This was highly recommended by a close friend and on a recent trip, we made it here for lunch.
This is a pure veg. Madhawa Brahmin style eatery and is a small unpretentious space that is neat and functional.
They have thoughtfully kept a few tables outside the main dining hall and reason is inside the main inner hall, it is literally a sit down dining! Cross legged on the floor kinda of space. I guess all the nimble yogis in the area are entirely at home here and I did struggle a wee bit, before I did a more comfortable variation of floor sitting! Ha
The USP though is the amazing food, served on a clean banana leaf. The menu changes frequently, but I loved what ever I ate and special mention to the sweets (semiya payasam and ubbatu) and the stir fries. One might think the food is borderline bland and I have to agree, items like the sambhar for instance, seemed to be held back a little bit in the flavour department, just a hint of spice, could have enhanced it so much more.
But on the whole very good.
Service is super efficient and friendly.

Wowza! The food here was simple, tasty and ever do satisfying! It was served on a banana leaf and was to be eaten by hand! Made it an even more eventful and memorable lunch for us. Definitely visit if you're in Mysore! Place is going to surprise you with its stature, but the food will be worth it.
Went to Mysore for spending a weekend and had lunch at Anima.
Traditional Delicious food served on banana leaf. Service is good too and all the items are served quickly.
Food -> 4.5 / 5
Service -> 5/5
Cleanliness -> 4/5
Ever feel like having home made meals, but don't want to take the effort of cooking, this is the place to go. They even deliver meals to your house. So go for it, manne oota in namma Mysuru.
If you like south indian no onion no garlic food, this is the place to go. Quiet location. Nice seating arrangement. Waiters were very efficient and quick. Must try atleast once. I felt it was slightly high priced.
Simple delicious vegeterian fare served on a banana leaf ...yum yum :) We would have missed it cause the entrance is non descript . Courteous staff ,simple homelike food
Best oota I have had in Mysore. The food is mindbogglingly tasty and heavy. My stomach almost burst out after eating so much and I still did not feel like stopping.
Nice place for lunch. Food served on banana leaves. Delicious and adequate food, but can be slightly more spicy. Good for South Indian meal lovers. Ambiance also quite good. They have tables, as well as low lying tables with mats. Service is good, but slightly slow. Overall experience quite good.
Finding this place was a pleasant surprise for us. We're tourists in Mysore and wanted to experience some simple, authentic local cuisine. Anima Madhva Bhavan gives you just that. It's an extremely reasonable prepaid thali served on banana leaf and all guests eat sitting down on narrow mattresses. All guests face each other and there is this community feeling which is usually absent from proper sit-down places. The food is a no frills affair with a chance to taste a little bit of everything. I especially enjoyed the black chana with coconut shavings sabzi, rasam, sweet roti and papadam. The servers are warm and almost always coax you into taking an extra serving.
What could be improved is their Zomato description as it is incomplete.
On the whole, it was memorable experience and highly recommend this place to those who are visiting Mysore and want to try some good food!
Madhava Bhavan is a place known for traditional South Indian 'Yele Oota' (lunch served on banana leaf).
Visited here with friends for a lunch and order habba oota. The food started with sweet payasam (milk and vermicelli sweet dish) followed up with 2 types of Kosambari salads, 'Saasam' (a traditional mangalorean spiced pineapple/mango chutney) 2 veggies, chapati, holige, rice, sambar, rasam, butter milk and sweet.
The food tastes good to average.. I mean the taste is balanced but not delightful..
The service staff is always dressed in traditional coastal dressing of shirt and panche. The seating is arranged on floor with mattresses to sit on and low height table to dine on.. Its clean and humble looking interiors with traditional South Indian mellow music playing all the time.
The pricing is reasonable...
Its visited by locals and tourists alike as the food suits all types of palates and gives a feel of traditional South Indian dining experience.
Ratings:
1. Location: A 4.5 Right on KD Road, it sees lot of foot falls of shopper and tourists.
2. Ambiance: A 4 Homely is how I would describe the interiors...
3. Food: a 3.5.. A simple tasting food, that does leave some cravings unfulfilled.
4. Service: A 3.5.. just simple serving like in a traditional South Indian wedding....
5. Price: A 4.. Reasonable for the quantity and variety served....
One of the best Brahmin style, vegetarian lunch served on the plantain leaf.
Their raddish palya was just amazing. Added to it was the usual "gun powder" mixed with plain rice and ghee tasted yummy.
On the dessert they served rava payasa, was tasting good. Along with obbattu, which was good.
They seating are of two types. Inside is on the floor and outside is the regular chaired types.
Why is this place rated only 3.3 on zomato as I write this? It's a lovely place. Great ambience. Unlimited thali for an affordable price. The traditional way. I'd go back.
Homely place with food that is close to your heart. The place to go to if you need simple , tasty comfort food. The Thali eaten on plantain leaves is the highlight here.
Food- 4/5

This is the kind of restaurant you would probably have seen in the 60s. The only difference being that this place is clean, has a very homely ambiance with a very rustic feel to it. If you like vegetarian food, you will LOVE this!! The food comes thick and fast though so if you plan to have a long chat with friends over a meal, this is probably not the place to go. A place which gives you exactly what it promises - a good gastronomical experience.
Excellent food. Excellent service. Excellent concept. The only authentic restaurant serving healthy Brahmin food in Mysore. They have no branches.
Good restaurant
It is a sit down place
Need to remove your footwear to enter
Great food without the use of onions and garlic
A must for every vegetarian
Very nice authentic South Indian Meal... Happy with the servings.. unlimited food for just Rs.125/- thumbs up for the cleanliness... worth paying...
Hotel Location:
Located in VV Mohalla, very close to Yadavagiri.
This restaurant is situated in a quaint little corner of Mysore in a residential area on the second and third floor. So make sure that if you are accompanying any elderly citizens, this could be disadvantage.
About Parking:
Ample parking place on the road as it is primarily a residential area.
About Restaurant:
I was here on a weekend for Lunch, had heard a lot about this place from a friend in Mysore. Don’t go with any high expectations, you will be served with a typical Mysore plantain leaf vegetarian meal.
Soon after you remove your shoes, you can be comfortable and choose the place you would like to sit, later the service starts with a Plaintain leaf, followed by Salt, Payasam (Soji payasa), Palya (Radish+Coconut), Vegetable Sagu, Chapathis, Rice, Sambar, Rasam, Curds, Papad, Pickle. You can have any amount of servings, almost all items we tasted were very good.
My suggestion to the management is that they can consider ending up this meal with a Pan using the famous Mysore betel leaves.
About Staff:
Absolutely no non sense kind, responsible, customer oriented.
They did not mind for serving multiple times whenever we requested for. Kudos to the entire team, keep up the good work.
Overall:
I would highly recommend a meal here while in Mysore.
Excellent food. Excellent service. Excellent taste. Excellent concept. A big thumbs-up! There is more one thing that stands out at this place. They are one of the the pioneers of health food restaurants where there is no sign of any artifical ingredients, MSG or baking soda in rice. The excellent quality of rice is apparent when you relish it alone with the the mouth watering Brahmin Rasam and vegetable Sambar. Yumm! And yet, it is so affordable. They should really consider hiking the prices considering the fact that even a cappuccino would cost more than the full course healthy meal here.
If we were staying at Mysore, we would stop cooking at home.
