The amazing variety of sweets and it’s extraordinary taste totally defines the essence of old Delhi. The shahi tukda of this place is totally unforgettable. The perfect blend of ghee, bread, dry fruits and happiness 😀 Each sweet of this place has a heavenly unforgettable taste. Love this place a lot.

This place serves some lip-smacking Sweet dishes. Tried Mawa samosa, mawa jalebi and paneer jalebi. All the three dishes were just amazing. Mawa Samosa was the one which was the sweetest. If you are a vegetarian then avoid this place because they use the same oil for frying veg and non-veg dishes which I realized later.
A great for non veg lovers.

* VERDICT: Too many sweets, too little time! *

A great place to sample all sorts of traditional sweets if you're in the area. The location is perfect, just inside the lane opposite Jama Masjid and it is hard to miss. They are famous for their kheema samosas but too bad they had run out of them when I visited.

There are just a couple of tables inside the shop where you can sit and eat. Had the lassi, shahi tukda, ras malai and moond dal halwa. Everything tasted great – though I have to admit that their specialty (shahi tukda) is a tad bit overrated. Packed some halwa to bring home as well.

I have ordered rabri cost of 40 . The taste was good .Lots of more items are also available their but for good sweets I prefer rabri. I think they can improve more . Most importantly the quantity,it was not enough for the price of 40.either they must reduce price or increase quantity for same price.

Situated straight opposite to Jama Masjid’s Gate Number 1, Kallan Sweets is a humble shop selling the most flavorful Keema Samosa, Shahi Tukda and Kheer in Old Delhi. People come from far away specially to try out this delicacy. The shop specialises in traditional Mughlai sweets and desserts such as Pheni Khajla, Sohan Halwa, Pakeezah Karachi Halwa and Sahi Tukda. The Shahi Tukda and Kheer, both tastes so wonderful and flavors are amazing. Kheer is made together with Indian dry-fruits and Kesar. The Habshi Halwa is another of their specialty.

One of friend visited this place and managed to bring some goodies for me as well..
Which includes
Rasmalai
Shahi Tukra
Gulab jamun
Hapsi halwa
I loved it..I have been there long back ..I have tried there keema samosa back then..it was superb.
They are famous for shahi tukra and it was good but not great to be very honest. Coz I m not a clarified butter lover..
I loved there Rasmalai and gulab jamuns..it was fresh, soft and palatable.
Hapsi Halwa was interesting loaded with lots of nuts, ghee, sugar ,mawa..so it was like an Indian nutty eclair with loads of ghee..recommended for those ....who are regular gym visitors..

Must try:

If you perceive that Kallan Sweets is one of run-down eateries of Jama Masjid, let me burst that bubble for you. This place is as suave and polished as it can get. A warm, polite and English-speaking counterman (could possibly be the owner) addresses you and suggests the order. I was here for their much talked about Keema Samosa and Paneer Jalebis. Former was already sold out for the day, so I requested for Jalebis, which again was about a handful left. Meanwhile a different customer barged in with his order to which he politely requested to wait saying - ''Ladies first"!! Haha.

Well I did get my share of Jalebis (wish I had more!) that were outrageously delicious and just cannot stop at eating just one. I found it more delicious the next day straight from the fridge. You've got to try it before going to your grave.

Totally recommend their Paneer Jalebis.

This sweet shop is particularly famous for Keema samosa and paneer jalebi, both of which are only available during Ramzaan.
I tried the rabri and badam milk on a very recent to this place. The rabri was delightful. The sweetness was perfect and it had athick flaky texture. Rabri couldn't get any better than at Kallan sweets.
The badam milk came in a nice beautiful glass bottle. And from the very first sip, it is a blast of flavours. The sheer amount of pista and badam is stupendous. Make sure you shake the bottle properly.
These two dishes are must have on a visit to the famous Matia Mahal market. Would love to come back again and try a few more sweets.

Paneeer Jalebi and Khoya Jalebi topped with delectable warm Rabri. This is the Moksh Dessert no doubt. It is a must try. And you are certain to keep wanting more. The first spoonful is sure to knock off your senses. This place is packed with people. It has great food. The service is nice. Some of the most humble and smiling people are on the staff. The staff tried very hard to keep up with the crowd but the lines are long enough on the weekends. It is worth every penny you pay. They have lightly sweetened Rabri which is great.
You must plan a dessert from Kallan Sweets if you are visiting Puraani Dilli for a good fiestaaaa.

Thank me later.

As one of oldest stores in the walled city, the overall variety and freshness of the sweets and savoury products is excellent.

I tried the keema samosa here for the first time and it stood out well amongst the snacks. Made out of buff meat out of a gujiya, the outer layering is soft and textures of keema with a bit of spices is good. Next is the khoya samosa that is quite sweet and lovely. Paneer jalebi is outstanding and doesn't have any rus which makes all the more tasteworthy. All the sweets that were tried by me were good including the sweet milk served in a plastic bottle with rose extracts and loads of badam.

This place is a must visit if your near to Jama masjid and love to ingest toothsome and luscious items!!!

The first shop to encounter as soon as you head to Chitli Qabar road .. situated right at the entrance Kallan Sweets is extremely famous for a few things .. for sure with the locals and now given everyone is an alleged foodie (pardon if I offend here) and also with the food walks business :P ..

The few things could be categorized as
1. the crowd favourites
2. the real favourites lol

- ghee loaded shahi tukra, people would call it desi ghee dipped and what not .. well I would say .. okay if you believe so. But if you find it good .. great .. somehow not that appetizing for me
- the real favourite .. with the locals, the frequent'ers' are the paneer ki imarti or paneer jalebi as a lot of people would say .. this is what people cherish :)
- second is keeme ke samose :) .. not many people would know as most of the times by the time you would arrive both the things aka paneer imarti and keema samosa go extint :D
And yes both the things are for sure great ..

Few other things like habshi halwa, their samosas are also quite famous ..

All in all, great shop to enter the Matia Mahal gali and the best thing to mention is their hospitality .. not a lot of people would be a fan of the service at majority of restaurants but the owner here is really really jolly .. which makes the sweet shop makes it worth its name as well :)

It is located opposite to Jama Masjid (Gate no. 1). You can ask anybody coz it is quite popular. We went there specially to try their shahi tudka because we heard a lot about it. It totally fulfilled our expectations. Although it is loaded with calories but those calories are absolutely worth the out-of-the-world taste. They have many other tempting sweets as well. After shahi tukda, we ordered kheer which was equally delicious. The place is perfect for mithai lovers like us. You can variety of options and most of them seem delectable. Situated right opposite gate number 1 of Jama Masjid at the entrance of the " Mecca for meat lovers lane".

Perfect place to end the visit in the gali. Known especially for its shahi tukda. Served hot, overloaded with ghee. And if you watch him preparing the tukda for you, the order gets doubled. Not that good if you pack it and eat at home. Ideal way is feast in the restaurants in the gali, and have the tukda at the end inside the shop. Perfect way to end the trip.

Located in Bazaar Matia Mahal nar Jama Masjid, Kallan Sweets is a nice spot for anyone with a sweet tooth. Their Lassi is something is something that I have always liked and their Gulab Jamun is scrummy. This place was first recommended to me by a friend of mine who keeps on trying out the desi zaykas of the city and have always been a fan of Kallan Sweets.

Went here a few days back again and tried out the following-

Lassi

Kheer

Shahi Tukda

Although none of the items that I have tried out here taste unappetizing in any way, I guess some of it becomes way too sweet at times and that’s the only substantial complaint which I hold from Kallan Sweets.

Rest everything seems fine here.

Been eating from Kallan sweets ever since I moved to Delhi (that was over a decade ago!). I first read about this joint in "The Hindu" wherein the legendary street food connoisseur Rahul Verma had mentioned about their Karachi halwa. It was a tiny little shop back then but has grown into a nice and fancy-looking establishment over the years. I guess partly because of its strategic location - Bang in front of the iconic Jama Masjid and surrounded by all the landmark eating joints in the area. Thankfully, the quality and taste hasn't gone down much over the years. A foodie trip to Jama Masjid/Matia Mahal is definitely incomplete without paying a visit to this "shrine of desserts".

They shell out a whole variety of desserts - Phirni/Kheer, Rabri, badam milk, Karachi halwa, Shahi tukda, assortment of barfis/ladoos, jamuns, Kulfis, etc. Over the years, I've tried several of their offerings. Most notably, their shahi tukda deserves a mentions here. I've sampled this dish from a plethora of eating joints - ranging from road-side stalls/carts to plush restaurants and I can say with absolute certainty that the shahi-tukda here scores well above all others. What makes it different from other joints is the condensed milk/thick gooey cream added on top which imparts a very mellow flavour and melt-in-the-mouth texture. The sweetness level is perfectly balanced and even though rich in oil, the dish surely makes one's mouth go watery at the mere thought of it.

Their Karachi halwas, phirni, flavored milk and gulab jamuns are also good. Rabri is fresh and soft but a bit too sweet for my taste. The owner is a young lad who will gladly indulge in a light-hearted conversation and answer all your queries (which is a delightful change after dealing with the ever-scornful and rude waiters at Karim's).

Another dish served here which is on my list is the Paneer Jalebi, but we were told that it is served exclusively during the holy month of Ramzaan.

PS - The name "shahi tukda" can be contested because there appears to be a confusion due to lack of a clear boundary between shahi-tukda and double ka meetha (which is typically associated with Hyderabadi cuisine). I've been told by reputable sources that the "shahi tukda" typically sold on the streets of Delhi is actually double ka meetha or at most, a variation of it. Well, whatever the name, it surely tastes good. However, any insight into this nomenclature mystery will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Reviewing only for the Shahi tukda at this place.

We specially went to the Jama masjid area just to try out the shahi tukda they offer. But the sad part was we reached there around 12 pm and mostly the shahi tukda is available in the evening. I did'nt have any clue about this.

This place is bang opposite Gate number 1 of Jama Masjid, the corner most shop on the left hand side. I told the owner that we'd specially come to try out this delicacy and he humbly arranged it for us in 15 mins. We were served one serving of the Shahi tukda as soon as it reached the shop. And what followed was pure foodgasm.

It is possibly one of the richest most extraordinary desserts I've had in a very long time. Pieces of bread fried in ghee and then churned in sugar syrup, topped with a layer of creamy condensed milk sprinkled with cherries. You just CANNOT miss trying out this.
I was utterly delighted to savour the very first morsel of this ultra delish dessert they served that day. I even got it packed for home.

100gms or one serving of this is just for a meagre amount of ₹40.

Other than this, they also serve rabri, lassi, kesar dud, phirni and the bedmi poori & aloo looked ultra delicious. I wish i had appetite to try that as well but I'm surely going out next time to dig into that and of course the Shahi tukda.

After a walk into the narrow lanes of chandni chowk, trying out biryani and kebabs at some hole in the wall establishments we settled on kallan sweets as the provider for the last course of our street walk meal. Kallan is not a place hard to find, owing to its presence right across the Gate 1 of Jama Masjid and the strike contrast it has from it's neighbouring shops.
We started out by trying the kheer, which was pretty good and a very slight upgrade over what Karims has on offer. We moved on to the rabri next, which was awesome and which led to us not trying a lot of things because we deemed it necessary to stuff our faces and stomachs with this sweet cream of milk. Though we did not try a lot of things on this visit, our eyes did feast on their delicious looking desserts.
The guy serving us here also deserves a special mention because he was cheerful and terrible at making puns.
Kallan provides a great option for everyone who is in the area and dining at the two major food joints around it.

More popular for their keema kulcha and paneer jalebi during Ramadan, it is one of the most popular sweet shop in Jama masjid area. Although you may feel that post Ramadan there's a shortage of options and only regular sweets are available which you can get anywhere else as well. But the sweets and firni, halwa etc taste quite good and the staff is quite polite in behavior attracting a good crowd.

Update: Visited again, this time during Ramadan and could finally try their Ramadan special snacks. Keema samosa was not so impressive, paneer jalebi, however, was exquisite. Paneer pakode seemed good too. Worth a visit.

I visited this sweet shop during Ramzan as one of my friends read an article online somewhere mentioning Kallan Sweets and its famous Keema Samosa and Paneer Jalebi. So I tried both and I really liked the samosa. The jalebi was good too. You are supposed to dip the jalebi in sweetened milk and have it. It is hard to miss as you enter the street and it is right at the entrance.

Awesome place to start you food walk in Matia mahal street in Jama masjid area. Their Shahi tukda is a must try, probably the most authentic and tastiest one in the market.

We tried phirni, cold badam milk as well which were good.

After having chicken at karims and aslam chicken, we went to this place for some sweets.
We tried shahi tukada, phirani, jalebi.
Shahi tukada was just perfect. Not too sweet. But health conscious people be aware. It is full of fat and cholesterol. Phirani was ohk ohk. I was disappointed with jalebi. This might be because it was cold.
So it was good option for having some nice sweets.

Enjoyed evening walk during Ramadan with friends. This is the first spot you will land at a leaping distance from gates of Jama masjid. We tried Panner jalebi and keema samosa. Taste is tremendous. They dont have a glamorous seating, but loved to taste with culture of Chandini Chowk  buzzling roads

After having some delicious non veg main course in the very well known place exactly for it, i.e. Jama Masjid. We head to Kallan Sweets known for its "Shahi Tukda".
What is Shahi Tukda?
Shahi Tukda is a delicious blend of bread toasts that gets moist because it is mixed and cooked with thick milk and malai. At the end it is topped with a lot of sweet butter which makes this sweet dish perfectly melts in the mouth.
What else you need after having a delicious non veg main course followed by this melting nature dessert. Right?
Well, that's not it. You will get something else which is very much satisfactory as well. You get to know this great human being. A great person from within which you get to know instantly. That guy sits in the cash counter and serves the shahi tukda on his own. He asks for feedback and the gratitude you will recieve will make you leave the shop with all smiles.
If you want to have great sweet dish at reasonable rates hope good gestures. Then this is a place for you.

Paneer jalebi- simply catapult you out of this world.
And Rabri are to die for....
Though not much of variety offered but are very authentic especially the Karachi halwa.
And there are no words to describe the very friendly owner who would offer his sweets to taste for free and enlighten you with its history and tradition....
P.S. just ignore the lassi..

3 friends stumble out of Al Jawahar after gorging on some delicious mutton delicacies, craving for a sweet ending to the day's feast. We enter this shop as it is nearest to Al Jawahar with no walking involved.

We ordered some Shahi Tukda and what followed next was pure food orgasm!! The sight of pouring ghee over the Shahi Tukda is sinful. You realise you are taking a step closer to your next heart attack, content with the realisation that even if you die, you will die happy!!

The Shahi Tukda is simply the best that I have ever had anywhere!! No one even comes anywhere close!!

We also tried the kulfi and rabri here and they were equally wonderful. The owner was kind enough to offer us a paneer jalebi to have with the rabri and it was a delightful experience.

And there's nothing better than having food in a restaurant where the owner is a pleasure to chat with. Here also, the owner is extremely friendly which makes your culinary experience even more memorable.

The guy said they are planning to start an online website for delivering delicacies of Old Delhi across NCR region. I will definitely be one of the first people to order when the site opens!!

Can't wait for my next visit to this place.

perfect place to go after a hearty meal at karim's or al jawahar. Have sampled shahi tukda, phirni and moong dal halwa from here. Personally loved all of them thiugh some of my friends don't like the shahi tukda here, i find it very different and full of flavour as compared to the other places i have eaten this sweet. The attitude of the owner is polite which is a plus, he requests you to taste his preperations so that you get an idea, which I like very much.

My rating for this place is a mix of good taste and the people who lovingly serve it. After seeing this shop on t.v food shows I visited it. Unfortunately they weren't making the prized paneer jalebi but the boys behind the counter very lovingly offered samples of shahi tukra, gajar ka halwa and gulab jamuns. I hate shahi tukras...But these changed my opinion, super soft...perfect sweetness. I'm finicky about gajar ka halwa, and these guys are nearly the best in business. Must have! They offered us complimentary gulab jamuns a piece as a gesture...when is the last time a sweet shop did this!! I can't remember ! We ended up buying loads of gulab jamuns as well as they were super soft. Go for the lite brown ones instead of the darker ones as the former is much more softer. This shop is loaded with recognition which is common in that area. But their behavior left us with noteworthy memories uncommon among competitors.

Visit it every time I am in Delhi 6. It's my last morsel of the day of my visit. All the sweets from Rabdi, ras malai and shahi tukda are great. The place has got a big name to it because of the visits by some famous personalities earlier. Today I didn't find the ras malai to be up to the mark but rabdi was great. You can also try the lassi which has a unique taste to it. The place has got the essence of Old Delhi as it is located at the heart of it next to Jama Masjid's Gate no 1. I would suggest it to all the Delhiites and the Delhi bound people, you just can't miss it.

[7:57pm, 16/12/2014] anupmawadhwa aw: On 15.12.2014 my eyes opened to a virtual sweet reality existing for I don't know how many years on the edge of matia mahal. After finishing a superb meal at karim.'s as I and my family headed towards the parking at 11:00p.m all eyes fell on kallan sweets as members of the contigent were looking for more innovative and inspiring sweets to satiate their tastebuds inspite of gorging on karim's predictable kheer.Initially the contigent examined the exterior and gradually each member from 15yrs to 75 slipped inside the shop by the gracious invitation of the host/owner and the group was hooked onto kallan for life. What an amazing man who heads it- suave ,good looking ,handsome and speech as sweet as his sweets on the counters. The hot halwas of goond carrot moong, wheat and the wholesome sahi tukra. We were goaded to taste the fresh stufff never mind the calories and were treated like guests and not like customers maybe because it was past eleven at night
We had the most beautiful experience sampling the sweets which will stay with us for ever as I am rearing to head back never mind the waist line.An experience par excellence. Three cheers for kallan and long live kallan

I don’t have a sweet tooth. I am not addicted to sweets, and there are very few sweets that I really enjoy. But I solemnly declare that Kallan Sweets is the best sweet shop that I’ve ever been to.

You’re at Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi. You’ve just stepped out after a ravishing meal at Al Jawahar or Karims. You can barely walk, but are looking for the perfect dessert to seal off that epic meal into a memory that you can taste forever. Head straight to Kallan Sweets- located at the mouth of Gali Kababian, the lane that houses all these restaurants.

If you’re lucky, you’ll meet Naved, the humble and friendly host/ owner/ counter-keeper at Kallan Sweets. I met him for the first time at Eid this year, when I was madly hunting for Phirni sometime around midnight. Of course there wasn’t any left, but he treated me to some extraordinary gulab-jamuns that made my day.

For amorphous sweets that cannot be sold on a per piece basis, Naved is kind enough to let you taste them for free before you make up your mind. The man doesn’t understand that when you’ve tasted them, you’re even more confused because they’re all so damn good! This time I went straight to him after a splendid meal at Karim’s and asked for Shahi Tukda. What I had is possibly one of the richest most extraordinary desserts I’ve had in a really really long time. Talk to him about his store while you’re there, and he’ll happily fill you in with stories of his mom making sweets to give away to the poor, and how this small and modest sweet shop has become quite the topic of sweet-talk of among food journalists.

The subtle flavour of the habshi halwa after having the mutton delicacies from the nearby popular eatery is actually mandatory after you visit jama masjid! One of the best sweet shops in old Delhi, you must also try the famous "chandni chowk ki lassi" here which is served in earthen glasses with a thick layer of malai on top! Prime location, affordable and delicious, everyone must try this place!

Dis part of Delhi has something for vegetarians. ???? Rabri n gulab jamun is what I had. N indeed rabri was almost perfect if not perfect. The sweetness is subdued, stuff was seemingly fresh and wasn't cluttered. Even the people on the counter were friendly unlike many of the sweet shops. Surely one of the place I want to visit after spending hours on the steps of jama masjid.

After a lip smacking meal at karim's or al jawahar, your crave for a dessert could well end up here at this particular shop, Kallan sweets...I am surprised to see that the place hasn't been rated enough and also found just a single review for this place... A place like this must not be missed by the foodies.. This small shop is located at matia mahal(adjacent to al jawahar restaurant)..

I have been visiting karim's for past 8-9 years and always used to pass by this shop but never really bothered to check this place out until I saw this place on a TV show 'zaika India ka', the famous show by the legend Vinod Dua...I visited this shop a few years back and became their fan since then..

I am bound to visit this place whenever I go to Karim's or Al jawahar or Shabrati or changezi chicken at churiwalan..
The shop is famous for its tasty and something exceptional that you will not find anywhere else in Delhi but chandni chowk, the Habshi halwa.. The name may sound racist because it has got its name from its colour i.e. dark brown.. It resembles dhoda in look..The halwa is cooked in pure ghee and quite heavy.. it is cooked with patience for several hours and that is reflected in its awesome taste.. Though there is a shop in ballimaran, Haneef doodhwala(ahmed dairy) which is also famous for its Habshi halwa.. It is difficult to reach than kallan's but the halwa they serve is better than kallan's..
The shop also serves badaam milk, gulab jamun, kadhaai milk and gajar halw(esp in winters), shahi tukda and few other sweets as well.. The kadhai milk is a must have in winters..
The shahi tukda as the name suggests is 'royal' and tastes good.. contains lots of ghee and sugar.. Their badaam milk is also good..
After you have already eaten at karim's, there little room left for anything else... But passing by this place and ignoring it is difficult even if you have eaten to your neck.. Whatever little gaps left will be taken cared by sweets at kallan leaving no room even for water...

This shop is definitely worth a visit especially for those who love to eat sweets..

a fan of good food and you visit chandni chowk often, don't miss this place.
at such an excellent location what more can anyone ask for, situated directly in front of the main gate of jama masjid this place had something which attracted me. i had finished my meal at the famous KARIM's and so dessert after mutton is very necessary.

we tried many things at this place, badam milk, lassi and some sweet called shahi tukda.
the owner of the shop is so generous that he made us taste us 3-4 more sweets and all were delicious.

lassi was amazing, thick and nicely sweetened, and badam milk was also good.
and now this shahi tukda, it killed my senses about any other sweets. i don't think so i will be able to like any other sweet as much as i liked this one.
it was sweet and at the same time it was not very sweet, khoya was mixed with chashni so much that it was difficult to differentiate the taste.
overall this place is amazing and a must try whenever anyone visit chandni chowk and specially for Karim's

i am surely going to visit this place again.

As the title of my review "Really good sweets options at very reasonable price" is the whole story of the review in just one sentence. I have been here many times to calm my sweet tooth. They have lots of verity of halwa and sweets & the best part is that they are very reasonable at terms of prices. Just visit once and try there shahi tukra & gond halwa(made frim edible gum) but the sad thing is they sell this delicious Gond galwa in winters only. The LASSI is must have.

Reaching - Kallan Sweets is opposite to Delhi's Jama Masjid. Nearest metro station is Jama Masjid, it is walking distance of about 10 min from this metro station. Parking - No parking available, You will have to leave Your car very behind and You will definitely struggle to find parking. Kallan Sweets - Amazing balance of Sweetness and Flavours. Neither too sweet nor less, just perfect balance, Which is very rare to find. Every menu item is fresh. Very limited seating available. Must try the Gondd Halwa. A must visit sweet shop if you are visiting Old Delhi.

Came here as the last stop on a food tour. I was the only American, others were Indian or Thai. I was stuffed already but found myself going full force on the kheer served here. I don’t like rice pudding. It’s a weird gluey texture and usually lacks any defined flavor. But this was perfectly sweet and cardamom and cold in a small earthenware container that I couldn’t stop eating. My partner loved the lassi as well, pulled in a similar earthenware container that is common in India (for those of you foreigners like me worried about cleanliness. Probably not the biggest concern you should have.) they keep it in an ice chest that meant the lassi was full of that delicious cream fat on the top and ice cold on a 95 degree day. The sweets were good. The service in the shop was good. I’d come here again.

Great local deserts ... a shop that might not look like the typical glam sweet shops of north India ... it has been serving generations .. the sweets are traditional and the Rabri is outstanding I would definitely recommend it ... the place also serves multiple kinds of halwas if that is something you want to try

Best lassi you can grab in Delhi is available here. If you do get a chance, get a lassi in kullhad from this place! Won't disappoint you! Sip on the lassi and explore the golden khau gully of Delhi 6 from here. The customer service is very smooth and it is good! Good work! Reasonably well priced and well tasting sweets can be tried here too!
