Of course, food is the centre of all attention, and my favourite meal of the week to catch up with the crew has got to be Sunday Brunch! So when the kind folks at Cecconi’s invited us over to experience their lovely spread, we just couldn’t decline!
Cecconi’s, is an open to all Italian restaurant located on the ground floor of the classy Soho House Hotel, Mumbai and in my opinion, has the most stunning view in the city! Overlooking Juhu beach, it’s European style wooden interiors give the place a lovely vintage feel while the soft sea breeze in your hair as you sip on your Bellini sets the perfect vibe for the brunch to come!

Staring with their salad bar, there are plenty of options to choose from. Basics like a Greek and Russian salad which I think is lovely to have on the menu especially for fussy children; as well as salads like Tuna Bean, Farfalle & Olive and Basil Chicken, there is something for everyone! But personally my favourites were the Pancetta & Cabbage and the Parmesan & Black rice salad. It amazed me to see how simple ingredients came together so beautifully , with the saltiness of the pancetta being balanced by the crunchy cabbage and the Parmesan adding tons of flavour to the humble black rice. Very well done Chef!
For those of you who know me, I could very well survive on a diet of just cheese and meat, and the cheese wheel and meat board at Cecconi’s definitely did not disappoint! A grana padano cheese wheel cut into half and decorated around its rim with cheeses of different kind like Brie, Gouda, Emmental, Blue, Chèvre and Goat’s cheese, my go-to was slices of grana padano topped with a generous dollop of the most delicious blueberry preserve complete with slivered almonds that I snagged from the make your own waffle counter! Grab some prosciutto from the meat board and enjoy with your drink, tapping your feet to the live music they have playing throughout brunch!
What set apart Cecconi’s brunch from other brunches that we’ve been to is that there are plenty of healthy options on the menu. And by plenty, I mean a lot. Starting with a live seafood grill, a ‘make your own eggs’ counter as well as a completely vegan section, we loved that you can try a little bit of everything without feeling too full. The live seafood grill was definitely a favourite amongst the crowd- baby lobsters, snapper and prawn being grilled to perfection with the chef putting up quite a show with his flambé techniques; the constant ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ of the ladies passing by providing much deserved appreciation and encouragement! Though we decided to give the eggs a skip, the vegan section featuring juliennes of carrot and cucumber served with hummus, muhammara and a beet root dip was definitely refreshing to see on a brunch buffet given the current vegan trend with even hardcore non vegetarians giving up meat! Of course sticking to the very theme of the restaurant, the Italian cuisine did not disappoint. Their wood fired pizzas have the perfect crust topped with a flavourful marinara and generous helpings of buffalo mozzarella. If you’re non-vegetarian, definitely add pancetta to your pizza, you will not regret it! The lasagne and mac and cheese were creamy and delicious with a lovely crusty layer on top. From the live pasta section, we chose to have the Cacio e pepe, a traditional Italian hand rolled pasta, which has an almost spaghetti like texture but is much flatter. Best made in a white bechamel sauce topped off with loads of pepper! A special mention to the chef painstakingly hand rolling the pasta- we could totally feel the love and care with which it was made, as if straight out off an Italian Nonna’s Kitchen! Recently, Cecconi’s has introduced an Indian section as well so incase the cheese, rice and carbs get too much, you have some ‘desi khana’ to break the monotony. The melt-in-your mouth Galouti kebabs was definitely what stood out for us, with the daal makhani coming in at a close second place. Other options included amchuri bhindi, andhra chicken pulav, dhoklas, mutton nihari and a tandoori section as well.
No brunch spread is complete without dessert and this one left us feeling like kids in a candy store! Not one but three varieties of doughnuts- dark chocolate, milk chocolate and glazed, chocolate eclairs, vanilla cupcakes, lemon curd tarts, apple cinnamon tarts and what not. But what kept us coming back for seconds and even thirds was the super moist lemon and coconut cake and those adorable mini dough balls dusted in powdered sugar called beignets that we had tried during our travels to France and have been dreaming of ever since! It was such a pleasure to find them right here in Mumbai!
We highly recommend experiencing the Sunday brunch at Cecconi’s. It’s perfect for a family gathering, a date, a fun day out with your girlfriends or even just to unwind by yourself! The brunch offerings are lovely, and combined with impeccable service and a fantastic view, this one’s a must visit! Make sure you make reservations in advance to avoid disappointment.
For the upcoming festivities, they have a special Christmas brunch planned for the 25th and well as an on going special Festive menu until the 31st of December!
