One of the best place for fish lovers. Had surmai fry which was super fresh super tasty and super crispy and on top of that very affordable rates. A must visit for fish lovers.
This is best place to eat authentic Maharashtrian food. The bombil Thali was just awesome. The bombil just melts in your mouth. Very nice cozy place with no frills and hifi decor which normally scares people away. Worth the price.
The bombil thaali here is possibly the best I've had in Bombay. Crisp on the outside and perfectly buttery inside, the fish was fresh and high quality. The clams (tisriya) masala is another stellar dish that's highly recommended. In true Malwani style, the food is spicy and delicious.
All in all, a perfectly unpretentious, honest little lunch home bang in the centre of the city. I'm glad places like this exist in the city.
This place serve only thali i.e. that is veg -non veg both. It's specially famous for fish. We had ordered surmai thali, Prawns thali, bhakri, vade and bombil. Tast wise perfect. It's not too big and always crowded so it's better to go little early. Fish lover must try.
Overall
Taste -4/5
Service-5/5
This review has been long over due. I've been a regular at Pradeep Gomantak for 5-6 years now. It's a no frills lunch home. It's all about the food here.
The rest can seat about 7-8 tables and they encourage sharing tables at the busy lunch hour. The service is quick.
Food wise
1. Thalis : the surmai or pomfret thalis are great value for money. The food is always fresh and hot. You can ask for more curry for your rice any time. Don't miss the soul kadi. 4/5
2. Bombil fry : my favorite. Always call for this. It's yummy melt in the mouth bombil. 5/5
3. Fried prawns : this usually ends up being shrimp. But the shrimp quantity is decent, hence all good 3.5/5
In short, grab a quick seafood thali at PG in Fort and you won't be disappointed at all. We paid about 400 per person and ate a LOT.
Ordered: 1 Bombil thali, 1 Surmai thali & 1 plate Mandeli fry (Total bill = Rs. 360/-)
Taste: Very tasty. Bombil thali had 6 fish pieces, crispy outside, soft inside; delicious home-like taste. Surmai thali was equally tasty with one piece of fish. Mandeli fry plate was 12 crispy crunchy fish pieces and we ate it non stop. Other items on the thali were: sol kadhi, chavli, respective fish curry, lemon, onions and chapati - all good. Simple food, similar to home-made meals.
Service: Quick
Ambience: Small, clean hotel with about 6 tables.
Value for money: Unbelievably cheap
Go here for lunch and relish the best thali you could ask for! If you're around Fort area, do not give this a miss! Specially if you're the lover of food more than the ambience!
This small Non-Ac joint in fort serves homely style thali which consists of 1 main dish (Chicken Sukha is what i tried) paired with rice, curry (rassa), couple of chapatis and solkadi.
The service here is quite good and the cost is light on your pocket so if you forgot your lunch at home, don’t worry and visit this joint.
fresh fish and tasty food...tasty mutton wade and bhakri. kokamkadhi is very awesome...reasonable rate and best place to eat feeling like eating home food.

Humble joint. Mouth watering thali especially the non veg one's. Cost is also low so once a week you can skip eating your homely food for a homely Maharashtrian thali. Do visit n enjoy
The place is usually crowded during peak hours of lunch time as the same is situated in the prime business center. PGB serves gomantak food which is originated from malwan/ coastal Konkan region. The seating arrangement is limited and rates are reasonably priced.
Their regular non veg thali is consisting of roti, rice, fish curry, Sol Kadi and chatni. Add On like Mackerel fish fry is costing Rs. 120/- for the entire Thali which is quite reasonable. Service is average and place is clean & well kept.
Ambience: Small restaurant, clean, non AC (with fans)
Food: Ordered Pomfret fry thali. Pomfret was fried crisp, solkadhi was good, didn't understand why was usal (sprouts) served with thali.
Service was quick, no extra charges for rassa (curry).
Total damage: ₹180.
Although not great, I found it value for money.
Being a Malwani, I know what good Malwani food is and trust me guys, this place serves one of the best!
All that on a budget too, we ordered for a chicken thali and bombil thali, also paplet fry(nice in size and fresh) All this costed us ₹410/-
The sol-kadhi was good too.
So, food:4.5(I might as well give it a 5)
Service: not rating, but good coz we're the only customers besides an American couple who came later
Ambience: 4/5 (hygienic and nothing to complain)

There is an unwritten rule every time I dine at South Mumbai's Fort and Colaba areas. I ensure I dine at a regional restaurant serving up some local food, or a restaurant that has endured the test of time and is a golden oldie! Enough time, money and calories are spent dining at trendy restaurants and hipster bars owing to their abundance in the suburbs - Lower Parel and beyond. Which is why my train rides to Churchgate are spent reading up on vintage eateries I haven't been to yet. While rambling around in the by-lanes of Fort, I followed my stomach and my heart in the direction of Ideal Corner for some Parsi 'bhonu'. Located right opposite Ideal Corner, is a tiny eatery that you'll miss if you blink, and that ends as soon as you enter. Pradeep Gomantak Bhojnalaya is your no-frills, average Gomantak joint that serves up home style food tracing back to the Goan Hindus. The food here is simple, hearty fare with a menu that focuses on doling out fish thalis to hungry office goers during lunch hours. This place is a dream for the pescatarian, but also does chicken and mutton thalis if you don't enjoy fish. Vegetarians, stay away!
Very small place crowded on weekends specially Fish size were too small and gravy was also watery... fried fish was also was also over cooked .
I fail to understand the 3.5 rating given here. For me its 4.5
A very satiable lunch with a bowl of rice, chapati, curry, solkadhi, an awesome chutney and extra awesome pomfret fry. For a budget pf 170. I mean its one of the few best things i have come across in mumbai. For someone like me who is a fish lover.
Cooking fish is a tough job n they know to do it best.
Gowmantak food is originally from malwan region of Maharashtra. Pradeep gomantak is a small bhojnalay(mainly serves thalis) in fort and very popular among the people working in nearby area since they serve simple , home style fresh food with limited menu and very economical.
This place is always busy and need to queue up to get a seat so always reach before 12:45pm for lunch or else have to share a table with others or maybe have to wait long.
The service is good and waiters are quick to take your order and serve you faster so that people waiting outside can be accommodated.
Food is very satisfying , simple and healthy. A thali has 2 chapatis, non veg curry, sol kadi, rice along with onions and coconut chatni.
I have tried almost everything here they have like sukha chicken, mutton, and lots of variety of sea food thali like pomfret, halva, shark, prawns etc. My all time favourite is shark/prawns curry & kokum kadi. The curry are quite spicy so taste of tangy kokum is must to have.
Overall it's a very popular to have a quick regular home style malwan food for lunch or dinner.
Fish and rice heaven, the taste of the sea in every bite, literally... Kolam kadhi was a new experience with a fishy coconut dal and fishier relish as accompaniments. They also have mutton and chicken but fish is my pick, yum fresh caught surmai and bangda, a perfect working lunch
A no nonsense aam aadmi eating place without frills & with total value for money, which means value for money.
Professionally served, amidst heavily crowded ambience, this is the food aamchi Mumbai craves for. Choose your meal, from seafood ( bangda, ravas, bombil, mandeli, pomfret, surmai, prawns, crabs) & the usual chicken/mutton ( gravy/sukha), gaboli (monsoon special, fish eggs - bengalis would easily understand & have an affinity to this).
I wish there were a dozen more such joints springing up all over the country each month, so that everyone could have access to and afford this wonderful meal.
may your tribe increase, Pradeep Gomantak!
Don't judge a book by its cover. Located opposite Ideal Cafe and adjacent to Modern Lunch Home, Pradeep is a meat lovers paradise. And pocket friendly too.
Crowded during lunch times from Monday to Friday, the most ordered dishes are their thalis - Fish (Options available), Chicken, Mutton and Egg. The menu offers serval more dishes at of course, pocket friendly prices.
Ordinary and 1950s Maharashtrian kinda Bombay restaurant..very basic place..
I was searching for Sandeep and found Pradeep haha..anyways can't risk lunch time so I get in andorserthe good ol'...
Surmai Fish Thali..
Fried surmai pc..
Thick Fish curry..Served 3 times..
3 chapatis..
Bowl of steam rice..
Sol kadi..
Onions and lime..
Finished it with a smack..
Cash paid Rs. 130.00
Walked a way to CST.. lovely nap on train ride..
Nothing can beat gomantaks for their Thalis..
Special in it's own way....
It's a typical gomantak restaurant.. Always crowded... Seating is a issue... You may also find it untidy!! But it's actually serves the purpose it is meant for.. Feeding pocket friendly food to people!! Fish ( I guess it was surmai) thaali was good! And surely do try GABULI (fish eggs) .. Best GABULI fry ever eaten!! Waiters are soft spoken and quick in service!! And inspite some flaw you will love the experience..
Pradeep Gomatak Bhojanalaya is a Spartan eatery offering fleshy fish and bony meat. Their patrons include a lot of senior citizens which explains why some of their preparations are nearly saltless – making the salt shaker one of the most sought-after item on their shared tables.
The fish (surmai fry) is immaculate, it is fresh, lightly fried and perfectly seasoned, the fish curry too has a nice bite to it – everything else you may like here should be considered a bonus.
The sumrmai fry rice plate had a fleshy surmai piece, fish curry (unlimited servings), sol kadi (insipid) and two moulds of rice. I called for a chicken masala which I didn’t like so much mainly because of the sliver of chicken on a ton of bones (seemed like I was served a 'dinosaur fossil' with chicken masala poured over).
This is a value for money fish place, and gets really crowded at lunchtime.
I’d like to visit again mainly for their fish curry.
How on earth did i ever miss this gem of a place in fort...i have always been to cafe ideal which is bang opposite to PGB and even yokos which is just 3 shops away...i came across this place after watching an episode of kunal vijaykars foodie on youtube n after that had to try it out...the place is no nonsense where you gotta share a table with a fellow diner but you will not mind as the food is totally worth taking such pains...The service is like a bolt of lighting...i ordered for a sukka chicken thali with fish gravy instead of chicken gravy...along with the thali opted for gaboli fry(fish eggs) for which you need to have an acquired taste but trust me once you have it you will be hooked on to it...the chk was mildly spiced n the chapattis were super thin...i prefer to have my rice with fish gravy n must say the gravy was super...but for me the star was my favourite gaboli fry which was perfectly fried not killing the taste of the eggs...its a total VFM so a must visit.FYI - fish eggs are only available in rainy season.Total bill only Rs.200
One of the cheapest places for great seafood in the Fort area. Very small restaurant with little space and very few tables but excellent tasty food. Quality and quantity is well worth the price so it is really good value for money. Chicken and mutton dishes are good too.
A good lunch place for office goers of fort...not much a place for ambience and all..
Prices are the big USP of the place...
Went alone so tried there Surmai thali....
Surmai was fresh and was properly fried ...Sol kari was good too...
Service is nice...

One of the most affordable places in Mumbai where you get fresh seafood. Its a small place, always full so one ought to be prepared to wait for 10-15 mins if you reach during peak lunch hour.
Fortunately for me, I went with a group n was privileged to try the crab, prawn, surmai and bangda thali. All of them equally delicious and filling!!! The gravy base is very tasty and unlike other places, not oily. Most of the thalis are priced anywhere between 70 - 130. Wat else can one ask for!!!
For those who aren't too fond of seafood, their mutton and chicken thali is equally good.
I went with my colleagues, on a lazy wednesday afternoon to Gomantak and the moment we reached there, our eyes popped out.. a queue long enough to give us a sunburn while waiting in the sun.
Don't go here if
1) you like to sit in a place and eat for 2 hrs chatting away merrily
2) you don't mind your neighbours elbow digging into your face while eating
Go here if
1) You love seafood
2) You like your food to be VFM
3) you give a damn to the decor/ambience as long as food is awesome!
Must try - Surmai fry, prawns fry, bombil rawa fry.
Avoid - Mutton, sol kadi
I am definitely going back to rest of the menu :) I don't think their is any point going early here as it will be crowded no matter what !
Just had their fried pomfret and surmai
Excellent preparation
The curry given along is too good
Not too spicy not too oily
Definitely worth a try
Its one of those places which offers a full meal at great prices. Its about value for money and a full happy stomach.
Its simple. I came to know about this place from Kalyan Kumar's blog. Having covered most of the Parsi joints of the city I decided to venture into the other cuisines which the city has to offer and Gomantak cuisine seemed like a fine choice. I was particularly interested since the cuisine which is from the southern part of Maharashtra reminded me of those fabulous thalis I have had at Malvan.
So finding the place is easy, its right opposide to Ideal Corner on Gunbow street .
Its a place which is for people who are busy and want a quick filling lunch. You share your table with other customer's enjoy your meal, pay and leave happy and satisfied.
The boards on the wall mentions a Non -English menu , so in case you do not know how to read in Hindi ask for the English menu. Its simple, you go for a meal and can try side dishes.
I tried their Chicken thali with a side of Bombil (Bombay Duck) . My food was served within 1 minute and I am not exaggerating. Lets be honest here - the food isn't out of the world but its a part of Bombay which one must experience. To be fair the chicken curry is as basic as it can be , a delightful one prepared with garlic and ginger and onions and tomato but a basic one , what made me really happy was this tangy fiery soupy dish which I thoroughly enjoyed with the Bombil fry. Now the Bombil fry on its own was a tad too salty for my taste but paired with that fiery tangy soup it gave pure comfort. Along with this there was a delightful coconut condiment which I loved because of the green chilies in it . Then there is a vegetable curry made the Gomantak way with curry leaves, ginger, chilies kokum etc
Beware their thalis come with a huge portion and the plate of Bombil had 6 to 7 bombil and as a result I was full to my ears when I paid Rs150 and came out of this humble , no nonsense eatery.
P.S. I went in for lunch at about 2:15 p.m and I was the only lady in the eatery except the owner.
This small eatery in Fort is quite obscure. I learnt about it and many others in Fort from Kalyan Karmakar's Food Walk during the Kala Ghoda Festival. Being an intern at the Bombay Stock Exchange, I've had the opportunity of trying out almost all of those places. But this one out here makes for a great value-for-money, especially for sea-food lovers. Being a Surmai fan, I went for the Surmai Thali. Every item served in it (especially the Surmai Fry, Tarri and the Sol Curry) was so delicious that I'm gonna go there again some time soon to try their Bombil / Bombay Duck Thali.
Tasty, delicious,........are few words that I can describe the lovely food at this place. The joint is Homely and has a comfortable atmosphere .
The owner Manisha is friendly and has a welcoming smile,. We had prawns thali, shell fish thali, bombil.
The food - was great and we enjoyed it..had been to this place for the first time and we bet we are visiting it shortly.
Being a small joint just besides Yoko sizzlers, this joint might not be noticed at first look.
It really fits ur budget and pet full mazza. Paisa wasool. Lovely food with budget...
