This place has many memories!
Before it was a simple canteen & food was "fish like home"
Jakoi came n revamped the whole uber look & Assamese chic!
Baankaahi comes with a simplistic theme, but the menu makes u juggle between old favorites n new curiosity.
The Thalis have got the Essence bang on!!!
With a menu flaunting from Assamese to mising, I think they have really done a good job
I ordered out of temptation the mix meat thali , while mom went for the fish one!!
Starting with Khar, which is a appetizers, along with kharoli, all of which is a part of the axomia cuisine, makes the feel so very authentic. The Mati Dal went wonder fully with the mashed potatoes , the fish tenga made of tomato, was note by note accurate to what you have at traditional homes!
The pork fry which otherwise always takes the centre stage! Was equally challenged by the tasty mutton chops! & Mashed fish n potatoes!!
The fish thali was equally heavy n tasty , with extensive fish n mustard & mashed fish n potatoes!!
The complimentary rice made it feel nice but after having such massive qtys, it was a scoop to many!
To he end the dish we had had koni kheer! Which is made out of rice so small in size , that it looks like a sugar cube, found only in the banks of Brahmaputra!!
It was meal that kept us wanting for more!!
Plan to visit soon n try other items!!
If you want to taste authentic Assamese food, this restaurant is the best place to go. Situated in Assam Bhavan, it is well maintained and is hygienic unlike the other restaurants offering Assamese cuisine. There are various thalis which you can try or even go for a la carte options. I visit this place whenever I feel homesick in terms of food.
