This is one of the most authentic Kerala restaurants around Chembur! They have few off the menu items that would take you to Kerala! I've been frequenting this restaurant since I had first tried their Puttu and Chana masala (kadala curry) -delcate breakfast for we Keralites. I suggest you visit here once and try the off menu items if you have the stomach for it! Even the veg dishes here are amazing!

One of the best Kerala restaurants in Chembur. Their buff roast and buff pepper fry with porotta is just an amazing combo.

Like a hidden gem.... This small kerala cuisine heaven hides in plain sight. It has authentic taste and is very affordable. If you want some Mallu spiced dishes head over the Maxim. The ambiance is very modest, and the staff is welcoming. Try it and let me know your thoughts.

Maxim is a no-nonsense, no frills, quintessential road side restaurant that will whip up authentic Kerala dishes at very reasonable rates. It's like you transplanted a restaurant from the busy streets of Kochi to here in Shell Colony. The fish, red meats, chicken are all tasty and reasonably priced. They've done a good job to retain the traditional Kerala flavors. The porotta is soft and has the occasional crispy edge to it. Their snacks (palahaaram) consists of bonda, pazham puri, uzhunu vada, parippu vada are all a feast. They also serve great Sambhaaram (spicy buttermilk infused with ginger and other spices). While they serve vegetarian dishes too it's not their forte. So I'd not recommend this place if you're a vegetarian (unless you're coming here just for the snacks). What I like is if they don't get the right ingredients they choose not to make a dish rather than serve their customers with an inferior dish. Service is usually quick and friendly. Once they get to know you conversation flows freely even with the staff. The owner is an ex-armed forces soldier. They have 5 four seater benches in the ground and an additional few four seater benches on the floor above (that you get to by climbing a 7-10 steep stairs). The top floor is Air conditioned and usually reserved for families. To reiterate, this is not an upscale place but pretty much a tiny roadside restaurant. As the food is good, authentic and cheap you'll find the local crowd flock to the place. So while it wouldn't score high on ambience it will serve you Kerala on a plate.
