Visited Café Madina after almost 9 years. Used to love this place when I was in college and this visit bought back some good memories.
This is a small, pocket friendly, no bullshit just food, kerela restaurant in Mahim. This was the place that introduced me to Porotha (Malabar paratha) and Malabar beef masala.
Visited this place at 8 in the morning and I was happy to see that this place was all set to serve us with some hot and tasty grub immediately. I immediately ordered a couple of beef roast/chilli, appams, porothas and egg masala. It was served to us within minutes. The taste was as amazing as the last time I had been there and I could not help but grinning the whole time. They also offered us complimentary curry/gravy which was tasty enough to have with the appam/porotha by itself. In order to try something different, I also ordered some puttu and I was happy I tried it out.
With our stomach full, we finished it off with some cutting chai and Kerela bananas.
A must visit for each non vegetarian in Mumbai.

It was well cooked and extremely delicious, something that will give you a nostalgic feeling of Kerala.

Marina and Sneha is my go to whenever I miss my moms food back home in Kerala. Beef double fry and Porotta is to die for! It is my comfort food as a fellow Malayali to have Puttu and Cherupayar curry with pappadam and pazham for breakfast or to have some Kanji when I fall sick. This is small joint in Mahim near Paradise Theater. Its a good place for meat and fish eaters. I like their Surmai or Banga fry and Chicken Sukka which is more like Chilli Chicken. It's a nice budget friendly place.
The food is pretty good here. The parotta and beef are really good. The biriyani is also decent if you're looking for some good Kerala food.
I ordered Parota and prawn fry along with Kappa biryani....Kappa biryani wasn't that memorable but prawn fry was good.... prompt service and good staff.

Since I had a heavy breakfast I could only try the beef fry with porota.
Service was prompt and the beef was also up to par. A little chewy but filled with flavour. It is paired with an orangish gravy which makes the entire dish a complete 10/10.

The lunch menu is elaborate with red puffed rice, rasam, sambar, dal and butter-milk. However the key attraction for me is the Kappa Biriyani coupled with chaaya. The malayalam expression for the quality of the chaaya here is, Kidillan!!

Located at Mahim, is known by me as the kerela toddy shop of Mumbai. Except serving Toddy they serve extremely delicious kerela food at reasonable rates.
Me and wife always ordered the porata and beef chilli fry which reminds of my delicious kerela porata and beef.
We also ordered the prawns fry and the aila fish (english Mackerel fry) really yummy...
To sum it all it truly a kerela experience those of you who are home sick..
In the search of cheap lunch place, we stumbled upon (Through zomato :p) Madina at Mahim opposite Paradise Theatre.
The first impression I got from the place was not so welcoming. You have to check the available menu from the wall and decide. After that I tried to give my order to one waiter who looked at me, heard me and then ignored me because probably it wasn't his table to serve.
But another pleasant waiter came and immediately brought our order. We ordered Chicken Masala, Fish Curry(Surmai) with Chapatis.
It was nice. Chicken was soft and the masala was tasty. Surmai was hard to find in that strong flavoured curry but I yet it was overall tasty.
This was only the second time I was trying the Malabari food so I was not sure about what to eat. Next time I'd love to try out Parothe and Beef Fry.
Just for the taste of the food I'd give more points but Madina has to work on their service and ambience.
Recommended for the different taste of Kerala cuisine at probably the cheapest rates.

When you feel homesick and just want some beef fry to soothe your soul. This is the place to go! You will be transported to Kerala in an instant. And the food is just amazing.
Heard about this place from my friends and decided to pay a visit. Their offerings were delicious. They have Beef Chilly which is really good. But, I liked their prawns the most. Nothing much about the ambience. And their prices are dirt cheap. 4 of us had our fill and it amounted to only INR 660. That's real cheap. A must visit
Tasty Kerala style food is served in this tiny hotel on LJ Road opposite Paradise Cinema. One of those quick turnover places with nothing much to say for ambiance, but boy do they make up for it with the food! Love the chicken masala, egg roast, fish curry and biriyanis. You can have a real feast here for less than Rs400.

I was craving their appam and egg roast so I decided to go there. Had the Appam and beef chilly and rice with fish fry. They gave us two additional curries and Sambhar along with that . And an unlimited supply of papadams. Hearty meal it was. Will go back again, like always for their appam and egg roast :)
It's got to be one of the simplest yet tastiest meals I've had in a long time. Absolutely delicious food at unbelievably low prices. The beef chilly here is to die for.

Another kerala eatery two shops away from a similar sneha restaurant! What's in it for foodies... a superbly delicious chicken biryani! Not too spicy or oily, with just the right amount of tanginess and spice...a must-try! And for the vegetarians there is a similar vegetable biryani too! Kerala special kappa bhaji is on the menu here- a dry vegetable of tapioca. And a unique kappa biryani, that mixes beef with tapioca. Not any sweet options for lunch and dinner but a chai-time smack like banana fry, dal vada, a savoury sweet snack with dates...all keep rotating on different days of the week.
Some limited veg options of soya, dal and get of the day are also quite good. Recommend a visit or home delivery in the vicinity.
Finally got the chance to order from here. Impressive! The food quality is upto the mark and too good. We ordered Surmai Fry, Malabari parathas, chicken sukka, Fish curry and rice. The delivery hardly took an hour and food was still hot and fresh. This place is now one of my favorites when it comes to sea food. Above all the prices are quite pocket friendly and quantity of the food is also justified. Must visit if you love sea food.
The beef chilly is hands down one of the yummiest things you can get from here. Absolutely full of flavour, this is home cooking at its most delicious. Can't recommend trying this more!
Heard a lot from my dad & mom about Madina's Kerala Foods Speciality. So on sunday decided to go Mahim dargah with friends & atlast I finally got a chance to go 2 Madina Hotel. Ordered Paratha n Appam with Mutton Masala it was perfectly made in Kerala style it was really fingerlicious. Then we ordered rice n Fish Curry with Bangda fry. It was upto the Mark this all the dishes which i tasted here were excellent. Ambiance doesnt matter if the food is good..

In the times of fast food, this place is a stark reminder of days bygone and is a relish to the appetite and peace of mind (thankfully, the place itself was not crowded) in a place like Mumbai. Once you enter, it seems a different world altogether - white tiled walls with people drinking tea or gorging on the food, it seems as if the time has slowed down (a respite from all the fast movement happening outside). Coming to the food and like the place it maintains the look and taste of the food as of more traditional with its porotha (which is an extreme delight to eat) and meat (chicken/mutton) items served as two separate items - a dry one (something like fry or chilly) and a spicy curry (without meat pieces). The taste is not exactly finger licking but it is more of a routine food which we expect at our homes and therein, lies its beauty. Overall, a place to be visited often for that feel of food which is missing in the new upcoming fast food food places around us.....

Ordered lunch today as heard about this from sone friends. Went with the Beef Double Fry and malabar parathas. For a meagre Rs. 150/-, I must say the portions were more than adequate!! Not only did they send the order, they also sent some gravy along with the order- appreciated that!! Overall, the beef dish was of superb taste- pieces a little fatty but cooked to tenderness, the gravy was flavorful and the malabar parathas although cold, were still easy to chew. Bit stretchy so maybe lighten up on the Maida next time. If you live or work around this place, do give it a whirl!

Madina cafe is a small and budget place for great Kerala cuisine especially the beef chilly fry and kappa (tapioca) beef biryani. They also serve a good fish fry and gravy which goes well with either the red rice or malabari porotha. The Kerala style desserts are great too.

Enjoyed beef chilly fry with porotta (a little ritual I had with a college mate) a few million times pre-beef ban... That didn't stop me though.... I was forced to try their mutton masala.... This place is epic. Two words...beef chilly. Typical Kerala style beef chilly which should be had with the malabar parota. It can't get better than this. Besides this their biryani is pretty good and so is their fried fish. If you like spicy Kerala food, this is paradise!!

If you are bored of those regular takeouts, can't think of a flimsily topped Dominos pizza to chomp, or are bored to death of Chinese, drop in here. The place is small, but the food is good.
Like we always did, go for the kuttu arii (pronounced coo tu - a ree, meaning pounded red rice), plain fish curry, and papad. The curry will have no fish so ask for one if you want. Order for a fry surma (kingfish) along. Then get your hands messy and eat.
Also try the beef. They cook it spicy and real well. Their parotha is the perfect accompaniment for it. The fish curries are also nice but the fries (except the kingfish) can get too dry and overdone at times.
If you want your jaws to be more muscular, try their chicken. The time and energy spent in chewing it will sure give you a jaw like Schwarzenegger.
Like to try something novel? Go for the kappa (pronounced cup-pa). It's tapioca roots cooked with salt and turmeric. Since it can be a little dry, have it either with beef or fish curry. I strongly suggest you do.
Wash all this down with a Sulaimani (the Muslim name for hot lemon tea). It helps.
Since the place is small, lunch time can be a packed affair. You can either wait or hop into Sneha which offers the same fanfare. And yes, this place is great for the girl gang too.

Madina has an interesting menu with Kappa,tapioca,in the veg option and Kappa biryani,the tapioca and beef mix which is a thick curry and should be had with parotas.For the serious meat eaters,kappa biryani will disappoint, but the mutton masala will not. Also a reco dish is the mackeral curry. This soft fish with centre bone is good with another speciality,the boiled brown rice. If you are tempted to try the chicken Sukka ,avoid. yesterday wished to have some Malabari breakfast...visited after years...still the same.Its an unassuming place but still clean and hygenic..service is as usual good but without smile...Ordered Putt, Chana Masala and one appam....Still the same taste....and at awesome price Rs.42/...U have to come here for good Malabari food....they serve fresh surmai and bangda for lunch at unbelievable prices...for surmai u have to come before 2pm...otherwise it would not be available
