I'm honestly quite surprised to discover that this restaurant doesn't have a higher rating. I'd stayed at the Leela in December of last year, and my fiance and I had a memorable experience at both restaurants .Our table here overlooked a waterfall, and it's almost like the restaurant is nestled in a Chinese fable of some sort. Despite the pleasant ambience, I hadn't expected anything to write home about, as most Asian restaurants in Mumbai (or in India, for that matter) will assuage the Indian palate in some way, compromising on the cuisine's authenticity. Not that I've ever been to China or anything, but everything we ordered off the menu was excellent. Particularly memorable was the sweet and sour pork (delicious!). I've been a vegetarian for a number of years now, but this was one item that I could not resist after sampling it. While we were ordering items on the main course, the server was even sweet enough to advise us that we might be ordering too much for a table of two. All in all, this is the kind of experience that one would want to have at a five star restaurant.

Amazing food!

I went to The Great Wall on a weekend with my husband and had a really nice time. The ambience is good, very quiet and peaceful. We felt that the service could have been a bit better. Overall a good experience 👌

We had ordered spring rolls and assorted dimsums - perfect taste and sauces :)

For the mains, we had ordered garlic fried rice and braised potato in spicy garlic sauce.

I have only two words for this place ‘GEM’ and ‘EXCEPTIONAL’. The food at Great Wall is something to be tried not written about ....it’s truly superb. Ambience soothing understated luxury....Service a benchmark in their own right. The staff made my quiet New Years dinner with my family a truly memorable experience while they weren’t with theirs. I truly thank all the staff for taking such great care of us and the chefs for tantalising our taste buds.

Had an official dinner , for a Delhiwala the food was pleasantly not CHINJABI, the Peaking Duck Roast is only second to Hyatt China White, good pricing, great service , amazing poultry and fish. For me the Duck made my day, there are very few people who do it well and this is one of them. Only if they could skin it live and rolled it up in front , would have loved to have some extra veggies under the crepes.

The Great Wall is a fine dining restaurant located inside The Leela , Mumbai near the international airport . I visited this restaurant for lunch last month . They were having the China XO pop up event . This review is based on the experience I had at this restaurant .

Ambience : 4/5 - The Leela has hands down one of the most beautiful interiors of any hotel in the city . The Great Wall is located in the basement of this hotel . The seating was nice and comfortable . There is a glass window on one side with greenery outside which feels nice .

Service : 5/5 - Service was great when I visited . The servers and managers did their job well . I have no complaints regarding service .

Food : 4/5 - I was specially here because I wanted to try the China XO pop up event so I ordered their special menu for the occasion . The dimsums were very nice . The baked chicken puff was the best . For the main course I was served Fish in XO sauce and duck fried rice . The fish tasted very nice and the sauce was amazing . The duck fried rice was wonderful and had a unique taste to it . For dessert I was served honey noodles and ice cream . If I have one thing to critique I was disappointed with the quantity of food . I think a menu designed for one person should be fullfilling and this was not . I think the managers and chef should note this while designing the menu .

Overall I had a very pleasant meal at The Great Wall and will surely visit again .

Fork licking good combined with amazing hospitality makes a compelling reason for one to go and have lunch at man-made natural beauty site right in the middle of the city! Dumplings - both crystal and shitake musrooms, sweet corn soup are amazing items. I would rate their soups and starters above their main course (which is also very good). Mango dessert, one could do away with, aint something out of the world..!!

We went in for the set menu, which included a choice of soup starters main course and deserts.
Was it good....Yes Sir; I mean the soup was tasty and spicy, the chili oils were the bomb...choked twice on it.
The noodle portion were great, I had my noodles with crispy fired lamb and it was absolutely delightful. The desert too was amazing.
In all, a delightful experience, my only regret was asking for bottled water instead of tap water. It’s one of the most expensive bottled water I’ve ever paid for, a mistake I will never repeat again

This one was the Chinese place at leela. The entrance and the decor was amazing, full points for that. Specially the waterfall visible from inside the restraunt was good. Now coming to the food.

Soup: They got the wrong soup initially and then changed it. It was quote sour for my taste.

Dumplings: prawn dumpling was amazing, though they could increase the quantity

Main course: The main course was crispy lamb and chicken Manchurian. The crispy lamb was quite tasty and nicely made.

The orders were talking a lot of time though the staff kept on apologising for that.

Have been hearing lots about this place ... so my first thoughts:

1. Service: Super, Attentive and Caring
2. Place: Seems old, at least the carpeting. Table setup is good.

Now the Food - we ordered a few things and mixed thoughts

Chicken and Prawn Dumplings: Good.
- the accompaniments , Nice

Great Wall Soup: Super

Chicken Kung Pao - Ok. Found it on the sweeter side, the missed the "slight" crunchiness in the meat.

Ma Po Tofu with Chicken - Yummy Yummy.

This one scores very high on ambience. Gone are the cacophony of loud crowds. Instead get transformed into a out of city leisurely dining with a small waterfall outside the restaurant to just laze it for once. Service is very good, they do take care you enjoy your time there. Their signature hot and sour chicken soup is quite close to authentic Chinese and very good though it could cut a bit of oil. The mushroom in the soup reminded of my time in China. We had chicken and shrimp momos, some hakka noodles, chicken fried rice, chicken in black beans sauce and a crispy lamb which were very good but wouldn't yet place in excellent category. I don't quite remember the dessert, some mango stuff and rightfully so. Overall value for money and a very good experience . I would certainly recommend. Plus if you just go around the property, you can spend some time with Parakeets, quite in a rainbow of colors

First , The Leela is beautiful. It's a 5star restaurant and expect great food but with equally great price.
The Great Wall is a Chinese restaurant at The Leela, Chakala.

The service was top notch. You feel like a James Bond with waiters and stewards following u to keep u happy.

The food was good...but quatity needs to improve.
The roasted Duck was crispy and tasty. The sauce it was served with was delicious.
The Chinese fried rice with Machurian curry was delicious and appetizing. The aroma was heavenly.
The quatity was less though.

The food heavenly , the bill heavenly too😁

We celebrated 3 birthdays at a restaurant inside The Leela's. If you want to get your hands on some authentic Chinese food "The Great Wall", is a best choice. We ordered a platter of dimsums which were just so delectable and juicy. I personally loved the prawns dimsums which were soft from outside but crisp and juicy from inside. The swiss chocolate cake at this restaurant is a must try.
Overall the experience was just perfect.

I associate The Leela properties and their respective restaurants with grandeur and a very magnificent experience. I had the same feeling when I stayed at The Leela in Goa a few years ago. And also when I dined at Jamavar, at The Leela Mumbai. The Great Wall is honestly no different. The interiors are spacious – sometimes even the best of the restaurants have really tight seating, or the tables are too close to one another. But here, the seating is very carefully arranged in a way that even if the restaurant was full, you could still be enjoying a rather private meal. And if you are lucky, then you may just find a table by the window and that can make for a beautiful view, while you enjoy some good Chinese food.

Leela hotels ambience is very beautiful
The Great Wall in Leela is an excellent choice for Chinese
We had taken set menu for lunch
Cost was around 1000+ taxes
In set menu they have three variety of soups
We ordered manchow soup which was not available in the menu but they still served us
Soup was excellent with right quantity
Preparation quite good with good presentation
For starters there are five varieties u can choose one dimsum
Dimsums were prepared with precision loved the filling and very thin outer cover steamed to perfection
1 main course has to be ordered with option of rice or noodles
1 gravy option
Noodles were very yummy while rice were okay
2 options for deserts wherein again u can choose only one
Both the deserts were good
Loved their strawberry ice cream
Service was good
Ambience and decor extraordinary
Full value for money
Just wished they have more variety
Include one non alcoholic drink with this menu

Great Wall the Chinese restaurant at The Leela, Mumbai is one of the pioneers of the cuisine in the city, the Hunan and Sichuan cuisines being their core. What drew me to the restaurant after long was their new menu coupled with the four-course set lunch priced at attractive Rs 1010 per person on through the week.

My table overlooking the green landscape replete with a waterfall set the vibrancy to the afternoon despite the 90’s décor. The set lunch comprised soup, starter, mains and a dessert; it had the basics but plausible options like the classic turnip cakes, crystal dumplings, and the Great wall special hot and sour soup. I also looked beyond it for the new menu items like the asparagus cheung fans and the main dish, chestnut, sugar snap peas, tofu, shitake and white fungus in a light citrusy sauce with Japanese inspirations, both exquisite. The mapo tofu for mains was classic and did me in. The cream of mango with sago pearls was refreshing with the acidity and the new dessert Gula Melaka of Sino-Malay origin, a combination of sago, coconut milk and Palm jaggery was silken albeit heavy.

Great Wall impressed with the food like always and their set menu we thought is a steal especially for those who look forward to see what Chinese food with quality ingredients taste like

What to write about this legendary place. One of the first places to start authentic Chinese food in mumbai. I remember I had just married and come to Bombay and having a meal at The Great Wall was like saving 2 months salary and was a status symbol. Used to love going here.
And then so many options opens up and suddenly leela from Juhu became too far a place. Sad!!
Had dinner here yest night with some friends. Most outstanding food. No wonder it's maintained its top position for decades now. Excellent service of course. Simple rustic decor. By the time we reached for dinner from the room, it had almost closed and they were waiting only for us.

Mixed Dumplings- most amazing prawns, chicken n veg dumplings. Thin skinned and perfectly minced and marinated meat inside.

Steamed fish in Sauce- was perfectly grilled and the sauce was wonderful, subtle flavours of garlic n chilli. Loved it

Crab rice- outstanding. Gem of a dish. Loads of crabmeat in nicely flavoured moist rice. Just loved it. Winner all the way!!

My point- The Great Wall is an example of how the quality and taste needs to be maintained. There is no fun in opening 10 branches and going down on the prime component of the food industry... Taste!!

Have been a regular here for years, but i feel the quality of food has deteriorated over a period time.my favs here are sesame honey glazed chicken for starters, kung pao chicken with cashewnuts and dried chilly ,pan fried chicken blackbean sauce and fried rice with star anise, garlic and onions.the food is decent.you pay here more for the serenity in the ambience than the food, something that you expect and experience in a chinese fine dining restaurant that too over the years has become quite noisy.overall ,an ok alternative ..a restaurant that has started losing its charm.

The Great Wall is by far the best authentic Chinese restaurant I've been to!
Location wise this place is well located just adjacent to the airport road metro station, though almost no one coming coming here travels by metro :P Pretty easily accessible by road too. Not too much traffic in its vicinity.
The ambience, without a doubt is fabulous.
To match it, is the taste of the food. Spot on flavours with the perfect balance of spice. We had-
1. Vegetable crystal dim sum - Tasty, well cooked. Perfect, delicate, transparent coating. Little less on quantity. Only 4 pieces. 4/5
2. Spicy Sichuan vegetable dumpling - Good but not great. Taste was not that appealing. 3.5/5
3. The Great Wall Sichuan hot and sour soup with shredded chicken - Good. Something different from the regular chinese soups we have, but again for those who prefer to go for their favourite j stead of trying new things, shouldn't go for this one. 3.5/5
4. Vegetable manchow soup - The classic chinese soup. Lived up to its fame :P perfect in all terms. Loved it 5/5
5. Fresh garden greens in hot garlic sauce - Beautiful sauce to accompany the rice. Filled with flavour. Very tasty 5/5
6. Fukien fried rice with vegetables - Different from usual, but not extra ordinary. 4/5
7. Vegetable Fried rice - very good. 4.5/5
8. Chilled cream of mango with sahi pearl - 2.5/5. Not good at all. Not a fine dining desert which was our expectation but it turned out to be quite ordinary.

Soups: 'The great wall sichuan hot and sour soup- chicken' and 'Veg manchow soup'. Both were good. First soup was a bit hot for my palate but still tasty.
Dimsums- Prawns spring roll: crispy and light; Veg crystal: a bit bland; Veg sichuan spicy: recommended.
Main course:
Roast peking duck with duck sauce: Loved it (not recommended for indian palate).
Fresh vegetables with hot garlic sauce: average.
Veg fukien rice: good
Veg fried rice: good
Dessert:
Chilled cream of mango with sago pearl: Did not like it. Was neither sweet nor sour.

The only reason I've been coming here as far as I can remember as a child with my folks and now I'm married and come here with my husband after wrapping up with the hustle life of the city and love getting frisked away into this peaceful ambience provided by the Leela's here at the Great Wall! This is a typically old school oriental joint simply lit in the evenings, the menu is precise and they definitely know what they're serving you. For the people calling their food bland it's funny cos how our Indian tastebuds have to indianise every cuisine to their liking so if you're one of them then this isn't the place you should visit. The service over the years has been impeccable and my favourite mains will always be accompanied with the classic fried rice, so simple so homely and so authentic, almost difficult to find these days. You'd have to scout the Chinese joints that have been established in the 80's to truly enjoy this kind of authenticity. One of them being Flora and another being Kamling at Churchgate. Just impeccable food and so so true to its cuisine also my granny's favourite place for having her birthdays here as the staff take extra care for her spice intake. Food has flavours in abundance here. Another must try is their wasabi prawns, lettuce wrap, Kung Pao chicken and the assorted dimsum basket and the angel hair 🍝 👌🏼

I been to Leela's recently with my colleagues. We all are Chinese cuisine fans and thought of going to the great wall. Though we give out of marks to the ambience. It's truly mesmerizing!! But we went bit late than reserved time so the staff were not very hostile and told to make orders asap. No assistance in ordering food. We ordered total 15 dishes but were not very happy with the orders. The quality and taste of food doesnt not justify the price. I can list 50 elite restaurants in Mumbai serving best food with great ambience and hostile staffs.

Great ambience, most of the tables are overlooking a garden. Their menu has not changed over the years, but good fresh ingredients and the dishes are rightly spiced. Highly recommend the lettuce wraps and assorted dimsum basket ( veg and non-veg). Particularly liked some of the stir fried dishes- the chinese greens and broccoli in garlic sauce. In the non-veg, the fish in chilli sauce was rightly spiced. The egg fried rice was also good, not oily and had the right flavour. Overall not too expensive as compared to the other five star restaurants

We have been dining here since the last 25 years and Great Wall is one of Mumbai's oldest Chinese restaurant.

Having a fancy Chinese meal in chopsticks was a treat in yester times, but one thing that still remains unchanged is the interiors of this place. They have managed to still retain the same charm and undoubtedly our attachment to this restaurant only takes us a walk down memory lane.

The service is top notch and the servers are quite attentive to your needs, which is definitely expected in a 5*

As far as the Food goes, it's fairly average, and not the best in the league.

The first thing you notice about Great Wall is brilliant ambiance with nice soft music playing in the background. This is the only Chinese restaurant in bombay which I've been to, serve Chinese tea wholeheartedly. Not once we have asked for the tea to be refilled it gets done automatically which is a refreshing change from most of the restaurants who are always stingy to serve chinese tea. The dimsums we had were above average so were the appetisers. The main course was also really good. The mango Cantonese mousse is worth trying. The only flip side is the restaurant is on a bit expensive side. The service was pretty good and if you want to spend really nice time eating Chinese food the Great Wall is an ideal place to be at

We happened to dine at The Great Wall after 8 odd years last weekend when my cousin absolutely insisted he was craving Chinese food for lunch. You can see the entrance to this restaurant on the mezannine floor just as you make your way past the lobby because there's a flight of beautiful stairs leading down to the Great Wall establishment.

The view from any of their tables by the window is no ordinary one you'll find at any of the other establishments in Bombay. Since there were about 8 of us, they gave us the circular enclosure towards the back-end of the restaurant and from where I was seated, it seemed like we were at a restaurant in Bali just because of the big rock faux water fall they had created outside.

It’s difficult to order badly, but vegetarian newbies should begin with classics like the babycorn, mushroom and waterchestnut salt and pepper vegetables, sichuan dumplings, and crystal dumplings. For the main course, you could sample the tofu in blackbean sauce, or the stir fried chinese greens in garlic sauce with their sticky vegetarian fried rice. We were pretty full from eating all of these but someone on a table far away ordered a sizzler and the aroma and sound theatrics compelled us to order a vegetarian sizzler with lotus roots, mushroom, zucchini and bell peppers. It was lovely.

This was our third visit to The Wall, Leela. That says it’s all as we love the food and the ambience. The service is also expectional. This time, a new manager Mr Chetan More was there who was also very helpful. The green flora and the soothing effect of the waterfall adds to the taste of the food. We were so hungry that we forgot to click pics of the food 😄😄

This is was my fourth visit to The Great Wall and I am literally bereft of words for describing how good it was. The most mesmerising thing about the restaurant is its interior/decor; it has hardly changed since 1988 yet so elegant and the moment you walk in, you are transported to China. Light instrumental chinese music also adds to the experience with the burbling sound of the waterfall (always try to get a table near the waterfall). Nestled in the basement of Leela Mumbai, it is still probably the best places in town to catch a peaceful/wonderful lunch. This time I took the bigger set lunch (not the express one) and it was fantastic. Every dish had a thought of why it needs to be there and it tasted all authentic. The highlight was the Manchow Soup (the best I ever had) and Konjee Crispy Lamb. Unbelievably good. Dim Sums here are worth Million Dollars and I am not kidding. Try their Har Gow, Sui Mai and and Cripsy Prawn Cheung Fun and y’all believe it. It almost feels like you’re dining in a Michelin starred restaurant in Hong Kong/Singapore. The restaurant is 35 years old and has matured in a way to get things right by default. It was always blessed with talented mentors from London & Singapore and the food quantity remains consistent as well as high. Chef Milan Newton deserves a special praise. He’s been in The Great Wall since 1992 and is an expert of his craft. The Nair’s of The Leela Group are in no mood of letting him go anytime soon. Also giving a shoutout to Mr. Glenn for giving an amazing/entertaining service. He was always attentive and very respectful. There’s something about The Great Wall that is very appealing to me and I am somehow emotionally connected to it now. The restaurant has my loyalty forever!

We had an excellent dinner tonight. Dim Sum, Hakka noodles, mango puding and ice cream, very well prepared, served and delicious. Highly recommend. Mr. Franklin and Mr. Suhas are super elegant and kind. They made our dinner very enjoyable. :) Thank you!

It setting and ambience of the restaurant was fantastic and the services given is perfectly good. The best will be the food the taste was matching or even better than the actual chinese restaurant. It was mesmerising and if you are given a choice its a definite return

Million Dollar Dim Sums, fantastic Chinese decor, non/intrusive courteous service and worth every penny. My favourite place in all of Mumbai for indulging in Pan Asian delicacies (especially dimsums). You honestly feel like you’re dining in a coveted Michelin starred asian restaurant in Hong Kong or London. The table near the waterfall is a beauty in itself. Its the best if judged overall. Special shoutout to Chef Milan Newton & Servers Rushikesh & Glenn for making my dining experience worthwhile.

The Great Wall, The Leela Mumbai's traditional Chinese restaurant is a great place to enjoy authentic Chinese in luxurious surroundings. Try and get a table near the water fountain which lends an instant feel of calmness while dining. there are lot of photo opportunities around the restaurant and the bar is impressive as well. the restaurant serves delicious Chinese delicacies and often there are specials like the express lunch that can be enjoyed by patrons. evening dining is more laid back and romantic but try booking a table. Valet parking is available. The service is attentive, good and non intrusive.

The place serves the usual Chinese fare though the food is very good. I do wish that there would be some variety in the menu - given the fine dining experience! It is heart breaking to pay the higher prices for the same truffle and edamame dumplings which have now become a staple fare in all Chinese restaurants. Also, the place was deserted on a weekend - not a great sign though we have been there a few times and would definitely head there again. A shoutout to Mr. Menezes who has been with the place for 30+ years and makes the guests feel really special.

One of the finest Chinese restaurants I have ever been too. The decor is so appropriate and appealing and when you pair that with amazing service plus high quality food, that is what you ever need. This hidden gem should rise back to popularity again. The dim sums especially were absolutely 11/10. Recommending it to everyone...

Absolutely one of my fav Chinese restaurants by a long shot. Little Pricey and portions are designed more for tasting vs family style sharing - so make sure you order appropriately in a group setting. Authentic flavors - try out the dumplings!

This place its just Perfect. The manager is so professional and so good that he makes you feel great all the team. As soon as you need more water, you have more water, another spoon, another dish, everything is cleaned up so good. Went there twice as we were hosted at The Leela hotel, and it was probably one of the best restaurants we had in India so far, even tho Indian food is outstanding, we felt like this Chinese restaurant was a mixture between Chinese and Indian which made it even more impressive. Tasted so many different dishes, but If i had to choose something, any kind of prawns were just great. Moreover the lobster and the crab were great. Strongly recommend it and i will be back next time in hosted at The Leela for sure.
