Malvani food is my favourite being an non-veg lover. And being and mumbaikar this is the best restaurant which serves it.This is chicken wade thali,Commonly known as Komdi wade.Simply amazing and yummy.Good service also and Reasonable rates too.
An one stop destination for all kinds of authentic Maharashtrian Cusine. Hotel Satkar is a paradise for Non Veg lovers with menu options ranging from SeaFood to Chicken to Crabs. It's all served hot and spicy just as the non veg dishes have to be. We ordered Anda Currey , Surmai Fry , Biriyani , Pomphret Thali and Mutton Thali for 5 people. The staff is welcoming and generous. We would recommend solkadi after a heavy Malvani meal . Chutney served with Thali takes you back to the coasts of Kokan and definitely makes you realise the flavour of Kokani Food. It's indeed a paradise for seafood lovers .
This place serves the best malvani food out there. Place is quite small so there is always some waiting line. Prawns thali, chicken thali and halwa thali all were tasty. Chicken thali with vades is way better than any other malvani hotels out there. Do visit if you want to try some good seafood thalis.
Rating :
Chicken thali - 4/5
Prawns thali - 4.5/5
Halwa thali - 4/5
One of the very few place you want to go over and over again one of the best vades in town. The mutton thali is awesome. As good as the curry we get in konkan. Fresh fish fried to perfection.
Ambience is good. Very friendly staff. If the owner is around she will surely come and see if the customers are comfortable. All in all superb Food, service and value for money.
Food: 4/5
Ambience : 4/5
Service 5/5
Value for money :5/5
The best place to enjoy tasty Malvani food. Not a big fancy hotel but with best food, would suggest seafood. would had love if the place was little big in size. Staff is also friendly.
Satkar is one place i visit so regularly that i have lost the count. No posh interiors but this is a seafood heaven. The ac section is on the mezanine floor with very less head space. If u are not careful then u can surely be knocked out. If u survive this the food will surely knock u out.
The service is at bolt speed.
We ordered crab curry, prawn curry, wade, chapati ,half rice and solkadi all superlative and foodgasmic.
One place where i can over eat everytime i visit
Great place for nonveg lovers.
Quick service, tasty and proper malvani food.
Seafood is awesome.

Small place in Girgaum which serves amazing non veg food
The ambience is not so appealing but the food served is to die for!
They prepare fish in a typical maharashtrian style gravy and its tastes like heavenđ
Must try is Bombil fry and also surmai!
Thali is perfect for one person!
Yummy malvani style seafood đ, hot vadas, best fish fry here is bombil, mandeli. Spicy chilli chutney given in the thali adds flavor to your food. Chicken lollipop and kaleji are also very tasty here. Gaboli koshimbir is must try.
I visited this place today for lunch. I ordered Surmai Fry, Bombil Fry, Chappati, Sol Kadhi, Rassa.
This is one of the awesome thali i have eaten, the fish is fresh, sol kadhi is great. I am regular visitor of this place. Do try guys
This is heaven for non vegetarians especially seafood lovers.
The pomfret and kingfish are stand out performers. The service is also very fast and the hotel is divided into two halves consisting of AC and one without AC.
Typical Maharashtrian cuisine with the signature solkadi served. Very pocketfriendly. Must visit.
Paplet Thaali Nice(with plain rice, rice is good), Liver Masala nice. Ac on upper floor, 5.5ft height person will face problem while walking but seating arrangement is ok.
Bombil fry nice too.
Good restaurant. Solkadi proper.

A friend's review (invite to meet, really) on Whatsapp - After this review, I am definitely going !
Plumb in the heart of old Mumbai - Girgaum - is the crowded locality of Thakurdwar. 2-3 shops off the busy Thakurdwar signal is the Hotel Satkar. Famous within the local community for its exquisite malvani food, it is the epicure's delight for non-veg thali. Surmai (Kingfish), Rawas (Indian Salmon), Paplet (Pomphret), Bombil (Bombay Duck), Tisrya (shellfish), Mandeli (Anchovy), are mouthwatering fare, besides the more commonplace but equally tasty chicken, mutton, liver, paaya, etc.
The joint is small, with a capacity crowd of 20-30 sweating away while shoving in the spicy yummy stuff. But it has something that is desperately required for the harsh Indian summer - a small little AC alcove-type mezzanine - which is just right for a chota tete-a-tete of batchies meeting after some months/years.
To this non-veg watering hole is also joining a pure and pucca veg - and there is a veg thali for him somewhere in the menu, I am sure, far down in the menu barely making it the the paper edge, hidden like a unwanted mole on the face.
Best to be in place a bit before 1 pm. The local office crowd from banks, etc. close by start trickling in by 1 pm and as I said, its a chota place.
Having lived in Girgaon, never knew about this place. Thanks to my colleague was privileged to eat delicious food.
This place is on the corner of Thakurdwar naka. Not very crowded, fast and efficient service. We ordered prawn curry, halva fry and chapati. Within 10 minutes of ordering, food was served.
Will go back again with my family. See you soon
Chicken gravy is not that tasty but fish thalis are worth trying ! It is a small cozy place in the heart of girgaon easily accessible from charni road station .
Have visited this restaurant a number of times and I must say the quality and consistency of food has always been up to the mark. This small cozy restaurant is located on the bussy street of Thakurdwar and is open all days for lunch and dinner. The interiors are simple yet fresh, the Ac section is not recommended as it is too tiny and uncomfortable.
Coming back to food, have almost tried evening thing here, the fish thali, chicken and mutton thali, sol kadhi, fried Bombay duck etc all prepared fresh and served piping hot. They also do have Chinese food to give some roundness to the menu and surprising the food is better than few of the Chinese restaurants in the adjoining area.special mention regarding the hygiene standards of the restaurant,it's Spick and span, the plates, glasses cutlery every thing looks polished,u can also peep into the kitchen and it's clean as well.
We also experienced great hospitality from their staff who took good care of our kids while we relished some mouth watering food.
Over all a good place serving fresh authentic Malvani food at vfm rates.highly recommended.
Upon craving malvani food, my friend and I visited this place as Zomato recommended it. We found the place relatively easily. The ambience is great for the price point of the food on the menu. We both ordered the chicken vade thali. The food was authentic, delicious, and the portions could satiate any kind of appetite. It was my first visit here, but definitely not the last. Great and super friendly service.
Girgaum is an area which was settled by konkani / malvani people who came to work in the mills of Bombay in the mid 20th century. Simple, fun loving people from the coastal parts of maharashtra who brought along with them their authentic coconut gravy based fish n meat curries, rice bhaakri and sol kadhi, a heady mix of coconut milk and kokum! Satkar is one of those places where u get the taste of this authentic malvani cuisine.
Fish rawa fry, fish curry, shellfish curry (tisrya), chicken rassa with vade (kombdi vade), Prawns rawa fry are the Must haves here, and of course the sol kadhi to aid the digestion. The best part is the rates here are pocket friendly. And the service is excellent!
The space is a bit cramped, but just good enough. Satkar is hence a must visit for a fish loving person. PS : There are many such places in and around Girgaum, parel, lalbaug which started as lunch homes for the mill workers and are now functioning as hotels. Will keep you guys posted. Enjoy!
This review has been long overdue and I am actually sorry that it took me so long to write about my most favourite restaurant in the whole wide world. This is the most underrated and a hidden gem for the best authentic home cooked meal kind of a place! While their non veg food is like no other place be it sea food or their chicken and other non veg items This place serves fantastic veg as well as chinese food. Service staff is fantabulous and they serve the food with lot of love and warmth. The quality of food hasn't changed a bit since my childhood and though it may seem like just another restaurant it is the most cleanest and hygienic restaurant you will visit ! you can even see their kitchen is so spik and span! They do not believe in marketing and that is why it is lesser known than most restaurants who serve food not even half as good as them in similar cuisine but are priced 3x this place. I can take the luxury of saying that this is the best Malvani food restaurant there can ever be in mumbai. I am kind of addicted to this place and thank god it is stone throw away from my home which makes me lucky enough to get their food when I may feel like!! I am so glad they are finally on zomato on my insistence and I hope they will someday get their due they deserve. The best part of this place is they have the same service staff who have been with them since god know last 20 years as I have Seen them since my childhood and I see the same smile same passion as I had seen as a child and that's what makes my every dining experience so wonderful! Thank you guys for serving such pure non adulterated food with so much love and without expecting any returns or fame or coverage on food magazines. This is what food is all about!
Authentic malvani cuisine.awesome taste n value for money food. over a period of time they hv managed to maintain quality very well.
An average ambience place in girgaum near from charni road railway station.
Come here to enjoy chicken suka,kombi vade,fish fry,fish curry,solkadi.
A must visit place for sea food lovers.
Lacks ambience but the food and especially fish is simply amazing. If it was not for the ambience it will get a full 5. Simple and authentic konkani cuisine. Quite economical too.
A regular at this place from childhood . Very simple ambiance but guys have maintain the taste for more than 20-30 years. Â Once Anatashram close down , this is one among few places which provide authentic kokani cuisine in area.
Good vegetarian Indian food.
The thali here is an exciting meal order. The variety of items make you eat so much that you feel extra full.
However it's also that the service is good here. Go. Enjoy.
Food is awesome..tried chicken and mutton Thalis..nice coconut based masala...worth the money..they don't give home delivery, tats sad...but however u can order from this hotel through fasoos
Perfect place for Malvani food lover .Good food at pocket friendly price .Vade were crispy and super tasty ,try it with chicken or surmai .Overall satisfactory experience .
With the prices of seafood soaring in the city, Satkar is one of the places that won't burn a hole in your pocket. Located in Girgaum, this place is quite small but manages to accommodate both  AC and non AC sections. Let's get to the food.
So far, I have tried the chicken thali vade, the fish thali, chicken sukka and shellfish thali. The chicken thali vade consists of a bowl of chicken sukka, a salt-deprived gravy, solkadi and some salad. The chicken sukka makes up for the inadequacies in the thali, and should be ordered separately with your choice of bread.Â
Next, the fish curry. The fish in this particular thali was fried Bangda, and it was sizeable. It was accompanied by Surmai curry, solkadi and salad. This curry would be a recommendation as it provides a great value for money and the taste doesn't disappoint at all.
Lastly, the Shell Fish (Tisrya) Thali. I love shell fish, and I was a bit disappointed with the watery nature of the shell fish curry. It made the entire thali average, and would be nowhere close to a suggestion for fellow foodies.
The service is pretty quick and while the place is a bit cramped up (the AC section), it's a pretty decent restaurant to visit if you are craving for seafood.
Overall, the ratings would be -Â
Food - 6.5/10
Ambience - 4/10
Service - 6/10
Value for money - 8/10
Went here for the first time today the fried bombing surmai and prawns were excellent. The crab masala, mutton sukha and prawn sukha were also good. Definitely worth a visit.
Food - 4 Ambience - 3 Service - 3.5 Value For Money - 700 for 2. If you are craving for Sea-Food and yet you do not wish to spend more, visit this place.
FOOD â Menu mainly consist of Non-Veg Thali varieties. Majority of Ă la carte options are unavailable but still found in the menu. Each day of the week has its own specialty.
MUST HAVE - Clamps (Tisre) Thali, Pomfret Thali.
AMBIANCE - Regular non-ac restaurant which cramps you up for space. Not very well maintained either but it's fame & pricetag does the trick.
SERVICE - Servers can be counted on the finger tips. You need to keep reminding them about your orders specially during peak hours. One aspect which definitely can be improved.
If you are talking about SATKAR, its "THE PLACE" for sea-food fanatics. The fish(Surmai) thali is the catch of the restaurant and the Satkar fish curry is legendary. 4.5/5 is something which entirely goes to food. Though its a small and a cozy restaurant in the lanes of Girgaum, I recommend you to kindly concentrate only on your food.
MUCH MUCH RECOMMENDED.
Great place. I had fish and chicken thali both here. The fish was amazing in Malwani type. Have also tasted the Chinese food, it is also good. Chicken the thali was not as perfect as fish. Fish will always be my recommended dish here. Overall good place!
Visited dis place a fortnight ago . A must visit place if you love malwani food . Fish prawns chicken shells all yummy . I had the prawn thali while my find had the chicken thali plus we had surmai . crazy and filling and totally worth the price .
Authentic malvani fish and mutton and chicken dishes. Very good.. Value for money. I had mutton kheema thali. No parking is the only negative point.
Malvani Food..Ghar ka Khana..Budget mein Perfect
That's best to describe Satkar Hotel,Girgaum..
Vade Plate is crisp & delicious with Chicken Masala or Prawns Masala...
Try the Surmai Fry, Mandeli Fry or Pomfret Fry..
Very fresh Fish always available...
Fish Curry with Rice is dish for the Gods..
All this at reasonable price & excellent homely service.
Must visit for Seafood lovers..
Amazing food. I ordered for a Surmai Thali. The Thali had Surmai curry, surmai fry, and soft chapatis. Lovely taste. Authentic malvani food. A must try for seafood lovers.
This place 1stly is very close to my heart, the warmth this place would offer u food with is something to crave for,if you are looking for some kickaas malvani food, you are just at the right place,it brings its mouth watering malvani spice taste all the way from konkan wth a blend of spicy but tasty food, you should order chicken sukka here or maybe a chicken thali to njoy da@ gravy as well as da dry chicken wth chapati or hot vadas ,veg lovers u might like da taste bcoz of its konkani masala again, sea food umm would rate it 6 on a 10 itss serves u amazing fish curry n fry fish like prompret and Bombay duck(bombi@l) are fried to b crispy and juicy overall I rate dis place as a 7\10,the USB here is if ur away from mom n looking for something homemade den SATKAR(WELCOME) here
Excellent malwani food.....very clean, hygienic and total value for money.Try mutton masala its super spicy .Fried fish is typically what you get in malwan joints.
Taste = 4/5
Ambience = 3/5
Parking = Not available
Specialty = Fish & Mutton dishes.
A very good Budget Restaurant for Fish & Mutton dishes.
Total Value for Money experience.
if one is interested in eating FISH & MUTTON dishes without being interested in the ambience then this is the place to go.
Their Surmai Fry/Mandeli Fry/Bombil/Pomfret are very good.
In Mutton, the mutton chops and sukka mutton dish (dry) is tantalizing.
All my friends prefer to drive down to this place.
Best place in Girgaon to have bonafide malvani food. All masala dishes are made up of coconut roasted with dry khada masala which gives them zesty aroma.
Fry fish Thali is also a good option..well marinated and crisply fried fish, fish curry with tirfal flavour in it and solkadhi..yummm!!!
Place is compact yet clean..Dishes here are slightly overpriced but still real foodies can't resist to visit here again..
Great food... nonveg is awesome!!!!! Speciality is kombadi wade.... wow.. highly recommend.... must try dishes are chicken liver, kheema, kolambi, fish thali!!!!
Had the ceiling of their air conditioned loft been any lower, I would have had to crawl on all fours. And crawl on all fours I would for the lovely sea food they serve! There wasnât an empty seat for lunch on their cramped, functional and yet hygienic ground floor and so I was asked to mount a small staircase to their loft; I managed to grab the last table where the AC vents were positioned to blow right into my nostrils.
All these niggles were forgotten once the food arrived. Opted for the Surmai Thali (with vade instead of chapatis) and a prawns masala. The vade were large and light, the Surmai fry piece was nicely done and crisp, the sol kadi was like a Nadia Comaneci performance - a perfect ten. They have the best sol kadi that money can buy in Mumbai. The prawns masala was lovely with large rupee sized prawns (not the ones youâve gotta look for with an electron microscope in most other fish joints). Itâs a pity I didnât like their fish curry, thatâs because they use âteppalâ (or âtirphalâ/sichuan pepper) to flavour it, there are some who love it and some who donât, lamentably I am amongst those who donât.
The service was earnest and sharpish. Would definitely be back as soon as I can.
Sathkar is little gem located at Thakurdwar Signal and is here since ages. It was shut few years back for renovation but since it has re opened it has never looked back. This place is primarily know for its Maharashtrian cuisine & seafood which is being served here. The place has a AC as well Non Ac section. In the Non AC section the tables are shared on a crowded day (which is always the case here during lunch or dinner). You will have to wait for your turn. But the prompt service in the restaurant always makes your wait shorter. I have tried every possible option on the menu of this restaurant.
My recommendation goes as follows:
1. Any Seafood Thali - Choose the fish you like (For E.g. Pomfret, King Fish, Mackarel, Halwa, Prawns, Baby Shark Fish, Crab, Clams) and you will get the selected fried fish and in curry as well, Served with rice, chapatis or wade whatever you choose, green chutney, sol kadi & other accompaniments. Fish Thali is a must try if you visit this place. My favorite is King Fish, Clams & Crab. Crab is served on selective days and depends on the catch.
2. Chicken / Mutton Thali - The fish in this thali is replaced by chicken or mutton. But the portion of chicken or mutton is comparatively less than what is served in a fish thali. You can always take a fried fish on ala carte basis as an add on with this thali.
3. On Ala-carte basis you can definitely try Fish Or Gaboli Koshambir (Kind of a Fish or Caviar Raita), Chicken or Mutton Sukha.
Its a ideal place for seafood lovers who prefers the non greasy home made style of food. A must visit for all Non Vegetarians. They do serve some home cooked style vegetarian food as well.
Food - 3.5
Service - 3.5
Ambiance - 3
Price - Reasonable
This place is the best in girgaon, we came here from childhood, my father visited this restaurant in his early dayz, best maharastrian cuisines, i love to eat crab, chicken, surmai fry and all fish fries over here their chapatis are very soft and nice, i tried chinese food also and it was best, Many Marathi actors come here to eat, actors from sahitya sangh also eat here after they finish their play, i will never forget this place
I'm surprised that this place only has a couple of namesake reviews, considering the fact that it's been around for decades. My father says he's been visiting it irregularly for more than 3 decades!
It's not a huge place but a lot of people do queue by the lunch-time at about 1 PM & they serve pretty decent Maharashtrian food. My favorite is Dry Prawns, which has prawns with a thick gravy; I'm usually not a gravy-fan but this is one gravy that I really like, & the only issue I have with it is the amount of oil in it! Bombil & other fish-fry dishes are decent too.
They also have a Chinese menu (when their Chinese chefs are present) but I haven't tried much of it apart from Chicken/Prawn Fried Rice as I'm not much of a Chinese-food fan myself.
Recently, they renovated the place & also have a parcel-counter now, so if one isn't able to get a table there then one can at least take away a parcel & enjoy a delicious meal at home!
Nice place for quick sea food meal. just renovated.
Tisrya suke was very tasty. Flavourful, mouth watering green masala and medium spicy. Surmai curry was also tasty
Famous for sea food, food quality is good and fresh. We ordered Veg Thali, Mutton thali and Pompret thali. Mutton was good, pompret was fresh. Solkadi was refreshing hence ordered more. Approach road is congested and parking will be a difficulty.
I had mutton masala with vade . It was very authentic Konkani food . I was bit not happy with portion size of mutton masala but rest all was great .
Satkar Hotel is a well-known hotel in Girgaon, Mumbai, India. It is located at Charni Road station near Thakurdwar and is known for its excellent hospitality and delicious food. The hotel offers a variety of maharashtrian cuisines, including non vegetarian dishes. Satkar Hotel is a popular choice for both locals and tourists, and it is known for its friendly staff. If you are looking for a restaurant to enjoy a meal, Satkar Hotel is a great option.
Try fish dishes here which are very good. I tried a pomfret fry, a bangda fry, surmai and some other fish. Preparations of all dishes were excellent. The gravy was thick and authentic konkani. See if you can order only fish and not thali so that you can savor the taste. Thali becomes too much from a quantity point of view.
One of the best Malvani thalis available. The service is fast and quick, tables are clean and the food is tasty. This one checks all the boxes.
If you want to have simple home made nonveg food.. Then this is the place. Verity & qty is slightly less compared to the price, but overall good experience
Authentic Malvani Food, one of the best Malvani Food Must try đ good for veg and Non veg.
Best hotel for malvani style fish food at affordable price.
The sea food is very good. Best place for thali.
This is a great seafood place. They serve excellent Malvani cuisine at fair prices.
If you are a sea food lover than you can get your food here.. good taste malvani style food. Walkable distance from charni road station.
