Very well prepared dishes. Malvan Katta has a knack for handling seafood. The dishes were perfectly spiced and no raw notes whatsoever. The red chutney was a pleasant surprise. Surmai thali, crab thali, prawns biryani, mutton biryani were all delicious to the palate and comfortable on the tummy. Good value for money as well. Highly recommended for seafood lovers.
This place is just next to my office in vikhroli. Sometimes i visit here during my lunch hours. The food is amazing here. My most favourite from here id Prawns biryani. It is my absolute favourite. Along with the second best from this place is bombil fry. It is yummylicious. Its a must try place.

Loved the taste...especially the fish curry and the Mori Masala. Very authentic and large portion sizes. Only issue is with delivery...as Zomato rarely has delivery boys around that area!
Situated on LBS. Almost at 1.5 km from Vikhroli station. It's a very small place nothing fancy about the ambience. But if u are craving for Malvani food this is the place you go.

It’s old skool, rustic and definitely not a eye candy. The ambience is simple, a typical malvani place with a traditional hand-wash and menu graffiti on the walls 😹. It’s located on LBS Marg, near Vikroli Stn. It’s a no-brainer here to order a thali, chicken or fish. The Surmai thali was good with a huge Surmai fry accompanied by a tangy fish curry. The Wade are typically malvani, the solkadi is just perfect. The food is tasty and this place is no pushover. The bhakri and chapatis are made homemade style. Small outlet and has seating of around 40 people. One might have to wait for few minutes before getting hold of a seat during lunch hours(1 pm - 2:30 pm). Cost effective sea food joint. If you are not a sea food fan it is better to avoid as it specializes in sea food dishes only.
Ordered :
1. Promfret Fry(Small) - It is one of my favorite starter in any sea food joint. Must have in here.
2. Surmai Masala - The size of the fish was medium and tasted quite good.
3. Crab Masala - Whatever you order don't forget to taste one of these. The best dish in here and the masala had the best flavor I have tasted in a long time. We had these dishes with Neer Dosa and Chapati and they were fine.
4. Egg Biryani - The quantity of it was enough to fill ones appetite. Taste is same as like other egg biryani we get in other food joints nothing special in this.
5. Chicken Biryani - Quantity was same as mentioned above for egg. Didn't like this dish that much and it wasn't that good as well better to have an Egg Biryani in this outlet rather than Chicken one.
6. Kokum Kadi - We finished off with this desert and it tasted quite good.
Must visit for ones staying or having office near this outlet and of course you need to be a sea food lover as I have mentioned earlier as well.
This is restaurant is for nonveg loving peoples, every dish contains nonveg best for sea food, I've ate here a chicken wada and much more, it is not expensive, fine restaurant it is, i like the service and the way it serves the food typical maharashtrian konkni style best for sea food dishes.

Quite a decent place which is light on the pocket. Ordered prawns thali, prawns masala,mutton masala and prawns biryani. Prawns masala and mutton masala had the same type of gravy . But mutton was cooked very well; something which even many good restaurants cannot 'achieve' today. Chapatis were very nice too. However Prawn biryani was not something that I would recommend though as it was just some rice and prawns mixed together. Also sol kadi wasnt upto the mark which was more on the sour side. Overall a satisfactory experience(if you dont expect too much) which is light on the pocket.

Tried the mutton thali which was just authentic with perfectly priced filled with loads of Malvan spices in thick mutton gravy, bowl of gravy and rice, couple of bhakari/chapati made up of rice and a bowl of sol Kadhi.

Its a place which is at a walkable distance from vikhroli station, the place serves amazing malvani food, it is a small joint opposite highway and is neat and clean. Don't go there if you are looking for amazing ambience. The food is too good, I tried their prawn thali and their bombil thali. Quantity wise they are big hearted.
One thali can easily be shared by two people of average appetite.
I ordered a pompret fish thali which a big piece of crispy bombil fry along with bombil malvani curry which was yummy and tangy and the fry was crispy. Along with that they give 2 bhakris, which were softer than cotton and solkadi and malvani chutney which was yum.
All in all good food and fish lovers must visit.

This is one of those places where after looking at it you don't want to enter, because you think it might not be as per your expectations. Yes, if you think about the ambience but no if you are thinking about the quality of food and taste. This is one of the best places in Vikhroli to have a authentic malvani food. This is the place to go when you actually don't care about anything other than food taste. I had chicken thali and prawns thali and it really tasted very good. Apart from the kind of solkadi you get here tastes very natural with less added sugars. Overall my rating for this restaurant is as below:

Though Hotel Malvan Katta had been right opposite my home, I somehow never thought of going there. Till one afternoon when hunger struck me too bad and I crossed the road to have some khichdi. I am glad I did!
Its a small hotel more on the lines of a dhaba with a menu of authentic Malvani food. I ordered for a kokum and khichdi. The quantity of food was quite good for the cost. Taste-wise too both kokum and khichdi were good.
I only hoped I had tried it sooner for some good value for money lunches.

Food is fantabulous... Let me correct the name first.. This is Hotel Malvan Katta and not Malvani Katta. This is on LBS Marg Vikhroli once you cross the turning for Vikhroli station (you find it on the left side of the road while going towards Mulund). The seating is just a tad better then a jhunka bakar centre, with basic seating tables numbered around ten .. But mark my words the food and taste is no less than any top seafood malvan restaurant in Mumbai.. They have a wide variety of thalis starting from all regular fish thalies, chicken and mutton.. Then there are all regular fish fry items from bangda to surmai to mandeli to pomfret.. You also get really soft bhakris & tasty kokum..Something which you may not find in other malvan joints is bheja masala fry (which is good). The price is absolutely right for the malvan fare on sale.. The place is mostly frequented by IIT Powai students and the young corporate crowd from the nearby corporate IT parks.. The service is good and the owner is also always there looking after your needs.. Trust me guys, this one is a hidden gem.. At least for the food.

It is a quaint little place located on lbs marg just a walking distance away from vikhroli station. It is quite popular among the office crowd as many establishments are located in the vicinity. Thought I have tasted better malwani food in other places, this place is much affordable and the quantity is good too
The stuffed pomfret was quite fresh, stuffed with green chutney it was the ideal accomplice to the thalis we had. The fried prawns were a bit salty and average tasting
The batter they use for frying stuff need to be improved a lot as its quite tasteless and bland , thanks to fresh fish stuff it is compensated for. The surmai fry thali and chicken fry masala thalis were good. The vadas were tasty too.
But what is really recommended here is the prawns biryani. It was easily the best dish of the evening..Small and consistent chunks of prawns in an aromatic long grained rice preparation was the star of the dinner.
Recommended for sure if you are in the neighborhood and wanting for some reasonable yet tasty malwani food
Small place buzzing with office goers during lunch hours located on lbs Road. We got a place in 10 mins but had to share a table with 2 other people who eventually left... So coming to the food... The mandeli fry was nice and crispy but the batter didn't have any sort of taste. The prawns fry was also crispy and well cooked with a sort of Chinese flavour to the batter. The biryani was a bit spicy, loaded with garam masala but tastes good. Overall pocket friendly place.

One of the best places in vikhroli for Sea Food. I would suggest opting for a thali (they have many options) which is a stomach filling and low on cost. Also if you are visiting here on a Friday do reach early as it get heavily crowded post 8-8.30.
It is a place with simple ambience and close placement of chairs and tables but the food is good and tasty and easy on your pocket. Malvan Katta is located on LBS stretch of Vikhroli on the opposite side of Home Town.
Chicken and fish thalis were ordered, separately bombil fry, bangda fry, crab masala, shimpi masala was ordered. Bombil fry was superb. Bangda fry had a smokey taste - something different. All items were very spicy and had coconut grated into the masala.
The bill for 7 adults and 3 children below 12 years came to just about Rs.1,600/- for a full-fledged dinner and some extras.
For the kind of money that they charge, the food is absolute value for money.

Had visited Home Town in Vikhroli yesterday.. After shopping was looking for some good place to eat. After a little bit of hunting came across this small quaint restaurant. Initially i was hesitant, but went ahead and sat across a small table. It is a small place but there was no crowd even after being a sunday evening. Ordered Chicken sukka thali for myself and ghavane with vatana usal for my wife. Chicken was spicy but tasty. Also quantity was good. overall the food was really very good and as expected. Price was resonable. staff was polite and courteous. Would love to visit this place again with friends and family.

If good food came in simple packages, then this restaurant is a classic example. Small, very basic set up. You are bound to get upset by the wash basin and they don't give you finger bowl. You have cramped seating to ensure more people can sit and eat. The annoyance ends there! The moment the food arrives, you tend to let go the things which bothered you a while ago. Hot bhakri, tasty and spicy chicken biryani or the prawns masala thali...all are tasty to say the least. Top it with sol kadi or bombil fry. Well I wish their bombil or bombay duck fish was bigger and thicker. Yet the small servings won't disappoint you as much. I have visited this restaurant at least 10 times in last 6 months or so. And every time I think about eating some good food, I think about this eatery! But remember it's strictly maharashtrian coastal food joint. Keep all your Italian, Continental and American food habit behind including the spoons and the forks.
Don't draw your impression by the looks of this restaurant. It looks a bit chaaloo set up, its is good enough to take your family and it doesn't serve alcohol too, so that makes it fit for family dining... The food is amazing. Must try is surmai fry and kolambi sukka...bhakri is amazing too.And in terms of value for money, its a spot on deal.
Its a medium cost malvan eatery. Though the setting isn't that great, don't get dissuaded by the set up. It offers, really good bhakri, prawn masala thali, sol kadi and biryani in malvan style. Average cost per person is approx. 200-250 rupees.
Impressed. The taste of Malvan, spicy fish and chicken made my day. The chicken lollipop was softer. I had expected to be much solid. The fish made you go to Malvan in your imagination. Awesome taste. A must go for all the Malvan food lovers.

You should definitely visit the place if you are a fan of authentic malavni cuisine. The fried bombay duck will melt in your mouth. Coconut rich curry of Surmai fish was perfect. Eating it with bhakri makes it a great combination. Overall very good experience!

The food is quite good and mouth watering. For sea food lover this place is for you guys as the name of the place itself says malwan Katta. They serve fresh fishes e.g. surmai, bangdu, bombil, crab prawns both in gravy curry and fried too. They serve fish thali of the desired fish you want. I would recommend go for mandli fry for starters and for main course go for surmai and crab also bombil fry was mouth watering. Solkadhi tastes the best. They also serve chicken and mutton. Both in gravy and thali. You have options to eat. They serve soft drinks as well. Place is quite small but is usually crowded and quantity and quality is excellent. If you know the taste of fresh pomfret then this is the place to go for that fresh taste of pomfret. Its a go to place for me when I crave for a good fish. The only missing is they could serve a nice green chutney with raw mango as it is in season. Which would go best with all the fried starters.
