Oddly this place has become our usual watering hole. The alcohol is very reasonable and the food gobsmacking. I cannot stress enough on how great the food is over here and the manager and owner are lovely people. My personal favourites are the Tisrya, the bombil fry, surmai tava fry, chicken kalimiri and the cheese garlic naans.
The staff is very good and the crowd is also good enough. The food is mouth watering and tasty. My favourites are chicken saagwala, chicken jalfrezi, chicken chilly garlic noodles and chicken triple sehzwan fried rice.
After ages I felt like having the mutton Paya soup as I had an Injured ligament so as suggested by doctor.
I ordered the mutton paya soup which was undoubtedly super delicious, well prepared, well packed and the quantity was very good.
Definitely trying it again and would recommend it highly..

I was here on a late Sunday afternoon and it was definitely one of the best meals I've had!
We tried:
Bombil fry: The bombils here are so fresh, big and you'll not stop at just 1 plate! We ordered one for each of us! It goes so well with a chilled beer.
Paya soup: So comforting and delicious, the Paya was so tender and yum!
Crab Meat soup: This was okay but didn't disappoint.
Squid masala: Spicy but so tasty! This was cooked to perfection and wasn't chewy at all. It was perfect!
Surmai masala: The fish was so fresh and the masala was yum! We had it with Neee Dosa.
Fish curry: This curry went perfectly with hot sting rice!
It was a perfect seafood lunch and certainly won't burn a hole in your pocket!

I have tasted all the below items:
1) Bombil fry- Delicious, crispy on the outside soft in the inside, well cooked and blended perfectly
2) Neer Dosa- 4 pieces of neer dosa well prepared
3) Pomfret fry- Very crispy and delicious cooked to perfection
4) Lep Fry- Fresh and crispy
5) Tisrya shell masala- perfect blend of spices in the masala. typical malwani style if u love shell fish must try. The masala is so tasty i licked every bit of it. This is a must try for me
6) Prawns chilli Malvani - Very yummy masala the amount of prawns also were good and the prawn were medium sized small and medium both unfortunately the only minus point was the prawns was not cooked properly they were still rubbery I didn't like the prawns.
7) Pomfret Tandoori- Pomfret was tender & soft but the masala lacked taste which is the main thing for the Pomfret to taste like Tandoori. I didn't enjoy it much would prefer pomfret fry anytime. It also lacked salt
8) Pomfret Tawa Deep Fry- Fried well. It was tasty and fresh. Also the spices blended well and it was way better than pomfret fry.
9) Surmai Masala - Delicious masala very yummy tastes good with rice. Fresh fish and tender melting in the mouth.
10) Prawn Rechado - Expected prawns fried with rechado (goan spicy masala mostly used for frying fish by goans). but is was semi dry. The masala was good, quantity of prawns was good but I feel they didn't cook the prawns well. It was still rubbery and weird.
11) Biryani Rice - flavourful, long basmati rice and colourful
Canara bar & Restaurant near fort is best for sea food lovers...they serve the best Bombil-deep fried(Bombay duck) and also the prawns and fish curry with plain rice/neer dosa is an amazing combination...even the biryani and tandoori items are best...But certainly try their fried Bombil...
It is one of the affordable and best-tasting food restaurant located in fort which is busy commercial hub in south mumbai. It is very peaceful and local bar and seafood is great. We tried bombay duck fry, surmai fry and prawns with neer dosa which was great and light. One can visit with friends as well as with family as they also provide separate seating for family which is again good thing. One can also find other big restaurant and bar next to canara but i will recommend not to visit as they are over priced and not at all food is great. Friendly staff.

The sitting is very limited in the top section and you may want to reach on time to avoid any waiting.

, Bombil Boneless Crispy and Chicken Tandoori for starters. The Surmai and Bombil dishes were simply awesome.
For main course we ordered for the Pomfret Curry with Neer Dosa and Butter Chicken with Tandoori Roti. Everything was just fine and perfect.

Very nice place for sea food. There is a place on too only for families. The squids burnt chilly fry is the best. Also the Bombay duck fry is mouth watering. Totally recommended.

Quench for beer, hot Mumbai weather & need of closest proximity to CST before on boarding Deccan Queen brought me to Canara.
By the looks of it, it may be taken as "one of those bars" near railway station. There's an AC cum "family" section & a non AC section. Without a doubt settled in AC section. Although they say that AC section is open only till 3 pm, by the time I was out@4.40, there were few tables still occupied.
Booze is served by quarter system, one of the most important thing I look for in a bar. No free chakana (which is common across Mumbai bars, except few in Girgaon).
Sea Food is awesome. Bombay duck fry was crisp, & well made. In curries, they've manglorian & malvani.
Pomfret manglorian curry was superb & most importantly without bombarding curry leaves in it. Went well with super soft neer dosa.
PS: Go there in the evening and find some awesome crowd upstairs in AC section.
One of the best sea food places ever. It helps, that the place is close to the docks; you get fresh sea food. We went in with an open mind as we had only heard of Gomantak and Pratap Lunch Home but those are too expensive or only have Thali system. Trust me, this is your go-to place if you want to eat fresh sea food, without burning a hole in your pocket.

This place has been a personal favorite for me as a 'budget place' for devouring some lovely sea food items with drinks.. Best enjoyed with the company of a few close friends! This is a small restaurant with no fancy decor, but houses some really delectable food. One may miss locating the place during the day time, but come evening, the bright orangey red colour in which the name 'Canara' flashes, is hardly unnoticed.
The place serves one of the best Bombay Duck fry (or Bombil fry, as they call it), which has been the highlight for me since quiet some time. And must I say, the quality of the dish has been maintained! This dish is best enjoyed with the green chutney served (at times you may have to call for it, in case the attendant doesn't serve you the same) with the dish and a dash of lime..
We ordered another starter i.e. Cheese Pakoda.. And this dish is a must try for cheese lovers.. The only drawback with this dish was that it was prepared and served in such tiny portions that the entire dish got gobbled up in few seconds!
Another dish we ordered was the Butter Garlic Prawns, which was very well prepared and also a must try! A big thumbs up for this dish..
Then we ordered the Surmai Tawa Fry, which though juicy on the inside, I felt could have been slightly better done at the crust! The Crispy Chicken we ordered was good.. taste wise, but not as crispy as the dish ought to be! In fact by the time we were served the dish, it was Luke warm. On pointing out the same to our table attendant, he quickly took away the dish and brought us a hot plate again!
After being decently stuffed with the starters, we ordered for the main course.. One of my friend wanted to have the Prawns Gassi with Neer Dosa.. So deciding the dish wasn't a problem for us. This dish also, though could have been better, wasn't a disappointment. The extra gassi we ordered was delicious too..

Tucked away on the busy Shaheed Bhagat Singh Road.. 2 mins from GPO, lies this lil jewel. Been frequenting Canara for well over 5 years and it has never disappointed. Runs on a quarter system, the lower floor is a mishmash of men of college kids tucking into heavenly food. Family room is upstairs and it completely women friendly, my wife has been frequenting here as long as I have.
A full service bar is available and the quarter system (180ml) rules. Pegs are poured as requested by the patrons. Must recommend is Squid Chilly Malvani, Stuffed Pomfret and the crowd favorite.. Bombil Fry.. Do not miss the Prawns Gassi Rice. And the Surmai Rava Fry.. And the Crab Malvani .. and practically everything else. And do keep a beer handy. Service is professional and prompt, with the staff knowing exactly what to offer. They let you know upfront if a particular fish is not the best.
Overall, head here for a good time, amazing sea food and not burn a hole in your pocket. Head early to get a table. It's perpetually packed.
Do note the washroom isn't women friendly. There is a separate washroom which is unlocked if women need to use. Do ask the cashier.

A friend of mine suggested me this place and was sure that I will like the food here. This place is totally for someone who drinks and enjoys food at the same time. Place is divided in to sections A/C and NON A/C, ambience is good where I saw all kind of people coming in, from firangs to oldies to college groups to office peeps. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Canara looks like just another small bar from the outside, but once you go in, it's surprisingly large. We only ordered seafood, because we're fancy, and we weren't disappointed. The crab masala and tisrya masala were both great, and not too heavy on the wallet. Remember this is still a bar, so some DSP on the side wouldn't hurt.
This restaurant is an amazing hangout place to catch up with your friends. The USP of this place is the seafood. Though a typical shetty bar, i personally prefer this place for seafood.

next was prawns koliwada, though the salt was a bit less, it tasted amazing (4/5)
next was shanghai prawns, this was the best dish for the night. Simply amazing (6/5). i am not bad at maths :P
then came the crabs masala. I couldnt believe i was having fresh crabs in monsoons. The taste of crab was great though the masala was a bit to much. 4/5

After a long time, someone else decides the menu - my friend - of course it was agreeing approval.
Bombil fry, mandeli fry, prawns masala, neeeeeer dosa, bhakri .. Bas as of now.
The waiter was quick in getting the order, I would say bombil fry is a must try, mandeli fry go for it. Prawns masla don't miss it. Dosa was soft and nice, bhakri was good.
The food is tasty and fits ur budget.

Superb sea food. The visit was impromptu and my we weren't disappointed. A mangalorean outlet hardly gets its fish wrong, and so was the case with Canara. Don't be intimidated by the look of this place. It has a very decent family section upstairs. Service is quick, fish is fresh. Try the prawns butter garlic (very different), squid chilly, bombil fry and the malvani chilly squid. Decent biryani too.
Its the best Resto Bar I've ever been too. Their Seafood delicacies are to die for. Squid Butter Garlic, Bombil Fry etc. Never miss out on those items and yes its pocket friendly as well.

I Visit this place quite often not only for their drinks but also for the amazing food this place has to offer. You must try their onion rings which I must say can give quite a tough fight to the ones made by Burger King and other such places. Apart from that all the mangalore specialities are amazing and also the Chinese. Overall it's amazing. PS: all you girls out there don't fall back cause it's a bar. These guys convert their upper deck into a family zone on Sundays.
One of the best places to hav good bumbai macchi... Although it is a bar but coming along your female friends is not a problem at all. Lip smacking , food . SEA FOOD prices hav been overrated in Mumbai and what you get in return is coconut gravy ... Anything cooked in cocnit gravy is not Konkan or manglorian food, canara possess that excellent take that a fish fanatic would look out for, however here one doesn't end up paying their salary in a day, their bombil crispy fry with cocconut chutney is to die for, even if u stay in any of the remote area's of Mumbai coming here and enjoying their seafood work. Every dish is a treat.
P.s stick to SEA FOOD its amazing and value for money
Its a normal restaurant and bar with typical settings like a soft drink refrigerator at the entrance, cash counter will have a temple as big as you find in Orissa, yellow lights (not always helpful to spot the colour of your food) and will serve water in steel glasses before the menu arrives. Although i didn't intend to spend my weekend over here, it was a night after few drinks and you often hunt for a cheap place to grab a bite. Relying completely on word of mouth i ordered Leppi which turned out to be amazingly, flavourful and crisp. Sprinkle some lemon juice before you binge on! Quite satisfy with surmai in terms of its taste and size. Dont forget to order prawn fried rice, its bit saucy with juicy prawns, serve with white creamy kinda liquid, perhaps yoghurt but not completely convince. Overall a good value for money, considering seafood always priced high. An attentive staff and hygienic clean place to eat.

Lovely place and delicious Mangalorean food! The Surmai fry (jumbo size) was surprising in regards to the in size and excellent in taste! Must visit if you love coastal food, especially Mangalorean :)
Reasonably priced for drinks and great food. They don't play loud music which, for me is a personal preference. One can just talk with friends and family while enjoying the food and drinks. As recommended, the seafood and non-veg items are too good.
Food was yumm..moatky filled with crowd which comes to drink. Family only on weekends.
But the Mangalore food experiece was superb especially with neer dosa nd sukha chicken.
