There is a popular quote by Dorothy Day - “Food for the body is not enough, there must be food for the soul.” At Thangabali, they prepare food that fills your soul in every way. We first tried their Kundapura Chicken with Neer Dosa which is a chicken curry derived from a place called Kundapura near Udupi. This curry makes up for a tasty and hearty meal when eaten with ultra soft neer dosas. The quantity of this dish was good enough for two medium eaters to share. The second combination that we tried was Fish Moilee along with Local Fat Rice. Fish Moilee is a Kerala style Fish Curry where fish is cooked in a coconut milk based gravy and spices are moderate in this dish. The absolutely refreshing taste of coconut in this curry and the texture of fat rice made this dish into the most delicious and comforting combination. We absolutely loved our meal here and will definitely return soon to try some more dishes from this restaurant.

This is a dependable place for some traditional coastal food. The prawns gassi and the mutton stew are favourites. It's also kid friendly and the customised colouring sheets they give young children is wonderful to keep them off screens. Comfortable place with comfort food at its best!
Went here with friends to try this south indian place after looking at the reviews. The place is really nice along plus the staff is really courteous. We tried prawns starters, fish fingers, potato fries, chicken sukkha, Sri Lankan lollipops, chicken chettinad along with some paratha/appams and orange/watermelon+basil mocktails. I really liked the prawns starters which I cannot recall at this point of time along with chicken sukkha. Unfortunately, after initial two dishes everything else seemed similar and nothing stood out as much. Mocktails were really nice. I wanted to give this place 3.5 stars but since I do not have that option, I'm giving it 4. Visit this place for fish delicacies.
Warm service. The mutton ghee roast with neer dosa was the highlight
Its was a good experience. The staff was very efficient. Binay our server was courteous and helpful.
Excellent food and service
If you're bored with the mundane Chinese and Mughlai switches any the Indian inside you still craves for Desi spicy cusine instead of going for more niche cusine like Italian risotto, pasta, pizza or croissant and want to keep it light on your pocket. Visit Thangabali
We tried 3 starters and 2 main course.
1. Chicken 65 - amazingly brings out the coconut and curry flavours. A bit spicy. But best out of all our orders. Served with 3 different, yum sauces Have added a picture for you guys.
2. Banana+sweet potato fries with gun powder -
Guys basically it's a fancy naam for fries and fried banana sprinkles with malgodi poweder (south ka garam masala), nevertheless very tasty. Have added a pic.
3. Pomfret fry - sea food lovers just call for it to satisfy the fishes in your stomach! Though a bit on the expensive side. We were famished and dogged right into it hence no photo, sorry ):
4. Manglore chicken ghee roast - bohot Ghar ka khana waali feels. 💛 Have it with neer Dosa or kerela special lachcha paratha. Safe option for main course. Medium spicy. Photo Lena bhool Gaye ):
5. Chicken thengdi - I hope I've gotten the name right , it's a more masala, spicier gravy, Tamil Nadu speciality. Have added a picture. Can eat with your choice of bread. We ate it with appam and neer dosa.
MISCELLANEOUS - ethnic, south Indian, clam and soothing ambience, very courteous staff and promt services. Serves water in copper vesseles, serves alcohol and valley parking is available.
Hope have covered everything you need to make a choice of ewhere to go. Am very picky hence always on the look for a detailed review. Because every meal counts and people should benefit from my trials and experiences!
This place is one of the best in Bandra for South Indian food. The preparation is mostly Kerala style and the decor has a cozy homely feel to it. The staff is very courteous and the service is quick and timely. The place is known for non-veg though we had only vegetarian, and were very impressed with the authenticity of the dishes. Their tomato soup is delicious, we tried the mushroom starter as well which was quite ok. The pick of the meal for me was their tamarind rice which was an absolute delicacy. Do not forget to end the meal with their payasam! You will not regret it even if you are full. Highly recommend!
Loved the food and the staff here. We started with chilli coriander prawns with neer dosa. The prawns were really spicy but really so good that we could not stop eating. For mains we went for the Kurdapura chicken and neer dosa and Bisi Belle Bath. The chicken was nice and the rice was more Kerala rather than Tamil Nadu style ( my mom’s main critique). We finished the meal with filter coffee.
Overall great food and drinks we went on a Tuesday afternoon and it was relatively quiet. The staff was lovely especially Shivraj who was great. Great food would love to visit again.
Nice place if you want to sit and chat with some flavourful cocktails and spicy food. (No spicy food available too)
The vegetarian starters had a bit of extra oil. Neer dosa with mango chutney and phomfret fry were really good.
Chennai kothu parota was a bit disappointing since I have had the original one and this is nowhere close to that. but overall good place for south indian food.
Thangabali located at Carter's is a great place for South Indian cuisine. The staff is amazing and friendly. Nazneen we liked your service and thank you for the pictures you clicked for us. She gave us free Silver cards on which we would get 15% off on birthdays and anniversaries and 5% off on regular days at any Thangabali outlet. Overall it was good.
We ordered the following:
Andhra Paneer Dry
Sri Lankan Chicken Lollipop
Veg Hyderabadi Biryani
Hyderabadi Prawns Biryani
Surmai Fish Fry
Caramel Custard
Ambience 4/5
Food 3/5
Service 4/5
Staff were super friendly especially Nazneen we liked your serive and thanks for all the beautiful clicks by u of we 3. Food was amazing and interior is super. waiting for new dishes 😋😍
We were approximately 15 people at the Restaurant and our Service assistant Binay and his colleagues did everything to make us comfortable. The food was Delicious (thank you chef)and the quantity for each serving was great too. The staff was conversant with the menu and knew about each dish which was very helpful for people new to Andhra Cuisine. Thanks Thangabali for a wonderful time and a great experience.
Amazing food. The staff are very friendly. Best place for authenticate Kerala food 😍♥️
Tava fry rawas, thangabali fried chicken, guntur style kozhi vepudu, pineapple coconut rasam, lemon rice with okra & plantain kari, gulab badam kulfi were all heavenly to taste & Well spiced to personalised preferance. Excellent service by Binay.
Must appreciate about the interiors. Very well designed the South Indian style -solid wood carvings, most interesting was they had artifacts which were a treasured old stone temple carving ,a wooden decorative wall hanging which was also an antique piece creating the perfect ambience for fine dine... About the food , Yes ! Mostly authentic in taste ... I personally loved their South Indian flavoured Cocktails which I never thought would taste soo well ... I loved Mr.Karriappa (A cocktail of Gin with curry leaves, flavoured with asafoetida, base was sweet and sour). As I like having sour in my diet I loved it... Service was really good . Would rate the restaurant overall a 4.5 🌟... Will visit again specially to have Mr.Karriappa also to try what I haven't !

A great place to have a peaceful dinner.! The staff is really good they were constantly checking if everything is ok.. the food was good and the service seemed to be quick. The staff was aware about their food dishes
Been to this place for the first time in Bandra and I was completely wowed.
The ambience, the staff, the food, it's simply perfect.
The food was amazing, the decor was lovely. I was impressed by the menu card, water glass and many other small touch points around the place.
Would definitely recommend this place
Happy Eating. God bless.
Cocktails were too good.
I tried muddled caiprioska and cosmopolitan which were too awesome. 😍😍
In food:
1) masala rice papadam: Quantity was less but it was tasty
2)Rawas fish fry: It was so fresh and yummy.😍
3) surmai ghassi: it was not spicy but good in taste.
The food the service and the ambience is beautiful. I will come back. Bt one thing I will suggest is the quantity. N second thing is why is there SERVICE TAX added when there is already CGST SGST AND VAT added to ur bill.
What a great experience at Thangabali for lunch today. It was the four of us with two toddlers. What fun!
Interior is very nice. Staff is friendly and attentive. Place is clean and food is really tasty.

1) Bombil fry

7) Neera dosa

Beautiful ambience!
Great South India feeling
Every staff is so welcoming and polite taking care of your every need
Food is an experience! The types of sides on dosa and Aidiyapam etc are better options to try instead of generic roti or chapati! Brings a world of a difference in the taste.
Definitely going there again!
Was here for dinner with friends. Place is nicely done up and has great ambience. The waiters are good, service is with a smile and food is simply awesome. Seafood was fresh and chicken chettinad with appams and neer dosa tasted yummy. Some stuff were a lil on the spicy side for my friends but it was ok for me. Will surely come back for more.
Superb food. great ambience and service. Couldn’t believe the bill when we saw it. Incredibly pocket friendly.
The go-to place for South Indian cuisine. The menu has some delectable and lip smacking assortments. We ordered for Appam stew and Prawn Chettinad Dosai and oh boy ! Delicious and sumptuous are words to describe this restaurant in a nutshell.
Good food and very friendly staff. The sea food was fresh and appam was perfectly fluffy. Enjoyed the mutton ghasi and chicken chettinad. Kokham is good to try after your meal. Masala rice papad was stale but they exchanged it.
Excellent good, service and ambience. A must visit for all. Staff is very polite. Fish quality is great, would not really recommend chicken that much. But must eat any of their seafood
Was recommended this restaurant by my cuz. And it was one of the best recommendations I had in a quite sometime.
The service was awesome and while we did get off to a rocky start due to seating issues it was expertly dealt with by the management team. The service team were quick with taking and deliver our drink requests as well as managing all the Zomato gold offerings. They were very attentive and courteous.
The food is amazing, just about the right spice and quantity... The options available would suit most individuals wants...
The ambience was great too, wasn’t too loud, until we walked in. Was a great evening and a memorable one.
Thanx to all at this wonderful establishment. I have your names written down somewhere and as soon as I find them will update this review.
Great service by Mr Mani .Food recommended by him was something that I liked it .I hope they provide the same service always .Keep up the good work .
Stopped by for a meal on Saturday night. Great courteous staff with really prompt service. Loved the authentic South Indian cuisine which is something hard to find in Mumbai. Would definitely come here again, great experience overall.
Awesome food and ambience! We had paneer Hyderabadi dosa and chicken Hyderabadi dosa! The best chicken dosa I ever had! Look out for Nazneen the host for the day
It's really authentic South Indian. 👍🙏
From ambience to food everything is managing it's class and culture. We have ordered (with help of waiter and some we already familiar with) 2 starters Chennai kothi paratha, paneer ajadina, masala rice papadam, with iddi appam , neer dosa and sambhar, Hyderabadi Biryani and mocktails. I guess we have to go for more visits to cover the menu items. . :)
Quaint decor! Inviting and attentive staff. Food was very memorable: bombil was the best I’ve had. The prawn chili coriander was so yum with neer dosa. Pomfret Tava fry was extraordinaire!! And do not forget to order mutton stew with appam. For dessert, good old fashioned piassum, to finish off the evening, leaving you wanting an encore!!!!
I was keen on visiting this place as the name itself intrigued me. Decided to go upon reading majorly positive reviews. We were greeted warmly by the soft spoken and courteous staff. The interior is well designed, easy on the eyes and filled in appropriately without being too crammed. The ambience is relaxed and soothing, just what you need for a calm quite dinner with loved ones. The food was scrumptious. The flavours were earthy and wholesome. And the staff was the best I've come across off late. They are earnest and thoughtful with suggestions. It was a sublime experience really! Must give this one a shot.
It is quiet a good atmosphere south Indian restaurant. The employees are friendly, attentive, and suggestive. The paintings are beautiful. The background music is nice. The food was light, finger licking, good. Unique thing is we are served from start to finish in copper vessels.
Beetroot raita was the BEST dish. Apart from it tamarind rice, veg stew with fluffy appam, pineapple coconut rassam soup were good as well. Would recommend south Indian cuisine consumers to have a visit. Quantity is normal. Moderate rates. Keep it going.
It’s a nice restaurant located near Pali Hill, Bandra West. It indeed takes you back to Southern India with a huge variety of South Indian, Hydrabadi and Coastal india’s food offerings. I personally liked their South Indian non veg preparation- Esp. the biryani.
Excellent service. The food is also really good and very consistent. I’ve come here several times and it’s a great place to bring family for a different type of Indian food which you don’t get in many places.
Excellent ambience, food, and service. I’ve been looking for a place that serves (South Indian) Seafood, I loved the Surmai, Squid, and Prawns. Thank you Bharat for the excellent recommendations and making our experience a pleasurable one.
Very good staff and great food for seafood lovers. Had the pomphret and chicken with the Malvani parantha. Good experience overall and would come again.

We had a good time,
Shivraj the service was excellent and so was the food & drinks thanks to Zomato gold we all had a wonderful time throughout the 4 hours we spent
Very good service. Good food and drinks. Pleasant staff. We liked particularly the loongi drink. Shivraj has looked after us very well. Also Chennai Paratha was good.
Went here for a sunday lunch...Amazing food, cozy decor, friendly staff, quick service...the Rava fried surmai and prawns..the Payasam and Caramel Custard are to die for..
Heard about this place via a friend, so we decided to visit and see what the fuss is all about. The location of the restaurant is apt and once you enter, you instantly feel the warmth and amazing hospitality that this place has to offer. Right from the decor, lights, to the people who are extremely polite and patient.
Mani was the person attending to us all evening and ensuring that we were well taken care of. Extremely prompt and very helpful to explain us the dishes and Helping us decide + set our expectations for the dishes.
P.S: On a long weekend, you might want to call in before time and make a reservation.
We booked a table and got started with our dinner.
Drinks:
We called in for a few beers and non-alco drinks. They do have a decent list of beers to choose from (among other alcohol). If you're at a place where you'll be expecting some spice in the food, it's a good idea to wash it down with some beer.
Starters:
The kola Urandai Mutton Balls:
this was a good mix of garam masala and Chettinad spices. This was really yummy! When you pop them you are welcomed with the hint of garam masala and as the mutton ball crumbs you can instantly feel the Chettinad spices, not too spicy but mild enough for you to take a swig of the beer to help balance the taste.
Prawns chilli coriander:
There are only so many ways that one can get prawns wrong. That was not one of those dishes. The balance between the chilli and coriander was just right, this prawn and the previously mentioned mutton balls were perfectly paired with the choice of 3 dips (chutneys). One was a 🍅 based one, the other was a onion and peanut based one and last one was a garlic based one. Either of the three dips were perfect to dip the prawns in.
Hot Butter Devilled red prawns:
Another hot special from the kitchen, those Chutneys were something that I couldn't get enough of and presented to be the perfect companion for the red prawns too and of course don't forget about your beer. The best thing about this place, when they say something is hot or spicy it's mostly mild and not strong enough to burn your taste buds.
Bombil fry:
This was perfectly fried, not too crisp but still tender. The rub of spices like everything else was not overpowering the taste of the fish. This one is best to be ordered with tome gravy and rice, however we demolished this one as one of 'em starters.
Payyoli Chicken Fry:
We were initially skeptical about this one, but since we had a non - sea food eater on the table we couldn't have a all seafood feast. The Payyoli was mainly based on onions besides the spices on the fried chicken. The chicken was tender with a slight crisp crust around it. The spices rub was felt on the crust while you make your way to the juicy chicken. The chunks of chicken were big and would have been better served as boneless chicken. Nonetheless, a must try.
The main->
We went in for breads and gravy (not rice)
Breads:
Appams & Neer Dosa
Kongunadu Chicken:
This was like many dishes coconut based with boneless chicken. Paired well woth the appams which were so fresh and soft. Everytime you tear a piece of the appam you see the slow release of slight steam, dip it in the Kongunadu gravy and enjoy the taste of coconuts and slight spice borrowed by the pieces of chillies in it. The taste is balanced with the coconut sweetness and the spices of the chillies in it. Don't forget to wash it down with your beer ofcourse.
This dish in my opinion would be perfectly paired with rice as the gravy is more flowy (if made thicker would have been even better for bread pairing)
Chicken Chettinad:
One cannot for a South Indian meal and miss out on your chicken Chettinad, really loved the little serving utensil they had. This dish was just perfect, a little bit spiciness would have been appreciated (but no biggie). This one's texture was perfect for the breads. Beware of their appams they are dangerously addictive specially when paired with such a gravy. Just can't stop knocking them off.
Had a pleasant experience here!
Can't wait to go in again and try the rest of the dishes.
Thank you, Thangabali for your hospitality and the delish food.
We tried this place a few days back for the first time and the food was great, freshly cooked very tasty and well presented. The waiters were attentive and the service overall was good. The restaurant looked to have been recently decorated. i loved the mutton sukkha and the amm panna is to die for, its nothing like what we have had before, something different and bloody nice about it. Overall a good meal and we will certainly be going back.
Wonderful experience.Great food and service.Strongly recommend.Wonderful ambience.Drinks and food, very very wide variety. All the best for promoting Indian tastes.
Food is always excellent and customer service is not at par with their Andheri branch. You can order any item on the dish and it tastes fantastic. Any meats or veggies etc is all good.
For starters we had the crab ajadina and the gun powder squid which were amazing, the carb is a must try for all crab lovers.
For main course we had the prawns ghasi and appam ND need dosa
Prawns ghasi was a little too creamy, appam were really good but the beer dosa was a disappointment, they were rubbery and hard to swallow
Otherwise overall food is great 👌
Would definitely go back for the crab ajadina
Very good ambience. Staff is courteous .
Best appams in Mumbai available over here. Do try their appams. Kingfish curry was also delicious.
Made with perfection!
Same as my review for the other outlet of thangabali, I must say, thangabali really does live up to the standards it sets in terms of consistency. The food is absolutely authentic and amazing, the staff is very friendly and polite, and the ambience gives the theme an ecstatic shout-out.
After constant change of plans in search of sea food we reached from Borivali to bandra to visit this place. The very feel on entering is as if one has stepped into the beauty of Kerala! Oh yes, the music too! The menu is designed in the shape of a coconut scrapper, justifying that you've officially entered 'south india' (creative much)
Well, being hardcore sea food lovers, we ordered the gun powder squids and two prawn starters one of them was extremely spicy other was a garlic based all the flavours were unqiue and really commendable! Post that we ordered a coconut based Crab starters (suggested by the team) which left us really drooling!! We also tried the imli rasam which was perfectly sour and spicy. Must try for rasam lovers! For main course we ordered the mutton ghee roast with neer dosa and the fish moilee gravy which a coconut based thin curry with surmai prices along with the local fat rice! The mutton was moist and soft not too chewy which was commendable. Not forgetting desserts, we had the payassam of course and ended it with the very own "filter kaapi"
To summarize,
Ambiance: 5/5
Food quality: 5/5
Food quantity: 4/5
Price: Average, not pocket friendly but surely not to miss
Suggested dishes: Imli rasam, the crab starters(forgetting the name), gun powder squids, neer dosa with mutton ghee roast and the payassam.
Suggestions to the Team: Please open soon somewhere around Malad to borivali :p
The food tasted as I expected.Authentic and real tastes, satiating my taste buds.Tried the masala papad, chicken Sukha, neer dosa and aapam and a mangalorean chicken curry.only didn't like the soup that tasted exactly like sambhar.Loved the ambience and attention to detail in the restaurant portraits as well as cutlery, menu and staff uniforms.Good quantity and reasonable prices.
Had wonderful time with friends. The ambience was very relaxing. The background music was soothing and added to the energy of the same. The staff was courteous and observant of guest needs.
Special mention for Anjali Chauhan - who stood out for her service, observation, courtesy, helpfulness and attitude. Wish you the best Anjali.

Kudos!
Good place, fast and responsive service. Tried the squid fry, Kerala prawn , Sri Lankan chicken lollipops with appam. The lollipops really stands out. The cocktails are ok. There are items that I would like to come back to have.
