Good place and amazing food but pathetic staff and service
Its an average experience as compared to other bengali resturants over there. kosha msnsho was definately good and worth trying with luchi. Prawn could be way better.
Perfect place for Bengali delicacies. Prices are a bit on the higher side though!
After a long Lock-Down period, This was my first Dine-In experience. Hence, I chose the Bengali experience as my cuisine of choice to break my “Fast”. Looked up the best Bengali places and reached CoJ.
A not so impressive location or approach to the first floor restraurant and my first impressions were not very good, to say the least. But I n my fellow, held on and thought of giving a shot to the food. Serving staff is also of very basic level so dont expect much red Carpet treatment, to be honest .
But the Food is simply Fabulous ! Every item that we tried was absolutely “Joy”..!!
Mutton Kosha - Very mildly spicy so any age group can try and the Gravy was too good ! Mutton pieces also, we perfectly cooked and Mutton itself was Fresh ! 10/10
Illish Shorshe (Hilsa Mustard) - I requested to go easy with Mustard, so they handled it perfectly. Very well done ! Hilsa was perfect, as always...Mustard could preparation could be somewhat improved, I feel. But still a delight ! 9/10..
Mutton Biryani - Perfectly fragarant Rice (great quality rice used BTW) with well cooked Mutton Pieces and both Egg & Aalu was nicely crispy done. 10/10
Luchi (Poori) were also done perfectly. Very Light and not too Oily and neither over crispy nor under cooked. Just perfect. 10/10
Overall 9-9.3 for Food. I would be coming again, to try more Food items before giving a final rating. Hopefully, This place will be able to maintain the brilliant impression Food-Wise and my final rating on Food, may settle at 9.5
Decor was very minimal, Which is fine. But owners can do better by improving the approach of restraurant (maybe cleaner and better lit Stairs)
THE MOST consistent restaurant we have visited. We have been going here since the past 5 years and it has never failed to impress us and ensure that we visit more often. Every single dish is very authentic and the portion sizes are perfect. Even in home delivery, the food is neatly packed and even during this quanrantine period, it hasn't failed to provide us with fresh and hygienic food.
Starting from koraishutir kochuri and kosha mangsho to amshotto chutney, all the dishes are heavenly
We go and try a new dish every single time and nothing ends up getting packed!!
It is surely a MUST VISIT.
very good homely food and supportive staff
This is the best place so far to have authentic bengali food that too without a bigger hole in your pocket. Limited seating, Cozy and warm ambience makes it less crowded (that doesn't mean it doesn't has customers, it's a foodoholics place) which makes enjoying the super delicious food at ease.
Had fish fry and fish curry. Both were really good. It's not easily noticed but the advantage is that it's quiet and not overcrowded. Will probably revisit soon.
This is nice place for some food. I went for lunch with a friend living in Alaknanda.
Nice spacy and good seating. Food is delicious and good staff.
I will be back here.
So happy that they are delivering to IIT Delhi....it's always my favourite place. Food is awesome. Love it ..
Nice place to have a good dinner with some friends. The place is good.
Cluster table and seating. Mutton biryani, fish fry was epic in taste.
The staff was humble and good.
Awsome experience ordered kosha mangsho .basanti pulao. Fish orly.fish fry.fish kobiraji.all were fab.will recommend and visit again ....soon
One is always skeptical when taking their family out for lunch or dinner, hoping that the meal lives up to the standard one has boasted the eatery of having. At that City of Joy does not disappoint. Took my mum and dad who are in town for a quiet lunch at the restaurant yesterday. We ordered for luchi and alur dom as well as shukto, chicken dak bungalow and bhetki macher bori beguner jhol. The food was aromatic, delectable and pocket-friendly. A must-go place whenever you are in the area.
Best place to try authentic bengali food
We have been going to this restaurant whenever there is an urge to eat Bengali food. Over the years, they maintained the food consistency.
Off late, we make it a point to visit it during Puja days. This year we ordered fish chop as started followed by koraichuti kochori with kosha mangsho, luchi, dhokar dalna, sona muger dal and rice. All were good except the dal it was below average. But we loved the meat.
The best part is due to Puja pressure they were serving water in plastic glasses so my husband objected and they quickly changed to glass and served us in that only.
Have ordered chicken biryani from here quiet a lot of times and WOW.....this restaurant has become my favorite for satisfying my biryani cravings....quantity is really good....its not so spicy and mouthwatering.
Looking forward to try other dishes from here.
This has been a good place to try Benagli food before zomato era. However in last few years, the high price tag has made me stay away. Recently tried. Food taste okay. Price on higher side. Parking available on the road.
One of the best restaurant to have bengali food.the begun bhaja with Very little oil is the best thing.yes of course the maach bhapa was also very very tasty!the portion of rice is a lot!great chef!
Food is my weakness and good food is my saviour!!
One of the best Kolkata Biryani that I had in Delhi. And there's none to compare their food with. The perfection of flavours, quality and quantity is beyond expectations.
While I'm enjoying this flavourful biryani, all I can say is - it's worth an experience. That's how good they are.
I'm literally short of words !!
Amazing food... The staff is very courteous
Food :5/5
Ambience:3/5
Value for money 7/5
Must try: Mutton biriyani, fish finger , fish fry (tawa), moong dal
They serve authentic bengali foood. The food is really good and the prices are very reasonable. The place is small but it well maintained. A perfect place for family dinners. I loved the food.Mutton rezala is just awesome and muri ghanto tastes so good. All the items in the menu are really good.
Probably the best bengali food restaurant in C.R.Park and Alaknanda. That's high praise. Channar dalna, kosha mangsho are amazing. Fish items are good too. Can improve value for money. Mostly ordered for home delivery.
Excellent taste of food, very good ambience, staffs were really caring and will make you comfortable, they suggest well while choosing food from menu, must visit for any Bengali in Delhi .....very much Happy to have food here....
Must visit place for all the people, specially bengali’s..
The ambience would be little dull but the food makes it for all..Great food, cant stop yourself of eating more & more.
Thumbs up for the great food.keeping going!!✌🏻👏🏻
City of joy knows the city of my stomach and they get along so well that I went there four times in the month of January.
In an age where so many restaurants are coming up with new and innovative food/ambience/arrive these guys do the basics so well that I'm dumbfounded to always find them mostly empty.
I don't need to tell you what to order, the waiter will do it without asking you. :p
If you are one for the decor then this is not your place. But there is hardly a better place in Delhi for authentic Bengali food at affordable budget. We frequently visit this place and the food is unadulteratedly Bengali.
Pro tip: show Zomato gold before ordering else they often don't accept
Went to try out Bengali cuisine, City of Joy is located in heart of CR Park, only a ride away from Greater Kailash metro station. Starting with ambience, they have kept it simple with some old classic potraits to give you a feel as if you are sitting in a restaurant in North Kolkata. Service was great, polite and friendly staff. Coming to main part, food was tasty, both in terms of quality and quantity. We tried Mochar chop, basmati rice, Luchi + kosha mangsho, tangda sorse. Missed aam chutney as it was not available that day. Anyways no regrets! Enjoyed the lunch. A must visit if you have taste buds for bengali food!
The food was really outstanding. I give this place 5 stars. The ambience is not great but good food trumps everything else. I’m not a sucker for exuberance but this place needs a serious makeover to keep up with the times. The food is highly recommended.
This place represents an excellent combo of food and beauty as keeping in mind, while serving the traditional dishes... One must try kosha mutton nd luchii with aam panna... Excellent service... Pls go guys...
Food is really amazing! Undoubtedly.. especially for us home away bongs..
But guys, pls improve your restaurant ambience.. needs renovation and ventilation!
The bhetki shorshe jhal was fantastic, somehow managed to taste fresh even in Delhi. Their fish fry was also better than the ones from oh calcutta, a little less oily and not too batter heavy, which is yay.
Food is excellent and the quality of the items are also superb. I have become a fan of this place. Price is reasonable. Feel like ordering over and over again. Especially mangsho kosha and chicken dakbanglo is a delicacy of theirs. A must recommended place for great Bengali food.
I ordered from City of Joy yesterday as my ‘usual place’ was not accepting online orders. And I’m glad for that! It gave me the chance to try out their food - truly authentic ‘Bangal’ cuisine. I love to cook and have meticulously tracked all my traditional recipes back a couple of generations. Their flavour come very close to what I make at home. Fresh, right balance of sweet and salty something very few are able to master. I’m ordering out again today. You should try it once as well. Worth it if you like Bengali food.
Mouth watering food and and peaceful place to enjoy Bengali food. My girlfriend took me there as she loves Bengali cuisine (inspired by her Bengali friends). My taste buds enjoyed fish cutlets, button with poori( Bengalis call it differently :D) and dessert.
City of Joy, just amazes me. A small joint, extremely affordable BUT serving really great food. I also feel that they are probably the best joint serving Bengali food in Delhi.
Their Luchi and Kosha Mangsho is really so good. Trivial dishes like, - Mochar Ghonto, Posto Narkel Bora, Dal, All Bhaja are also great. They take time to serve, but they serve really warm and in good quantity. Extremely value for money.
Must try
Looking for bengali food in Delhi, this is the place to be... I am a big fan of pabda illish, cholar dal, jhuri Aloo bhaja, pomfret fry and steam rice...
I cannot even begin to tell how much I love this place. Loochi and Kosha maangsho are my all time favourite. Plus the chicken kobiraaji is something you cannot ever miss. Everything in this place is so delicious, I would joke with my friends that if you are going to eat in City Of Joy, you must not eat anything the whole day so that you can savour the food! It’s really my go to place!
Aswome place to have Bengali food, whenever I crave for Bengali food and miss home cooked food I come here. Awesome ambience. Polite and friendly staffs.
I have been to this place several times in the past 7 years. Few of my favourites are - Illish Bhaja Tel with Kacha Lonka, Hilsa mustard curry, Rui Tel Jhal, Begun Bhaja, Luchi with mutton kosha. Once I also ate Pabda fish curry, but it was average. The taste is excellent but the prices of the dishes are slightly on the higher side.
The best bengali food in Cr park. Love their bringal and lentil dumplings (begun er bori diye jhol). Fish fry is good and the best is their mutton chop.
Order luchi and kosha mangsho for a satisfying complete meal. During summers try their aam porar sherbat.. very refreshing and a traditional drink.
If you are a bong staying in Delhi NCR and still haven’t been here, you can consider yourself in the list of poor luck-wala peoples!
#Hidden-gem!
Must visit place for bong or the ones who want to taste Bengali foods!
Must try : Polao with mutton kosha or rezala! Fish fingers! Pomfret fry (in gravy)
Cons : tiny place! If you are carrying your bad-luck with you, you might have to wait for 30mins (roughly) to get a table!
Zomato gold subscriptions will help you to order some extra foods.
Visit this place along with a empty stomach! 🤭
Bong-flavoured walls, group of bong people will add extra taste to your foods.
Complementary things : Extremely good service and well behaved staffs! 😅
I ordered rice with boneless bhetki kalia, dhokar dalna and posto narkel bora. I loved the posto narkel bora and the bhetki kalia. The dhokar dalna was good. Though the quantity was less the quality was good. The food was served hot and it was really tasty. The service was good. Eagerly waiting to visit this place again.
City of joy has one of the best Bengali kitchens in the city. Each and every item is made true to its authentic taste. Definitely try fish kobiraji, norkol bada, fish orli and chop for starters. There are many options for vegetarians also, cholar daal, luchi and alloo potol dalna are good. In mains, mutton daak Bangla is very good. So is doi fish. The kaju koshmish pulao is great with all items.
Being from Odisha, I am always on the lookout for food closest to home. City of Joy, by far is my most favorite Bengali food place in Delhi. From its kosha mangsho to shorshe maach to its bhetki paturi are all heart-winners. The ambience is akin to an old Bengali household.
A small restaurant situated Aravalli complex. Being a Bengali outside Bengal my taste buds always craves for authentic Bengali food and this place is a gem. The decor will take you back to Bengal and slow Bengali music was played in the background. It will fill your heart with nostalgia. I ordered fish Orly, pulao, mutton kosha, alu bhaja, chatni and papad bhaja. The food was served warm in time. All the food tasted superb and will definitely serve your taste buds. The service is also good. It is quite economic as compared to other Bengali restaurants in the city. It serves a wide variety of menu. I was also able to use my Zomato Gold here. Overall it was a wonderful experience. Hoping to visit again soon.
The food from city of joy was scrumptious and so fresh. A great feast on Bengali affordable food after my mothers cooking :) definitely worth eating from here.
The food is really amazing here, it’s a small joint so plz be patient after giving order coz they take time to serve but the food will not disappoint you at all. Swapan helped us in choosing the food item and it was worth every penny
Great food. Price point is mid range. Must visit for authentic Bengali cuisine. Great variety as well. One thing to note, order generally take 30 minutes in the in dining. So keep that thing in mind before planning to go
Nice ambience, the mutton biryani is the one to be enjoyed the most, as it is deliciously tasty.. the service usually is top notch, with polite staff.
Had some great bangali khabar in Delhi in a very homely environment. Started with their fish orly. Then went on to the jhuri alu bhaja with sona mug mohan dal. Also had their Rui shorshe posto and ended with the classic kosha mangsho. Also packed their mutton aloo dum biriyani which was quite rich and nice with all the essential accompaniments of a kolkata biriyani: that is the aloo, egg and 2 pc of well cooked mutton. Just too much onion for my taste. But absolutely loved the fish orly, rui shorshe posto and kosha mangsho. Highly recommended for those in search of good bengali food!!
Nice food and humble staffs. Little expensive but given the quantity, that is justified.
Mutton biriyani was good and sufficient for two people
Food : 5/5 (Fish and Mutton Dishes are a must try)
Ambiance : 5/5 ( Loved the interiors, wallpapers and music)
Service :5/5 ( Well behaved and polite staff)
Found this name while searching best Mutton serving restaurant in Delhi.
Mutton Kosha and Loochi are amazing.
I also ate Bhetki which was in mustard curry and it tasted amazing with Steam Rice.
A bit difficult to find but the location is accurate on Google.
If you wanna try authentic Bengali food, I must this is the place, which is easy on pocket and serves tasty savouries. I loved their Nolen gurer payesh, absolutely delicious. The bhapa ilish with steam rice tasted fantastic (except it was too heavy on mustard, for which some ppl might reconsider before ordering). Mutton kosha with small, light and cute, luchis tasted heavenly.
Overall Service: 3.5/5
Ambience: 3.5/5
Food: 4/5
Absolutely delicious authentic Bengali food in south delhi. Recommend this place for fish curry and rice end it with mishti dou or nolan gud Sandesh.
Food is really tasty and homely, is bang in the road and easily accessible. Nice ambience and lively music is played on the background. They got talented chefs and make lovely Bengali delicacies. Fish and Mutton are simply awesome. Only thing is the lights are too dim.
Great Bengali food close to home. Variety of options and taste is on par. A favourite place to dine-in with friends and family. Recommended!
Being a bong tried this place, so ordered for radhaballavi with aloor dum and karaichutir kachuri with cholar daal..it was delicious..will order again..only one suggestion that filling could have been more better.
Taste- 8/10
Delivery - 7/10
Packaging - 7/10
Best bengali food in Alaknanda. Decent ambiance to go on a Sunday lunch with family. The quality and quantity of food is very good. Must try a complete bengali meal here.
Really good and yummy Bengali food! The pabda, fish cultlets, moong daal and mutton dak bungalow is a must try. The service is good. Cost-effective and you come out of the restaurant feeling satisfied
Affordable, homely place - lovely for a nice warm meal. The portions are substantial and the ambience very inviting. Do try the Bhapa Elish - we had a lovely time when we did.
This is one of the best Bengali restaurants in Delhi, making it a local favorite. However, you don't go for the ambiance-you go for the food. Around lunch and dinner time, prepare to wait, as many families come in to dine frequently. The service is as quick as it can be, though simple at that. For lunch, we had puris with yellow dal, mutton korma, and mustard fish. The dishes were authentic to Bengali tastes, the dal being thick and creamy (compared to watery dal), the mutton korma spiced with chilis and plenty of fat, and the mustard fish fragrant of mustard and fresh yogurt. For the portions and quality of food, this is a great place for a shared dinner.
City of joy is always my goto place for comfort bengali food. The mutton dish we ordered was cooked to perfection and taste for other dishes was also good. Chicken biryani was also very good

The food here is delicious. The mango chutney is mouth-watering. The ambience is quiet and comfortable. A great place to hang out with friends and family. The staffs are really nice and friendly.
The place serves palatable authentic Bengali cuisine. The service was quite hospitable. Food is up to the mark too. You really get a taste of Kolkata from miles apart. We had paturi mach, jhinge posto, mutton biryani and moong dal. Paturi mach could have been marinated more. It was good nevertheless. The dal didn't seem to be fresh, when we informed the staff they were cordial enough to not charge anything for it. Overall it was a very nice experience.
Well this is a hidden gem . Till now I have visted here like thrice .
I caanot ignore the food is awesome . The price compared to taste and portion is justified . How ever the interior might require a revamp . The dim yellow light gives it a very shabby feeling .
Another thing I might suggest that the cooking smell from kitchen should not come to dining hall . Many(the non bongs) may not be comfortable with the smell of fish .
Must try
pulao , kosha mangsho , fish orly , koraishutir kochuri and cholar dal.
This place is a bit difficult to find and once inside the decor is dated and dark. Tables crammed together. That said the food is great. Prawn Cutlet is tasty and decent size. The Alur Dom was flavourful.
I enjoyed the there ambience was good this is the really COJ (City of Joy) the wall attract me lot as well as food 😋😋. Mst place h price is good too

'City of Joy' is a symbolic name for Kolkota city, so the name of this outlet itself represents it as a place for authentic home style Bengali food. Situated in ALAKNANDA market, this place sits around 50 people at a time. You get the feeling of Kolkota, the moment you enter the place. Some pictures from old Bengali movies and a home style kitchen visible from every corner of this place. The staff is curteious and the Owner Mr. Debjyoti Roy is a very humble man. Finally about the food... unlike Mughlai or Punjabi food, their cuisines are not loaded with butter or cream. As a typical Bengali home cooked food, mostly items are made in Mustard oil to keep the bengali flavour intact. We ordered FISH FINGERS in snacks which was served along with a very strong Mustard chutney. In main course we ordered Kosha mangsho (Mutton curry), Pabda Mach (Fish curry), steamed rice and Luchi which is maida poori. Whatever we ordered was soul satisfying. I was accompied by a Bengali friend who had recommended this place. Thanks to my friend to show me this place. Now I know where to head if I crave for Bengali cuisines.
We have been celebrating our parent's wedding anni ersary twice in a row at City of Joy now.
Reasons I feel you should definitely make a visit here:
-prices are extremely reasonable if you're looking forward to sumptuous Bengali cuisine.
-the quality of food is just like the ones in the posh Bengali cuisine outlets.
-the service is good even during the rush hours of Durga puja.
-the food doesn't get affected by the puja rush.
-the taste is really good. Not too spicy, not too out of the world, just perfect.
What an experience! If you are a Bengali living or visiting Delhi, this is a must visit place. Also, I liked their specialty, Chicken Dak Bunglow.
