This was the first branch of Sagar Ratna to be opened in New Delhi. It was spread on two floors, sadly the second floor is closed for the last 6 yrs. However, they have taken the shop next door to make up the seating. Service is very very quick. We got our order within 10 mins. Also, the attendants are very observant....were quick to offer to refill sambar, chutney, water etc etc.
The hand wash area is slightly inside the kitchen area.
The atmosphere and ambience could have been better.
Price wise very decent.
We ordered dahi vada, filter coffee, paneer masala dosa and rava onion masala dosa.
Dahi vada and coffees were too good.
The dosas were avg.
You can't wrong with Sagar at Def Col... Undoubtedly the best place to enjoy South Indian dishes... The variety is good, excellent and prompt service, quality and quantity is good. Tried a new Chettinad dosa, comes with two dosas with different chutney/paste on them, one mild and other nice and spicy. Loved them, do try in next visit

Ultimate Authentic dosa, uttapam, fried idli and other varieties of South Indian are served here. The taste was really good. Service was quick and fantastic. We went to Sagar ratna in defence colony market. Staff was kind and welcoming. It was quite full even on weekday.

Sagar and Sagar Ratna are three small restaurants,two of them adjoining and third one a few shops away. But all of them are favourite with people. It's mainly South Indian vegetarian restaurant but they serve some Chinese and other dishes as well in one of them. Food is good and rates are reasonable too. Seating and decor is very ordinary.

This place i ate my breakfast in India for last weeks!! And staff is not only nice, is specially nice, make you feel at home, the taste is really better than many good places!
Everyone has a go to South Indian place. This is mine. The staff are accommodating and always greet you with a smile. The food quality is consistently great. Tables move fast so I've always found a place even though it's busy.
Opens up early for breakfast. This place is mecca for South Indian food. Every dish is flavorful & excellent. Excellent work by the staff.
Absolutely classic. Visiting after about 30 years, in autumn 2021. Same clean premises, unfussy service, reasonable prices and sumptuous food. Heartily recommend this place to any one at all. Well done, Sagar Ratna. Jai Hind.
Sagar Ratna Defence colony market is my favourite go to place for regular South Indian fare. My absolute favourite are the vadas which are the best vadas I have tasted anywhere.
They have a huge variety and have introduced Idli chaat and chettinad Dosa recently. Haven't tried these because I love the regular stuff.
Service is very attentive and high speed. Decor is simple and clean. They are generous with the extras like sambar and 3 types of chutneys and give seconds happily.
The staff has become too slow. In this competitive food industry if we dont change with the time then its a loss for the taste and the name. There was a time when there were not much South Indian options but with the times we have many chains from across the country and the taste and the services are comparatively better. I suggest the owners to keep a tab or else slowly they will start losing the trust and customers which have been them for over years.
One of the best South Indian food chains in Delhi. The staff is very courteous and the service is quick. We tried the idli chaat. It was nice. Just like the dahi vada minus the heaviness of the dal. Overall it was a good experience. :)
It is one of my favourite places to eat in new delhi. I am biased towards south indian food in general because it's the only cuisine that's kind to my stomach, but the special thali and coconut dosa are some of the best food i have tasted in my life. And the atmosphere, on top of that, is so calm and chill.
