Good place to have authentic South Indian Food. You will find a typical South Indian atmosphere in this cafe with Annas serving the food in lungi & aroma of hot filter coffee. Favorite place of the local community to have some chitchat & Sunday Breakfast after morning walk.
Great experience and amazing food.
The staff is very polite and helpful.
Food is typical south indian. Must try is rasam and dosa. The filter coffee is amazing too.
Place is very cozy and quite comfortable.
Overall a great place to visit for breakfast.
Can get crowded at peak times.
Good traditional south Indian food joint... their filter coffee is amazing... dosa idli and wada taste good ask for gatte green chutney.. personally I like ramashraya
One among the legendary food joints in Matunga.
Masala dosa and Podi idli is a must try.
This South Indian eatery effortlessly transports you back in time with its unwavering commitment to simplicity. From the classic wooden furniture to the friendly serving team and the timeless ambiance, every aspect of this place exudes nostalgia.
The menu card, a relic from the past, mirrors this commitment to authenticity. What truly sets this establishment apart are its distinctive food offerings, a refreshing departure from the usual fare found in casual Udipi restaurants. The ever-smiling staff and the dedicated owners add an extra layer of warmth to the experience.
In summary, this place is a beacon of pure simplicity, offering a unique and delightful South Indian dining experience.
Authentic South Indian food joint which has still maintained the simplicity, which actually takes you few years back when you visit the place. The furniture, the serving team, the ambience and Menu card. Pure simplicity is what will describe this place best. Food options are also unique, different from found in casual Udipi restaurants around. Always smiling staff and the owners.
Great food quality first floor little bit expensive but for to meet someone is good
Sharda Bhavan is a nice small homely type place located in matunga. It is an Udupi restaurant and serves south Indian food.
We ordered rasam Vada, medu wada, idli and ulundu dosa and I liked everything there. It was good in taste, however I prefer Manis and Ramashray more over this place in terms of food taste.
It has a small outdoor section too where they serve food when no rains.
It's filter coffee is nice, but tea was not that great.
Sharda Bhavan restaurant located in Matunga is a hidden gem for foodies who love crisp dosas. The restaurant has an extensive menu that includes traditional South Indian cuisine and is especially famous for its dosas. If you are someone who enjoys the crispiness of a dosa, Sharda Bhavan is the perfect place for you.
One of the must-try dishes at Sharda Bhavan is the Mysore sada dosa. The dosa is made with a spicy red chutney and is served with sambar and coconut chutney. The combination of the spicy chutney and the crispy dosa is simply delicious.
Although Sharda Bhavan is famous for its dosas, the restaurant also offers a variety of other South Indian dishes, such as idlis, vadas, and uttapams. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable, making it an excellent value for money.
Despite its excellent food quality, Sharda Bhavan is often overlooked as people tend to prefer the restaurant next door, Ramashray. However, Sharda Bhavan has a unique taste and is a great option for those who want to avoid the long waiting lines at Ramashray.
Overall, Sharda Bhavan is a fantastic place to enjoy authentic South Indian cuisine. With its extensive menu, generous portions, and reasonable prices, it is definitely worth a visit. If you are a fan of crispy dosas, make sure to try the Mysore sada dosa – it's a game-changer!
Bang opposite matunga station !
Limited seating . Old school ambience
Menu includes traditional south indian options .
Loved the ghee podi idly/ rasam wada and dosas !
Coffee is worth a try too .
Sharda Bhavan is unadorned with the usual long queue but is a simpleton charming eatery in its full avatar. Small menu but big on taste and fulfillment.
My usuals are Ghee Podi Dosa, Rava dosa coffee and their pineapple sheera. Dosas here are on crispier so do inform the server while placing order if you want soft. Sambar is spiced well and pineapple sheera boasts of a wonderful tartness of the pineapple and the mellow semolina.
It's a must visit for anyone who loves South Indian dishes and is crazy about Filter Coffee. If you are in Matunga or around King Circle, you should definitely try this place. Fast and instant service, family and friendly atmosphere, as reasonable as a place can be, with lots of amazing food options to satisfy that craving.
P.S.: Do not forget the Filter Coffee.
The food was awesome, and the prices were affordable. The atmosphere would take you in the old era.
My recommendation would be Onion Mysore Dosa, Pineapple Sheera, Podi Idli and Coffee.
Out of the many south indian restaurants in Matunga East - Sharda Bhavan stands out as it still retains its old look with the Irani Cafe style stone top tables & wooden chairs.
Unlike the other famous places like Ram Ashray & Arya Bhavan; Sharda Bhavan has a more laid back and relaxed feel.
Also there is no seeming rush by the servers to get you to order - eat - move out like the other 2 mentioned crowded places.
The Crispy Medu Wada, Mysore Sada Dosa, Onion Rava Dosa & Pineapple Sheera are excellent & my personal favorites . The other items on the menu are also equally good.
Do give this place a try! :-)

This joint is opposite Matunga station.
Must try their signature dishes including,
1) Radam Vada (vadas dipped in a bowl of rasam)
2) Ulundu Dosa (thicker variety of dosa with jeera)
3) Bunn Puri (slightly sweet and soft goodness)
Drown it all down with their Filter Coffee (awesome authentic and south indian kaape).
One of the only restaurants where the waiters still wear lungis.
Smiling and fast service at affordable rates.
Simple ambience.
