Today I am in Mumbai for quick visit. I had my lunch in Sandeep Gomantak.I ordered FISH THALI which include one medium size bangada fry, curry wati, sol Kadhi,1 bowl of steamed rice and chappati.
As it was rush I was waited for 5 mints outside. As soon as I got table. The food was served in short time. Taste is so good. Very quick service by helping hand of hotel. After long time I had one of best sea food. If you planned visit to CSTM,MUMBAI. Don't forget to be a witness of great gomantak food at Sandeep Gomantak restorant. Its pocket friendly also. It's cost me only 140/-.
I will surely revisit again to this restorent.

It was an absolute pleasure to find this Konkani joint in Fort area. Konkani restaurants are usually scattered around Dadar or Thane side of Mumbai. Went around lunch time on a weekday and this place was busy. Very cleanly maintained and full of local crowd enjoying their seafood. Opted for Mutton Wade Rice combination and it was served quickly. The thali (plate) came with four piping hot wade, a bowl of spicy mutton gravy, a small bowl of rassa, sol kadi, coconut chutney, and chopped onions. Mutton gravy was tender and authentic in taste. They gave more wada, rassa and chutney if needed. Taste was superb and I would absolutely revisit this place. Priced at just INR 170 this is very pocket friendly place.

We have Visited here to enjoy sea food. As we were here around 2.45 PM rush was less. We have ordered two surmai Thalis & Bombil fry. So Thali came with 2 chapatis, fish curry, half bowl rice, coconut chutney, solkadi and big deep fried surmai. Bombil fry was soft and crispy. Fish was very fresh. We asked owner about fish freshness so he told us that he picks fishes from sasoon dock daily by himself. We have ordered one more fried surmai, one solkadi and one mandeli fry. All dises were very tasty. We got involved in eating so much that we didn't clicked single photo.
Bill was very nominal. Around 500 bucks. Every nonveg eater should visit here once

I always like to visit restaurants which serves authentic malvani cuisine...so after long working hours on busy friday, I manage to visit this place. This place is just 5-10 mins walking distance from CST station & it is located in same gully dat of Pancham Puriwala.

I ordered Chicken Wade Thali and Prawns fry..In Chicken Wade Thali you ll get 4 Wade, chicken sukka, chicken rassa, rice, chatni and sol kadi (my favourite). Although the food is very hot & delicious, the chicken rassa is a disappointing part of it..It has very mild taste which I don't like..The unique point of this restaurant is the prompt service of the waiters. If you order something extra after getting your Thali, you ll get it within 2 mins. The ambiance is average.

I would like to visit this place again to enjoy few more thalis here.(crab, shimple, surmai, mutton, pomfret, etc.)

Sandeep Gomantak a name heard from years but i had never visited. Finally planed a visit here last night as i was near by in the area. A small place as seen from outside but has good enough seating area inside. Decent place with grt service.
The menu card kept on the table has pocket friendly rates for mouthwatering delicasies.

I had ordered for:-

1) Paplet Fry Thali- A humongous size deep fried pomphret with malwani style marination. A bowl of malwani style fish curry which tasted amazing but was little watery. A bowl of kokum saar again it was amazing but watery. 1 chapati, onions, chutney and a bowl of rice all this at only Rs180.

2) Chicken Vade Rice - A Bowl of malwani style chicken , 5 vadas they wer grt. Bowl of rice, kokum saar, chicken gravy. Onions and chutney as accompaniments. Grt food and vada wer amazing.
At only Rs150.

Amazing service. They refil your curry bowls as soon as they are empty. The place is crowded at lunch and dinner hours. Must try. They have various options available.

Our Lady Mumbai and Gomantaks have a really close relationship. The sheer amount of them, dotting our city is mind numbing.

So, what are Gomantaks? Just restaurants selling Malvani/Konakani Speaking Maharashtrian cuisine. They do, do a la carte but thalis are what are generally preferred being an economic option. The food is extremely homely ditto for the waiting staff (not everywhere though)

With all being said, let's come to Sandeep, the place is old, pretty old. It is patronized by the nearby office goers, owing to which, there is always a queue during the lunch hours. The food is pretty cheap, given the amount that is served.

What to have here?

The seafood.. the thing is, you can have your everyday, quintessential Kombi Wade and sukka mutton in every Gomantak. The taste will always be the same. But at Sandeep, given it's close proximity to the docks, you get pretty fresh seafood.

I tried the Surmai Thali with fried Bombil on the side. Needless to say, the fish was beautiful. Moist and flaky with a crunch rava coating. But what it really lacked though is seasoning, now, when it's Malvani food, it's not just about salt when it comes to being well seasoned, it's also about the masalas used, that work together to bring out the flavour of the food, maybe they were trying to bank on the freshness of the catch, but yes, a little bit on the spicy side would be well received. Rest all is the standard fare, the chapatis the rice and such.

Quick ratings

VFM - 5/5
Service - 5/5
Ambiance - Laughable

If you are alone or just a couple, you may have to share tables with people who have horrible table manners. So consider this as a cautionary note before going here

Perfect place for a set meal lunch or dinner with good portion... this place is best known for seafood preparation, one of our place we always opt if we want to have typical southern Indian fish/chicken/mutton curry... it's a quick service restaurant and is always busy on lunches due to corporate office in the vicinity... however ensure tht one communicates straight and short orders to waiters to avoid arguments.

The Thalis: a perfect set platter with common dishes comprising of Boiled rice, Solkadi, perfectly cooked and fresh hand made chapati, with a small potion of onion and coconut chutney... one has approximately 15-16 varieties of thalis to choice out from,
However fish thali: has additional fish curry 2pieces of Surmai(Kingfish)/pompret/Bangda/halwa/Bombil fry not very oily and perfectly cooked...
chicken/mutton sukha thali: has additional chicken/mutton curry and small chicken/mutton pieces with bone cooked along with coconut and spices very well balanced with regards to spices.. not to oily but yes less in portion.

P.S.: Mutton fishes sells out really quick so one has be lucky if they are served.. 😜

A good very place for non-veg lovers especially seafood lovers . Food served is extremely fresh at very  reasonable price. The food is delicious. We had  Bombil Fry Thali, Mutton Thali, Surmai Thali and every thing was really fresh and tasty. Sadly Pompret was not available at that time. Tables are on sharing basis. A nice place for a quick thaali meal. The food was tasty and sea food was nicely fried and crispy.

Only unsatisfactory part was price - for a thaali with only one roti, a bowl of rice, curry, with a fried sea food item seemed a bit high for regular diners and office goers.

Addition of chapattis, with a sweet dish would have complimented the meal on the whole.

Once a visit would be an experience.

Different Gomantak's but each one is a charm in itself - especially for someone who loves the fish but is soon to go vegetarian for the Navratri (not me but my friend). So, hastily decided (with convenience for him as he drives a car and you know how Mumbai can punish you for that) we met there and ordered a fish thali each (Bombil and Halva and wasn't each of those fishes juicy and soft - melting in one's mouth)  along with Pomfret and Prawns both of which were almost perfectly fried. But I think they reserve the best thing for the last and that's the cheap bill offered probably as a token against all the well-wishes those people already receive (yeah, I romanticize like in bollywood movies). So, whenever you are in the nieghbourhood, don't miss the chance of eating delicious seafood.

P.S. - The curry in the thali is a bit spicy and can conjure up uncomfortable demons for the weak

Excellent seafood restaurant in the heart of Mumbai. At peak lunch hours, the queue for a place (yes a place, not a table) extends a fair distance down the street. However, if you don't mind going slightly earlier or slightly later, you will be rewarded with some very homely & tasty seafood.

Would recommend the fish thali, with fried fish (whatever is the catch of the day)

This is one place which I come across by chance. Me and my friends were supposed to visit another place but as it was shut we had to search for other options in the vicinity. This is a place perfect for someone who loves seafood, especially Maharashtrian cuisine.

I have been to this place couple of times by now. It is at a walking distance from CST station. Waiters over here are very friendly and they help you out with your order well. This place doesn't have an amazing decor which is because it prefers to stays with the simplistic looks.

I have tried quite a few Thalis here. Single Thali is enough to satiate an individual. My favorite Thali here is of Prawns Fry Thali but beware as it gets over quick. Other notable Thalis over here are Chicken Vade, Surmai, Rawas, Halva, etc. Overall I feel you can order anything and you won't be disappointed.

A must visit place for seafood lovers. This is now my ultimate stop for authentic Maharashtrian thalis.

We had Prawns Thali, Surmai Thali and a plate of fried Bombil all for just Rs. 400/-. The Prawns were fried to crunchy perfection and so was the Surmai. The curry tasted like someone from coastal Maharashtra made it and it was absolutely delicious. What's more that all thalis came with unlimited curry, chutney, lemon and Solkadi. The kind smiling wait staff was added bonus and truly made it a memorable experience.

Food for the Gods!!!!!! Yes, food for the aam aadmi!!!!!! for the aam aadmi is the God of the people. And God lives in our aam aadmi.
So, if you and I want to savour what our common man/woman feasts upon, at their kinda rates, then we have to be prepared to stand in the queue, bear with the heat and humidity, the crowd and the noise, that little bit of lack of hygiene that we might not be used to. But, this is that place God has gifted for the common man/woman. May hundreds of Sandeep Gomantaks come up all over India, so that the humans on the street have a feast to look forward to.
Having said all of the above, I mean in no way to belittle S G, I actually wish to make it clear that it is THE BEST! Which is why I have very unabashedly marked it the maximum.
Now, comparing it to Pradeep Gomantak at Fort, rates are 10% higher maybe, but the dishes are that much tastier. So, try out both and choose your thali, your gravy, your kinda fish.
Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!

I really enjoyed my time at Sandeep Gomantak. A typical Malvani Seafood place serving Thalis and different types of seafood fry, Sandeep Gomantak was a satisfying lunch experience.

I had to walk almost a kilometer from the CST station to get to this  place (a KM is fine in normal circumstances but in this heat it was the worst) and I was so relieved when I got a seat almost immediately and the waiting staff was quick to refill my glass of water multiple times before I could order anything. Thank you for that.

I had the Prawn Masala Thali which has the standard Prawn Masala, Solkadi, Fish Curry, a vegetable, rice and chapatis. The Prawn Masala had a spicier, thicker gravy (than say the Prawn Masala at the Dadar Gomantak which has a more subtle flavor) and tasted great with the chapatis, so much so that I ordered another portion of it. The Fish Curry was also great, although it had a little more coconut milk than I would normally like as I like my curries to be not so thick.

The Solkadi was average and watered down. It didn't have the zing a good Solkadi does (like the one at Dadar Gomantak) which provides a nice balance to the spice of the curries and the masalas, so there were no refills called for that.  The Bombil Fry was fresh but the batter was thicker than I would have liked. It was definitely tasty, as was everything else, it's just that I'm a big fan of the minimalist Malvani food, but over here that simplicity seemed to be missing.

I would definitely recommend Sandeep though, especially if you're trying to find a good cheap lunch place around Fort, which is running out of such places fast. Drop by Sandeep for lunch and enjoy the attentive stuff who are more than happy to refill your chapatis, curries, onions, water and vegetables within seconds. (Do tip them well!!)

If you are looking for an authentic fish thali in mumbai ,your search stops here.Step into this place and enjoy a feast of fresh seafood.
This the best place in Mumbai for  seafood lovers like me who are from Goa.
FISH THALI I ate here was the best thali i  ever had in recent times except  the legendary ANATASHRAM in Khotachi wadi Girgaum.
I Ordered Rawas fish thali and bombil fry which was very fresh.but the best part here is  the delicious fish curry which is the most imp factor in any Goan fish thali and here Sandip Gomantak scores over the rest.
As a frequent traveller i had very bad experience with some restaurants in Mumbai which claims to be serving authentic Goan/Konkani seafood.but Sandip Gomantak truly lives up to the legacy of its name.
This restaurant is owned by  Amonkar Family which originally belong to Goa.
I would like to recommend this very delicious place to every seafood lover looking for an Authentic Goan /Konkani fish curry rice in MUMBAI.

Where would you go if you are in south mumbai and have a sudden craving for fried surmai? Look no further because this place serves the best. Always.

This place is so famous that you will have to wait for a table during peak lunch times on Wednesdays and Fridays (the days when most of the locals eat non-veg)

My dad is a frequent visitor here and he introduced me to this wonderful place in a small by-lane at Fort. The same by-lane which houses the famous Pancham Pooriwala. And boy, did I love those besan-coated sea-food! Absolutely yum!

FOOD- 3.5/5..VERY AUTHENTIC
STAFF - 2/5..Not courteous enough
Service - 3/5..very quick once you are done waiting in the queue.
Location - 4/5..easy to spot.
Hygenic- 2/5- they can improve a bit on it.

Looking at people queuing up daily along the pavements of this restaurant on the BORA BAZAR/Bazar gate road made us much curious as to "Is the food so tasty here"? "Or are their rates very low?" "Why are people so eager to eat here?"So we decided to visit it by ourselves and yes even waited in the queue ..and yes it was totally worth it.

Sandeep Gomantak is the place if you are a seafood lover and wish to taste "assal malvani / Goan " fish delicacies. They have a short and limited menu also the food is cooked in limited portion, By 130 pm most of the items are "sold out" so you ought to queue up early if you want to taste all of it.

A thali here consists of choice of meat/fish/Prawns with goan fish curry decent portion of boiled rice unlimited chapatis accompanied by a lip smacking chutney and the sol khadi. We tried the surmai thali and prawns fry both were awesome.Surmai fishes were very fresh I must say and fried to perfection.Prawns tasted like fried n soaked in all the goodness of the masala.

Sol khadi
This is the one you will fall in love with.SPICY,SALTY,TANGY,all at the same time, this is made of kokam and tastes amazing.

Would I Visit again?I would want to visit daily but queuing up at 12:30 to have food at 1:00 or 1:30 is really not feasible.

A close friend suggested this place. We reached there for lunch, well this place is like a hidden treasure. We were welcomed by a line to enter the joint. That made us more hungry as more pple waiting to enter the place means the food is normally awesome and reasonable price. Well we were not disappointed. We ordered the surmai thali, halwa thali and kombdi wade add on were fried mandeli. The thali consist of fish curry, fish fry ( decent size), chutney, onion, rice and chapati. The food taste was as ur grand moma would cook. Tasty to the last bit, well if u want more rice, gravy, chutney or chapati they are happy to help u without any extra cost, fish fry will cost additional. But guys the fish is awesome fresh and tasty and very reasonable priced. Skip the hyped fish joints which charge a bomb for the seafood. This place is ment to be visited by fish lovers. Well they do serve chicken and mutton thali as well. Reach early to skip standing in line. But my verdict is eat at this joint and u will know what actual home cooked malvani food tastes like.

Who could  imagine one can get a very good fish thali at just 110/- that too in mumbai's top commercial area!!
Food is really good as compared to the branded seafood restaurants, it has a real home made taste to it, pretty simple but delicious.Best part about this place is the sea food is really fresh unlike other places.

Also the service is like what you see in a mess but waiters are polite. I would suggest to go bit early before it gets crowded & enjoy your meal.

Simply awesome joint and highly recommended. Sea food served are ever fresh, unbelievably low price, neat and clean. You may try crab masala, they serve medium size crabs in a mouthwatering thick gravy, have it with soft chapatis. While chewing, concentrate on the divine taste, keep your phone on silent so that no one disturbes you during the course of eating, gradually you order Halwa fry, fish egg fry, and just keep eating... sip sole kadi in certain interval for xhange of taste.
This place accept Sodexo.

one of my favourite!!! i tried this place, since my office was at fort. i would like to say, food here is more than value for money. i had tried gomantak at Dadar but i was really disappointed, especially after tasting here. when you may not get better size of fish for a certain price, at many many places in mumbai, you get full thali here in that price and that too tasty. what more too say.

After reading a fellow foodie Sandeep Nadkarnis review i had this place bookmarked since i love my gomantak food...its a tough place to find if u have a vehicle but if u know the lane where the famous pancham puriwala is then its a straight 5 minutes walk from there on...since i ride solo it was easy to find a place without any waiting time...i went in for my usual suspect sukka chicken thali n halwa fry...the chicken is good but the chicken gravy lacked the spice which is needed...the halwa fry was super fresh but was served cold which was a put off but luckily had the piping hot fish gravy to wipe it off...the fish gravy was super with the right spices...its a great place for all the fish lovers...do visit SG for its VFM meals.

The Fort + Colaba precincts in Mumbai are a brilliant culinary microcosm for the entire city. They have specialty restaurants representing nearly every type of cuisine and budget.

Fish eaters are spoilt for choice here, on one end of the spectrum you have the “Sandeep Gomantak”s offering an entire fish thali for Rs.100/- and on the other, you have the “Mahesh Lunch Home”s who would barely offer you a naan for the amount.

Sandeep Gomantak is a roomy Spartan non-AC eatery which is often crowded on account of its popularity.

For what you’d pay for a Frankie, you’ll get a large chapatti, rice, unlimited sol kadi, unlimited fish curry/chicken gravy, large bowl of rice, diced onion and chutney.

I called for a Tsirya masala Thali (Rs.110/-) and Prawns fry (Rs.100/)-; the tisrya masala was very well made and the shells were generously fleshy, the fish curry was robustly favourful and the sol kadi was at par. The prawns in the prawns fry were medium in size but were distinctly fresh and crispy.

Some other patrons who jostled for space on the table on which I was seated had called for the Surmai Thali on autopilot and were instantly rewarded with a juicy (I could only derive vicarious pleasure at its sight) piece of surmai fry with the other components of the thali.

The service is lightning fast, the food – complete paisa vasool.

For the stressed Mumbai office goer (me included), a fulfilling lunch is a rather cathartic daily ritual and when you offer him value for his money he rewards you with his loyalty and custom; SG looks like a place that has long earned its beatitudes.

On the busy streets of Fort, located in a small shop kind of place is this place. No doubt a great value for money for SeaFood eaters. We went on a Wednesday afternoon. There was a huge waiting line outside. Ordered Surmai plate and Butter Chicken. Super Quick service. Served in a very simple household kind of steel plates and bowls. Unconsciously, you eat your food quick here. Maybe coz of the Pressure of the long line waiting outside after you. Or even coz of swift movement Of waiters and people inside shouting away your orders to the kitchen :D It would have been a great experience if the place was not so crowded.

Value for money restra. Perfect Malvani food . Just go there and order a Fish or Chicken Thali. It crowded during office hours. So 20-30 minutes waiting would be there.

My personel fav is Pomfret Fry and Zinga Masala Gravy. They have very thin chapatis like roomali rotis.

Just go and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

Great value for money on weekday seafood lunch in Fort.
Was highly recommended by my colleague for fish curry and value for money so went. There's a line for around 7-8 mins but that was more than compensated by the quick n express service!
Basically has fish thalis with one fried fish, 2 rotis and a bowl of rice. You can also order plain rice thalis.
Their service is excellent with keen observation and refills of curry if required. Getting such good seafood at 100 Rs is great!

Use to stand in queue on Wednesday and Friday for Kombdi Wadas at Sandeep Gomantak at Fort Market. The place is tiny with cramped up seating arrangement. The food is good. They serve best Malvani food in southern part of town. Their Surmayi Fish and Chicken Sukka Thali are finger licking. Thin and well greased Chapatis with Onions and their trademark Chatni tastes amazing with the food. Mutton Sukka and Phompret Masala are also very good. Kokam Curry is served chilled. Also try their weekly specials like Kombadi and Mutton Wade. But food grade has fallen in last few years, but still they have many loyal customers. Staff is good and attentive. The time you wasted standing in queue might be compensated by the quick service. Overall a good experience. Recommended is you are Malvani Sea Food lover.

First thing to mention Great value for money. I never thought a seafood thali would jus cost 100 bucks. I have been here lot many times and tried lot many different Thalis (Surmai, pompref, prawn, mori masala, chicken to name few) Authentic Konkani food. The most yummy thing is their tangy chatni n also Solkadi which I end up having twice or thrice. Many a times you will find a queue to get in (esp Wednesdays n Fridays) But the service is quick so you get a place quite easily. Sunday its closed.

the food here is really good, the sea food is ever fresh & most reasonably priced.
many a times people have to stand in a line , but every thing is well taken care of by the management.

The cheapest freshest and best value fish thali in a small lane at bora bazaar V.T. Nestled in the lanes of bora bazaar this place is not easy to locate.

Wed n Fri afternoons are usually very crowded and you may have to wait for atleast 15 minutes before getting a seat on a sharing table nevertheless the best place for a noon fish lunch. The surmai thali consists of one medium size piece of fried surmai, fish curry, solkadi, two chapatis, rice along with some onions and green chutney. Damages just rs. 85/-

Service sucks
Ambience negligible
Fried fish 10/10
Cost: cheap
Overall: satisfying..burrp!!

Famous for sea food. We usually order fried fish curry curry rice and chapati. Cost us around ₹.250l- per person. Most office goers visit here during lunch time. There is a bit of wait time outside during lunch hours. Not much people are there after office hours.

It's a small place(35-40 seating) for fish lovers. You will always get a queue there. I had bombil thali. Bombils were crispy from outside & juicy from inside. Surmai fry was ok-ok. I find it dip frozen slice. Rest is good. The place is closed on Sundays.
