Pleasently surprised by good quality of South Indian fare at Mukta's kitchen in Deonar ( not Matunga!). Also very friendly owners.
This simple but cute little restaurant is under rated to say the least. Not only is their food amazing, but it's really affordable. The staff is super adorable. They really take a genuine effort to provide you with a good service. I honestly like this place better than Sadguru and a few other restaurants around Chembur area. This has become my go to place. If at all we feel bored to cook at home, we just drop by here. Another good (or probably bad) thing about this place is, it's never really too crowded, making your meal reasonably peaceful. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat.

Hello everyone!
We really didn't get why this place has such low ratings, infact all the dishes we tried were actually pretty good.
Totally worth the money, it's cheap and it was good enough.
One of the best vegetarian places which serves authentic Mangalorean cuisine. Yes you heard me right Mangalorean Vegetarian. That’s not an oxymoron but a reality only in Mukta’s kitchen. My personal favourite is the mini idli and I quite like the Mangalorean buns which I find an absolute delight to indulge in during any hour of the day or night. Lovely restaurant with a brilliant menu. Kaustubh Joshi (Author Bombay Unmapped)
Visited this place with 2 of my friends. While I had a thali, others ordered from the a-la-carte menu. First, the GSB thali is a unique feature of this restaurant, bringing in the aromas of the community from which the owners hail. Ingredients like coconut, coconut oil, tamarind and curry leaves create a heady mixture of spice and taste. Of particular mention would be the Song, a spicy and tangy potato preparation.
To wash it down, I had the Kokum soda, a refreshing sherbet with a zing.
As for my friends, the Rava adai proved too good, crisp from the outside with a soft and tasty inside.
The authentic sambar and chutney provided great accompaniment.
Another rarely found offering we had was the biscuit roti. Looking like a Kachori, but with a flavourful inside, this is an excellent accompaniment to tea, or Mukta's superlative filter coffee.
On the whole, a singularly toothsome experience that will leave you wanting for more.
I absolutely love this little joint, tucked away in Deonar; making this a real hidden gem.
Although the restaurant offers a plethora of dishes to choose from, it is an authentic GSB restaurant.
They dish out regular favourites like Idli, dosas and wada making it great for a quick breakfast fix.
On occasion, I have tried their Thali which was super delicious and extremely filling, with big portion sizes to keep you satiated.
Something worth mentioning is their coconut chutney which tastes super fresh. I have always been a 'sambar person' but they really converted me.
Having said that, I really like their sambar too - it's not sweet like some of the others I have tried.
Must try: Mangalore Buns, Kela Bhajia, GSB Thali, Filter Coffee (they also offer an option with jaggery which tastes delicious too!).
Must try GSB special buns!! The food is finger licking tasty and sambar is amazing. Also try rava masala dosa in ghee. Great food for people who like spicy food.
Marvellous & delicious sambhar, typical South Indian sambhar! Must try South Indian & spicy North Indian! Finally some place to relish good south Indian and North Indian food in Mumbai!
The biryani is delicious and mouth watering. The paneer makhani just melts in the mouth. An amazing and affordable place. Loved the food alot!
I loved the food and the idlis were delicious and I loved service was excellent and aroma was good and the ambience was good and simple and good place to eat
The place was best. Taste was awsome quantity was ok! But price n taste is great !! Go for it. Given 4 stars bcuz of quantity for me it was not up to the mark !!
All my TISS friends swear by this place! It's a small restaurant on the way to the Govandi station. The ambience is decent, giving a family vibe, but can be a bit more well maintained. The service is quick. I started with Misal Pav, which actually tasted wonderful given my bad experiences with it earlier! I loved it. Then I had Mangalore buns which were sheer bliss. The Mysore Masala Dosa was one of the best Dosas I've had with the Chutney being the USP! And the Veg Hakka Noodles tasted good as well. Having visited numerous times, I can also vouch for the Idli Chaat, Mangalore Buns and the Bhajjis. And that lovely filter coffee. Didn't love the Neer Dosa though. Overall it's an amazing place offering great food at reasonable price, which is the need of the hour for students like me!😊
.
Edit: I also tried their specialities recently. The Bangalore Ghee Roast Dosa is heavenly. The Mom's Dosa is one of the best things I've ever had. People who have a sweet tooth will love Rawa Adai and people who love spiciness will fawn over the Ulundu. This place has managed to maintain a nice consistency for a long time.
This is that nice and small cozy place which is best visited for some breakfast for which they serve some yummilicious ♥️ south Indian hot idili and Vadas not to forget dosas too!! Highly recommend when you are around Govandi, Deonar or Chembur
We have always been here for breakfast and they have amazing south indian breakfast dishes. Upma is our favourite along with coffee. Mysore and rava dosa also taste great! Also liked their medu wada and sambhar. Very much tasty!
Absolute value for money! Even though my staple at this place is cheese sada dosa (which is overloaded with cheese on the outside as well as inside), the North Indian section is equally delicious; especially the paneer items, and their lassi, which is wonderfully thick and creamy.
Food is good here.... u can get varieties of dosa and all... actually I always go here to have Dosa...
Price here is ok.... you can also have full meals up here in moderate amount.
I am a very regular visitor here for lunch. This place has good food and is also consistent with taste. With price we pay - truly value for money. Recommended dishes: Daal Khichadi, Dum Aloo Punjabi, Masala Dosa and Tea is very good
It’s a great place if you are craving some awesome rawa dosa or Pav bhaji! I’ve had both and after being disappointed a lot of times at other places, I was really happy to have found it.
I visited this place , simple neat. No flashy interiors
Had Rava Adat and Daal wada.
I would say no restaurant in chembur is serving sambhar they way MK serves , very tasty.
Daal wada: Had amazing flavor of ginger nicely binded with flour
Suggestion: staff denied sambhar with wada, so had to order extra:)
When opted for Card payment machine was not working
Request mgmt to fix same. Rest place is really good for Quality
This Restaurant is a Must visit..
For its simple yet tasty cuisine..
Have dined here multiple times and have always been happy about it..
The weekly specials r a Must try..
The Pineapple Sheea cannot be missed(it beats Ramashaya's Famous sheera)..
The Bisibele Bhaat too is yummy..
Worth a try every week , every day..
The food at Mukta's kitchen is very tasty and everything served is hot and freshly cooked. They have a lot of variety on their menu. My personal favourite will be the Pav Bhaji and the Paneer Lasuni Gravy with a hot butter naan!
They have a very friendly staff and also is the perfect choice for all the GSB food lovers.
Mukta's is my go to place for affordable, hygienic, fresh and delicious food ! Ulundu Dosa, GSB Puri Thali, Medu Vada, Palak Khichdi and Idli Fry are my favourites.
Mukta's Kitchen is a place we have been frequenting for some time now. Although our first experience a few years back wasn't that great, recently the food, ambience and service have seen a remarkable improvement.
You'll find good Maharashtrian, South Indian, Chinese, Punjabi food and Thalis apart from other kinds of regular snacks like bhajjis, pav bhaji etc at a really decent price. Kela Bhajji, Pav Bhaji, Dosas and Thalis are a few things I've tried and would definitely recommend. You could also try the Mangalore Buns with Tea.
The nearby office goers are mostly seen having their breakfast, lunch dinner over here. Service is very prompt. Just wish if they could start accepting cards and other wallet options for payment.
Great food and great service ... Aloo Paratha sabse best hai ..
Please try it ... especially all the tissians... guys it's a good place and very near to college to hang out
Went here for breakfast, place was empty so easy to get table. We had Iddli and ask for fresh juice of pomegranate which is not available with them.
Iddli was good in taste but the sambher is too less in it.
Rest all great!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers!!!!!!!!
The restaurant along with the food has a very homely feeling. This South Indian joint has a very authentic taste in their dishes. The butter idli and sambar wada is to die for. They won my heart with their simplicity and quick service. It’s definitely has become my Saturday morning breakfast place.
This south indian place is exceptional! Loved the butter idli and sada dosa. The Thali is to die for. Go visit asap. Also the owners sit at mukta’s i think which makes all the difference.
Absolutely loved the food and quick service here! A nice clean cute place to go to with your family for a good south indian meal! Definitely recommend the masala dosa served hot with a cup of filter coffee here. You'll walk away happy and full.
Had Punjabi Thali which was good. Pulao could be improved. Waiters are prompt in service. Located near IIPS and thus convenient for students.
Mukta’s Kitchen is one of the most authentic restaurants in Chembur that serves authentic Indian delectable. The menu leaves you spoilt for choice with a wide variety of North Indian dishes like Dal Makhni, Paneer Tikka to South Indian cuisine spongy Idlis, Neer Dosa Rasam Vada and some yummy Chinese.
like Paneer Chilli and Noodles.
Another speciality of Mukta’s Kitchen is that it’s serves the traditional Gaud Saraswath Brahmin -GSB cuisine which is very rarely found in any restaurant. They serves some of the most signature dishes like Mangalore Buns, Moong Dosa, Kela Bhajia, Biscuit Roti, Rava Adhai etc. The food is so tasty yet healthy and you can stop yourself from trying more than a dish.
I personally enjoyed the GSB style vegetarian Thali the most. This scrumptious Thali offered a lot of variety right from appetisers to main course, dessert and it ended with a cup of Filter Coffee. Its a complete value for money.
The restaurant is run by a humble woman, Shobha Pai who definitely knows her food well ensures that all foodies are well fed and tempted to schedule their next visit soon!
Due to the excellent hospitality and food the place is mostly packed.
Hence, be little patient until you get your seat and enjoy your meal!
You'll be absolutely spoilt for choice here! From fluffy idlis to paper-thin dosas, there's something for every vegetarian! Mukta's Kitchen pays special attention to hygiene and food preparation. The dishes are healthy, tasty and affordable. I love the easily accessible location and a special note to gratitude to Mrs. Shobha Pai, the affable manager!
Mukta's kitchen gives you a homely feel to the ambiance and feel. The food is extremely delicious. It's a very simple menu but excellent quality. The management and people are extremely humble and courteous . Especially the main restaurant owner Mrs. Shobha Pai! I would recommend this place for everyone who wants to eat simple, homely and quality food!

Delicious food! The thaalis come with great variety and quantity as well.
The lassi is not to be missed!
Overall good value for money as well.
Punjabi thali is costly... ......But taste is very good......... Staff is nice........ Good and clean space.......... There is a space for parking too........
A good escape from the hostel and canteen food.
This place offers food at a reasonble price and the best part being the cleanliness and the hygiene they have maintained. The price of all the items are inclusive of the tax so happy paying what the print rate is and no further addons. Coming to the food, we ordered a butter tomato onion uttapam and masala dosa both served with coconut chutney and sambar.
The dosa was very fine and crisp although i found the filling a little less. Uttapam was soft and very delicious. Also a special mention for the chutney served which was very different from the regular chutney and had a little taste of mint.
A must visit place indeed.
Muktas Kitchen might be a small place but it serves very tasty and simple food. Their dosas are very nicely made especially their Neer Dosa. I have come here multiple times and tried their Sheera, Puri Bhaji, Vadas. Filter Coffee is good as well. Also, the restaurant is always spick and span. Must visit if you want to have a quick meal in Chembur.

One of those old pattern themeless restaurant serving one of the finest food
As it is said do not judge a book by its cover
This place is much recommended ..located near the sion trombay highway near deonar where there are less than a few restaurant options serving reasonable and tasty food
One of the few recommendations-
Misal pav, batata vada , pav bhaji, spring roll, dal khichdi ,their south indian udipi menu specifically neer dosa, mysore masala
They serve their very authentic south indian gsb thali and curd rice
Will suggest if you try their kokam sarbat and kokam soda(highly recommended)
For those residing in the nearby areas, Mukta's Kitchen is a popular spot for South Indian cuisine. Some might find it little overpriced but the quality of food and hygiene standrads of this place are worth the money.
Udupi. Spartan, spic and span, with a special care for quality. You get it all here.
I'm a regular in the neighborhood, so I end up here for the fabulous filter coffee served in the traditional steel tumbler. I had 2-3 of their uttappams and a few dosas as well. They have 30+ varieties of dosa and a score or so of uttappams. You will need to make visits regularly to try all!
The owners and staff are quite friendly. Service is quite on point.
Would definitely recommend it.
My take -
VFM - 5/5
Service - 4.5
Food - 4/5
Ambience - 3/5
Oh and Veggies, rejoice. It's fully veg with Jain options to boot.

Visited this place recently seeking pure vegetarian food.
They have a simple menu that has it all, one thing or the other for everybody's choice. The menu is quite generic.
My friends preferred the South Indian here, whereas I preferred the Punjabi menu. Though I’m not a fan of Punjabi dishes, this restaurant cooked it the way I like it. I liked all the dishes we ordered in terms of taste.
Quantity is appropriate, service is quite good too. However, the cashier was rude and grumpy for no reason.
To sum up:
Food: 5/5
Service: 3/5
Ambience: 4/5
Nice, inexpensive place for vegetarian food. They have a large variety of items on their menu. The dosas are especially good and come in great many options. Recommended highly if you are looking for a nice meal without burning a hole in your pocket.
Value for money, good taste and sufficient quantity, ... clean and hygiene ... ....................................................................................................................................
Food quality is good. I had food in out side sitting area. Overall good but necessary to have someone from Mukta's who can take care of people sitting in outside area. Food quality was very good.
Good gsb food, I also love their punjabi thali. Great place for evening snacks. Love their filter coffee. Neat and clean place with co-operative staff
The food is excellent and the prices are not high. Good service. Their snack items are good. Best place for everyday meals if you are an office-goer.
Great food, excellent service and a great place for affordable dining. Even though the place is crowded during lunch hours, the staff manages the place well and ensures that every customer gets a place to sit. Must visit, especially if you love South Indian delicacies.
Great place for south indian food. Idlis are soft and with a lovely texture, not lumpy like in many udupi places. There are a few specialities, which one may not find in a regular udupi such as bisi bele bath, vangi bath, rava adai, magalore buns etc. Also their dal khichdi, kadhi khichadi, rasam rice is quite nice. Filter coffee is excellent!
Good and quick service. Lunch hours tend to be crowded.
It is a decent place for budget food. South Indian food here is pretty good and North Indian is okayish. But please don't ever try eating their malai kofta...it is a disaster.
Omg. Foodgasm for people who love south indian and indian food. They have special GSB thali which is a must try. Staff can be rude somtimes and service is also can be not satisfactory but amazing food will make you stay there.
Food was really awesome. Try Mukta's veg Thali-" A perfect appetite killer"..🍴 Masala rice 🍚 and Pineapple shira were yummmm...😋
Must try ..😊
its a good and decent outlet for veg food.I went there for dosa and filter coffee, it was good.the place is nice and clean.food was good
This restaurant provides the much-needed option of good south Indian food in the vicinity. Their Idli with Sambhar is to die for. Dishes like Butter dosa provide a relief to taste buds. You need to understand, you are in a south Indian restaurant, so ordering another cuisine will be risk for taste buds
This one is bang opposite my college campus. And I guess is a place for regular lunch/dinner for the college and working people nearby.
Went in for a quick dosa, dahi bada bite and washed it down with chaas.
Very simple home cooking. Something like mummy trying to be chef-like.
Cute feeling when you eat the food. It is gone wrong here and there ( moong dal dosa.. Tasted like the normal rice dosa. No ginger. Moongdaal. No onion) But you enjoy it for its simplicity. close to a VFM but not a paisa basil.. Dosa for 65, vada for 50.
If you are able to share a talk with the South Indian cook in there. Happy person welcome to share what he is going to cool for you. :)

Decent food served with a lot of warmth! I am a regular here and once I was sitting alone having my dinner when the owner gave me a bowl of kheer asking me to try it as it was his personal recipe.... brought a smile to my face! :)
One regular place we always visit for a quick meal.Good food, fast service, clean and tidy. Their South Indian items are fantastic. They offer awesome varieties od dosas.
Good food. Less oily. I eat regularly.i found mukta kitchen clear and quality food.
I feel if you ppl looking for healthy food then try it.
The only place in deonar where you get food having different taste. Here I am talking about Panjabi food. They use different gravy for different food which is best part I believe. Good quality and friendly staff is plus point. Much better that the overpriced Sadguru Resto..
This place serves proper GSB food, which won't please everyone's tastebuds. However, it did work for me. Out of it's pure veg and elaborate south indian menu, neer dosa with chana masala are my fav. The waiters and manager are friendly and make sure that we are happy and satisfied with their service. Less crowded and anytime better than Subhalakshmi! :)
This place was a surprise discovery. I am amazed that it's not known and not overflowing with people. They make unsweetened Sambhar. With generous amount of dal. For that alone it is worth the rating I gave. Dosas are crisp and tasty. Chutney also fresh and finger licking good. avoid the Punjabi and stick to the south Indian items at this GSB joint. The lemon rice is perfectly seasoned and has just the right amount of lemon. The curd is khatta just as south Indians like it. Sugar is rightly reserved for the desserts. This is the closest to matunga in chembur. Tip : Sambhar is made fresh early morning and again at 6 pm. Go at these times to taste it at its best.
Great food. Great for the pocket. Very clean n healthy. I would recommend this place to everyone who would like to have some awesome South Indian cuisine. They have North Indian food as well which equally good.
Menu: Good... South Indian and veg Indian Chinese stuff
Food: Good .... the place is clean and they promise to cook food in refined oil (well I didn't check that but I guess you can trust them on that)
Service: Quick and good.... some smiles
Ambience: Homely (the British way)
What I didnt Like: good healthy food! I'm giving a 'Good' rating for your butt cheeks and you wallet can afford to eat here as often as you want!
South Indian food is awesome. Clean, tidy with excellent cross ventilation. Service decent. GSB thali is worth every penny u pay. Interesting fact: all food items are prepared in REFINED SUNFLOWER OIL. You cannot afford to miss !!!
Food is amazing .... very clean....do try malgapude chutney its amazingly tasty....from the outside the restaurant doesn't look much appealing but the food and the cleanliness is amazing. Sheera is very tasty....
GSB food, very homely! All things south Indian and great variety at that.
This is my favourite one. It is not a big restaurant but has a good food. Ulundu dosa is my favourite one. South Indian dishes are must try. Not a crowdy place. You can sit comfortably and have your food. Though this is a road touch restaurant you are not disturbed with outside noise.
A place you can have a quick food.
Very good authentic GSB style food preparation if you in search of homely and vegetarian simple food it's a must visit.
A must visit place in this area where good food is hard to find. Excellent dosas, non sweetened sambar, chutney cud be better, nice coffee with jaggery. Nice owners.
Amazing South Indian food. Specially GSB Mangalore food. Buns, coffee, dosaa. Ulundu, sett, masala. Podi idlis. And all sorts of food. Best way to give mangalorean food to friends.
Clean and simple place.
Food is tasty.
We ate Meduwada, mysore masala dosa, rasam, filter coffee, puri bhaji, Mangalore bun, etc.
Very nice and affordable.
Muktas is a good place to have South Indian food especially the Karnataka ones. They don't use food colour or ajinomoto and have an all vegetarian Menu. The ambience and seating is Spartan, but then the filter coffee is too good to make up for. They have a thali and other North Indian menu too. Usually remains closed on Sundays.
Awesome GSB cuisine. Clean, hygienic ambience. One can taste some special dishes like Paan poli, Tuppa dosa on specific days. Located on Govandi station road. Roadside parking. Thali is good option for lunch time visitors.
This is a simple place with amazing quality, highly underated, had Bangalore ghee roast dosa and moms dosa ,was out the world, been there several times & always came out fully contended.
A very good budget vegetarian restaurant in the locality. The option for vegetarian is good. The restaurant may turn out to be slightly noisy. But should not mind for the price we pay. Overall a good anything you can eat budget restaurant.
Great Mangalorean and Goan vegetarian food. In April the amras Puri was super. Anyone from Goa/ Mangalore who wants takachi kadi should visit in Mumbai
Good place for budget friendly lunch
Nice clean hygienic and fiting in budget
You can enjoy GEN manglorian disesh especially their thali,Neer dosa, buns, banana pakoda which I tasted was awesome
Must try Kela bhajiye... Other food items are ok
Five stars for the delicious filter coffee and South Indian snacks.
Fresh, hot, crispy and home made taste of kantha bhaji & kela bhaji stood out.
It is a nice place to have a lunch with friends and family. The quality of food is good for which you need to wait for quite sometime during rush hours. You need to have patience to get your order. Only cash payment is accepted as there is no card and online payment in place yet. But overall it is a very good place.
