I was in cst for shopping to this location and I finished my shopping around lunch and I was looking for something authentic and fast so my friend suggested me to look for this iconic place known as vitthals and to my surprise it was amazing with the quality of of the sev Puri .They also customize your chaat item as per your taste.
Quite a reasonable food menu. Quite an unreasonable bar menu. The restaurant seating area is very pleasantly air conditioned though not very spacious. Good place for a decent meal.
You are taking delivery charges RS.50/- which is too much for a short distance of 5 mts.
I was travelling for work to this location and I finished my work around lunch and I was looking for something authentic and fast so my friend suggested me to look for this iconic place known as vitthals and to my surprise it was amazing with the quality of of the bhel, it was something which I was actually lookin to have it was savoury n filling i only didn't like the pani puri coz Mumbai offers better than what they serve. Staff was very efficient and courteous to ask me why haven't I finished pani puri I told them I didn't like it they apologised. To be honest it's an iconic restaurant with a history of its own the old building is not the place where from they operate its four shops after the old shop they are operating from. It's a must for you if you are around this place n love street food with a edge over others specially in bhel
Dahi puri was melted when I received. other food was good. I think they should change the packagingof dahi piri.
An old place which started off as a chat place and grew to be so famous that people used to pack stuff when they went abroad and visit it as soon as possible. They branched out, some internal fights and it fell off the radar.
One fine day it pinged on the memory and we ordered, bhel, Sev Puri and samosa ragda. Very good, the chutney tastes the same as before. A clear nostalgia hit.
Now need to visit and try out the chaat with couple of beers.
One of the best places you will ever eat Chaat items at. Simply amazing taste. Sheer variety of different chaat items and the quality will make you come here again and again. The staff is very polite and warm. They also customize your chaat item as per your taste. The service to us was quick despite the restaurant being nearly full at the time we ordered. Thoroughly enjoyed all food items. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
nice place . location wise also good. liquor with only veg food. have drink with famous bhel and panipuri.this is the only 1 hotel which serves you lots of starter free with drinks.
Very nice service and quality of food.
I have eaten here from my childhood. This restaurant has never disappointed.
Their sev puri is a must have. If you ever come town side.

Decent place to have an affordable meal. The place is clean enough and the ambiance is okish. Nothing to complain about as such, and yes, the soap at the wash-basin smells awesome.
Vittals was often the first introduction to Chat for many Bombayites.
Chat itself varies from region to region. The best chat in India is available in just five cities - Bombay, Delhi, Lucknow, Indore and Varanasi!
Vittal does a fairly good job. They have a small but neat and clean ambience.
The food is great. You must try the Sev Puri, Bhel Puri, Pani Puri and Ragda Chats. The Dahi Puri is pretty decent.
This restaurant is nowhere close to the best in Bombay and there's much negligence from the restaurant management in terms of service and food standards.
A big chaat meal for two with Coke would cost you 500 bucks.
Highly recommended!

To visit a restaurant to eat chaat is not something very common among mumbaikars. Vitthal bhel which has history of about 100 years or more has been passed on through generation to generation.
Started as a small thela , vitthal bhel is amongst the favourties chaat place in mumbai.
The owners went big by shifting to a place .
Situated at narrow lanes of mumbai , near to famous sterling theatre , vitthal bhel has created its own goodwill.
It has even got licenses to have bar which is in the 1st floor of the building.
The restaurant has added few other notable items to its already chat counter, which tastes good as well.
In the bhel section one can try any item as all are good (except pani puri)
You get to make ur own paani puri, but i dint think it was worth it.
You get chutyney , shev and onion chopped and bhel in different plates and bowls.
One can add the chutney as per their requirement.
Also worth trying is the samosa and masala pav which tastes good.
Pricing is on the higher side as compared to thelas.
One may have to shell out around rs 150-200 per person on an average.
The service is good and the ambience is decent
I've tried the Bhel here and it was super delicious. Also, tried their Veg. Cheese Pizza and it was awesome too. Would surely visit again if I am in the area.
With a heritage right from 1875, this place boasts of the best Golden bhel in Mumbai. Golden Bhel has the speciality of having soaked murmure. Topped with raw mangoes, sev and an assortment of chutneys like the Pudina and Imli, the bhel stands distinguished from its peers. It tastes different as it seems to have soaked all the flavours in.
Vithal stands amongst a string of vintage, popular restaurants in South Mumbai right in front of CST. It takes you back in time with its ambience that feels like a 50s movie.

Vithal's Bhelpuri House is a legendary eatery located in the bylanes near CST station.
Exactly Opp New Excelsior theatre..!
Holds the Title of King of Bhelpuri in Mumbai-2015 awarded by Bombay Times.
They serve delicious chaat & also different types of Sandwiches & Punjabi Maincourse.
On my visit, tasted the different Bhel's here including Spl Bhelpuri & Samosa Bhel both of them were yummy..!
Recommend this place for connoisseurs of Food.
A bit expensive as the Plate costed 120/- inclusive of taxes..
Costliest Bhel of my Life🤔
Just in the lane leading to new excelsior, this is a veg food joint. Its bit expensive. I ordered paneer anritsari and plain chapatti along with a masala papad ( roasted ). Paneer was soft , tender and well cooked. The gravy was spicy and tasty. The chapattis were soft. The best was the papad which was perfectly roasted.

A must try !!
Vithal Khadawal started his small bhelpuri stall after he was evicted from near the present day Azad Maidan in 1939 by the British government. Vithal used to hawk bhelpuri there, recalls his son Manhar Khadawal born around the same time his father was evicted. ( Courtesy Indian Express )
My dad used to tell me that Before this restaurant , Vithal Khandwala used to have a sell bhelpuri opp New empire .
I can easily Categorize this place under " Legendary " places in Mumbai .
be it Special Bhel / Golden Bhel / Sukha ( dry bhel ) its just YUM
The Chaat are amazing Chaana / Moong , Ragda Pattice
if you happen to be go there for the first time try the dishes under the Bhel and the Snacks section and give a bunk to the north Indian section , dont even look at it .
Samosa/Radga Bhel is yum and surprisingly they make some good Veg Cheese Grilled sandwiches .
a Must try are the Cocktail Punjabi samosa.
Great place to visit and a must try , these are and should be the places where one needs to explore .
Wow ... Any day anytime for this place ....
Lovely food, it's been an iconic eatery over years. A treat for vegetarian taste buds with a liking for home style authentic cuisine. Love the rice papad and the dal...oops forgot to get you that this place serves mouthwatering hot chapatis. Amazing Behl and sev Puri available for Behl lovers...
Been here many times many years ago whenever was in that area. Always it was good. Have made some memories here with friends. Good food, good service. Last I was here was a few years ago. Will revisit if around that area.
If you want awesome Bhel than follow me and i this this is the place where you can taste awesome bhel, there are many varieties of bhel i taste all of that but some are my fav. ragda bhel, Dahi Sev Potato Prui, these are the best of this place. also there are many other dishes they serve.

This place is very well-known as Vithal Bhelwala. Their Bhel used to be so sumptuous. They also serve other fare but the staple is Bhel. However, hygiene and cleanliness had left a lot to be desired. I am talking about 2007-08. And I stopped going there. Let's hope this aspect is now taken care of. Food was never a problem btw.
This place is probably the oldest amngst the many restaurants that are present here just a lane behind new excelsior cinema. The place is particularly famous for bhel and other chat items and all of them being nice . The place is again very known amongst the town crowd but its on a expensive side. The pav bhaji is also nice and i specially liked their masala pav. Overall food is good and a decent joint to look for having a quick light food
Vithal Khadawala started off in a small way in 1875, initially was a hawker selling bhelpuri under a tree opposite New Empire Theatre.
In 1939, the British government was in the process of discontinuing hawkers’ licenses, thus was evicted from his usual spot. He decided to start anew, and rented out a room for Rs 20/- near VT station from where he began the eventually famous Vithal Bhelwala.
Had a steady clientele of office goers, college goers, businessmen etc. It is well known internationally as well and frequented by foreigners as well as NRI’s. Earlier the British used to travel in trams drawn by horses, and used to go red in the cheeks on eating the chatpata bhel.
They have managed to retain the consistency of their offerings mainly due to the quality of the raw materials which are said to be still sourced from the same suppliers for almost a century.
A couple of years back the popular eatery downed shutters owing to a family dispute, and is now in the custody of the court receiver, Bombay High Court, but the Khadawals continued to keep the brand alive by opening another shop near the old one.
The founder’s son Manhar and his son Sunil continue to run Vithal Family Restaurant and Bar, next door to Vithal Bhelwala, the bar has been shifted to the first floor, to allow the ground floor to function as a family restaurant just like the original one.
Vithal’s Bombay Bhel, which is a big pack of bhelpuri and sevpuri, is sold across the Country, whilst a small pack of dried flavoured bhel is a hit among railway passengers.
Their must have dishes are Bhelpuri, Dahi Batata Puri, Ragda Pattice. Pani Puri is also good here though their prices are steep.
Though the new restaurant has several other options in Snacks and Meals, still prefer to stick to their Chaat since had it over time.
Do drop in to try out the famous chaat from this iconic eatery.
On my relative's suggestion, I happened to visit this small restaurant near Kitab mahal in CST. I heard from him that Vitthal's Bhel is quite famous, and is packed and sold all over India and even in some countries abroad!
I ordered for:
1. Dahi Bhel
2. Samosa Bhel
Each one costing Rs. 100. A little too much for a plate of Bhel, but provided the fact that the eatery is situated in CST and they also have AC's in the eatery, this price is fair enough!
Taste wise, it was really good! Loads of Kairi, Sev, Chivda. They also serve a 2 bowls of chutney and chaat masala just in case you need to adjust the taste of the bhel!
Service wise, they were quick and courteous!
Thumbs up!👍
Excellent food quality!!!
Famous for its Chaat, which is outstanding!!!
Vitthal's have handpicked Master Chefs in their kitchen, keeping all foodie customers satisfied...
As the saying goes the way to a person's heart is through his stomach ;))
Cheers!

The quintessential chat house with a legacy of almost 7 decades operating from the same outlet. Thats almost unheard of with the ever changing scenes of mumbai. This place serves chat with love and is almost an institution in itself.
NRIs over or just nursing a serious hygeine fixation? If you have money (seriously!) on your sude, then it's reason enough to indulge in authentic and slightly modified street food; without standing at the street stalls!
Vitthal's iconic offerings include humble chaats and bhels, pani puri and ragda pattice that I would state as its USP.
Although they have tried experimenting with North Indian mains that I'm yet to muster up the stomach for, I'd personally recommend you steer clear of it and stick to the safe bets!
Vithal has been famous for its variety of bhel they serve. I've been there several times in the past even before they got renovated. Sandwich & Pani-puri is also good.
A small alley like dimly lit air-conditioned eatery hardly looks like the quintessential chaat joint that Vitthal’s actually is. No doubt they are trying to position themselves as a vegetarian restaurant which also serves chaat, but for those who have been Mumbai-ites for long would know better.
There are alluring options such as pav baji’s; paneer rolls and Punjabi dishes but I predictably opted for the chaat.
The sev puri was a brilliant interplay of the pudina & the sweet chutneys but the sev they use are the thick shortish ones and not the wiry sev used by roadside joints (that let me down a bit). The ragda samosa was outstanding; about 6 mini samosas served with a flavoursome ragda (having a dal like consistency) and a different green chutney with chopped onion. The simple aloo filling in the samosa was yumm!
They have pre-packed bhels for takeaways.
Palak paneer, khichdi, pav bhaji, dahi puri, Pani puri, ice creams are the few items which is never a miss at this joint.
This joint is just opposite "kya miyaa " or should I say besides new excelsior theatre.
The food is good, service is quick. We mostly catch up for a quick lunch if we are around at this place.
My favourite dahi puri...this taste never lets me down.
Recommended to all veggies...
Rest tastes on this menu- be urself judge, u won't be disappointed...
Vithal's is a good place if u wanna try out sum street food in a hygienic place.
I have tried deir dahi puri, sev puri, pav bhaji n alot of variety of dishes, dey get a 10/10 it is well made n reasonable.
This is nostalgic . I remember of my childhood days .. Bhel puri was awesome . But the restrurant lost his sheen when they enter into lunch and dinner concept.
I first visited this place when I was 5 yrs old. At that time they used to give free dry bhel instead of sauf...
As a kid, my parents got me here mainly for 3 reasons: 1. in the vicinity; 2. Chowpatty was unhealthy and last but not the least; for its yummy Bhel! I have fond memories of parcels of Bhel bought from Vithal in those white paper boxes and we kids screaming in excitement! There was and is something special about the sweet chutney they make. Simply love it! Not just Bhel, I've had the usual Pani puris and the other varieties of Chaats too. . They have a variety of Bhels but the Basic Bhel remains the best.. Love the Dahi Batata puri and I recently tried the Moong Chat which was perfectly chatpata! It was here that I was introduced to the then novel chaats like American and Mexican Sev Puri (sadly, they are no longer there in this new Vithal!) ..How can I forget that complementary warm kurmura at the entrance, fistfuls of which we would take back home even after stuffing ourselves thoroughly!! I still do :)
I guess they closed down for a while and had their set of issues. But glad they're back (but reduced in size and not crowded as it used to be but who cares!) The Bhel continues to be great and for me Vithal shall always be my favourite Bhelwala!
One of the oldest vegetarian Restaurant at fort area it’s famous for there bhel. At ground floor they serve only food and 1st floor they serve food and liquor both restaurant was fully A/c. Food was quite good specially there bhel. Service was also good. They take last order by 10.30pm for food.

A trip to Mumbai after 4 years and can never be completed with a visit to Vithal Bhelwala.
Taste is same. Had a bigger place and is operating just adjacent from a smaller outlet. Taste is still same. No compromises on food quality. Nostalgic for regulars
I'd heard about vitthal s legendary bhel from my mom. The original bhel restaurant is shut but they serve bhel and chat in this one. I really liked the bhel...the chutneys were rich and flavourful and they added lots of kairi which i love. A side tray of chutneys was a nice touch . The chhaas i ordered was a let down to be honest...it tasted like some chemical concoction. But the bhel more than made up for it.
For those who don't know.. Bhel Puri was originally introduced by Vithal Family. Years back when the original churchgate was near flora fountain outside St Thomas Church (original church - as the name churchgate was derived from) few meters away there was this bhiku behram well just outside the gate. There the Vithal family blended the North indian chat, Maharashtrian badann and gujrati combination of red green n sour Chutneys n created BHEL... Back then the space was open, vast ground n sea view (which is now marine drive)... People used to just roam in open and the place was also called hawaai khana.. So BHEL was the huge hit for visitors there. Need to know information
Good place to have a beer with your dinner (upstairs), downstairs serves food but no alcohol. Tasty, good value vegetarian food and excellent service.
Nice place for veg options. The bar is on the first floor and offers options very easy on your wallet.
It feels like home .. Simple and traditional !!
The ground floor is for fun dining!! and Chat!! (the place we visited) very simple layout!!
Pricing is a little steep but a good trade off for a Colaba chat house.
Must Visit for all, who really want to unwind and understand why this still exists (since 1875).
Vithals is where you get great tasting snacks like Sevpuri, bhelpuri, pavbhaji to name a few. If you feel snacky, n wanna have the traditional dishes, this is the place to have it. Great service and convenient location. Next time you are in town, do not miss out on this place.
The atmosphere is pleasant and peaceful. A good place to have both meal as well as street snacks. The service is also good and yes I enjoyed my meal.
Its an old world charm. Hence seats are not comfortable for oversized people. Food is costly. But tasty too. Staff etc are very genial.
Old charm with tasty chats especially that bheal
Excellent food after long times i visit. in my school time same taste also today nice service
Bhel is Vithal speciality but now many items are good
Thanks 🌹
This outlet is well known for its Bhel & chat items.
Since 1875 this outlet is serving people the best Bhel & Chat item
It's pure veg restaurant & Bar
Staff is always helpful with smile on face
Very rare to see pure veg Bar & Restaurant
This outlet is very near to CSMT railway station.
The taste of chaat items are very good as shared by my kids. However considering the ambience, the rates are too high. The old charm of the place is no more.
