Tegu Mess as the name suggest is a mess that serves some lip smacking Maratha Cuisine. The restaurant is pretty small with steel tables and chairs, so the ambience is out of the question here. However, the food is amazing and to die for!
If you are a spice lover you will love the dishes here, although they are famous for their pepper chicken chops & mutton chops. I am more fond of their chilli chicken chops, like I said, it’s tear up spicy, the chilli chicken chops and their fluffy Idly are match made in heaven, just divine. Many of their customers love to pair their spicy gravies with their ghee rice too, however my favourite combo from here is the Idly with the Chilli Chicken Chops.
The restaurant opens as early as 6 AM to serve these non veg delicacies, if you are hear in the morning, don’t forget to ask for their complimentary leg soup, it’s super refreshing and rich.
Overall the food experience here is one of the best you can get in Mysore, just amazing stuff!
Tegu’s Mess is one of the restaurant that serves authentic Kannada cuisine such as Ragi Muddhe and Mutton Saaru (Curry). Due to its high levels of protein and iron, this is considered to be a heavy but healthy meal. The curries are spicy and thick and have a generous portion of meat. The flavour of the meat is blended with the spices that make almost all the ingredients important for cooking. Other well-known combinations are Neer Dosa, Idlis and Ghee rice with your choice of curries.
If you're looking for a place with old-school Ragi muude and chicken kurma then this is it. Note that this place is always crowded so better order via app or take parcel
The quality of food is very good, hands down one of the best and old places in Mysore
Mr. Shyam & his father at Tegu Mess are very customer friendly. I luv ragi mudde and chilly chicken...and its gravy..it’s just out of the world experience in taste!! Even people who serve you also customer centric. They remember what you order regularly and will serve you without waiting!!
What an amazing place to satisfy your morning non veg cravings. This restaurant changed my perception towards Paya soup I always thought that paya soup will have lil bit of gaminess but here not even sign of that. We ordered Paya soup with idli and as side mutton and chicken. I must say chicken has different flavour due to capsicum and mutton was on different level it was so soft that u don’t need chew or put effort in separating meat from bones. In a single word place this place awesome .
Sunday better go before 7 am for Paya soup 🍜
Really asowme for authentic south indian food with non veg curries. Really super one. Space is small but taste is super. From breakfast to dinner best taste.
This is not a fancy place - looks like a small family run eatery ... but when it comes to their curries, there is no match.. Went for breakfast and ordered dosa, idly with a chicken dish, a mutton dish, a fish dish ... Had gone there for breakfast... this one is surely one of the most delicious desi non veg breakfast I had in recent times ..
Aaahh Tegu mess!! It's one of those places that's been there as long as you can remember. Best place to eat breakfast when you're hungover. The Idlis with chicken would be your first thing to try here. The chicken gravy though oily has an authentic taste that's not changed over years. Kaal(leg) Soup is moderate. Mutton chops is the winner as its cooked exactly to the point. When it's comes to lunch. The place is packed as they have a small place. Wait for 5 mins. Don't go with a huge group. Asked for mixed meals if you're a confused soul. The owner is a down to earth simple guy and will have a good conversation with you. Overall best authentic food. Period.

One of the best joint for Nati style nonveg food dishes, it is one the mess run by their family.. it may look like a small cozy place but nothing can be compromised with their food taste. Taste - 5/5, ambiance 5/5, worth for money - 5/5, quantity 5/5,quality 4/5. Its famous for kal soup, koli sar, mutton and chicken gravy with bisi bisi idli and dosa(until 11.30 in the morning) . chicken, mutton and fish meals are amazing.. rice is unlimited.. meal contains - Ragi mudde, mutton and chicken gravy, ghee rice, chicken or mutton or fish curry, plain rice, rasam, curd, butter milk..
It was after a good friend recommended that I chanced upon here. Located in VV Mohalla, this small place is everything you would expect a non-veg mess to be! While it's famous for its thalis and meals, I didn't quite have the appetite to brave one of those when I went there this evening.
Instead I went for a plate of Neer dose and Mutton chops followed by Mallige Idly with Pepper Chicken. Imagine my delight when I saw they served it with three types of gravy - pepper chickens' gravy, fish curry gravy and mutton sherwa! The mutton was absolutely delectable! The fish curry finished a closed second: almost like Mangalorean curry with a local twist! I was too tempted to try their Mutton Palav (which was basically Chicken Palav rice with mutton chops' pieces) but did with just a tiny bowl-full which the staff was kind enough to give complimentary! The Pepper Chicken, however, I might say is something you can avoid. My total bill came up to ₹ 270 which is good value for money!
The best experience of this place is however the hospitality of the staff! It was probably the first time in days, since I've been away from home, that I felt like I am being looked after with care! The staff and the owner himself are extremely courteous and polite and they definitely look forward to making their patrons eat!
I had a great dinner at Tegu Mess and I am definitely coming here, probably in the afternoon to try their Ragi Mudde meals!
Cheers!

This Legendary restaurant is famous for its nati(local) style of non veg food. Visited this place in the afternoon. Luckily got place! They serve amazing homemade non veg food. There’s no fixed menu.
I Ordered mutton oota and chilly chicken for my lunch! I could sense perfect Maharashtrain taste here! It was delicious. Chilly chicken was excellent. Meals contains unlimited white rice, rasam, curd, mutton serva, mutton chops.
It is usually busy and congested. Staffs are very welcoming and cooperative.
I am visiting this place since I am a kid . They have made their mark in Mysore. They serve delicious and homely food . Their service is really good . They serve the best mutton and chicken curry . Visited Tegu mess. I guess I was early for lunch. Mudde wasn't ready. Though I wanted to wait, the waiter coerced me not to wait. Tried ghee rice with chicken as per the waiter's suggestion. Tasted good. Surprisingly the quantity of ghee rice felt less even for a light eater like me. Prices were on the higher side.
Its a specific Nonveg Mess, quantity served is sufficient for one person. So price also looks less, we went for dinner , dishes was very limited for dinner was disappointed, for lunch options are more, taste wise i cont tell its yummy, its ok ok type. So if u r planning to visit this mess then lunch will be better option than dinner.
I am a Mangalorean 😄and when i visited Mysuru😁 i had my first breakfast here in this place, i had mutton chops and idle🤤🤤, it was 220 rs in total. In one word it was good not great. But still i would like to give 4 stars.
When ever I visit Mysore, I visit this place for breakfast was too yummy and delicious. I have tried 3 times breakfast the food was so yummy. Breakfast morning started with non-veg mutton chop’s, boti curry and gee rice and paya soup was so good.
We went there on a Sunday for lunch at noon. The place is located on a first floor. The ambience is very unassuming and homely. There are long tables with chairs. Pictures of gods, celebrities on the walls. The kitchen is visible and kept clean. The lunch menu was just about ready and we could get all the delicious smells to work up our appetite.
The owner himself was sitting and having lunch when we arrived. He understood that we weren’t regular customers and was extremely helpful in getting us seated, explaining the menu, interpreting our requests to staff and overall making us feel comfortable.
It is a non veg special mess and vegetarian’s won’t find much (in fact anything) to eat here. The food started rolling out. We started with pepper chicken and idly, then beer dosa, mutton chops, chilli chicken. Finally ending with ghee rice, rassam and curd. They also served extra gravy of chicken and mutton in bowls. Everything was delicious and had unique flavours. The curries were light and flavourful. Pepper chicken had a nice mild heat from the black pepper that warms the throat. The chilli chicken is Maratha style and is nicely spicy. Mutton chops were tender. The rassam and curd helped washing everything down. The owner made sure that we were taken care of, he kept the curry pots on our table for us help ourselves as much as we want.
Slowly the place started getting filled with local and regular people. There were a few people who got tiffins and containers with them to take parcel home. They also had mutton meatballs on the menu but they weren’t ready by the time we were done, May be next time. They have specials frequently and use a variety of cuts.
The bill was very reasonable for the amount and quality of food we had. The owner was very polite and kind. He didn’t even charge for curd, rassam etc. We have our compliments to him and the kitchen staff and left planning our next visit when we will be Mysuru again.
Known to be one of the most recommended places to try Karnataka-style chicken and mutton meals, I tried their "Thatte idli, Shavige" along with pepper chicken and chili chicken. The idli was incredibly soft and complemented the chicken gravy perfectly. Unlike the usual idli with a slightly sour taste, this one was plain, allowing it to effortlessly blend with the curry. Trying this combination for the first time, I found it delightful. The ottu shavige, which are essentially steamed rice noodles, were also exceptionally tender. We arrived for breakfast around 10:30, but unfortunately, the Dosa had sold out by then. They offer mutton options including "thale mamsa" and "botti" (intestine). However, their seating capacity is very limited and quite congested, with tables and steel stools arranged in three rows. Due to the confined space, it can feel quite crowded.
The way up the restaurant through the compact stairs is messy but it's a 42 year old premise where Dadi's secret recipe boils and cooks and the result is just fab - authentic spices and a taste that you would not be keen to relate with any other restaurant. If you are a non veg lover you would not like to miss this place when in Mysore.
Tegu Mess in Mysore is undeniably the best destination for non-vegetarian cuisine enthusiasts. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with an inviting atmosphere and warm hospitality. The menu boasts an impressive array of mouthwatering non-veg dishes that cater to every palate.
Their chicken and mutton preparations are absolutely sensational – tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Whether you savor the mutton chops , the rich curries, or the delectable idli, every bite is a burst of culinary delight.
What sets Tegu Mess apart is not just the exceptional food but also the generous portions and reasonable prices. It's a great value for money. The service is efficient, and the staff is attentive, ensuring a memorable dining experience.
Whether you're a local or a tourist in Mysore, Tegu Mess is a must-visit for those craving authentic, non-vegetarian Indian cuisine. It's a gastronomic journey that leaves you planning your next visit even before you've left the table. Highly recommended!"
One of the oldest mess in Mysore. Tried their Ghee rice and chicken pepper masala.
Ghee rice was flavoursome and well cooked. Chicken pepper masala was spicy and tasty.
Non veg traditional Mysore fare .A place traditionally known for its non veg cuisine - Mutton kheema, pepper , garlic chicken , rice and ne’er dosai . Good personalized service
Loved the Mysore non-veg breakfast with chicken 🍗 varieties and mutton varieties
I really enjoyed the Mysore taste 👅
All will start with water but they started with mutton leg soup its compliment
I went on Sunday morning it was rush there i think its because weekend waited for 10 mins
A trademark mysore style oota with a fine spree of their ancient masalas staging the show for them...
Their setup is quite like their title in a marriage feast kind made with stools and column wise arranged tables.. dishes served in banana leaf topped plated...
Their menu is much simple as in
Chicken oota - 240 Rs. (Meals)
Chicken keema oota - 240 Rs. (Meals)
Mutton oota - 240 Rs. (Meals)
*We didnt ask whether they had anything on their menu vegetarians but I do strongly hope that they have it in.. the reason is their rasam and butter milk were yum..
Meals and just meals with raggi mudde serving and chicken boiled down to a spongy consistency which gets clumsy just by your touch and what more can your tummy ask for on a hot and exhausting afternoon 🌞🌞
Though the ambient space was little, their hospitality was so cozy and welcoming giving a homely feel.
Spicyness was apt and so did their freshness..
Overall a good stop for a nati style Karnataka meals if you're at mysore..
Go for it
Seer ❤️
This is the place which I will never forget in my life. the level of customer service at their best. As we visited few of my friends we're vegetarian and they didn't had veg menu but still they got it from out side and served us which no one does in this days to satisfy customer. And when it comes to food part it was so delicious mallige idly is must try if your are going in morning hours and also their palav is tasty. Must visit place in Mysore when you are there.
