Located in Breach Candy; The Sun is a famous PURE Vegetarian restaurant and I would highly recommend you to try their Kaju Paneer which is really different (delicious and tasty) and we have not heard of any other restaurant serving this atleast in Mumbai.
You know there are some restaurants with fixed customers and the ones that don't really care about the reviews? The Sun veg restaurant is one amongst them. Popular with families around that area, Sun offers North Indian food, basically vegetarian Naan Paneer options and easily accommodates large gatherings by joining up tables and chairs to fit the size of the family.
Our usual order here is Dum Aloo Amritsari and Kaju Paneer. Probably our favourite sabzis from the entire menu but items like Hara Bhara Kebabs etc are also not bad in starters. This place is also quite famous for its Biryani and you have got to try it.
Very good tasty and hygienic food but the quantity is too less staff is co operative recommand to hike quantity and change the ambience food is made of good quality atta
Great food. Paneer here is amazing. Small restaurant, perfect for a quick lunch. Starters are good too. Have been coming here for years and the food and the place is still the same. Fully recommended.
It's my family's go-to restaurant if we can't decide a place.
The food out here is really yummy especially the Kaju Paneer and Black Dal. Even the Hara Bhara Kebab is good.We also love the Paneer Makhanwala here. The rotis need to be told to them to be a little more cooked crisp .
But the main Con here is slow service ... You have to wait and sometimes go to the POS to generate your bill .Or else I like the food.
It has been our family restaurant since 1984 and I visited it after 30 years the food still tastes the same... loved the food.. paneer masala... veg do pyaaza
Food has been good and consistent for a long time. It's right below my place and I have been eating from this place from more than 30 year now. Paneer Tikka and dal makhani is good.
This place doesnt need a review ...absolutely legendary .. it still looks the same and the taste is the sameee... vegetarian north indian good yummmmm
Food
Hara bhara kebab : it was well cooked and the taste was good ... the crust of the kebab was nice n crunchy ...and the filling nice n moist
Panner tikka masala: yummy ...
Panner butter masala : again super yumm flavourful and tasty
Veg kolhapuri : spicy chunky veggies ...and the gravy was good and nice ...
Malai kofta : really good should order
Masla padad : u cant go wrong with this ever
Love the food here. Ambience is apt for a family outing. Extremely humble and friendly staff. Quality of service is excellent. All time favourite place :)
Nicely Placed outlet at Breach Candy Opposite Tata Gardens..Decided for a lunch on a hot Sunny day with office Colleagues after a meeting.. has a pleasant Decor and ambience..Faced some seating arrangement issues as it was overcrowded at first with kitty parties going on..But soon it got empty and we shifted to a well positioned table..After settling Down, being a group of 5 we ordered the following,
Cream of Tomato soup (2/3), Masala Papad (3 Qty) as starters..Start to the meal was Good.. Further ordered 2 veggies, Kaju Paneer and Malai Kofta - 2 each in Qty..Biggy in Qty..Chapati,Butter Nan Kulcha, Butter Paratha, Stuff Paratha..All the indian Bread Variants were soft and tasty.. ice tea and fresh lime soda which my colleagues had..Also tasted good..
Chutney deserves a mention..Very Good in taste..Even if you have it alone..Won't disappoint you..
With simultaneous talks and Munching ,Being full on tummies.. summed it up with desserts , Malai Kulfi and Chocolate Sundae..Quality and Quantity a Thumbs Up..The Malai Kulfi had the original Kulfi like taste and the Sunday was loaded with Chocolate Sauce and Nuts..:)
The only glitch I found is in the servicing..Which is slow.. needs to be quicker.. because it depicts a careless attitude sometimes.
Overall a 4/5 considering the servicing glitch..:)
Just visited once and I'll make sure I visit you back soon because your North Indian food is excellent followed with great service and at a reasonable price.
The Sun is a very old Restaurant in Breach Candy. They have changed their menu also over the years. I like their Tomato Soup, Paneer Tikka and Dal Makhani. They can surely improve further in service.
This is an old place, they have kept the same menu over the years. The food is good same taste they have maintained over the years. I like their soup and starters a lot.
The Sun has been at Breach Candy since as long as we can remember. It is located opposite Tata Garden at Breach Candy
We recently dined there.
Parking is an issue generally and there is no valet.
We had the following
Cream of Tomato ✔ Good
Veg Sheesh Kebab ➖ Average
Malai Kofta ✔ Good
Vegetable Makhanwala ✔ Good
Naans were decent
Service was average and kind of slow
Price was reasonable.
Decent place to try

According to everyone this is a very old North Indian dining place. We had ordered for paneer tikka, veg seekh kebab, tomato soup for starters and it was quite filling.
One of the oldest North Indian restaurants in the area of Breach Candy, it's a tiny restaurant that has lasted time, the quality of the food is just awesome and it doesn't have the frills of a fancy restaurant
Try the Kadhai paneer
The stuffed vegetable biryani is a must to eat or even order in
Must also try the garlic naan, they make it rather well
Tried and tested and good value for money too
Have been a regular visitor of this restaurant since last few years...it's my personal favorite for north Indian cuisine! An ultimate place for a pure vegetarian (Jain on selected days) like me!! It has an ambicable ambience and amazing location.
Their mouth melting paneer is @ the core of majority delectable dishes they serve.
The Veg. Kolapuri is one of the best ever!!
It tastes spicy but the taste doesn't stress on the chilly powder for it ...The sabzi is rather spiced up by blend of black pepper, bay leaf ,clove, red chilly and mace.
Paneer butter Masala actually seems to be tomato curry & paneer choaked in butter. The savour of mixed spices & butter will definitely make your mouth salivate!!
From the tandoor section almost all of them are nice...as they cook it in a made to order manner. Precisely as per your choice.
Veg biryani....the guiltless way to end your meal. Again an awesome tadka with butter charred steam rice. Finally the snauf and the ...

It has been a ritual to visit this place at least once every year. And for so many reasons! Yesterday was one such reason :)
My first tryst with Punjabi Food ever, at the age of 6 has been at The Sun. Those good 'ol days when I used to mistake Naan for Paneer Tikka. Ever since, I have grown to love Punjabi Food - From being Anti Paneer to becoming a Paneer lover, this restaurant has been instrumental in so many ways!
Not much has changed here. For as long as I can remember, the place has looked the same, the staff is the same and the food also tastes the same. Every time we visit, we tend to start early around 7.30 pm. Which is why we always enter when its empty. After which the place starts getting flooded with people looking for an all vegetarian, Indian Food joint.
Over the years, a pretty much standard menu has evolved for us. Dishes that you just cannot go wrong with. And if you're visiting, the following are absolute must haves:
Starters:
Minestrone Soup
Sweet Corn Soup
Cream of Tomato Soup
Palak Soup
Bread Platter (An accompaniment for the Soups)
Out of all their soups, Minestrone is my favorite. It is light, yet filling and with the finely chopped vegetables, it has a lovely color and flavour.
The Cream of Tomato Soup appeals to non-tomato fans like me as well. Its creamy consistency and zing of herbs is an added bonus.
I'm not the biggest fan or Sweet Corn or Palak, although they tasted quite nice. It may look otherwise from the below par presentation, but taste wise, they're not too bad.
Paneer Tikka
Aloo Tikka
My 'From the Tandoor' absolute favorites! These dishes look pretty tempting as well.
The paneer was so soft, it as good as melted in my mouth. With a rich marinate coating and served with thin slices of slightly charred capsicums, onions and tomatoes, this is an absolute delight to eat! Yum yum yummm!
Small globules of boiled potato cut into half, covered with a spicy masala marinate and smoked to perfection, makes your mouth water at the very first sight of the Aloo Tikka. Both the dishes must be eaten with the green pudina chutney!
Main Course:
Paneer Butter Masala
Veg. Kolhapuri
Navratan Korma
Veg. Special Curry
Dum Aloo Kashmiri
Dal Makhani
Tandoori Roti
Butter Naan
Butter Kulcha
Garlic Butter Naan
Garlic Cheese Naan
Veg. Biryani
Truckloads of Papad
All the Indian Vegetables were served in steelware, like the traditional Indian kadhai's. Veg. Kolhapuri is a must have if you want a spicy option, even the Special Curry. Both with a red and green gravy base respectively, sans Paneer is a very tasty blend of vegetables.
Navratan Korma and Veg. Makhanwala are both on the mildly spicy side.
Paneer Butter Masala if you're an ardent fan of Paneer.
Dum Aloo Kashmiri if you love aloo!
The Dal Makhani, an excellent accompaniment with your food - yummy as can get!
I've eaten vegetables with Roti, Naan, Kulcha et all. They're all great. But of late, my new favorite is Garlic Naan. With the softest dough and a non pungent garlic-ey flavour, this naan topped with heaps of butter is a great bet. Also the Garlic Cheese Naan which is thick layer of dough stuffed with a mixture of garlic, cheese and corriander makes for a bite that mellows down the spice and heat from the vegetables. Great combination!
The Veg. Biryani, steaming hot has an excellent balance of the traditional Indian flavours. Best way to complete the meal!
From a family that needs Papad with every meal, especially Indian Meals, 16 papads is well, not that big a number. From plain fried and roasted papad, to masala fried and roasted papad, we have tasted all their options! The Sun has set a benchmark for Masala Papads in my head. By far the best ones I have ever eaten!
Food - 4/5
Ambience - 2.5/5
Service - 4/5
A long standing favorite! A place that I have frequented for so many years and will for many many more to come - not just for the memories, but all the good food!
You're sure to have a great meal as well :)
A very old North Indian restaurant located opposite Tata Gardens, this place has been frequently visited by me for one reason - the food. You shouldn't be bothering about anything else once you're here. The ambiance is just OK. Staff is sort of weird. Some people have been here for years and they keep staring at you like it's a crime eating. Coming to the food, I've tried a lot of their starters and vegetables and nothing has fallen short of impressive. The Paneer Tikka might be lukewarm when it arrives so while ordering, insist on it being hot. Soups are good too. Food is slightly on the pricier side but the taste definitely provides a bang for your buck.
I definitely look forward to my next visit, provided that the staff doesn't creep me out.
Located brilliantly, bang opposite Tata gardens. Same interiors since years, the staff either look disinterested or some look over enthusiastic. The food is excellent as always, tomato soup was not that good.. But Veg makhanwala was brilliant.. Shortage of restaurants in that area will mean that THE SUN will always be popular :)
This is one of the oldest restaurants in Mumbai which has gimme all the new as well as old restaurants serving Punjabi & Mughlai a run for their money..i have eating food since a child..its our families favorite restaurant...love their paneer tikka masala..navratna korma...shama savera (hara mara kabab in red gravy)..Bunty Singhal
Love this restaurant since childhood. I am 55 years old now.
Love its ambience and love to eat there rather than take away.
One of the best veg restaurants in South
Mumbai and specialising in Jain food.
There are some restaurants which don't have the best ambience nor provide the best service , but there is something about them that you can't quite put you're finger on that draws you to them . Almost every foodie I know has a couple of such places that he loves, even though they might not be the best , I like to call them ' my places of zen ' and one such place for me is the sun.
I have been to The Sun a lot of times and I haven't ordered anything else on the menu other than the following items , masala papad one roasted one fried , malai kofta , paneer butter masala and butter naan.
I love the way these dishes are prepared , they can give dishes from many of the fine dine restaurants a run for their money . The naan here is amazing a perfect mix of butteryness, crispness and softness . the paneer gravy is rich and full of flavour and the malai kofta is heavenly.
The staff here is nice , the service is fast , the place is clean and the ambience is decent .It is moderately expensive, but there is something about this simple place that makes me (a hardcore non vegeterian) feel at home at 'Pure Veg ' restaurant. So if you happen to be near be near breach candy and want a Fulfilling meal in simple but nice pure veg restaurant 'The Sun' is definitely place for you.
Ps- There is a parking lot near the restaurant.
Went here at a friend's behest after a tiring thurs!!loved the fact that the place was very quiet and gives u piece of mind...very few places do that nowadays!!
The menu is not the most exceptional one..but its towards the later part of the menu dat u realise their soeciality..order the Red Princess Biryani(yes dats a name) and its served with cutlets and red sauce and it was really nice!!
The only complaint was the tomato gravy which wasnt upto the mark but i think it was the tomatos at fault and not the chef!!
All in all a satisfying experienceif not the most exceptional
Old favourite place...nice punjabi food...We have tried masala papad ...cream of tomato soup...Their signature is sabji do pyazza and palak mushroom. .also breads served are absolutely fantastic. ..A must have is chili cheese garlic naan and masala kulcha ...best breads in town !!!
Nuthin to write abt ambience...All in all good North Indian food.Thumps up...!!
An old favourite. I love the Paneer Butter Masala, the Malai Kofta, the Red Princess and the Veg do Piaza. The Paneer Kofta is good too. The Rotis however, aren't upto the mark. We generally take it away and eat at home, hence, it works out. The cost isn't too high, maybe 5/700 odd per head. If you live around the area, quite a good bet.
Poor quality but the capsicum rings were brilliant and ever other things were like okayish the vegetables were not what we thought it would be
Nice north Indian restru...wid good quality food n staff. Green chatni of dis place is splly superb ... Serve authentic north Indian food. I der to eat Punjabi mostly
Used to be The most popular amongst vegetarians. Still couple of dishes are fairly good. I love the aloo chaat. It's spicy tangy and lip smacking. The mint chutney that they serve is also my fav. Veg cheese shahi curry, cheese kulcha, and 999 biryani are ones to definitely try. And the butter phulkas are not to miss. Comforting and homely environment and the service is also welcoming.
For the fastidious Sobo Vegetarian, this is the right place. The ambience is decent, architecturally it is one long restaurant (almost reminiscent of a train compartment, if you may) opposite the Tata Garden at Breach Candy.
Being a phoolka lover over a rice lover, their phoolkas especially the ones who like them thin, soft and in a wheat base, they work! The Shammi Kababs are scrumptious and a must-try. The Red Princess Biryani is a also a great option, unique in flavour and essence.
Don't go expecting the stars, but expect to be comforted and expect to be back more often than not on any given day for a simple yet, delicious starter + main course (roti, subzi, biryani) + dessert meal.

One of the best pure vegetarian restaurants in south Mumbai. Serves North Indian food. The Minestrone soup is very nice and the main vegetables are awesome. Can try Stuffed capsicum which is very good. For rice biryani and red princess are worth trying. Nice food and nice ambience
The food over here is amazing. The staff is very polite and friendly and good ambience and value for money food.
This place has such delicious food and a beautiful interior design. We were there when it was basically empty, so it was nice and calm and we had a nice lunch. The service was very good. This place is a bit pricier coming from Europe, but worth it!
#letsguide Running since a decades, Sun is now more emotions and comfort than food really. That familiar taste of the dishes from the same menu going on since years, is unmatched. The staff is friendly and offers to customise the dishes as per your taste buds. The service is quick and it's quite economical. We love coming here!

Sun Restaurant at breach candy is my favourite restaurant, food excellent , atmosphere is also nice n good, rich people used to come n having their lunch n dinner as well ,people from nearby takeaway the parcel from here ,
Whenever u go n plan to sun Restaurant do not miss to have kaju paneer ka sabji, veg, makhanwal.u also get Jain food but limited, previously they used to server Jain samosa, now they had stopp serving, but samosa is extra ordinary.
Sun is one of the best places to visit . I personally have been visiting this place since childhood and have not been disappointed a single time. The food is very good and the staff is also friendly.
Kaju paneer and phulka are the two high lights of this place! We usually accompany the same with namkeen Lassi! This restaurant is specifically known for its Kaju Paneer and the best part is that they have maintained the taste and quality till date! Costs around INR 1000 for two.
Going strong for over 60 years....this is an institution in Mumbai.... The place has been a meeting point for tips on stocks during the many boom & bust of equity markets that the city has experienced over the decades.
Must visit
SO GOOD !!! I have literally been a customer here for almost two years now and this place never ceases to amaze me. If you are looking for some good authentic north indian food, do yourself a favor and visit this place ASAP
It's been there since 45-50 years here, now, and few of its dishes still carry the same taste. Maintained taste, food, quality.. Renovated quite many times but loses its ambience with patches on ceilings, walls, due to water seepage, which has never found a solution.
All marks for Veg cuisine maintained.
Visited this place for the first time. My wife and sister had visited about 20 years back. They've still maintained the quality after all these years
Definitely can visit again
Food good but slow service.
It's located on brechcandy area.
This is small but good &quite restaurant.
Service is good.
Interior is nice. Can sit talk & eat.
Food tastes is really nice. Quality is maintained by them. Panner kofta is good
Nan other items also good.
Price is proper.
Crowd is also good because of good location. And quality food.
Premium hotel. A bit overpriced because of the premium location.
