This is a restaurant that looks very ordinary from outside and inside, but its an authentic south Indian Tiffin restaurant. The food is traditional, simple, and yet tasty. I would recommend Podi Upma, Idli, Medu Wada, Batata Wada Sambar, Filter Coffee...all this at least for your breakfast feast. This being a traditional old restaurant, you cannot expect politeness from the staff and ambiance too. Visit this place, only for FOOD FOOD and only FOOD

Passed by this restaurant several times but never really noticed before. Nestled on the Malad station road it's easy to miss the place amidst the crazy traffic and hoards of people shopping or just passing through.

Visited the place this afternoon and the first thing i noticed is the place was completely packed. Navigated my way to a table which I shared with a fellow solo diner. In such places you end up sharing tables often so please don't be surprised. In fact I like such restaurants as the waiting time is usually low.
Visually it's a typical Udupi restaurant so don't expect anything fancy.

What I tried:-

Rava Masala Dosa - Crispy dosa and well flavoured masala served with chutney and sambar. The chutney was perfect but the sambar was a bit tangy.
Chaas - Just about average

Taste - 4/5
VFM - 4/5 (very affordable prices)

A good choice if you want to try some authentic south indian fare. Although the only down side to the place are the waiters. They seem like they've been working there for years but they clearly lack that friendly touch that takes any restaurant to the next level.

P.S. Their menu also mentions that Madras Cafe (Matunga) is their other branch in Mumbai.

If you are looking for an authentic south indian food, this is the place to go!
The nariyal chatni tastes like it has come straight from South. It has a really good hygiene standards and it is nearby the mall and the station. This makes it a busy place. The staff behaviour is also really good.
Now for the food:
1. Masala Dosa: It was very yummy and they put the masala very generously in dosa.
2. Tupa dosa: It was just like uttapa without the vegetables. I felt it was decent but masala dosa is way better.
3. Gajar ka halwa: This again was amazing and they put a lot of ghee in it!
4. Filter coffee: I like the coffee and the taste is good
5. Pineapple mosambi juice: This was definitely the highlight of a visit.juice was so refreshing and fresh that we ordered some again after we were done shopping.

Went here today morning with my friends.
It's just aside Malad station west.
It has delicious food and like amazing dosas.
All food items were amazing and perfect for breakfast.

I had idli and medu vada . Both were amazing and we'll cooked.
With them I had lassi, combined South Indian and Punjabi dishes which turned out good. Lassi was satisfying with idli and vada.

This restaurant has everything at affordable rates that too just aside station.

I visited this restaurant today morning for breakfast.

This restaurant is in Malad station west , this is the reason why it's highly crowded even on Sunday mornings.

They serve great South Indian dishes.

I had spicy cheese dosa which tasted like almost a pizza. Don't go on its name with word spicy, it wasn't that spicy but yaa it was cheesy. It was really great for a person who doesn't like to eat much spicy food in morning breakfast.
With this I had sweet lassi as a side drink. Lassi was really great and sweet.

It's time to explore some breakfast outlets, and so we are here at hotel gopal Krishna in Malad West. It's just 5 mins walk from Malad station. So we had an heavy breakfast so called our South Indian hit dishes. We had idli medu wada, rava masala dosa , onion uttapam & masala uttapam. We were just amazed by the taste . Medu wada was crisp and which made it taste even better. Talking about rawa masala dosa again a crisp layer of rawa and sabz of aloo makes it all time favorite . So guys this an perfect outlet to explore your lunch and gate a heavy start for the day . Guys explore this hidden gem of Malad West. You'll definitely enjoy it.

This is a simple & traditional South Indian cafe and is located right outside Malad station since last 80 years. It is famous for its quick service and daily special menu which includes variety of South Indian dishes.
We have been eating here since our childhood and some of their best dishes are worth mentioning.
Pesarettu Dosa - Dosa made from Moong daal batter served with diced onion stuffed inside it and sambar chatni.

Neer Dosa - it's a thin paper like Dosa made from rice batter and tastes really good. It's a simple yet delicious dish to have.

Vada sambar - Who doesn't like medu vada? Soft inside and crispy on the outside, this is one of the best Desi quick bite to have.

Mosambi juice - Mosambi juice in most of the places tastes bitter but this one was just perfect and refreshing.

Pineapple sheera - pineapple flavored delicious sheera made in Ghee, which makes it heavy.

Lemon juice - This doesn't need any description. It a simple yet perfectly energizing and refreshing drink which also helped us in digestion of all the above mentioned dishes.

It was a perfect breakfast I had in years. The place is quite simple. Nothing flashy. The taste and quality of their food speaks for them. Best!

So for all the foodies who are aware about “cafe madras” in matunga must be surprised to know that “Gopal Krishna” is the main branch which was started in 1936 by late. Shri. Gopalkrishna which was one of the iconic restaurants back then during British era and later in 1940 “cafe madras” was started. So now that you know the history of this place, let’s get back to food😀
This restaurant is situated at a walkable distance from Malad West station, easily accessible.
Small, clean, comfy ambience and extremely humble and courteous staff who guide you through their menu and specials available for that particular day which keeps on changing.
Traditional dishes served piping hot, fresh and that too at affordable rates.

We tried:
🔹Butter Podi Idli - Supremely delicious, hot idli’s topped with podi and dollops of ghee/butter, flooded with cocconut chutney is definitely a must try over here. Highly recommended 👍
🔹Neer Masala Dosa - We all must have tried plain neer dosa but the combination of soft neer dosa along with masala aloo sabji is truly amazing. If you are like me who loves her dosa to be soft and with masala sabji then this one’s for you.
🔹Bun Poori - Very famous breakfast dish from udupi (mangalore) which I had at Udupi some 5 years back and was surprised to see this being served in their special menu. You cannot miss this specific dish it’s that good. Highly recommended 👍. Though it is served with sambhar chutney but I would suggest you to try it with filter coffee, bliss😍
🔹Pineapple Sheera - Loaded with ghee, perfectly sweet with generous amount of pineapple chunks in every bite. Highly recommended 👍
🔹Filter coffee - Coming to a South Indian restaurant and not having filter coffee is next to impossible. Definitely recommend 👍
🔹Special mention for the sambar as it’s not the sweet variant which you usually get in an Udupi restaurant, infact it’s less tangy, refreshing and very tasty.

A small south indian restaurant hidden away on a busy street outside Malad station , Hotel Gopal Krishna, is a truly authentic south indian restaurant. It has simple infrastructure as they concentrate more on the food than on the surroundings. The prices of each dish is very nominal and affordable. The portion sizes of the dishes is also good enough. I must also mention about the quick and polite service by the waiters who are ready to assist.

We tried the spicy cheese masala dosa and it was one of the best dosas I've tried till date. The masala was blended nicely in the dosa and tasted really good. We also had the neer dosa which was absolutely soft and light. It went well with the sambhar. We then ordered a grilled sandwich that was toasted to perfection.

Net net a good place to try out real south indian food.

I ordered a thali that had a bhindi kisi sabji, dal, rice, rassam, a pumpkin curry, curd, 5 puris and fryums.
The whole meals is really good for one person to finish. Also the cost is very inexpensive.
The pumpkin curry was bad though! Except that every thing was very good 👍.

My colleagues had some more things.

Hotel Gopal Krishna is located near Malad station.... It is walkable from the station.....

One can have a quick bite of this place for morning breakfast specially, south indian breakfast....

Seating arrangements are well organised.....
The prices are economical

I tried spicy cheese masala dosa, it was ok in taste, the dosa was properly filled with all masalas but as the name suggest cheese masala dosa, the main ingredient cheese was a bit less.

Onion uttapam was a bit heavy dish. The base of the dosa was thick, served with sambar and green coconut chutney.... The sambar had the typical south indian taste..

Veg cheese toast sandwich- It was good in taste with lots of veggies, green chutney and liquid cheese...

Fresh fruit juices are also available here I tried pineapple fruit juice... It was very fresh and sweet

I also tried pineapple shreea - it was very tasty madhe in ghee. With fresh piece of pineapple...

Recently went to restaurant this afternoon for a lunch. Didnt order much but was pleased by the food and service.
The Ambience is good. I'd say it's great for a affordable family dining place. .
The juices and milkshakes were nice.
We first ordered a watermelon juice which is my must have in summer coz it prevents dehydration. The watermelon juice was followed by a chocolate shake and pineapple juice, all three of which was pretty good. In food we ordered:
1.Masala dosa
2.Sada dosa
3 cheese spicy dosa
4.Cheese sada dosa

Like I said It was a rainy afternoon so we decided to go light which was the right choice becoz the dosas were nice. This place is known its red tomato chutney which we couldn't get. Becoz it's only available on sundays.
The dosas didnt disappoint, pretty nice.
I'd say it's a good place to have a budget meal yet tasty.

Come out of Malad station and you will find this typical south Indian restaurant where entering into the restaurant you will feel the smell of filter coffee and idle dosa.

So after travelling thought to meet my hunger and went to Gopal Krishna. Ordered authentic moong dal dosa, juice, filter coffee, Puri bhaji and gajar ka halwa.

Service was very fast and food was amazing. Hotel is clean and people come here for breakfast or brunch. They have thalis for lunch and dinner with extremely reasonable price.

Do visit when you are near Malad West station. Stay fit stay health and enjoy food of India

Just returned from a heavy brunch at this place. We ordered a Pessarettu Dosa made of moong dal. It had a masala filling of golden onions and came with sambar and coconut chutney. We loved the chutney! The sambar had onion and pumpkin cubes in it.

Next, we had their Spring Dosa. We were expecting Chinese noodles to be stuffed inside, but it had mixed julienned vegetables, especially cabbage. I liked how they plated it.

We ordered a glass of Sweet Lime (Mosambi) Juice to wash down the dosas. Really liked the freshly squeezed juice!

Then, we had a plate of Poori Bhaji. The pooris were huge and 4 in number! That was too much for us. They were tasty though, and so was the potato bhaji.

We had to have some Filter Coffee to digest all the food. This is a classic here.

Finally, we had Gajar Ka Halwa for dessert. This had grated carrot in a thick milky base, quite unlike the North Indian style. We enjoyed the flavours though.

Before we left, we packed some Pulao Kurma, Idli and Rava Dosa for our parents back home. They also have the food a thumbs up.

The price is very reasonable, and the place is neat and clean. We were very happy with the quick service and the courteousness of our server.

Recently visited this place without any planning. We were here for some shopping but rains made us stop at this place. We ended up ordering few things as food is always welcomed.
1. To start with we ordered hot and crispy mendu vada along with Idli. This are the most favourate part of south indian food as they are yummy and delicious. Idli was nicely fermented and was hot. The vada was not so oily which made it even better. They had server some coconut chutney along with hot sambharr which was tasty as well.
2. Next we tried spring Dhosa : It was not at all what i had expected. It was filled with cabbage and some beet root. Not recomended at all. Spring dhosa is not this what we got.
3. Batata Wada : Its mumbai + Rains. One must surely try this. It was nice but they didi not have any other chuttney so we ate with the coconut chutney. It was Not bad.
4. Pineapple sheera : South Indian restaurants does not serve varietyin desserts so we were left with only one option. The sheera was not available but the hotel manager managed to prepare some for us. It was tasty as well.
5. We also tried Lassi : It was sweet as needed along with some sour taste which actually enhances its taste.

So overall its nice for some dishes. So would recommend for dine in as well as ordering online. People go ahed.

This is a pure veg restaurant located very close to the Malad station.
Starting with Idli Butter Pudi. They give good 2 big pieces of idlis covered in chutney and topped with Malgapuri powder. The Sambhar is given differently. It was good in taste and is recommended. We ordered ginger lemon beverage and Kokam sharbat. Really liked the kokam sharbat. In dosas, we ordered Ragi masala dosa. The masala was good in quantity and can be eaten between 2 people. It is served with sambhar and chutney. You can order extra sambhar and chutney. Next was the Pulao Kurma. It comes with the pulao filled with lots of peas and small ingredients. The kurma is like a bhaji and can be ordered more once finished. Also, the pickle is served with the kurma. The dish was good in taste and can be had as a meal for one person. Next was the tuppa masala dosa - the main dish. It was made in ghee and not oil and this tuppa masala dosa is heavy and can be had between 2 people. It is having a thick dosa like uttapam filled with lots of ingredients which includes onions, etc and masala inside the dosa. This dish is recommended. It again comes with sambhar and chutney. Last but not the least payasam was ordered and it was filled with sevai and also is called sevai kheer. It was good in taste. Overall experience was alright as the service was okay. The ginger lemon beverage was bitter in taste and I personally didn’t like it very much. But if you wish to have South Indian dish then this is the place to be near Malad Station.

Gopal krishna as hyped being an old restuarant thought to visit this place. This place is small outlet near malad west railway station with decent sittings. Nothing great with ambience as such.

Food:-
Spicy cheese dosa* :- This is probably one of the best of its kind i ever ate. Dosa wad filled with cheese and was a lot spicy tasting to its best. Sambhar and chutney was served along. Sambhar also had proper flavour. Definately a must try.

Madras dahi misal:- This is one of the famous dish here but i found this dish very bad. Misal was not so great and topped with curd which made farsan in it soggy to taste so this is not worth a try.

Rava sada dosa:- This we ordered without experiencing something new. This stayed upto the expectations.

Mosambi juice:-This was as usual refreshing.

Service:-
Service here was good as server suggested best dishes and also very helpful. Order comes to table in no time.
Definately to visit this place

If you’re craving for quick bites , authentic South Indian dishes , here’s a perfect spot . Hotel Gopal krishna serves some of the authentic quick bites options along with beverages.

This place is close to station , easily accessible. It is running since 1936 , don’t expect fine dine but expect authentic South Indian dishes . Simple and short menu , the decor is average but the quality is simply amazing .

WHAT I HAD

1)ONION MYSORE RAVA DOSA - loved it ! Crispy dosa consists of chopped onion and green chillies . it had rice flavour, served with coconut based chutney and sambar . Tasted on point , nice crispy dosa with coconut based chutney is worth to try out .

2)APPAM & VEG STEW - this was something new to me , a vegetable curry served with appam . the curry includes carrot , beans , coconut milk and curry leaves . the combination really went well , a bit sweet taste , appam tasted delicious as it was fermented in coconut water . Over all something different to try out .

3)TUPPA ONION MASALA - yet another superb combination, tuppa onion masala tasted delicious. It has urad dal mixture , chopped onion and potato bhaji. Tasted on point , definitely a worth to try out .

4)RASAM VADA - had a nice texture to it , served with hot sambar. Tasted well , quantity was also sufficient. Coconut based chutney tasted well . Pretty good quality at reasonable price .

I had madras filter coffee which was simply amazing. Probably the best way to end an happy meal . Pretty good experience at this place , food was on point . Small place but good place to have South Indian dishes .

Opposite 'The Mall' on Malad west station road is this authentic South Indian restaurant running since 1936. Known for its South Indian Dosas and Idlis, this restaurant truly believes in keeping original recipes alive.

All food is cooked in ghee and the Sambhar is the real deal since it is not overly sweet but well balanced combination of flavors.

Food-
Madras Missal-a combination of Maharashtrian Missal served with Sambhar. An amazing fusion.

Masala Uttappam- The Dosa batter is fluffy and well made and the masala inside is perfectly cooked.

Pessarettu Dosa- This is dosa made from moong dal, but that does not steal away the flavour of the    dosa. If you are looking for something on the healthier more nutritious side, definitely try this one.

Dessert;
Pineapple Sheera- This is my personal favorite as this is perfectly made. The sheera and the pineapple flavor are well balanced and the ghee just makes it better.

Drinks-
Maramari Juice- This is a combination of Pineapple and Sweet Lime Juice perfectly made. I would suggest ordering this without sugar as both the fruits balance each other out.

I was served by Gopi who was so kind and prompt even though he was on his toes due to other customers.

If you have followed any of my South Indian food restaurant reviews you'd know I'm always excited for Rava Sada/Masala Dosa. I love them and I love the places who know exactly what I want - crispy dosas and full of flavour Sambhar.

This place has been my favourite every time I go visit my friend. Very close to the station and very economical in times when food prices are soaring. Don't expect fine dining, but expect real good food every time. Their Rava Masala Dosa doesn't look anywhere close to what a real one is, but their potatoes are very nicely mashed and have the perfect amount of seasoning. Another favourite on my menu is their Raagi Dosa, it comes dripping in butter and has an unmatched taste. Despite the butter, I'd like to believe I'm having something supremely healthy and that too at just 70 bucks. I also have had the chance to munch on their Pesarattu Dosa, which is just as delicious as their Raagi Dosa. Very filling and comes stuffed with fried onions. And of course, they do have their evergreen Pineapple Sheera that seems to be quite the hit amongst one in every five people that stop by.

Drop by for a quick snack before you head out to travel, shop, or simply wish to munch some delectable South Indian food.

Gopal Krishna cafe.

I visited this place around the time of evening. It was pretty packed. First I ordered medu vada. I was very very disappointed with it. I didn't taste as good as I wanted. That's just what I think. But the butter idli PUDI was soooo soo tasty. Idli was very soft and it melted in my mouth as soon as it entered. It's a must try dish from this place.

Dont go by the ambience of this hotel , i can say it serves the best and most authentic food in mumbai.

It is a subsidiary company of Madras Cafe.

One must eat idli wada sambhar daalke , rasam vada , filter coffee , spring dosa and all their rice items.

Its just amazing if your a true foodie. The waiters here dont give a damn who you are. But thats ok since the food is at its best.

Must visit.

An all time favorite family destination since 2013...Close to Malad West substation, this place comes out high on visibility parameters once you take an exit to SV road.
Run by a family which also owns a similar named restaurant at Matunga & has the famous Raj Kapoor clan to its list of regulars.
To start with their Rasam Vada & Rasam Papad dishes are a good starters over the regulars of MEdu Vada & IDli Sambhar.
Dosa's in every taste & variety come in huge range. Ragi dosa can not be given a miss & specially the plain one.
Other specialites are upma, rawa dosa, poori bhaji, bisebeli bhaat.
Dahi vada is a good accompaniment that compliments the spicy effect of sambhar & rasam.

If u r lucky than do try to ask for Karachi Halwa that comes in packed state & can be carried back home too.

This joint comes as a cool option for Breakfasts & early evening snacking which carry a potential to help you skip the following meal too.
Budget restaurant with pocket friendliness is the key attraction of this place.

It's like any other Udipi restaurant. Ambience is average but found it to be clean.
We had masala dosa, onion tomato uttapam and idli vada mix. All items were tasty and fresh. Vada could have been more crispier but no issues. Idli was soft and hot. I did not like sambar much but coconut chutney was too good. Quantity was decent. Service was average.

Please visit this place once in a lifetime.I ordered set masala which cost me around 70 Rs which is very economical if you want to eat an authentic south indian(Matunga type) so visit Gopal Krishna.Basically set masala dosa is very filling. It is an uttapam which is spreaded with their spicy tomato chutney and their potato masala and another same uttapam. All this you get in only 70 Rs so please pay a visit there. They also have dry Chatni which cost 10 RS which goes very well with that.So order set masala dosa whenever you go there

You'll find authentic South indian food only here! The taste is super amazing. The dosa are really very good here. I love the rasam here, it's very tasty and only this place has made it the right way you'll not find it this same rasam anywhere else. The medu vada and sambhar are also very nice. The hotel is kinda small but it's known for the quality of food. Bisibelle rice is my favourite. Don't judge the hotel by its ambience, the food will certainly please you and would make you want to visit again.

Found my love for south indian food all over again after visiting this place.

A couple friends and I stumbled upon this place on a Saturday after getting off the train. It didn't look too busy inside and we only ended up waiting about 15-20 mins for a table. Once you get inside it's not super fancy or decorated, but who cares when the food is delicious.

I had the tomato onion utappam after asking the waiter which one was most popular. It came out on a classic metal pan with sambar and chutney. This thing was seriously DELICIOUS. The sambar was not sweet but spicy and sour. Just the way i like it. It filled me up pretty neatly. To top it up when in an udupi/south indian restaurant always go for the filter coffee. These guys really know how filter coffee is made. It was epic.

Easy on the pocket, hygienic, quick service, epic food. What else does one need.

Have literally grown up visiting Hotel Gopal Krishna.
Some of my favorite dishes here are:
- Idli/ Medu Vada Sambhar
- Mysore Sada Dosa (one of the few places that actually uses a different batter for the mysore dosa)
- Rasam Vada
- Pineapple Sheera (must have)
- Bisibele Rice
- Fresh Ganga Jamuna Juice

Almost all the South Indian dishes are a delight to eat including kadhi vada, curd rice, etc.

Have seen many regulars eating their lunch thali- never tried but seems popular.

Their green chutney is awesome.
The quality has definitely changed over the years. I miss the original taste it offered in the 90’s.

Off late there has been large variation in dining experience. At times it’s excellent and at times just about average. But still, one of the best options in this part of the town for authentic South Indian fast food.

Ambience is basic and clean and always had good staff.

I recently visited Gopal Krishna South Indian Cafe and had a delightful experience. The menu offers a wide variety of traditional vegetarian South Indian dishes such as dosas, idlis, and uttapams. They also serve lunch and dinner, and even have Jain food options available. The coffee they serve is impressively strong and tasty. The staff at the cafe were friendly. Although the ambiance was simple, the place was clean and well-maintained. Bonus: it's close to Malad station! Overall, I highly recommend this place.

We went to enjoy south of India’s food. It turned out to be one of the best places I had South Indian food. We ordered butter dosa, rawa masala dosa, rassam wada and filter coffee. Everything was perfect in its taste. If you are looking for an authentic South Indian cafe around Malad, then this is the place. Just know that the place is around railway station so most of the time you will have to wait outside for your turn. 15-20 mins waiting in peak hours.

So now that you know the history of this place, let’s get back to food😀 This restaurant is situated at a walkable distance from Malad West station, easily accessible. Small, clean, comfy ambience and extremely humble and courteous staff who guide you through their menu and specials available for that particular day which keeps on changing. Traditional dishes served piping hot, fresh and that too at affordable rates. We tried: 🔹Butter Podi Idli - Supremely delicious, hot idli’s topped with podi and dollops of ghee/butter, flooded with cocconut chutney is definitely a must try over here. Highly recommended 👍 🔹Neer Masala Dosa - We all must have tried plain neer dosa but the combination of soft neer dosa along with masala aloo sabji is truly amazing. Though it is served with sambhar chutney but I would suggest you to try it with filter coffee, bliss😍 🔹Pineapple Sheera - Loaded with ghee, perfectly sweet with generous amount of pineapple chunks in every bite. Highly recommended 👍 🔹Filter coffee - Coming to a South Indian restaurant and not having filter coffee is next to impossible. Definitely recommend 👍 🔹Special mention for the sambar as it’s not the sweet variant which you usually get in an Udupi restaurant, infact it’s less tangy, refreshing and very tasty.

If you are looking for an authentic south indian food, this is the place to go! The nariyal chatni tastes like it has come straight from South. It has a really good hygiene standards and it is nearby the mall and the station. This makes it a busy place. The staff behaviour is also really good. Now for the food: 1. 4. Filter coffee: I like the coffee and the taste is good 5. Pineapple mosambi juice: This was definitely the highlight of a visit.juice was so refreshing and fresh that we ordered some again after we were done shopping.

A suppeeer experience! It was an authentic + rich + homely taste, normally what we expect from south Indian dishes. Today we had few breakfast items as below: 1- Filter Coffee (aroma of coffee was 💞) 2- Butter Idli Podi. - A good amount of butter in it - It just gets melts in your mouth and explodes all the three tastes one by one (Idli, Coconut chutney, and Podi) - But it might get a little heavy for one person for opting whole plate in one go, If further you are planning to order more few dishes as well (plate has two idlis in it.) 3- Onion uttapam (I specifically requested to make it spicy, so they add little extra chilies init which I love it. 4- Even I feel so tomato-onion uttapam will taste more good. If you guys are going for lunch, you can order as above mentioned or else you can relly on the below list: 1- Tuppa Masala Dosa 2- Pulav Kurma 3- Puri Bhaji Dessert: 1- Pineapple Sheera (All time favourite) 2- Payassm (if it's available) Notes: Opening time is from 08:30 a.m onwards No Parking facility but you can park at the nearby Mall - which is exactly in front of the Hotel . If you are a social distance freak - Morning time is for you !!!

Gopal krishna as hyped being an old restuarant thought to visit this place. This place is small outlet near malad west railway station with decent sittings. Nothing great with ambience as such. Food:- Spicy cheese dosa* :- This is probably one of the best of its kind i ever ate. Service:- Service here was good as server suggested best dishes and also very helpful. Order comes to table in no time. Definately to visit this place
