One of the best biryanis I ever had. Really good pupil with good quality food. The mutton korma and other curry items are also very good. Love to be there, its a paradise for non veg lovers.
Read about this place on the web.. I was a little disappointed on seeing the condition and the hygiene standards.. But the food here is amazing. I have had chicken biryani from a number of eateries but this one surely tops the list. A must try for biryani lovers.

As a food blogger I would love to give 5/5 star to this unbeatable Britani shop. I shop which was opened in 1965 is an amazing combination of taste and worth. You can't stop yourself having the most delicious mutton briyani -5/5 (₹700/kg) and mutton korma -5/5 (₹600/kg). Undoubtedly the combination of both is marvelous and you can't beat the taste with tangi achari which is mixed in Britani. They will make fresh Britani infront of you uncouple of minutes (usually 30-45 minutes for one kg) But as there is a place of improvement in everything. Things which can improve is initially you should some liquid siders with briyani so that it won't taste dry. Sitting arrangements are not provided for having food at the same. No air conditioner system is there. But yes if you want to feeding you stomach with best appetite, must visit this place.
This place is my go to for Biryani in high quantities. I’ve bought Biryani and chicken korma from here so so many times! And every time it turns out to be so good.
I haven’t given 5 stars bcuz the food is quite oily.
But I must say, this place is greattt and soo affordable!
I’ve served Biryani from here to several guests and everyone says that the preparation is so so good.
I’ve tried both the chicken and mutton korma and it’s delicious. It has a true authentic taste, total comfort food.
The quantity they give is soo good that we eat to our hearts content for dinner and still have a lot left for later as well.

Located in the Matka Peer Dargah near Pragati Maidan Gate No 6., Babu Shahi Bawarchi serves some original dishes which dates back to the Mughal Kitchens of the 17th century. A must have location for having some authentic and yummy Biryani in Delhi. All the items are cooked in huge containers in the open and patrons buy in quantities measured in kilograms.
Pros:
1. Location is excellent - right beside the Pragati Maidan Gate No 6 in Matka Peer Dargah (the last shop)
2. Taste - excellent, nothing you can come across even in some 5 star restaurants
3. Limited menu - Chicken/Mutton Biryani, Korma, Kabab's and Rumali Roti
4. Biryani is sold as Kilos - lots of Kilos (ideal for parties at home)
5. Biryani is also available by plate (Chicken Biryani - Rs. 480 per kg, Mutton Biryani - Rs. 600 per kg)
6. Parking area for around 5-6 cars in the open
Cons:
1. Very limited stock - order early as stock gets over before 5 PM
2. Serves only for lunch
3. Don't ask for Raita etc. - you wont get it here though they serve some chutney
4. Its basically a take away - so only couple of tables available
5. Vegetarians - look somewhere else for food
Overall a must have biryani joint in Delhi though many people in Delhi are not aware of it's existence. And yes they are closed on Tuesdays.

Great "Mutton & Chicken Korma" and fabulous yummy flavour of Briyani. It's a paradise for non-veg. foodies. I suggest everyone should try at least one time. There is no space for sitting but taste and quality are awesome.
This one is a hidden gem near the craft museum in pragati maidan.
The food is well made and hygienic.
This is juiciest biryani I had till date. The chicken pieces were very very soft and juicy. They also serve dahi pudhina chutney with onions with biriyani or you can also have a plate of korma to make to make it taste more "shahi".
Galouti kababs is for just ₹20 per pc however they taste like kababs.
They do not have a lavish ambience, the order is served in car but they do have SHAHI taste.

After arriving to this restaurant, i found out it was not a restaurant but a take away outlet which looked quite old. But when i tried mutton kebab roll, i felt like 'wow' this is what i wanted. Then i tried biryani & korma which were also upto the mark. All the dishes were well prepared with balanced taste of spices. Thr prices are also very cheap for all items. Since then i have visited it a number of times especially when i get disappointed by other restaurants 😜

I don't often visit this place but I have seen this place since last 6-7 years. The taste hasn't changed and every time you eat the Biryani, it definitely satisfies your soul.
Cannot compare it with Hyderabadi or Bengali Dum biryani, but this one is no less than the other style of Biryani preparation.
One thing I liked is they will cook the Biryani in different small containers which adds up to the consistency of spices, flavor and evenly cooked meat.
Don't miss kababs with rumali roti..
The place is very traditional and definitely has hygiene concerns. But my urge to taste the food overwhelmed those concerns. They only serve Biriyani and Korma. The biriyani was Mughlai style very traditional with good amount of meat. But the rice grains are a bit of a concern, perhaps I was expecting better quality of rice to be served. Overall it tasted good with the appropriate spices and the meat. Quantity wise one has to buy at least half kilo. Half kilo biriyani will have half kilo meat with a lot of rice. The Chicken Korma was amazing, go for it. Half kilo chicken biriyani is just for Rs. 280, which can be eaten by 4-6 people.

And Finally, it was the time to feast on all those Mughlai dishes they had.
Well, I was expecting Seekh Kebabs and Rumali Roti's but to my bad, there was none.
They only serve Biryani and Korma, or should i say, they only have Takeaway service.
If you are planning to visit this place, then do make a note that they, don't provide any dine-in service.
We ordered Chicken Biryani and Chicken Korma :-
They serve all their dishes in two quantity scales : Half and One Kilogram.
So, let's start -
Chicken Biryani : Those large rice grains, with good amount of meat in it. Loaded, with lots of bay leafs, and dry red chillies. Also, you can taste green chillies pickle in it (the one, you can basically notice in Moradabadi Biryani).
We, ordered Half Kilogram one, and you would be glad that they basically categorize the biryani with the amount of meat they use in it.
For Example : A Half kilo. Biryani will have half kilo. chicken in it, with hell lot of rice. You can see that in the pics attached, That yellow bowl is what we are left with when we ate a lot, and are still left with this much quantity.
Chicken Korma : Amazing!! A single word to describe my experience. Perfect taste, perfectly marinated soft chicken. That Korma, made my day.
Again you will getting Korma in two variants Half/One Kilo. quantity.

However, an overall rating of 3.5, as this place is only meant for takeaways and I went on to explore the food, and was bit upset when they told me that they don't have any dine-in option. Also, they don't serve Kebabs and Rumali's anymore.

Well, If you are planning for a get-together or any Non-Veg feast with a total of 5-6 people and within a budget of 1000 bucks. Then, you are at right place.
Value for money, Will Surely Visit this place again, but only for a takeaway.
A burst of taste at the most unexpected place. The menu ends before it starts but the food does justice to the money spent. Many may not like the ambience but if you want to get your food packed or just drop in with colleagues for a quick lunch, this is one of the best options.
Coming to the food, Biryani is decent. What stands out is the qorma and kebab. The galouti kebab is not the traditional one, but quite nice to munch on. Freshness of the food cannot be questioned.
Overall a decent place if you want a quick grab with colleagues or friends.
Well this place is located near pragati maidan and is hard to find.
Once you are there, you are almost in food heaven. The place is tiny and is pocket friendly. They take bulk orders but you need to tell them in advance.

I had chicken biryani, well it's really tasty. Something great if you are bored of traditional butter chicken etc. You can find the flavour in every strain of rice. And yes the quantity is huge. If you are a fan of hygiene, go for take away option.

Okay, so after ages I got a chance to taste their amazing biryani, the chicken and mutton biryani still has the same aroma and taste and the quantity is huge. Half portion of chicken and mutton biryani are sufficient for 6-8 people. Well prepared rice juicy meat is the essence of this place. It's better you place your order by calling up and booking your slot. Biryani is cooked only at 1230 pm and 430 pm else it's leftovers. Kebab role is quite poor and does not taste like gualati Kebab, korma is just okayish.
It's right next to pragati maidan entrance located in a small gated area, a little difficult to spot.
The best biryani in town. Prepared on order. The rice is beautifully cooked and the chicken just perfect. The spices are in the right proportion. Not a spicy biryani. This is the best biryani in town. Hands down

Was returning from CP and was very hungry..I wanted to have a good biryani so went to Babu Khan to get a good Chicken Biryani..I have been having Chicken/Mutton Biryani from this place for almost 8-10 years now...i love his biryani..The rice is nice,long,fluffy and fragrant..Chicken is cooked perfectly along with a perfect Salan/Curry for which you have to pay extra..It is the way in which the rice is cooked that makes the biryani so good..I have been a regular costumer and will remain one always..If you want to only have a GREAT biryani please try this one out! 😍😍😍
Babu Shahi Bawarchi is very famous for its non veg delicacies. I had heard a lot about its authentic Mughlai style delicacies & wanted to try them all. The menu is quite precise, offering Chicken Biryani, Chicken korma, Mutton Biryani, Mutton Korma and one or two more.
We had Chicken Biryani & Gulati kabab in Rumali Roti (Roll). They include chilly pickle in their Biryanis to give them a peculiar taste. You will have satisfactory tongue & tummy full in just 100 bucks!
The ambiance, however, is not that cool & fancy and you may not like to sit and have it. In any case, take away is always an option. You must try this eatery out!

Had Chicken biryani and Chicken korma. There is a Billboard at this place that says, "Naa khayi Biryani toh hasrat rahegi, zubaan ko hamesha shikayat rahegi". In bloggers language,it means that your palate shall be disappointed 😁😂👏🏻
Hence we tried this biryani, no disappointment at all. The biryani is full of colors and spices, yellow and white fragnant rice with morsel of chicken cooked with traditional spices. This is one of best mughlai biryani delhi has to offer!!
They also take bulk orders, do remember them if any house party on the cards. Your Zabaan shall not be disappointed either ways 😬😂

This place is awesome.. hidden near the dargah and near to pragati maidan gat no.4, this place has one of the authentic kind of biryani and kebabs that you have ever tasted.. the place looks unhygienic in its own way but the taste of food is really good.. very hard to locate ane very few people know about this.. the plus point is that you can him the raw material and he will cook the biryani for you in the traditional awadhi way.. the kebabs are also a delight to have

After reading a lot of reviews i just wanted to have there biryani . so i just went here on wednesday to give it a try . and really the biryani was good , chicken korma was yummy and the galauti kabab were just melting in the mouth ... i just loved galauti kababs.....and will visit again for sure for both , but the biryani was not upto the mark .. it just ahd two little chunks of chicken pieces and the kesar was used too much in it... u will hv to order chicken korma with biryani to eat.. so this way ull hv both a good amount of biryani and chicken too.. biryani was 70rs plate , chicken korma was 60 rs plate and galauti kabab was 20 rs per piece . rumali roti is made in front of you and it was of rs 5 only...
Pro TIP: their are atleast 4 biryaniwallas at Matkapeer, Go for the one closest to the Dargah steps.
Seating arrangement: 2 plastic tables with 10 plastic chairs with umbrella above. As you might imagine, it is a no-frill eating place, while you may always opt for takeaway.
Menu: Chicken/mutton biryani, kebabs, rolls, Korma-roti, etc. I would rate 3/5 on menu.
Quality: Though the food is on oily-hot side, but still one of the best biryanis I have tasted. It uses good rice, chicken and sabut-masalas. You can always ask for your favourite part of chicken!! I would rate 4/5 on taste.
Hygiene: This is a bit of a concern, though not much. As its an open eatery, so flies and insects and dogs are around. I would rate 3/5 on hygiene.

This was a surprise stopover. Was stuck-up in a traffic jam and the hunger bite took me here. There are couple of guys around selling similar stuff, checking around realised this was the main biryani guy and regulars coming for a takeaway confirmed it:).
It’s a shack of a place but guys remember you have come for the food and not to get overwhelmed with the surroundings and that’s why the takeaway is more popular with south Delhi crowd. While eating came to know a guy sitting alongside had especially come from Rohini to pick stuff for a family function.
Tried the chicken biryani decent with all the flavours and masalas but an overdose of saffron colour, have tasted better though; nothing exceptional wow. Also the galouti Kebab was succulent and had all flavours but was apprehensive of the oil used, hence every bite kept bothering me (:. Chicken Korma was well made and best of the lot. Recommended
Mutton biryani and Kurma is made on order or available on weekends only, so missed it.

Popularly known as Matka Peer, Babu Shahi Barwarchi is famous for its Biryani, specially Mutton Biryani. Biryani sealed in handis and prepared just the way it should be, you can’t ask for more. Babu Shahi Bawarchni prepare their Biryani as it was during the Mughal days. You can sense the Mughlai taste in their Biryani.
The place is more of a takeaway and they sell Biryani by Kilo. One kg of Biryani will cost you approximately Rs 500. It’s not a fancy place, but don’t go by the looks, the food is simply outstanding.

If some one asks me chose between a hot babe and a hot plate of galauti kebabs, i would chose the latter (i like girls though :) and this love of mine took me to this place. Early warnings about the look and feel of the place made sure that I dont get overwhelmed by the lack of infrastructure but concentrate on what I was here for. I tried the kebabs and mutton biryani.
The kebabs - Have you ever been to heaven ? yes they were heavenly, sensuously sitting on a paper plate in front of me and my mouth salivating, the moment i took my first bite after soaking in its aroma, all the spices and richness of the dish started tintillating my taste buds as if teasing me. Truly melt in the mouth. Not spicy but packed enough punch to make you feel the heat.
The Biryani - the biryani looked and was gloriously fragrant with infusion of saffron , some stock, mutton and lots of (special secret) spices as they told me. the chunks of mutton were cooked to a perfection, neither fibrous nor raw, just like the rice which was firm and was a delight to eat. I could peel of the meat with much ease.

Few days back to celebrete a happy reunion of family ,the head of our family ordered some dishes on phone and I went to collect them in our own utensils as the Biriyani sellers told us that they did not provide any kind of packing arrangements .Amaizement seized me and cat caught my toungue when I saw the arangement there .Every dish was made to suite the need of the customers.This was not a modern resturant but something of a totally different concept.No seating area was provided .Takeaway prefered here .Vareity was not a priority here but quality and quantity.

A distinctively flavoured Biryani is what you get at Babu Shahi Bawarchi. This is due to the mixed pickle which he mixes in his Biryani which gives it a uniquely tangy flavour. Probably not appealable to everybody's palate (took me some time to start liking it as well, since I prefer Lucknow Biryani any day). But still, definitely worth a try so as to find out for yourself whether you would like to come back. Mutton Korma is also good. Rolls and Kababs are average and not worth it.
This is not a place for a family to go and have food sitting there. But it is a great place to get the food home especially having l party with several people fond of eating Mughlai style mutton dishes. They prepare the items on order in Kilos and you need to get it picked. One day notice for a large order is needed. I have had eaten the Kormas, kababs and biryanis a few times. Although the food is good but the taste is not consistent. And obviously they have almost nothing for vegetarians.
The best chicken biryani I have ever had! Perfect blend of all the amazing spices, the chicken is tender and the rice smells superb! The place looks filthy but again it ain't meant for dine in! People come from far off places to get their orders! They package it by weight. And to go with that order Mutton Korma!

Babu Shah Bawarchi's biryani, also known by the name Matka Peer biryani is a small yet intriguing place for people who love biryani. The place wont won't appeal to many, well, just because it looks filthy. Tried their chicken biryani(which was amazing) and chicken egg roll (which got strict thumbs down from all my brethren from work who love gorging on chicken). The aroma of the biryani was captivating and was cooked to perfection. Would love go there again.P.S.: The place doesn't provide any shelter to vegetarians.
Babu Khan shahi Bawarchi is not merely a shop owner but an institution. Though it is hole in a wall kind of place but the aroma and the taste of Biryani will beat even the best restaurants hands down. Mutton pieces in Biryani are juicy and tender while the rice is fluffy. However if you are a health freak then avoid this place as hygiene is pathetic. The Quality of Chicken and Mutton Korma has deteriorated. Still it is a pilgrimage for all authentic Biryani lovers!!

Old timers would swear by Babu Shahi Bawarchi. You wouldn't be surprised to find luxury cars waiting for their order. Superb food and good old way of preparation. My favourite is chicken biryani and Mutton Korma. The portion is too large and served in kilograms !! Yes you read right. Its served in KG. Don't go looking for hygiene though. You would be disappointed. Nicely tucked behind Masjid Matka Peer this place is revelation. No frills. Just place your order on telephone( no over the counter delivery) and bear their intone to receive the order( no home delivery either ). Place order atleast by 10-11 for lunch and by 3 o clock for dinner. Do try without being judgemental of location.

Babu Shahi is one of Delhi's best kept secrets. Initially run by the man himself, the catering has now been taken over and run by his progenies and if my parents are to believed, it's nowhere as good as the original deal.
However, I choose to disagree.
Babu Shahi has on offer the most succulent galauti kebab and galauti rolls, along with Korma and biryani by the plate, if you're dropping unannounnced. For those of you, looking for a reliable name for catering, they offer biryani, korma and kebabs by the kilo. A kilo of biryani is sold by taking in one kilo uncooked rice and one kilo raw mutton/chicken- which when cooked, produces close to three-three and a half kilo biryani. It's a great option for birthdays and family get-togethers given how consistently good their food is.
The only drawback being that they go far too easy with the animal fat/oil and that is a bit of a nuisance, especially while eating the Korma. If you can deal with running oil in your plate, then this place is golden. Also, if you're going for an impromptu scene for a meal, make sure you're not too picky about ambience cause this place will be a let down. There is nothing really to look forward to except for crows in the compound of the Dargah which hosts Babu Shahi Bawarchi.
A Must visit place for biryani lovers ...mutton biryani is well cooked and from the aroma only,one cant resist himself...thumbs up for this place

Simplicity at its best-the apt description of Babu Shahi Bawarchi. A small menu comprising of very well known dishes and recreated almost perfectly every time you go there.
Whether a biryani fanatic or not, one has to try the biryani here at least once. More than often in a bid create something unique and out of the box, many restaurants, cooks, joints go a bit over the top with the biryani and forget what the essence of the dish, but at Babu khan the flavors are subtle, easy on the taste buds, meat is well cooked, rice of top quality and the final product unmatched. I am not a big fan of rice, mostly avoid it whenever I can, but the biryani here always gets to me.
Chicken korma and mutton korma both are very high on taste as well as overall appeal of the dish. The gravy boasts of a host of authentic mughlai spices and vegetables with a generous but necessary amount of oil in it.
I have had galauti kabab here only once and as I recall it was fairly decent, nothing extraordinary- good flavors as a whole, nicely minced meat with no chunks.
If you look at the value for money then its massive. Really massive considering the prices, quantity of the final dish and taste and looks of the dishes. The food from here is best enjoyed at home with family and friends.
Babu khan is long gone, i used to regulary order from him, as he grew old, the standard of biryani had fallen too, later after he was no more the shop had closed down too.
Thereafter it restarted, but i did not try it out for long, the people making the dishes are the cooks trained by babu khan, and i only tried it out recently, their biryani is right upto the mark, 440 rs for i kg of rice and 1 kg of chickn, (kg is calculated before preparation) which once prepared becomes 3-4 kgs is pretty good to taste, nor is the oii used heavy, nor is the rice in the biryani watery which many joints keep in order to increase the weight.
If u wish ti separately try a plate, they sell it for rs 50 and serve it in a disposable plate with a disposable spoon, they sell korma etc on order too
