Well well well, a good place which gives a feeling of nostalgia... limited menu but good service all over. But, but My recent experience with the quality was not good. I tried cutlet and potato fries and of course coffee. Talking about the place, the loo outside the gate always stinks badly. Please find a table as far as possible from the gate.
Earlier there were sitting facilities outside also, which had a much better appeal but now it is removed. You can sit only inside the hall. Mostly crowded and noisy.
Really like the place situated on the edge of outer Connaught ring. At first I was not impressed as the place is quite like olden time canteens but when I ordered the coffee and food, it was too good. The filter coffee was perfect, strong and smooth, dosa was good and veg noodles were amazing. The outdoor area (terrace) made me felt that this is a perfect place in winters and in rains.
Had Coffee and Cutlets at Indian Coffee House, Connaught Place
My experience- the place seems to be the ever favourite of the septuagenarians as it carries vintage vibes and delivers flavours of British India. You could see old men having a cup of coffee and discussing current politics. The rooftop ambience is nice.
.
Simplicity is the charm here. The coffee and the cutlets devoured were delicious. Plus, the food doesn't make a hole in your pockets.
.
The only issue is that the service is kind of slow. They work at their own speed and hence a bit uncourteous at times. But overall, a nice experience. Nice Coffee at affordable prices.
.
See this beautiful view, its literally its USP its in the heart of delhi and its been opened for more than 25years!❤️
It has that old fashioned vibe which isn’t here in this modern era now ,i enjoy peace here with a cup of special coffee by wonderful staff who have been working here from a long time and their smile and uniform will make your day. If you are lucky enough to catch sunset here then its your day😋
Good place to eat at a very affordable price.
The quality of food and beverages are good.
I had uttapam and noodles .liked the quantity as well as the taste of the food .
Service was quite nice.
It’s more like a canteen. I fall short out of words while describing this place. I’ve read several blogs about the history of this place and it kind of fascinates me. This place has existed for the past 50 years and this coffee house comes under a chain of 400 coffee houses. The ambiance of this place might not be something that you'd imagine but it has its own charm. You won't find food like theirs anywhere else and that too at such affordable prices. Their south Indian food and filter coffee is something that everyone should try at least once in their life. After exploring CP, this is the perfect place for you to binge eat with small bucks.
The Old School ICH stands apart from the funky cafes & bars in CP.
Must have Special Coffee, Veg Cutlets and Paneer Pakodas.
P.S the helpers here dressed in the Air India Mascot uniforms, giving you the 70s vibe !!
One of the Best Breakfast Places in Delhi.
.
I had absolutely no idea about their quality untill I visited the Indian Coffee House for the first time to feature this place in my video of " Legends of Delhi" (YouTube - Spiceler{ Link in Bio}). The moment I entered their kitchen it was altogether a different atmosphere in there. It was clean and the hygiene standards were good too.
Above all the taste surpriced me the most, the flavor and the preparation of the dishes was simply amazing 😍.
.
Loved the experience to the core.
Ended up spending more then 2 hours there.
.
What a Legendary place!
.
📰Story of Indian Coffee House!
The first outlet – then named ‘India Coffee House’ – opened in Churchgate, Mumbai in 1936, and was operated by the Indian Coffee Board. Even though coffee had been grown by ’ of this particular chain came from the fact that most coffee houses existing at the time were British-run, and discriminated against locals.

This place is best for students because of the price. I love there coffee and jam toast.
Delhi’s famous Adda’ the Indian Coffee House better known as ICH is an ordinary coffee shop amidst the fancy restaurants of Connaught Place. Those who don’t know about this place might miss its presence. However, I was lucky enough to be introduced to this place by my mother. Since 1957, this place has been popular amongst the intellectuals, politicians, scholars and students. This happened to be my mom’s favourite hangout place as well. She used to travel all the way from Delhi University’s North campus to have their amazing coffee and toast along with her friends.
Hey guys, so today I just visited this beautiful restaurant. The food was truly amazing, the ambiance was very cool, the staff was friendly. The food was pocket friendly and was truly amazing.
Great place, old era feel. Very cheap rates and with this rate, whatever they are serving tastes really good. You've gotta to visit here Atleast once!
Nothing fancy, an age old restaurant still got the classic coffee taste. A courteous staff and mouth watering dishes that fit right in you budget. Kudos to this place.
This place is very economical . I ordered 5 items and all that costed me only 352 rs only. You can avoid the coffee here though the place name is Indian Coffee House. I liked the butter masala dosa and the the egg Chowmein and sandwich were average.
But this place has its own charm . The rooftop seating and the traditional dress of the servers gives a nice touch to the place.
The place gives a very "office canteen" vibe. The food is decently flavorful. The quantity is good and the prices are super cheap! The cold coffee was the best of all!
Your typical place to go if you want good food, decent ambience for discussion and something which is not too heavy on your pocket.
The quality of the food is high and it tastes good. The quantity is decent. Service wise, they do a satisfactory job.
Recommended.
Went there because it was a very famous place. You can go if you want to have food in budget. Food is average. Place is bit smelly
Simple place, simple food.
Good food, service. Prices are reasonable too.
This is not just a restaurant, it is an institution of great quality food and a time when everything was simple, it also offers a piece of history.
This place has kept the tradition of great food and long lasting conversations alive, not many eateries have done so.
It is extremely pocket friendly, offers a glimpse of nostalgia and very quick service.
If you havent been here yet, put it in your bucket list. Well worth a visit.
I was in cp and visited this place and the place is perfect to visit in Winters to enjoy your coffee and sandwiches and specially as your breakfast, they also have a very large sitting area, so if you want to have some economic meal or you are coffee lover, this place is definitely for you.
This is undoubtly the best coffee shop which reminds you of our legacy and it's relation to the time of emergency(1975).
They serve you the best coffee, full of love and caffine,we also tried the veg cutlet and the paneer pakodas which will definetly remind you of your home in case you stay away from your family.
Much love and regards to the Indian Coffee house.
It's highly-highly recommended!
After hearing all about the Emergency related stories affiliated to this establishment, a sudden plan finally led me to this place. The ambience, well, situated on the roof of a building in CP, you’re going to find yourself climbing up three flights of stairs due to the broken lift. On entering, you’ll find yourself in a dilapidated room, reminiscent of old DU canteens, and people around you chattering away on topics ranging from philosophy to astronomy. Mind you, there’s no AC here.
The menu has a few basic items. We ordered vegetable cutlets, cold coffee, cold coffee with ice cream, keema omelette, and finger chips. The order took barely 5-7 minutes to arrive, and honestly we couldn’t pinpoint a single fault in the food.
The keema omelette was amazing and I’m a sucker for broad finger chips. The cold coffee was really tasty as well. To top it off, the entire meal cost us just 435 rupees !
I understand that the place has a history, but I believe they should at least renovate it to make it a bit more appealing to its customers. They’re slowly losing their charm and going into a loss. Shaking things up won’t hurt.
5 stars for the food, service and the charm.
Nice ambience and gives a very retro feel of the nineties. The place is not very hygienic and the restroom is in a bad condition. I've heard it's a noisy place but when I went it was pretty chill.
Must try mutton dosa and cold coffee. Very peaceful and vintage feel. The staff is polite and generous. Food was on point and worth the price.
Went here for the first time for a meeting purpose. We were around ten people and they managed us quit well. We had veg cutlets, hot & cold coffee, idli-sambhar, Veg sandwich. All items were fresh and tasted good. Prices are reasonable. Nothing fancy about the ambience just normal decent sitting to have some good and reasonable food.
It is a nice place, although its ambience is not very nice since it is a old place, but taste wise you'll love it. Their quantity is also generous and you can visit this place when you are in CP and dont want to burn a hole in your pocket.
Old is gold!
Simple yet the best!
Visited this place after soo long and nothing changed, tried
Veg sandwich 5/5
Omelette 5/5
Cold coffee 5/5
Saada dosa 5/5
Lemon squash 5/5
This is definitely recommended opd charm, cold coffee is a must.
"So simple yet so charming." This is all I would like to say about this place. I went there with my friend, we ordered 2 cold coffee and veg biryani.. (I know who orders a veg biryani😂 but they didn't have chicken in the menu! Anyway) the food is simple and delicious, they served sambhar and dahi with the biryani. The staff is very polite. They have removed the outdoor seating, but you can take a good walk over there as they have plenty of space. A must visit place if you are in Delhi.❤️
Pocket friendly cafe in CP, best place for students, food is tasty, do try their coffee and cutlet. You don't have to wait as it's a very spacious cafe.
The cafe was established in 1957 so it is a bit of old style place. The food is really very tasty. I tried their cold coffee, masala dosa and MUTTON CUTLET. Mutton Cutlet costs ₹65/- and is really very tasty. This place is a must visit. All the items in the food menu are really cheap but really tasty.
Est. in 1957 this small roof top cafe has been my favourite for quite some time now. The food here is simple but satisfying. If you are looking for a place to have a quick bite without burning a hole in your pocket this is where you should be headed, specially in a place like CP where everything is overpriced.
My favourites are Mutton Cutlet, Egg Sandwiches, Chicken Chowmien, and Mutton biryani. They have a long menu for you to choose from. The service is quick, food is fresh and tasty. Next time you're in CP, do visit this cafe.
This place is nostalgia with old days charm.. In the afternoon will notice old people having food and long chats in this place.. We had our usual in a recent Delhi visit.. Mutton cutlet and coffee..we love their mutton cutlet..the ambience is old.. Laid back atmosphere.. Value for money and taste is 4.5/5..definite worth a visit :)
Ambience is good, ancient kind of but sometimes old is nice. Famous for its coffee and the food is all good looking at the brilliant prizes even in this expensive era.
Sometimes half of the things from the menu are not available but whatever is, it's good. Quiet place to spend some alone time or with family and friends.
I have an old attachment with this place. Me and my friends use to hang out here very offen. In the middle of the month when we were broke and had very less pocket money we use to come here and eat stomach filled. Love its dosa and ice coffee and cutlet. Even it's special coffee is something I would die for. Very nice and old place with outside sitting as well.
I ordered a paneer dosa and full plate chowmien over there, the quantity was really good. Also the prices were really affordable but the taste was not so good. The place has nice and peaceful ambience. If you want to eat junk food at an affordable price then I definitely recommend this place.
Love this place. With canteen style this place has its charm. The food is not too fancy but it’s delicious. This place is a good find around CP
For those who still crave for retro style canteens and food servings, this is the place. Located in CP, this place has that special feeling in its ambience which attracts the most. Every dish here is lip- smacking. Also the open terrace gives off really positive vibes. It's Cold coffee is insanely tasty. A must try. With friendly staff, this place is one of the best in town.
This place takes you to older times... The ambience takes us to that, its simple, its basic, its comfortable. You will see the waiters wearing white dress and white headcap, as seen in old bollywood movies. You can see people reading/writing/debating/meeting there... Nice place to hangout with friends, they have seating in open terrace also.
The food is super cheap, hyegenic and tasty. MUST TRY.
This place will never lose its charm. They serve the best coffee in affordable range but i advise you not to compare it with your CCD or Starbucks. This place reeks of British India in the way the old uncle serving the coffee wears a turban and the way that there's still a plate-cup system. A must visit for everyone.
This one here is the perfect destination for food lovers and taste appreciators . Cost efficient , good customer service , marvelous taste and everything a good lover needs .
The best place to have food within a budget. The taste, the service and the price are just the best thing about this place. We ordered for French Toast, that is so good! Also the others in the menu like mutton cutlet, egg chowmein, hot coffee, cold coffee, dosa and cheese sandwich are also the good ones. Really love the place!
Been there on a rainy day, this place is known for it's past it has been serving breakfast since 1957 at a very reasonable price, so it has that charm for it's legacy. Now the main thing is food they actually serve really good south indian dishes their Paneer Dosa and Cheese Omlete is really good. Also had thier noodles and burger which was just OK nothing too special about that. Must try their coffee, they had large varieties of them.
The sweetest place in town for having a coffee and enjoying that Retro golden Era of the 80's.
This place is simply amazing.
People of any age group can enjoy this place.
Just have some snacks sitting on those old desks and pull a chair outside that hall with your Coffee to have a look at the Inner and outer Circle.
This a hidden gem for food and peace. The food here is very inexpensive and has brilliant taste. The staff here is old fashioned and gives you the perfect feel of the past decade. This place withholds the essence of when it was started. A must for every Indian to go. We loved this place, it's simplicity and mouthwatering food and the courteous staff.
Eating My Way Through Cities
+4
Looking for a place with good dosa and cold coffee? Indian Coffee House is your thing, then. I tend to avoid this place during hot afternoons though. But it is idyllic during the Delhi winters.
Also tried some variety of omlettes and found them to to be okay but the biryani, not so much.
Try this place if you are also an old school. Price very reasonable . The most important that I liked is their ambience . They have an open roof area also . They give a feeling like you are in 70s or 80s . Coffee, mutton burger, chowmien, dosa are my personal favourites.
Indian coffee house. This place is an absolute gem of a place. So old world charm upon entering this place . It's simplicity strucks you the second you enter here there is no hurry here just sit back and relax do your thing and enjoy your coffee.
Coming to food it's tasty as well as pocket friendly
They have excellent variety of coffee the best I ever had 😍😍
And special mention for the staff who are excellent in their service will come again 😇
Taste 4.5/5
Ambiance 5/5
Value for money 5/5
Services and hygiene 4/5
Indian coffee house;
We went for breakfast here, had masala dosa, chowmein and hot special coffee.
Masala dosa was perfectly prepared.
Extremely delicious and easy on pocket.
Chowmein were good too.
The food at this place is economic and the taste is really good. You can have a nice view of Connaught place from the roof adjacent to the dining area. The only place their lacking is the speed of service mostly due to high number of customers otherwise it's really good place to hangout with your family or friends.
I really appreciate this place for remaining so authentic and unique. The rooftop and ambience makes it a lot special. The food was great but I think that they have scope of improving the prices of their coffees and improving their 'saambhar'.
19th February 2023
Went there
Ordered finger chips, special coffee and veg burger.
It was good....worth the price.
Total cost Rs 240.
The ambience was very good and I enjoyed my snacks while reading a book.
Just saw the ratings people had given and i am surprised how it's possible.. How it's rating is below 4.. It's very budget friendly restaurant in CP. And the ambience of restaurant is amazing.. You will find group of old people in very jolly and peaceful mood... I can't express my feelings for this restaurant...
90s style Indian cafeteria. It's so peaceful here. Their coffee ☕ is must. Price friendly.
South - Indian cuisine is good ✨
U will love the simplicity 💯
This place serves the best keema dosa and keema chowmein. The ambience is simple and the staff is quick and very responsive. The best place to grab a quick snack when in CP. They do not serve anything chicken. The only options are veg, egg and mutton. They also have a few beverages to choose from. They have two sitting areas; one is an AC room and the other is without AC. Also, one thing to keep in mind is that it is located on the 2nd floor and you will have to take the stairs to reach there as there is no elevator.
Today, we visited here and ordered Hot coffee, Veg cutlet and One egg omlette. This Coffee house is in third floor there is no lift facility. Nice seating area and clam place for everyone. This is one of the oldest coffee house in delhi. Veg cutlet is so tasty and crispy.
Nice place with old touch in appearance and taste of food is also good both options are available. In break fast and menu is budget friendly. Environment is good.
Affordable cafe with a classic feel. Staff is responsive and service is good. Taste is average.
I had ordered veg grill sandwich and taste was awesome. I didn't have cash that's why i didn't ordered any other item.
No UPI payment available only Cash and card payment accepted. this is the only -ve feedback from my side.
I visited this place for first time after so much hype and honestly I have mix feels.
The food was nice, Dosa was crisp, fresh and even coffee and cutlet was good too, price wise as well it was quite decent but building's lift was not working... stairs had running water, vibe is of 90s for sure with a quite old build n the moment u enter you can see it from eyes.
So overall I like to rate it 7/10, if u wanna visit then definitely go a check.
