Cosy tiny place ... Thalaivar serves excellent food... mutton ghee roast and appams were an absolute delight... prawn curry and rice ... another great dish... highly recommend for anyone looking for great South Indian spicy flavours!!!
It's a nice place serving authentic South Indian.
Loved the Chutneys. Ordered filter coffee which of full of flavor, kuzhi paniyaram which were baked perfectly crispy and masala dosa which is an all time favorite. The sambaar was amazing having a slight spicy touch to it.
This joint is a Kerela food paradise. It can make you dance just like its name on its food. Warm hostess Deepa is very well informed and helps you choose. We ordered appam with mutton ghee roast and rice with Thalaiver fish curry. Sipped filter coffe and a lemonade soda. It offers regular veg dosas and idlis too. Mildly sweet appam with tender mutton in its delicious curry was just needed to satisfy a hungry stomach. The spices in the curry were just right. Sole fish seasoned with turmeric complimented the rice perfectly. It is a coastal foodies delight for nothing can be more value for money and I am still drooling over its food. Must visit n times.
Great South Indian restaurant... we had visited the restaurant for an office get together... all of us had a great time... food was great and service was very good...
If you are in south delhi and love South Indian food do visit this place 😍
They are awesome and you will not regret eating here.
It's a hidden gem.. while a lot of places may be more rated but the food here is way better. Service is fantastic
Incredible food. Really authentic porotta, appam with some beautiful mutton roast and mutton stew.
10/10 bringing all my friends over here for another great experience!
Checked out this absolutely lovely place in hauz khas, Delhi. The ambience is breathtaking, and that's not even the best part. The mutton was soooo well cooked the mouth waters just looking at the pictures. Apt amount of spices and delicious tender mutton are the best combination. Would definitely recommend the Brownie choco late shake cuz that's the only one I had and it was truly delicious. The soft yet thin and crusty malabar paranthas were the real game changer. Not so heavy but very yummy! Huge thumbs up :) would love to visit again.
This place is lit🔥 they have authentic tamil and Kerala taste.. Loved it.. to all south indian non veg lovers.. this is for you
OMG this place is love! Pick anything on the menu and it tastes delish. I love coastal cuisine and if you do too then you would be frequenting this place often after trying it once. I ordered for roasted mutton with Malabar parota and my fiancé ordered for a chicken dosa and both the dishes were just so good! The mutton was so soft that it easily fell of the bone. And don’t even start me on the gravy! Loved the flavours it had. I’m definitely taking my mum here next for a Sunday brunch. It’s a small place so you might have to wait to get a table so plan your visit accordingly.
Ive tried the fish curry, mutton stew, appam, idli with ghassi curry, and all of the dishes were equally amazing, especially the mutton stew. I can never get enough of this place. Love the staff, the services the warmth and all the love. One of the best places in Delhi for some good malabari cuisine.
I went to this place just today and it has reopened on the new location... Right next to the old one. So we were really excited to check it out. Since it was during the evening we went to get a few snacks, first of all the ambience is really great with all of those picture frames on the wall and the Playlist is great. So we decided to order some filter coffee with milk, classic Hot chocolate and Masala Tea to drink. Then for some food we ordered dal vadas and a plain dosa as we wanted something light. Well we really enjoyed all of the beverages that we had ordered and the food was good as well. This place is a great place to hangout and grab some light snacks and drinks.
Food is excellent, authentic west coast dishes. Chef Andrew prepared exceptional mutton roast and appam with (chicken) koto gassi. Am visiting this place soon again.
I have been here only once.
I had tried their Roasts, Porota, Appams, and Keema Dosa.
The quantity is decent, value for money, ambience much better compared to other restaurant serving regional food. Their mutton dishes and Keema Dosa is a must try!
Thank you
One of the best Appam & Vegetable Kurma this side of the Malabar hills. Looking forward to going back to try more items. Not to be missed for lovers of authentic Kerala & Tamil Nadu cuisine.
It's the cheapest and the tastiest South Indian food I've tried. The taste is very very authentic. The seating area is small but really cute.
Their food is fantastic! Do try out their Parrota Combos! They are really really good..!
Over all I would rate this place 5/5. I thought the staff quality could be better!
Warm ambience, good service and delicious south Indian food. Located in the corner this is next to the Subway outlet in the Hauz Khas market. Decorated with plenty of Rajni portrait, this is a must for Rajni fans.
Good ambience. Yummy food. South Indians, do try. Definitely worth a visit.
The mutton curry was especially delicious.
Service was also really good.
This is an authentic South Indian place that serves amazing dishes. My personal favourite is the Appam with roast mutton. However, this place is more towards the pricier side. Most suited for that occassional extravagance. A must-try place especially if you love spicy dishes.
Such a nice place with pleasing staff...which takes good care of you as if you are queen .....and tempting food....yummylicious.The staff and especially the caretaker, Deepa makes you feel at home. She is warm ,caring & amiabĺe. The restaurant is done up in bright colours and has a pleasant ambience .A place you must visit . 5 star ratings.
Do visit people
It's a place where u get a nice blend of Kerala n Tamil cuisine ... Nanupodi chicken boneless , mutton stew and roast mutton are must try ... A tad expensive probably due to the location of the restaurant...but a place definitely worth trying out Ur palate.
I love this place, very testy food.Very friendly place,
lovely food. Be here with family and friend.
I love their Masala Dosa, Filter Coffee.
Thanks Subhash Sindhu
Thalaivar rocks as always🌿. Try mutton roast.very good place for all south indians to come relax and have a peacefull time. Really enjoyed a lot
Best place for all the south indian food lovers ! The food was amazing and good service too. Dont miss out the roasted mutton ! Thalaivar rocks🤓
This is an amazing restaurant that serves South Indian food situated near to my college ( that's an advantage as I can visit it everyday for my lunch ) . I really loved their unique recipes, some I tried for the first time in my life. I'll surely recommend it to all my college mates and people staying nearby as well.
Gone are the days where the restaurant owner thrives his business on developing relations with customers. However, this beautiful Kerala style cafe hidden away in a small pocket of the city has big heart and it shows. The owners are always present to suggest and serve you the authentic flavours of south, here in the north. Prawns Ghee Roast and Fried Chicken coated with delicious podi, will leave you craving for more. A plethora of delicacies from Kerala fill up the menu and offer amazing varieties to choose from.
Do not judge this place by it's decor and size! They have good authentic South Indian food!
You'll be a greeted by a lady, whom you should ask for recommendations!
The place has great non-veg South Indian food! We had appams and paratha with Coimbatore Curry and Thalaivar Fish Curry! Both the curries were extremely delicious, medium spiced and flavourful. The fish was very soft and had absolutely no smell.
I loved their Rasam. It was spicy and very sour. Opens up your senses!
End your meal with a cup of super strong filter coffee.
Overall the food was brilliant, just a tad bit expensive.
Great place for awesome South Indian (Tamil styled) food and comfy vibes. Especially recommend the Mysore masala dosa, idli, pepper chicken parota and filter coffee with milk. Delicious home-esque food! Awesome for a date if you have a South Indian partner {definitely gonna score some points ;)}
The most succulent mutton I've eaten in a while. Tried the Kerala parotta with mutton roast. (Must have - you won't get such professionally cooked mutton anywhere around and parotta was perfect and crisp- eat piping hot for the best experience). Really made my day :)
In addition to this , had the mutton keema dosa. Keema was really tangy and refreshing.
Dosa and sambhar can get a tad better- I imply that non-veg are their specialities.
Prices are a bit on the higher side, but the food is totally worth it! Highly recommended 👌😊
Very good food but the service is really slow.
Do try their homemade curries and the appam.
The homely atmosphere and the vibe make you feel comfortable and cozy.
Their parotta is to the point and they can make the preparation as per your spice tolerance.
Except for the slow service I'd like to revisit this place.
Tucked away in the corner of Hauz Khas market is this cozy little restaurant called @thalaivarrestaurant . You could easily miss it if you don't pay attention, but it isn't a place to be missed.
For the sterotypical North Indian, uninitiated in rich flavors and textures of the south; cuisine from @godsowncountrykerala might as well be: Masala Dosa, Idli, Sambhar, Uttapam, and for the adventurous there's always the option to go for the concoction called Chinese Dosa. (I wonder if any restaurants in China has something called Masala Chun Bing!) Anyway while China decides if they should serve Potato Masala as an option to Duck and Pancakes; I'm so glad I decided to explore this place.
We ordered a bunch of things; there was Chicken Keema Uttapam, Fried egg on an Appam with chicken ham and masala, Kerala parotta with Roasted Mutton, and sweet Seviyyan Payasam to finish off the meal!
With food so authentic including non veg variety I'm really surprised at why hasn't Thaliavar had it's due of fame yet. About time we change that. Calling out all fellow #foodies in #newdelhi you must visit this place. @shuchirsuri @anjali__batra @foodtalkindia @jamsessionindia @manavkhanna77 @jasjitkochhar

Amazingly delicious food. Authentic kerala taste, which is very difficult to find in Delhi. Served very beautifully. Loved the place. Neat and clean place and nice ambience
Visited this place on a calm Saturday afternoon. It's a small, simple, cool and relaxed place with great South Indian food. I had Vegetable Uttapam & Plan Dosa, and found them equally good. I would love to visit this place again.
Doesn't matter if you are a south indian or north indian, you will love the food from here
I got to eat real south indian flavored food after a long gap . Their ambiance and atmosphere felt like home and i loved their foods to the fullest :)
Will visit again soon .
This place was on my list for quite a while now, very close to my place, a sweet little place tucked away in Hauz khas market beside subway.
And god it was worth the wait, the food was awesome. Had one of the best South Indian chicken curry with rice, I had coimbatore chicken curry. There chicken 65 was a different version altogether, not the usual taste you get at any other joint, but a happy blast of confusing flavours in your mouth that leaves you surprised.
And the beetroot chutney deserves a special mention, it was unlike any other I have had anywhere . Definitely gonna be frequented by me to try other stuff.
Keep up the good work.
The best South Indian food in Delhi 💙
The taste, the staff the ambiance everything is so beautiful.
Special mention: they serve the best chutneys
I simply loved this place. Their mutton keema dosa would be loved by anyone who is non-vegetarian. They also have some unique items, like the masala egg ham appam. This was again delicious, with a generous amount of cheese in it. The chutneys and sambar served was quite fresh and well-seasoned. They offer a good variety of chutneys as well, including what I think is a beetroot one. I have not been this excited about a restaurant for a while, and can't wait to try out other items on their menu.

I was so busy eating that I took no photos 😱
Landed at this place to celebrate Onam with my darling mallu friend. The place is remarkably quirky with odes to Rajnikanth and after a while with the good food we kinda got into thr groove and came up with our own puns and meme worthy jokes.
We tried mutton stew and fish with appams - the appams were soft and curries delightfully spicy. All in all a super cool place and good experience.
Did I mention all the meals are made to order and fresh?
Recently moved to Delhi and discovered this gem. Closest food to authentic South Indian fare I have experienced so far. Deepa was warm and took particular care to ensure the food was as we liked it. Portions could be slightly better but that's just me trying to be a hard critic. Would definitely be coming here more often and also recommending the place.
U can gt Affordable & tasty madrassi non veg food from thus outlet. Do try dere mutton biryani. Ugly yellow walls can give you paranoia at nyt. Sitting is avg like every waer else in delhi.
A Kashmiri running a great South Indian restaurant. Hmmm. It shows the love of the cuisine and does reflect the same in the food that’s served. A small cozy place in Hauz khas main market. This has been a great find.
We loved the stew and the mutton Uppam, the prawn curry, dosa, the interesting dips.
Must try!!
Great ambiance, nice and friendly little place, the menu is full of variety, one of the few places having keema dosas and actual tamarind rice. Not a big fan of the coffee though, could be better! Changing the rating after having had the appam & vegetable curry.
Crisp and delicious👍 Non greasy unlike some dosas. All of the items we chose were good and the coconut chutney had a smoky flavour-taste to it which i liked.
Superb food ... very different from traditional south indian food ,, appam with fish curry and roasted mutton as main dishes and nannu podi chicken as starters are must try.. can skip d desserts though..
The food was amazing ! The decor is cute !
And the lady serving the food is super sweet !
I would definitely recommend this place and would love to visit again :D
I ordered Mysore malasa dose it was the best dose I had, my father ordered paneer dosa again awsm. And the most most yummy dish I had was rasam and vada❤❤ . I must say the best rasam I had . Do visit it guys ull all will definitely love it.😊😊
Nice South Indian place in Haus Khas. Different from all the other mainstream South Indian places in Delhi. Authentic food and authentic taste.
The mutton is explicit (must have), paniyaram, vada, rasam and sambar are all delicious.
We also had the egg appam and tomato rice and it was all delicious. The woman managing the place was very helpful and courteous.
Will definitely go again.
Great place for a south Indian meal. The manager/owner had some brilliant suggestions. Amazing Mutton roast and appam! Must try the Kuzhi Pariyaram on the menu. It's very clean, hygienic and cosy.
Awesome place where food is served with great smile n passion by owner..
All the food items are delicious specially chicken biryani, uttapam and lip smacking chutneys
Few suggestions : do serve sambhar with uttapam and biryani quantity is tooo less compared to price
Very authentic, very tasty food for the soul! Worth a repeat trip! The place is tucked in a small corner in Hauz Khas market, but the food they serve will just blow you away! A friend introduced me to this place and I’m glad to write this review, albeit late. Nevertheless, if you like South Indian vegetarian or non vegetarian meals, this is the place.
We LOVE the Nanu Podi Chicken. The Appam and Mutton Roast is pretty great. I like that it's light on the stomach but still quite filling. This is one place to order from if you want good South Indian Non-Vegetarian food.
We tried Thalaivar for the first time on 06 June 2018 (Bill# 109768) and have no hesitation to openly admit that each and every dish that we took were great, freshly cooked, extremely tasty and very well presented. If you love nonveg must try Appam with Mutton as the taste and aroma of spices is right into each piece of mutton. My cousins took various / different dish and each and everyone appreciated on quantity, quality, taste and were very well presented.
In nut shell it's the ultimate place where one gets good & absolute authentic Malyali food at reasonable price and sha remai their loyal customer and will be regularly visiting with friends & relatives.
Mutton stew and mutton roast are amazing. Been here a few times and the food has always been fabulous!! Will recommend them for good South Indian food anytime
There are places that are so good with what they do that you almost want them to make a mistake. Thalaivar is such a place.
Delhi is not particularly known for affordable South Indian non-vegetarian places. Before Thalaivar came into picture, there was Swagath in a slightly higher category, or we had the star-graded places. Alternatively, you sneak into good'ol Kerala joints here and there, but they wouldn't treat you with other delicacies from other regions such as Chettinad, Bombay Karnataka or Rayalseema for example. Thalaivar filled up that vacuum, and how.
It's a symbiotic mix of tradition and quirkiness, and that sets the ball rolling. Starters are all good, with Chicken in Nanu Podi taking the pole position. Other items such as Chicken 65 and Keema Vada are all done to perfection.
Their Appams are a revelation. Egg Appam is especially something to die for. So are the non-vegetarian Utthappams. It also helps that their repertoire of Chutneys are simply amazing: smooth with balanced flavour and great consistency.
However, it is in the main course that this place leaves others for dead. Their Appam and Rice combos, where you can select a dish to go with Appam or Rice, are simply mind blowing. Pepper Chicken, Mutton Curry, Mutton Roast, Fish Ghassi, everything is perfect. They have recently started serving Malabar Parotta too, and trust me they serve the best one that there is.
I have returned to this place numerous times, and have been left satisfied every single time. I don't think I can say this for any other place. The key to this perfection is the fact that they don't compromise the taste to appease to the Punjabis and Banias who rule the roost here. And till the time they resist this urge, and stick to authenticity, they will flourish.
A small note for the owner. An extremely amiable lady runs the place, and she does so with an equal amount of grace and aplomb. She mostly takes orders herself, and keeps and eye on the dish while it is being prepared. Not to mention she shows extreme patience at the face of everything that our uncouth city throws at her.
Way to go.
One of the few places in delhi serving authentic kerala cuisine. Having discovered the place few months back, i have been a frequent. Thalaivar is a place my entire family loves.. the mutton roast and coimbatore chicken curry is divine. The keema dosa is the attraction and the nanu podi chicken gives a blast of flavours . A must place to visit
Rasa Vada is their speciality, a must must try!! It is one of the best places in south delhi for amazing South Indian food. The staff is friendly and humble too!
What a content meal at Thalaivar. The food is too too good. I am definitely coming back with friends and family here. We ordered Appam with Mutton Roast, Chicken and Mutton Dosas, Chicken 65 and Nanu Podi followed by Filter Coffee. The taste of every dish was so perfect and is value for money too. The mutton roast literally melts in your mouth. If you are a fan of South Indian food this place is a must try. Loved every bit of it.
My 2nd visit to this place and hands down this place never dissapoints. Amazing taste . Super menu and to top it all a super friendy owner who takes care of every table personally... Loved it
And the mutton rost is out of this world 🤩🤩🤩...
Kerala soul food . Serves traditionals not found commonly elsewhere e.g. appam n chicken stew. Need to order desert early or you will have to wait for it ! Has usual favs like curd rice etc - colourful and cosy place with homely touch . Interesting decor .
just noticed this quiet eatery in Haus khas market and got tempted to try the south Indian food. ok I did immediately CHK few Zomato reviews n decided to hv a mutton dosa
loved d food ambience n service. really appreciate the good work this small team is doing ..
visiting again soon.
mutton dosa appam Kurma.. chutneys all were bang on taste. sambhar was bit off my taste.
even the cold coffee was perfect . thoroughly enjoyed
I generally don't write reviews but I couldn't resist myself from writing one. Appam with Thalaivar Fish Curry is the best Fish curry I have ever had. Appam with Roast Mutton and Nanu podu chicken boneless were phenomenal. Chocolate Dosa for dessert was delicious. I am really happy that I found this place. 100% satisfied with the heavenly taste of dishes served here. I would definitely visit this place again...!!
I had been in this outlet several times. The best outlet for those who love South Indian dishes.Uttapam varieties are really good.Good service.
My South Indian friend recommend this South Indian outlet to me . I visited this outlet with him. And he ordered Mysore masala dosa. It was awesome and Sambhar was good. Service and food both were excellent.
They definitely serve one of the tastiest mutton dosa, if you believe in quality food rather than fancy settings and more feel based interior then this is a perfect place for you.
The South Indian food junkie in me made me walk all the way from Hauz Khas Metro Station to Hauz Khas market in search of this place, and once I got here, I fully realised the worth of my effort.
This little joint specialises in items which you ordinarily wouldn’t find on the menus of most South Indian places. Kuzhipaniyaram, those rice and dal dumplings for instance, are a rarity. They serve them with 4 types of delicious chutneys, as they serve all their other items. My favourite is the beetroot coconut chutney, not only because they’ve managed to make beetroot taste good, but also because it looks gorgeous. I have tried their cheese dosa, which is stuffed with mozzarella and garlic and is almost impossible for one person to finish on his own. Then, my friend’s quite fond of their keema dosa. I’m not a huge fan of sweet lassi but I really like theirs.
The staff is very polite and friendly. You can see them cooking in the kitchen, and you will notice that the kitchen is very clean too. The vibe of the place is nice and bill is not heavy on your pocket. Recommended.
Been few times here, comfort food, and every time Deepa and Andrew raise the bar. Only part missing, which I have raised every time, is the Malabar paranthas!!
Tried the appams with prawn curry and fish curry, a keema dosa, tomato rice and chicken 65 - everything was freshly made and delicious, the interiors are bright and sunny and the owners attention made all the difference - after years we got authentic freshly made Tamil - Kerala style of food the chutneys with the dosa are brilliant a trad coconut chutney a mint chutney a heavenly tomato chutney and a divine beetroot coconut chutney - makes us want to go back and back again : the best sambar one could get in Delhi
Definitely a good place for South Indian Food. Yes, the food was not consistent initially, but they have improved a lot. Overall, very satisfied with the food and service.
Food is little expensive, but I don't mind paying more for good food.
Let me be honest... I am biased towards any cuisine that is spicy, flavourful and satiating. On these parameters alone, Thalaivar hits all the taste buttons. Like schoolkids out on a surreptitious outing, the five of us (four from the deep south and one from Haridwar but now a complete Punju) ordered all that we thought was good. And... we were not disappointed... Appams. Mutton stew, Thalivar Fish Curry, Prawn Curry, Roast prawns, Fish Coconut curry and Mutton Roast plus filter coffee, were served up, fresh as can be from the open kitchen. The piece de resistance was undoubtedly the Mutton roast... subtly flavoured with cinnamon, pepper and oodles of chilli, moist with goodness and enough buzz to get the forehead glistening with beads of perspiration... almost as good as the blokes on the corner of the Tiruchirapalli Railway Station.... please go there... it's well worth the scramble up those precipitous steps and... most of all, the welcome from Deepa and Dicku (her husband and chef) is genuine and wholesome, just like the delicious fare that they gave us a couple of days ago.
Its really nice..appam was so fluffy and tasty 😋.. nice ambience and staffs are nice too👍
Decent South Indian restaurants with colorful ambience . The service is pretty good and food was yummilicious. We ordered for cheese chilli dosa, I was skeptical about the taste and thought it must be loaded with cheese and might be heavy, but to my surprise it has only required amount of cheese and was very tasty. Idli muchurian and peach ice tea. The Ice tea has authentic taste of fruit and seems no syrup was added. So if you want to try a South Indian restaurant with a twist, must try please
Absolutely great food, no frills and yet so fresh food,at a very reasonable price, the price is quite reasonable too, do try the keema filled dosa and appam combos, the sambhar is excellent to, overall worth a visit.
Food is definitely good and there are no two ways about it. But it is also relatively expensive when compared to the contemporary south indian restaurants like Sarvana Bhavan etc. Dosa is similar to that of Sarvana Bhavan. Iced tea is overrated and was sour in taste. Ginger lemonade was better.
A cosy restaurant with a live kitchen. Food is good and fresh. Liked the small veg plate (in pic), can't remember the name. The appam with special veg curry was also delectable.
Excellent place and very affordable for two folks. The food is so well done, well spiced, big portions and the loveliest thing is the staff. Very friendly, prompt and fast. Lovely interiors too.
Good food and service. Nice ambience too.
Chilly idli was excellent, cheese uthappam not that much. Overall worth going.
Amazingly tasty food. Kerala rice with khori ghassi is a must try.
Tasty and colorful!
Traditional South Indian food!
I left the place satisfied and full!
And the staff is a great mood!
Prices are good and not overrated, the place is nice and not outdated.
Although my dosa wasn't as I expected, the other meals were really great as Ive planned.
Place is very conveniently located. Plenty of parking. Tried booking for a table online for Friday evening. However it was showing no availability on all apps. Still took a chance and went there. Was surprised to find that we were the only diners there . Place is small and cozy with good ambience. Very hospitable staff. Seating was comfortable. There appams and chicken curry were good . Very homely taste. Recommend for a good South Indian food.
South Indian restaurant with a twist. They have a good, non intrusive ambience and friendly staff. Their Non veg items are especially delectable. The highlight though is the four chutneys they offer.. The choice for deserts is limited, nevertheless worth trying. I like the place for its reasonable pricing, no-nonsense menu, decent location and parking outside is an added advantage. Especially good for a quite and sumptuous dinner
