When it comes to me and my whole family thinking about non veg food near us it's always malvan katta. The food is fabulous 👌. Quality and price of the food is also good. All my friends and family love going there.
I love the Mutton Thai and Kolambi Masala. The portion size is good for a Thali and it's worth the price. They have a friendly staff who would recommend you various types of dishes. If you want to avoid waiting in a queue, you need to walk-in early, as it's completely based on first come basis.
If you want to have an Authentic Malvani meal then Malvan Katta is the Place.
One of the cheapest and best places for malwani places in town. You might undermine the taste from the ambience but that would just be judging the book by its cover. I ordered the surmai and promphet thali and also the prawns thick gravy.
The prawns gravy is so flavourful. It will actually overpower everything you've eaten prior.
Simple restaurant with nice food. Soul curry was awesome and just perfect in taste. Fishes were fresh and crisp fried. Loved chicken wade as well. Value for money!

One of the best Crab Thali's I have ever had in Goregaon! Next, to Udipi, this small restaurant is a jewel of a food spot. Other than the thalis, the Bombil fry and Prawns Sukka are incredibly delicious and worth giving a shot.
Having lived all my life in Goregaon East, I don’t know how I missed this place. It doesn’t attract much attention. But its a quaint little place that serves really great Malwani food at very reasonable price. We ordered Mori ( Shark ) curry plate ) , egg bhuji and prawns fry. Mori was great, not too spicy. They have an inviting menu for future visits.
I would like to add that service was excellent. A small place that offers what it promises. Tasty good food. For those who expect ambience, you might be disappointed.

This little simple place is located on the way to the Goregaon station (east) and opposite to Udipi Vihar. They can house a few good no.of people and sometimes will make you share your table with other patrons.
We had ordered for a Prawns Thali and Pomfret Thali. You really can't go wrong with it when you step into a malvani restaurant. The thali consists of solkadi, gravy, fish/prawn curry, fish/prawn fry, 2 chapati and rice and served along with onion, lemon and red chutney. For any extra chapatti you get charged for it.
The quantity was better than satkar but the gravy wasn't. There was something missing and I couldn't really point it out. The fish fry was really good. The semolina/rava coated fish, you can't go wrong with it.
The prawns fry was good and the prawns in the curry was really soft and melted in your mouth.
The food was good and the service was also good. They were very prompt in the service and nice.

Let me start with the word "Awesome" I'm sure we are well versed with the saying 'never judge a book by its cover' This place stands true for this wise old saying. I looked at this place from outside and it looked like a very small roadside hotel hence was skeptical to step in. However I was totally bowled over with their food. It just took my taste buds to a different world. We had surmai thali, komdi vade and crabs. All three had different taste and they were mouth smacking. A nice & pocket friendly option near to the Goregaon east station. A simple no frills joint, Malvani Katta is very close to the famous 'Satkar Rice Plate'. They have just about 6-7 tables, but that is more than enough as the food is served quickly and you might also have to share the table with other patrons. I normally go their to have their typical Malvani ' Sukkha Chicken Thali.
Starters:
Bombil Fry- Bombil also known as 'Bombay Duck' is one my favorite malvani starters wherever i go and thankfully this place did not disappoint me . Shallow fried crispy Bombil fry in rawa (semolina coating) with the green chutney was a perfect way to start the meal.
Surmai Fry- The decent sized shallow fried Surmai pc with green chutney. Typical Malvani rawa fried batter.
Chicken Sukkha Thali - The reason why i like to have the sukkha chicken here than Satkar is becoz of the spices. The chicken is as called in marathi 'Jhanjhaneet' i.e spicy.The Malvani spices used to prepare the thick gravy goes perfectly with Kombd wade and rice.
Kombdi Vade (Malvani Vade) - Hot pipping Malvani vade now known as the Kombdi vade as it perfectly fits with the Chicken Curry.
Sol Kadi - Made of Coconut Milk & Kokam, No Konkani / Malvani meal is complete without the Sol kadi. It has its nutrional values & supposed to be drunk post meal for digestive purpose.
I like this place and often come here for a quick lunch. If you do like Malvani food, you should give this place a try. But if you are too fussy about the ambiance thenit might not suit your taste.

A great discovery for those who are looking for taste rather than ambience. Simple, no frills basic Malvani Food. The Gauti (Country) Chicken was genuinely Desi. The Teesriya (Clam) fry was better than the extra oily and spicy Sukka. The medium size pomfret just right for one person. Tuck it in with Rice Bhakri and those who can afford the extra calories - the Vadas. Seal the deal with a glass of Sol Kadi to appease the conscience.

* Veg biryani was tasty and was served with moong curry, chutney, kokum kadi (konkani kokum drink) and papad.
* Kolambi plate consist of one bowl rice, one chapati/bhakari/wade,bowl of fish curry, a plate full of dry prawns chutney, 9 to 10 pieces of fried prawns, chutney and kokum kadi.
* Tisrya plate consist of same as above except dry chutney of prawns was replaced with dry tiisrya chutney.
Foodiemanzlife It was sudden plan after client meeting. You can not deny the treat as the name itself suggest you what's in store. 'Malvan Katta' stands 4.5/5 with it's delicious see food recipes. We have ordered our all time favorite Surmai with Vade, the ultimate combination that you should try at least once in your life. Prawns Biryani is like cherry on top of the cake.
Overall clean premise, best see food and best buddy means the perfect treat. Loving this place and eager to go once again to explore more see food cousine.

This little restaurant is amazing by all means. I go there very often. It's a small, non ac place but always clean and free of stink. Their crab masala thali and bombil fry are my favourites to recommend. They also have amazing prawns, tisrya etc. The best part about having fish thali is the sol kadi, a delicious yet digestive drink, and this restaurant has one of the best sol kadis ever! Go on, give this one a try, and trust me, you won't regret it!

One of the best places to go for if you love malavni food. A very tiny place located in goregoan east easy to miss and nothing fancy when it comes to decor or seating,simple and clean. I am very picky about eating sea food outside and this place serves the freshest fish. Surmai , mandeli , prawns , pomfret all are amazing. The fish thali include a decent sized fried fish and a piece of fish in gravy, roti and rice.Do order their dry chicken thali. They serve their food with a orange garlic chutney which is amazing. Their kokum sherbet is also good. The place can get pretty crowded sometimes and you might end up sharing a table with someone.
P.s theres no ac and its a very cramped place , combined with the kitchen being right there with almost no exhaust dont visit during summers.

I had lunch with colleague yesterday. We had order for chicken & fish, all the dishes were delicious. Chicken sukha fry was just perfect & Vada was very light & crispy. Loved the bombil fry, very delicately spiced fish & cooked to perfection.
The best part was prawns Bhat. It was very flavoursome indeed. Must try.

Got to know about this place today and went there immediately..
Blissful food.. Felt tript after my lunch.. Nothing much to talk about the ambience. Small 7-8 table place. Quick service. Told the guys to make it spicy and surely they did!! Let's come to the fabulous food we had today...
Mutton Thali- came with 2 chapati, a mutton curry and Mutton sukha with plain furry and Solkadi.. Both Mutton Sukha and furry had good pieces of Mutton, tender n juicy both distinctly diff flavours.
Prawns pulao- loaded with medium sized prawns. Outstanding and totally different from what I have had ever before.
Crab sukha- small crab but full of meat. Yumm thick gravy.
Mutton dry fry- this was average. Too much of onion tomatoes I suppose. Can be avoided.
Wada- the multigrain pooris were yumm though not the best I have had
Solkadi- special mention for this one. Fabulous
My point- don't go there to eat if ur not a foodie. This place is for people looking for food and nothing besides great food.
We had 5 different types of curry/masala preparations.. Very unusual to find all 5 had a distinctly different taste. Very rare in big or small both types of eateries.. Usually there is standard 2-3 types curry made and those are added as per the meat served. But here each one was different.. Found it fantastic. Hats of to the chef

Nice and tasty Malwani food. Among all the Malwani restaurants i have been to in Mumbai this one is the most pocket friendly and value for money restaurant. Ordered a surmai and mushi thali. The pompfret fry was superb and so was the bombil fry. Meal for 2 costed around 700rs.
Please do not expect anything fancy here but its clean and tidy place to eat.

For all the Non vegetarian ppl this the best place to dine in. Whether it is a Malvani Fish or Chicken Thali they are tasty, juicy, tender and fresh. When it comes to taste its like paisa vasol in other words "mouth watering delicious..!!" Ambience is simple and hygien & service is quick. I m loving it....!! :)

Very near to my house could be one reason but I have almost tried each and every of your delicacy - but the thing to vouch is for certainly the stuffed Bombay duck. While it is an art to stuff bombil like that, it is even nice the speed at which they do it. The Teesrya, sukka mutton, Sol kadi, their fishes (pompfret , bangda, surmai) although slightly greasy taste yummy. Go for it but please leave your calorie count behind.
The ambience is simple and homely.

Simple yet amazing tasty food!- summary of my visit to this tiny gem hidden in Goregaon East. The place is not that big but it houses one of the best Kombi Wade’s I have ever tasted. The price is also reasonable for the quantity. The taste is very rich and the spices used are also quite taste.
I had order one kombi wade which came with extra curry, chicken masala, 5 big side wade, onion, solkadi and some chutney. Overall the food was very good. The taste of the wade was also very yummy.
The hotel is located right on Aarey Road towards Goregaon East railway station. I found it easy to locate this place. The staff is very humble.
They even accept UPI / Paytm payment options.

Yesterday, due to Ganesh Visarjan..the roads in Mumbai were empty ..empty means no bumper to bumper traffic..hence we made an impromptu plan to drive down to Goregaon..we use to live in this western suburb of Mumbai years ago..this entire western stretch including Versova ,Madh etc are full of tiny Malvan Katta eateries where they serve authentic Malvani food and fresh fish ..One of these is Malvan Katta just at the junction of Goregaon East a few mins drive from Oberoi Mall..use to be our to go place then ..so we brought our son here today for lunch..The food like always simple,fresh and delicious..tiny restaurant but very clean ..and super pocket friendly..a few pics for all of you..We had Surmai fry ,Bombil fry/ Bombay duck ,Bangda fry/ mackerel / prawns fry .the son had chicken masala with vadi and solkadi ..I gulped down a bottle of coke ..

I have a liking for Malwani food due to its unique & peculiar flavours, & especially due to taste of coconut which is generally very prominent in Malwani recipes.
Ordered Mutton Fry & Suko Kolambi from Hotel Malwan Katta. My experience with their food is narrated below :-
- Mutton Fry : Don't get carried away by the name of the dish. The preparation is very different from what it sounds. It was a thick gravy which was oily. Immensely flavourful though. The taste of coconut in the gravy was evident. Mutton was tender, however, the mutton pieces used could have been better. The dish was delicious.
- Suki Kolambi : "Kolambi" means Prawns. This dish too was prepared in a thick gravy. It was spicy & very oily. Prawns used were of small size. Flavour of coconut was indeed evident. The dish was average in taste.
Overall, the food was nice & flavourful. Would love to try it again.

One of the best seafood restaurants in the suburbs of Mumbai, small and compact but big on taste and authenticity. Definitely go here if it's seafood that you're craving and you won't be disappointed, to top it all it is a very inexpensive place too. Two people can easily eat within 1500/- including starters and main course.
You may end up sharing a table as they have limited seating capacity and people always waiting for a table.
