The taste is really amazing and is good to eat as it is hygienic though it is only good if you're looking for street or desi food and taste.
The hidden gem outside Bandra west Station. The amibence is fine but the taste of food served here is uncomparable. The sarso ka saag and makke ki roti is the best thing i ever had.The kali daal here is my favourite one to be tried with crisp laccha paratha.
Love the earthy taste of the food...love their punjabi thali and liver masala
Hardly 2 minutes of a walk from the bandra railway station (w) , this is a small place that has the "cooked in authentic coal" written at the entry. The taste is indeed very authentic and the food and it's roti will give you feels of eating at a dhabba in Punjab. Worth a visit. The whole setup is simple and so is their food, no added flavouring et al for enhancement
National resturant is the one of the best dining restaurant . The quality of food is good and price is to affordable

Pocket friendly, excellent service and yummy food
Loved the food . Ordered aloo paratha, tomato rice ,aloo matar and tandoori and makka roti .
Great food in the middle of chaos. :D
Super cheap and good dhabha food.
One of the oldest and most sort after restaurants of Bandra. Loved by Celebrities like Dilip Saab to Khanna Saab, National is one of the finest restaurants offering North Indian food. Punjabi kadhi pakoda, rajma, dal fry are some of the must try. Simplicity and being economical makes it preferred choice for many.
Had ordered from this very old restaurant located in bandra west. The place is famous for its quality and the pricing which is very reasonable. They have seating available which is always full. Typical Punjabi food cooked on coal.
I tried
Aloo paratha - came piping hot. Parathas were of wheat and not flour. Stuffing was perfectly balanced with onions potatoes coriander some salt and chat masala. Tasted delicious. It was accompanied with curds ( a bit sour)
Dal makhani - unlike the Dal served with cream and butter, this was just dal with some butter and it had a really good smokey flavour. My favourite.
Great food and fairly priced. So if you are craving for some dhaba food and do not wish to spend more, this is the place for u to go.

ISSE SASTA AUR TIKAAU AUR KAHAAN.... Yes. One of the most affordable place in Mumbai to have North Indian Home Style Dhaba like cuisine.
After a short snacky time @teavillacafe we headed on to National Restaurant in Bandra, Mumbai.

Paneer masala 120

25 years back when I was in college, I use to go many times here with friends, the old uncle on the cash counter, sardarji uncle was really God's man, he used to serve very good food at really very cheap rates,
No doubt today also compare to other places rates are really cheap, food very very good, limited items, Punjabi dhaba menu, but I will say you will be feeling it really good taste and home like food,
Try there combination items of two veg sabjis , with butter fry, Rajma lovers please try ( Rajma+ Palak add butter fry) , with rice or roti, or as your wish Nan, makai roti or else , it's really really awesome,
Amazing simple homely food. Easy on the stomach and wallet. Love their chicken moghlai, chicken kaleji masala, egg bhurji and kadi pakoda
u can mix ur veggies with rajma, sukhi dal.
If you like simple punjabi food that is value for money head to National. They have very unique dishes here for eg. u can have a Rajma Kaali dal mix or a Rajma Gobi mix among many. I loved the Rajma Gobi mix and also the Rajma pulao.. You can have a good hearty meal here that is not heavy on your stomach or your pocket !! When u don’t feel like cooking and still crave home style food that is light .. this is the place !
The Best Punjabi Restaurant in Mumbai. Thank You Zomato for adding it here. Food is cooked on coal fire. Super tasty. Worth visiting. Glad it is here
Visited National for the first time yesterday. Had Rajma fry, dal fry, paneer bhurjee, day fly khichadi, tandoori roti with butter and papad. Loved the food, it was simple yet tasty, not very oily, hot and fresh food and service is quick. Prices are reasonable and portion size is not too big but worth the price charged. Will surely go back someday soon for trying more on the menu. Surely recommend this place if u looking for simple homestyle Punjabi food at pocket friendly rates
I have given a 5 star on the basis of the fact that I have been food here since the time I was in college. Then it was a place where one goes for a quick cheap meal post a cheap drinking binge. Now I go there I am bored with all the frills and fancy restaurant’s with fancy names for age old dishes. I go there for that pure and honest food that they serve. They don’t claim to be the best in the city with a celebrity chef but yes they feed you food that is wholesome and nice like ghar ka khaana. Now even me or my mom or wife once in a while add less salt or mor mirchi but then hey we are humans and that how I treat this place. In fact my up in the air 12 year old loves this little place.
So all I can say is thank you!
Lovely place. Everything cooked on charcoal gives it a beautiful smokey taste to the food. I loved the Chicken Masala and the roties were amazing. Also tried the Pulao rice and it was average. But the rates a pretty cheap and worth it.
Speaking of cheap places this is one that you must visit. Keep it clean tidy and do it might not have the best looking interiors you will definitely find it pleasant.
The food is charcoal cooked and delicious. Many restaurants in Bandra that cook on charcoal charge a bomb but the prices at National are very reasonable
It yummy food Reminds me of a Dhaba in Punjab Pathankot. Most importantly the staff is very pleasant and even if you are a group of girls you will have a good time. Don't forget to try the makki di roti Sarson Ka Saag and chana Palak.
This place is so old my dad said he is to visit it with his school friends. Glad to know this place is still around. Well done.
Gem of a restaurant with Dhaba feel at its heart near Bandra station. Rajma is the quintessential ingredient here. You have so many combinations with Rajma to enjoy as per your choice. Palak rajma with Makai di roti was awesome. You also get awesome Chicken dishes here. Pakora curry is just perfect. The best place in Mumbai for Rajma lovers. No frills only thrills hangout. Highly recommended.
This place is like dhaba, When you enter into the restaurant immediately you feel that ambiance is not that fancy. But place is value for money and pocket friendly.
Food taste is awesome and feels like you are having meal at home.
They specifically cook food on chulla, which adds extra flavour to the food.
What is surprising about this place is there food rates i.e. very less that too in bandra..
Service is awesome.
Though place is small and not that attractive still it is hygienic.
Must go place in bandra and nearby to the bandra station.
This is best Punjabi restaurant with affordable cost. Please make sure you visit this restaurant when you are in Bandra. I used to visit this restaurant in 2004 when our office Was there ,later office shifted. Now I went there in 2018.Taste is same. Highly recommended.
This place is a Hidden Gem Restaurant situated near to Bandra Talao, it's been a favourite eating spot for people who are visiting here for ages, National Restaurant is a no frills restaurant, it's just about good quality food which is very pocket friendly & served in a most simplistic manner. All their food is cooked in Charcoal Chulla which is highlighted in their Signboard of their restaurant. They serve both veg & non veg food at their restaurant & their menu is highlighted in ChalkBoard so you can see the Day to Day Specials. It's must must visit for foodies who love Simple Dhaba Style meals.
This place serves some lipsmacking Moghlai cuisine at very low price.
Good for a quick lunch.
The food quality is fantastic and very tasty. Almost like home made food. You have Veg and Non Veg both options here. Some dishes are cooked in charcoal. Must try their rajma paratha.
Very delicious and home like. Its been years and this place still doesn't disappoint me
Value for money with good tasty food is the right definition of this place.
Nothing fancy , just a simple restaurant outside Bandra West which serves food which is tasty and hot.
Service is very quick.
I had gone there for a quick lunch, ordered tandoor roti ( made of atta ) they don't use maida at all which is great and a lovely Rajma Palak combo.
Pricing is really really pocket friendly, suits pockets for everyone.
Overall I loved my quick lunch , about 25 minutes I was out.

Wood fire or charcoal fired ONLY food here is something special in a way.
Almost next to Bandra station, you can walk in for a healthy and heavy lunch/dinner and always see a responsible soul at the counter managing the place.
Most Food available here is interestingly in combination with rajma. Please correct me if im wrong.
Chicken and mutton options will give you a good choice over all and fresh out of the fire rotis will certainly give you a good overall experience. No matter even if you are going with your female friends/family and this place is good to go!
One of the best no nonsense restaurant in Bombay. It has no branches. They don't use gas but instead use coal to cook. Proper Punjabi food. Plus you can order in half plates. I ordered for a chicken moghlai, chicken masala, paneer bhurjee, 3 laccha paratha, 3 tandoori roti, 2 chaas. The bill was Rs.411/- only. No greasy food. Simple and best.
It's not the hip and happening place if you're with your family or anyone special. But if you're with your chilling buddies this place is the best for your pocket... You eat like Kings and don't burn ur pocket... Fresh slow cooked food on coal.. cheap yet excellent quality... The crowd is a daily worker but the food they serve can put a mediocre cafe or restaurant to shame. A wide variety of veg and non veg items on the menu that will surely make your mouth water... Overall a great experience Everytime I go there... Oh and ever craving sarso da saag and makki di roti, they are your life savers..
Super awesome chicken masala fry and rajma sukhi dal fry just love it, d makke di roti with butter is too good, the best part is all food is cooked in coal so it just yummy
I've been eating here for the last 6 years. Tried almost everything on the menu and finally settled on these items, highly recommend them - Rajma, Rajma+Kaali daal mix, Paneer Bhurji, Jeera Tomato Fry Rice, Makke Corn Roti, Tandoori Roti. For the dishes, you must mention "tomato fry", and you can tell them "tomato fry with butter" as well, if you don't then you'll get a bland version. The rotis are served with a cube of butter on it, you can refuse, but who in their normal mind does that? Don't waste your time on the chicken, you have other places for that - here the vegetarian stuff is their speciality. All their food is cooked on coal, it's given their food a smoky addictive flavour. My only regret is that I eat lunch here during office hours and go back to work with major food coma and drowsiness. The food is super cheap, which has me and my buddies over eating. The dishes I mentioned above, cost literally ₹220-₹250 in total and feeds two people. Love this place!
A gem near the Bandra Station, this place is something which my friend suggested me and we visited this place on a weekday.
This place is quite close to Bandra Station and the food here is the typical Dhaba style great North Indian food.
USP of this place is all things here are cooked on Coal and we all know how great that food tastes.
And you have Half & Full ka option on top of it - Sone pe Suhaaga as one may call.
We tried here :
** Paneer Bhurji was tasty not spicy to worry you the next day; Half was good for me.
** Laccha Paratha again was nice.
** Makke Di Roti - Best I have had ever in my Life. I bet I can eat them without needing anything to supplement and Butter on top of it . Flawless to say the least.
**Jeera Rice & Tadka Dal - Heavenly taste with the perfect blend of Jeera & Garlic ; a treat for your tastebuds.
Great place to go when you are broke as I had all this and the bill was somewhere close to Rs 200.
The place is big enough to get you a seat ; the owner was quite jovial & we asked him how he works at such margins giving us this amazing taste & quality to which he replied " Its all God's grace" .
This was a great gesture and this place is for all of us out there who want to enjoy some great Dhaba Style food in the center of the City.
I really don't know why this place has a low rating. Yes, the roti and paratha is just poor but they cost so less!
But the pulaos are to die for and so are the vegetarian items. I've been here twice in two days. And loved their paneer bhurji, paneer rajma, kadhi pakoda, chana palak, jeera tomato pulav (the jeera tomato rice is sad though).
Super value for money and super homely food. Just a piece of advice, if your tastebuds are damaged by eating "spicy" food, stay away from this joint!

If you want eco friendly food to your pocket then visit this restaurant near bandra west station. They cook there food in coal which gives you a smoke tast. National Restaurant will provide you veg and non veg food both but personally I liked veg food specialy have paneer bhurji fry its delicious also had tomato rice that to taste good if you are going to bandra west must visit its just near to station. They accept cash only so kindly carry enough cash.

Been there many times. This is a totally pocket friendly restaurant service good Punjabi cuisine. From saag to kadi pakodi they serve everything and dishes are not more than Rs 90/- . The service personnels are also very good. Highly recommended.
This place in Bandra is now my regular place for lunch. if you have high expectations, this isn't the place for you. Humble is the keyword for National's. Wooden benches, menu on the board, half plate rates, simple staff, affordable prices are some of the things that define National's restaurant. My recommendations: Dal fry, chicken moghlai, chicken masala, rajma, tomato jeera rice, makki roti.
Probably one of the very few places in Mumbai that serve authentic Punjabi food. Nice wholesome homely experience. Even though this place is very old, you cannot miss this from the street. Just opposite of the lake outside Bandra West, it looks like a shady old restaurant that has been closed for a long time. But as soon as you walk in, or should I say climb down the stairs this place is bustling with people.
We sat down to look at the menu comprising of basic Punjabi Dishes both veg and non veg (only egg and chicken). Small place with 7 or 8 tables. Feels like any of those dhabas on the highway. Quick and prompt service. We had the food in front of us in matter of minutes.
Paneer Bhurji, Chicken Curry with Tandoori Roti and Jeera Tomato Rice. Made in pure ghee the Paneer Bhurji was not like anything I've had before. Not that spicy and just the right amount of everything.
Chicken Curry was delectable. Just the one piece of chicken though.
Crisp and hot Tandoori Rotis go along with that very well. And I strongly recommend ordering the Jeera Tomato Rice, that might be one of the best fried rice you may have ever tasted.
One might argue that the quantity of the food served was comparatively less, but for a single person the quantity served would be sufficient. It might even work for two people but you would wanna consider ordering two servings of rice.
The prices of all these places are surprisingly low considering this restaurant is in a place where everything else is slightly overpriced. Stop here for a quick lunch. Feel at home with the amazing food you get. No waiting long for your order, super quick service. And it won't make a hole in your wallet.
Ratings for this place
Food : 4.5/5
Service : 4/5
Ambiance : 3/5
Value For Money : 4/5
Its been 18 years and I visit this dhaba almost every month. Kaali daal is the best one also kadhi, gobhi aalok, yellow dal tadka, baigan bharta are also amazing..i have never seen any other place with such good food in budgeted price. I have nothing to say anything negative about the place. If you love to visit highway dhabas this is the place you must visit.
This little no-frills, no-AC, wash basin, wooden bench place close to Bandra station makes for a wholesome Punjabi meal.
Simple flavors. Tasty. Hot. Cheerfully priced. We ate a ton of food at about ₹200 odd a pop. They’ve got non-veg as well. But we tried only the veg. Recommend the rajma chawal & chole for sure. I’m pretty certain even their other fare is equally good.
Parking is a problem in the day time, but at night u should find a spot.
I’m not sure of its comfort during summer as the place has no ventilation.
A very old place i guess. This place serves good food at a reasonable price. Also very fast service even at peak lunch hours. Will have to try the veg options next time.
This seems to be a very old hotel with nothing much to talk about other then pocket friendly food.
It's on the main road towards the Bandra Station and is lower compare to the actual street level. From out side, it's looks very much like a steel cage with just a small name plate. Inside it has standard wooden tables and bench seatings. Staff is very neutral, very flat. No suggestions, no smiles, just order, eat & leave.
There menu looks straight out from 90's in terms of pricing. Almost nothing is over 100/-. And they have a 2 half mix dishes with long list of combinations.
I started with Paneer Rajma which were thick and bit less spicy. But they were cooked very well and tasted good with Tandoori Roti. Next was Vegetable Pulao which was next level. Piping hot with loads of veggies and rightly spiced. The rice were regular but everything together tasted very good. This is some stuff for which I will return.
Overall, this place won't be seen high by many as it doesn't looks good, but the food is above average. A hole in wall kind of setting makes it less visible but your nose might pull u there. Nothing to be changed, no suggestions, just keep on making good food without making any fuss and stay with the pocket-friendly menu u have.
Highly recommended only if just wanna eat good food. Will visit again.
Amazing.....
Loved the food and very reasonable !!
Could really give you the feels of a old Bandra restaurant of late 80's !!
I would recommend a must visit here...
Each and every dish is tasty and the taste is always home made whenever you go to eat !!
Great Food, If you Like Dhaba Food, Then this is the place to visit. It's Just Amazing. It's Cheap and fun place to eat with Friends, Also the Service is Amazing.
Walking distance from bandra station. A restaurant with dhaba like look. We had ordered mutter paneer, paneer bhurji and chana masala with sada roti and makai roti. Mutter paneer was not good but paneer bhurji and chana masala were good. Both the rotis were good. Overall i would say good place to have lunch within 100 rs per head(1 plate curry over here serves only one).
Hygenic, Cheap, Homely! What more we can ask for. Loved it.
near Station. We stumbled upon it by accident but went twice and simply loved the food.
National Restaurant is where people should go when they are in search of "Ghar ka Khana". It is a no-frills eatery with hygienic and quick service. The waiters are also friendly and suggest the needful combinations.
Sadly, we found the place during our last 3 days during our 2 month stay in Mumbai.
My friend and I ordered Rajma fried Pulao, Tomato Rice, Dal Makhni. Kali Dal fry, Makka roti and Tandoori roti. (In case, you're wondering, we went there for 2 days consecutively.)
The food is good, would rate it more than average. It is well spiced but they do not overdo it, thus sustaining the charm.
Definitely a must visit.
Great place to eat some good Punjabi/North Indian food. The food is good and light on the pocket too. Butter Rotis come with a nice blob of butter, the food is tasty and authentic, love the fact that people from all walks of life visit this place. Could eat here everyday!
Review 2: What a place in Bandra for a petbharke khana. It's more like a dhaba. Stick to vegetarian here. They serve all veggies in plain and fry ( do try both). The sabzi quantities are just perfect for one person. Try the Rajma, Pakora Curry, Alu Mutter, Paneer, all of them are plain smacking. For the breads, they have roti and makki Di roti( this is quite heavy ). In Winters, try the Sarso Da Saag+ Butter Roti, it's bliss. All these plates are offered at a very economical rate, costs for 2 will be around Rs250. 😱 So in lieu of a Starbucks croissant, you have a pet-full of awesome Punjabi food. They accept only cash, so plastic people go to the ATM before getting inside.
Review 1:
Saada Punjab in Bandra !! It feels like you are eating on a NH-8 Dhaba. The last time I tasted such radical punjabi food was in Southhall in London. The ambience is like a road side dhaba with simple tables and chairs. Parking is available easily. The mix of people is eclectic, blue collar guys eating their heavy calorie meal to the Bandra boys chasing some good authentic punjabi cuisine. They have a concept of half plates, basically it's sabzis with less quantity. Just order for the chana masala, rajma or the pakoda curry. The sabzis are purely magical. Normally Mumbai guys do not know what punjabi food tastes like, their version of punjabi food is the sorry mix of all vegetables, we get at the Udupi joints. The Udupi guys have literally created their own recipes of punjabi food. Coming back to National Hotel, the parathas and rotis are really nice and authentic. The extra makkan on the parathas will melt your worries away. I had ordered for a dal tadka, pakoda curry, roti, paratha and plain rice. All this stuff at Rs.173 😊, am I really in Bandra ? Overall a good place for a "pet bharkar " khana cooked like mommys style 👍🏻
Food over here makes u feeel like at home...............nice service n gud food combines dis joint to b a wonderful place..........................
A great place near to the station. The value for money place I can say.....
I suggest one to order their meal by seeing the black board which is placed inside the hotel... As you will find most of the items in the menu card it's not available, as I believe the ones in the black board the menu for the day..
We had ordered aloo gobi(Pata gobi) fry, paneer burji, and a dal Tadka.. The service is good, but the quantity might b less for a group of 3 (atleast for us it was less as we all are foodies and do have more 😁) so advice please do order double if more than 2 as one plate would come as less.... You do get half plates also here... The best part is the rate which is pocket friendly, and the food is like home cooked so one can enjoy the food without any extra masala's and all....
Then we ordered kadi and pulav rice... It was strange that the waiter said the kadi will come with the rice only(put above the rice, is not received separately).
For a group of 3 we ordered first 2 plates of it but later found out that 2 was enough and we ordered one more plate so that each one could have an individual plate of rice n kadi.. The combination is good... Also for spice lovers I don't suggest this dish...
Apart from this the ambience is good one could enjoy food here not as a star rated hotel but as a pocket friendly hotel, home cooked type etc....
My go to place for lunch everyday during internship.
This place may not look extravagant from outside or inside but the food surely makes up for it.
One of the legendary outlets in Bombay, it can serve two people within 300.
What a treat this place serves up... the kadi pakoda, dal fry, hot tandoori rotis with extra butter.... the place is clean, modestly priced and serves tasty food. Do try the chaas (in the afternoon only).
Was a regular here while i was staying in Mahim for a year. I miss this place. Surely would want to visit Mumbai to have a meal here....
Clean, honest and sustainable food.
National is the only place in town which comes close to a proper punjabi dhaba. This place makes piping hot food on coal and serves dishes that can make any true punjabi say 'badhiya aur genuine khana'.
I'm a regular visitor here and this place has be considerate on my wallet and stomach, both.
Recommendations - Rajma with Paratha followed by boiled egg pulav.
Cheers.
Being a North Indian, and staying in Mumbai from last 6 months I was in search of a good North Indian food. So, my chef friend suggested a place and took me along to this best place ever till date in Mumbai for me -National restaurant. ❤. What a great food they serve, that too home style punjabi khana and menu is full of all traditional items( urad sukhi daal, my personal favorite)
Kudos to the owner and staff of this awesome restaurant.
My suggestions- liver masala, sukhi daal, kadhi paida, chaas
Price range- ₹300-400 for 2 people, that too max.
Taste- pure punjabi( just not so spicy, that you can make on request)
Service- great
Value for money- 100%

My new go to place for home cooked food!
Do not go on the ambience or location, this old amazing restaurant I think serves the best desi Khaana. A friend of mine introduced me to this and I think him for this :)
Ordered rajma + Kali daal with rice and palak pulao. Great quantities, tasty and super affordable.
The taste is like ghar ka khaana, freshly cooked and piping hot food.
The only flaw is the soda that's used in the rice and rajma to be cooked.
I'd recommend it to all the people biding Mumbai or Bandra!
It's a classic.
First thing: those looking for this place, especially if you are near Bandra station, do not go by the address Zomato gives; coz this place is near the station end of Bandra Talao, but not as far as Turner road. Just take a right if coming out of the west side of station, and walk straight for 2 mins. To your right is this non-descript dhaba that, well, has a lot of working class men eating away, but that shouldn't deter you even if you are a lone girl visiting like I was, coz it is bustling with people, and hence safe. Plus the food makes up for the shady look it has.
All their items (in half plates) are written on a blackboard; and the price of none touches 3 digits. Ordered a rajma-paneer (novel combo) with a laccha parantha. Portions were adequate for one person and proportionate to pricing. The rajma was creamy but not fat-laden and complemented the paneer perfectly; the parantha with its layered, rosette-like look came with a blob of butter atop. The food was home-style but very tasty, and dispels the notion that north Indian fare needs to be rich and creamy to taste good. Drop that swagger if you must and come here to surrender to the earthy goodness of real, holistic food, instead of the imported junk that most modern restos serve.
With the damages being a mere 86 bucks, can one step out anything but fulfilled?
PS: The dhaba experience would ideally be surreal, if only they offered sweet lassi on their menu. No lassi in a Sardarji ka dhaba, blasphemy no?
One of my go to places for every time I miss home food. The biggest selling point is their quality and pricing. While the restaurant is old and seemingly dhaba-ish, they follow really hygienic conditions.
I've always felt the lower cost restaurants were under valued in Mumbai and this is a perfect example... I've ordered quite a few times from here and it's always tasty fresh and easy... by easy I mean the delivery and ordering experience... simple wholesome and yummy at a sensible price, works very well for me :-)
Serves great north indian food at an affordable price.
Food is cooked on charcoal which adds to its taste. Service is very quick. Many nearby working people visit this restaurant daily for their meals.
The only restaurant I've come across which cooks the food only on charcoal. That makes this restaurant different from others. You will get typical Dahaba feeling here. Owned by a Sardar, this restaurant offers Punjabi Cusine Dhaba Style & not like traditional Punjabi food which you find in Shetty managed restaurants. The taste of this Punjabi Food is unique & different because of Charcoal cooked. Its a pocket friendly restaurant which offers Paneer Sabjis @ only Rs. 55/- to Rs. 65/- for half quantity. That's quite enough for single person. Half quantity is too much. Their menu too mentions pricing for half plates. The best part is they give you a big cube of Amul Butter if you ask for Butter Roti which you need to apply on it. Only bad thing i find about this restaurant is the poor ventilation. It gets super HOT during afternoons & summer. Also, the kitchen is inside the dining premises which soars the temperature high. You are bound to sweat by the time you finish your meal. But at the end food compensates everything.
What to Eat:
Haven't tried Non Veg dishes yet. Hence listing down Veg dishes:
- Palak Paneer Fry
- Alu Gobi
- Rajma Fry
- Kali Dal
- Paneer Mutter Fry
For those who prefer the food spicy, always go for Fry dishes. Example: Don't go for just Palak Paneer. Instead go for Palak Paneer Fry.
Ambience: 1/5
Food: 4/5
Service: 3/5
I ate at this restaurant with one of my colleague/friend. Both of us are food frantic and are always ready to try new things. My colleague had eaten at the restaurant earlier and was after me to try this from quite sometime. So, finally we made it on last Saturday. I must tell that his pushing was worth it. Both of us have a taste of North and we know what authentic Punjabi food is all about.
I don't know about the celebrity and other people eating there or not but one thing is true and this place is fully value for money. We ordered for their Rajma Fry, Kaleji, Dal Fry, Chicken Curry with Tandoori Rotis and Laccha Paratha. Both of us relish the food and still after eating so much it was not at all heavy on stomach.
All the dishes were very well prepared and the best part was their service. We were done in half an hour.
I recommend this place to all the people who just love the food without being bothered about the luxuries of eating in a fine dine restaurant.
So this is the start of my review writing skills again, which I am back to, after a break.
Picking this legends place known for being the place for celebs and others earlier. The same cannot be said a out it now, but there is something comforting about this place.
I went there on a Saturday afternoon and ordered their famous rajma mixed with dal makhni, chicken curry and tandoori roti.
The service was quick, as expected at a place like this. The food, could have been better overall, especially the chicken, it hardly had much of a flavor. The rajma +dal makhni combo was goooood. The tandoori roti was also pretty decent.
I had half a plate of the 2 mains, and 3 rotis and guess what it cost me. I bet this will blow you away- 149/-
For the quality of food and the quantities plus in bandra, it helps to have places which serve good food and really good VFM.
if you're looking to catch up on some charcoal flavored, home cooked food which is absolutely light on your pocket but heavy o the stomach, this is the place you should head out to.
Food :3.5
Ambience :2.5
Service :4
Value for money :5
This is the place to be at.. if you have absolutely no qualms about the ambience and want to concentrate on the food itself..
National Restaurant.. Quite a landmark this place is.. they pride themselves on top quality Punjabi food. And they are really good.. All of their cooking is said to happen on coal-powered stoves.. which adds a smoky layer of flavour to the food and brings out the best in the spices and ingredients that go with it.. I tried their Rajma and Chana Mix Fry with crisp Tandoori Rotis, and topped it up with Kali Dal and Rice..
The Rajma and Chana went superbly well with a medium hot sauce high on Garam Masala and the Rotis, hot out of the Tandoor.. were a winning combination..
The Kali Dal was rich in flavour with a lot of slow cooking, and cream and butter added.. Mellow goodness!
A perfect fix for soul food.. The food is a clear victor here :)
lovely sweet place .. with a limited menu but great home like food. service is good and the amazing thing is the price.. really affordable..
Apt Place - stick to vegetarian
VFM - Ghar ka Khana
Ambience - how cares ... At the end its food which matters .
No AC , serves some good North Indian food.
Menu is divided into 2 sections - rates in full plates ( sada and fry )
Try each of them and i bet you will like it.
Rajma - well made , perfect spices , not over done . got that aroma of north Indian food.
Aloo Matter Fry - a bit oily for my liking but ok.
Kadu chana dal - good ( its basically laucki )
Kali dal fy - yum and rice .
Price range between 75/120 and serve like a rice plate.
Enjoy .. its a very basic place .. but food is good !!
This place is just mind blowing a small non ac place. Just don't go for the ambience or the interiors . But if u a really foodie just go to this place and try the food here . if u still very particular about the interior and the ambience then take a take away and have it were ever u want to. Ul love it. Chicken Masala chicken Liv masala . Plaou. Kali dal U order anything and ul just fall in love with the food served here. Only and only for the food it 5 on 5.
A place that gives you the feeling of highway lunch stops amidst the chaotic city life. A very good place to eat good food at economic rates. The Rajma with Kaali dal is one of my favourite dishes here. However the place lacks ambience as you would expect looking at the costs!
Fantastic and very reasonably priced food .....Rajma Kali daal here is awesome..delicious n completely different taste as food cooked on coal ...would love to go on repetitive basis :)

national restaurant located in prime area of bandra with awesome food. good taste simplen authentic punjabi crusine. specially mughlai chk a must try dish..... overall ican say mouth watering food n finger licking taste... a must visit place.... 👍👌
An awesome place for authentic punjabi khaana. Absolutely love the rajma chawal, kali dal, chicken masala. Whenever I'm in Mumbai i surely visit this place. You should definitely try this place if you are fond of food cooked on charcoal.@
One more place in bandra where I alway enjoy my meal, chicken moglai, lever masala ,rajma sukhi urad ki deal , dhai kadai, makki ki Roti ,lachha parade all of which is just amazing , cheers Nationals
The recipe of the food reflects the heritage of this place.
My father brought me here as this is a heritage eatery in Bombay. The place looked shabby and gloomy and slightly stingy. My father then started telling me so as to how lots of VIPs, film stars, and politicians used to come here to eat. And they still do come here to eat.
The food here is homely and inexpensive. It totally reflects the Bombay flavors. I ordered the chole sabji which was simple as good. The makke di roti was hard and dry though the corn flavor did come out. The rajma sabji was also great, not Delhi great but simple great. The normal roti was better and nice. The chass was thin but not sour. The pulao was simple with adequate vegetables, though slightly oily.
Overall, simple food and nothing else.
To all those who have not been baptized with a visit to nationals please note : they have three four types of tadkas for every dish, with oil or butter , plain or with lassoon tamatar pyaaz! You can also ask them to put the green chillies whole or cut. Check out the blackboard for what's cooking. Their makki ki roti is now a tourist attraction. People from Punjab come here and eat Punjabi food to get that authentic taste of Punjab. Go for it.
This food joint / Resturant you may wanna call it does t look like your typical Resturant but hold your horses ! The food they serve is mind boggling ! Organismic ! Finger licking good ! The best part of this place is they they serve you the authentic Makai ki Roti with the butter cubes floating on it and the butter milk / Chaas that they serve is to just die for , there are other food in the menu chicken curry and dal is just cheery on the top ! Very very reasonable ! This place every one must try it out and I bet you won't be disappointed. !
National Dhaba redefines the concept of Value for money. They write their menu on a black board which displays unreal prices. Tandoori roti costs Rs 5 and chicken masala less than Rs 50. It's a small place outside Bandra railway station west hidden among clutter of Xerox shops. The place has simple wooden benches for sitting which you may have to share with strangers. There is no air conditioning and the huge tandoor in their kitchen makes the place hot and humid. But all this discomfort is worth the brilliant food they serve. Their menu includes limited but authentic veg and non veg Punjabi dishes. Do try their liver masala and paneer bhurji. Rajma, makkai ki roti and saag are also good. Inspite of low prices the quality and taste of food is consistently excellent. Finish your meal with their refreshing butter milk. The staff is too busy to be friendly but they serve quick. Though small and very busy the place is clean. They don't serve cold drinks or mineral water. Use the steel glasses and jug kept on the table, its clean and safe. Food is cooked on coal with good quality ingredients. Eating here always gives me a feeling of having home cooked meal. Spicy food lovers may find the gravies a little bland. In that case you may ask them to add extra chillies to the gravy. They charge only Rs 3 for that :-). It's one of the rarest places in Mumbai where one can eat stomach full in less than Rs 75 without compromising on food quality. The place is usually crowded in afternoon as lots of people from nearby offices and colleges have their everyday lunch here. I have been visiting this joint since last 10 years and haven't noticed any dip in quality or taste. They are just awesome and I hope nothing changes. Btw 10 years ago they used to serve tandoori roti for Rs 2. Unreal prices indeed right ?
This place is just too good! Some mouth watering desi Punjabi style ghar ka khana, with the aroma of coal. And the rotis are out of the world with that slice of Amul butter. Super reasonably priced, add just about Rs. 15 and get your order fried with extra masala and butter. Should try - Dal Fry, Rajma Fry, Egg Bhurji, Alu Ghobi Dry Fry, Chicken Curry Fry...This place is a mismatch in the city of Mumbai when it comes to food.
This restaurant is one of the best Punjabi and budget-friendly restaurants in Bandra. The food here is very delicious and the interior of the place has also developed a lot. Also, the service is very fast here. A recommended place to visit for authentic and easy on pocket Punjabi food. Some of the must try dishes are - Dal Khichdi, Rajma Kaali Dal, Sarson Da Saag, Paneer bhurji, Paneer Masala, Anda Masala, Chicken Afghani, alu/paneer paratha.

Delicious food. Simple but clean seating areas. Sinks for washing hands. I recommend paneer bhurji, rajma, paratha, roti, and paneer paratha with butter...yummmm! Small Coca-colas. I also want to say how honest the staff is. I forgot my Kindle at the table and the server brought it to me as I was leaving. 10/10 recommended for flavor of the food and also great, quick service.
I recently had a delightful dining experience at this place. The diverse menu catered to both vegetarians and non-vegetarians, offering a wide range of delicious options. The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring a pleasant dining atmosphere. The restaurant's ambiance added to the overall positive experience, making it a place I look forward to visiting again. Highly recommended!
Went back to National after a gap of almost 20 years and the taste is absolutely the same as it was in early 2000's. Enjoyed the Rajma, Paneer Bhurji and Kadhi Pakoda. The Laccha Paratha with chillies was also really good. Also had the chole and tomato jeera rice. Unfortunately they were out of Chaas which we really used to enjoy. This is a very affordable place with really good taste. The entire meal cost us just about Ra 650 and we had eaten till we were stuffed
Hi folks, want a diwali treat for your guests?
Guess, where will you get authentic, desi food at very reasonable price? Head to National Restaurant, located in the most scenic Bandra West!!!
National Restaurant is a very good place, if you want Punjabi food then you can also visit here.If you order anything to eat, you will not have to wait much, the serving is very fast. You will not get such food easily especially in big restaurants It is 20 kilometers away from my house, yet I often come here with my family or friends.
