I am ordering from Thotrin Cafe since last 2 years this is my first review here though.
Thotrin Cafe is a place where you get good food at reasonable prices and the food is great! Generally you have to compramise when ordering from such resturants
They have many options but I only stick to their general menu like noodle and rice.
Today after 4 months of quarantine I hadd an urge to eat Chinese and thought of thotrin.
I had ordered Mangolian Pot rice and Pan fried noodles in Huan sauce, both were flavour full and with great portion size for 2 ppl.
They even provide vinegar or extra sause when I specially mentioned it, most resturants ignore special request.
I have been a loyal customer here since 2 years and will continue to order from here when I need Chinese food with good portion sizes, reasonable prices and good taste.
It's surely worth a try if you are thinking of ordering from here.
Thank you.
Good portions and taste, much less veg in gravy and no paneer. Ordered chinese gravy and rice.
Food was good, but they forgot the soup, Zomato took care of that.
by far best chinese delivery i have had. Awesome food, just loved it :)
Good food, great taste, value for money
Thotrin Café is a hidden gem located in Kalina. It specializes in serving food of the Seven Sisters (Seven North Eastern States of India). I discovered this restaurant on Zomato while browsing and was very much convinced to order because they served North Eastern Cuisine and because they had amazing reviews. For a person like me who eats out approximately 225 days in a year, it is very rare that a restaurant scores 100% in each rating category. I usually compare, analyze the smallest details and then rate each dish and each restaurant I try. Thotrin Café has scored 100% in every single element in my rating. The food absolutely blew my mind, I was in a food coma and my soul was satisfied to the highest levels.

Zomato Gold Delivery: Yes (Manipuri Style Fish Gravy was the free dish)
The first dish I ordered was Escargo (Landsnail) with Hoksa (Pork) as I am an adventurous eater. The gravy was spicy to the perfect level, the pork was so tender and well cooked and escargo were a lot in quantity. I first removed the meat from all the Escargo and then ate this dish with homecooked rice. Believe me, this gravy and rice is a match made in heaven. The entire combination absolutely made me fall in love with the dish. I absolutely bow down to such level of cooking. This was one of the most amazing lunches of my life. Coming to the second dish, Manipuri Style Fish Gravy which I had saved for dinner and after getting blown out by the first dish, I stayed positive but expected less from the second dish. So I decided to eat this second dish also with home cooked rice and I was blown by the taste one more time. The fish was a lot in quantity, the gravy was an absolute mix of spices and various other elements. I actually loved Fish Curry more than Escargo & Hoksa dish. Thotrin Café has earned me as a customer for a lifetime after making my entire day so amazing with two amazing meals. I cannot find one point where they went wrong. Do not think twice before ordering from here and please order North Eastern Cuisine from here.

Taste good, good quantity tq
Super tiny little place in Santacruz which is very easy to miss. Only people who consciously seek it, shall find it! Definitely worth a visit for anyone looking to try some authentic North-Eastern Style dishes. The dishes are hearty & soul-warming - simple but flavorful, made using spices & aromatics local to the North East which impart some very unique & interesting taste to the dishes!
We tried the Stir fried Veggies & Black Pepper chicken fry to start with. Both were delicious & different from the typical Indian Chinese we get at other places! For main course we went with -
Manipuri style fish curry: I wish I could tell the exact ingredients that went into making it so tasty but suffice to say that it was extremely delicious! The curry was of beautiful consistency, color & taste! We also tried the Hoksa with bamboo shoots- another ripper of a dish with the predominant unique flavor & aroma of bamboo shoots shining through!
Both the dishes looked more spicy than they actually were. Recommend eating these dishes with plain steamed rice to truly enjoy the flavors of the curries & meat.
All in all, great place for tasty, unique & pocket friendly food!
This place left me amazed. A small cozy joint inside kalina, limited seating but great great service. Good music, happy faces, DELICIOUS FOOD.
The hot and sour soup is Hands down the best I’ve ever had.
The chicken teriyaki noodles are to die for!!!
Absolutely love this place and will keep visiting.
Superb Quantity in just only Rs. 96
A place so beautiful. People so wonderful. Culture so rich. Food so delicious and exotic.
The land of seven sisters. Welcome to northeast cuisine.
Welcome to Thotrin Cafe.
So excited to have lunch here.
On the table
1. Pork Momo
Super delicious pork minced parcelled inside the Momos. A unique spicy and yummy dry chutney alongside adds a oomph to the Momos.
2. Hoksa bamboo curry.
Succulent pork meat with tender bamboo shoots. Lip smacking flavours in the curry.
3. Siesa potatoes
Exotic Naga food. Snails and potatoes with green herbs. You'll love these if you love clams and mussels.
4. Sticky rice
A very unique preparation of rice. Goes very well with the seisa potatoes and the hoksa Bamboo curries.

The seven states of the north east are connected to India via a thin stretch of land officially known as Siliguri corridor and popularly as "chicken's neck"

A really splendid time here and amazing food for a great price.
It's a fantastic place to have Northeast food of India. And they also play good music. Must visit :)
i had sticky rice with seisa and mushroom, dry beef fry which wasn't listed in the menu. The food was tasty but was pungent although they had reduced it considerably. Had to sweat it out to finish my portion and to wash it all down i had kaffirlime cucumber. Was a great 1st time experience of tasting Northeast food.
Ordered the Thai pot noodles and it was delicious. Veggies to noodles ratio was perfect. There were enough exotic veggies (Mushroom, bell peppers, zucchini, baby corns) and flavours were on point. The only degrade was the big chunks of ginger and huge green chillies which were like impossible to eat. Overall it was great experience and will surely order again.
I absolutely love their food. Be it hoksa or pot rice or Momo's.. everything is made with love and the quantity and quality is amazing.. love love love it
I have ordered my lunch from here...I ordered Thai pot rice & teriyaki noodles ...good portion for 3-4 people...very good quantity they are giving..nice & moist tasty good it was..it's absolutely brilliant for someone who loves north eastern cuisines..if u love Chinese food this is the perfect place to come & explore...
It happened finally . Sometimes love comes in a small tiny packages yet everlasting. Thotrin cafe was somewhat like that. Small, cramped space , but , somehow the food takes over all your thought . May be the AC is not powerful but food is as strong as it should be . Noodle /rice gravy bowls are too die for and specially try their seafood stuffs which are equally passionate to their people who are working there . Really enjoyed the food .
The pork bambooshoot with sticky rice was awesome. The lady at the counter was very helpful and assisted us with our choices. All is all..a great experience
My 2nd home, heart to mind everything like an family, good place to have family dine and frnds get togedr, calm place for work on laptop, its awesome place for organic food also❤😘❤😍
This place has one of the best chicken momos I've had here in Mumbai. The clincher is actually their sauce! I have only ordered in given it's quite a small joint, the food is definitely a must try! Try their north eastern chicken gravy and rice if you want to play safe for the first time, it's really good!
We had planned to visit this place for a long time. We ordered the Chicken Thupa soup. It was nice and had noodles, chicken and greens in it. We tried the Chicken Momo's they were good and a special shout out for the sauce that comes with it. We ordered the spicy guava which was very good. The surprise was the Thotrin juice which was tangy and tasted like tody. For main course we ordered the Steam Chicken with Bamboo Shoot and rice. The chicken was not that great and maybe next time ill go for the pork. Regina Fernandes D’Souza
A quaint little place tucked away in Kalina, Santa Cruz East which dishes out the delicacies of North East India, hitherto unknown in this part. I had ordered a Chicken Thupa Soup at the table and packed Hoksa with Bamboo shoots and Seisa with Yam. Felt good to taste the authentic dishes after a very long period of time. Will definitely try to visit again.
Loved their Chicken lollypop Schezwaan. One should really order 2 plate as u will not be satisfied with one plate. They also serves good chicken tandoori. Perfect
I've order black beans noodles ,and steam chiken with rice which is very nice smell and tasty,I recommend u guys to visit this tiny cute restaurant....
When you donot plan anything and look for something which can suffice your hunger and give you yummilicious feeling. This is the place. Placed at by-lanes of santacruz and little hard to figure pint the exact location. Maps though works well to locate it.
This time it was just me. I ordered little extra and my first question was, will you pack it if I am unable to eat everything. From the very first bite, I could not resist the taste. The pork gravy was more than perfect. It was right blend of spices and not watery at all. Rices goes perfectly well with it.
Now the momos, oho those were properly minced and filled. The outer cover was well steamed. Absolutely delicious
The cafe was small with 3 tables. Cafe was little smelly too. Also rice was really costly. Overall it was delicious experience. I would suggest pack your likeness and eat at home. A Must try.
Have ordered food from here to dine at home.
This restaurant doesn’t have a food delivery service unfortunately as it would definitely rake up the orders. Home delivery is available from the Zomato app though (if a delivery guy is available).
This ended up making me wait to place my order for atleast 30-40minutes. But once the order was placed (via Zomato) and accepted by the restaurant, it was delivered to me surprisingly quickly.
Order -
Thai pot rice - chicken (good portion for two). Nice and moist and tasty. Could have been more veggies (broccoli and mushroom) but this is not a complaint as the food is tasty aforementioned.
Manchow soup - came with the crispy garnish. A tad spicy for my taste. (So ended up skipping this altogether).
Please note that its not a paid review
First of all 5 stars to all the dishes that i ordered through zomato. Really surprised with both taste and the price.
The authentic tastes of starter paneer broccoli mushroom, main course stir fy veggies and crispy rice is mind blowing , authentic, non resistive , and much more. Sorry lacking the good words vocabulary
Great job
Everyone must try , its my sincere request
Thanks team thotrin to make me happy and at peace. You have the Zen of food
It’s absolutely brilliant for someone who loves North Eastern cuisine or if you haven’t tried that yet, and if you love Chinese food this is the perfect place to come and explore India’s rich cuisine. The Thupka was beautiful and pork momos were great. Can’t wait to visit again.
Best place for north east food in Mumbai. The restaurant's ambience is not that good, but the food is super delicious and worth of trying. Staffs are really polite and helpful. Not recommended for vegetarians. The place is little difficult to reach but you can take cab from other locations in Mumbai for avoiding confusion.
authentic north east food. The taste of momos and the sauce- wow its awesome. Nice aroma of spices.. little difficult to reach but you will have a great time with authentic north east food.
I love their dishes. But it's high time they change their rubbery rice. A good quality basmati rice for fried rice and pot rice would taste much better.
This hole in the wall restaurant serves the best pork/chicken with bamboo shoot in Mumbai. Their momos are also among the better ones. If you want to savour good Naga food, this place is highly recommended.
A nondescript, hidden gem that is really impossible to fathom from the streets. For a joint that literally has 4 tables and a resting place for the crew on the top floor, you'd be in for a massively pleasant surprise once the food comes in. For really authentic North Eastern cuisine, there is no better place. While the smell of cooked bamboo may be a little too exotic in the beginning, you'll find yourself digging into their dishes as soon as they arrive on the table! Highly recommended for a most wonderful feast: especially for non-vegetarians and momo lovers! And a feast of a meal with 3 dishes (2 starters and 1 main course) cost us all of INR600!
Food recommended:
pork with bamboo shoots (hoksa) , pork momos, sticky rice kaffir lime water with cucumber and salad
Drinks recommended:
Spicy guava juice
Ambience/décor: 8/10
Service: 10/10
Quality of food/drinks: 10/10
VFM: 10/10
Thotrin..a small cafe in the lanes of santacruz.. but like they dont go by the size ..it aptly applies to this place as well.. the view from outside would be of a small cafe with hardly 4 tables but the food u order is something which will matter to u than all other factors.. we had enough read about this place in multiple places and it was high time we actually had them..
Excited about food ; we ordered shinju which is basically north eastern salad type followed by chicken and pork momos which were really awesome followed by steamed chicken with bamboo shoot which was another iconic dish from their menu and drinks like spicy guava which is basically guava jucie with chilli powder and thotrin juice which is a sort of rice beer . worth the try i would say..
Overall amazing food .. worth the try for all food lovers.. my rating would be 4.5 :)
Need a Travel Buddy from Andheri East to this Cafe. I'm New to Mumbai and would love to try the pork in Thortin cafe. Anyone Available .... drop a message
One of the best place to have oriental dishes. The servings are good enough, so it is very pocket friendly. The space is not big, therefore, if you are visiting the place in the peak lunch/dinner hour, you rae advised to arrive earlier than your planned timing.
Good food; we ordered pork momos, hoksa with bamboo shoots, and chicken Thai pot rice. All the 3 dishes were tasty. The only minus point of this place is that they do not have home delivery. But their service made up for it. When I called to place the order, the lady promised that she would call me as soon as the order was ready so that I could go and pick it up. And true to her word, she called me earlier than I had expected. Hope they will start home delivery soon. Definitely a try-again place.
Please deliver at IIT Powai :'(. Please!!!My friends here crave for Home food. But cannot travel so far everytime. You have built quite a base. Please make delivery services operational atleast at Powai or maybe Hiranandani.
Ordered a veg stir fry from here for a evening snack craving. It was veggies were fresh, tasty and lip smacking. They followed my instructions on the cooking requested.
My search for authentic Northeastern food in Mumbai ends here. The well cooked soft pork, the tantalising aroma of bamboo shoot coupled with the good old iromba. It will be unfair to not mention that this is essentially Manipuri food and the restaurant is run by people of the Thankul Tribe of Manipur. It is a humble restaurant that is less of a cafe but more of a restaurant. My taste buds were on an adventure of nostalgia (If I may say that). It is a place you should not ignore. If you love pork make sure you order the Hoksa(pork) dishes and eat it with the plain rice. It's to die for. Just make sure you ask them to tone down on the chillies. Thank God this place exists.
The only and best place to eat out north east cuisine in Mumbai. The place is small, but its alright if you really want to try out north east food.
Waiting for the food takes longer time compared to other places.
Giving five stars as the staff were friendly and we can even ask to prepare our own menu if they have the items😍
Excellent food.
If you want to try out authentic North eastern food or craving some momos and thukpa.
It is a small, quiant and tidy place. Perfect for a group of four.
Amazing food experience and delicious cuisines of North East but the space is little tight. I hope they could improve the space, as it needs to be little bigger than the space they have it now. So that more people could join. Other wise I love the food they serve especially the fresh steamed momos.
I had ordered one crispy chicken and one chicken momos.
Firstly I thought that it would be fried momos. But they were steamed. But the taste of the momos made up. The packing was good. Delivery time was fast. Crispy chicken was okaish. The soya base in it was a little more. So tasted a bit bitter. Nd there was no shehzwan sauce or anything like that for the momos.
A restaurant serving North-eastern food? Wow! That’s a first for Bombay.
So when I saw a new restaurant in the blocks, I immediately ordered from it.
Momos: The momos were as authentic as they come. Stuffed with chicken and encased in a thin layer of maida.
Hakka noodles: A huge bowl of Hakka noodles with lots of chicken along with stir fried vegetables.
Hoksa cooked in bamboo shoots: large chunks of pork cooked in a special curry. I just wished there was more pork and less lard in it. But the taste was awesome.
The best part about Thotrin? It's very, very affordable prices.
Pork with bamboo shoots , pork momos , sticky rice kaffir lime water with cucumber and beef salad . For an authentic north east experience I. Mumbai
Yes here u get what is called as Momo, the best so far I had in Mumbai. The fish gravy Manipur style is a must have, fresh water fish is available. Those who are not used to food with very less spices and minimal salt in it, may not like the steamed chicken dishes. The place is a bit claustrophobic but if u want to try north Eastern food, this is the place.
Unlike mentioned in the zomato portal, THEY DO ACCEPT CARD PAYMENT.
The Cafe is practically like a hole in a wall with 3 tables below and a mezzanine floor. The hostess explained that "Thotrin" didn't have an exact translation but was related to youth, spring, and good things.
I advise you to skip the pages of the menu and go directly to the last one. This has a lot of North Eastern dishes.
We started off with Pork Momos. I love dumplings and usually we take our time to savoir it - but this time all 4 of us just gulped it down. The cover is smooth and thin and doesn't feel different component. The black chutney added that zing.
For mains we ordered "Smoked Hoksa with Naga Dal" - Smoked beef in lentil preparation. I was expecting an a veg Dal as it is in most of the cases. And boom! The Dal and rice certainly felt more comforting.
Next was "Smoked Seisa with Yam/Arbi Roots" - Bref on creamy white Arbi curry. At first you might find it bland but eat a bite of creamy Arbi, beef, and rice - it is like a warm hug. The beef can be chewy but one overcomes that. I added the black chutney and it added a bit of heat.
"Hoksa Chilly Fry" - Pork with chilly, onions, and soy. A good sign of meat is when you cut through without much resistance. This dish is recommended in bulk A glass of beer would have been nice. Asking much? Haha.
"Hoksa with Escargot" - A spicey curry with small snails. I couldn't eat those but finally gave in to taste the pork and the curry. I am not that adventurous eater yet!
The only thing which we didn't like was "Parkai" - I was expecting big green beans instead the whole bean was cut and cooked. It was a bit bitter. The Hostess told us if we want to eat just beans April is the good time.
North Eastern food is low of spices and can be high on chillies. The flavor and ingredient combination is so different than what we eat - try it out once.
#ThotrinCafe
I was quite curious to know the meaning of Thotrin and then the lady at the restaurant informed me that there is no English equivalent word for it. In Manipuri it was something to do with the new generation, youth and the future. Had heard about Thotrin from our friends extensively and today was the day when the ‘future’ was about to become the ‘present’.
Meenal had already reached while we were still searching for a parking place and Kalina is one place I thought where the tradition is all about not adhering to traffic signals.
The restaurant is a small affair - I would think about 20-24 covers that included the ground floor and mezzanine. People suffering from vertigo should leave the thought of climbing up to be in the mezzanine.
We came here for North Eastern Food but the term itself is a bit disconcerting for me since there are seven states there and complexity of food could be quite different depending upon the locale. You could read that up elsewhere.
Our first order was the #Pork #Momos. They make a mean Momo. The skin soft, perfectly steamed and as one bites in, the flavourful minced Pork positively concurs the senses.
The Chilly Pork was the typical preparation using Bell Pepper, Onions and Soy. They had used #PorkBelly - the meat was soft and the fat, silky. I liked it.
A bit of adventure in between with something called Parkai - a stand alone salad dish made of this bean cousin was a disaster.
The disappointment with that salad was rather temporary since the main courses had arrived. We had ordered three dishes.
The Naga #Dal with Pork, a Smoked Beef with #TaroRoot and lastly a Pork Curry with Land #Snails. We asked for a plate of sticky rice and that we had to repeat. I would explain the reason in the next paragraph !!
The smoked beef in the white curry was a bit chewy but we were forewarned about that fact. The first morsel brought about a bit of a smirk on our faces but I gathered that the taste just grew on us. The Naga Dal was very well made thought. It was light, very low on spices but brilliantly done.
For me, the snails and pork curry was the winner because of one simple reason. The curry was exquisite and with that rice it just felt like home cooked food and was almost akin to meat curry that I make at home. The pork pieces were soft and the fat was just a delight to bite into. I had to use my hands to deal with the snails. The snail meat was a perfect complement though I wished they were a tad larger in size. Meenal, however would not have any of those small beings but that’s all right.
I have promised a repeat visit to some of my friends and would look forward to it. If you have the inclination, they have the time but in the evening do reach by 8 Pm to grab a table.
Amazing Restaurant! Really good food! Something different from what we have daily! Loved it! Thupka soup, Moon Fan Rice and Smoked beef and potatoes were awesome! The place is a little cramped up, but food is awfully tasty! Must try! Definitely will be back for more!! ♥️
Mind blowing authentic North Eastern food, sticking mostly to Mizo & Manipuri cuisine. If you can deal with the small size of the place, this place will delight you on all aspects from the delicacies to the service, everything is on point. Also, I believe it's the only place in Bombay serving NE cuisine, that also makes it unique.
Got to know about this place from a photo in one of those food blogs on Instagram and the review tempted me to travel all the way to kalina to try this place . And oh buoy , I'm so glad I did . Located in the streets of kalina , the place is slightly difficult to locate but maps ftw. A section of the menu has authentic north eastern cuisines from chilly pork to escargots to thupa to what not . Tried their pork momos, chilly guava juice and chicken with bamboo shoot along with sticky rice and I have been a regular since then.
Highly highly recommended if you are a fan of experimenting new flavors and good value for money food and do not care much about a fancy ambience.
Thotrin is the ideal destination for authentic mix of Naga and Manipuri cuisines ( North-Eastern delicacies) in Mumbai. Like how Columbus discovered America, I discovered this place and have been a regular visitor once or twice a week since it's discovery. I travel all the way from Lokhandwala to this place just because of the feel good factor after an amazing experience of flavors that touches the soul. They also have a wide variety of Chinese delicacies and is also loved by people. But the authentic North-Eastern cuisine is something to go for, all food lovers. The food is mouth watering. This pic has thotrin special sticky rice, eromba, steamed chicken with bamboo shoot. Momo's are also must try and people who love pork, Smoked/Fresh Pork with allu, pork chilly fry etc are apt choices
I’ve never tasted better momos!
The Chicken momos and Pork momos are juicy and delicious.
The Beef salad, made extra spicy is another item which everyone must try at least once!
Clean ambience and homely environment.
I’ll definitely be going there again.
I had ordered the chicken thupka from here, it was very flavourful with loads of vegetables, chicken and noodles. The quantity was also very good.
Really good food around the corner in Kalina. Small place with delicious food.
Ordered Spicy Crab Meat Soup - creamy soup with crab meat and egg whites and diced spicy chilly. It's really very at the end.
Crispy Chicken Rice - crispy chicken in a rice avatar. Doesn't contain much gravy to finish off with but it's good if you not a much of a gravy lover. Thou this is found on the Rice with gravy section doesn't do justice to its section.
Mongolian Pot Rice (chicken) - Mongolian chicken with veggies , broccoli and plenty of mushrooms. One could serve 2 very easily with rice and gravy.
Overall the place is cozy so no group plans. Good for a casual meal with Max 4 people. They also have some tradional North East offerings to try out.
Definitely definitely a hidden gem in the bylanes of kalina! If you are a person who doesn't care about the ambience and need good food you should for sure visit this place! It's a nice clean maintained cafe with seatings down and upstairs!
They serve such good food , they are very famous for their north eastern cuisine and hence we were very excited to try the thupa soup here as it's something which is very well known for! And let me tell you it was so so good , will definitely visit again for it! And we also had the Mongolian pot rice , which was great in flavours, my friend tried out the chicken manchow soup and some lollipops to go with it! The quality they serve is great and for what the food is priced at is very reasonable for the quantity! We were just disappointed with the service, as the food was arriving a bit late than expected! Else it's a hands down a must visit place!
I would like to recommend that anyone from the Northeast go and eat there; you'll feel homely. Must try pork with bamboo, Shinju ,dry meat salad
You can have the best Beef & Pork here. We ate today. What a taste, what a service. Lots of love💟💟
This is a hidden gem of a restaurant in Kalina. It has some of the best authentic north eastern food! The food is really delicious and well worth its price. Though the restaurant is really small and going to the first floor is task due to their tiny staircase, the food is worth it. We tried the clear chicken soup which was delicious and the pork and chicken momos which is just amazing. The brown sauce/ chutney they serve it with is so unique and tasty! Absolutely worth visiting.
I recently stayed at thotrin cafe , and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The staff was friendly, the room was clean, and the location was convenient. While the amenities were basic, the value for the price was reasonable. I would consider staying there again for a straightforward and comfortable stay.

It was very nice experience having food at this restaurant. The service was very quick and hastle free. The looks inside the restaurant was also good for taking selfies or family photographs. You will surely enjoy eating here at this restaurant.
One of my favourite so far in all over Mumbai 😍🤤🤤
Quite a small place with great North eastern food not easily found. Pretty light on the pocket.
The place itself is a bit hole-in-the-wall. Has place for around 15-16 people to sit with a steep staircase to the first floor. It is very clean and maintained though.
Will highly recommend this place for the food.
It's a warm and cozy cafe with the genuine ambience of North East. Do visit if you looking for authentic food from the Seven Sisters. The staff is polite and the place is hygienic. Must visit for an experience like no other.
Nice place to have Chinese cuisine. Located in kalina village. Very small but get good food thay also serve North India food. Not so costly. Nice tasty food. Friendly staff. Five star from my side. Location is little bit inside.
