Try out their yummy and soft ghee idlis, masala dosa, medu wadas. Also, one cannot miss their kesari bhat which is nothing but Kesar sheera or halwa made in pure ghee topped with nuts, saffron and a dash of cardamon.
An absolute paisa vasool place with decent seating and drooling platter.

Do not get swayed by the negative reviews. This is one of the few non- frills tiffin rooms that you must visit if you want to taste authentic Masala dosas and Idlis. Hugely pouplar amongst the locales it is almost always crowded. The basic seating arrangement can be ignored because of the great taste. Go there only if you are willing to have a great gastronomic experience. We also had Poori Palya and found it equally good. Highly recommended.

Typical South Indian breakfast joint. Self-service and limited seating. Gets packed so you might have to stand and eat. Standard idli-dose-vada-sambar-bisibelebath fare that you get all over Karnataka.
We ordered a masala dose and plain dose. Typical crunchy-outside & soft-inside Kannada style dosas. Extra charge for a dollop of Benne on top.
Masala Dose was tasty, perfectly golden and crunchy. (4/5), but definitely not as good as the spectacular dosa at Vinayak Mylari.
Potato pallya stuffing was tasty and correctly spiced with onions & curry leaves. Chutney was outstanding- coconut+chilli and coriander. The sambar was forgettable and not perfectly balanced. It was more sweet than sour.
Plain dose (4/5) was also good.
We ended the meal with filter coffee (3/5)
Verdict : Pop in and out for a quick delicious breakfast. Place is self-service but there is staff to clear tables. Cleanliness has scope for improvement. Tables were not wiped down well & were very sticky.

I wanted a place for quick fix breakfast which is authentic as well. So as soon as I landed in Mysore we went to Gayathri Tiffin Room. Thought of Vinayaka Mylari but as I’ve already been there, which was an experience by itself, we selected GTR this time.

GTR was quite near to railway station and the early morning Mysore roads leading to it were wide and free from traffic, bliss by its own. The morning crowd was limited to localites and people who are aware of the restaurant.

We ordered one Plain Dosa, one Masala Dosa, Carrot Halwa and Coffee. Dosa was true to taste and worked well with spicy chutney. Carrot Halwa was freshly prepared for us and was terrific with adequate sweetness. The joy of eating hot halwa knew no bounds. Obviously we’d have to end it with a hot cuppa steaming filter coffee. In all, a tasty and totally VFM restaurant.

I was recommended this place by one of the localite for breakfast and I am so glad he did. Its very small place and very crowded due to the quality of food and hygiene. We orderd for idli wada masala dosa and bissi bele bath. Everything that we ordered was extremely delicious. Bissi bele baath is literally to die for. Even the dosa was so crisp and so buttery. Their sambhar is probably the best I have ever had . The food is so authentic and great quality. If at all u r in mysore , please try this place , u ll not b disappointed .

One of the best Masala Dosa in Mysuru! Although it doesn't have the usual Red Chutney, it tastes amazing!

We also tried Idly Vada, Kesari Bath and Coffee. All were equally good. Only thing is that it's kinda pricey - I didn't expect ₹50 for a plate of Idly Vada, and that too in Mysuru.

But it's worth the visit for the Masala Dosa!

This place is known to have a legacy of it's own for serving some real good South Indian Food. I happened to visit this place on a Sunday (late) Morning for breakfast, when the restaurant was about to close and I was just in time. The owner/cashier was kind enough to let me order, even though he was very well in his right to deny me service since it was about to close.

The moment you enter, you're supposed to order at the cash counter, pay for the food and take the receipt. You then have to give the receipt to another counter (which generally has a queue) and get your food from there. Pretty much self service. Although the people cleaning the tables are prompt.

Even though the restaurant was nearing the closing time, it was pretty crowded. I had Butter Masala Dosa, a Coffee and Gajar Halwa. The food was really good and tasted amazing. Talking of the prices as per Mysore's cost standards, I'd say it's a tad bit costly but the price comes with the name and the experience.

Recommended to visit at least once.

Hotel Location:

Located at just a stone’s throw from Chamundipuram Circle.

About Parking:

Finding a parking for a two wheeler on this road shall not be a problem, but for a car, plenty of space near the circle.

About Restaurant:

I was here on a weekend for evening coffee and snacks.

We had ordered Bhel Puri, Mangalore Bhajjis and coffee.

I felt the taste has taken a back seat since my last visit to the same restaurant or could be one of a kind of this. The Bhajjis tasted very good since it is made to order and served steaming HOT.

I personally felt the service provided in their GTR DELITE, the Service wing in GTR has gone down, no thrust given to the cleanliness of the tables and chairs.

Next time would visit this place exclusively for Dosa.

A small hotel in mysore, read the reviews and on friends suggestion visited this place. Went there for the dosas but loved the khara bath. I felt, the dosas(plain, masala and onion uttappa) were just about ok. There was no 'wow' factor in the taste. I'd rate khara bath higher in taste than the dosas. The chutney was good. They have installed RO purifier for water which is good for a small hotel. The coffee was alright. Overall, I had something like VB of bangalore in mind which obviously disappoints me. Khara bath - thumbs up !

Gayatri Tiffin Room or GTR as it is popularly known as, is one of those old and legendary restaurants in Mysore known for its delicious breakfasts and tiffins.

Located on Narayana Sasthri Road in Chamundipuram past Nanju Malige circle its close to the JLB Road in Chamundipuram.

When i first visited this place it kinda reminded me of our NAMMA MTR (coz i am a hardcore typical Bangalorean :D) to such an extent that its closed on Monday's just like MTR :P but then it is nothing like our MTR.

It is definitely one of the better restaurants in Mysuru, known for its Dosas which really isnt worth all that worth, YES they are good, delicious even but not really up to the mark as to how they are described.

The Sambar here is different and is kinda typical brahmin types with Mangalore Sauthekai being their specialty which tastes pretty good to be honest.

The Idly Sambar are the go to tiffin here ( not a fan of the Vada here) and the dosas, upma and kesaribath. The upma and kesaribath are very homely types and taste exceptionally good ( these are my favorites here ).

And then of course there are the famous dosas - Masala Dosa and Plain dosa with Saagu are a must try.

I have been in Mysore for about an year now and how the chutney tasted an year back, it is not the same so i am guessing it used to be much better and upto the standards it was hyped to about.

But then definitely one of the better places for a Sunday breakfast or tiffin on any other day for that matter.

And yeah do not forget to have the coffee here, definitely the best filter coffee in Mysore for sure.

If there would be a COLLECTION of restaurants for Mysore, it would definitely classify as one of the LEGENDARY ones. GTR, one of those restaurants one has to visit when in Mysore.

Very glad to write a review for GTR. This is the place we frequented lot of times as my college NIE was near by. This is just the kind of place you want to go for eating dosas. Difficult to give 4.0 rating as my heart don't allow. But over the time it getting touched by modernization....

I grown up in the surrounding places of GTR...my mother used to take me after her office hours and my grandfather used to take me for his coffee with his friends in evenings after my tutions ...and I used to come and have my break fast in my early morning classes of my collage time ... But over the time quality is getting hit.

When you are in Mysore and want to eat awesome south indian snacks, look no further and head straight to GTR. This is one among the very few restaurants which has survived modernization (any old timer from mysore can vouch for this fact).
This place is invariably a part of our itinerary whenever we go to Mysore; the plan is never complete without a visit to this legendary place.

What I have experienced this place to be famous for: Their crispy Masala/Plain dosas, shavige bhath and their coffee, apart from their old school ambiance. (I have tried their khara bhath occasionally but, honestly have had better).

Location: Nestled in the residential locality of Chamundipuram in Mysore, this place is an actual landmark and the testimony to it's fame is the fact that there are a lot of repeat customers here.

Our Visit: So, while we were there last weekend, we went it by 4 PM and ordered for all our favorites - the plain dosa, the masala dosa, shavige bhath and coffee.

While the masala dosas were nice and roasted, the plain needed to be roasted a little more, but tasted absolutely divine. The shavige bhath was served with raitha instead of chutney (unlike in Bangalore) and consisted of vegetables and grated coconut. After these were polished off in no time, we decided to go for the "shtrong filter coffee" that we were craving for.

Ambience: Very simple, no frills. (Luckily for us, the torrential rains added to the charm and we could enjoy our food much more than always!)

Taste: Top Class!

Value for Money: Total VFM..Very Highly Recommended.

Gayathri Tiffin Room (GTR), Chamundipuram, Mysore

If you ask Mysoreans to list 10 restaurant names then I think GTR will be one among them! This is one of the oldest restaurant in Mysore popularly known for its 'Masala Dosa'

But goodthing is unlike 'Mylari', they are not limited to just dosas, they have kharabath, kesaribath, poori, other versions of dosas like 'Soppina Dose' which are getting equally popular nowadays.

People will be eager and more excited to receive the dosa after taking the token just like we used to hold our hands outside the temple for 'prasada' in our childhood days! 😀 But only difference here is you have stretch your hands after the paying the money!

Well talking about the taste, yes dosa served here is unique compared to other places as the dosa is very crisp and thick. You can actually feel little grains as the batter is not grinded nicely which may give different feeling while you eat. This place is not new to me but it didn't excite me anytime though. The dosa here is very oily and oil is not blended well with the dosa like Mylari or Davanagere Benne Dose and that's the problem! So wash your hands well after eating that.

I had Chow Chow Bath which is nothing but combination of Kharabath and Kesaribath. Kharabath was good to eat but I felt they would have used less amount of onions. Nothing to write about kesaribath as it wasn't exciting

Many people will still like this place and yes if you like dosa to be crisp & can tolerate unblended oil then you are in the right place.

GTR popularly known as Vidyarthi Bhavan of Mysore! Is it worth of all those hype? If I answer being a Bangalorean it will be "No" and if I answer in the view of Mysorean it will be "Yes". Let me explain,

The one who tasted Masal Dosa in CTR, Vidyarthi Bhavan, MTR would absolutely rate this restaurant below 2.5 or 3. But if you consider restaurants in and around Mysore, GTR definitely scores above 3.5

AMBIANCE: It appears like they have recently renovated first floor to serve north indian & south indian meals. But they have succeeded in preserving the old ambiance at ground floor where they serve south indian breakfast (especially Masal Dosa). Tables and chairs reminds you 60's. They have a separate wing which is dedicated for women. Apart from that, they have a vast serving desk. Somehow, the ambiance gets you to the old times.

SERVICE: Its quick. Since I visited this restaurant as soon as it opened in the evening, crowd was really less. So, they managed to serve very quickly. I'm not sure whether the service will like that only even during crowded hours.

FOOD: I ordered Masal Dosa, which was just good. I think, I went there with high expectation. I must admit, at the first bite I was bit disappointed. But however, convinced myself and finished it off. I didn't gave any thought for having another dosa.

Dosa they prepare here will be soft and crispy at the same time. But it is more like home made dosa rather than being a typical "Hotel Dosa". However, taste doesn't disappoints you.

EVERYTHING ELSE: Though the complete kitchen is not visible from dining area, I got a glimpse of it. Its too dark and walls are oily. Hygiene is a real concern in here. Parking is not a problem. Google Map will lead you exactly to its location. They serve Dosa till 10.30AM & post 4PM only.

FINAL VERDICT: You can give it a try! But don't compare it Bangalore's legendary restaurants.

Gayathri Tiffin Room or GTR is the most familiar name for traditional Mysore style breakfast. I had been here almost a year ago while coming from Gopalaswamy Betta. We were supposed to go to another legendary breakfast place, but one of the localities suggestions, we en route towards GTR.
As soon as I entered inside I noticed so many middle aged folks with a cup of coffee. These things gave me positive impression about the place. While going here I was checking about the place and saw beautiful blog posts of the GTR and the dishes to order!
We ordered Ghee Roast, Rava Dosa and Idly Vada Chutney. Ghee Roast was excellent and truly appealing with aromas of Ghee and especially chutney was too lip-smacking! Idly was fluffy and piping hot, heavenly feeling of Idly lovers like me. I did not like the Rava Dosa for some reason and a couple of my friends like their Carrot Halwa and Kesari Bath!
Our breakfast finished with a Cup of Strong coffee.
Bill was around 400 INR for 5 people, which is quite nominal isn’t it?
Restaurant owner realized that we had come from Bangalore, so he was quite courteous and polite. He welcomes everyone with his attentive smile. I enjoyed my breakfast at GTR and highly recommended place at Heritage City of Karnataka. I would love to visit again!

Whenever it is that I talk about inflation I point out to the fact that I could buy a plate of 2 idlis and 1 vada for a cool 8 bucks in a decent, typical Bangalore-sit-down, beside-the-bus stand hotel. Those prices aren't coming back. The decor of GTR, till very recently, did. Have been there almost on every visit to Mysore.
The idlis here have that grainy, home made feel to them. And the chutney is the types that you'd wanna have even after the idlis are done with.
I will give up everything that I have and can for a good Masala Dosa. The one at GTR will surely get me thinking. Has that perfect blend of being soft and crispy.
Had heard a lot about the proper way to savour 'chow chow' bath. Fell in love with it at GTR. The secret, that I was so ignorant about, is to have a small dollop of both the Khara and kesri bath together. Oh heavenly.
Why not a 5? That's coz they have redone the look of the place, stealing me of my nostalgia.

GTR is a superb eatery. I only had time to check out breakfast. And with my family, I tried Masala Dose, Rava Dose, Vada, Uppittu, Kesari Bath & Coffee. Masala Dose was superb. Dose was crisp at the edges and thick & soft at the centre. Chutney was superb. Uppittu was very good.
Rava dose could have been thinner. I felt it was too thick.
Kesari Bath was not good. It was dry and sticky.
Coffee was just about nice....
And all this came at not so expensive charge. Hence, the taste was much better!!
Overall a wonderful breakfast experience....

Can't believe I'm the first one to write a review on this! This is mysore's legendary hotel known for it's breakfast. Those melting idlis, masala n saagu dosas( with chutney) and carrot Halva are the most delicious menus. (sambar not available) Any citizen of mysore (especially senior citizens) will be familiar of this place. Ppl who visit chamundi hills will head back to GTR for breakfast. :-) prices r reasonable. Rs 150 for 2.

Gayatri Tiffin Room (GTR) in Mysore offers a delightful experience for vegetarian food enthusiasts. The open masala dosa, poori, and filter coffee stand out as must-try items, showcasing the restaurant's culinary strengths. The interior, while generally neat, shows signs of wear and tear. Adequate parking is available, though it can get crowded. Despite the positive aspects, I found the place somewhat overhyped. While the food was satisfying, the overall experience didn't fully live up to the heightened expectations. Nonetheless, GTR remains a solid choice for those seeking traditional South Indian vegetarian cuisine in Mysore.

Great Coffee. Masala Dosa was nice in its own way.. I guess. Although nothing unique or standing out per sey. Their Upma is good actually. Easier to get seats on a sunday morning 7-8 am. Parking for 2 wheelers available.

I recently visited Gayatri Tiffin Rooms, and it was a delightful experience overall. The place opened right at 7 am, which was perfect for an early breakfast. I had the pleasure of trying their mouthwatering idli, Masala Dosa, Kesari bath, tea, and coffee. The idli and Masala Dosa were absolutely delightful, bursting with authentic flavors. The Kesari bath was a perfect blend of sweetness and texture, leaving me craving more. The ambiance of the place was pleasant, creating a comfortable dining experience. However, I did encounter some inconvenience with parking as the space for four-wheelers was limited. So, I would recommend arriving early to secure a parking spot. Though the poori and vada were not available during my visit, the other dishes compensated for it. However, I must admit that the taste of the tea and coffee was not up to par, and I felt the quantity was a bit limited. Despite these minor setbacks, I highly recommend Gayatri Tiffin Rooms for their fantastic idli and Masala Dosa alone, and I look forward to trying their other dishes in the future.

This is one of the legendary hotels in Mysuru and it lives up to the expectations. The atmosphere itself is a feel good factor. It's a self service place. Coming to food, Idli vada Sambar and chutney were amazing combination. Benne masale dose with sliding butter was very different and tasted great. Aloo palya was good too. Coffee is not to be missed.

An iconic eatery in a quiet locality in Mysuru. Worth a visit. All the traditional breakfast, evening tiffin items such as masala dosa, idly, uppuma, rava kesari is served in stainless steel plates. Chutney and sambar too are served id adequate quantity. Tasty and hospitable service. If in Mysuru, one should not miss.

Whenever I travel to Mysore from chennai, I use to visit this hotel. Food quality and taste is good , prices are reasonable. Service needs to be improved. Ques are getting formed in billing and take away counter. Dine in tables are also limited. Right time to visit is 7-8am to avoid ques and quick breakfast. Open butter masala podi dosa is ultimate.

The food was good in taste, they have maintained the authenticity of their dishes, Benne Masala Dosa, Idli and Aloo Bonda was really good in taste. Recommend to have Dosa here whenever you visit Mysore. No table service only self service. Coffee is better than tea here.

So we visited this place today after looking for a breakfast place in Mysore when we reached the city early in the morning and GTR popped up in our search as they open sharp at 7 am. We reached the place before it opened and waited till the shutter went up. We were one of those who waited for them to open, we ordered idli, masala dosa and kesari bath. The place in terms of cost is reasonable and cheap. We had all three items along with tea and spent around Rs. 120/person. This place will give you a feel of those old traditional restaurants which are well maintained and the food served there makes one more than satisfied. This is a self service restaurant - so head to the counter before you head to your seat, and parking here can be a bit tricky to find.

I strongly recommend you to have Open Butter Masala Dosa🤤🤤🤤in this eatery. It is a self service based place. They didn't take much time to serve the food It feels bliss to have your masala dosa or green dosa with fliter coffee in the Morning after a long walk. By the way i am from Mangalore 😁😁😁 Peace out✌️✌️✌️✌️

Loved this place. The cashier was very friendly. The crowd is mostly regulars who are sipping a cup of coffee over chit chat. Ordered idli, benne masala dose and coffee. All of them were really good. Highly recommended.

Amazing place for authentic food. Must visit if in Mysore. Place gets crowded and it becomes difficult to find parking or a place to sit. Service speed is decent. Visit it in early hours to avoid rush if possible. Place is located in a silent place with the greenary around.
