Lovely food 👍 and Yaa the Ambience is toooo quite no sound Nuthing ... But food awesome keep it up guys 😇 make the place little more vibrant and lively
It was a pleasant experience to eat here. It refreshed the memories of the dayson which I went to this joint when I used to live in bandra. Although Highway Gomantak is a fav choice for many near the area, this restaurant is not bad for those who want to try keralaite cuisine. We had fish curry, veg crispy both of which were super and the must have appams . Even the indian style bhindi masala was good. I am taking off a point for poor ambience and for feeling claustrophobic as the space is quite small.
I love eating food made with coconut and rice. So, I visited this place with a friend. Appam was good and fresh, we ordered a mushroom dish with gravy. Mushrooms were very fresh and gravy was prepared with fresh coconut milk. It was simple, mild preparation but with great flavour. I liked it.
Sambhar was Stale, I ate only 2 bites and left it. I think it was from previous day or more than 2 days. This is the only reason I am giving this place 3.5 star and not 4.5.
Deserve a cheers....performed beyond our simple expectations. We have ordered Shorbha, Tangdi Kabab, Nadan Chicken and Paratha (Keralate style) and we are more than happy with 3 of the items and the price is reasonable....

A great restaurant with good service and fantastic food.
Quantity and quality of the food is great.
Definitely worth a visit.
Now this is the place where you should go to have an wholesome meal. The staff is very helpful . They explain every dish on the menu very patiently. Music is soothing , ambience is classy , could not ask for more.
Rice boat - Well this is one of the hidden gems in the capacity of bandra east dealing in kerala cuisine.
Although locating this place can be quite tricky, the landmark is few steps ahead of famous restaurant highway gomantak.
Coming to the ambience - The theme, the decor the ambience is just perfect for dinner.
The restaurant has few antiques as their main attraction apart from the huge vibrant fish aquariums at the both ends!
In background they had these malyali songs being played in a very mild and soothing way. Totally liked it!
The only issue here is the place is quite claustrophobic.
Main attraction - table napkins folded in a form of boat.
Food - This was the first time, when I came across particularly to be known as kerala cuisine, as for all of us everything sums up as South Indian cuisine.
We were greeted with a small glass of rasam as an appetizing drink.
The taste of the rasam was quite tangy as it has tamarind as one of its main ingredients followed by mix of few spices and condiments with a decent sprinkle of pepper.
Starter - paneer olathiathu
This is a traditional mix of onions and paneer shallow fried with curry leaves, green chillies and spices along with pepper.
The paneer was soft, the flavour was entact and it was served with coconut chutney and onions.
Note - the coconut chutney is made with tamarind giving it a different taste and onions are served by dabbing them into coconut milk making them more palatable.
Main course - Koonu paccha masala.
The koonu paccha masala is one of their vegetarian specialities made up of button mushrooms cooked in green masala and coconut paste.
This was served to us with appams.
Appam can be called as a brother of dosa with thick base and soft texture.
Quite different than our ordinary mushroom masala, the coconut as the main ingredient of the curry gave it a different taste.
Recommended.
Veg saddhya - (Vegetarian thali)
This includes 2 servings of appams with one serving of rice, dal, sambhar, curd, rasam, two types of Avial and pacchakari accompanied by above mentioned coconut chutney and onion salad followed by papad and to conclude with their sweet dish (payassam).
Must try - Avial
We were served with two types of them.
One of them was a combination of cabbage and coconut with few spices - superlike!
The other one was a mix of multiple vegetables like brinjal, raw banana and etc.
Pacchakari - Banana preparation resembling to bhajiya with a dominant flavour of garlic again-superlike!
The saddhya is a huge meal by itself so only recommend to people with huge appetite.
Note - All their preparations are quite salty than the normal salt consuming level. Please mention it to them beforehand about the salt content.
In the end as desert we concluded with semiya payassam, highly recommend this vermicelli kheer served piping hot with infusion of dry fruits.
Staff - Very polite and welcoming the staff is suggestive as well as informative got to know many things about the cuisine through them.
Although the only drawback of this place could be that it's time consuming.
The service is quite on a slow pace needs to be bit faster.
Value for money - the restaurant is decently prized with few items being on a higher side also.
Rice boat with it's Excellent delivery of taste, wide menu, prompt staff and fair portion size gains a highly recommended status.
Ratings based on - Taste and ambience
Very good food but landmark could be made more visible. Service took a bit of time but the wait was worthwhile as food was sumptuous. Will visit often for a leisurely lunch and dinner.
the traditional kettu vallam "Rice Boat"located at bandra east creates a feel of kerela in its ambience, the thalis they serve known as saddhyas are nothing less than food fest; its a total value for money
One of the best keralite food restaurant... Try sadya, palapam, keralite style butter milk...... List is long....... And food is awesome everytime I visit........... Must visit for all food lovers.......... They make authentic keralite food...... CoOwner who is keralite, supervise every dish of food preparation. Just the best.
Those looking for authentic flavors from Kerala can go to this place blindfolded. Went there for Onam Sadhya and what a spread on a banana leaf. Taste buds gone mad with the sheer variety.
On the day of #Onam the only wish one has is to have the Sadhya! Our team at work quite foodies all of us decided for the motion and the nearest and the best option we had was Rice Boat
Located on the service road towards Worli on the Kalanagar stretch very close to Highway Gomantak. Low on parking space, and the place can make you place without a waiting area.
Usually they serve Sadhya everyday at a price of 340/- per plate and on Onam the price was more than double! Fine we expected the inflation but not to this extent. Therefore the food had to be that awesome. We had to wait for 30mins for a table since they were only serving in the order of people arriving and finishing ! So even after you got the table, you had to wait for a while before the sadhya was served. It took close to 15mins for the food to arrive which looked very neatly arranged and had dozens of options to choose from. So there was appam, brown rice and white rice plus a surprise in the end in the mains, Avial and 4 other veggies which I can't name, 3 chutneys and a salad type, applam, the best sambar and rasam I have had in Mumbai, dahi kadi, paysam and jaggery desert and the surprise in the end was idiappam! It was basically served because they ran out of appam!
All of the food tasted good but unfortunately they lost marks in the service department, although the lady at the reception was very courteous the waiters couldn't manage to serve the unlimited meals to full effect. I would like to go there again on a non-Onam day and try some non veg food as well !
It's not everyday that you find a nice, quiet restaurant tucked away in an equally relaxing locale. Rice boat promises the best Malayalee culinary experience and promptly delivers.
While service is slow, it's because visitors to this restaurant are few and far between. But then again, it gives you all the time in the world to chat face to face with the person you are with. If only more people knew about this wonderful little restaurant with its authentic tastes.
Order some appam or hoppers as u prefer and chicken stew and I am sure u will be teleported to some backwater boat in kerela...
Food is light on ur system and fresh.
Kept authentic as possible.
I dnt know why is it still so underrated in its locality.
So here you go big shout out to #riceboat
A Kerala cuisine place that has a lot of authentic dishes like fish pollichathu, ishtu (stew), seafood saadhya and even all my favourite sweet dishes. Service is a bit slow but worth the wait.
The best place to have appam and nonveg Kerala curryy..... Will upload pics if i go tonight.... Really sad that versova Rice Boat didnt work out.. Really sad
Something different is what i would say for this place. I did not know Kerala cuisine was so delicious. Definitely some place i would recommend and go again.
Rice boat has the typical Kerala menu to offer.. so all you southie food lovers, this is the place to indulge in the coastal food of the southern tip of India.. They serve the special south Indian thali, authentically on the elli (plankton leaf) the only thing you'd probably miss, is the thambi walking around with the bucket of sambhar. Personal favorites here were the masala appam with chicken stew (the veg stew isn't bad either) and the prawns in the roasted masala gravy which is indeed difficult to pronounce.. special addition to my list is their konju olathiathu, a yummy prawn starter.
Visited this place specifically to have Kerala style food during month of April. Although right next to the western express highway, little difficult to locate as it is slightly hidden among a row of shops. Ambience and decor was good.
We had ordered the non veg thali which was the special for the occasion.
The dishes served were small in quantity and add to it, it was a limited thali.
I felt that the dishes were not authentic Kerala style but closely resembled which is far better from few I have had in Mumbai.
Will have to try their other dishes to give a final verdict.
Surely will return to try out other dishes on their menu..
While their a la carte orders can swing from good to OK, they always get it right with their Sadhya (the meals). Always a great homesickness fix for mallu's.
Great place good food a must visit once... Most ppl will be confused with the elaborate menu its good to stick to the thali
So i went there after years. I was a kid when my parents had got me here.
The service is very slow. That is bearable as long as the food is great. The starters were great especially the spiced prawns as suggested by one of the service guys. The appams & the Istu, plus the chicken gravy was a great combination.
If you are in mood for great South Indian food with a very much relaxed service, you should definately visit thia place.
Not very pricey & value for money. Roughly Rs. 650/- per head, but worth it. I would go again n spread the word too.
First ot waz good bt nw no 1 go there
ah! whenever i crave for appams with egg roast or any other spicy kerala style dish...this is one of the first joints that comes to my mind.
a small quaint place....where all the people serving you are dressed in traditional attire....and the way your hands are washed with warm water in a copper bowl.....really gets you in the mood for a hearty sumptuous meal!
the names of the chicken, mutton and veg dishes are all tongue twisters...but most of them are delightful wonders, esp for a non keralite.
