The extensive menu takes a bit of studying because it presents food from the world over; we spot Pan-Indian, Spanish, Malay, Thai, Japanese and Greek dishes.
Cafe Dalal street head Chef, Mr. Hemant Kumar has crafted an enticing multi-cuisine menu that brings an extraordinary range of finger food to the table. The idea behind the food was to give the customers a fun menu to go with the drinks and my experience was definitely amusing.
The restaurant has some fantastic signature bar menu to offer. The famous cocktails which can be found fast selling from the bar are the āBankruptcyā with JD silver select, Maraschino, Vermouth rosso and Bombay, served in a rustic lantern with dry ice at the base to add to the theatrics was all but just a show, the taste was extremely weird, it was way too bitter and though their best seller, didnāt please us; āBull Chaserā with Spiced Passion Fruit Vodka and Beer was again very diluted and flat, I absolutely failed to taste any spiced passion fruit flavor, āChocolate Martiniā with Rum, Chocolate and Vanilla again served in a glass filled with dry ice was dramatically presented, and thankfully it tasted great, it may even be a called a ladies drink, the proportion of run was apt and the chocolate and vanilla was al always a winning combo. We gave their mocktails also a try, Thai Mojito with kaffir lime, mint and coconut was light and refreshing, Peru with guava, mint, cumin and celery, yet again, the drink was much diluted and lacked the taste of guava or any spicy hit of the cumin.
I started my culinary adventure with Butter Chicken Golgappas, which being an original creation combines the everyday street food with North Indian all-time favourite butter chicken. The traditional potato stuffing is substituted with diced chicken chunks with onion served with creamy tangy butter chicken curry and this appetizer is unique yet ambrosial. The golgappas were especially made and deep fried giving them a very crispy and crunchy texture, which I loved.
Next on the table came Mushroom and Beetroot Galouti, served on mini tacos, these mouth-watering, melt in mouth galoutis were super yum and can easily fool any non-vegetarian, no one could imagine it has beetroot in it unless told so. It had a smoky earthy flavour to it. P.s. eat it while its hot else it may not taste as good.
Burnt Chilli Crispy Chicken was the next item we ordered, served on a leaf like green platter, this dish was packed full of flavour, morsel of chicken are wok tossed in a sweet chilli glaze with burnt garlic, spring onion, chillies etc. giving the chicken a crispy sticky coating on the outside and a sweet and chilli taste.
Honey Chilli Potato was chosen by my vegetarian friend, thin strips of potato deep fried giving it a crispy texture and then wok tossed with soy, sweet chilli sauce, smoked chillies, spring onions, honey and coated with roasted white sesame.
Veg Spring Rolls, more like cigars were pretty damn good, tightly and very neatly wrapped up, deep fried with no excess oil dripping, the outer casing really crunchy and the filling inside flavoursome, served with different dips!!
Five-Spiced Asian Fish Nuggets was another pick on the table, and I was looking forward to this one but unfortunately was a let-down. Thinly sliced fish fillets coated in a spicy batter and deep fried, the batter was crispy and had a deep Asian spice flavour to it but the fish inside was bland, one could barely taste it as the coating overpowered it.
Hara Bhara Kebab was yet another delicious vegetarian option; the kebabs were soft and tasted great. Mildly spiced, made of spinach and green peas, this dish was liked by all as it was perfectly balanced.
On our special request the management made a half and half pizza for us, half veg and half non veg. The base was thin and crispy, four cheese pizza was simply delectable and cheesy, however the bbq chicken side was a let-down as the chicken was stale and tasted and smelled weird.
Lastly for the main course, we decided to try their Parsi Mutton Dhansak, served with fragrant Parsi rice pilaf. A very hearty Iranian preparation of mutton and lentils cooked together in desi ghee to perfection and combined with potato and aubergine. The gravy was delicious and the mutton was cooked very well, almost falling off the bone, the rice in itself was a delight to have.
We were so stuffed by then that we couldnāt try more, though I really wanted to have some desserts, but couldnāt, and so would definitely like to come back to try some of their quirky preparations and desserts. The music was a tad too loud to strike a conversation. The overall food experience was good, we didnāt have any bad item, but I am yet to be blown away with any as well. The cocktails could use a little work. The staff is extremely amiable and alert to the needs of the customer. The ambience of the restaurant is very welcoming as well.
