Went to this place as I am a Gujarati n Kathiyawadi food lover.... Ambiance is small but pleasent one waiters are dressed in kurta n dhoti was a traditional touch.... Ordered thali which is unlimited, about food.....4 vegetables served but taste was not as per my expectations only potato gravi was good one .... Farsans and chutneys were good... Dal again not up to the mark but kadhi was bang on.... I opted for plain rice as there was an option for khichadi.... For salad they served chunks of Kukumbar and Carrots I expect some better serving option for this..... Extra star for the serving as the waiters don't pour in food in your thali (I experienced in most thali or buffet restaurants) they serve limited food but ask if you need more ..... Hope they improve on my suggestions... Would love to visit again.

A pure vegetarian, thali place with a few ala carte items. We we're regulars here around 2010-11, then life happened. The food is simple, every items has it's own distinct, yet, good taste. Dahi vada is one to die for, chapatis r soft n freshly baked, veggies vary everyday n moong dal khichdhi has that clear taste of fresh unskinned moong.

We went back today (Jan 2019) after 8 years. The staff are still the same, food is still great n the warmth if the staff there is still awesome. A renovation work n better lighting is called for, but no complaints.

This place is situated on the main road seems like in mear corner just that it's a bit covered up with people selling items on the streets.
Do not judge this place on how it looks it's a fully air conditioned place and the ambiance is pretty much like a old restaurant with gujrati wall art on certain parts. This place serves Gujrati Thali which it is known for and also had a seperate section but didn't try that. There were many options and limited at a very affordable price. Tried out the Chole Puri which comes with 6 puris which is sufficient for one person and chole is sufficient for 2 persons can order few more puris. Then tried the Pav Bhaji which came with standard 2 pavs which was also very very tasty it's a must try place do not judge the ambiance the service and food is amazing turned our hungry day to a feast of tastilious veg food. This place is not for spicy ppl, most of the veggies have small sweet test along with it. The gujrati thali is pretty authentic. There is dhoka and dili served as startup but I would say go for main menu. Also dal kahich di is better than the dal and white rice combined if are trying to escape some sweetness.

The place might not top charts for Thali dinners, but it is definitely one of the good places to relish the traditional Maharashtrian Thali. Just one thing that might turn you off is the fact that they don't serve Aam Rass ultimately. You have to pay 40 extra for every extra bowl.

Went here randomly for a weekend thali as I was craving it.

Have seen this place many times but never actually tried it so decided to give it a go this time round.

It's a very clean place (compared to the hustle, bustle and grime outside the place). their waiters are dressed in traditional wear and serve you well (you don't expect this kind of a thing when you see the place from the outside).

The thali was spectacular. Very nice. Very filling. And more importantly: unlimited   :)A definite go-to-thali place again!

Amidst lot of shopping around this restaurant is known for its thalis and veg food. Close to dadar station too ie walking distance. The ambience is clean and hygienic say a 3.5/5. Service was quick, kind and good. More than ala carte loved the thali menu and the pricing excellent.

Being a Sunday the thali pricing is more but simply the food and quality and quantity both excellent. The thali consisted of gujarati and rajasthani food which was laden with ghee and yummy too. So many subzis with chaas, dahi wada, rotis, jeera paratha, papad, chutneys, white and yellow dhokla, kachori, dal, kadhi. In sweets gulab jamun or fruit custard. And the best is that is thali is unlimited. Didn't have rice or khichdi as was too full.

I enjoy having thalis and enjoyed this thali too. Only taxes are not good with the meal.
But the food and service is definitely good.

Visited this place for the first time few days ago.  Nothing fancy about the place. A plain and simple Thali joint with no frills. The place was neat and clean. The staff was courteous.

We went for FIVE Grand Thalis to GO at Rs 175 per Thali.  Thalis were packed in 15 minutes. It was packed in use and throw plastic containers with spoon so no mess of cleaning at home after eating.

It had two subzis, dal, rice, 5 very small chapatis, pickle, salad, papad, and one sweet dish. For an average person the Grand Thali is sufficient but not enough for someone with large appetite.  Person with large appetite should go for bigger Thali at Rs 265 per thali.

The taste of all items was pretty decent.

In a nutshell, you can visit this place with family if you are looking for a clean VEGETARIAN homemade style food.

Exceptional Thali, authentic and not oily at all.
I have been to Toran several times whenever i have craved for an authentic Gujarati meal. This evening when I went there it was the best experience ever - the menu for the thali was great. Bhindi sabji and samosas totally stole the show. The dal and kadhi like always was outstanding. Puran poli was lovely and then subjis were delicious too. The staff is very welcoming and feed you with so much love.

Was looking for a place to eat before hopping on to a Shivneri to Pune.

Since it was around 7:30 p.m , my wife and I needed something more substantial than a vadapav but not a full fledged meal at the same time.

Saw this place, looked nice and clean. Servers moving around in dhotis and kurtas. Went in to eat a dosa, found out that the Thali is ready and took a gamble and ordered it.

The food is light and good. Each dish served has a distinct taste and most importantly is not oily. The dishes i remember fondly are the gatta bhaji, aamras, chaas, bhindi , light fluffy phulkas and last but not the least the hightlight - moong khichadi.

Considering that there was a 4 hour road journey ahead of us, a Thali was definitely a gamble, but it paid off. The food settled in nicely, with no discomfort usually associated after a heavy meal.

The only reason I am not giving it a rating of 4 is the price. The food was wholesome and had a homemade taste, but 300 bucks a thali ( after adding taxes and all) seemed a bit on the higher side.

This visit was different from the others one I have made for a simple reason -  taking my mentee along (those who are intrigued can please have a look at "Mentor Me India" - Zomato does not allow links to be posted so if you could just google). Reasons for taking him along unknown to me but I was wishfully hoping something good might come of it - unfortunately, he didn't eat much of the food. So, coming to food now, specifically the Gujarati Thali, which is sumptuous and mostly sweet - it starts with quintessential dhokla and papad (like appetizers), then comes four different kinds of curries along with roti and puran poli followed by rice or khichdi (latter is preferred) with dal, again sweet, (main course is done) and finally, sweet dish either gulab jamun or custard (you also get chaas to drink or atleast that's what I thought it was). Overall, the food is good and fulfilling (nothing extraordinary) and is worth trying for a decent change once in a while (and yes, the food is served traditional style by dhoti-kurta waiters if that interests you :) )

You are sure to give this place a miss unless you know about it or someone invites you to eat here.
A small set up but full of warmth with the waiters dress complimenting the food menu. Pre defined Gujarati thalli with unlimited servings... Dhoklas and pappad and butter milk to start with followed by different savories like daal and paneer mattar etc. Of course you need to have a sweet tooth to enjoy gujju food. Loved the dahi vada and daal baati.

Looking for a bed to sleep as make sure you don't over indulge :)

I had to go to Dadar to visit Swami Narayan Temple. No, I am not too religious, but my better-half is. So, after offering prayers to God, time to look for good restaurant around Dadar. Yet another instance where Zomato app was called in for help.

The Lush restaurant was top of the list in the search result. It was a Sunday evening and on top of it mezzanine floor of The Lush restaurant was booked for a private party. With our stomach craving for food, we decided to search for another restaurant. Toran restaurant on zomato had decent reviews but, more importantly it was stone throw away from The Lush.

We headed to Toran and surprisingly we got the table. This restaurant is located on express highway on the busy street below the Dadar bridge. You could easily miss the spot.

Anyway, Toran is simple, not so fancy restaurant. Ambiance is not so great and dim lighting makes you feel like you are sitting in typical bar room. My better-half expressed her hesitation and doubted the quality of the food that would be served. Well, I trust reviews on Zomato more than anything else as far as food is concerned.

We asked for menu, waiter told me only Thali and Pav bhaji is served here. Mind you, its unlimited Thali for 250 bucks. So serving started, first chutney, then samosa (delicious), patra (in Gujrati it is called Patra, dont know any other name for it), 3 subzi, dal, kadhi, aloo chat, butter milk, chapati, rice, khichdi with ghee (it was awesome), dal-baati (this came very late when we were having Khichdi, so didnt taste it) and 2 Gulab Jamun (limited)

Service was slow, ambiance sucks, however, with close to 37 degree outside, Toran was chilly and gave us respite from the heat.

Overall, if you are in Dadar East and want to eat 'Ghar type Khana' you may visit this place. Few food items weren't so great, while others were exceptional. Toran cannot be compared with Rajdhanis and Thacker of the world. But for 250 bucks, you cant ask for more. Its paisa vasool :P

Toran is located near Dadat TT in Pritam Estate on the highway. Even though it looks tiny and not very fancy, the food they serve is too yummy. They have a thali consisting of gujarati as well as rajasthani as a combo that serves exceptionally well. It would consists of 4-5 vegetables, 1 daal, kadhi, papad, phulkas, makai roti, daal kichadi, rice, dahi wada, chaas, cuatard, makai halwa, dhokla, cutlet, salad, daal baati, and all types of wordly chatnis. All this food is unlimited for a person and it tastes too good. Mind me, you will come out licking your fingers. They have also recebtly started a box meal service which is a delivery of this entire food minus a few to your destination, packed in a box. Dont worry about the parking, even though there is no vallet, there is pay n park facility right opposite the hotel under the dadar bridge.

Ever since I have moved to Mumbai I wanted to try an authentic Gujrati Thali. And behold Toran...loved the Thali starting with farsan and a range of vegetables and dal followed by kadi and khichdi. And a glass of salty chaas to wash it down and a fine dudhi halwa to end the meal. The only thing I found missing was a bed to lie down after such a hearty meal. Highly recommended.

A small cosy place in Dadar east just behind the legendary Pritam's dhaba . Its very homely and very nice home made food served .. absolute shudh shakahari . The clean and hygenic place to have food . A person like me who has been in mumbai for 4 days and longing for good home made food , though gujrati and Rajasthani ... Yet awesome food . Simple , yet soul feeling food on a thalli . Lovely the Gujrati kaddi which had a tinch of sweetness and cut the acidic nature of the Curd . Loved the Flat bean vegetable prepared in Gujarati , Rajasthani style .  Chutneys specifically the Garlic red chutney out of the world ... Though small but crisp rotis . The small samosa were awesome . filling was potato and peas but size of it was so small one could have at least 4 of it . Crispy papad made of rice . Most it is damn cheap to pocket when compared in context to mumbai .  They serve 4 sabjees and dal with rice and khichdi ... one can have as much one likes no restrictions .

3 types of chutneys ... Lehsoon ki , imli , Green chutney with salad .  also serve  Chanch ... butter milk .  in dessert  , fruit custard was served ...

Simple food with a taste so authentic is Gourmet food for me

Next time whenever iam in mumbai ... my dinner iam gonna be there again .

Mumbai is always known for its thali food , You can get Maharashtrian thali , gujrati , rajasthani , punjabi and many others . So our ganpati visarjan day ended with exquisite gujrati thali . This place is quite old and also know to localites . Ambiance of the place is quite usual and severs were in traditional dress (Dhoti-Kurta)
We opted for the unlimited thali  . As usual first served with the appetisers and butter milk . Three type of chutnies , samosa , papad , gatte , aloo fry ,  mutter paneer , sweet gujrati kadi and daal everything was delicious right from the butter milk served everything tastes like home cooked food and i was told it was without onion and garlic which was delighting because without it also it tasted heavenly served with small ghee rotis and bajra rotis along with daal baati and churma laddu which were good though less on ghee :P :D . Rice and moong daal khichdi was also served which was delighting and equally good like rest at the end we were served with pineapple flavored sheera which was heavenly prepared with lots of semolina and ghee and pineapples flavouring . At the end we were all filled like big tanks :P.
Coming to service i can give full point , servers were cheerful and were obliging for each of our request.Very good experience indeed i can say after eating out here.

Located bang in the middle of Dadar, this small thali restaurant is certainly a must try for gujrati thali enthusiasts. I have had a number of gujrati thalis across mumbai, and this one at Torans certainly stands a chance to be one of the best in the city. It is comfortably situated on the main road in Dadar east opposite the Pune bus pick up point and hence an easy access for tourists and general people alike.

The assortment of items on your large plate will have plenty of varieties to satiate your taste buds. They generally offer 3 to 4 variey of curries, a sweet dal and a gujarati kadi along with different variety of breads like Bajra raoti and pooris. Also try the khichdi in the thali meal

Tip - Have atleast 2 to 3 servings of the sweet and sour gujarati kadi in the last. And carry the tangy taste with you hours after you walk out of the meal.

Here is my review score

Ambiance & dine in experience - 7/10
Serving quantity - 9/10 (Served in unlimited quantities)
Appetizer options- 4/10
Food taste - 8/10
Service - 8.5/10 (Self service)
Cost - 7/10

Overall - 3.5/5

Recommended - For a taste of the authentic gujju thali in the center of the city, and when you want to stuff the maximum

Not recommended - For A la carte

Any worth-a-reco experience - Obviosuly gujarati kadi, and any of the special sabjis in those cute cups

Any sour experience - Do not have many options when you dont want to have a thali

It was by chance that I spotted Toran in Dadar, when we friends were in search of a restaurant before boarding the Shivneri bus for Pune. From the outside, it seemed unimpressive for a decent meal. But the name seemed attractive to us and we decide to give Toran a try.
It is a small place inside, but is cosy and gives considerable privacy to the customers. The ambience is excellent. The waiters are dressed in the typical Maharashtrian style, a white dhoti and a kurta. The place is hygienic and the food too is tasty. We ordered a dahi wada, a veg. grilled sandwich, steamed idli and pav bhaji. The food is served fresh from the kitchen and the waiters are very quick in their service. Surprisingly, when we asked for the bill, we were more than happy to pay for the sumptuous food.
Again the same set of us visited Toran after few months, this time with the agenda to try all on the menu. Though there's not much variety in the menu, but after having tried almost everything on the menu, I can give the menu a thumbs up!
Overall, its a very good place to dine or even grab a light snack. Best place for travellers before boarding their buses!
Families ar even group of friends can spend time at this place, with less burden on the wallet.
Must visit place for vegetarians.
