Best place to have delicious non veg food at a reasonable price!! Their dishes are amazing than most of the good cafes in this area. Love their afgani chicken, chicken jhalfrezi, butter chicken, basically every non veg dish and specially sizzlers! :P
One of my most favourite places in delhi. Nice food, basic seating and reasonable price. I almost like each and every dish of them ,among them mutton rogan josh, chiken jhalfrezi, and chiken lababdar are on top of the list. Must try their chilli potato in starter and pineapple raita at the end.
Tandoori malai chaap tandoori chicken was super tasty and fruit icecream is full of nuts is a must try.
I also ordered naan and Shai paneer the taste was good.
(Disclaimer: This is not a reviewer talking but a loyal customer who has enjoyed almost every meal. Now be it because of friends or food, does not matter, right?)
If you like to eat only at fancy cafes and restaurants then my friend this is not for you. It is old, and still nobody cares to paint the walls. They make almost any sabzi creamy, yet, the sabzi tastes just perfect. Their waiters are not exactly professionals, but they know everything about all the dishes inside out. The service is super fast. They serve the most lovely Gulaab Jamuns. Guess what? They even offer our college and a few others a 10% discount.
All this makes Secular what it is. It has the most lively crowd even without any music. You will hardly find a place to sit inside on the weekends. There are queues lined up outside to get their seats and yet the kitchen serves everyone. It is loved by one and all. Vegetarians love it and for non-vegetarians, it is a paradise.
I live a Kilometer away from Secular and this is our anytime go-to place to grab a bite; well, not just bite but a whole lot of food. There is hardly any comparable place in the area. It is a must-visit if you have still not tried it yet.

It is a great place to have good food at reasonable price. Though we went on a Sunday night, hence it was crowded and we had to wait 25 mins before we could enter. We tried Chinese and it was delicious. Also, their pineapple raita is a must try.
It's a good place for students to have delicious food at pocket friendly price. The place is small so don't expect a great ambience but the service was quick. overall, my experience was great! I would recommend this place to students and families looking for good food.
Secular kitchen in front of JNU campus is meme in itself but believe me the food at this place is no Joke... you can not complain about the Karachi chicken with lachha paratha of Secure Kitchen... being the secular they have got great range of Options in menu for veg and non veg food both. We tried Paneer bheji and V3g hot and sour soup in Veg and it was delicious. Secular kitchen is the best.
Going here since childhood and this is the most amazing place for me, my family and friends the food is just delicious.
Spent most of my college life eating from here and this restaurant provides one of the best quality food without digging much into your pockets. Paneer butter masala is a must try!
This place serves super delicious food
Tasty food and diverse choices at lower costs. Service is awesome and they don't charge u much of the tax burden, plus Students from JNU, NII, IIT, ICGEB, etc can get 10% discounts on total billing on presenting their valid institutional ID
This place is students paradise. I have been visiting this place for last 4-5 years. The place is generally crowded during lunch and dinner hours. So there may be some waiting time as well. The Ambience is not that good But the food is really good and light on pocket. I would highly recommend to try afghani chicken and pineapple raita from this place. Also the naan, both stuffed and plain, are so fresh and crispy. Not at all soggy. Plus there's 10% discount on JNU I-Card 😄
Nice food......i always used to go there whenever I want to eat my favorites it is really very place to spend your time with all what you want...
Really nice food. We ordered chicken tikka. The quantity was enough for 2 people. Seating arrangement isn’t that good nor the ambiance. But canteen type feeling and good food.
A Best family restaurant to have delicious food❤️ Specially Chicken ❤️

Amazing and affordable food.
Not a fancy place to dine in but surely recommend for some nice time with friends and family.
Ordered the chicken choupsey, chilly potato, fried rice manchurian and jal jeera.
They have friendly staff members too.
Good food at an affordable price is what this place is known for! We ordered chicken malai tikka and butter chicken. The quantity was fairly good for the price.
I’ve ordered food several a times from here, also one of my fav restaurant near my home.
They serve North Indian and South Indian Cuisine. Also Chinese.
Late night Ordered chilli chicken dry from this place , Order delivered on time, food was very hot and very tasty but quantity is little less as per my expectations.........
Food is great on price. Service is also good. Great for non vegetarians. Must try is sizzling Tangri-Kabab. Only JNU students get 10% discount on dinein.
Nice place to enjoy quality food without GST, but u need to make sure to reach lil early coz if late then there will be long queue and u have to wait to get the seat
Have been to many restaurants in Delhi so far, but if I will consider the quality and taste of the food according to the cost, this is the best one within a average budget. As the restaurant is nearer to JNU, I frequently check out this place and have tasted so many dishes. Never mind to wait a few minutes as the place is almost full 😂. Ambience and service is reasonable. Coming to food-
Butter Naan- tell them to give you fresh. Really crispy with good amount of butter on it. A must try
Paratha- Tried keema paratha and paneer paratha. So yummy.
In Veg, other than paneer if you look for something to combine with Butter Naan! Then go for Veg Navaratan Korma. Truly delicious. Butter paneer is awesome.
Among the starter, you can opt for Mushroom or Chilly Patato. Veg Platter is something you shouldn't miss, if u are a vegetarian.
Nonveg-
In starter, I absolutely live their Afgani Chicken. They are known for good chicken. Nonveg Platter is equally good. In main course Go for mutton dishes, especially the mutton curry or korma. A perfect combination for your crispy naan.
Pineapple Raita- Guys you just can't miss this!!!
Chinese - Soup is a must try if you love them, reasonable taste. Chinese Hakka noodles chicken one is really tasty, not so oily.
In rvening time you can go for South Indian- try their masala dosa. Also paneer pakoda.
Overall visit this place won't disappoint u 😊
***If you are from JNU or IIT Delhi, then carry your Id card for 10% discount.
We have visited Secular House Canteen last week with friends. We ordered Afghani chicken, sweet lassi, butter chicken. When You enter dont be mistaken by ambience food is so tasty. Not exagrtng cause we are ordinary customers. Bringing order took time. We were reminding them continiously. We went on weekend so it was packed. They gave a token /number written on a piece of paper. Really popular place within area. After that dont feeling eating hostel food. When You try food You forget about all mentioned waiting/ambience. Dont expect high profile cutlery. Must try.
Epic Mutton Curry,Non-Veg Platter,Pineapple Raita And Stuffed Naan.Great Place To Eat With Your Close Friends And Family At An Affordable Price.
This is basically the adda for IITians to have better food then their mess provides. Great place to come out here with your family or group of friends. The menu is kind of sober and won't really be that exciting while the food is quite decent. Sometimes the rush is quite heavy here and you might have to consider waiting for quite a long time. The starters ( non veg) are served very nicely. This place has a baskin Robbins ice cream parlour inside it.
Awesome palace, great staff all varient of food stuffs are good. Be it north indian, south Indian amd chinese. A must visit place for foodiezzz.
Ordered Afghani chicken and tandoori chicken on 15th oct.... It was amazing. Recommended by a fren from US, who used to order from you, while she was in India. N it was worth it. I totally recommend...
I have visited and ordered from secular many times and the food here is very good. The mutton was tender and well cooked in kadai mutton. The boneless kadai chicken was good too. I always order the Afghani Chicken as it's the best dish here. The 1* it missed is just for the ambience that is missing.
A good place to eat with no additional service charge. The service is quick and the price is very reasonable. No liquor is allowed.
In evening, it is mostly packed, so sometimes you may have to wait for 10-15 mins.

It is indeed mezbaan, the service is really good with friendly staff. They serve the best afghani chicken. Their kadhai mutton, tangri kabab, veg platter, mutton korma are very tasty. Good food without making hole in your pocket.
Food tastes good. Nice place to hangout in a smart budget. I tried mostly all of the dishes here and it tasted nice. do visit this place. you will like it.
Good place for outing with friends or colleagues in a budget which everyone can afford. Limited veg options but wholesome quantity. Pineapple Rait a a must try
This cosy little place is a favorite adda for JNUites as well as IITans, who hog the canteen specially on the weekends, where one has to wait for almost an hour to find a place. A favorite among families as well..The staff is courteous and considerate. And on top of all is the food, which is finger licking good.. start off with some drinks like fruit punch or jal jeera, which are very desi, and move on the appetizers like honey chilli potato and the sizzling veg platter which would actually sedate you with aromatic magic and taste. We typically order fish curry and plain rice, which are amazingly prepared and haven't found a matching taste of fish curry anywhere in delhi so far. Not much of choice on the dessert side but with a pet houseful, what more can a foodie or hungry soul ask for.. 4**** !
One of the best places to have tasty food at reasonable prices. If you're a chicken lover, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka and reshmi kabab are a must. They also give 10% discount to JNU students on availability of JNU Id.
Discovered this hidden gem in the heart of delhi... they have the amazing sizzlers and chinese food and indian food.. located in a beautiful place surrounded by trees.. best sizzler i have ever had..
I first happen to chance upon secular house when it had just opened its doors in the mid of 2000 with what would prove their signature dish of butter chicken. Needless to say a growing college student with an appetite that did not match the money in your pockets, my brother and I were always on the lookout for true value for money. Now in Mumbai I have craved for a decent taste of butter chicken throughout the city and have yet to come across one, hence on my latest trip to Delhi I dragged my colleagues on towards secular promising them the best butter chicken in town..... goes without saying they absolutely loved it.... what’s surprising is that they have managed to take an already awesome preparation and made it somehow better :)..... the addition of cheese in an already sumptuous dish has taken it to the next level. While I haven’t tasted their other signature dishes, if your in the mood for one of the best butter chickens you’ve tasted, make your way to secular house on asif Ali marg.... I promise you, you won’t be disappointed....
Awesome place, Awesome food, especially i love Afghani chicken, awesome taste, you also try butter chicken, gulab jamun , all taste are awesoem. It is friendly place, staff are good, price is also good so go for secular house canteen near JNU.
shahi paneer Nd daal makhni i really love from secular house........ goos food hygienist and really good quality and quantity... i mean pocket frindly... i recommend all to order from secular canteen i ll. order again... nice job...
delicious taste and good service at reasonable prices one must try it. it looks like a old canteen but don't go with its looks the quality of the food and the taste is lit. i've been going here since 3 years and its worth it
This place is not so popular and not so recognised but sure is a hit among the JNUites. This canteen is located in the vastu kala academy which is opposite the JNU east gate. They serve Mughlai, Chinese and north Indian food. The place is not very fancy like other restaurants but if you want to have some mouth drooling food in a strict budget then this might be your place. The ambience is very ordinary like a canteen but to be very honest, as long as the food tastes good, I don’t care about the ambience much. I went there for the first time so ordered the very basic arhar dal, butter roti and jeera rice to judge the taste and believe me, it took me by surprise. I will definitely visit the place again and try something different.
We ordered Chilli potato and salt and pepper baby corn for starters both of which were really nice... Then for main course we ordered Mutton rogan josh, Keema naan, Paneer mughlai, dry veg manchurian, butter rotis, Butter naan and hot gulab jamun... Mutton rogan josh has 5 tender pieces of mutton in a really delucious gravy... Keema naan is also very tasty... Coming to paneer mughlai its was okayish and veg manchurian was also good.... The hot gulab jamuns are nice too... So if you are tight on budget and want lots of good food you can definitely visit this place.
Dine-in review.
A really nice place to eat at low prices. The joint itself is a bit dingy and badly lit and ventilated.
However, the food is amazing.
The Fish Tikka, served with salad and green chutney, is amazingly moist and tender and juicy.
Both the Fish Curry and Handi Chicken are delicious and served with a lot of gravy.
Also, the Pineapple Raita is served with dry fruits and kheer on top.
Bonus points, show your JNU Student ID for a flat 10% discount!!
The food was awesome
and dilevry also good
Great food and service. I have visited this place more than 100 times and everytime I had a very good experience. Thr staff is friendly and even the menu is balanced and has both veg and non veg dishes. Overall 5/5 do visit.
You sometimes need actual good food that tastes desi and anazing and not specifically care about the place being very ambient or sophistic like a multi star hotel. Go nowhere but to Secular House canteen if you seek so. Save yourself on humid days, as you may not get AC.
It is no frills place that offers you some of yummiest north Indian foods. You get good breads, rich curries, crispy rice and biryani and good support from chutneys and salad. Do try paneer dishes. I found prices to be affordable and you need not to necessarily keep a track of what you order.
Fully recommended.
It is a restaurant for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian!! I m a vegetarian so I know all about veg. Food!! Best place if you are finding a home taste!! The staff is very good at their work and they take less time to get the food!! Only drawback is that It's a crowdy place you have to wait for your turn!! Pocket friendly price and is situated at good place(near IIT Delhi). The taste of food is very good and the tandoori roti are very crispy and overall loved the taste of food!!
This place has become even better, after the make over / buyout... The tandoori starters were outstanding this time... We took the non veg platter...
The fish and the malai tikka were brilliant... It's a must visit if you're in the vicinity...
Don't get thrown off by the exteriors and the approach, inside it is a nice experience...
They have a Super fast delivery and great quality food!
Budget friendly option as well! :)
P.S - Don't go for Noodles. It's extremely oily. Otherwise everything in their menu is good.
Food was really nice and it was delivered on time.
This spot is my family's favourite. I love the garlic fried rice and Chinese cuisine to be specific. Always booming with students, this was the first place I came on arriving Delhi.
This place in terms of food quality is very good with ambience decent. I love non-veg platter here.
But during weekend there is a long queue
Amazing platters and economical food makes the place worth visiting every week. It's similar to college canteen but the services are excellent. Must try Veg and Non veg platter.
The food here was superb & clean atmosphere. Items were prepared fresh and almost everything was tasty. The price was also decent. Although we were almost 15-20 persons, the food was brought to us within 20-25 minutes only.
It was a good experience.
Variety of options, good for family and friends, reasonable price and decent portion size. Staff good.
It is a nice place to have lunch with family and friends.
Food quality is nice, amazing taste.
Quality and quantity of food is also maintained well.
Had a good time here.
It was a nice experience at this place.
delicious taste of malai chaap and paneer
tikka.
Great experience. Nice foods. Served well. Good for both veg and non vegetarian.
Excellent Food, restaurant needs maintenance. But food is very good. Definately check it out. Prices are good too.
The ultimate place for near bersarai and old jnu campus. This place is very busy at lunch time. Their food quality is also good.
Relived my old JNU days. Thanks to Dineshji and Deepakji of Secular canteen who used to serve us as students. The place has changed a lot the food and warmth remains the same.
The food is amazingly good and super affordable. This place has amazing vibe with many students and young crowd visiting the place. You can find many families also enjoying their food over here.
The service is also extremely efficient and gets your order very fast. You can get both veg and non veg options here.
Do try their honey chilly potato and pineapple raita. You'd love it.
Big fan of Afghanistani Chicken served here.
Staff behaviour is polite and responsive.
Also love Fruit Ice cream here.
This is a value for money spot for lunch and dinner. Quality is not bad. It is very popular among students, and may become crowded if you are late. Not bad for families. It is not fully a restaurant.
For someone who loves a homely meal at an affordable rate this is the right place. And if you love the vibe of a Location that decided it did not need fancy walls and an elaborate ambience. It's close to JNU and the airport and happens to be open till 1030pm.
Everything about this Canteen is top notch.(We always called it JNU) I just couldn't get the time on my hands to review all them years. We've been coming here for more than 1.5 decade or so, never have neither the waiters nor the manager failed to provide. Especially - Bahadur uncle. In terms of food, if one has to go then you have to try the Butter Chicken, Tandoori Chicken as well as Dal Makhni, Chilli Potato and Manchow Chicken Soup/the list goes on and on.. nothing that's listed in the menu is made with any quality compromised. I can confidently say that this would come up in Top 10 Restaurants/Canteens in Delhi, plan on getting the newer generation here someday too. (I got too busy eating to a point I couldn't take more pictures but I will the next time I go!)
Food is really yummy. Non veg is better than veg. Service is great but lack of space is there.
A good to go option for economical foods, You won't complaint about the quality
Pro:
Good and tasty food.
Wide verity
Reasonable price.
Quick Service
Big serving size.
Cons:
Congested sitting space,
Overall, a good place to eat if your only purpose is to go and eat.
Its ambiance is like canteen but food aint.. rose the standard of course..😄
Ordered Paneer Butter, which was sweet. idk why, but chutney filled in.. so must try if near
Went first time after corona came, the food was as great as ever! The Chilli potato, chowmein, spring rolls, all were as great as usual. As always the quantity is good and prices are reasonable.
Non veg is also very good. Service is fast and excellent even during crowded hours.
This place is too crowded. When you are planning to visit this place make sure you have enough time to enjoy your food. Sometimes you may have to wait to get a table.
I didn't find the name plate of this restaurant but it still attracts lots of people.
There are lots of staff to handle the crowd.
The food at this place is amazing. There are varieties of options in both veg and non veg categories. I find veg items cheaper than the non veg items.
One of my favourite places that I have visited countless times for lunch and dinner with friends and family. Highly budget friendly, great service and amazing food. Also provides 10 per cent discount on IIT’s ID card :) They also provide home delivery at super quick speed and I have lost count of the number of times my friends and I have feasted on their food for parties or when working in the campus and feeling too lazy to go out for lunch/dinner. The place has very simple not-so-fancy ambience but the memories stay with you forever! All their food is great but do not forget to try their chillie mushroom, afghani chicken tikka and pineapple raita among other things. Also, the place is super crowded with students on national holidays, so any day except those is a good time to visit the restaurant. Highly recommended and would love to visit again and again :)
