dal, I loved tasting it all by itself.

Desserts:

The Manolova Nalen Gurer Malpua, the Bengali variant of the Rajasthani sweet is different that this fennel flavoured refined flour dumpling is soaked in a date jaggery syrup. The Nalen Gur is a seasonal favourite of Bengal and the malpua was really a perfect match to the treat earlier.

I wouldn’t have walked out being a perfect Bengali without tasting the Rossogolla. A common sweet by now in every part of the country, the Bengali Rosogolla, which is poached cottage cheese dumpling in sugar syrup, is made only with chenna, which is a variety of cottage cheese prepared from fresh cow milk and is much softer in appearance than paneer.

As I travelled back home with a stuffed tummy munching on the Bangla Pan, I was pretty sure that whenever I am grouchy or irritable, a Bengali dinner is surely going to change my mood. This is something which will make even a dyspeptic change his opinion about food.

Soma.. serving North Indian cuisine in Grand Hyatt... ambience was a proper 5 Star setting... coming to the food I have to give a special mention to the Makai Paneer ka Khurchan in the veg gravies section it had an out of this world taste.. cooked to perfection with appropriate spices a must try...

but something that really made me forgot everything was the Pan Flavoured Kulfi with Gulkand Topping... it was lip smacking and outrageously Delicious... make sure to have one, even if you don't dine there.. this is absolutely not something to be missed guys.

Typical 5 star things that this place has - good ambience, good food, good drinks, good quality, nice staff.
However its not boring to go there twice the menu doesn't look like something typical and something that hasn't been thought about. The food is different and unique and tastes delicious as do the drinks. Good variety, interesting, very nice ambience not at all a boring place.

Been wanting to go here since long,as heard so much about their Biryani. Ended up here on a weekday for lunch. Not much crowded, hence I had choice of settling down on any table. Before I go ahead let me tell you, I am huge fan of Hyatt Hotels. May be because of their service standards being high. And whenever I am at Hyatt it gives me a different comfort all together.
Soma is one of their outlet which serves North Indian cuisine. My purpose of the whole visit was, to eat the Dum Ghosht Biryani. But I could not resist the few other items on the list.

What we ordered:
1.Achari Rawas Tikka: Cubes of rawas marinated in spices and yogurt, cooked on coal. Rawas was so fresh and the spices left their magic on the fish.
2.Kalmi Kebab: Thigh chicken marinated in yogurt and gram flour again cooked on coal. Chicken was juicy and well cooked.
3.Dum Ghosht Biryani: Ah! heaven, ghosht was so well cooked and aromatic herbs added good flavor to the biryani.

Service is good and quick, may be which is expected out of a five star property.

My take on the place:
Food:4/5
Ambiance:5/5
Service:4.5/5
Price:3
Parking: Of course valet parking :P

Do not miss on the North Indian food served here. I am going back soon to taste the other items on the list.

Reached around 10.30 pm for dinner and drinks with friends. Surprisingly, we were the only ones in the restaurant.
The place is surrounded with good decor and a small waterfall (okay, it looked like one).
Good place for fine dining. For starters we ordered something in paneer (i have a bad memory), which was excellent.
The mains, were also delicious.
I happen to ask the waiter if he could arrange a cocktail for me (which was not in their menu), which he did, also complementing me for my choice, which i liked. So, +1 for service.
So, one starter, one main dish (sabji), a raita and two mere cocktails cost us around 6500 Rs.(Ofcourse, adding up the rotis as well). Yeah, it is expensive.
Do give it a try.
I had a wonderful experience.

We dined at the Indian restaurant Soma. The food was lovely. We ordered simple Indian food, dal's and aloo Gobi and kasoori chicken tikka, and Roti's. Everything was cooked Perfectly. The chicken pieces were juicy, tender. The aloo Gobi was soft and spiced very well. The Indian deserts were well done too, not overly sweet at all. The only thing I didn't enjoy was my cup of filter coffee, it tasted like ordinary coffee. The staff is courteous and friendly too. Enjoyed their service.

Large Indian restaurant, very light and airy with a central island kitchen... Good grills options and very friendly staff (snaps to Vaibhav for his very enthusiastic service). I tried the signature pulled lamb dish called Raan-e-Sikandari with their signature naan and some raita to calm the lightly spiced meat (it's not spicy.. I'm just sensitive to spices) which was very filling and a huge portion better suited to two people. Absolutely delicious and recommended. Dessert was Baked Rasgulla which is an interesting twist on the traditional Rasgulla and super sweet. All in all, good restaurant with excellent service.
