Like other afghani resturants there, good dining experience. Tried chopan kebab, its price is low here as compared to other afghani resturants there. Polite stuffs.
Finger licking Biryani . U will visit often if u go their even once ... Very pocket friendly for casual foodies. Good seating arrangement .
The dishes are very delicious cooked and a delight to the tongue. Had the opportunity to have kebab chopan and kadhai chicken chicken was so taste and delicious prepared in light spicey Afghani style, sitting arrangements are good and comfortable for family visits...
This place is really great
For afghani food
The mutton boti is served in this steel rod and it is really very tasty
This naan is also amazing
And so is the mutton pulao they serve
The meat inside is just amazing
it is a must visit when visit to Delhi
Rates are very economical and seating arrangement is spacious
Must try chopan kebab, gosht kebab and kofta curry (which is prepared in eggplant and other vegetable thick curry)
They give complimentary Afghan naan with each dish you order and the tea is also free of cost after the meal.
The staff is polite as well.
Amazing food..
Nice ambience..
Loved the complimentary rajma..
only the service is little slow.. will surely visit again for the non vegetarian delicacies..
Read an article about Afghani settlement in Delhi wherein this restaurant was mentioned, saw the pics of their food and immediately decided to go here today. Absolutely no regret.
We had qabuli uzbeki -Afghani Biriyani with berries, carrots and tender mutton pieces. It had a very feel good taste to it, the mutton pieces just fell apart in mouth and the sweet berries added a different dimension to the whole dish. We had it with ghosht yakhni- served in two bowls, one with the broth and one with the stewed mutton and vegetables. Soulfood aptly describes it.
We also ordered kabab chopan and ghosht tikka kabab which are basically grilled mutton, with the only difference being that the first one has boneless mutton pieces while the latter consists of mutton ribs and other bone in mutton pieces from the chest area. Both tasted very good, with the mild seasoning letting us savour proper meat flavour which is often masked in Indian kababs due to heavy seasoning.
They served all of these with complimentary kidney beans gravy and Afghani naan. The only disappointment was the naan which didn't seem fresh and were also very chewy. But everything else, complimented by the good service, definitely made up for it.
One of the most delicious food experience. Anyone who so ever go to Lajpat Nagar must try in these restaurants.A new experience of Afghan foods
BEST PLACE FOR AFGHANI FOOD !!! could have not started this review without this statement. I am a huge non-veg lover and this place gave me a whole new palate of taste. I tried their Qabuli Pulao, Kabab Chopan
and Qaborgha Kabab. I have never had mutton of such good quality at any of the places that I have been to. Mutton was very well cooked, properly done, tender and juicy. Best part they don't use spices which doesn't alter with the taste of mutton and gives you the complete taste of the meat. They serve you kidney beans, breads and green tea along with the food. It was a never forgetting experience for me and I would visit this place every time I am in Delhi. Summary: Great food, generous portion size, good quality and very easy on the pocket. Do visit this place at least once.
The most authentic place to go and have Afghani food. This gully has a lot of Afghani food joints, but the oldest and the most authentic in the lane is this one, despite not being the most 'modern' and good decor.
Uzbeki Pulao from here is the best in the city not just the street, and it cannot get more authentic than this.
The authentic Afghani cuisine and the ambience is quite traditional. Run by Afghans, i am drooling writing this review. I still have the taste of the kabuli pulao and yakhni. What I love about Afghani cuisine is the yogurt drink with fine bits of cucumber. I loved it, you must visit
We visited Kabul Delhi on Xmas day for lunch. Ordered Qabul Uzbeki, salatah nd Chicken Chopan. They brought two mugs of green tea free of charge as well as beans, bread. Surprisingly it did not take much time. We were served within 15 - 20 minutes. They have veg option also. Drop in if You visit Lajpat nagar. Food was mild. No spices. Really different from whatever we eat everyday. Friend found kebab dry. She wanted to have some gravy. I am gonna visit in future to try other food items.

Visited this small yet decent eatery in Lajpat Nagar 2 market for some #Afghani food and loved what is being served here .. Kabul Delhi Restaurant presents some authentic supper yummy Afghani & Uzbeki delicacies without any indian touch for the authenticity of the taste .. we ordered Uzbeki Qabuli a kind of biryani with large melt in mouth pieces of mutton, afghani mutton kofta and Chopaan lamb kebab all of which were so delicious đ, plus they make their own version of chaach called dough which is filled with dried mint and chunks of cucumber (must try) and Afghani bread both i found very tasty .. portions are quite large and filling .. definitely gonna visit this market more often for Afghani food đ.
.
Went there for lunch as Im a frequenter everytime Im in Lajpat Nagar must say that their Qablu Uzbeki is a must try with its tasty flaky meat and the topping of raisin and carrots unlike the Indian Biryani focus is on content rather than flavour ,their Borani Banjan is also very nice , it is eggplant dip roasted and then topped with a tomato sauce and yogurt very yummy ! Now coming to the chicken choppan or chicken with bone the flavour was good but not as expected .
I would rate this as a hidden gem. Visiting the place is an absolute treat, both cultural and gastronomic. A must visit for non-vegetarian food. you'll crave to visit it again.

Really good food available in Lajpat Nagar , Perfectly priced and quality of food was great . Mutton Kebab and mutton Biryani is must have . Its One of the best i have had in this area .
This place is especially for authentic afghani food. Pulao with mutton korma is something which I tried. The taste was nice. Not too spicy but yummy. Courteous staff and good Ambience.
It's Good place to hang out with friends, who love to have proper non veg food with good desi taste. For me mutton biryani was awesome.. The quality of mutton was really very good... Thanks a lot guyz.
In the heart of lajpat Nagar central market is this Afghan Restaurant. A must try restaurant if you want to have some great and authentic Afghan food. Had Mutton Kabuli Uzbeki with there authentic bread and red beans curry. Mutton was soft and tender and Uzbeki pulao were tasty and beautiful. Don't expect spicy food here. One of the best things is if you order one thing, the bread is free and their are no taxes. And extra half point for their pocket friendly prices.
Being an indian i missed spices. But i felt this is how afghani food must be. Ordered kabragha tikka nd for the first time I liked mutton in any form . The chicken in chicken quorma was very tender with sweet tomato gravy. The highlight of the meal was afgani breads , the reason i went there for. Overall a good xperience that include knowing culture with meal

Authentic Afghani food.
They seriously brought Kabul in heart of Delhi. Place was crowded with Afghani people. Decor also make u feel tat u are in Some afghani place. We ordered Mutton Korma that came with 2 Afghani Naan. Then out of curiosity we also ordered Afghani Pulao which was filled with dry fruits and good quantity of Mutton. That too came with an Afghani naan and Delhi's fav Rajma as complimentary. If you are a Mutton lover this is the best place to go. Taste is little sweet. Drop your mom, sister, gfs and wife and hog awesome food over heređœ.
Of all the Afghan Restaurants in Lajpat Nagar, Kabul Delhi is another most reputed name. It is known for its Afghani Naan. It must be mentioned that the Afghani Naan is entirely different from the nornaml Naan that you get in delhi. Afghani Naan is made with a yeast-kneaded dough with milk added to it. And the best part, they serve Kabuli Naan (Afghani Naan) as complimentary. They also serve Afghani Lassi, salted butter-milk flavored with Afghani spices and herbs. Besides its authentic Afghani food, the restaurant has nice ambience and skilled staff. The restaurant has a single page menu listed in English and Dari (Afghan) language. The place serves Afghan food slightly different from others.
I ordered non veg food . food was oki but freshness was not good .place was oki and staff member's here very co-operative and friendly.....
Kabul Delhi Restaurant serves a more or less authentic version of Afghan food, and while the quality is debatable, some dishes do stand out. I visited the place as part of a group and we ordered these items:
 - Chopan kebab.
- Gosht tikka kebab.
- Korma kofta. Very interesting.
- Uzbeki pulao. Unusual rice texture, excellent dish.
- Kabuli pulao.
- Mantu. Disappointing - dumplings topped with a yoghurt-based sauce.
Highlight: since the vegetarian side dishes served with the pulaos had run out, we were served two portions of an excellent mutton curry of some sort. We also ended up getting a lot of bread, served with almost every dish we ordered.
The service was excellent. The servers not only recommended alternatives when items on the menu were not available, but also brought us the food quickly and were otherwise very helpful. Overall, I enjoyed the meal, though I agree that some of the dishes could have been better.
Quick delivery! The Uzbeki pulao is simple non spicy and yet provides this comfort and satisfaction I cannot explain. The mutton was tender, flavorful and fell in the 'melt in the mouth' category. Tried the mantu which was ok. Will definitely order the uzbeki again. Sorry couldn't get photos, the food vanished coz we were famished :p
I love the uzbeki biryani here which has salt, raisins, tender mutton, rice and carrot. Other thing to order is chopan which is tender meat and salt with is juicy. As food is bland so it's for people who like taste of individual ingredients not only spices. Since it is run by Afghan refugees I believe they serve authentic afghani cuisine which is definitely breeze for some compared to indian food with lot of spices

Serving a fine variety of Afghani cuisine items, Kabul Delhi is a place where non-vegetarians will be treated with exotic flavors and a likeable food quality. While their seating area isnât much alluring, their food surely doesnât disappoint and can make you visit it again. I came to know about this place through a friend of mine who keeps coming here quite often and decided to check it out one day.
Placed a takeaway order for the following here-
-Mutton Qorma
-Chicken Chopan
-Kabuli Pulao
The mutton pieces were a bit chewy but the taste was good. The Chicken also tasted fine and the pulao had a decent portion size.
A nice one for the non-vegetarians of Lajpat Nagar.

Mantu....Mantu..mantu....fell in love with the dish!! Tender dumplings of mutton with dal and curd on top..the flavours were yum. Delicately spiced, just perfect and light on the stomach too. Also tried their Qaborghs Kebabs which were again yummilicious esp along with the in house green chutney that had a heathy flavour of garlic! A must visit place if u like Afgan food...I'll surely go their again cos I missed out on the phirni this time ( they ran out of it)

The other day, I was shopping in Lajpat Nagar market. Shopping makes me feel really hungry. After my shopping I wanted to have some nice food. Though Lajpat Nagar market has a variety of restaurants and food joints, I thought of trying one of the Afghani restaurants nearby. I went to Kabul restaurant and ordered chicken (Afghani Rotis were complementary). I don't have much knowledge about how Afghani food is, but the food that I had there was a bit different and very tasty. They didn't use much masala in the chicken, and hence it was light and healthy for the stomach.

Most of the people know that Afghanistan is famous for its Afghan Jalebis (all thanks to Katrina Kaif) but only a few know that their native Kabuli Biryani is also a hidden gem. Popped into Kabul Delhi a few days back as I had heard a lot about their extensive range of non veg stuff and exotic biryanis. It is located near the Central Market of Lajpat Nagar 2 and serves a fine variety of Non Veg food. Although it seems to have a capacious seating space, I did not find their interiors very good looking. Their food tasted good though and eventually that is what really matters.
I tried the following items here-
Kabab Choppan- Tender texture and properly stuffed. Had a fine taste.
Turkish Salad- A filling one with a decent taste.
Mutton Qorma- Had a spicy gravy and tasted good with the rotis.
Kabuli Biryani- My favorite one of the evening. From the smell to the taste, everything about this biryani was pretty good.
Shammi Kebab- Not a very good one as I found it a bit unflavored.Â
Chicken Tikka- An above average preparation. Have had better ones earlier.
In the end, Kabul Delhi ultimately managed to be a good restaurant for me. Except for the Shami Kebab and Chicken Tikka which tasted nothing too good, everything else seemed to be fine here.Â
Also, I would recommend them to enhance the lightings and interiors a bit.
A fine experience overall!
The food this place serves is quite yummy. Not many places in Delhi serve authentic Afghani food. Plus it's cheap. Now those were the pros. The one thing that really brings this place down is the shady ambience and lack of proper air conditioning.
The restaurant just blends in the vicinity, which when you enter, you feel for an instance that you have entered some market area in Kabul, Afghanistan. I went inside with a group of friends and we could easily see people sipping tea or kahwah, and chatting in their local language. We saw posters of afghani culture, natural beauty and national heroes on the wall, and the entire experience I must say, for some time, made us forget that we were inside one of the busiest market areas in Delhi, India. For the food we ordered, Kabab Chopan and Mutton Qorma and Turkish salad. Little warning to all the spicy food lovers, you will be disappointed, but learn to live with the fact that not all food needs to be spicy to be delicious, and yet here it was ! Overall a 4 for the amazing dining experience ! Do try the tea !
Though cleaner than the neighbouring Afghan Darbar the food didn't match up. The mutton kebabs were garlicky, the chicken yakhni under seasoned and the bread not fresh.
We ordered the Shaami kebab to make sure we hadn't missed anything and those were tender and beautifully spiced. Did it save the day?! Not.
Great service and clean interiors. Tasty cucumber lassi.
If you are really interested in authentic food straight from Kabul, this is the place that brings you the flavours, ingredients and the quantity of a true kabuli. Very reasonably priced, the place is great for a nice meal. Good and clean food.Â
Must tries are the Kabuli Biryani, the mutton korma and also the rajma. The kababs are out of the world... amazing place to fulfill gastronomy. :)
I go there regularly.
If you are looking for authentic afghani cuisine, very few options are available in NCR. Kabul Delhi is one of the best options you can opt for lip smacking and juicy kebabs and gravy. Afghan locals chatting in there native language, moving in an out of the place, grills and rotisserie all over, Kabul Tv aired on the tv screen, and The ambience will make u feel you are in an eatery in Afghanistan. Try The basement option of sitting crosslegged on a carpet raised platform as u indulge in sipping some complementary  black tea served for free.
now coming to the food, the menu is not very vast and provide only afghan food with a very limited veg. options. I ordered my favourite chicken chopan kabab served with salad. Most of the kebabs are grilled with lil spice, but trust me you will enjoy the taste of the meat even without spices. its equally healthy and tasty.the chicken is neither  raw nor over grilled. bread is served for free. In veg we also ordered beans(rajma) which is prepared very differently from indian rajma. I could figure its prepared in red curry with normal spices and dry fruits. this time i have to settle with plain rice called "chalao" instead of my favourite yakhni pulao bcoz of my veg partner. Afghani chicken with naan and Uzbeki pulao is also a must try. Dont forget to grab a bottle full of lassi to wash down your throat with this succulent and filling meal.
Good place.Little difficult to spot it.prices are reasonable.mutton curry is good and pulao is a must try item.dont expect great ambience .just go there and enjoy food.
Today I went to this shop with my friends and try some afghan foods , trust me it was really awesome and tasty no one will disappointed with this food for sure
Popped into this restaurant looking for some afghani cuisine and trust me you won't be disappointed. Their chicken and Mutton starters are awesome (typical afghani). Pulaav with rajma is very good. Their rotis are just unique very filling though. Very reasonable prices. Interior is okay with courteous staff. Must visit

Visited this place for the first time as i wanted to try afgani food. Kababs were succulent and tasty although staff had little problem understanding customer queries. Bread was cold by the time it reached me. Menu options are limited to choose from. Â Water is served on payment basis but one can have black tea on the house. Maybe will visit this place again for trying other products.
One of the few authentic Afghani restaurants that for south Delhi. Authentic, well made food and the ambience will make u feel you are in an eatery in Afghanistan with locals drifting in an out, Kabul Tv aired on the tv screen, option of sitting crosslegged on a carpetcoveted raised platform as u tear huge afghani rotisserie to be had with kebabs pierced into sword like sticks!
An ancient city's art and tradition and the nation have multicultural capital, all known as Kabul which is traditionally offered a wide variety of cooking styles and ingredients. In Delhi few Afghani served their traditional foods at 'Kabul Delhi Restaurant'. They try to make a authentic afghan looks inside the restaurant. People should try this, specially who love Red Meat.
Amazing food in short if you are genuine foodie you will understand what to expect from afghani food.It is not at all indo afghani but actual kabuli food cooked by afghani sheaf. Food is least spice food available in town with very mild curry but well cooked. I ordered for mutton ribs which was great and wonderfully cooked the taste of meet was inuff even without spices in all I am impressed with food as quality was superb and price was most reasonable.
Absolutely love the kabuli Palau.. The chopan kebab is delicious as well. Something completely different and grilled. Kabuli Palau is one of the best rice dishes from the east.
I was waiting for an opportunity to go here for a long time and today finally i had a chance to try authentic Afghani cuisine in lajpat nagar. Located about 2kms from the lajpat nagar metro station, the area called Lajpat Nagar 2 is mostly populated by Afghani migrants and there are a lot of Afghani restaurants in the area. Out of all these restaurants, Kabul Delhi is the most reputed and seems to be doing good business. On the way to the place, you see these little shops selling Afghani naan, which is something entirely different from what we're used to having in delhi. It's a naan made with a yeast-raised dough and is a must-have in this area.
The restaurant has nice ambience, and the people here are very friendly and polite. The service staff is highly skilled. Looking at the menu, one would think that the prices are way too much for one portion of pulao, or starters such as the tandoori chicken. However, when you ask the steward about the portion size, you will be impressed. The tandoori chicken consists of a whole chicken cut into 8 pieces. The naan and other accompaniments with the pulao are free and unlimited( one serving is enough though). We ordered a tandoori chicken and the Qabuli Uzbegi pulao( which is available in both chicken and mutton). The portion size of the pulao was huge! I realized that the next time i go to this place, I'll have to share my pulao with someone. The dish is very rich in itself, as it is cooked in ghee, but still very tasty. The pieces of chicken have just been boiled along with turmeric and salt, but it goes amazingly well with the long-grained basmati rice. There are little raisins and honey-glazed juliennes of carrots which provide the required flavour contrast. Their tandoori chicken is like nothing you've ever had before. It is absolutely to die for! And considering that the marination used for it is so simple, its even more worth it. The meat itself is perfectly cooked, a little on the pinkish side and it tastes heavenly. For the accompaniments, you have a plate of a green salad, one piece of naan each, and an assortment of some vegetable currys. These include okra, aubergine, rajma(kidney beans) and spinach. All of these subjis go very well with the pulao. They also serve something called the Afghani lassi, which is somewhat similar to a chaas, it is flavored with roasted cumin powder, coriander leaves and little cubes of cucumber. A fantastic experience and a must try restaurant if you're lajpat nagar anytime.
After a long long wait final went to have a taste of afgan cuisine, and yes kabul delhi has really made a very good impression of this cuisine.
Although its a very simple and just a normal place, the severs are very very soft spoken and do have afgan ascent, the service was fast and kebabs were really nice.
For us the food was totally without spices but as for the cuisine it was great.
There pulao was too good and had an aroma of the little bit of spices they have used in it.
And yes they serve kabuli naan as complimentary.
Â
A nice place to visit and thanks for serving us...
Lajpat Nagar in south Delhi has had a sizeable population of expat Afghans for decades. It's natural that eateries that cater to the taste of the community would spring up. Majnu ka Tilla is another example where Tibetan people get authentic oriental food because it's their settlement.
Kabul Delhi is not your regular 'Mughlai' kebab-tikka place. The dishes are heavily influenced with Turkish and Uzbeki styles.
The mutton kebabs are medium done and juicy. The Uzbeki pulao (can't recall original name) is a bit sweet and full of aroma. The mutton korma is less spicy (unlike Karim's) and the meat very soft because of marinating for a long time.
One thing I liked is the generous helping of salad greens that they give with every dish. At the average eatery in Delhi you would end up asking "thoda pyaz-mirchi dena bhai!". But here the greens come in a plateful.
The seating area is a long rectangular room. There is ample lighting. The sofas are too soft that you would sink into them and the table may rise up to your neck even if you are a tall person. So that may be an issue.
The prices are reasonable. We had our fill of mutton korma, kebab (with naan included), a momo-type meat ball with dal filling, pulao and three cans of cola. There's the free garden salad too. And the bill came to just Rs 900.
I must add something about the naan bread they serve. It's not soft and fluffy. It's the real homemade Afghani naan. A bit hard and dark in colour. There are thick contours on the bread and it tastes neutral. So some people who are used to eating soft maida naan may think the bread is not good. But spare a thought for the expats who eat this version of naan and feel homesick before one judges them too soon.
Parking is an issue if you go in the weekend. On weekdays go after 8.30 pm and you will get ample space.
For me and my friends, a good restaurant is the one with authentic taste, suitable ambience, polite service and a degree of reasonableness. Kabul Delhi is a small but an excellent restaurant for afghan connoisseurs to explore their taste buds. A great place to have authentic afghan cuisine.
One us forced off the bustling veer savarkar road turning towards a not very imposing bend leading to corporation bank. Few steps ahead, one finds series of restaurants advertising themselves as afghan restaurant. One of them is Kabul Delhi.
Kabul Delhi is not flashy and presents itself as a simple restaurant. Having two floors, the ground floor contains compartments, each having a table and two benches. The end of the floor has two surprises - a large poster of Ahmed shah masood, a respected northern afghan leader assassinated by taliban before US invasion and a stylized picture of Napoleon Bonaparte. The basement floor has dimmer lights and different items of use from Afghanistan decorates the sides. The two ends of the basement have raised platforms with carpets where one can sit and have the meal. A very good break from usual sofa or chair system that has become the norm.
The second visit followed the first visit far more quickly than is usually the case. The food quality is appealing in as much the taste is as much afghani - limited spices, tender mutton, basmati with raisins along with the ambience and overall feel of the place.
Taste: (4.5/5) the pulav contains basmati rice, Little bit of raisins and tenderest mutton one can expect to have. The uzbegi pulav is also similar but has a richer taste and more raisins. Mantu - minced motto wrapped in steamed bread, or one can say momo with mutton is absolutely stunning with the little dal and curd sprinkled on them.
Ambience: (4/5) the place transports you directly to Afghanistan and the customers being usually afghan or iranian gives a sense of a good break if you are tired of usual in Delhi.
Politieness: (4.5/5) everyone is polite and will wait courteously for you to get settled. They would help you both understand the dishes and what should one order.
Price: (5/5) very reasonable. It comes to 350 per person if one goes in a group of 2-4. And food is very bit value for money.
we ordered qabuli uzbeki, chicken handi and gosht tikka ! perfectly cooked , superb aroma , subtle softness to d meat ! service was great and quick and d meal is quite easy on the pocket! Â would like if they served some dips with d tikka!!! Â would definitely visit again soon..........
Just one word - AWESOME!! I am a big fan of Afghan cuisine & this restaurant is the best place for that. The finger-licking chapons, Qabuli pulao & mutton korma, I was in food coma. Whenever in Lajpat Nagar 2, definitely go to this place! I'm gonna recommend this place to everyone. :) Thanks!
Kabuli pulao with mutton and eating on the dastarkhwan rather than on tables, loved it, there is lot of room for improvement both in food and services. Wish them luck.
Very nice food........the kebabs were excellent.......but just one thing......the roti was v thick and cold.......despite pointing out.....it was not heated....otherwise a soooper place....value for money......
Awesome food, still craving for afghani food. Chopa chicken is my Favorite.
Just the bread could have been better, I have had better Uzbeki naan before.
If you are a meat lover, the thing to order here is Mutton choppan kebab.
Afghan food is very different from Indian, the breads are chewy, the curries don't have many spices, no chutneys and the rice is slightly sweet. Go here if you are okay with all this and are open to developing new tastes and you won't be disappointed.
The food was really good. Especially the chicken. Would be nice to have improvements with the ambience to make it more Delhi friendly.. It's a very Afghani place lol .. I would go back for the food.
Finally I got to try the much awaited Afghan spread of (In increasing order of succulence and soft melt-in-mouth-ness of mutton) Kebab Chopan (perfectly charred and seasoned lightly, retaining the moistness of the meat to perfection), Qabuli Uzbegi (a berry and carrot based fragrant and amazing mutton biryani that was literally out of this world), Mutton Qorma (a tomato based gravy of a mutton that was hands down the most tender meat I've tasted in this city so far).
And the great thing is the unique ness of the place, the decor is almost nothing, yet the Afghani waiters, the Afghani customers with a few North eastern or Far eastern people thrown in the mix, shall make you wonder where you've landed. Food is all reminiscent of the Afghani street fare, and not surprisingly all dishes come with sides of Afghani breads and rajma.
The food is so unlike what the regular spice and oil centered food that delhites are so gaga over all the time, that you'll not find a single local delhite eating here.
Could not get Firni this time but I am so visiting this restaurant again some time soon. Highly recommended to anyone who is a versatile foodie.
Talk of middle eastern food in delhi, and you hear falafel, shwarma. But middle eastern food is much more than that , and there are plenty of places in Delhi to look out for them. Lajpat Nagar is one of the places, which has boasted of  "Anotolia". "Iran-e-Zamin", "Iraqi Restaurant" and many Afghan restaurants. So when I decided to have a different experience I headed straight to "Kabul Delhi".Its off the central market and easy to locate.Â
When you enter you are taken away from the ambiance - afghan artifacts, a portrait of  "Ahmed Shah Masood- The great afghan war hero", afghan channel being played in the background. All the staff, and people dining in are afghans and it's like you have taken the flight to Kabul.
The food, one has to admit is authentic. Started with the chopan kebab (chicken kebab). Just plain salt, and basic spices and smoked over charcoal. Such a break from the tikkas and roasts which are the indian lifeline.
Next up, chicken quroma, uzbegi (biryani) and turkish salad.
The chicken quorma is no spice, tomato based curry which is served with a basket full of breads (which are made of wheat flour, not what naans and tandoori rotis taste like)
The uzbegi is sweet raisin and carrot topped biryani. Heaven in your mouth and the meat is so tender that it melts.
Turkish salad is mayo-curd coated vegetables like -"Cabbage, Capsicum, Cucumber".Â
One more mention - Lassi. Don't miss out on this. Its something worth trying, unlike any served in Indian restros.
A word of advice- Kebabs don't come with onion and coriander chutney which is pretty much standard in "Delhi Dhabas". Â
Also, Afghans are very hospitable people. Bound by their traditions they never let any stones unturned to provide you with their best of service. They love to share and get a feedback of their food. Greeting them "Salaam" and "Thank u - Tashakor" will light up their faces like anything.
Must try for an amazing all around experience.
Kabul Delhi is for strict non-vegetarians like me. And also for those who love experimenting cuisines, are open to flavours and tastes and are okay with sitting on no-poshy furniture. It is bit hard to find this place if you are new in Lajpat Nagar, but we found it easily via Google Maps. There are two branches of this place- one being five years old and this particular branch being two years old. We started with Gosht Tikka Kabab.
First things first, the names shouldnât be mistaken for a North Indian dish. Second, the dishes here are close to authentic Kabul cuisine so obviously everything from the seasoning to the cut of the meat to the plating is different.
Anyway back to the tikkas. These arenât marinated in the usual curd spice mix, instead they are charred as is to retain the taste. They were chewier, lightly seasoned and juicer. The whole dish comes with Afghan Nans (called Khubz) and salad. The nans are thick, dry and made with atta (instead of maida). Didnât gobble them up because the main course is something you should really look forward too.
Qabuli Uzbegi, Chicken Qorma is what we ordered. The Qabuli is like berry pulao but with carrots, and no saali. Really delicious, the mutton in it was super soft, super juicy and super tasty. The berries were plump, the rice long and the quantity huge. Highly recommend it. This comes with naans, salad and we got the baigan ki subzi. The eggplant dish was another stand-out- smoky, rich and balanced with cold curd. The Chicken Qorma was yum. The meat was falling of the bone, the curry thick and lush, the seasoning light but that allowed the meat to stand out. The salad is usual cucumber, tomato and onion with green peppers and lemon.
Now the best part--the price. 620 for all this, pretty good I reckon. The atmosphere is nothing great- an afghani channel is on the TV and light Afghani music is playing at the background. The staff very soft spoken and patiently explain you the dish. The cutlery is clean, the place too. There is a dustbin under every table to throw the tissues right away which they clear once you leave.
They run out of the dishes quite quickly so make sure you either call and ask or be on the right time. The folks here are usually not used to seeing women, so dress accordingly.
On the whole, if you expecting masala filled, butter oozing dishes you will be disappointed. But if you actually want to the taste the rich, simple flavor of your meats then you will be rewarded.

All my reviews for Delhi restaurants would be dated because I have become an intermittent traveler in the city where I grew up. Hopefully this would be remedied soon with a visit. In the meanwhile - Lajpat Nagar and Jangpura have become a nice hub for the Afghan expat community in Delhi and hence there are several Afghan restaurants around.Â
They all have pretty standard menus - the piece de resistance of all of them being the Kabli palaw. Â At my one meal here I sampled the Kabli palaw which was adequate. The waiters were super friendly and were very amused that I spoke Farsi and refused to believe that I was Indian :).
I have been an Iranian food lover since childhood (considering the fact that I was born there and spent the initial few years there) and hence for me, the food has a special place in my heart (and on my tongue ;-)).
My hubby knows of my connection with the cuisine (I made him have Iranian food when we were on our honeymoon in KL and got his taste developed ;)) and hence, when he got to experience this place with some of his colleagues, he made up his mind to take me to Kabul! :)
The first thing that hits you, is the authenticity. The surroundings, the people and the courteous attitude was all too familiar.. very similar to Iranians; hence, instead of feeling awkward or left out....I felt quite at home. Now, please make no mistake about this....I am a TRUE and PURE Indian, I was just born in Iran as my father worked in a hospital there for 13 years (he was an ENT specialist). :)
As we were hungry, we settled down and placed our order: Qabuli Uzbeki Pulao, Chicken Korma, Kabab Chopan and their Afghani Naans. The food came quickly enough, along with some Rajma for gravy and salad. I have to say, I fell in LOVE with the meat here. Tender and simply seasoned yet flavorful.
The Qabuli Uzbeki Pulao is a totally different take on the traditional biryani. Not spiced up, it displayed a combination of colours owing to the thin carrot juliennes and generous sprinkling of raisins. Now, it is a little on the sweeter side but you experience a different burst of flavours and the meat is as tender as can be.
The chicken korma is nothing like it's Indian counterpart. I loved it cause I have a recipe of my own which is quite similar and since I love tomato based gravies, this was an instant favorite. Again, it's not spicy but it's so flavourful, juicy, well cooked and tender that one can lose oneself in it. I loved it coupled with the rice from the pulao as well.
The one thing that surprised me to the core, was their bread/naan! Made from whole wheat (atta), they were super soft even though we had them after about 15 minutes since they were served. That is something you would not experience with the Maida versions served in restaurants usually. The chicken korma gravy tasted wonderful with the naans.
The beautiful thing about this cuisine is that it is slow cooked and hence, the meat is ALWAYS nice, tender and juicy. I am a sucker for tender meat and it is pretty hard to find in restaurants. Most places serve chewy, tasteless meats where the spices do not even enter the meat as they are not cooked together much. Secondly, they do not use chillies or spices... as a result of which....even if you hog, you don't get the heartburn-y or heavy feeling you tend to get upon eating SPICY food.
My hubby took me and his parents as well for a taste change as they are spicy, Indian/Mughlai food lovers who do not try different cuisines much. When they saw the spread, they were not much impressed but as soon as they started eating, they started praising the textures, tenderness of meat and flavours. They loved it so much that now they sometimes ask when we're going to go again! :)
We never did get to experience their lower ground, floor seating arrangement....will definitely try it the next time we go. The taste for Afghani, Irani, Lebanese and Arabic cuisines has to be acquired. If you want to try something different, are open to experimenting with new cuisines and love meat....this is THE place for you.

Setting: A few hours to kill in Lajpat Nagar market alone, a growling and ever demanding stomach, a never ending craving for some luscious kababs and no one to distract me from my only love- FOOD! *glittering eyes*
Kabul Delhi, the apple of eye for people with a taste for Afghani Cuisine, is located is Lajpat Nagar 2 Market. I call this place as âLittle Kabulâ because all you would see in this particular area is the Dawakhanaâs with Neon Boards in Pashto/Urdu (I really donât know the correct answer to that), women clad in hijab roaming around and abundance of dry fruit shops.
The thing with eating alone is that you pay a lot of attention to the minutest of details around you and that is why upon entering the restaurant I was fairly attentive of everything happening around me. I had my own Sherlock moment there, khikhikhikhi. The setting of restaurant is very different from your common run of restaurants, there are a few conventional table chair settings and then besides it there are beds with quilt seating which is guaranteed to give one a unique dining experience. Boasted by helpful, courteous and well learned staff; the restaurant serves a fulfilling, delectable and easy on the pocket meal. The food on the table included 2 dishes- Chicken Qorma and gosht tikka kabab. The Chicken Qorma came with 4 big Afghani Naan which were difficult to finish. (Well Confucius said-âYour eyes are always bigger than your stomachâ; had he seen me after the meal, he would have corrected himself)
The Qorma was nowhere near your usual Mughlai Korma with boasts rich and creamy gravy cooked in spices you donât even know of but it was based mainly on an onion and tomato rich gravy sans oil and mildly spiced. The thing that stood out was the tenderness of the Chicken which was cooked in such a manner that if you tried inserting your finger in it, it would probably leave a gaping hole. Right till the bone, the chicken was white in colour, so soft and juicy that I might have chewed on a bone or two unknowingly. Kebabs were testament to their meat preparation as they were well done, crisp and juicy. One could make out that the salads served were freshly cut.
What really stood out for me was the whole aura of the place. This place is run by a family/group of friends and you could see the camaraderie among them. Ownerâs little daughter was playing around and having her meal with all the serving treating her like their own daughter and all this while tending to the needs of the people dining. Walls were adorned with photos of Afghanistan and scripts in Pashto which, I am guessing, were religious.
I believe food knows no cultural boundaries and most of the bondings happen over a meal or two. Kabul is a place where you will fall in love not only with the food they cook so brilliantly but also with way they treat you. At least my experience was such.
Thank you for your time. Cheers and Happy Eating.
My oh My!....
It was all about the meat!
Rarely have I experienced such soft, silken textures of meat ...fully resplendent in all its glory!
Be sure to go downstairs....where there us quilt seating, and afgani artifacts...which accentuates your experience... The sight of sime rugged,Fair Pathans and pretty ladies eating their meal passionately assures you that this is a serious eating place.
Start your meal with a yoghurt and cucumber based drink...order a few melt in mouth kababs...and of course there famous qabuli pulao.
The flavours are subtle...different..and not too robust and in your face like typical Indian style preparations.
As I said..it's all about the meat (mutton)...delicately flavoured...skilfully cooked..paired with the most outstanding naan breads and khameeri Roti's.
Relish a meal here....and ponder over the fact that geographies may be different... Human nature and self made theories may arise suspicions and conflicts...but food as joyous as this..dissolves all communal misunderstandings...and makes the hearts rejoice!
had the qorma and chalao... reasonably priced with reasonable portions and a fun sitting area on a sort of table without chairs. definitely something new and fun to do... the service was reasonably quick as well and the atmosphere was very respectful. All in all a reasonable place to have some dinner =P
Since long I had been wanting to eat here as I heard a lot about Afghani food and Kabul Delhi being the best one in Lajpat Nagar. We ordered Qorma Chalao, Rajma, Borani Banjan, Chicken Chopan with Khimiri Roti that came along. The Borani Banjan is very similar to its Indian contemporary Baingan Ka Bharta, just that its not at all spicy and has very little masala, which is actually non-oily, healthy and tasty. Rajma also tasted very good. The Chicken Chopan was soft, succulent and not high-spiced. It was cooked to perfection sticking to its Afghan originality. Qorma Chalao was served with white rice, and was cooked with vegetables. Khimiri Roti is a large flatbread that is healthier and better since its made of Atta and not Maida. Since we had a lot of food on our table and couldnt accommodate more in our tummies, we could not order Qabuli Uzbegi, Mantu and other dishes. Also, for vegetarians, Borani Banjan and Rajma are the only two vegetarian dishes that are served here, although they dont serve Bolani which is actually a vegetarian dish, you can try that in the other two restaurants, Afghan Darbar and Mazaar, which are in the same vicinity. All in all, the food tasted delicious, real Afghani and I will return again for sure. Its quite low on pocket and if you visit you might just find yourselves to be the only Indians here, so dont freak out. The service is pretty good too.
One time when I went here, there was one vegetarian person with us, so when we asked what there was in vegetarian, the server manager and maybe part owner who was an Afghan person looked at us very sadly and asked with a very polite and gentle manner, almost as though he was personally responsible, "daal and salad"?
One thing here is that politeness is the major component of the food and restaurant. if you go with family, women and children, you will be treated like royalty. There is the option of sitting on a table and chair, or one takht-posh kind of arrangement. Once when we had gone, two couples, and the tables were all full, atleast two tables full of Afghan men offered to stand up and took their food to the counter to enable us to sit.
But you should love meat.
Because what they do to meat is, from my observation, ensure that they only use the best quality meat. Lowest cost by tender is not the approach. The reason for this is that they don't drown the meat in sauce and gravy, it is mostly served with minimal disguise of any sort, and always with some greens on the side. Yes, they have gravy items also, but you are better advised to stick to the dry non-masala meats, which are usually gently flavoured so that the taste of the MEAT is the big deal.
Likewise, for naan, you can ask for whole-wheat naan instead of maida, and they will provide.
Not much for desserts, but there is a gentleman outside selling fresh fruit, and his anar (pomegranate) is the best I have eaten, maybe it comes from Afghanistan, I don't know, but I liked it so much that the elderly gent who is selling fruit would cut and then peel it for me and fed me with his hand when I told him my late father used to do the same. Had me in tears, almost.
If you go to Lajpat Nagar, check this restaurant out, to see what hospitality means, true old style hospitality, and good selection of meat.
On one of my recent trip to Delhi I was looking for Afghan food after watching a show in travel channel and I was interested particular in 3 main dishes: "Kabuli pulao", "Shish kebab" and "Chopan kebab" .I knew that there are significant number of Afghan immigrants in Delhi so I did a random search before my travel and I found this place which has a decent rating in Zomato.
Once in Delhi, with a bad google map/GPS result, me and my friend reached late at night around 09:45 PM .By the time we reached all rice items were over and they didn't have "Shis kebab" on the menu. So I had no option left other than "Chopan kebab" and my friend settled with "Chicken korma".
The delicacy was different in a good way. THIS KIND OF Korma was somthing which I had never tried before. "Chopan kebab" was succulent and moist. Though it might feel bland to most of Indian palate but I LIKED it. So over all it was decent meal. On my next visit I hopefully will reach on time try the "Kabuli Pulao"!
My suggestion would be to any one visiting this place not to have any predefined expectation/imagination about the taste of the food (if your trying for the 1st time). Just go open minded give it a try. You may love the different delicacy.
Kabul Delhi is deliciously known for their Afghani cuisine. As a forewarning, vegetarians shouldn't eat here. The menu is primarily non-vegetarian, so vegetarians wouldn't necessarily have the best experience eating here. Otherwise, the place is quaint and has quick service. The Qabuli Uzbegi is by far my favorite dish here. It's served with traditional flatbread, salad, and Rajma. The Rajma was delectable actually reminded me slightly of Mexican style beans. Don't expect the Qabuli Uzbegi to be like traditional biryani-it's not. It's far sweeter, which is traditionally Afghani. It's also filled with lamb so tender that it falls apart with the prick of a fork. The prices are decent and the food leaves you filled. For Afghani cuisine in Delhi, this place is a must.
Finally had been to reastaurant in Delhi where good food comes with a reasonable cost.Don't forget to try uzbeki pulao.chicken Korma is also nice.
Awesome food.. Must try especially the uzbaki pallaw murgh qorma.. Tasty yummmmy
As a girl who grew up in the Middle East, eating kebab's made by a true Pasthun, I walked into this restaurant feeling all critical and ready to trash as I'd expected it to be 'Indianised Afghani' food.
It was 10 pm and I was standing at the entrance to realize that not only am I the only Indian in the place but also the only female there (probably given the late hour and the amazing safety reputation Delhi has). The first thought that came to my mind was turn around and leave. But, there was this vibe that made me feel at ease even in that foreign surrounding.
At ground level, it seemed like an ordinary restaurant with a general table-chair seating arrangement, but it was when I'd walked into the basement that I was really stunned. The setting brought back memories of my childhood when I used to dine with my Arab friend's families - a raised wooden plinth on the ground with a carpeted surface with a plastic sheet at the center. Each plinth could seat 8-10 people. So I settled down and absorbed the customized surroundings feeling all nostalgic and it took me a good 15-20 minutes before I was ready to order.
I'd gone there to eat the Uzbeki Biryani but since it was almost 11 pm they did not have any of their rice items. Disappointed, I asked them to serve whatever they had left.
My disappointment did not last long, as 10 minutes later they served fresh Salad in Yogurt base, Chicken Korma, Mutton Chopan, Mantu and thick bread to eat along in the main course. In one word, the food was like heaven.
The Kebab's were as tender and juicy. The fact that they retained their natural flavor without messing around with spices is what I had to give it to them for. The Mantu was a total surprise, they were basically Momos with some red beans & Yogurt touch up. I was skeptical but they ended up tasting brilliant. Again all the flavors perfectly complemented each other. The Chicken Korma was like a 'quencher'. The gravy was a pleasant change midst his dry counterparts. The can of Pepsi I'd ordered was the perfect way to wrap up the divine meal.
I was almost in tears of joy after such a feast. The only reason I'd rated it a 4.5 instead of a full 5 is because I'm yet to try their Uzbeki Biryani, which, from reading the other reviews, I'm sure is as great as the other dishes.
PS: This review is for non-veg lovers though, I do think their sole vegetarian option, The Borani Banjan (Eggplant with tomato and yogurt) is definitely worth a try.
have visited this place around 5-6 times in the past 4 months..a few items which I like the most are - Uzbeki pulao, mutton korma, chicken gosht kabab, borani banjan...apart from these, I have had shami kabab, which is not so good.
Also had quorma kofta, which is one of the best koftas i ever had

In a nutshell:
If u r a nonvegetarian living in Delhi & haven't yet been to this place, u have surely missed something.
Short Description - In case u r in a hurry:
We started off from home with friends to eat at an Iranian Roadside joint in Lajpatnagar, Delhi. On reaching the place we found out that the shop had closed down 2 months back!!!! Bewildered, we were discussing an alternate place to have dinner & it was then that a Good Samaritan suggested - Why don't u try out the Afghani Shops in the road besides the Bata shop?
'Afghani'food is something that rang a bell - We had earlier quite liked the food at Afghan Durbar, Saket. So we started off towards the new destination. On entering the said road we first came across Afghan Durbar (I guess it is the same Chain - same look). A few steps away was Kabul Delhi Superstore - A full Kabuli Grocery store. Just above it was Kabul Delhi Restaurant & we decided to walk in.
All guests other than us were Afghani - We felt like we were in Kabul!!!!! There were restaurant seating as well as the 'bed' kind of sitting. The basement floor also had the 'bed' kind of seating.
A huge poster of Camel fight formed the backdrop of the ground floor of the restaurant. Photographs of Kabul, Kabuli decorative pieces & inscriptions on metal adorned the other walls.
The guy who came to serve us food, was shy, always had a smiling face & quite smart. We asked for kababs - He said 'that will take 40 minutes. Do u have time?' We said - 'Pls serve us the rest of the dishes & while we eat, the kababs will be ready'. He agreed readily.
Food was mindblowing good. The kababs were bursting out with taste & flavour. The pulao was way better than the one at Afghan Durbar & the meat in the pulao was softer than the softest mutton I have ever had in my whole life!!!! The mutton Korma was outstanding again. For Afghani dessert however we had to go to another joint 10 minutes walk away.
Detailed Description - In case u have the time to njoy reading:
We started our dinner with a wonderful Kabuli Uzbegi - A Mutton Pulao with long supersoft but independent grains of rice, partly orange due to addition of saffron & the rest white. It had thin juliennes of carrot & generous helping of raisins strewn all over. The raisins & the carrots gave a totally new dimension to the pulao - different than any Indian Mutton Biryani. It was interesting to note that this dish was much less oilier than its Indian counterparts.
The reddish meat pieces were unbelievably soft & melt in the mouth - softer than any mutton piece I have ever had. Taste of both the rice & the meat & both together was marvellous. Superloved this overall & reordered another one.
The Mutton Qorma was orangish red in color.& in the gravy looked not 'thick'. In fact it looked tomatoeee. The first sip of the gravy gave a tomatoee feel as well but post that it turned out to be a very fine mutton curry. Again, very non greasy, light gravy & super soft mutton pieces.
We finished off the Qorma gravy till the last drop with some excellent square Afghani naan made with atta (wheat flour).
As mentioned before, our kababs came in the end. We had asked for mutton chopan. It turned out to be similar in some ways to burrah kabab but the pieces used were not the same. The meat was not soft, very juicy, charred at the corners, flavorful & very tasty. The flavors were unique & I cud not remember anything Indian to compare it with. Super loved it - Outstanding.
Post this meal we asked for some Afghani dessert & the guy smiled - 'sorry sir, we do not have'. However, he was very nice to tell us about another Afghan eatery 'Mazaar' who served Afghani Desserts - Sheer Yakh (icecream) & Jala (icecream & Falooda).
Surely look forward to revisiting this place in the near future. Will keep u updated.
