We, a group of 4 people had visited this place for trying their legendary Thal Siraj ud daula, and it was up to the mark. We had ordered butter roti for having it, quite filling for 4 people. Though a bit costly, but worth the price. Quick service, nice ambiance of a personal family room!

This place is located at a very nice location filled with foreigners.Kepsa rice here is a must try with chicken crispy.Some kind of Arabic restaurant inside the a/c hall.
Food is good. Raan kapsa and promfrer tandoori was excellent. Love the seating arrangment(dastarkhan) and differnt eating style. But costly.
This place serves up an Excellent Green Masala Chaamp & their Butter Chicken is one of my personal favourites. It’s no secret that such food is very heavy & a tad greasy but to be fair, there’s something just so indulgent & old fashioned about the flavours at play here. We sat in the family hall section of this resto. which felt nice & private. The aab-gosht had a lovely saturated flavour to it. I’ll be sure to take-away food from here & try their ginormous thaals in a larger group setting the next time. If you want Mughlai food done the classic way, then Ideal is your ideal destination.

Its a regular restaurant that serves a lot of Muslim crowd and hence the food caters to a specific audience. You'll find curtains around tables for privacy and also a dastarkhaan section which allows you to have a private dining room, all to yourself.
We ordered the Aab Ghosht soup and absolutely relished it. Slightly spicy with the stock of the mutton spiced to perfection, this made for a great winter drink. Plus it comes with a piece of mutton that is soft and totally worth fighting for.
For main course we ordered the Shiraj-ud-daula thaal that comes with 4 different types of starters and 2 gravies in a huge thaal. We ate this with rotis that we ordered separately.
We were 11 people so we ordered 2 thaals and it was more than enough. (7of them were ladies with lower appetites.)
We then ordered prawn fried rice and had a terrible experience as the rice was smelly and the prawns were literally stinking. The stink was so bad that the dastarkhaan that we were sitting in began to stink too.
Obviously we returned the dish as asked that to be reached with chicken fried rice. The rice came dropping in oil and full of salt and ajino motto. But, hey we signed up for this so no complaints.
Ideal does many other thaals with varied combination of dishes that are totally worth trying if your in a big group.
They also do an amazing raan biryani preparation that we wanted to but couldn't eat that day, since we were so full already.
However, avoid sea food here.

Best Thalaa is Siraj ud-Daula which I recommend to most.
If you opt for Dastarkhwan make sure you turn off the Air conditioning so you could enjoy the food as it should be HOT!.

Its little expensive but worth the price as food is awesome. We order Thaal Nawabi its enough for 7-8 people as it has 4 starters 2 gravy and a raan biryani

Being living in Mumbai I have always been fascinated by Irani, Arab or Muslim preparation of non-veg preparation. The ideal restaurant is one of those. I always believe "Some things are best with the natives". This truly applies here. Moglai food prepared by experts has to be good.
There must be an intense number of trials to make the final reception of such a good taste. The ingredients for marination, time for marination and same for the preparations must be tested hundreds of times to make the final taste/. All of this efforts get reflected in the taste.
I could not order many things as I targeted "thal". It was referred by a local friend. And the information was very true.
They have Thal system, a big steel plate with 5-7 dishes as per the order. Usually for 4-5 people. Quantity wise price is surely suitable and worth. All the dishes are prepared very respectfully as it reflects in the taste. All the dishes had the distinct different taste. Everything was cooked nicely or perfectly, served hot and felt very fresh. I ordered roti along which was thick but very soft and fresh.
One of the dishes in the thal was Chinese 'chicken chilly'; when you have such amazing Moglai preparation Chinese dish will be completely ignored. None of us actually finish the same. If you wish to eat Chinese or any other preparation this is not a place for you. Surprisingly it was informed to us that a dish can be replaced by some other dish as well.
One of the dish "Chops" was also referred to the very high level of expectations and it truly sufficed. They have two choices for chops one is regular red and another is yellow with mustard sauce. I ordered the mustard sauce chop and it was really delighted. The perfectly cooked soft meat with perfectly infused mustard sauce with other spices makes the dish simply amazing.
One must try this at any cost.
The overall ambience is not very sophisticated. It has an aged look. Simple furniture simple structure and simple service. Service providers are not at all rude but not very polite as well. They explain and suggest according to your choices. They have old curtain system for little more privacy mainly for the families which I was very amused to see as such things are getting obsolete slowly. But the ideal restaurant is keeping it live. Surely a great place to visit and enjoy the non-veg feast.
This is a paradise for Mon veg lovers. Mutton stambouli to Chicken lazeez to the Lassi this is the place you come for some old school non veg stuff.
A hardcore Mughlai joint with hardcore non-veg stuff, fairly economical. The ‘Raan masala’ is definitely one of my favs and it serves 4-6 people.
Good place for non veg food, had been here with family, ambience is average although they have a separate mini room for families or group which is charged 25% more on food dishes, for food we ordered Siraj udaula thal it's a huge dish which contains 2 starters one chicken and one mutton and 4 main course items,we were 6 and could finish it, Roti is not included u have to order it separately, the taste was very good. In the AC section they have nice curtains on the sides which u can cover your table if u want to. A good experience.

I have been here multiple times. My favorite is Ran with Chicken Fried Rice topping with Chicken Crispy. Those who don't like mutton can opt for Chicken.
Second best thing is the Chap Soup it's increases the hunger to eat more.
For starter lovers you can order Sirajud Daula Thal with variants of Chicken N Mutton.
My fav desert is tandoori roti with jam along with refreshing tea.
The food is awesome in Arabic style mostly non spicy.
You will find most of the visitors are foreigners.
The worst part is only waiter service, they first prefer foreigners for a greed of good tips and we are ignored multiple times.

Made the last minute decision of going for the famous raan at Ideal, thanks to a foodie group meet last night. The group had booked an A/C private dining cabin so we could eat in peace and cool comfort, only issue being the ground seating and low table which is a little uncomfortable for one and all especially if one is going to eat a lot. The plus being, you can lie down and take a break in between meals! The food does arrive rather quickly so not much time to relax, rather one's appetite is unleashed very soon.
The order was as follows:
Egg Masala (For a Jain attendee!) - 3/5 (As per rating of the person who solely had this dish)
Raan Mussallam - 4/5
The meat was fall off the bone tender, the white and red gravies accompanying were mildly spiced and not very oily either which was a bonus. Garnish of boiled eggs and freshly cut tomatoes completes the dish. It was polished off within 10 minutes between 5 hardcore meatarians!
Naan/Roti - 1/5
Would definitely avoid these as they were nothing but chewy semi cooked dough! Big disappointment
Mutton Chaap in green masala - 2.5/5
We did not enjoy the chaap as much as it was pretty small in portion, the meat limited and wasn't very tender either, plus the spices were pretty un involving. Won't recommend this dish or the chaap's preparations in general
Bukhari Rice - 2.5/5
Plane biryani rice with biresta(fried onions)/coriander and boiled egg garnish. Pretty much average and nothing much to write about. One can safely avoid as well
Overall, this place is known for its raan preparations and that is precisely what one must stick to ordering. The raan dishes are not really value for money and only make sense when a group of 4-6 people share the bill. Service is prompt but little slow to understand/take orders.

All foodies in Mumbai need to visit the Ideal Restaurant for this amazing non-vegetarian platter. The platter is as royal as the name suggests, Thala Nawabi. It consists of all kinds of chicken and mutton delicacies, the highlight being the raan tandoori biryani. It is a whole leg of a goat marinated overnight and grilled to perfection, served on a bed of biryani rice. Just like the way the Arabs do.
It also includes mutton chops, chicken tikka, crispy chicken, chicken masala, gurda {mutton kidneys}, mutton seekh kebabs and mutton chops. {*Sigh!*} The meats are so succulent and cooked to perfection. It can comfortably stuff 6 people and it cost INR 3900, that's like INR 650 per person.Undoubtedly, the ultimate non-vegetarian platter that is served in Mumbai.
Pro Tip: Make sure you have a huge appetite or an empty stomach to finish it entirely.
There is a family section where you can sit with large groups in nice cozy cabins and enjoy your meal. The service is prompt with a very friendly staff.

Ideal Restaurant at Colaba would be a fine choice if you are in pursuit of arabic cuisine in Mumbai . We ate their Raan Masala and Payasoup two days in a row and if I had to stay longer I surely would have revisited to make another darshan to their lamb. This small serving is a feast and should be relished by atleast 3 people.
XXL sized plate served XXXL sized rice which was rich in its ingredients & flavour and will leave you desperately searching for leftover grains. Ufff and the lamb pls don't ask ...... it's hidden beneath the mammoth pile of rice and the meat of this massive lamb leg was as soft as whippedcream ....... as you sink your hungry fingers in, the meat detaches itself from its bone. But once it's in your mouth and begins to melt you have series of epiphanies and the last one being the lamb had an halo and it's sole purpose in life was this very moment.

This is a small place in colaba causeway that serves a classic Bohri style Thaal. A massive steel Thali that is filled with a variety of food and shared between 7 to 9 people that sit around it.
Since we were a large group they seated us in one of their private family rooms that had a long floor table with mattress seating around it. The only disadvantage of this room is that senior citizens may have trouble sitting on the floor.
The quantity of food on the Thaal is huge and can be easily shared by a group of 7. The mutton Raan is the best thing on their menu and extremely tender.
Food quality and portion size is good enough.

Only major issue is that the service is slightly slow and No Cards excepted for billing
I have went for a dinner with my friend. We have ordered sheekph kabab , mutton lucknowbi , naan , tandoori, chicken laziz and mutton palau. How ever mutton lucknowbi and sheekh kabab was good. Others have average taste. Don't go for any rice item since they don' t serve dum biriyani. Ambiance is ok. Cost is reasonable. Waiters are very friendly. But one biggest problem here you have to pay by cash. They don't accept any card or paytm. @arun

Love everything from the raan briyani to lucknowi mutton to mutton chap. Be careful when you order raan briyani because the portion is huge and you need atleast 4 good eaters to do justice to the raan. Try anything from pulao to curries, the taste will be mildly spicy and addictive in taste.
Don't go by the Ambience. It's very straight and simple. Just go for the food!

The Best thing of this restaurant is our order come on time. We dont have to wait for long specially if we are hungry. Food quality is very good with good quantity. A simple restaurant not far off from Gateway of India.
Tried Chicken Masala, Dal Tadka with rice and chapati. Food was delicious. The green chutney was way too spicy. Place is pretty cheap and the ambience is okayish. It's all about the taste though.
Ideal is an ideal restaurant if taste is what matters the most. Ambiance is quite simple with 3 types of seatings i.e. AC, non-ac and Dastarkhan.

01. Aab Murg and Chicken Manchow Soup
(Both were extremely good but, Aab Murg's chicken could've been better)
02. Crispy chicken and Chicken Tikka
(Crispy was tasty and it's worth ordering but Tikka was a disappointment)
03. Dabba Ghosht, Prawns Masala, Chicken Lazeez
(All the mains were amazing and I was more than happy with the Prawns Masala which I'd recommend)
04. Chicken Kepsa
(With two huge pieces of chicken and masala of 'dum' biryani, this Kepsa is worth ordering)
The place is really nice in terms of taste but the quantity isn't that great. Talking about service, it's the area which needs a lot of improvement. Staff doesn't have any knowledge about the menu and recommends only what's high on price. Doesn't listen when you call which may spoil the mood but overall it's a place worth the money and worth visiting.

Food:- Food is great.. A must try over here is Raan Masala and Murg Mussalam. Raan Masala can very well suffice 4 people fully. .Fully loaded with thick cashew gravy with boiled eggs as accomplishment. Murg Mussalam comes in thick white and Red gravy which also suffice for 2-3 people..caramel custard is melt in mouth.. truly yummy...
Price:- Very Economic. You can plan to treat your bunch of friends here (Like what we do). It will not be too heavy on your pocket and your friends will love the Mughalai Treat.

This place will give you the best kebsa ever. Tried kebsa at many restaurants, but the taste of kebsa here is unmatched. Pricing is reasonable than many. And you gotta try chaap in starters.
Ideal is a family restaurant located around radio club, serving Arabic-Lebanese cuisine. Tried the Dabba Gosh was delicious and filling. Then opted for the famous Raan bhukari, perfectly cooked and tender mutton served in masala rice and potatoes. Finally tried the kheema masala which was a huge blunder.
In all a great place to try Arabic cuisine but not for those who love their spices.
Best raan biryani ever. That's all you need to know and to eat here. I hate mutton but this raan biryani made me forget my own name. It's succulent, delicious and amazing. Try it and you won't regret it.
This place is often visited by Arabs. It doesn't mean they serve Lebanese Food. Since their food is less on oil and spices a lot of Arabs prefer to eat here.

I tried the nawabi thaal. This contains 4 starters and two gravys. We replaced gravy with Raan kapsa. 4 starters includes seekh kabab which was just ok. Chicken crispy was good. Mutton chops was tasty, and chicken tikka was best among all. Raan kapsa was good however very mild.
After breaking our legs to garba at radio club. We straight away moved to ideal restaurant. They have both ac and non ac section. Being late we can only order biryanis so we placed for veg,chicken,prawns biryanis which were good. I will definitely go to try rann thali in near future. Quick service,tasty food,clean ambience & moderate pricing.

Ideal Restaurant is your go to place for the most succulent and tasty Raan Rice available in Mumbai . The food here is not very pungent and spices are mild which makes it even more better. My current favourites here are the Limbu Fudina juice, the Aab Gosht soup, the Raan Bukhari Rice Thali , the Mutton Seekh Kebab and Chicken Stambuli Pulao. Just writing this small and tiny recommendation made me all the more hungry. Happy Pigging Out !
PS: Please do yourself a favour and do not order common place things like Butter Chicken / Rashmi Kebab which you can enjoy in any other restaurant in Mumbai !@

There is a great satisfaction and a huge sense of hunger that gets you engulfed when the ghost, mutton comes right off with two fingers off the chaaf. The love of the same is unbelievable.

Location - Near Radio Club, Colaba.. very easily accessible, right next to Gulf Hotel.
Ambience - nothing much to boast off, typical old Mumbai mughlai joint set up..comfortable for families.. ladies and all.. have got both AC and Non-AC sections.
Food - AWESOME.. we ordered for Murgh Musallam and one Mutton Chap Rice Thaala..
Qunatity is too much.. one murgh musallam can suffice 2-3 people easily and it is one of the best Murgh Musallam i have had.. just delicious wd 2 sets of thick gravy in one platter.. one little spicy brown gravy and other white gravy.. to my surprise white gravy was superb (i am not a big fan of white gravy usually). Mutton Chap Rice was also very nice.. mutton pieces were tender and very well cooked.. Rotis were also very soft..
Service - SUPER FAST, staff is very courteous and service is super fast and best thing is food was served mast HOT.

We were staying at same hotel above this restaurant, food is good but quite expensive we order rice which good at taste but very less quantity which was not to serve for even 2people and we were 4. A family run restaurant that is peaceful despite the footfall of a lot of people. The owner is in no rush to ask you to leave as soon as you finish your tea. Generous, and patient staff as well.
I visit this place whenever I crave their Raan Bukhara Rice. I have never eaten anything else but I see people eating gravies and Chinese as well. The restaurant has a middle Eastern feeling with Arabs dining here often.
Good Staff, one of the best ever experienced at a food establishment. Restaurant is very clean and neat looking. The food tastes better. A great place for a fast meal. Good seating availability, and clean toilets . Service is fast. On the Main Road and parking available. Do try their famous chicken Arabic style.
